Michael Gove on anti Semitism in Universities – mentions David Miller. And on the extreme Left, academics such as Professor David Miller and groups such as the Socialist Workers’ Party, the Socialist Party and the Revolutionary Communist Party jostle to share platforms with Islamist groupings, deploy aggressive language about “Zionists”, support calls for intifada and praising te the resistance – a synonym for Hamas – in terms that Jewish students say cause them physical fear. And extreme Islamist groups then weaponise this growing antisemitism to divide Muslim from Muslim. Islamists have demanded that mosques become no-go zones for “Zionists”, that inter-faith dialogue exclude any Jewish voice sympathetic to Israel’s existence, and that believers show that they are truly faithful by demonstrating their commitment in the fight against Israel. By making ardour against Israel and hostility to Jewish voices the litmus test of how good a Muslim you are, Islamists polarise and divide our Muslim communities. That is why none of us can afford to be indifferent to the increasing prevalence of antisemitism in our society. There is a reason television series about the 1930s are called “A Lesson from History”. A growth in antisemitism is both a precursor of greater hate and an enabler of further extremism. Antisemitic tropes which encourage people to think criticism of Israel is muted or censored by Jewish control of the media feed into greater distrust of the “MSM”. That leads to a greater willingness to believe in conspiracy theories and a stronger propensity to seek out “alternative” truth tellers – whether on incel message boards, anti-vax YouTube channels, far-right Telegram groups or Islamist podcasts. And thus,The common ground on which our democracy depends is eroded.

ICJ accuses Israel of starving Gazans – 5 UK Ministers UK: Five ministers included in Gaza war crimes complaint submitted to police A 60-page complaint by legal advocacy group ICJP accuses Israel of using ‘starvation as a weapon of war’ and ‘wilfully causing great suffering’ The International Centre for Justice for Palestinians (ICJP) submitted a new complaint to British police on Wednesday, accusing Israel of using “starvation as a weapon of war” and “wilfully causing great suffering to a civilian population”. Echoing the reasoning laid out by International Criminal Court prosecutor Karim Khan on Monday, the London-based advocacy group highlighted that both accusations were criminal offences under British and international law. The filings by the ICJP this week follow an earlier complaint in January against senior UK politicians, including ministers, alleging their complicity in war crimes committed by Israel in the Gaza Strip. Four senior ministers were included in that complaint and the new accusations include the addition of another, totalling five. The organisation says that Wednesday’s complaint is one of the most comprehensive submitted to Scotland Yard, the headquarters of the Metropolitan police, regarding Israel’s military campaign in Gaza. At 60 pages long, it also contains an 800-page annex containing evidence including expert reports, eyewitness testimonies and reports by medical staff who have worked in Gaza. The complaint was compiled by the ICJP teams, which include former British police officers who were collecting evidence to UK police standards.

Jeremy Smith, a top-ten shareholder in International Distributions Services — the parent company of Royal Mail — has today said that current management can add more value to the struggling company. It comes after the board of International Distributions Services said it had agreed to an offer of £3.57 billion from Czech billionaire Daniel Kretinsky’s EP Group. But Columbia Threadneedle Investments believes that Kretinsky’s current offer of 370p-a-share undervalues the postal company. The Times newspaper has reported concerns among investors, that ‘operational benefits’ of an agreement between Royal Mail and the Communication Workers Union — including a workforce pension scheme surplus and property estate — have not been properly valued. Businessman Mr Kretinsky, 48, already owned more than a quarter of IDS, which controls Royal Mail, Parcelforce and international mailing service GLS. Jeremy Smith (pictured) co-head of UK equities at Columbia Threadneedle Investments Known as the ‘Czech Sphinx’ for his inscrutable nature, his purchase of IDS — which may yet be subject to government scrutiny — could take the UK’s 500-year-old postal service into fully foreign ownership for the first time. The IDS’ board rejected EP Group’s initial 320p-a-share offer last month and has since been engaging with investors. According to The Times, shares in the Royal Mail hit a two-year high after the board recommended the takeover by Mr Kretinsky. But the stock actually remains short of the 370-p-a-share value of the offer. There are also doubts that a Labour government, which could potentially be elected in July, would approve the deal and the offer is too low for some shareholders.

It shows that there are more billionaires than ever before, and they have increased their wealth to record levels. The Forbes wealth editor stated that ‘It’s been an amazing year for the world’s richest people’. This comes at a time of massive global instability, staggering inequality and an urgent need to combat climate and environmental breakdown. According to Forbes, there are 55 billionaires in the UK. Showcasing the massive intergenerational transfer of wealth, every single billionaire under the age of 30 – of which there are 15 – inherited their riches. Just one billion is a staggering amount of money. In fact, if a teacher on the average salary saved every single penny they earned, it would take over 30,000 years to become a billionaire. Raising revenue The level of wealth on display also highlights how much revenue would be raised by introducing wealth taxes. Our work on just six taxes on wealth shows that up to £50 billion a year could be raised and go straight into public services. That’s money to pay for nurses, doctors and dentists and resuscitate Britain’s ailing health service. And the Conservative party will be in opposition but they won’t be the opposition. “They hate each other, they’re split down the middle and what we need is a voice in there of genuine opposition and alternative. The Conservatives can’t provide that, Reform if they win seats in parliament can. “If Rishi Sunak and others thought me not standing in a seat meant they’d get a free ride in the election, they’re quite wrong”. Earlier on Tuesday, Work and Pensions Secretary Mel Stride told LBC: “I’ve got a very simple message around Reform and that is if you vote for Reform, you’re voting for Keir Starmer to walk through the doors of No 10.”

Labour to launch twin strategy for closer UK-EU relations if it wins power  – The future shape of the UK-EU relationship under a Starmer government was discussed in early March at a two-day retreat for EU ambassadors at Stansted Park, an Edwardian stately home in West Sussex. The Financial Times has spoken to four people who were present at the meeting and who spoke on condition of anonymity because it was a private gathering. Lord Peter Mandelson, the former EU trade commissioner and Labour cabinet minister, outlined in a keynote speech the party’s approach to Europe if it was to win power. “Mandelson said the party leadership had to be very cautious in public about its red lines on the single market and customs union, but also said that privately there was more flexibility on areas like dynamic alignment with EU rules and submitting to the jurisdiction of the European Court of Justice,” said a person familiar with the contents of the speech. Mandelson said Labour might also look to deepen the relationship with a veterinary agreement and by relinking with the bloc’s carbon trading market in order to avoid frictions caused by the introduction of the EU’s new carbon tax in 2026.

Map Shows Ukraine’s Record-Breaking Hits on Russian Nuclear Warning Sites Russia’s nuclear ballistic missile early warning radar network has emerged as a key target of long-range Ukrainian strikes, with three facilities having now been attacked by Kyiv’s drones in the past two months. Two such strikes occurred in the past week. First, a drone hit a “Voronezh-DM” radar at the Armavir Radar Station in the southern Krasnodar region on May 22. The site is home to two Voronezh-DM radars with a range of around 6,000 kilometers (3,730 miles). The attack appeared to have damaged a building housing one of the radars, RFE/RL’s Russian Service reported. The site is more than 300 miles from the closest territory currently under Kyiv’s control. The Armavir attack was quickly followed by a more ambitious strike. On May 26, a Ukrainian drone traveled some 930 miles from Kyiv-controlled territory to target a Voronezh-M radar near the city of Orsk, in the Orenburg region close to the border with Kazakhstan.

The extent of any damage at the site in Orsk is as yet unclear. But the attack may represent the longest-range Ukrainian drone strike to date, the list of targets steadily growing as Kyiv prioritizes Russia’s long-range radar and oil-producing facilities. The Kyiv Independent cited an anonymous military intelligence source as saying the drone used in Sunday’s attack flew 1,118 miles; further than the 930 miles claimed in a recent strike on an oil processing plant in Russia’s Bashkiria region. Reuters cited an unnamed Ukrainian intelligence source who confirmed the dual drone strikes. Asked why Russia’s long-range radars were being targeted, the source replied: “They monitor the actions of the Ukrainian security and defense forces in the south of Ukraine.”

Similarity of today’s brinkmanship to nuclear tensions which nearly sparked a nuclear exchange during NATO Operation Able Archer which simulated an attack on Soviet military command centres in 1983.  New Documents Reveal How a 1980s Nuclear War Scare Became a Full-Blown Crisis Over 10 days in November 1983, the U.S. and the Soviet Union nearly started a nuclear war. Now newly declassified documents reveal just how close we reached a mutual destruction — because of an exercise. That exercise, Able Archer 83, simulated the transition by NATO from a conventional war to a nuclear war, culminating in the simulated release of warheads against the Soviet Union. NATO changed its readiness condition during Able Archer to DEFCON 1, the highest level. The Soviets interpreted the simulation as a ruse to conceal a first strike and readied their nukes. At this period in history, and especially during the exercise, a single false alarm or miscalculation could have brought Armageddon. According to a diplomatic memo obtained through a Freedom of Information Act request by National Security Archives researcher Nate Jones, Soviet General Secretary Yuri Adroprov warned U.S. ambassador Averell Harriman six months before the crisis that both countries “may be moving toward a red line” in which a miscalculation could spark a nuclear war. Harriman later wrote that he believed Andropov was concerned “over the state of U.S.-Soviet relations and his desire to see them at least ‘normalized,’ if not improved.”

The secretive annual summit has tried to counter its arcane reputation, but its guest list still reads like a conspiracist’s who’s who of who rules the world. Charlie Skelton in Madrid – This year the Bilderberg summit, now under way in Madrid, turned 70 years old. But the controversial and secretive gathering of the world’s elites shows no signs of slowing down. For decades the Bilderberg meeting, where the rich and the powerful gather behind closed doors to talk about what ails the world, has been the subject – understandably – of conspiracy theories. In recent years, Bilderberg has sought to remake itself and open up a little: more Davos than Illuminati. But it still raises hackles from many observers. Its beady eyes, twinkling with billionaires, are this year fixed firmly on the future. Specifically, the “future of warfare”. And with conflicts raging from Sudan to Ukraine to Gaza, it feels like it is the spirit of the age. This grim subject is being thrashed out under the hum of police drones hovering over the hotel, making sure such luminaries as the king of the Netherlands and the head of Nato are safe inside. Even by Bilderberg standards, the security at this year’s conference is intense, but it managed to gear up even more when the Spanish king’s entourage swept into the venue past a traffic jam of police vans.

The onslaught has been excellent for the company’s bottom line. “Our products have been in great demand,” enthuses Karp. Karp’s fellow Bilderberg insider and Pentagon favourite Eric Schmidt, who used to run Google, is said by Forbes magazine to have been so “inspired by Ukraine’s use of drones on the battlefield” that he has spent the past year “working on a secret military drone project”. But for now, if Ukraine is to win the drone war, Schmidt says that it needs “sustained financial and technical support from Kyiv’s allies”. This sentiment will surely be echoed by Ukraine’s representative at the Madrid conference, the foreign minister, Dmytro Kuleba, who will no doubt be doing his best to coax some extra billions out of the crowd. This year’s Bilderberg is thick with senior ministers and EU commissioners, not to mention the heads of the European Investment Bank and the Bank of Spain. The event itself is being hosted by Ana Botín, the executive chair of Banco Santander, and the heads of numerous other finance giants are attending, including Citigroup, Deutsche Bank and Societé Générale. Big business tends to pick up the tab for Bilderberg, because it’s such a high-end investment opportunity. Bilderberg is the boardroom of the western alliance, so they get to participate in the shaping of the grand strategy and hopefully get a jump on the market.

Ukraine/Russia war turning in to NATO/West vs Russia. Scott Bennett [long interview below], former US Psychological Warfare Officer, on Ukraine/ Russia war and how badly mainstream press covers this. CIA Admits To Instigating War With Russia. – Western imperialism comes out of the closet – Putin has made it clear in several interviews that he is well aware of how US Presidents come and go, and US policy never changes. Vladimir Putin: “I have already spoken to three US Presidents. They come and go, but the politics stay the same at all times. Do you know why? Because of the powerful bureaucracy. When a person is elected, they may have some ideas. Then people with briefcases arrive, well dressed, wearing dark suits, just like mine, except for the red tie, since they wear black or dark blue ones. These people start explaining how things are done. And instantly, everything changes. This is what happens with every administration.” Putin is well aware that it is the CIA who directs US policy. And it is the intelligence agencies of NATO countries who have been covertly instigating war with Russia for decades. In the Tucker Carlson Interview at the Kremlin, President Putin seemed to be speaking directly to the CIA. Twice, playfully hinting that Tucker is a representative of the Intelligence organization. Tucker Carlson: “With the backing of whom?” Vladimir Putin: “With the backing of CIA of course. The organization you wanted to join back in the day as I understand it. We should thank God they didn’t let you in. Although it is a serious organization, I understand.” Tucker Carlson: “Who blew up Nord Stream?” Vladimir Putin: “You for sure.” Tucker Carlson: “I was busy that day. Do.. do you have… I did not blow up Nord Stream, thank you though.” Vladimir Putin: “You personally may have an alibi, but the CIA has no such alibi.” And the CIA responded to Putin via their New York Times media outlet in the recent article, The Spy War: How the C.I.A. Secretly Helps Ukraine Fight Putin. The article admits that the CIA, operating through three different presidential administrations, has transformed the Ukraine into “Washington’s most important intelligence partners against the Kremlin.” They have secretly trained and equipped Ukrainian intelligence officers over the past decade. And constructed a network of 12 secret bases along the Russian border used to launch cross-border attacks on Russian territory. This means the CIA is responsible for the attacks on oil refineries and energy infrastructure. The article describes secret underground command centers established near the Russian border. Financed and equipped by the CIA. A CIA program called ‘Operation Goldfish’ enabled Ukrainians to hack into Russian military networks, break into satellites and decode secret conversations. Two years after the 2014 Western backed coup in Ukraine, the CIA set up training programs for an elite Ukrainian commando force known as Unit 2245. The CIA trained Ukrainian spies who operate inside of Russia, across Europe, and in other places where Russia operates. The article points out that this operation may have even been hidden from Trump. While Trump’s rhetoric was friendly to Russia, his administration of anti-Russia war hawks, such as Mike Pompeo and John Bolton, kept Western aggression moving forward. Which is what Putin has been pointing out for years. Presidents come and go, and the policy never changes. The article says nothing about the several bio-weapons labs that the US admitted to having along Russia’s border. Some of these labs were seized by the Russian federation, who say they are preparing to release a report on them, but have so far remained silent. Putin has made it clear that Russia’s actions in Ukraine was in response to decades of hostile US-NATO military expansion on Russian borders. And the CIA is now admitting this to be true.

Andriy Diachenko said only 10 to 20% are in fact Nazis. Former leader of the unit Andriy Biletsky and said in 2010 that Ukraine’s purpose was to “lead the white races of the world in a final crusade… against Semite-led Untermenschen [subhumans]”. At the meeting in parliament Johnson was pictured holding an Azov banner that shows the neo-Nazi Wolfsangel symbol.

International Criminal Court (ICC) staff were pressured to stop war crimes trial against Netanyahu, prosecutor and her family threatened by Israeli Mossad agent – Israeli spy chief ‘threatened’ ICC prosecutor and her family over war crimes case: Report claims ex-Mossad chief Yossi Cohen tried to pressure Fatou Bensouda into abandoning a 2021 war crimes probe. One individual briefed on Cohen’s activities said he had used “despicable tactics” against Bensouda as part of an ultimately unsuccessful effort to intimidate and influence her. According to accounts shared with ICC officials, he is alleged to have told her: “You should help us and let us take care of you. You don’t want to be getting into things that could compromise your security or that of your family.” Khan also applied for arrest warrants for three Hamas leaders – Yahya Sinwar, Mohammed Diab Ibrahim al-Masri (also known as Deif) and Ismail Haniyeh – for war crimes and crimes against humanity. Israel is not a member of the ICC and does not recognise its jurisdiction. Israel has also faced accusations of genocide at the International Court of Justice (ICJ), the highest United Nations court, which, like the ICC, is based in The Hague. Experts believe ICC indictments further undermine the legitimacy of Israel’s war on Gaza and complicate its exceptional relationship with European allies who are members of the Rome Statute. But the US, the key ally of Israel, is believed to be shielding the Israeli government from the consequences of its international law violations. US President Joe Biden called Khan’s move against the Israeli officials “outrageous”. Secretary of State Antony Blinken suggested that the White House would be willing to work with members of Congress on legislation to penalise the international tribunal. Several US lawmakers have also urged Washington to impose sanctions against the ICC after the court’s request for the arrest warrants. Palestinians fear that Israel and the US will pressure ICC judges into rejecting Khan’s requests.

The message of Israel’s torture chambers [whistleblowers CNN report] is directed at all of us, not just Palestinians By Jonathan Cook 24 May 2024 ‘Black sites’ are about reminding those who have been colonised and enslaved of a simple lesson: resistance is futile On a misty November morning 21 years ago, I was desperately trying to remain camouflaged. Concealed in the foliage of an orange grove in Israel’s rural Galilee, I hurriedly took photos of a drab concrete building not marked on any map. Even the original road sign identifying the site as Facility 1391 had been removed after a local Haaretz newspaper investigation revealed it housed a secret prison. I was the first foreign journalist to track down Facility 1391, most of it hidden within a heavily fortified complex built in the 1930s to suppress resistance to British rule in Palestine. For decades, Israel had secretly held mostly Arab foreign nationals captive at the site, unknown to the Israeli courts, the Red Cross and human rights groups. Many were Lebanese citizens kidnapped during Israel’s 18-year occupation of southern Lebanon. But there were also Jordanians, Syrians, Egyptians and Iranians. This site would soon be known as a “black site”, a term popularised by Washington’s invasion of Iraq that year. Drawing on techniques refined by Israel at Facility 1391, the US would, in the coming months and years, torture Iraqis and others at Abu Ghraib and Camp X-Ray in Guantanamo. No one knew how many captives were held in Israel’s Facility 1391, how long they had been there or if there were more such prisons. However, the first testimonies from inmates revealed horrifying conditions. For most of the time, they were kept in a state of sensory deprivation, made to wear blacked-out goggles, except for when being tortured. In one case that later came to court, a Lebanese captive had been sodomised with a baton by “Major George”, the facility’s torturer-in-chief. Major George would go on to become head of Israeli police relations with the Palestinian population of Jerusalem.

This is connected to the total siege imposed by Israel since 7 October on the Gaza Strip, which involved the closure of crossings and “arbitrarily restricting the transfer of essential supplies – including food and medicine – through the border crossings after they were reopened”. The prosecutor also noted Israel cut off cross-border clean water supplies to the Palestinians in Gaza, blocked humanitarian aid, and attacked civilians queuing for food and aid workers. Khan said the evidence collected by his office “shows that Israel has intentionally and systematically deprived the civilian population in all parts of Gaza of objects indispensable to human survival”. The prosecutor reiterated evidence from international aid groups that famine is present in some areas of the Gaza Strip while other areas are facing imminent famine.

The feeling of helplessness and frustration is overwhelming. Our primary mission is to help those in need, but with the borders closed and no aid coming in, our hands are tied. We are acutely aware of the worsening conditions and the urgent needs of people, and it is heartbreaking to witness their suffering without being able to provide the necessary support.” On 24 May 2024, the International Court of Justice (ICJ) ordered additional provisional measures regarding Israel’s alleged violations in Gaza of obligations under the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide. The court ordered that, in light of the worsening conditions in Rafah, Israel must immediately halt its military offensive, and any other action in the Rafah governorate, which may subject the Palestinian population in Gaza to conditions of life that may lead to their physical destruction, in whole or in part. The court described the conditions in Rafah as ‘disastrous’ and is ‘not convinced that the evacuation efforts and related measures that Israel affirms to have undertaken to enhance the security of civilians in the Gaza Strip, and in particular those recently displaced from the Rafah Governorate, are sufficient to alleviate the immense risk to which the Palestinian population is exposed as a result of the military offensive in Rafah.’ The ICJ reaffirmed provisional measures indicated in its orders of 26 January 2024, and 28 March 2024, applicable throughout Gaza, including Rafah, and called for their immediate and effective implementation. This includes the unhindered provision at scale of urgently needed basic services and humanitarian assistance, and the maintained opening of land crossing points, particularly the Rafah crossing. The Court also ordered Israel to allow unhindered access for any commission of inquiry, fact-finding initiatives or other UN bodies to investigate allegations of genocide. It also reiterated calls for the immediate and unconditional release of all hostages. Israel is required to submit a report one month from today, outlining all measures taken to comply with these orders.

Veterans PTSD Camp Bath was raided in 2021 by MI5 London anti-terror cops who suspected they were hiding firearms and other weapons on the farm. A witness has said that forensic vans are down by the house which is out of sight of the road. They report seeing police searching vehicles as well as the farmhouse and buildings. Meta platforms breach EU law – for spying on the under age. Facebook and Instagram face fresh EU digital scrutiny over child safety measures LONDON (AP) — The European Union opened fresh investigations Thursday into Facebook and Instagram over suspicions that they’re failing to protect children online, in violation of the bloc’s strict digital regulations for social media platforms. It’s the latest round of scrutiny for parent company Meta Platforms under the 27-nation EU’s Digital Services Act, a sweeping set of regulations that took effect last year with the goal of cleaning up online platforms and protecting internet users. The European Commission, the bloc’s executive arm, said it’s concerned that the algorithmic systems used by Facebook and Instagram to recommend content like videos and posts could “exploit the weaknesses and inexperience” of children and stimulate “addictive behaviour.” It’s worried that these systems could reinforce the so-called “rabbit hole” effect that leads users to increasingly disturbing content. The commission is also looking into Meta’s use of age verification tools to prevent children from accessing Facebook or Instagram, or be shown inappropriate content. The platforms require users to be at least 13 years old to set up an account. It’s also looking into whether the company is complying with DSA rules requiring a high level of privacy, safety and security for minors.

According to the report, the training of the Ukrainian soldiers was immediately halted after some were found to be wearing Nazi symbols. German authorities announced that all Ukrainian military personnel arriving for training in Germany will now be explicitly instructed that it is prohibited to display Nazi symbols. The use of Nazi symbols is banned in both Germany and Russia. Russia has condemned Western support for Ukraine, including the training of its soldiers. Nevertheless, Mr Kalinak said the prime minister’s condition was still “really serious”. “Certainly, it does not allow us to make such a transfer in the near future — that is, at the end of the weekend.” Mr Fico was shot four times in the stomach and arm at close range as he greeted supporters, and his injuries were said to be extensive and complicated. This has led to increasingly loud calls for what are called “enhanced efficiencies” – a term drawn from the business world. And some institutions are heeding those calls. They’re drawing wholesale on the logic of the market in their bid to survive. They are becoming administrative universities without truly understanding how such initiatives chip away at the very purpose of higher education: the academic project.

The nature of the academic project differs from institution to institution – some will focus more on workplace employment, others on critical citizenship, and so on. But it will always be about the furthering of knowledge and the development of knowers. In 2011, Benjamin Ginsberg, political science professor at Johns Hopkins University, argued that US universities were losing hold of the academic project by becoming administrative institutions. He also showed that as student numbers increased across the US, the number of academics being employed to teach them and guide their research rose at the same or a slightly slower pace. But there was an astounding simultaneous increase in executive positions, usually people with business rather than academic acumen. Turnout was low. Bristol City Council local election results in full for every ward. Here are the results in full for every ward in Bristol of the local elections held on Thursday, May 2. The votes have now all been counted in the Bristol City Council local elections. The Greens are officially the largest party in the chamber, but fell agonisingly short of an overall majority. The party ended with 34 councillors, two shy of the magic figure of 36 required to be bigger than all the other groups combined. Both Labour and the Liberal Democrats made gains over the Conservatives, but Labour, which ran the council for the last eight years under outgoing mayor Marvin Rees, whose role has been scrapped following a referendum to move to a committee system, ended with a net loss of two councillors, leaving them on 21. The Greens gained an extra 10 seats. The Lib Dems have eight members in the chamber, an increase of three, while the Tories lost half of their 14 seats and now have just seven. Both Knowle Community Party councillors – who defected from the Lib Dems after the 2021 local elections to form their own party – were voted out, including veteran Cllr Gary Hopkins, and were replaced by Greens.

Problems with Greens and Labour sharing power on Bristol Council. What a Green-led Bristol City Council will look like The party’s success at the local elections means they are highly likely to run the authority and attempt to deliver their manifesto pledges The Greens are set to run Bristol City Council – so what can we expect that to mean and what policies are likely to be introduced? Cllr Tony Dyer, the man almost certain to be the new leader, has insisted that while the party is open to ideas from the other political groups, the Greens were triumphant thanks to their manifesto, so fulfilling its promises must be their priority. The document is only 14 pages long. Two of these, at the start and end, are photos of their candidates. Another is a contents page, followed by a brief foreword from group leader Cllr Emma Edwards, a role she will retain even if Cllr Dyer is council leader, and there is also a page outlining what Katy Grant, who finished third in the Avon & Somerset police and crime commissioner election, would have done in the role. That leaves nine pages of actual policies and pledges, although one big complication is the fact that the party is two seats short of an overall majority so will have to rely on support from at least one other group to get anything approved. The proposals include a blanket 20mph speed limit, half-price bus travel for young adults, more residents’ parking zones, which would reverse Labour’s policy over the last eight years in power, protections for libraries and council tax benefits, fewer tower blocks, more affordable homes, decarbonisation schemes, active travel, a workplace parking levy and the possibility of a tourist levy, drug consumption rooms and tidal power from the Severn Estuary. Here is what the Greens hope to achieve:

The used electric car timebomb – EVs could become impossible to sell on because battery guarantees won’t last – find out if you are affected Money Mail can today reveal a timebomb looming in the second-hand market for electric vehicles (EVs). [FROM BEHIND PAYWALL] Our investigation found that many EVs could become almost impossible to resell because of their limited battery life. Experts said that the average EV battery guarantee lasts just eight years. After this time, the battery may lose power more quickly and so reduce mileage between charges. Many EVs will lose up to 12 per cent of their charge capacity by six years. Some may lose even more. Yet the cost of replacing an EV battery is astonishingly high, our research found. In some cases, the cost of a replacement battery is as much as £40,000. For certain EVs, the cost of replacing the battery could be ten times the value of the vehicle itself on the second-hand market. That means used EVs have a limited lifespan — which makes them a bigger and bigger risk as the years go by. Research into EV batteries is yet to be conclusive and the second-hand EV market is new, given the first popular EVs were rolled off the production line in 2009. Last night, one motoring expert said customers should be wary of buying a used electric car beyond its warranty (typically eight years), as after that timespan there is no easy way of measuring how much the battery will degrade before it needs replacing. This may mean you end up needing to pay for an expensive new battery. Motor expert Shahzad Sheikh, who runs the YouTube channel Brown Car Guy, said: ‘With a decaying battery, the range will be poor and you may find it becomes increasingly hard to resell the vehicle after eight years. Buyers will know that they’ll only get a small amount of life out of the car so will pay only a small sum, if anything at all.’ This problem is exacerbated by the fact all new cars coming onto the market by 2035 will be electric and motorists will have to get used to paying around £10,000 more than it’s petrol equivalent, for a vehicle which is not built to last as long. Take a new petrol-driven Renault Clio — it costs around £20,000, while its all-electric opposite, the Renault Zoe, costs closer to £30,000. While you can drive a traditional petrol or diesel car for around 200,000 miles over 14 years before the engine needs fixing or replacing, by comparison a new EV is typically guaranteed under a warranty for 100,000 miles over eight years. Weather also plays a part in how long your battery will last and EV batteries operate best at a temperature between 25-45 degrees Celsius. If you live in a place with freezing winter temperatures, then this will slow the chemical reactions in EV batteries, which can also reduce the charge held over time — and therefore lower a car’s overall range. So you are better off charging your EV car inside a garage rather than outside during the cold winter months. Tom Barnard, of EV experts Electrifying.com, advises motorists to buy a second-hand car with a battery still under warranty. This typically covers the first eight years of motoring or 100,000 miles — whichever comes first. He says: ‘If you purchase an EV older than eight years with more miles on the clock then you are taking a gamble on the battery holding out. You cannot just look at the mileage clock as with a traditional car. ‘There is a wide combination of other variables to consider with an electric car battery. ‘Battery degradation might also become a more important consideration in the future — as we try to be more sustainable — and perhaps be included in an MOT. So, our advice for those who might be nervous about battery life is to buy a car that is still covered by warranty.’ Concerns about battery cost are not helped by a lack of transparency within the industry — with prices of a new battery not advertised. Money Mail requested prices directly from Nissan and no definitive answer was given. Purchasing a battery for your second-hand electric vehicle is not an isolated cost either. You must also consider the labour cost of replacing it, says David Smith, a director at car dealer and garage Cleevely Electric Vehicles, in Cheltenham, Gloucestershire. ‘As a general rule-of-thumb you might budget £2,000 for a specialist to do the task. Batteries are typically placed flat along the length and breadth of the car just above the floor plate and usually not too difficult to get at. ‘But it is a specialist job, and you also need a full understanding of the wiring and may have to reset the computer on the vehicle to accept a replaced battery. Some firms, such as Tesla, will only allow their own dealerships to do the job.’ And what of the fate of an old EV battery that can no longer be used in a car? They typically fetch £1,500 and can be used for holding energy storage for solar panels, but many fear they will end up in landfill. Now a host of new start-ups are racing against the clock to find a way to recycle car batteries past their prime including JB Straubel, former chief Technical Officer of Tesla, who has launched Redwood Materials. Mr Barnard says: ‘The old batteries have an intrinsic worth because of the valuable metals inside them — and even if they are no longer practical for storing electricity they have a scrap value. ‘It is still a relatively new market and we can expect it to grow more as we move towards a more renewable future.’

Nearly five years ago, Jeremy Corbyn was defeated in the 2019 General Election. This defeat was preceded by years of sabotage – from both left and right – and catastrophic capitulations from the Labour leadership, most notably over the largely cooked up “antisemitism crisis” scam. Since then, the Corbyn project has collapsed almost completely, and the left has once again split into varying rival factions. Once again, the left can’t be trusted to organise a piss up at a party conference. How did it go so wrong? We believe that we now have enough evidence to support the claim that what became the “Corbyn Project” was tainted from inception. It was never going to succeed because those who set it up in the first place did not want it to succeed, at least with Corbyn as leader and this at least partially explains why the very organisations supposedly established to support Corbyn accepted the terms of debate set by his internal and external enemies. One explanation for this is that many organisations were, formed, from the start by Plan C, a CIA cutout with a paramilitary wing operating in Syria under CIA direction, in the form of activists sent to the middle east as part of their “Rojava Cluster”. Whilst we do not have enough material to identify specific individuals as CIA assets, we believe that the evidence we have demonstrates that: a) Plan C is, as an organisation a CIA asset or cutout/intermediary; b) Plan C played a major role in establishing the organisations that would become known as the Corbyn movement; c) Plan C then used this position to sabotage and destroy “Corbynism” from the inside

The pharmaceutical titan’s vaccine, once heralded as a ‘triumph for British science’, has come under intense scrutiny in recent months for a very rare complication that causes blood clots and low blood platelet counts. It has been linked to 81 deaths in the UK as well as hundreds of serious injuries. The jab, developed with Oxford University, can no longer be used in the European Union after the company voluntarily withdrew its ‘marketing authorisation’, coming into effect today. Similar applications to withdraw the vaccine will be made in other countries which had previously approved it, including the UK. Around 50 million doses were given in Britain. AstraZeneca’s withdrawal comes months after it admitted in legal documents that its jab can cause the thrombosis with thrombocytopenia syndrome (TTS) reaction. One of those seeking compensation for injuries linked to AstraZeneca’s vaccine is father-of-two and IT engineer Jamie Scott. He was left with a permanent brain injury following a blood clot and bleed on the brain after getting the vaccine in April 2021. The 47-year-old has been unable to work ever since.

As the first magazine in the world, Nya Tider discloses where and when 2024 year’s Bilderberg meeting will take place. Nya Tider has been in contact with the Swedish government office and invoked the country’s constitutionally protected principle of public access to official records, in order to be able to obtain documents relating to the global lobby group’s communication to the Swedish government. Finally, we get to see an e-mail sent to Angela Kennedy, employed as a secretary to Sweden’s EU Minister, Jessika Roswall (Moderate party). It states that the Bilderberg Group meeting takes place in the Spanish capital of Madrid from May 30 to June 2. The message reads as follows: “Hello Angela – Thanks for the call earlier today. As I mentioned, it concerns the minister’s availability to attend the Bilderberg Meetings in Madrid on May 30 from 5 pm until June 2 at lunch. Great if you have the opportunity to tune in and come back shortly. Wish you a nice weekend.” The invitation to Bilderberg came from Sara Nyman at Investor AB, the mighty Swedish business family Wallenberg’s investment company. Source: Nya Tider/Swedish government. The e-mail reveals a startling fact. Sara Nyman, who invited the minister, in fact has no position within the Bilderberg group. Instead, she is employed at Investor AB as an executive assistant to Marcus Wallenberg, which in practice means that she is the closest secretary to the Swedish business magnate. It is also from an e-mail address at Investor AB that she contacts the cabinet committee. Marcus Wallenberg is vice chairman of Investor AB, the Wallenberg sphere’s investment company through which it owns large shares – and thus gains decisive influence – in large Swedish and international companies. For example, Investor AB is the largest shareholder in the bank SEB, where Marcus Wallenberg is chairman of the board of directors. Marcus Wallenberg is also a member of the Bilderberg group’s exclusive steering committee, which is responsible for the invitations. The fact that his secretary is now inviting the EU minister indicates that it is Mr. Wallenberg himself who is responsible for which Swedish ministers get the privilege of participating in the exclusive lobby meeting, which only gathers about 100 people from all over the world. Marcus Wallenberg is a member of the Bilderberg group’s steering committee and the person responsible for which Swedish ministers get the privilege of participating in the lobby meeting. Which ministers will participate is thus still unknown to the public. Susanne Grund, another secretary at the cabinet committee, writes to Nya Tider that they cannot find any additional documents relating to the Bilderberg group meeting of 2024. This despite the fact that the meeting starts already this month. The Bilderberg Group’s well-known strategy is to wait until the very end to make the meeting and its participants public, with the aim of making media scrutiny more difficult. Information before or after the meeting is also not made public by any governments, claiming that whoever attends the meeting does so as a “private person”. The information that the meeting will take place in Madrid at the end of the month has been completely unknown until Nya Tider’s disclosure. The message that Sara Nyman sent to the cabinet committee ends with a text that underlines the private nature of the content. “This message (including any attachments) contains confidential information intended for a specific individual and purpose, and is protected by law. If you are not the intended recipient, you should delete this message and are hereby notified that any disclosure, copying, or distribution of this message, or the taking of any action based on it, is strictly prohibited.” Nya Tider was the only Swedish newspaper to reveal that the government’s NATO negotiator Oscar Stenström attended the Bilderberg meeting last year in Lisbon, Portugal. His presence was secret: he was not on the official list of participants. Shortly after the meeting, he resigned from his position at the government office and was instead employed by Marcus Wallenberg.

The establishment media reverentially relayed the president’s message that the protests were violent and dangerous, treating his assessment as if it had been handed down on a tablet of stone. Biden declared the protesters had no “right to cause chaos”, giving the green light for police to go in with even greater force to clear the encampments. This week, Biden raised the stakes further by suggesting the protests were evidence of a “ferocious surge” of antisemitism in the US. According to reports, more than 2,000 protesters have been arrested after some university administrators – under growing pressure from the White House and their own wealthy donors – called in local police….

Granting legitimacy to the parliament by voting for that very regime, which is responsible for The Crime of Apartheid, a crime that is equivalent in its severity to The Crime of Genocide. 3. The abolishing of this supremacist apartheid regime will certainly not come from the privileged group, but rather in spite of that public, and it is also totally irrelevant what that public thinks of these issues. As in every similar situation – that regime will fall once it loses the legitimacy that it currently receives via the propaganda apparatus of Haaretz newspaper, the Orwellian discourse of lies of the Association for Civil Rights in Israel, and the facade of democracy in its parliament. That loss of legitimacy, along with a massive mobilization from the outside, such as that of the BDS movement, may indeed bring about a fundamental change. The element which is most hindering and inhibiting this change is that group which falsely insists that there is even the slightest form of democracy here.

New leader for SNP, after Greens let down. Scottish independence. Brexit. UK local election results. Tories lose half their Councillors. New Police and Crime Commissioner, Bristol. Shock analysis says Labour will FAIL to win majority at Westminster election – SHOCK analysis has predicted Labour will FAIL to win a majority at the next election. Taking the results so far announced in the English local elections on Friday, Sky News elections analyst predicted Keir Starmer’s party will become the largest party after the General Election. But in a major twist, Professor Michael Thrasher said they would fall short of an overall majority – meaning they would need to cut a deal with a smaller party to form a government. He said the party would win 294 seats – which is 32 seats short of the 326 boundary needed to form a majority. With more than half of wards declared, Professor Thrasher said Labour’s vote has risen from 33% in 2019 to 35% on the current estimate. He said the Tories were on just 26% of the vote, a 19-point drop compared with the 2019 General Election and one of its worst ever performances in any set of local elections. Meanwhile, the LibDems are 16% up five points on 2019, though Sky News said the party often out-performed in local elections. But a major assumption in the analysis is that votes for nationalist parties like the SNP in Scotland and Plaid Cymru in Wales will be unchanged. This means Labour will need to win big in Scotland to gain even a slim majority. The party currently holds two seats in Scotland but is projected to win seats across the Central Belt.

Bristol Clean Air Zone row erupts over expansion prospect – MP becomes embroiled in political storm after challenging Greens over their policy – A political row blew up after Labour MP Darren Jones challenged Bristol’s Greens to come clean on whether they would expand the city’s Clean Air Zone. Mr Jones demanded answers in an open letter on social media on Tuesday, April 30, hours after Green Cllr Heather Mack refused to rule out extending the CAZ. The MP told Green national co-leader and outgoing Bristol city councillor Carla Denyer that including more roads in the zone would be of “great concern” to residents living outside its boundaries and asked her to clarify the party’s stance urgently ahead of Thursday’s local elections. Cllr Denyer replied on X – formerly Twitter – that an expansion was not the Greens’ policy but that they would “never rule out a measure if evidence showed it would save lives”. Bristol North West MP Mr Jones received hundreds of replies to his post, with the vast majority criticising him. Several called it an “embarrassment” while one accused him of “playing dog-whistle politics”. In a follow-up post on Wednesday morning, Mr Jones said he supported the current CAZ but was opposed to an expansion. The storm was sparked following comments by Cllr Mack (Green, Lockleaze) during a local elections debate on BBC Radio Bristol on Tuesday morning. She said the CAZ was introduced because 300 people a year were dying from polluted air in the city and that more data and time was needed to assess the zone’s impact on air quality before its future could be determined. She said: “I’m not ruling out expanding it or not expanding it – neither is on the cards right now. “It’s not in our manifesto, it’s not something we’re immediately planning to do.” Cllr Andrew Brown (Lib Dem, Hengrove & Whitchurch Park) agreed that extending the zone could not be ruled out.But cabinet member for housing services and energy Cllr Kye Dudd (Labour, Southmead) said that once levels of nitrogen dioxide had fallen to within legal limits, the CAZ had “done its job” and his party had no plans to expand it. Tory group leader Cllr Mark Weston agreed the scheme should be scrapped when Bristol’s air was legally compliant because it was costing families money…

Last year, Mr Rees tried to be selected as Labour’s parliamentary candidate for the new Bristol North East seat, but lost out to another candidate. This year, he was awarded an OBE for services to local government. In his farewell speech in March, Mr Rees said: “14,500 homes will have been built since 2016 including many affordable and social. More houses and more affordable houses will be built in the city this year than in any year since 2004, when a Labour government was supporting cities to build. We have the biggest council house building programme in a generation. “We are a city of contradictions. Among them is the way we combine being home to some of the nation’s leading talent, a thriving creative sector and a high number of business start ups — with a collective lack of self-belief that, when it’s full blown, turns into a debilitating cynicism. “We’ve seen this clearly around mass transit. When I came in, the political debate was dominated by car parking and fun Sundays. Today, the city talks about inclusion, homes and growth, billion pound regeneration programmes, carbon reduction and the climate challenge, biodiversity, race and class, and building a future city. “And from giving a Ted Talk at the global conference in Vancouver, to launching 3Ci, and speaking on behalf of the global Mayors Migration Council at several UN conferences on migration and refugees, we are shaping national and international agendas.” Technically the mayor’s term is expected to end on Tuesday, May 7, when newly-elected councillors are sworn in, according to council sources. But he is thought to have already cleared his office in City Hall and left the building earlier this week. Mr Rees declined to be interviewed for this article, due to existing diary commitments.

The annual number of people booked into temporary accommodation has also doubled over the same period. Figures released after a Freedom of Information request to Bristol City Council show that in April 2017, there were 8,266 households on the housing register in Bristol. This has risen steadily over the past few years, and now stands at 21,411 according to the latest figures. During 2016–17, there were 1,314 households booked into temporary accommodation throughout the whole year. ‘Households’ include families, couples and single people. The latest figures show that during 2022–23, there were 3,657 booked into temporary accommodation throughout the year. The rising number of people desperate for somewhere to live in Bristol raises questions about how the housing crisis has become more severe. Housing is playing a key role in upcoming local elections, and will be on the minds of many voters when they cast their ballot on Thursday, May 2.

This major UK city could trial free public transport Glaswegians aged 22 to 59 could be getting bus and subway travel on the house Glaswegians — we don’t want to get your hopes up, but your city could be on its way towards offering totally free public transport. Glasgow City Council has officially been given support to develop a pilot that will give locals access to buses and the subway on the house. It hopes that providing free transport would help reduce inequality in the city and be a step towards achieving net zero carbon emissions. A pilot would see 1,000 people between the ages of 22 to 59 given free access to public transport for nine weeks straight. People outside of that age range already have free bus travel in the city. The scheme would work by providing each participant with preloaded travel cards, allowing them to access all modes of transport within zones 1 and 2 of the city. Obviously, the pilot won’t come cheap. It’s expected to cost around £250,000, and while funds have been allocated to support the development of the trial, no money has been allocated for its actual delivery yet. Once more funding is secured and the pilot goes ahead, data and responses from participants would be used to ‘feed into wider decision-making on the future of public transport within Glasgow’. If it was to be rolled out, a study revealed that offering every Glaswegian age 22 to 59 free public transport over nine weeks would cost around £95.7 million. And that’s not including extra back office and admin costs. Everything is still in its early stages, but watch this space! Transport in one of the UK’s biggest cities could soon get a radical overhaul…

The council currently owns a number of commercial investments, including offices at Aztec West 600 near junction 16 of the M5, which are currently occupied by Elbit Systems UK. Councillors approved a motion at the full council meeting in Bridgwater on Tuesday afternoon (April 23), agreeing to sell the property as soon as possible and to pursue all legal avenues to evict the company, describing it as “a major UK-based provider of weapons to the Israeli Defence Forces”. The company subsequently contacted the council to state that none of the military weapons or equipment it produced was being used to supply Israel in the ongoing Gaza conflict. The council has now withdrawn its statement and apologised to the company – but said it still intended to sell off the premises as soon as possible. In a statement published on Friday afternoon (April 26), a spokesman said: “On April 23, 2024, Somerset Council voted on a motion in respect of a commercial investment property it owns at 600 Aztec West. =”That motion included a statement that ‘the tenant Elbit UK [is] a major UK based provider of weapons to the Israeli Defence Forces, used in the current Gaza catastrophe’. Elbit Systems UK Ltd. has contacted us to say this is factually incorrect and they do not supply weapons or military equipment to the Israeli Defence Forces or the Israeli Ministry of Defence. “The council would like to apologise and withdraw the statement that Elbit Systems UK Ltd. supplies military equipment to the Israeli Defence Forces or the Israeli Ministry of Defence.” The council subsequently clarified that this decision does not reverse the other parts of the approved motion, and that it would continue to pursue the sale of the building.

According to Amiram Barkat of Israeli business publication Globes, “The company (Genie) believes that its shale oil cracking technology can free the world from dependence on Arab oil and turn Israel into an energy powerhouse able to produce 300 billion barrels of non-conventional oil at a cost of up to $40 per barrel.” Claude Pupkin, CEO of Genie Oil and Gas, commented, “Genie’s success will ultimately depend, in part, on access to the expertise of the oil and gas industry and to the financial markets. Lord Rothschild and Rupert Murdoch are extremely well regarded by and connected to leaders in these sectors. Their guidance and participation will prove invaluable.” (Not to mention political connections. For instance, Murdoch’s close relationship with PM Tony Blair and their secret meetings to discuss national policies became an issue in Britain.) The messages Adil shared on his WhatsApp stories in October and November last year show a Hamas fighter wearing a Hamas headband, prosecutor Bridget Fitzpatrick told Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Thursday morning.

The image posted on October 31 had writing on it saying: “Today is the time for the Palestinian people to rise, set their paths straight and establish an independent Palestinian state.” It was said to be a quote from the leader of Hamas’s military wing, Mohammed Deif. The image on November 4 had another message on it, saying: “We will hold accountable all those who occupied our lands and Allah will hold accountable all those who remained silent against this occupation and oppression.” The second quote was said to be from Abu Ubaida, a spokesman for the Al-Qassam brigade – whi is Hamas’s military wing. Two of Adil’s colleagues reported to their superior officers that they had viewed images posted by Adil on his WhatsApp stories which caused them “concern”, the prosecution said. Adil had 1,092 contacts on his WhatsApp at the time who would have been able to access the images for 24 hours, Ms Fitzpatrick said. Adil was arrested on November 6 and had his mobile seized. He answered no comment to all questions during his interview…

LBC bosses have now announced that Vanessa Feltz will join the company in a schedule shake-up following her departure, in a statement shared on Wednesday (1 May). Feltz will not be replacing Myska, as she will join the channel’s weekend programming instead. It comes after significant social media speculation following a period where Myska did not appear during her regular live slot. The last time the host was on the show was on 14 April, with Conservative parliamentary candidate and commentator Ali Miraj replacing her ever since. However, Global made no reference to the petition or Myska’s absence, insisting that the changes were part of a “refreshed weekend schedule”. LBC said: “As part of the changes, Sangita Myska is leaving the station at the end of her contract, after nearly two years with the station.” The station’s senior managing editor Tom Cheal added: “We’d like to thank Sangita for her fantastic contribution to LBC and wish her every success in the future.” Nearly 25,000 people have signed a petition asking LBC to reinstate Myska, with listeners speculating on social media that the absence was linked to an interview she conducted with Israeli government spokesperson, Avi Hyman, over its military action in Gaza.

Black market nukes: 1993 Cook Report lost for 30 years – The Cook Report July 1993 programme lost for thirty years – In his characteristic journalistic sting Roger Cook is offered Soviet nuclear bombs and weapons grade plutonium  on the black market. If Roger can get black market nukes, why not ANY state? In this long-lost episode Roger is offered Soviet weapons grade plutonium and SS-20 mobile 1 megaton nuclear missile systems with a range of 3000 miles! – For some months in the early 1990s, there had been occasional newspaper reports, mainly tucked away in the foreign pages, of nuclear material being smuggled out of the former Soviet Union for sale illegally to anyone with the money. But no journalist had yet sought to demonstrate how easily such material might be acquired. Could The Cook Report do so? By 1993, The World Trade Center in New York had been attacked – for the first time – by what later turned out to be al-Qaeda extremists. Was it only a matter of time before some fanatical organisation upped the ante and got hold of enough plutonium to make a small bomb to be detonated in another Western city? The Cook Report created an elaborate cover story and through an undercover contact in Moscow, the programme was eventually introduced to two prominent Russian members of the Solntsevskaya Bratva – the Russian Mafia – who could supply weapons-grade Plutonium. The plan was that Roger Cook would pose as the representative of a reactionary Middle Eastern regime eager to join the nuclear club and keen to buy enough plutonium 239 to make several small nuclear bombs Back in Britain, the programme hired an eminent consultant nuclear engineer who built us a highly accurate replica nuclear device in a briefcase from information freely available on the internet. There were several options, but the programme opted to replicate a relatively simple bomb that would operate in one of two modes – in that even if it failed to produce a nuclear explosion, it would still act as a very effective Radiological Dispersal Device – an RDD. These evil devices later became known as ‘dirty bombs’, so called because triggering them would disperse countless millions of highly radioactive particles over the target area and could render that area uninhabitable for centuries. In a seedy back-street maisonette in Moscow, Cook’s Mafiosi targets negotiated to sell him 25 kilogrammes of Plutonium 239 for $200 million and offered a sample from a stash kept under the stairs next to their vacuum cleaner. The situation was as bizarre as it was dangerous and the sample later tested out as the real thing. Also on offer was a ready-made bomb in the form of an SS-20 nuclear warhead. Naturally, that was as far as the programme took the transaction, but the vendors were reported to the Russian security services, the FSB, later that day. They were promptly arrested and the illegal nuclear material was recovered. So, it was relatively easy to build a dirty bomb – and as the Cook Report would prove, relatively easy to acquire the nuclear material needed to do so. And if mere journalists could do this, surely a terrorist could too.

Tensions flared at UVA’s campus in Charlottesville, where protests had been largely peaceful until Saturday morning, when police officers in riot gear were seen in a video moving on an encampment on the campus’s lawn, cuffing some demonstrators with zip ties and using what appeared to be chemical spray. Students across the US have rallied or set up tents at dozens of universities to protest the months-long war in Gaza and call on President Joe Biden, who has supported Israel, to do more to stop the bloodshed in Gaza. They also demand their schools divest from companies that support Israel’s government, such as the arms suppliers. The UVA said in a statement that protesters had violated several university policies, including setting up tents on Friday night and using amplified sound. UVA President Jim Ryan wrote in a message that officials had learned that “individuals unaffiliated with the university” who presented “some safety concerns” had joined the protesters on the campus.

He said that even though he is not perfect and will make mistakes, he has committed to this path and already feels “blessed, relieved, nourished, held”.
