Rachel Reeves’s Spending Review key points – NHS bombshell and major housing update Chancellor Rachel Reeves has delivered the Labour government’s spending review with billions of pounds set aside for housing, the NHS and defence. Here The Mirror looks at the key details NHS FUNDING: The NHS was the big winner in today’s Spending Review with the Chancellor ploughing £29billion into the health service in additional funding by 2028/29. Ms Reeves said this represents a rise in real-terms of around 3% each year as she described the crisis-hit NHS as the public’s “most treasured” public service. AFFORDABLE HOUSING BOOST: Hundreds of thousands of new affordable homes will be built over the next decade under a £39billion package announced today. Ms Reeves described it as the “biggest cash injection” in 50 years. During today’s statement the Chancellor said it will help turn the tide on the country’s housing crisis. It also forms part of the pledge to build 1.5million new homes by 2029. WINTER FUEL U-TURN DETAILS: OAPs with an income of £35,000 or below in England and Wales will receive the benefit this winter. It is a major uplift from the current £11,500 cut-off point announced last summer. It means nine million pensioners will now be eligible for the winter support. Around two million pensioners whose income is above £35,000 will have the payment automatically recovered or can opt out from receiving it. BUS FARE CAP AND SCHOOLS: Bus passengers will be protected from fare hikes as the £3 cap on single tickets was extended. In a major boost for bus users, Ms Reeves Reeves said she will protect the nationwide price cap on single trips, which had been due to run out at the end of the year. The cost-of-living lifeline will now be in place across England until March 2027. Single fares could rise by up to £12 in the worst hit areas if the cap is lifted. The Department for Transport previously said a journey between Leeds and Scarborough could cost £15, while a fare from Hull to York would hit £8.50. In a major boost to low income families, the Chancellor said free school meals will be extended to more than half a million children. DEFENCE SPENDING: In an “age of insecurity” the Chancellor said defence spending will rise to 2.6% of GDP by 2027. She said the figure includes spending on intelligence agencies. “We will make Britain a defence industrial superpower,” Ms Reeves vowed. Keir Starmer previously set out plans to hike defence spending to 2.5% – paid for by slashing billions of pounds from the overseas aid budget. NUCLEAR POWER: The government announced over £14billion worth of investment will go towards building the Sizewell C nuclear power plant on the Suffolk coast. The Treasury said the move – championed by Keir Starmer earlier this week – will help create 10,000 jobs and hundreds of apprenticeships. The Chancellor said today it will also power six million homes. The van dweller dilemma taking over the Downs as tensions rise The situation is getting heatedThe council’s most recent estimate was 640-680, which means that, for every one van or caravan-dweller on the Downs, there’s another five or six out in the rest of the city. Mr Nelson said the council needed to do better, both for the Downs and the local residents, but also for the van dwellers themselves. “We got together because the council weren’t taking action, with an attitude of anything goes. They don’t even know how many vans are here, they’ve got an estimate for the whole of Bristol, but on the Downs how many are there that are occupied. The answer is not all of them. “A lot of them are used for drug-dealing, there’s slum-letting going on, and there’s all sorts of horrible stories about people being pushed into those vans, so we just don’t know what’s going on, and neither do the council, which is the point,” he added. “We’re trying to get the council to go and find the truly homeless, help them, and all these other people on the bandwagon, we need to move them on, because they’ve come from all over the UK because Bristol is a soft touch,” he added. The city council’s position, explained by Cllr Parsons at the public meeting in March, at City Hall and in several statements on the issue this year so far, is that the issue of van-dwellers is a city-wide one, and the city council has to sort it across the city, not just on the Downs. “The number of people living in vehicles and caravans in Bristol has grown significantly in recent years and we recognise the challenges this growth in the size and number of encampments raises for our city,” said Cllr Parsons. “We have to acknowledge it’s a complex situation, and one I and others have spoken about on many occasions in the past twelve months. “Fundamentally we want to make sure that all communities, including those living in vehicles or caravans, and those in homes in neighbourhoods, have a meaningful and fair chance to live healthy and safe lives. This means we need to take action on a number of fronts to make sure we are balancing the needs of everyone, whilst prioritising our efforts where the need is greatest,” he added. The previous Labour administration brought in a policy and process which saw van dwelling groups ranked by council officers on the impact their presence was having on local residents or businesses. The council would only act, as it did in Greenbank, if it was deemed to be a ‘high impact’. So far at least, the council has assessed the 130-odd caravans and vans on the Downs as ‘medium’. The long-term answer, for Cllr Parsons and Bristol City Council, is to create more ‘meanwhile sites’ – official places where van dwellers can park up, which have proper services like sanitation and waste collection. The council wants to create spaces for 250 vans, but they are likely to be on places like the Northern Slopes between Knowle West and Bedminster, Hengrove Park, in South Bristol, or other areas away from the city centre.

Reform UK urges Bank of England to stop paying interest to lenders Andrew Bailey defends the payments for deposits that arose from quantitative easing as important for financial stability The Bank of England has no plans to stop paying interest on lenders’ deposits, despite having been accused by Reform UK of “unnecessarily wasting tens of billions of pounds of taxpayers’ money”. Richard Tice, deputy leader of the party, wrote to Andrew Bailey, the governor of the Bank of England, over the weekend, claiming that the Bank was prioritising the “enriching of City institutions” at the expense of the public. Under the Bank’s quantitative easing (QE) programme, which lasted from 2009 to 2021, about £895 billion was created by buying bonds from commercial lenders, which then deposited the money they received at the central bank. Interest is paid on these reserves, which stand at about £700 billion, at the base rate of 4.25 per cent. • Mehreen Khan: The Treasury, the Bank and a saving they could make tomorrow Reform wants the Bank to do away with these interest payments. Other advocates of cutting reserve remuneration in the UK include Gordon Brown, the former prime minister, and two former deputy governors of the Bank, Sir Paul Tucker and Sir Charlie Bean. Some, including Gertjan Vlieghe, a former member of the monetary policy committee, have said that to stop paying the full interest rate could be tantamount to a debt default. But Tice, in his letter, said “that is simply untrue”, and added: “This money was created out of thin air by the Treasury and the Bank of England to support the economy during two periods of acute national stress over the past 18 years. It was never the property of City institutions. It is no coincidence that commercial bank profits have soared as interest rates rose as the Bank of England paid out tens of billions of this voluntary interest. These institutions cannot believe their luck.”

The Death of the Left: Why We Must Begin from the Beginning Again Simon Winlow, Steve Hall The left is dead. Its ailments cannot be cured. The only way to resurrect what was once valuable in leftist politics is to declare the left dead and begin from the beginning again. Winlow and Hall identify the root causes of its maladies, describe how new cultural obsessions displaced core unifying principles and explore the yawning chasm that now separates the left from the working class. Drawing upon a wealth of historical evidence to structure their story of entryism, corruption, fragmentation and decline, they close the book by outlining how a new reincarnation of the left can win in the 21st century. A clear and cutting call-to-action. Since the collapse of the Corbyn project in 2019, I’ve wanted to read something like this – and I think that Winlow and Hall are very successful here in articulating just what the state-of-play is. Modern Monetary Policy and new western green industrialisation are the way forward baby. They discuss the legendary Ernest Bevin, who in the 1940s, although decidedly not a communist and very much a supporter of working with the Americans, was also a supporter of the national liberation of the British colonies. Bevin was passionate about the welfare of the working class in Britain, worked as “to improve their lot. People needed to be given a chance to grow, make progress and provide for their families. Bevin knew all too well that the poor were overwhelmingly willing to work and keen to support themselves. And there was not a trace of liberal relativism in Bevin’s socialism. The lives of the working class would improve if they received a higher wage and better conditions” (Winlow & Hall; 2023: 81). While the “traditional left was worldly” (Winlow & Hall; 2023: 81) in a way embodied by Bevin, a new left informed by Post-Modernism, and concerns about minority rights, pulled the focus away from the communitarian ones of the old Labour Party. To the extent that this new neoliberal left was worldly it with an individualism which fitted neatly with the new economic zeitgeist of a global unipolar world – both in economics, and in support of Washington’s reach into other people’s countries. The curse of these people’s foreign policy focus is dealt with by John Mearsheimer in “Great Delusion: Liberal Dreams and International Realties” (2018), as he shows how the desire to remake the world in their own image has given support to the American perpetual war machine in Iraq, Libya, Syria and Ukraine. Another reviewer of “The Death of the Left”, whose academic focus is on western intelligence agencies, took this unipolar-supporting position in criticising the authors for not mentioning Putin’s invasion of Russia. This is typical of the unipolar world-supporting types that Winlow & Hall are criticising – if you don’t fall in with their views of what is important, you are written off as a “national socialist” or not getting on board with the Pentagon’s Zelensky-praise campaign. The fact is that “Death of the Left” is focused on domestic politics, and not foreign policy. They don’t mention Ukraine, because it is not their focus. The don’t mention Iraq, Libya, Afghanistan or Syria either. But when you take the focus to developing the national economy, you attract the ire of the establishment which supports a global neoliberalism and a Pentagon with a global reach. The western media does not see the Post-Modern left as a threat, because they are not. Slavoj Zizek is no threat to the Globalist: neoliberal or Pentagon. But Winlow and Hall are. Which is why it is worth reading Winlow and Hall. If their ideas take hold, we stand a very real chance of returning to the levels of development achieved in the Keynesian era from 1945 until the 1970s. I wish them the best in their quest to “begin from the beginning again”. All strength to them.
Hannah Borno reports live from Stockholm, where Bilderberg Meeting is taking place. China haunts Bilderberg talks as usual suspects plot world domination… The corporate, political and tech bigwigs meeting in Sweden are worried about an ‘authoritarian axis’ – maybe AI drones will fix things? Though the name “China” doesn’t actually appear on this year’s agenda, the heightening struggle between America and China is a spectre which haunts at least half of the topics being discussed – from the “geopolitics of energy and critical minerals” to “defence innovation and resilience”. Just a couple of months ago, Eric Schmidt, the former Google boss and longtime Bilderberg board member, warned that “China is at parity or pulling ahead of the United States in a variety of technologies, notably at the AI frontier”. Schmidt suspects that it will be only a matter of “three to five years” before some form of super-intelligent AI is achieved. “The geopolitical stakes, especially in the race with China, are enormous,” he says, because attaining super-intelligent AI would mean total and unassailable military domination. In short, it would give the winner “the keys to control the entire world”. But here’s the problem – “due to the immense power requirements of large-scale AI”, beating China to the super-intelligent punch would require “potentially 100 times more energy” than is currently available. The head of the International Energy Agency, Fatih Birol, who is conferencing this year at Bilderberg, recently posted on X that “global electricity demand from data centres powering AI is set to soar in the next decade”. In this desperate winner-takes-all race for the keys to the world, in which the “geopolitics of energy” becomes ever more important, power stations – along with the data centers they feed – are going to become the No 1 military targets. Cue the AI drones. For the time being, before AI invents completely new and unimagined ways for us all to kill each other, drones are perhaps the biggest practical application of AI in warfare. There’s a healthy swarm of drone manufacturers at this year’s Stockholm summit, sharing their hopes and fears about “defence innovation”. Hovering alongside Eric Schmidt there’s the chairman of Thales – “a leader in the fast growing market of unmanned aircraft systems”. Buzzing nearby is Gundbert Scherf, co-founder of German drone and AI company Helsing. One of the early investors in Helsing is also present: the CEO of Spotify, Daniel Ek, which presumably means that the Helsing drones will have the best playlists, booming out suggested songs as they swoop down to attack.Usual tech entrepreneurs there, as AI and war are big on the agenda. Peter Thiel’s visions of Apocalypse Is AI the Antichrist? The Antichrist is, by definition, negative and dependent. It rejects Christ and Christian values while offering a spurious imitation of them. AI is a similarly dependent being. It is a simulacrum of human intelligence and language, capacities of thought and speech the Greeks called logos. But AI lacks essential elements of human logos: its embeddedness in the world through birth in a body bound for death, and the moral and intellectual interiority that makes the human being an image of God. Speech is a living voice that springs from the soul — to give interiority its biblical name — embedded in body of an existing individual. But AI is not a living being, and it replaces inner plenitude with mechanical, algorithmic emptiness. Embeddedness in space and time expresses itself as concern for, and responsiveness to, the actual conditions of existence, the biblical paradigm of which is Adam’s naming of the animals who live alongside him in Eden. But while AI requires material substrates — servers and other hardware — it inhabits them in purely occasional and contingent ways, like the demons that beg Christ to pass from the mad Galilean to the herd of pigs. Its relationship with actuality is equally contingent. It exists in a digital cloud of pure possibility, where it arranges information according to no criterion of truth besides probability and the rules of logic. That’s why ChatGPT and other LLMs are so prone to hallucinations, like citing books that exist only in Borges’s fictional, virtually infinite Library of Babel. Yet, like the sham philosopher and bad citizen Plato calls “the sophist”, who is equally indifferent to truth, AI has a seemingly divine ability to imitate virtually anything with lifelike plausibility and vividness, and in multiple media. The market, whose whims have for decades guided the world’s best software engineers, has made this soulless capacity of representation, tailored to the tastes of the individual consumer, available to almost everyone on the planet. It has taught us to spend hours every day in its virtual reality, entertaining or distracting ourselves with the shadows it casts on the walls of our own private caves. Yet, using AI for more serious purposes is no less a Faustian bargain. Every advance AI makes in serving our desires degrades fundamental human capacities and gives it more mastery over human beings. Using AI to navigate makes us less capable navigators. Using AI to write makes us less capable writers. Using it to make decisions weakens our executive capacities of judgement and action. Peak AI, ministering to the inner emptiness and boredom of atomised, directionless selves, will mean peak human debility and enslavement. Aren’t these the goals of the Antichrist — which, whatever form it may take, always seeks to remake human beings in its own image?

UK defence ministry ‘currently’ training Israeli army personnel Defence ministry admits it continues to train Israeli personnel despite allegations of war crimes The UK is “currently” involved in training members of the Israeli army on British soil, according to Ministry of Defence officials. In response to a question from a Labour MP, the Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for the Armed Forces admitted the training was ongoing despite government concerns over Israel’s assault on Gaza. “As part of routine defence engagement with Israel, the UK is currently training a limited number of Israeli Defence Forces personnel on UK-based training courses,” Armed Forces Minister Luke Pollard said on Wednesday. The UK has been largely supportive of Israel during its war on Gaza, which began in October 2023. This is despite allegations of genocide and war crimes committed by Israeli soldiers against Palestinian civilians. More than 55,000 Palestinians have been killed as a result of Israel’s war on Gaza, which several countries, as well as many international rights groups and experts, now qualify as an act of “genocide”. In recent months the government has become more critical in its rhetoric towards its erstwhile ally, with Prime Minister Keir Starmer pronouncing Israel’s aid blockade on Gaza “intolerable”. Israeli military officials say there are no restrictions on bombing Gaza homes Britain’s foreign ministry announced on Tuesday that Israeli Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich and National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir would be banned from entering the UK and will have any assets in the country frozen. Nevertheless, the government has faced criticism over its continuing provision of military assistance to the country. More than 300 Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) staff sent a letter to Foreign Secretary David Lammy last month, raising concerns about potential UK “complicity” in Israel’s assault on the enclave.

The 1936 fire which brought London’s spectacular Crystal Palace to the ground took place during a two-month November/December 1936 trial of the two Baird and Marconi/EMI television systems by the BBC at Alexander Palace on the opposite side of London. The Baird laboratories occupied over 40,000 square feet of space under the south of the Crystal Palace and the South water tower which was used to power the fountains and as a high point for television transmitters. Six weeks after the catastrophic fire which destroyed the research laboratories and studios of the Baird company, in January 1937, the BBC decided it would use the Marconi/EMI system into the future, which continued beyond the introduction of BBC2 and 625 lines colour television in 1967 – John Logie Baird is reported to have suspected the fire was a deliberate act of sabotage against his work on developing television – A most spectacular conflagration lit up the London skyline on the night of the 30th November 1936, when the Crystal Palace, together with the Baird complex, was burnt to the ground. Only the South Tower, the School of Arts and the Rotunda in the Palace Grounds survived. It represented a catastrophe for the company, only slightly eased by the insurance pay-out of 80,000 Pounds, about 1.8 million pounds in today’s money. Fortunately all the equipment purchased by the BBC for Alexandra Palace had been delivered six months earlier. The School of Arts had been producing the T5 mirror lid receiver during the past year and work on these continued. In the Rotunda 12, 15 and 22-inch diameter picture tubes were manufactured under the Cathovisor trade mark, in the gallery of this old building the vacuum physics department designed and produced split-anode magnetrons for the microwave-relay system, projection tubes capable of throwing a 13 ft. by 10 ft. television picture on a cinema screen and monoscopes (still picture tubes).
Crystal Palace burns down in 1935 – Logie Baird, inventor of TV, thought it was deliberate to destroy his ideas, so Marconi’s could take precedence, who was based in Alexander Palace. Baird in the meantime was employed elsewhere on Air Ministry projects secretly equipping bombers. In 1936 the Ministry approached Captain A.G.D. West, chief engineer of the Baird Company and himself an ex-radio intelligence officer. They wanted a television guidance system to direct bombers from above the clouds. West informed the Ministry that the Baird Company had business ties with Fernseh AG in Germany and under the agreement of their partnership, exchanges of technical information were mandatory. However, it was noted that the German government had taken control of all television, declaring that all future development was to be a state secret. Since then, Fernseh was soaking up all the information they could from the Baird Company without giving anything in return. An Air Ministry file in the Public Records Office reveals that the Baird Company were contracted to develop a bomber guidance system for the French government and possibly for the Russians too. Both contracts had British government approval. In Germany, Baird’s activities were already under close scrutiny and for a country that was preparing for war, the Baird Company, working closely for Germany’s intended enemies, would have been a prime target. During the period when the company undertook secret work, it would almost certainly have attracted the attention of German agents. The German leadership was only too aware of the importance of television and its closeness to radar and other detection systems. This might lead one to the possible assumption that the fire at the Crystal Palace was not caused, as has been surmised in the past, by a mere electrical fault. The fire brought about massive disruption to the company’s Air Ministry work, and Baird himself was convinced that this was nothing less than an act of sabotage.
Israel launches unprovoked war of aggression, attacks Iran’s nuclear sites and military commanders Israel says it has launched a fresh wave of air strikes on Iran, after hitting nuclear and military sites overnight. On Friday evening the Israeli Air Force said it was continuing “to attack missile launchers and infrastructure” in Iran. Israel strikes Iran – reprisal? Netanyahu’s speech on why he’s struck Iran. Logan Act. There are reports of explosions across the country. The BBC has verified at least one evening blast near the capital Tehran. Iran has not yet commented. Israel said its overnight attack targeted the “heart” of Iran’s nuclear programme. Those strikes killed Hossein Salami, the chief of Iran’s powerful Islamic Revolutionary Guards military branch, plus several senior military figures and nuclear scientists. Civilians, including children, were among those killed, Iran said. A state of emergency has been declared in Israel. The US said it was not involved in the strikes, but President Donald Trump said he was aware of Israel’s plans beforehand. When and where did the strikes happen? Explosions were reported in Iran’s capital Tehran at about 03:30 local time (01:00 BST) on Friday. Iranian state TV said residential areas in Tehran were hit, with blasts also heard north-east of the capital. In Israel, residents were woken by air raid sirens around the same time and received emergency phone alerts. Israel’s military said it had struck “dozens of military targets, including nuclear targets in different areas of Iran”. Hours after the initial strikes, an explosion was reported at the Natanz nuclear facility, which is located about 225km (140 miles) south of the capital, according to Iranian state media. The IDF later confirmed it had struck the site and said its attack had resulted in significant damage. The global nuclear watchdog, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), said it was informed by Iranian authorities that there has been no increase in radiation levels at the Natanz plant. IAEA head Rafael Grossi said nuclear facilities “must never be attacked” and such strikes have “serious implications for nuclear safety, security and safeguards, as well as regional and international peace and security”.

The British government privately threatened to defund and withdraw from the International Criminal Court if it issued arrest warrants for Israeli leaders, Middle East Eye can reveal. David Cameron, then foreign secretary in Rishi Sunak’s Conservative government, made the threat in April 2024 in a heated phone call with Karim Khan, the British chief prosecutor of the court. Less than a month later, Khan announced that he was seeking arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his then-defence minister, Yoav Gallant, as well as for Hamas leaders Yahya Sinwar, Ismail Haniyeh and Mohammed Deif. Cameron told Khan that applying for warrants for Netanyahu and Gallant would be “like dropping a hydrogen bomb”. Cameron said it was one thing to investigate and prosecute Russia for a “war of aggression” on Ukraine, but quite another to prosecute Israel when it was “defending itself from the attacks of 7 October”. He claimed the warrants would have “profound implications” in Britain and within his own Conservative Party. Cameron then said that if the ICC issued warrants for Israeli leaders, the UK would “defund the court and withdraw from the Rome Statute”. Cameron, who currently sits as a Conservative peer in the House of Lords, the upper house of the UK parliament, accused the prosecutor of singling Israel out. He asked why Khan’s office had not “prosecuted Iran for its attacks on Israel”. Cameron further said that if the ICC issued the warrants, the UK would be “required to arrest” Netanyahu if he travelled to the country. Khan told Cameron that his office had engaged with Israel for the past three years, but it had “not resulted in any meaningful exchange of material relevant to investigations”. According to MEE’s sources, the foreign secretary spoke aggressively and repeatedly shouted over Khan, who had to ask to be able to complete his points. The prosecutor noted that his office was investigating crimes committed by Hamas as well as Israel, but Cameron said this was drawing a “moral equivalence” between the two. He stated again that the UK would withdraw from the Rome Statute. Khan replied that “if this were to occur then we would have to accept that the rules-based system would be dead”. Cameron insisted that “the world is not ready for this”. He told Khan he was “on the brink of making a huge mistake. You sometimes need to take a step back and consider things”. But Khan refused to back down and continued defending his position. He said there was a “serious risk” that many in the world would view the rules-based order as “not being applied equally”. Khan thanked the foreign secretary for his call and the conversation ended without the two reaching any resolution.

He said: “During one extremely hostile meeting of the Parliamentary Labour Party Committee they confronted me and said will you give a blanket undertaking that you, as party leader and potentially prime minister, will automatically support any military action Israel undertakes? “And I said no, I will give no such undertaking, because the issue of Palestine has to be resolved and Palestinian people do not deserve to live under occupation, and the siege of Gaza has created such incredible stress. “By the way I’ve been there on nine occasions in Israel, Palestine and the West Bank.” He had been suspended by Labour since 2020 after he refused to fully accept the Equality and Human Rights Commission’s findings that the party broke equality law when he was in charge and said antisemitism had been “dramatically overstated for political reasons”. Corbyn has been a prolific campaigner for Palestine and has hit out at the UK Government for continuing to supply arms to Israel. In an interview with The National earlier this year, he said he wished he “understood” Britain and America’s seemingly unflinching support for Israel. Corbyn went on to say he was shocked at the remarks made to him which seemed “to undermine the whole principle of international law”. “When the Israeli forces started attacking Gaza after October 7, October 7 was wrong and the response of killing tens of thousands of people doesn’t bring anybody back and has created the hatred and the wars of tomorrow and the year after and the year after,” he added. “So was I surprised at this support for Israel? No, because the pressure of Israel on the Israeli government, on the Labour Party, is huge. “But then again there’s also some wonderful people in Israel who very bravely oppose what their government is doing and oppose the occupation. But I was absolutely shocked when remarks were made which appear to me to undermine the whole principle of international law. The bombing of civilian targets is a war crime.”

Our fight is against the murderous Islamic regime that oppresses and impoverishes you,” Netanyahu said. “The time has come for the Iranian people to unite around its flag and its historic legacy, by standing up for your freedom from the evil and oppressive regime,” he added. “This is your opportunity to stand up and let your voices be heard.” Iran’s regime is oppressive. It hangs poets and journalists, gasses schoolgirls for protesting against being forced to wear head scarves and takes foreigners hostage. It has backed murderous campaigns by Hamas, created the militia-cum-mafia that is modern Hezbollah, and used the Houthis of Yemen to destabilise world trade through the Red Sea. These are “military” operations, and so, for now, Israel is focusing its efforts on Iran’s military officers and capabilities. The message from Israel, though, to politicians and surviving soldiers, is that the smart money lies in removing the mullahs who have ruled Iran before Israel kills them, or another revolution sweeps every element of the current system away.

The ultra-Orthodox parties are furious that the government has failed to pass a law exempting their community from mandatory military service, an issue that has long divided the Jewish Israeli public, especially during the 20-monthlong war in the Gaza Strip. While many expect a last-minute compromise, the vote is the most serious challenge to Netanyahu’s government since Hamas’ Oct. 7, 2023, attack, the biggest security failure in Israel’s history. The opposition submitted a bill to dissolve the Knesset, Israel’s parliament. In response, coalition members submitted numerous bills, packing Wednesday’s schedule and buying time for last-minute negotiations. The dissolution vote, if it is not pulled, is expected to take place late at night. Separately, Argentina’s President Javier Milei will address the Knesset on Wednesday. The bill must pass another three readings before parliament is dissolved, a process that could take days or weeks. Even if the bill passes, it could take weeks or months for new elections to be called. If the bill fails, another vote for dissolution cannot be brought again by the opposition for at least six months. The opposition could still pull the bill if there isn’t enough support and submit it again in the coming weeks. Netanyahu’s coalition includes two ultra-Orthodox parties, and both would need to support the dissolution bill for it to pass. On Tuesday, top ultra-Orthodox, or Haredi, rabbis issued a religious decree emphasizing their stand against military service, which complicates the Haredi politicians’ ability to negotiate. Military service is mandatory for most Jews in Israel, but the politically powerful ultra-Orthodox, who make up roughly 13% of Israeli society, have traditionally received exemptions if they are studying full-time in religious seminaries. The ultra-Orthodox, also known as Haredim, or “God-fearing” in Hebrew, say that integrating into the army threatens their traditional way of life.

Tata cited £1m daily losses before the blast furnaces were shut off. “A Reform UK Senedd will also save hundreds of millions each year by cutting bureaucracy, waste and bad management. The establishment of Welsh DOGE will help us uncover where there is woke and wasteful spending and we will make sure those funds are redirected to frontline services,” stressed Mr Farage. At the press briefing, Mr Farage targeted the contentious 20mph speed limit initiative, vowing to scrap it, whilst expressing scepticism over the activation of the electric arc furnace at Port Talbot’s Tata Steel plant, asserting instead his strategy to “reindustrialise Wales”. Rediscovering the “Forgotten Creators” of the German atomic bomb Summer 1945 interrogations of Rudolf Zinsser, a German pilot, revealed he had been assigned to fly near the test site (likely with a plane full of instruments) during the test and again an hour later. Zinsser correctly described many details of the blast wave, electromagnetic effects, and multiple colors from beta decay of the fission products in the mushroom cloud that were not public knowledge at that time. After investigating Zinsser’s story for a few months, the United States upgraded his interrogation report from secret to top secret. Several other German, U.S. Army Air Forces, Manhattan Project, and Office of Special Services reports also mention this test, yet the details remain classified over 80 years later. A number of German, Polish, and U.S. intelligence sources reported a second test in Poland in or around November 1944. Currently available documents do not name the test site; Germany had weapons testing areas scattered all over Poland during the war. According to several of the sources, German forces placed many concentration camp prisoners at the test site as human guinea pigs, then delivered the bomb by air, with predictably tragic effects. The final two reported German nuclear weapons tests occurred in March (some sources report March 4 and 12) 1945 somewhere in Thuringia, most likely at the large and relatively isolated Ohrdruf military base. As with the Polish test, German forces reportedly placed concentration camp prisoners around the test site. These March 1945 tests are described in considerable detail by a series of wartime and postwar Soviet intelligence documents at the highest levels. Those details were independently confirmed after the war by Werner Grothmann. The tests are also mentioned in U.S. intelligence documents, although any details remain classified. It appears that all these test explosions were kept as small as possible by using as little fission and fusion fuel as required, in order to conserve weapons-grade fuel, to try to maintain secrecy, and minimize the mess made on German-controlled territory. Each test had a yield on the order of a kiloton or even less, even though the medium weapon design probably could have delivered tens of kilotons with a full load of fuel. After eight decades, the resulting radioactivity would have decayed around a billion-fold, making it far below the levels of natural background radiation and undetectable with a Geiger counter now. If Germany possessed nuclear weapons, why did it not use them against the Allies? Franklin Delano Roosevelt and Winston Churchill made repeated public threats that if Germany employed any kinds of weapons of mass destruction, the U.S. and U.K. would respond by dropping vast amounts of mustard agent and other weapons on Germany, which could have killed millions of German civilians. Clearly, that successfully deterred Germany from using its stockpiles of nerve gas, other chemical weapons, biological weapons, and fuel-air explosives. The radio regulatory body received a complaint from “UK Lawyers for Israel’ over a show on BCfm radio, hosted by investigative journalist Tony Gosling. The weekly politics show, on the popular community radio station based in Easton, was reported for several allegations on a show which aired on November 23. Tony Gosling, who was a former BBC journalist between 1989 and 1993, has been producing and presenting ‘The Tony Gosling Politics’ show every week on BCFM radio for 11 years. They have released a statement which reads: “Whilst we are supportive of all our volunteer presenters, The Tony Gosling Politics Show only represents approximately ten percent of our political output content wise, and less than two per cent of our entire weekly output.” Mr Gosling’s programme looks at local politics and he interviews a range of councillors and MPs in the city. The show is also perhaps more well known for its alternative look at international politics, and he has a cult following online from across the world. Mr Gosling has made regular appearances on national media including the politics show with Andrew Neil on BBC One, and international channels such as Russia Today, Channel1 Russia, NTV, and recently for both Turkish and Lebanon TV.
