Mr Lapid himself revealed the meeting after he tweeted a photo of it and described Ms Patel as a true friend of Israel.They also discussed growing anti-Semitism within UK politics, the Cabinet minister said. * The Israel Forum for International Humanitarian Aid (IsraAID) a disaster relief charity used as intelligence cover. * Dr Aliza Inbal director of the Pears Programme for Global Innovation, an organisation working towards technology-based, financially sustainable solutions to poverty. * A dinner organised by the Pears Programme with Innovation Africa (an Israeli non-profit group), Milken Institute (a US think-tank), Energiya Global Capital (a renewable energy company) and the American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee. * Haim Taib the president of the Mitrelli Group, a group of companies involved in infrastructure projects in emerging markets. * A visit to Save a Childs Heart a hospital where Ms Patel met children and their families from Gaza and Africa who received life-saving heart surgery. * Dr Hirschfeld, Shimon Hefetz of the Galilee International Management Institute, a management training institution. * A meeting with a group of start-ups with a focus on Africa including Vital Capital, MobileODT, Equatel Health, Cassit Orthopedics, Ltd, NUFiltration Ltd and Fair Planet. Ms Patel was given a demonstration of new technologies for development, including mobile cancer screening, water filtration, splints and supports for people with disabilities. * Jean Judes and Pablo Kaplan of Beit Issie Shapiro and Wheelchairs of Hope, respectively, charities for disabled children. Labour has also accused Ms Patel of misleading the British public, because she admitted the Foreign Office was not informed about the meetings three days after claiming Boris Johnson had been told. There was fresh anger when she failed to turn up to answer questions from MPs about the meetings, because she was in the air, en route to Africa.

Police lying about injuries. Guardian – Police retract claims that officers suffered broken bones at Bristol protest – Avon and Somerset force said in press release officers had broken bones and one had a punctured lung – Avon and Somerset police have retracted widely reported claims that officers suffered broken bones and a punctured lung during attempts to disperse a protest on Sunday night. There was widespread outrage when the force made the claims in a press release on Monday that a total of 20 officers were assaulted or injured and two of them were taken to hospital after suffering broken bones. One of them also suffered a punctured lung. But in an updated press release on Wednesday, the force clarified this was not true, saying: Thankfully, following a full medical assessment of the two officers taken to hospital, neither were found to have suffered confirmed broken bones. Around the same time, a BBC reporter said on Twitter that Andy Marsh, the head of the force, had admitted in a press conference that no officer had a punctured lung. However, the force has since updated the number of injuries suffered by police officers to 40. The Guardian has contacted Avon and Somerset police for clarification on why these claims were made and to request a list of the injuries sustained by officers policing Sunday nights protest. The force had not replied by the time of publication. Kevin Blowe, the coordinator of Netpol, which campaigns around the policing of protest, said exaggerated claims of injuries by police were not without precedent. Its par for the course, Blowe said.

People have flagged up the whole business of the injuries at Kingsnorth that were used to crack down on the protest there, which turned out to be insect bites [and] exhaustion. Regarding the claims of injuries at Bristol, Blowe said: It does raise concerns that Avon and Somerset may have been trying to sell the case not only for their operation on the night, but for what happens next. Bristol is geared up for raids on homes. Saranya Thambirajah, a University of Bristol student who was at the protest on Sunday, said she was frustrated at how the false claims by police had come to dominate media reports of what happened. She said: Its just frustrating because obviously Sunday was a very explosive day. No one expected things to go down the way that they did and its unfortunate that people got hurt. But the media narrative that came out was very much focused on the fact that these officers got broken bones, had punctured lungs, were very seriously injured. I think thats what a lot of the public now associate those protests with and its the first thing people are going to think of, when in reality thats not true. Its frustrating because it takes attention away from the actual cause of the protest, why people were there, how the police treated protesters. There were a lot of protesters that were hurt as well, people were pepper-sprayed, people were battered by the police. No one was talking about that.

Questions were also raised about the status of EU migrants and those from outside the UK considering the imminent Brexit and how we might organise in solidarity through groups such as the Anti-Raids network, aswell as how to form greater unity with the burgeoning tenant’s rights movement with such groups at the London Renter’s Union and ACORN.

In CP terms, beyond authority means to abuse the authority of your paid employment for control and private gain. Beyond authority is Mrs Middletons phrase for dissolving democracy, and shes doing it on a vast scale. We quickly learn that Mrs Middletons charity is very different from others. Middleton seems obsessed with power, wealth and money, be it with the Deutsche Bank, Morgan Stanley, UBS, Natwest, Lehman Brothers, The Young Foundation, Unilever, KPMG, The Financial Times, Imperial Tobacco, the Chairman of the Law Society, Chief Constables, and a host of named elitist individuals. As Sir Derek Higgs, Chairman, Alliance and Leicester plc says on the rear cover Julia Middleton has a contact list to die for.

Dark arts In his Foreword, Sir David Bell, Chair of the Financial Times, attempts to explain Middleton and her work in terms of leaf people, forest people, alchemy, and magic. He praises Charles Darwin. The undertone is certainly humanist, and with an encroaching darkness, it directs people to undertake continual change, thus destroying the old, without specifying anything to change to. Confusion and inactivity results. CP has used this well established Frankfurt School subversion technique on the NHS (National Health Service), which it has been paralysed, and also on the Conservative Party. In the book itself, the word conspiracy is used repeatedly to describe the process of Common Purpose networking, and the reader is even asked if the dark arts apply. There is no Christian charity in this book, and with its wealthy clients, CPs charity status should be revoked immediately.

The move also marked the first time in three decades that the UK or the EU had punished China for human rights abuses, and both will now be working hard to contain the potential political and economic fallout. China hit back immediately, blacklisting MEPs, European diplomats and thinktanks. The US and Canada also imposed sanctions on several senior Chinese officials as part of the coordinated pressure campaign. The UK foreign secretary, Dominic Raab, said China’s treatment of the Uighur minority was “the largest mass detention of an ethnic and religious group since the second world war”. Evidence of repression in Xinjiang “is clear as it is sobering”, he said. The sanctions will be imposed immediately and include travel bans and asset freezes on four officials, Raab told MPs. “Amid growing international condemnation, [China] continues to commit genocide and crimes against humanity in Xinjiang,” said the US secretary of state, Antony Blinken. “We will continue to stand with our allies around the world in calling for an immediate end to the PRC’s crimes and for justice for the many victims.” The Chinese ambassador to the EU, Zhang Ming, had given advance warning that there would be countermeasures, including against those organisations spreading “lies” about the situation in Xinjiang. China also said it was sanctioning 10 EU individuals and four entities. The German Green politician Reinhard Bütikofer, an active voice in the Inter-Parliamentary Alliance on China (IPAC), a group that attempts to reform the approach of democratic countries to China, was among five MEPs sanctioned. Two academics were also targeted.

Decades of research on ‘controlled breeding’, including through means of sterilization, soon became accepted mainstream science at the turn of the century and the eugenics movement was born. Supporters of eugenics believe people inherit mental illness, criminal tendencies and even poverty, and that these conditions can be ‘bred out’ of the human gene pool through forced sterilization. Not surprisingly, ‘undesirable’ traits were concentrated in poor, uneducated and minority populations. Many professionals in the scientific and biological fields rigorously researched ways to ‘improve the human race’ through means of eliminating these ‘negative traits’, and the movement would soon garner widespread political support ­ particularly in Australia. As we have explored, the likes of Professor Richard Berry and growing Eugenics Societies of NSW and Victoria played a pivotal role in mass campaigns for laws allowing the establishment of a ”lethal chamber” to euthanise what these groups called ”the grosser types of our mental defectives”. Following World War I, numerous eugenics-based ideologies were beginning to enter mainstream societies across the world. However, after Hitler would adopt these concepts and implement an aggressive form of the concept, the world grew sour and a new change was needed to continue.

Labour Party apparatchiks SW Officials Phil Gaskin, Dominic Collins and Hayley Jackson choosing right-wing Blairite candidates for local elections, not local Labour party members or branches. To members of Lockleaze Labour Party We are writing to you to let you know that we, the committee of Lockleaze Labour Party, have taken the decision to resign. We feel that we have no other choice. In October 2020, a meeting was to held to select two candidates to stand as councillors in elections to be held in May 2021 as both our longstanding councillors Gill Kirk and Estella Tincknell were retiring. The process was overseen and approved by the Bristol Labour Party Campaign Forum which was responsible for the selection of candidates. There were six excellent local candidates. The two candidates selected by due process were Alfie Thomas and Anna Lart Greene (see attached photo). Both are in their twenties, committed to the local area and able to speak up for local people on Bristol City Council. However, our chosen candidates were blocked by the South West Labour Party Regional Director and no one from Regional Office has talked to us about reasons for doing so. Instead, Regional Office took over the selection process. They have not met their timetable for the selection of candidates which means that we still do not have Labour Party candidates in place for May’s election, despite campaigning officially starting on March 15th. Resignation of Labour councillor Jo Sergeant over bullying by the mayor – 4th Councillor to leave since March – Former Labour councillor launches scathing attack on Bristol mayor and local party leadership Claims of a culture of ‘fear and bullying’ dismissed as ‘personal vendetta’ by mayor’s office A Bristol councillor has launched a scathing attack on the Labour group after quitting the party earlier this month. Councillor Jo Sergeant’s claims, which allege there is a culture of “fear and bullying” within the party, and make particular reference to elected mayor Marvin Rees and Bristol Labour Group leader Marg Hickman, have been dismissed as a “personal vendetta” by the mayor’s office. Her resignation statement comes two months before local elections and just before a full council vote tonight (March 16) on whether to hold a referendum on the elected mayoral model next year. Now representing Avonmouth and Lawrence Weston as an independent, Cllr Sergeant quit the Labour group after voting in February against its intention to freeze council rents, a controversial issue which split the group in the weeks before it was passed by full council as part of next year’s budget. Her resignation statement released on Friday night (March 12) describes the Labour party as being “focused on power for power’s sake and beset with a culture of fear and bullying”. Cllr Sergeant said the Bristol Labour Group is dominated by Mr Rees and Cllr Hickman who “through their allies…control the agenda and restrict opportunity for debate on issues they do not wish to be discussed”. Making public accusations which a small handful of Labour councillors have expressed privately, Cllr Sergeant said Mr Rees sees local councillors as an “annoying inconvenience” and has “no respect” for any members other than those Labour individuals in his “inner circle”. She said he set up the City Office and One City Boards as an “alternative council” to make policy in a way that “circumvents democratic process”. Cllr Sergeant’s comments drew both criticism and support from other Labour councillors on social media. Rebel backbencher Nicola Bowden-Jones, who also voted against the council rent freeze and was the only Labour member to vote against next year’s budget on February 23, said she was “proud” of her “courageous” colleague for going public. I support everything you have said, and respect how difficult a decision this has been for you,” Cllr Bowden-Jones said. Lockleaze Cllr Gill Kirk, who is not seeking re-election in May, said: “All I see here is a concerted effort to bring down a Labour administration. Very sad.” A spokesman for Mr Rees said: “The mayor and cabinet are completely focussed on keeping Bristolians safe and protecting their jobs. Our energy is going into the city’s Covid response and recovery – not being spent on rebutting people’s personal vendettas.” Neither Cllr Hickman nor the regional Labour group, which also came in for criticism from Cllr Sergeant for imposing its choice of local election candidates, responded to a request for comment. Cllr Sergeant, who has said she is “considering her options” ahead of May’s elections, is an opponent of the elected mayoral model, which she believes puts too much power in the hands of one person. She voted against it in the referendum of 2012 which led to the city getting its first directly elected mayor, George Ferguson, who was also criticised for exercising too much power. However, Cllr Sergeant said she will not vote tonight in favour of a motion to hold a referendum in 2022 on whether the role should be kept or scrapped. She said the referendum would allow voters to choose only between keeping the mayoral system in 2024 or reverting to a leader and cabinet model of governance, which “still encouraged party-political bickering over constructive policy making [and] still left most Bristolians’ elected representatives with very limited involvement”. Cllr Sergeant, who is an opponent of Keir Starmer’s leadership of the party, said she would be campaigning instead for a “committee system” which “enables true democracy and accountability”. The motion from the Liberal Democrat group is unlikely to pass when councillors vote on it tonight. Following Cllr Sergeant’s departure, the Labour group including Mr Rees numbers 34, which is equal to the total number of opposition councillors.

Cllr Sergeant is the fourth councillor to leave the group since March last year when Eastville representative Sultan Khan defected to the Liberal Democrats saying he was tired of “infighting” within the party. Harriet Bradley quit her Brislington West seat in July 2020 over ill health, after being suspended from the Labour Party while it investigated a controversial social media post referring to “the right kind of Jews”. Former cabinet member for housing Paul Smith stepped down in September after being appointed chief executive of Elim Housing Group. However, Labour is not the only political group on the council to lose members since the 2016 local elections. The Conservatives lost Brislington East councillor Tony Carey to the Liberal Democrats in September 2019, and Green member for Clifton Down Clive Stevens stood down due to ill health in January of this year. A number of councillors have announced their intention not to seek re-election in May having been required to serve another year after last year’s local elections were postponed because of the coronavirus pandemic.

The Police, Crime, Sentencing and Courts Bill passed its second reading 359-263 after it was overwhelmingly backed by Tory MPs. There were no Tory rebels and only three Tory MPs did not vote either way: Anne Marie Morris, Desmond Swayne and Charles Walker. It will now go into a committee stage where MPs will try to pick away at the most controversial elements of the proposed law before it is passed in full, and handed over to the Lords. It comes despite outrage about parts of the wide-ranging, 176-clause Bill – especially 10 clauses relating to protests and camping. The Bill would make it illegal to inflict “serious annoyance” on a person without reasonable excuse, with up to 10 years’ jail in theory. Police will be able to tell one-person protests to stop shouting and impose noise limits, start and finish times on gatherings.

For anyone concerned about civil liberties in the UK, Priti Patel’s deeply troubling attitude to dissent seems to have fuelled yesterday’s heavy-handed response by the police to a peaceful vigil by women on Clapham Common mourning the brutal murder of Sarah Everard, allegedly by a serving police officer. The sight of policemen using force to break up the vigil was an act of truly astonishing insensitivity, and while there are clearly questions to be asked of the officers involved ­ concerning their blatant ‘manhandling’ of grieving women, and claims that some officers deliberately trampled on flowers left by woman at the vigil, as well as the risibility of the Metropolitan Police’s own claims about them having to break up the vigil because of concerns about public safety in light of the ongoing Covid regulations ­ it seems most pertinent to look up the chain of command for an explanation of how and why such a heavy-handed and insensitive display of force took place ­ and that chain of command leads inexorably, via the Met Commissioner Cressida Dick, to Priti Patel.

Such weapons include “emerging technologies that could have a comparable impact” to chemical, biological weapons or other nuclear weapons. Demilitarise the 2021 census – Its being processed by an arms company… again! This year, the contract for processing census forms has been put in the hands of Leidos, one of the worlds biggest military companies. So far, there hasnt been much debate about this. Wed like to change that. We invite you to take action through the census form itself, to suggest to your friends they do the same and, crucially, (a) tell your local paper about what youre doing and (b) tell us what youre doing! In 2011, the contract for processing the census in the UK was awarded to the US arms company Lockheed Martin (strictly speaking, to its British subsidiary), leading to quite a lot of protest, including by the Count Me Out network. The part of Lockheed Martin that ran the UK census in 2011 was its information systems and global solutions section. This business arm was sold off to Leidos in 2016, and no doubt helped Leidos win the 65m contract for census questionnaire management in the UK. So, it is pretty much the same people/organisation doing the census work in 2021 as did it in 2011. Its just that they are now housed in a company specialising in government IT work, including a ton of military and intelligence IT work. Who is Leidos?  Leidos was listed by the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI) as the 19th biggest arms and military services company in the world in 2019, with military sales of $5.3bn out of total sales of $11.1bn. Here in the UK, Leidos does a lot of work for the MoD the British military paid Leidos 276m for various services in 2016 2017, CAAT points out. Leidos mainly does military IT and support services, though it did buy a military hardware company, Dynetics, for $1.65bn in 2020. Dynetics is a developer of future defence technologies for the US military, including long-range hypersonic missiles, ground-based laser weapons, the Gremlin recoverable drone, and the Gunsmoke battlefield intelligence microsatellite. Leidos says: We have extensive experience in airborne operations, maintenance, intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance with all the Armed Services. In 2019, before buying Dynetics, Leidos won a contract with the US army to provide aircraft intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR) support services. Overall, Leidos says its military work includes large-scale intelligence systems, command and control and intelligence analysis and operations support.

The chairman of Harvard’s department of chemistry and chemical biology was arrested and charged Tuesday with lying about his links to a Chinese university, the latest case to surface in the US government’s crackdown on suspected espionage and scientific theft. Federal authorities said Charles Lieber, a prominent nanoscientist and a prolific inventor and entrepreneur, received hundreds of thousands of dollars from his Chinese connections. He shuffled into a Boston federal courtroom in shackles Tuesday to face charges that stunned the area’s scientific community. “The Chinese government‘s goal … is to replace the United States as the world superpower and it’s breaking the law to get there,” Joseph R. Bonavolonta, the FBI special agent in charge of the bureau’s Boston office, said at a news conference. China “wants what we have so they can gain the upper hand,” he added.

Philip Giraldi – ‘More Suggestions for Dealing with Israel: banning duel nationality is a good place to start’ More Suggestions for Dealing with Israel Recusal and banning dual nationality good places to start PHILIP GIRALDI  MARCH 2, 2021 My article last week that made some suggestions about what ordinary Americans can do to put pressure on Israel and on the lopsided bilateral relationship with Washington that has done so much damage to the United States proved to be quite popular. It also resulted in some comments by readers who saw other issues that might be considered pressure points that could be exploited to bring about change or at least to mitigate some of the damage. Two areas that were mentioned a number of times were the possibility of recusing the most strident Israeli partisans from some discussions on Middle East policy and also refusing to issue security clearances to American government employees and politicians who are dual national citizens, which raises the issue of dual loyalty. Recusal is defined as removing oneself from participation to avoid a conflict of interest due to lack of impartiality while refusing to issue clearances would completely block dual national Israeli and other foreign citizens from having high level positions in the U.S. government. Some would argue that recusal is an excessive punishment that will limit debate on a key foreign policy issue. It will also inevitably be perceived by the usual suspects as anti-Semitic since the only ones who would be excluded would be some Zionists, but they miss the point, which is that the current system does not in any way permit the review of a range of points of view on the Middle East since it is monopolized by Jews and friends of Israel. And there is a precedent. Not so long ago the U.S. State Department had an informal policy that discouraged the selection of Jewish ambassadors for Israel. The intent was to prevent any conflicts of interest and also to protect the ambassadors from inappropriate pressure. There also existed a cadre of so-called Arabists who dealt with issues in the Middle East alongside Jewish officers in the State Department. In the 1950s and 1960s a concerted effort was made by Jewish organizations and Congress to weed out the Arabists and currently nearly all the working level handling of policy formulation for that region is being done by Jews. One might assume reasonably that the concentration of decision making in the hands of a partisan group, whether Arabists or Zionists, would inevitably not be in the U.S. national interest, and so it has proven if one looks at the shambles in the arc from Afghanistan over to Lebanon.

John Harris – research suggests Deputy Fuhrer Rudolf Hess was planning to meet King George VI’s brother Prince George at RAF Dundonald near Troon, Ayrshire – 1941 mystery flight to England. Author John Harris shares evidence RAF Dundonald may have been the secret destination of Rudolf Hess who lost his way and had to bail out on his bizarre flight to Britain on 10th May 1941. Harris also suggests Prince George may have been waiting there for Hess to discuss the coup attempt that, as it transpired, never was, and anyway may simply have been an MI6 lure. The latest book from John Harris and Richard Wilbourn continues to build on their longstanding research into the Hess mystery over 25 years. Slowly, the fog that has descended over the Hess case is beginning to clear and Harris and Wilbourn expand here on the implications of their recent findings. There is now little doubt that MI6 were heavily involved in the Hess affair and this involvement is clearly described and explained. What is not so clear is whether MI6 was acting alone, outside of the incumbent Churchill government, in an attempt to be able to offer a viable peace between Nazi Germany and factions within Great Britain. These factions would much rather have preferred a negotiated settlement to a bloody invasion attempt in the summer of 1941. In order to enter into such negotiations MI6 recruited a Finnish Art historian, Tancred Borenius and sent him to Switzerland in January 1941. Additionally the role of the Polish government in exile is closely examined and in particular the role of Josef Retinger, the arch federalist. The evidence would now suggest that a separate peace was being negotiated, outside of governmental channels. That is why Hess flew to Scotland.

Ian Crane, creator of ‘Alternative View’ conferences, dies from cancer aged 64 – ‘Democracy in Chains’ talk from Nov. 2018. Tributes have been paid to the opponent of fracking, Ian R Crane, who died last week (25Feb2021) after a long illness.  The former oil industry executive campaigned against shale gas extraction through the courts, public meetings, broadcasts and livestream protest videos. He joined or helped to establish protection camps across the UK, including those at Balcombe in West Sussex, Barton Moss in Salford, Upton in Cheshire, Misson in Nottinghamshire and Kirby Misperton in North Yorkshire. He gave talks in towns and villages in potential shale gas areas, introducing some people to the process of fracking for the first time. At the High Court, he challenged terms in injunctions against protests brought by Cuadrilla and IGas. In the case against Cuadrilla, he represented himself, successfully opposing a proposed protest pen . He also contested, unsuccessfully, attempts by Rathlin Energy to declare him bankrupt in a costs dispute over the occupation of land at the Crawberry Hill exploration site in East Yorkshire. Ian Crane broadcast daily video updates from Kirby Misperton when Third Energy was preparing to frack in 2017-2018. His fortnightly online programme, Fracking Nightmare, became a voice piece for many in the anti-fracking movement. He also produced and presented the documentary Voices from the Gasfields about the experiences of landowners in shale areas of southern Queensland in Australia. He campaigned on a wide range of other issues through the Alternative View conferences and his Humanity versus Insanity broadcasts.

Alan Watt, from ‘Cutting Through the Matrix’ website, dies aged 55 – ‘Understand the Control to Set Yourself Free’ talk in 2010. A Glimpse Into the Great Work As a preface to understanding, I think it necessary to go through the standard phases of “waking up.” 1. An Individual vaguely perceives something is wrong in his/her life. This takes the form of fatigue at trying to “keep up” with real or imaginary crisis, encroachment of government into every aspect of life, increasing taxation and so on. Sometimes it takes the loss of work and the realisation that the safety net they contributed to has a gaping hole in the middle. 2. The individual discovers that justice is a joke and that all control mechanisms go up like a pyramid, taking their property, taxes etc. with it. This wealth then is distributed to “help bail-out” or “prop-up” “failing” transnational corporations. Left-overs are channelled via Overseas Development Corporations to “developing nations,” where the loot is pocketed by front-men and their bureaucrats. Crumbs filter down to social services, which, after being guzzled by directors and staff, leave little for the needy except bundles of forms, in triplicate, of course. 3. The individual looks around for others already exposing “the conspiracy.” These established champions inform him which “conspiracy” books to read. Having then done so, the individual begins to “expose” the corruption, first to friends, then when friendless, he either publishes what he has gleaned or becomes paranoid and withdraws from society altogether. Why does the waking-up process fail to spread quickly through society? 1. He is terribly naive. He believes the massive corruption “just happened” to begin in his own lifetime, otherwise mummy or daddy or teacher would have warned him. It does not occur to him that his Parents, teachers etc. were as conditioned as he was. 2. Most people do not wish to know. They, like farm animals, have been domesticated. Wild animals (original) have natural instincts of self-preservation. They sense the evil intentions of predators and they survive by trusting their instincts. Wild herds do not “hang around” when one or more members drops dead. Specially bred sheep do. 3. Pavlovian conditioning/response indoctrination has been fed to every individual, through schooling. The media then takes over. Peoples’ opinions are simply sound-bites from news, talk-shows or quotes from glossy magazines. 4. Trust replaces the instinct of self-preservation. It over-rides memory and logic. Controllers and shepherds encourage trust. 5. When threatened with loss of possessions, property, access to health care, etc., people turn to government (predators) for help, or/and organised religion. Should an individual persist in pushing for his “rights,” he will be removed from society and placed in a psychiatric hospital or prison on any number of pretexts. The alternative is death by “accident,” or shot by police while ‘resisting arrest.’

FASTING SUGGESTIONS THIS EASTER: Jesus did it for forty days and forty nights. Crikey! Easter is a central annual sacred time for Jews too of course, because Jesus’ crucifixion happened at Passover, a celebration of when the angel of death passed over the (marked out by lambs blood) houses of Jews in Egyptian captivity. Some I know have done forty day fasts, but that’s pretty drastic. Water only fasting, particularly for the overweight, is a powerful spiritual discipline which usually involves a ‘hump’ of feeling grotty between 24-48 hours after the morning your fast begins as your body adjusts to thriving off stored fuel, rather than what you’re digesting.

Have an aim of just three or four days if you’ve not fasted before, possibly longer if you have, and even take a ‘go as long as you can’ if you really want to push it. Fasting is not a ‘hunger strike’ but a spiritual discipline, so if you feel unwell after the 48 hours either stop the fast or take some medical advice. The upside is it’s purging a lot of toxins from your system and allowing your body to do a kind of ‘service’ on itself without all the energy the digestive system takes to run. Also one can feel more spiritually in touch with God, meditative and contemplative, taking rare a step back from life.
So as we enter the week running up to Easter do give water only fasting a thought in these profoundly dark, militant secular, pseudo-scientific times. It’s a challenge of self-discipline, turning one’s body into one’s temple.

If you or your family don’t feel up to a long fast just Good Friday am to Easter Monday supper time may fit. ‘On the third day he rose again’, focuses us on the evil-smashing self-sacrifice of Christ’s death and resurrection. And if you don’t feel up to that you can still go for a St. Thomas Aquinas fast, taking only one meal a day (ST, II-II, q. 147, a. 6).

Although it was Tory Richard “Bunter” Eddy who, perhaps, best summed up the mood. “Since the interim director of growth and regeneration receives £275,000 and this is not reflected in the pay policy table, this makes a COMPLETE MOCKERY of the report,” said Bunter.

The spokeswoman continued: “The premises are not considered a dwelling. As such, it was deemed that those inside were in breach of COVID-19 regulations, namely, contravening a requirement to not participate in an indoor gathering of two or more people. “Officers employed the ‘four Es’ approach which has been standard throughout the pandemic, engaging with individuals and explaining/educating as to why they were breaching the regulations before using enforcement as a final resort. “Unfortunately, an officer was assaulted whilst attempting to manage the situation.” Yesterday (March 10), one of the occupants raised concerns of police abusing their powers, saying officers used coronavirus as a scapegoat to arrest people.

CRIMINALISING TRESPASS, PART THREE: SUFFOCATING SPACES OF RESISTANCE  by Tesni Clare For those who don’t know and there are many who don’t, because the press have been worryingly silent on the matter until recently there are a number of small, self-organised communities of activists living in tents and treehouses between London and Birmingham, along the proposed route of high speed railway HS2. The railway, and the protest camps, thread through some of this country’s last remaining pockets of ancient broadleaf woodland. Whilst many have been evicted, some camps have been there for over a year.  I recently went to stay at Crackley Woods protection camp in  Kenilworth, which acts as the safehold of all camps along the route: a place where activists can rest and recuperate and monitor construction from a rickety watchtower, and a place where people new to the campaign against HS2 can learn about the railway, learn to climb trees, and meet other activists. Despite HS2 Ltd’s multiple attempts to litigate against the camps, they are not criminal places. I found Crackley to be a place of community, care and knowledge-sharing; a place where strangers, bound by nothing but a common love for wilderness, would share meals and build shelters. I felt a strange deja vu for a time I’d never lived, remembering the zealous grassroots activism and ad-hoc, communal living Id seen in photos of the Twyford Down protest camps of 1992. In the soft white moonlight, under a kaleidoscope of stars, I sat with camp residents as smoke spiralled from a glowing fire into the night above. People were sharing melancholic stories of the now 10-year struggle against HS2. Whilst the environmental case against the railway is glaringly obvious, a woman told me that there is a deeply social side to this problem. I then learnt of the necessary acquisition of over 17,000 acres of land, including common land and ancient woodland, and the 50,000 Compulsory Purchase Orders that would be, or already had been issued: people losing their land, family homes and livelihoods, for little or no compensation.

Meghan and Harry’s sensational claims fact-checked: How friend contradicted Meghan’s claim she never Googled Harry, the truth about that secret wedding and whether Archie really should have been a prince Meghan and Harry unleashed bombshell after bombshell in their Oprah interview that was sure to send shockwaves pulsing through the heart of the monarchy. They made jaw-dropping claims of brazen racism and delved into difficult conversations of family rifts. Although much of the interview was an outpouring of emotion, many of the claims can be stood up – or knocked down – with facts. Here, MailOnline drills down into some of the central claims of the interview. Meghan never researched the Royal Family prior to joining Meghan said: ‘I didn’t do any research about what that would mean,’ she said. ‘I never looked up my husband online.’ Fact check: Unlikely Meghan’s claim that she never researched Harry, nor the Royal Family, before entering into the relationship is at odds with claims made in the couple’s biography. Although the Sussexes maintain they did not contribute to Finding Freedom, it was written by friendly journalists Omid Scobie and Carolyn Durand, who say the book was impeccably well-sourced by those closest to the couple. Prior to their first date at Dean Street Townhouse in 2016, the authors write: ‘Naturally both participants in this blind date did their homework with a thorough Google search. Harry, who scoped out Meghan on social media, was interested.’ A friend is also claimed to have impressed on Meghan the attention she would command for dating Harry, saying: ‘This could be crazy…you will be the most wanted woman’. Harry and Meghan were actually secretly wed three days before the Windsor ceremony by the Archbishop of Canterbury Meghan said: ‘You know, three days before our wedding, we got married. No one knows that… We called the Archbishop and we just said, ‘Look, this thing, this spectacle is for the world but we want our union between us.’ Fact check: Unlikely Church of England marriages require at least two witnesses and the public must also have unrestricted access to the building during any marriage ceremony to allow for valid objections against the marriage. At the time the couple were living in the grounds of Kensington Palace, and their residence is off limits to the public. A couple who are already lawfully married cannot choose to re-marry each other, unless there is some doubt as to the validity of the earlier marriage. Reverend David Green, Vicar of St Mary’s, West Malling and the Rector of St Michael’s, Offham, said it was impossible to have had two weddings, adding: ‘I think the Archbishop needs to clarify what did or did not happen three days before.’ This means that one of the two ceremonies was more likely just an exchange of vows rather than a legally recognized wedding.

Archie has a birthright to be a prince Meghan said: Idea of the first member of colour in this family, not being titled in the same way that other grandchildren would be… It’s not their right to take it away’ Fact check: False Archie did not have a birthright to be a prince, but could potentially become one when Charles accedes to the throne. That William and Kate’s children have the HRH title and are styled as prince and princesses – and Archie is not – stems from a ruling more than 100 years ago. In 1917, King George V issued a written order that only royal offspring who are in the direct line of succession could be made a prince and receive HRH titles. The Letters Patent read: ‘…the grandchildren of the sons of any such sovereign in the direct male line (save only the eldest living son of the eldest son of the Prince of Wales) shall have and enjoy in all occasions the style and title enjoyed by the children of dukes of these our realms.’ Under the rules, only Prince William and the Duchess of Cambridge’s eldest son Prince George – as a great-grandson of the monarch down the direct line of succession to the throne – was originally entitled to be a prince. The Queen stepped in ahead of George’s birth in 2013 to issue a Letters Patent to ensure all George’s siblings – as the children of future monarch William – would have fitting titles, meaning they were extended to Charles and Louis. Under the George V rules, Archie would be entitled to be an HRH or a prince when his grandfather Charles, the Prince of Wales, accedes to the throne. Archie wouldn’t get 24/7 security because he wasn’t a prince Meghan said: In those months when I was pregnant, all around this same time, so we (had) the conversation of he won’t be given security, he’s not going to be given a title. Fact check: False Being a prince or princess does not automatically mean royals have police protection. Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie’s security is no longer paid for by the taxpayer. Harry and Meghan no longer receive British police protection, and are understood to be paying for private security. Kate made Meghan cry before her wedding to Harry Responding to claims that she reduced Kate to tears, Meghan said: ‘No, no. The reverse happened.’ Fact check: Contested Reports of a pre-wedding clash between the duchesses first emerged in November 2018, when sources claimed Meghan had been left displeased with a ‘stressful’ dress fitting for the flower girls. Accounts differed as to the source of the row. Some said it was a disagreement on whether the bridesmaids should wear tights – Meghan reportedly believed they should not. Other reports said it stemmed from Princess Charlotte’s dress not fitting, meaning another had to be scheduled. A source said at the time: ‘Kate had only just given birth to her third child, Prince Louis, and was feeling quite ­emotional.’ But during the Oprah interview Meghan flatly denied the reports and claimed it was Kate that left her upset.

However Oprah revealed that Harry confirmed it was not the Queen nor Prince Philip. While currently not commenting on the contents interview, Buckingham Palace are almost certain to push back on suggestions of institutional racism. They could launch an investigation – as they have done with claims of bullying. Harry was financially cut off by the royals Harry said: ‘My family literally cut me off financially, and I had to afford security for us’ Fact check: They wanted to be financially independent When Harry and Meghan announced their intention to step back from being senior royals, they said they wanted to be ‘financially independent’. Before cutting ties, 95 per cent of their money came from Prince Charles’s income from the Duchy of Cornwall, and 5 per cent from the taxpayer-funded Sovereign Grant. Princes William and Harry received most of a £13million fortune left by their mother Princess Diana. Harry is also thought to have had millions left to him by the Queen mother. Meghan has not seen Samantha Markle in almost 20 years Meghan said: ‘The last time I saw her must have been at least 18, 19 years.’ Fact check: False During the interview Meghan distanced herself from her half-sister Samantha, who she said she hardly knows and she grew up ‘an only child’. A photograph from 2008 – 13 years ago – shows Meghan with Samantha at her graduation. Meghan had to turn over her passport, keys and driving licence to royal aides Meghan said: ‘When I joined that family, that was the last time I saw my passport, my driving licence, my keys – all of that gets turned over.’ Fact check: Difficult to verify Senior royals are often pictured driving themselves and it is believed there have never been prior claims of a royal having keys and passports held. Harry and Meghan received police protection, meaning their travel was meticulously planned by officers. Meghan’s press team didn’t defend her when ‘things weren’t true’ Oprah asked Meghan about stories that she made Kate cry, saying: ‘So, all the time the stories were out that you had made Kate cry, you knew all along, and people around you knew that that wasn’t true.’ Meghan replied: ‘Everyone in the institution knew it wasn’t true.’ And Oprah then said: ‘So, why didn’t somebody just say that?’ Meghan said: ‘That’s a good question.’ Fact check: Contested Making a wider point, Mail on Sunday royal correspondent Emily Andrews has said that Meghan’s press team did in fact defend untrue stories, saying this was ‘just not right’. Ms Andrews said that she interacted with a press team who defended the Sussexes ‘again and again and again, told me things were wrong – so didn’t publish – and indeed tried to stop me when true.’

Extend the Freedom of Information Act to corporations and private organisations that provide public services. Abolition of the secret state, such as MI5 and MI6. The IHRA and its examples have been used to conflate anti-Zionism with antisemitism and attack pro-Palestinian movements like the Boycott, Disinvestment and Sanctions campaign (BDS). Even its principal drafter, Kenneth Stern, has stated that it has been abused in order to “chill” free speech on Israel/Palestine. We reject the idea that the Palestinian struggle against oppression and for basic human rights is antisemitic. Freedom of speech and debate are the lifeblood of education, inquiry and a democratic public life, but are increasingly under threat. More details emerged on Friday about the Syrian national who arranged for the three British girls to cross into Syria through the Turkish border to join the Islamic State of Iraq and al-Sham (ISIS). A Haber’s report based on Turkish security sources revealed connections between the spy, British recruits of ISIS and likely the Canadian intelligence service. The Turkish government initially refused to identify the person’s nationality but Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavu o lu announced on Friday that the person was “a Syrian national.” Çavu o lu was the first to break the news on Thursday when he said in a televised interview that a person was caught in connection with smuggling Shamima Begum, 15, Amira Abase, 15, and Kadiza Sultana, 16, the three British girls who left their London homes in early February, into Syria.  – A Haber correspondents claimed he contacted a Canadian embassy official in Jordan called “Matt” and quoted Turkish police sources that Matt was likely an employee of a British intelligence service. Kubilay Gülbek, a senior correspondent for A Haber, said Rashed only acted as a smuggler and was paid by the intelligence service. Gülbek said that based on information discovered on Rashed’s laptop computer, he helped 140 Britons travel to Syria to join ISIS apart from the three girls. Rashed allegedly handed recruits to an ISIS commander who is a British citizen. Quoting his sources, Gülbek said the three British girls were currently in Raqqa and were “brides” for ISIS militants. He told A Haber that Rashed relayed information about people he smuggled into Syria to “Matt” from the Canadian Embassy via WhatsApp. Gülbek said the current addresses of ISIS militants in Britain who left the armed faction and maps of ISIS camps in Syria were also found in possession of al-Rashed.

Dilyana Gaytandzhieva Bulgarian journalist, who uncovered pipeline of arms to Syria, has her Twitter account interfered with. “US, Saudi Arabia and European countries including Germany, UK, Serbia and the Czech Republic are ‘turning a blind eye’“ Asked by the interviewer why she continues to do this dangerous work in war zones, Dilyana Gaytandzhieva replies: “Once you have seen the war in the eyes of a child, you just want to do your best so that this war will end and the world will know the truth. It is often said that the first victim of war, it is the truth.“ “Trud” is Bulgaria’s biggest national newspaper, in terms of circulation. The name means ’Labour’ in English and the paper has a long history, dating back to 1936. It has a pro-government political perspective. So some readers were surprised to read Gaytandzhieva’s report, which implicates Bulgarian arms manufacturers in secretly supplying rockets and other heavy weapons to fighters in Syria. Based on documents leaked to Gaytandzhieva from an anonymous source, her investigation links the state-backed Azerbaijani airline Silk Way Airlines with a covert arms trade. It traces artillery manufactured at Bulgaria’s award-winning VMZ plant in Sopot near Plovdiv to a basement in Aleppo, Syria. The “Trud” report alleges they were smuggled in by using diplomatic papers, and that the US, Saudi Arabia and European countries including Germany, UK, Serbia and the Czech Republic are “turning a blind eye“ to the shipments. Under the regulations of the International Air Transport Association (IATA) the transport of ’munitions of war’ is not allowed on civilian aircraft. So for this reason the diplomatic cover was used, Gaytandzhieva alleges.

More than 30 trials across the world found that ivermectin causes ‘repeated, consistent, large magnitude improvements in clinical outcomes’ at all stages of the disease. The peer-reviewed study, to be published in the US journal Frontiers of Pharmacology, says the evidence is so strong that the drug – used to treat head lice and scabies – should become a standard therapy everywhere, so hastening the global recovery. Study co-author Professor Paul Marik, director of emergency and pulmonary care at the Eastern Virginia Medical School in the US, said: ‘The data is overwhelming – we are in a pandemic, and this is an incredibly effective way to combat it. If we use ivermectin widely, our societies can open up.’ Other medications have been touted as effective treatments for combating coronavirus, only for trials to dash hopes – notably with hydroxychloroquine, the anti-malarial drug. An earlier study by Professor Andrew Hill of Liverpool University also concluded that ivermectin cuts death rates by around three-quarters. He recommended there should be larger trials before it was approved by UK regulators. A new trial of ivermectin as a Covid treatment is due to start shortly at Oxford University. Dr Tess Lawrie, director of the Evidence-Based Medicine Consultancy in Bath, convened an online summit of international experts last weekend to discuss the new data. It included evidence that widespread use of ivermectin in parts of India and South America has led to a big reduction in infections and deaths.

The police have admitted that they supplied information to employers and blacklisting organizations that meant we were denied work and our families suffered, Smith said. Undercover police have acted as agent provocateurs inciting activists to commit serious criminality, he added. Smith coauthored a book on this subject entitled Blacklisted, together with investigative journalist Phil Chamberlain. An engineer and former construction worker, Smith was dismissed from one of his jobs after handing in two reports on asbestos and contaminated water at construction sites in Essex and London. Denied future work, he later found out that his was one of 3,213 names on the Consulting Association blacklist a secret and illegal service used by businesses to weed out workers who raise concerns over wages, workplace treatment, and safety. The Consulting Association, defunct since its existence was revealed in 2009, was itself a close successor to the Economic League blacklisting firm. Years of unemployment took its toll on blacklisted workers with many getting divorced, losing their homes, and some even committing suicide. A 2019 report by exChief Constable Michael Creedon concluded that police including Special Branches and the Security Services supplied information to the Consulting Association. Although the Creedon Report was heavily critiqued by ODriscoll for downplaying and misrepresenting the nature of state collusion, it at least provided some limited official recognition of the problem. Smith suspects that the number of blacklisted workers may be in the tens of thousands. There are [Blacklisting registers] in operation in other sectors [Not Required Back system] in the North Sea and National Staff Dismissal Register in retail, plus various wiki-style HR blacklists online.

And yet, the strategy currently pursued by this government is akin to the enforced removal of the peasant kulaks in Soviet Russia in the 1930s – when many died of starvation – and may yet result in an outcome just as dire. For a start, we delude ourselves if we place our faith in market indices as an indicator that all is well with capitalism. What we are witnessing is the increasing divide between, as the Americans say, ‘Wall Street and Main Street’. The UK government has quite arbitrarily made little effort to protect non-essential and non-digital businesses from its Covid strategies. If you have a bricks and mortar business with no online presence, or are in hospitality or entertainment, forget it. The High Street continues to die, compounded by last-minute changes of strategy. Anyone who knows anything about business knows that the most profitable time of year is the run-up to Christmas. Thus the cruel decision to deny the South East a more social Christmas at such short notice was a classic psychological torture tactic: Promising privileges which are then removed at the last minute without good reason. And for business, where is the compensation for all that unsold stock? Of course, there is the now all too familiar pretext of fighting a virus and the ‘surprising’ discovery that it has mutated. On this basis, it would appear that a warp-speed experimental vaccine becomes a form of ‘paying the Danegeld’, because the virus never actually goes away.
