Jewish lawmaker Grant Shapps to serve as Britain’s defence secretary British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak taps Grant Shapps to be the first Jewish defence secretary in nearly three decades. Wallace announced last month that he would resign from the senior Cabinet role at the next reshuffle, bringing an end to his four years in the job. Shapps is the first Jewish defense secretary for nearly three decades after Malcolm Rifkind, a Scottish MP whose family emigrated from Lithuania in the 1890s and who served in the role from 1992 to 1995. He said he was “honored” to become defense secretary as he praised Wallace’s time in the role. “I’d like to pay tribute to the enormous contribution Ben Wallace has made to UK defense & global security over the last four years,” wrote Shapps in a post on X, formerly known as Twitter. “As I get to work at Defense HQ I am looking forward to working with the brave men and women of our Armed Forces who defend our nation’s security. And continuing the UK’s support for Ukraine in their fight against Putin’s barbaric invasion,” he added. Shapps, a former BBYO president, told The Jewish Chronicle in a 2010 interview that he was “totally Jewish”. “I don’t eat pork, we only buy kosher meat and we don’t mix meat and milk. I like being Jewish and I married a Jewish girl. It’s like a way of life and it’s good to be able to instill some of that sense of being in your kids,” he said at the time.

Increasing Evidence that the US Air Force’s Nuclear Mission May Be Returning to UK Soil Significant modernization is underway at RAF Lakenheath for F-35A aircraft, a planned “surety dormitory,” and other infrastructure indicating that the nuclear weapons mission may be returning after a hiatus of 15 years. New U.S. Air Force budgetary documents strongly imply that the United States Air Force is in the process of re-establishing its nuclear weapons mission on UK soil. The Air Force’s FY 2024 budgetary justification package, dated March 2023, notes the planned construction of a “surety dormitory” at RAF Lakenheath, approximately 100 kilometers northeast of London. The “surety dormitory” was also briefly mentioned in the Department of Defense’s testimony to Congress in March 2023, but with no accompanying explanation. “Surety” is a term commonly used within the Department of Defense and Department of Energy to refer to the capability to keep nuclear weapons safe, secure, and under positive control. The justification documents note the new requirement to “Construct a 144-bed dormitory to house the increase in enlisted personnel as the result of the potential Surety Mission” [emphasis added]. To justify the new construction, the documents note, “With the influx of airmen due to the arrival of the potential Surety mission and the bed down of the two F-35 squadrons there is a significant deficiency in the amount of unaccompanied housing available for E4s and below at Royal Air Force Lakenheath” [emphasis added].

Bristol Zoo new planning application stitch up LINK**. West of England Combined Authority chief executive payoff Bristol zoo campaigners ‘determined’ to fight homes plan – Bristol Zoological Society said Campaigners say they are determined to keep fighting plans for 196 new homes on Bristol’s zoo site. The homes are set to be built next year at the former Bristol Zoo Gardens site, after the zoo moved moved its site to the Bristol Wild Place Project. The plans have been met with opposition, but will go ahead after the government decided not to intervene. Bristol Zoological Society said the scheme would protect trees and bring much-needed housing for the city. Campaigners from Save Bristol Zoo Gardens had hoped the proposal would be “called in” by the Secretary of State. ‘Dreadful proposal’ – A spokesperson from the campaign group says the move was a “disappointing, but not unexpected decision.” Campaigners say has been “massive opposition” against the scheme, and a petition launched in 2022 received over 10,000 signatures. In a statement, a spokesperson from the charity said: “We would have welcomed a call-in by the Secretary of State, as that would have opened the way for the Zoo’s dreadful proposal to destroy the garden site to have been looked at again at a Public Inquiry.” Save Bristol Zoo Gardens say the decision does not alter their opposition to the zoo’s plans or their “determination to make sure they do not go ahead.”

However, not all of the audio was heard in the 2017 documentary. Diana says of Charles’s alleged comments about Prince Harry’s birth: ‘My husband won’t even talk to mummy, barely. Because at Harry’s christening Charles went up to mummy and said: “We’re so disappointed, thought it would be a girl” and mummy snapped his head off and said you should realise how lucky you are to have a child that’s normal.” ‘Ever since that day, the shutters have come down. That’s what he does when he gets somebody answering back at him.’

Indigenous leaders and activists in Brazil are calling for nationwide protests because of threats to their way of life. Supreme Court judges are about to make a ruling that may limit their rights to ancestral lands. Politicians are debating legislation to allow logging and farming in protected territories. Al Jazeera’s Monica Yanakiew reports from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Hundreds of indigenous people marched and rallied outside Brazil’s Supreme Court to see the restart of the discussion on the demarcation of indigenous lands. The proposed law would impose a cut-off date for ancestral land claims in 1988, the year Brazil’s current Constitution was enacted. Any Indigenous community that did not occupy their lands by that date would not be allowed to make a claim, according to the proposed legislation. Indigenous activists reject the bill, arguing that many indigenous peoples were historically expelled from their ancestral territories, especially during the military dictatorship.

The 2030 roadmap for UK-Israel bilateral relations, that was formally signed off on the 21 March 2023, included a reference to the UK-Israel Tech Hub that was established in 2011. The roadmap boasted that the Hub had ?facilitated over 250 partnerships.? One of those partnerships is with the Israeli tech company Cellebrite, which sells its technology to the British Security Services and British police. It’s a curious arrangement, because it seems Cellebrite may be able to access the information that the British Security Services and the British police obtain, with Cellebrite?s products.

US, Israel to Conduct Joint Drills Simulating Attacks on Iran The US and Israel will simulate striking Iranian nuclear facilities as part of a series of joint military exercises that will be held in the coming months, The Times of Israel reported Wednesday, citing Israeli TV. Back in January, the US and Israel conducted the Juniper Oak exercises, which were the largest-ever joint drills between the two nations. The Israeli military said Juniper Oak was just the first of a series of drills that the US and Israel will hold this year. Israel’s Channel 12 reported one of the upcoming drills would simulate Israel facing a multi-front missile attack that will involve the US deployment of Patriot missile systems. Another drill will rehearse a joint US-Israeli attack on Iranian nuclear facilities. The plan to simulate attacks on Iran has not been publicly confirmed by the US or Israel, but the two nations have previously rehearsed bombing Iran, including during drills that were held over the Mediterranean Sea in November 2022. While nuclear facilities would be the target in the simulated drills, there’s no sign Iran is looking to build a nuclear weapon, which was affirmed by a recent US intelligence report. Often missing from the conversation about Iran’s civilian nuclear program is the fact that Israel has a secret nuclear weapons program and an arsenal of nukes that the US does not acknowledge exists.

IBM and The Holocaust.Author of IBM Holocaust book says corporations are again aiding in potential genocide Amid reports that Brad Pitt aims to film bestseller on computer giant’s aid to the Nazis, author Edwin Black warns of similar processes unfolding today with Iran’s nuclear drive Investigative journalist and author Edwin Black was Wednesday referring all inquiries about reports that Brad Pitt plans to make a movie of his 2001 bestseller “IBM and the Holocaust” to his agents at William Morris. But in a telephone interview with The Times of Israel, Black said his meticulously documented tale of the computer giant’s key role in enabling the Holocaust holds vital lessons for today about the dangers of corporate complicity in genocide. Specifically, as the Iranian regime speeds toward a nuclear bomb, Black said, corporations complicit with Tehran included Nokia Siemens, “which provided the cellphone tracking codes to the Iranian regime” as it suppressed the Green Revolution in 2009, as well as “the multi-national banks financing the acquisition of nuclear equipment, and the manufacturers providing the technology to produce a nuclear bomb.” Pitt has reportedly held the film option for the “IBM and the Holocaust” for some years, and it was in development at HBO. Now, though, it is said to be back with Pitt, for possible development as a feature film. Black said all of his projects would make good movies because of his insistence on factual integrity. “IBM and the Holocaust,” he said, exposed what had been “the overlooked saga of how an American corporation became a central player in the Holocaust in all six phases.” He listed these as “the identification of the Jews; their exclusion from society; the confiscation of their assets; their ghettoization; their deportation; and even many parts of the extermination of the Jews.”

Ken Livingstone – rich taxed 95 % by Tories in the 1950s. Labour leader, Ken Livingstone, and his transport chair Dave Wetzel’s ‘Fares Fair’ initiative helped them win the 1981 GLC election. They got straight to it, cutting all bus and underground fares by a third, using a small increase in the ‘rates’ tax of every householder in London to pay for it. Ken’s 1981 Fares Fair was a public policy advocated by the Labour Party administration of the Greater London Council (GLC), then led by Ken Livingstone. The policy of low public transport fares was implemented in 1981, but was later ruled to be illegal in the courts and rescinded the following year. The Fares Fair policy had widespread support among Labour London members, who viewed it as a moderate and mainstream policy; no one had ever considered the legality of the move. In the 1981 GLC election, the political moderate Andrew McIntosh led Labour to victory, but the following day he was voted out by the Labour members of the GLC and replaced by Livingstone. Proceeding with the Fares Fair policy which they had promised in their electoral manifesto, they reduced London Transport fares by 32 per cent in October 1981. The legality of the Fares Fair policy was subsequently challenged by Dennis Barkway, Conservative leader of the Bromley London Borough Council. Taking the GLC to court, Barkway argued that the citizens of the London Borough of Bromley were having to pay extra taxes for the London Underground, which did not serve the borough.

Colonialism. ‘Obama’s man in Africa’ under house arrest as popular coup rocks Gabon – Before his removal in a military coup, Gabon’s hopelessly corrupt President Ali Bongo was courted by Obama and feted from Washington to Davos. The US war on Libya which destabilized the region may not have succeeded without him. When a military junta arrested President Ali Bongo Ondimba on August 30, Gabon became the ninth African nation to depose its government through a military coup. As citizens of Niger, Burkina Faso and Mali did before them, crowds of Gabonese poured into the streets to celebrate the removal of a Western-backed leader whose family flaunted its lavish lifestyle while more than a third of the country’s population languished in destitution. “Irresponsible and unpredictable governance has led to a steady deterioration in social cohesion, threatening to drive the country into chaos,” a leader of Gabon’s junta, Col. Ulrich Manfoumbi, declared upon seizing power. President Bongo’s arrest was met with indignant condemnations from Washington and Paris, which had propped him up as he pillaged his country’s vast oil wealth. His ouster represented a particularly sharp rebuke of former President Barack Obama, who groomed the Gabonese autocrat as one of his closest allies on the continent, and leaned on him for diplomatic support as he waged a war on Libya that unleashed terror and instability across the region. So close was the bond between Obama and Bongo that Foreign Policy branded the Gabonese leader, “Obama’s Man in Africa.” With Obama’s help, Bongo attempted to fashion himself as a reformist modernizer. He traveled repeatedly to Davos, Switzerland to attend the World Economic Forum, where was appointed an “Agenda Contributor.” There, he pledged to accelerate the Fouth Industrial Revolution in Africa by implementing lucrative digital identification and payment systems among his country’s heavily impoverished population. Bongo’s bio on the WEF website lists him as a “spokesperson for Africa on biodiversity” and “composer of musical pieces” whose interests include “history, football, classical music, jazz and bossa nova.” The self-styled renaissance man managed to hit it off with Obama, kibitz with Klaus Schwab, and press the flesh with Bill Gates. But at home, he found few friends among the struggling Gabonese masses.

Tucker Carlson interviews Victor Orban about Putin – Hungary’s Orbán urges US to ‘call back Trump’ to end Ukraine war in Tucker Carlson interview — Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán said in a sprawling interview with former Fox News host Tucker Carlson that the only path to ending the war in Ukraine would be the reelection of Donald Trump to the U.S. presidency. In the interview, posted Wednesday on Carlson’s page on X, formerly known as Twitter, the nationalist Orbán praised Trump’s foreign policy while blasting President Joe Biden’s administration and its approach to the war. Although Trump faces criminal charges for allegedly trying to overturn the 2020 election, returning the former president to office would be “the only way out” of the conflict, Orbán argued, calling any suggestion that Ukraine could defeat Russia “a lie.” “The Russians are far stronger, far more numerous than the Ukrainians,” Hungary’s prime minister said. “Call back Trump. … Trump is the man who can save the Western world.”

Dr Chris Busby on Fukushima dumping of Tritium in sea.  Japan’s Tepco Release 1.3 Million Tons of Radioactive Water Containing Tritium Into The Pacific Ocean – Inadequacy Of Global IAEA Risk Model Which Ignores Health Effects – Future of Nuclear Power in the Age of Climate Change.  Is the Release of Radioactive Contaminated Water From the Fukushima Nuclear Site to the Sea Acceptable? Is It Safe? The Japanese government, having apparently run out of storage space for the million tons of radioactively contaminated water have decided to pour it into the sea. This upsets a lot of people, including the governments of China and Korea, who understandably (on a moral level, perhaps) regard this decision as unacceptable. The Japanese (also the entire nuclear industry, plus the International Atomic Energy Agency, and a long list of self-identified experts) collectively say: no problems, the quantities are very small and pose no risk to health, neither to people nor marine life. The water has apparently been treated to remove the radioisotopes that the regulators believe pose the greatest risk, Strontium-90, Caesium-137, and Carbon-14. But to take out the Tritium is too expensive, and so the radioactive water is largely contaminated with large amounts of Tritium Oxide, in the form of Tritiated water HTO. Tritium is the largest contaminant in terms of radioactivity, disintegrations per second, clicks on a counter, from the operation of all nuclear energy processes. The neutrons, which are central to nuclear energy, produce Tritium by various processes in reactors, and even outside reactors, where the nuclide, a radioactive form of Hydrogen, is formed by adding neutrons to cooling water and various other processes. Tritium is interesting stuff. Its radioactivity is extremely weak: it emits a very short-range beta electron and itself then changes into Helium-3. What? Yes, it is a form of hydrogen, but shoots off an electron and turns into Helium-3. But we are mostly made of hydrogen, you say. Just So.

Jews earn more than other groups in UK  – Jews as a whole – on every metric examined above – are not discriminated against. Jews are the most privileged minority group. They’re over-represented in all areas of British public life. With that privilege comes the power to make economic, political and cultural decisions. There’s lots of data on the status of Jews in society (with distinctions within and between groups). Let’s start with Norman Finkelstein: ‘British Jews are in the aggregate disproportionately wealthy, educated, and professionally successful.’ Next, is Finkelstein’s colleague/comrade Jamie Stern-Weiner. Here he is writing for Jewish Voice for Labour in 2019: ‘antisemitic attitudes … in British society do not appear to translate into socioeconomic discrimination.’

Finkelstein and Stern-Weiner are both Jewish, although their analysis would be correct even if they weren’t. It’s no more ‘antisemitic’ for Jewish people to report facts about prejudice and privilege than it is for me or anyone else. Racism isn’t about subjective feelings or one’s ‘standpoint’ conferred by social location. It’s about the material reality of violence and discrimination which is susceptible to empirical verification or falsification. Here’s some data on the alleged anti-Jewish epidemic: But the best evidence is in social science studies. This is up 52 percent on 2021’s figure, but far below the 1,322,850 at the peak of the migrant crisis in 2015. A quarter of all applications were made in Germany alone – their 243,835 total higher than anywhere else in the EU, and over three times more than the UK. France came second with 156,455, followed by Spain (117,945), Austria (108,755) and Italy (84,290).

Egyptian arrested in London for Mediterranean boat migrants – UK Authorities Arrest Alleged Mastermind Behind Major Mediterranean Migrant Smuggling Operations – The United Kingdom’s National Crime Agency (NCA) has announced the arrest of an Egyptian man believed to be a key player in orchestrating the illegal smuggling of thousands of migrants across the Mediterranean Sea from North Africa to Italy. The 40-year-old suspect, who was arrested in London, is thought to have liaised with human smuggling networks in North Africa to arrange boats for migrants, and then kept in touch with his criminal associates throughout the crossing. Organizing Death-Defying Crossings from the UK – The NCA believes that the suspect had been operating his extensive smuggling network from the UK. He is thought to have played a major role in the dangerous crossings that have taken place in the past year. “We suspect this man has been running his operation from the UK, and masterminding the smuggling of thousands of migrants,” stated Darren Barr, Senior Investigating Officer at the NCA. The agency further highlighted the grave risks involved in these crossings, describing the vessels used by organized crime groups as death traps. They reaffirmed their commitment to working closely with international partners in sharing intelligence and taking necessary actions to prevent such crossings and apprehend those involved in human smuggling both domestically and abroad. Notable Crossings and Joint International Efforts – The arrest follows a series of major crossings, which the NCA cited as part of the broader investigation that was conducted in cooperation with the Italian Guardia di Finanza. One of the notable crossings took place in October of last year, where Italian authorities rescued over 640 migrants who had attempted to make the crossing in a wooden boat from Libya. In another incident in December, 265 migrants were rescued by the Italian coastguard after they were found adrift in a 20-meter fishing boat in the Mediterranean, having left Libya. Furthermore, in April, the coastguard undertook two search and rescue operations following distress calls, finding more than 600 migrants on each boat. This operation highlights the importance of international collaboration in tackling human smuggling networks which often operate across borders.

Many of the migrants reportedly had their legs severed and fingers shot off as their bodies were strewn across the trail. The allegations, described as ‘unfounded’ by a Saudi government source, point to a significant escalation of abuses along the perilous ‘Eastern Route’ from the Horn of Africa to Saudi Arabia, where hundreds of thousands of Ethiopians live and work. The kingdom has previously rejected allegations of systemic killings. ‘Saudi officials are killing hundreds of migrants and asylum seekers in this remote border area out of view of the rest of the world,’ HRW researcher Nadia Hardman said in a statement. Ms Hardman continued: ‘Spending billions buying up professional golf, football clubs, and major entertainment events to improve the Saudi image should not deflect attention from these horrendous crimes.’

London’s revolt against the Ulez scam is set to shatter politics as we know it When I wrote in April that Sadiq Khan could be ousted because of his persecution of motorists, my suggestion was widely panned as delusional. Didn’t I realise that nobody owns a car in our capital city, that London is a Labour rotten borough and that the Tories are finished? My argument doesn’t look so silly today. The mayor’s nasty, vindictive Ulez cash grab has triggered a wave of French-style civil disobedience, radicalised an outer suburbia that the snooty inner London elite had long forgotten even existed, lost Labour a parliamentary seat it could otherwise have won, and exposed the exorbitant cost to our pocketbooks and freedom of the rush to net zero. It turns out that there are, in fact, almost 9 million Londoners, and the vast majority don’t live in Islington or Hackney, don’t commute by bike and don’t work in a Left-wing think tank. Some 69 per cent of households in outer London have access to or own a car or van, and even in inner London some 42 per cent do so. It was thus a terrible mistake for Khan, an incompetent mayor obsessed with virtue-signalling, to declare all-out war on motorists – via Ulez, Low Traffic Neighbourhoods (LTNs), road-narrowing and the excessive expansion of 20mph zones – while mismanaging London Underground, presiding over a decline in buses, acting as a demagogue over Covid, squandering money on propaganda, jacking up taxes and failing to grip the calamity that is the Met Police. The good news is that there is now a clear alternative to Khan’s arrogance. The Tories have selected their mayoral candidate, and despite the party establishment’s best efforts at imposing a technocratic, Remainer type, ended up choosing Susan Hall, a true-blue activist who is committed to scrapping the Ulez extension and is a standard bearer for modern suburban values. She proposes a genuine alternative vision for London, a rupture with the dominant Left-wing urbanism, and would be the first mayor that hails from outer, rather than inner, London. She campaigned with no money and no infrastructure, making her own way to endless hustings, unlike her well-funded rivals, and yet triumphed with the grassroots. For a while, in an act of unfathomable stupidity laced with snobbery and ageism, the central party appeared ambivalent about her victory, but it has now rowed in behind her….

A USA TODAY Network investigation reveals that hundreds of lab mistakes, safety violations and near-miss incidents have occurred in biological laboratories coast to coast in recent years, putting scientists, their colleagues and sometimes even the public at risk. Oversight of biological research labs is fragmented, often secretive and largely self-policing, the investigation found. And even when research facilities commit the most egregious safety or security breaches — as more than 100 labs have — federal regulators keep their names secret. Of particular concern are mishaps occurring at institutions working with the world’s most dangerous pathogens in biosafety level 3 and 4 labs — the two highest levels of containment that have proliferated since the 9/11 terror attacks in 2001. Yet there is no publicly available list of these labs, and the scope of their research and safety records are largely unknown to most state health departments charged with responding to disease outbreaks. Even the federal government doesn’t know where they all are, the Government Accountability Office has warned for years. A team of reporters who work for the USA TODAY Network of Gannett newspapers and TV stations identified more than 200 of these high-containment lab facilities in all 50 states and the District of Columbia operated by government agencies, universities and private companies. As many as 18 labs in nine states received the samples, the CDC said Thursday. “What the CDC incidents showed us … is that the very best labs are not perfectly safe,” says Marc Lipsitch, a Harvard University professor of epidemiology. “If it can happen there, it certainly can happen anywhere.” Some people find little reassurance that nobody was sickened in the CDC accidents or in the historically low numbers of serious infections among lab workers generally, or that infections spreading into communities surrounding labs have been rarer still.

She wrote in her diary that it was to be built at 35ft tall on top of Craig an Lurachain so “it could be seen all down the valley”. On August 29 1862 Queen Victoria laid the first slab. One of the inscriptions chosen by Victoria for the cairn stirred some controversy among the Free Church community as it was chosen from her prayer book and not the Bible. It read: “He, being made perfect in a short time, fulfilled a long time. For his soul pleased the Lord; therefore hasted He to take him away from among the wicked.” Dr Candlish described the inscription from the Wisdom of Solomon as an “offence to the Bible which Scotland loves”. But other leapt to the broken-hearted queen’s defence calling Candlish “over-zealous” and “fiery-tempered”. The queen found much sympathy locally, and her personal inscription was a poignant tribute to the man she adored on the estate she loved. It read: “To the beloved memory of Albert the great and good Prince Consort. Erected by his broken hearted widow Victoria R. 21st August 1862.”

The diploma was issued at a royal assembly, and was witnessed by a number of bishops, ealdormen, abbots, and thegns – in other words by the great and good of the land.” Coinage offers another window into Aethelred’s reign and management of money is likely to have been on the agenda at royal assemblies. In a collaboration with the late Mark Blackburn, Keeper of Coins and Medals at the Fitzwilliam Museum, Keynes took a keen interest in the coinage of Æthelred’s reign. “Coinage was struck at as many as 80 minting places across England. It was produced in huge quantities for export as part of the tribute money paid to Viking armies and the army tax paid to a standing mercenary force,” he says. “Variations in coin designs over time suggest that Æthelred and those working with him developed and maintained a system of staggering complexity. To control the economy, the authorities recalled coins of one type from circulation and exchanged them for coins of a new type. The designs tell their own stories. The earliest types feature the hand of God issuing from a cloud, perhaps to signify divine approval. Later the emphasis shifted to the king’s portrait and he is shown initially bare-headed and later wearing a helmet.” The rarest of the coins struck in Æthelred’s time is a short-lived Agnus Dei (Lamb of God) type. Worldwide, just 24 survive, one of which is in the collection of the Fitzwilliam Museum and displayed in the Rothschild Gallery. What makes this coin so remarkable is the absence of king’s portrait: the obverse features the Lamb of God and the reverse a dove, symbol of the Holy Spirit. “The design represents a desperate appeal for peace, in perilous times,” says Keynes. In portraying Æthelred’s reign as a time of turmoil, historians have drawn on a sermon given by one of the king’s most powerful advisors. Archbishop Wulfstan’s message to the English people is full of gloom: “For it is clear and manifest in us all that we have previously transgressed more than we have amended, and therefore much is assailing this people. Things have not gone well now for a long time at home or abroad, but there have been devastation and famine, burning and bloodshed in every district again and again.” The forces ranged against Æthelred were impressive and implacable. In 994 a Viking fleet of more than 90 ships came up the Thames to London. In 1009 the Vikings came again. Almost ten centuries later, in the 1920s, a group of battle axes and spearheads, dating from around 1000, was found in the river close to old London Bridge. Vivid reminders of the raiders who sailed up the estuary to strike at the heart of England, they are on display at the Museum of London. The eight battle axes, with their fearsome curving edges, also pose a question: how could the king and his councillors overcome a threat of such a kind? In September 1666 the great fire of London destroyed St Paul’s cathedral, taking Æthelred’s tomb with it. Today Æthelred is remembered in the cathedral coffee shop where a stone commemorates all the tombs known to be lost. “It’s quite touching to see Æthelred’s name close to the place where he was buried in 1016 and where he lay for the next 650 years,” says Keynes. “It’s highly unlikely that he will never shake off the damage done to him by his soubriquet – but it’s well worth continuing to challenge the accepted versions of the history of a fascinating period.” Coins from Æthelred’s reign are displayed at the Fitzwilliam Museum in the Rothschild Gallery. Æthelred’s charter for Bishop Ealdred of Cornwall (994) is available for consultation at Exeter Cathedral on request.

Russian mercenary leader Yevgeny Prigozhin was on the passenger list of a jet which crashed in Russia killing all 10 people on board, Russia’s civil aviation authority says. Social media linked to the Wagner mercenary group say his private plane was shot down by Russian air defences. Prigozhin died “as a result of actions of traitors to Russia”, the Grey Zone Telegram channel posted. Prigozhin led an aborted mutiny against Russia’s armed forces in June. However, some experts in Russia and abroad suggest the revolt was staged, and Prigozhin abandoned his “justice march” on Moscow after direct orders from President Vladimir Putin. Wednesday’s crash in the Tver region, north-west of the capital Moscow, comes on the same day that senior Russian general Sergei Surovikin was reportedly sacked as air force chief. Gen Surovikin was known to have good relations with Prigozhin and had not been seen in public since the mutiny. Prigozhin’s aircraft – an Embraer-135 (EBM-135BJ) – was flying from Moscow to St Petersburg on Wednesday with seven passengers and three crew, Russia’s Rosaviatsia aviation authority said. Senior Wagner commander Dmitry Utkin – who founded the group in 2014 – was also on the passenger list, it said. The plane is reported to have come down near the village of Kuzhenkino, about half-way between Moscow and St Petersburg. One report said the body of Prigozhin, 62, had been found and identified – this has not been officially confirmed. All 10 bodies have been recovered, Russia’s state-run news agency Interfax said.

One aspect feeding this is that – according to locals – one in every five residents in Sokoto is from Niger or has connections with the country. Sokoto city’s sprawling suburb of Sabon-Gari Girafshi is predominantly inhabited by people from Niger. They fear that military intervention by Ecowas could greatly affect their family members and even jeopardise their own security here in Nigeria.

The much-anticipated Ukrainian counteroffensive was predicted to break through Russian echelon defenses swiftly, however, it turned into a stalemate. The operation was strategically planned and executed with misguided optimism, as Ukraine’s defense strategists underestimated the strength of the adversary. It was launched under the wishful thinking of the Ukrainian government assuming that Russian soldiers would desert their positions and run away from their trenches in the first waves of the counterattack. IF we are ever to make a better, fairer country we need to undermine NOT support the social hierarchy that concentrates wealth and power in the hands of a lazy, greedy elite??? All Starmer’s other sins fit in with the pattern of fawning acquiescence to the privileged class. I like you I voted for Starmer because I thought he was electable but now I know it was a mistake and I should have voted with my true feelings, instead we’ve got a Blair Mk2. A friend said that when people say they’ve waited 56 years for a world cup victory it’s sad but he’s been waiting for 77 years for another socialist government. Starmer is pandering to the Daily Mail, hoping if he doesn’t scare the horses they’ll support him. What he doesn’t realise is that if he cured cancer, bought world peace and solved the climate crisis he’d still be the devil’s spawn. I will not be renewing my membership and find myself without a political home. Rebecca Long Bailey would have walked that leadership election if Starmer had been honest about what he actually stood for, it’s a disgrace what he did, I can’t even remember a tory leadership candidate that acted in this way, I cannot stand them but at least they do what they set out to do for their members. If starmer can’t stand up for the working class he’s got to go or otherwise labour got no chance in next election ordinary people matter help the needy not the greedy

Jews are not discriminated against. 2. They are over-represented in Europe, North America and Latin America in positions of cultural, economic and political power. 3. They are therefore, in a position to discriminate against actually marginalised groups.” The statement went on to say that: Many were distressed by some of Miller’s statements in the past which seemed to exaggerate Israeli power but we believed they fell within the terrain of academic freedom. This recent tweet, focusing on Jews, is of a different order and has crossed a line. Miller was accused of ‘ignoring any historical, international or social context’ but if anyone was guilty of this it was JVL itself. Miller is one of a number of academics who have been targeted by Zionist organisations and supporters of the Apartheid State and been accused of anti-Semitism. Other academics include Rebecca Gould, also of Bristol University, Goldie Osurie of Warwick University and Shahd Abusalama of Sheffield Hallam University. Miller however, has always been the Zionists’ number one target. The groups who have engaged in these McCarthyist witchhunts are familiar names. They include the Community Security Trust (a Mossad project) , the Campaign Against Anti-Semitism (formed in August 2014 in the middle of Israel’s genocidal Operation Protective Edge, on the initiative of Israel’s Ministry of Strategic Affairs), Union of Jewish Students (funded by the Israeli Embassy) and the Board of Deputies. There were a number of problems with the JVL statement, not least its timing, coming as it did on the eve of Miller’s Employment Tribunal against Bristol University. Then, in 2011 he pressured her into meeting and raped her in her bedroom. [They asked me] had you been drinking?… Are you sure that you said no, and are you sure you didn’t consent? Alleged rape victim She felt she would be expelled from the party if she went to the police. She quit but a local organiser persuaded her to go to the party’s internal disputes committee.

Organised crime.  Authorities ‘left people to die’ despite warnings about Cape Verde migrant boat weeks before tragedy, rights group alleges Four national authorities and the European Union’s border patrol agency Frontex failed to make “sufficient” efforts to prevent the deaths of dozens of migrants off West Africa, despite being warned about the boat weeks before, a Spanish human rights NGO alleged Friday. At least 60 people are presumed dead after the boat was rescued off the coast of Cape Verde, the International Organization on Migration (IOM) told CNN on Thursday. Non-governmental organization Caminando Fronteras (Walking Borders) put the death toll at 92, adding it believed 130 people were on board the boat when it left Senegal. Family members of some of those on board had contacted Caminando Fronteras on July 20, saying that they were worried as their relatives had left Senegal for the Canary Islands 10 days earlier and not reached land, according to the organization’s founder and director, Helena Maleno Garzón.

He directed his officers to ask the survivors for the phone numbers of the men who sent them. By tapping those lines and tracing calls to other numbers, he built a phone tree of thousands of numbers whose branches stretch from Africa to Europe, the Middle East, Asia and into the US.In 18 months, he and his team recorded more than 30,000 calls. Those transcripts, some of which Ferrara made available to Newsweek, reveal the existence of several wholly new, multinational organised crime syndicates, together worth around $7bn (€6bn) a year. They also identify the Ethiopian man who is among the busiest and most sophisticated of the new people traffickers. “He is a merciless criminal that, for money, has created a business based on ‘human goods’,” says Ferrara. The Ethiopian’s network offers “a complete service to migrants, running from the centre of Africa to Libya to Italy to another country from there. It includes all accommodation, transport and food”. It is, says Ferrara, a criminal operation like no other. No name, no fixed base, a fluid membership and, most remarkably, “totally without risk”. “With drugs, if you lose the drugs, you lose your money,” says Ferrara. “But in this case, you pay in advance. Even if the migrants drown, Ermias has already been paid.” Ermias Ghermay’s clients describe him as about 40, short and stocky. In conversation, he seems uneducated but street-smart: dynamic, plausible and fluent in several languages, including Arabic and Tigrinya, the ancient tongue of northern Ethiopia and Eritrea. “Really smart,” says one Palermo police officer. “He has the capacity to organise an international criminal enterprise that is very complicated – lots of people, lots of contacts, spread everywhere, and moving money and people between them. He’s a professional.” Over the months Ferrara has been tapping Ghermay’s calls, the Ethiopian has given glimpses of his operation in asides and casual boasts. Ghermay, it transpires, has been working as a people smuggler for about a decade. Like many others, he bases himself on the Libyan coast, mostly in the capital, Tripoli or, in the port of Zuwarah to the west. Importantly for EU officials thinking of targeting traffickers’ ships, Ghermay regards the wooden fishing boats or inflatable rafts he buys as disposable; they generally either sink or are confiscated on landing in Sicily. What we know about alleged human trafficking kingpin Mered Medhanie, aka The General Extradited to Italy on Tuesday, Eritrean Mered Medhanie, 35, is believed to be at the heart of an operation to smuggle thousands of African migrants to Europe. Ermias is believed to have organised the Lampedusa trip, and when told the vessel capsised blamed the disaster on the migrants and described it as “Allah’s will” in a wiretap. Telephone intercepts obtained by Italy’s Republica paint a picture of Medhanie as a man kind and considerate when speaking of his wife and children in Sweden, but cynical and ruthless in his work. He allegedly described migrants as “numbers” or “business.” In one recording he reportedly laughed when describing overloading vessels with migrants, and boasts of smuggling more than 7,000 people to Europe. In another he considers where to hide his spoils, preferring the US or Canada: “there, they don’t ask where you got it from,” he claims.

Leading the Charge Toward a Cashless Future The UK is already one of Europe’s most cashless economies, with physical money accounting for just 17% of retail payments, compared to 56% in 2010. As in many countries, the move away from cash accelerated sharply during the first two years of the pandemic, largely due to the explosion in online purchases during the lockdowns and overblown fears about the health risks of using cash — fears first raised by the World Health Organization and then seized upon and massively magnified by the media, banks, payment processors, fintech firms and other cash assassins. Survey after survey has shown that the overwhelming majority of UK citizens do not want to live in a fully cashless economy. Only 12% want to live in a cashless society while 69% oppose it. In a similar survey by BusinessComaparison, 74% of respondents reported using cash over the previous month. The volume of notes in circulation has actually increased by around £11 billion since 2020, to the current total of just over £81 billion, though this is apparently more due to people “hoarding” cash (as the central banks call it) during the early months of the virus crisis than actually spending it. That said, cash remains the preferred choice of payment for millions of people and is the only choice for an estimated 6% of the population, with this figure increasing to 9% for those in vulnerable circumstances, according to UK Finance.

Imber village on Salisbury Plain requisitioned for the US Army in WW2 and never given back – open days – Imber Bus Day – ImberBus.com IMBERBUS On a cold winter’s evening back in 2009, over a few pints in a Bath pub, four transport professionals discussed where the most unlikely place would be to run a bus service. The answer was a place that the public were not normally allowed access to and so the idea of running a bus service to the village of Imber on Salisbury Plain was born. The village of Imber is no longer inhabited as the residents were evicted just before Christmas 1943 by the MoD, in order to step up army training in advance of D-Day. The villagers were promised that their village would be returned to them after the war but this was not to be and 66-years on it is still uninhabited, much of it having been damaged or destroyed. It remains in use for army training purposes but the connecting road is open to the public on a limited number of occasions each year and was previously only accessible to the public if they had their own transport. Following lengthy negotiations with the Ministry of Defence at a very senior level, the Bath Bus Company was permitted, with the cooperation of several other operators, Transport for London and Wiltshire Council’s Transport Department, to run a bus service 23A from Warminster to the village of Imber on 5th September 2009. Operated as an ordinary local bus service using 4 former London Transport Routemaster buses, the service proved to be very successful and so has now become an annual event, with services now extending beyond Imber to the villages of Market Lavington, Tilshead and Chitterne, plus other remote locations on Salisbury Plain, such as New Zealand Farm Camp and Brazen Bottom.

The mayor of the Arab city of Umm al-Fahm, Samir Mahameed, told Israeli Army Radio on Monday the finance minister was casting Arabs as thieves and criminals, which was “ridiculous” and “false.” “This is survival money, not a luxury,” said Mahameed, explaining that the funds were meant to assist in fighting soaring crime. “This is a struggle for our lives.”

Even more newsworthy is the fact that José Luis Cebrián, one of Spain’s most influential figures, not only in the media but also in politics and business, is sounding the alarm about the dire consequences of the Ukraine proxy war for the EU, as well as the fact that most European politicians don’t seem to care. 1966 – French president Charles DeGaulle decides to eject the US military from France and to remove his country from NATO. President Sarkosy rejoined NATO 43 years later in 2009 but the French military remains outside NATO’s nuclear command structure.
1972, Sat 25 November – Daily Express front page lead story is ‘Bormann Is Alive’. Hitler’s private secretary Martin Bormann appears to have been protected by the Allies since the end of WWII. Ladislas Farago, Hungarian author of ‘Aftermath’ has the pictures of Bormann in Buenos Aires and Stuart Steven is the Jewish journalist.
1980s – Operation Gladio: 1,100 Italians are murdered in cold blood by NATO terrorists in bomb attacks carried out by fascists working under NATO, P2 and CIA direction. Italy is bringing the communists into a coalition government and so prime minister Aldo Moro is kidnapped and assassinated. The object of NATO’s ‘Strategy of Tension’ is to keep communists out of power in Italy.
1981 – former CBS WWII journalist Paul Manning publishes ‘Martin Bormann Nazi In Exile’ which details Bormann’s activities in South America using laundered Nazi loot to create and foster 750 new companies, a ‘Financial Fourth Reich’.
1989 – fall of the Berlin wall and assassination of Deutsch Bank chairman Alfred Herrhausen who has been brokering big financial agreements between Germany and the former Soviet states.
1990, 9th February – US Secretary of State James Baker promises a concerned Russian President Gorbachev that NATO will move ‘Not one inch Eastward’.
1996 – John Ainsworth-Davis, aka. Christopher Creighton, publishes Op JB which details the British commando raid planned by Ian Fleming, which brought Bormann out of Berlin by canoe at the very end of WWII
2000 – President Putin takes power in Russia giving the impression that his country will be part of NATO dominated institutions such as the WEF and G8. Meanwhile he is building up Russia’s military technology and fighting ability on all fronts to take on and defeat the Unites States if necessary.
2013 – 4-5,000 British people protest the annual Bilderberg conference in Watford, UK.
2020 – Tony Gosling publishes The Traitors of Arnhem which details the origins of the Bilderberg conferences in the deliberate British Army failures in the notorious Operation Market Garden in September 1944. This gave the Nazis time to arrange their financial affairs to regroup as a Fourth Reich after the war. Nazi loot was exchanged for safe passage by the Allies after the war and the deal was brokered by Hitler’s private secretary, Martin Bormann and Winston Churchill’s equivalent, Desmond Morton in Downing Street.
2023 – a NATO drone kills the first Libyans with no human involvement, AI has targeted individuals and launched the drone and deadly missiles. The US Air Force applies to the UK CAA to fly its deadly drones out of USAF or RAF Fairford in Gloucestershire.

Daniele Ganser, Swiss author, on Operation Gladio – NATO false flag bombings blamed on communists. NATO’s Secret Armies: Operation Gladio and Terrorism in Western Europe Daniele Ganser (2004) This fascinating new study shows how the CIA and the British secret service, in collaboration with the military alliance NATO and European military secret services, set up a network of clandestine anti-communist armies in Western Europe after World War II. These secret soldiers were trained on remote islands in the Mediterranean and in unorthodox warfare centres in England and in the United States by the Green Berets and SAS Special Forces. The network was armed with explosives, machine guns and high-tech communication equipment hidden in underground bunkers and secret arms caches in forests and mountain meadows. In some countries the secret army linked up with right-wing terrorist who in a secret war engaged in political manipulation, harrassement of left wing parties, massacres, coup d’etats and torture. Codenamed ‘Gladio’ (‘the sword’), the Italian secret army was exposed in 1990 by Italian Prime Minister Giulio Andreotti to the Italian Senate, whereupon the press spoke of “The best kept, and most damaging, political-military secret since World War II” (Observer, 18. November 1990) and observed that “The story seems straight from the pages of a political thriller.” (The Times, November 19, 1990). Ever since, so-called ‘stay-behind’ armies of NATO have also been discovered in France, Spain, Portugal, Germany, Belgium, the Netherlands, Luxemburg, Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Finland, Switzerland, Austria, Greece and Turkey. They were internationally coordinated by the Pentagon and NATO and had their last known meeting in the NATO-linked Allied Clandestine Committee (ACC) in Brussels in October 1990.

Neil McEvoy: Lockdown case against Cardiff politician dismissed – Neil McEvoy was a Member of the Senedd until last May Former Member of the Senedd (MS) Neil McEvoy has had a charge of breaching lockdown restrictions dismissed in court. Mr McEvoy had been accused of distributing election leaflets in Cardiff on 15 February, which was forbidden under coronavirus legislation at the time. But the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) was accused of “appalling preparation” by the judge overseeing the hearing. Mr McEvoy had denied the allegation. District judge Stephen Harmes criticised the CPS for changing the details of the charge on the day of the trial. Prosecutors had amended the charge to relate to a different area of Cardiff. Mr McEvoy, who was elected as a member of Plaid Cymru in 2016 before being expelled and forming and leading a party called Propel, failed to be re-elected in May. The former South Wales Central MS, who remains a Cardiff councillor for Fairwater, described the conduct of the CPS as a “disgrace”. Dismissing the case, Mr Harmes also said the CPS failed to provide Mr McEvoy with substantial pieces of evidence in sufficient time to allow him to prepare his defence. Mr Harmes dismissed the evidence of the prosecution because witnesses were not present in court. Mr McEvoy, who was representing himself, also said he would like to have provided his own witness, but was not given the opportunity.

Guardian – Crime and Politics article.   Fernando Villavicencio assassination: suspects are Colombian, police say -One dead suspect and six others arrested in the assassination of Ecuadorean presidential candidate Fernando Villavicencio are Colombians, Ecuadorean police said on Thursday, and the government said it was pursuing the “intellectual authors” of the murder. The fatal shooting on Wednesday night, less than two weeks before the election, has sent shockwaves through the South American country, leading some rivals to suspend campaigning and bringing the issue of rising violence to the foreground. Villavicencio, a vocal critic of corruption and organized crime, was killed leaving an evening campaign event at an education facility in northern Quito. The deceased suspect died of injuries sustained in a shoot-out, the attorney general’s office said on Wednesday. Nine people, including a candidate for the legislature and two police officers, were injured, it added. The dead suspect had been arrested on weapons charges in July, the government said on Thursday, adding that the six detained men belong to organized crime groups. The police press office confirmed their nationalities later on Thursday afternoon. “The national police now have the first arrests of the alleged material authors of this abominable event and will employ all of their operative and investigative capacity to discover the motive of this crime and its intellectual authors,” Interior Minister Juan Zapata told journalists. The involvement of Colombian nationals in the murder is reminiscent of the 2021 killing of Haiti’s President Jovenel Moise, who was assassinated in his home by a group which included 26 Colombians and two Haitian-Americans. President Guillermo Lasso said the crime was clearly an attempt to sabotage the election, but that voting would go ahead as planned on Aug. 20, albeit amid a national state of emergency. Lasso, who declared three days of mourning, said on Thursday he has asked the U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation for help with the investigation and that a delegation would arrive in the country in the coming hours. The FBI confirmed it was assisting. Violence in Ecuador has surged in recent years, especially in cities along drug-trafficking routes like Guayaquil and Esmeraldas where citizens say they live in fear. Several Latin American countries have seen similar issues since the coronavirus pandemic. The armed forces were deploying all over the country and would remain deployed until the end of the electoral process, Defense Minister Luis Lara told journalists. “Citizens have the guarantee that the armed forces will provide the necessary security for the realization of the vote, the vote of Ecuadoreans will be the best response to the mafias and their allies,” he said. Villavicencio’s party Movimiento Construye on Thursday rejected what it said was “political use” of his death and called for a speedy investigation in a statement posted on X, the social media site previously known as Twitter. The party condemned an unverified video circulating on social media purportedly from a gang called Los Lobos, or The Wolves, claiming responsibility for Villavicencio’s killing, alleging he had received millions of dollars from them for his campaign and threatening fellow candidate Jan Topic. Neither the police nor the attorney general’s office responded to requests for comment about the authenticity or origin of the video, which features more than a dozen black-clad and masked men waving high-powered rifles. Movimiento Construye said: “Those who sit to negotiate with mafiosos, those who give them microphones, those who generate fear campaigns with trick videos in the name of criminal organizations and who take the name of Fernando Villavicencio in vain with lies are responsible for the crime.” Los Lobos have thousands of members, according to some reports, and are active in the country’s violent prison system. Former President Rafael Correa, who was heavily criticized in office by Villavicencio, then a journalist, re-posted the video overnight, but said in a post on Thursday morning that it was fake, without providing more information. Villavicencio had been sentenced to 18 months in prison for defamation over statements made against the former president, but he fled to Indigenous territory within Ecuador and later was given asylum in Peru, before returning after Correa left office. BALLOT BOX JUSTICE Candidate Luisa Gonzalez, who is running for Correa’s party and leading with 29.3% support, expressed horror at the killing, but did not suspend her campaign. Indigenous candidate Yaku Perez and law-and-order hopeful Topic both suspended their campaigns, while businessman Otto Sonnenholzner begged the government to take action. Perez said he hoped to hold a meeting with the other candidates and the Catholic Church to discuss a “national security agreement,” without providing further details. Villavicencio’s party said on Wednesday that discussions had been held about whether to suspend campaigning due to recent political violence, including the July murder of the mayor of Manta. Villavicencio opposed a suspension, it said, saying it would be an act of cowardice. The party can choose another candidate, the electoral court said, but ballots have already been printed and distributed and Villavicencio’s name and photo appear on them. The party said in a Thursday statement it would take time to mourn before making decisions about the vote and asked for international oversight on the investigation. “The only comfort left to us is to valiantly vote and see justice done at the ballot box,” it said. Villavicencio, who police said had three rings of security on Wednesday, had on Tuesday made a report to the attorney general’s office about an oil business, but no further details of his report were made public. There were 3,500 violent deaths in Ecuador in the first half of the year, according to police figures, with nearly half occurring in the largest city, Guayaquil. Lasso, who called the elections early amid an impeachment bid against him, has been criticized for failing to tamp down violence, despite using emergency powers to authorize soldiers to patrol the streets and use their weapons against criminals. His government blames bloodshed on the streets and in prisons on criminal infighting to control drug trafficking routes used by Mexican cartels, the Albanian mafia and others. Beyond security, employment and migration are major issues in the presidential contest. Villavicencio, a married father, had 7.5% support in polls, placing him fifth out of eight candidates. His body will be released to two people chosen by his wife, including his lawyer, the attorney general’s office said on Twitter.

Under Pakistani law, a convicted person cannot run for any public office for a period defined by the ECP, which could be up to a maximum of five years starting from the conviction date. “We knew this was inevitable,” Khan’s aide Zulfikar Bukhari said, adding the party would challenge the disqualification in the High Court. “We’re highly confident it will be reversed.” Khan, who has denied any wrongdoing, was sentenced to three years imprisonment on Saturday on charges of unlawfully selling state gifts he and his family acquired during his tenure from 2018 to 2022.

The Voice editor slams ‘Bristol’s turnip-munching racists’ – The editor of the UK’s only Black national newspaper has blamed “Bristol’s turnip-munching racists” for Marvin Rees not being selected by Labour members in Bristol North East. Lester Holloway was responding to Damien Egan being selected over Bristol’s mayor to be Labour’s candidate in the new constituency. Rees has twice won a citywide vote to be elected mayor but failed to convince Labour members that he should be their prospective parliamentary candidate. Writing in The Voice, Holloway said that that Bristol has “shafted its Black mayor (again)”, adding that Rees’ defeat “speaks volumes about a city with a history of racism denial”. “While Rees was re-elected in 2021, his period as city mayor was already scarred by constant criticism,” writes Holloway. “He was accused of vainglorious self-promotion and globe-trotting jollies when he flew abroad to try and drum up business for Bristol, even though other metro mayors do exactly the same thing… “Whether saving money or spending it, Rees was the bad guy. Whatever he did was the wrong decision in his critics eyes. And so the narrative of a ‘disaster mayor’ took hold. “He was criticised for investing more money in the previously popular Bristol Energy company when it lost money before it was split up and sold off, with some of the mayor’s fiercest critics the very people who were Bristol Energy’s strongest supporters when it was established.” Holloway said that “when costs for renovating the Bristol Beacon, formerly Coulson (sic) Hall, an arts and performance venue, escalated, Rees was blamed. And when he hit back at critics in city hall – in a much milder manner than Boris Johnson routinely did as London mayor – Rees was labelled a ‘bully’. If they didn’t catch him in the wash they got him in the rinse…

How UK university’s reports spread Western propaganda on Xinjiang – The series of Xinjiang reports produced by the Helena Kennedy Centre of Sheffield Hallam University, is one of the latest in shoddy research funded by the US government to fabricate false claims, China Daily investigates. The US media and government has perpetuated the accusation that forced labor exists in Xinjiang, and launched rounds of sanctions banning Xinjiang products. Some of the often-cited ‘evidence’ is a series of papers from Sheffield Hallam University’s ‘Forced Labor Lab’. However, a cursory reading of their reports shows a lack of evidence, demonstrating a lack of fundamental academic integrity from the institution and the authors. The three primary entities behind the reports are authors Laura Murphy and Nyrola Elima, and the Helena Kennedy Center, for whom the report was produced. Laura Murphy began her academic career researching the impact of African American slavery in North America. After 2019, Murphy had a sudden change of interest and became solely focused on writing about China and Xinjiang, completely ignoring her previous specialization. While topic changes are not uncommon for academics, this sudden change in 2019 coincides with a generous grant of over 60,000 USD from the ‘National Endowment for the Humanities Public Scholar Award’. At the same time, she began to retweet messages from far-right, ethno-nationalists, and religious fundamentalist groups, such as the World Uygur Congress, which is connected with the terrorist group ETIM. Then in the 2020-2021 period, she and her partner organizations received an additional combined funding of 3,000,000 USD from the US department of justice.

Thousands took part in a protest in the capital Niamey on Sunday, with some waving Russian flags and even attacking the French embassy. It now seems this “movement” is spreading across the country. The businessman, based 800km (500 miles) away in the central city of Zinder, didn’t want to give his name for safety reasons and asked that we blur his face. “I’m pro-Russian and I don’t like France,” he said. “Since childhood, I’ve been opposed to France. “They’ve exploited all the riches of my country such as uranium, petrol and gold. The poorest Nigeriens are unable to eat three times a day because of France.” The businessman said thousands had taken part in Monday’s protest in Zinder in support of the military takeover. He said he had asked a local tailor to take material in the Russian colours of white, blue and red and make an outfit for him, denying that it had been paid for by pro-Russian groups. Niger is home to 24.4 million people where two in every five live in extreme poverty, on less than $2.15 a day.

The calls came after prosecutors made public the full indictment against Trump in the Mar-a-Lago classified documents case. Trump has pleaded not guilty to charges accusing him of illegally keeping classified documents at his Florida home and refusing to turn them over to investigators. The superseding indictment unsealed on Thursday alleges that Trump sought to delete surveillance footage at the estate in an effort to obstruct the investigation. Meanwhile, a letter sent to Trump by special counsel Jack Smith earlier this month indicated he may soon be indicted on new federal charges related to efforts to overturn the 2020 election. He is already facing criminal charges in New York over alleged hush money payments made to women who have accused him of sexual encounters during his 2016 presidential campaign. He has pleaded not guilty to those charges. The former president has turned his legal problems into the main message of his White House bid, framing the charges as an effort by President Joe Biden to weaponize the Justice Department against his potential rival in 2024. The White House has said the president has had no involvement in the cases. Trump said leaders of other countries were at “the top of their game” during an attack on Biden. “We have somebody that’s not at the top of his game, never was at the top of a game,” he said. “We have a guy who’s a dumb son of a b****.” He added: “Every dollar spent attacking me by Republicans is a dollar given straight to the Biden campaign.” Vows To Investigate President Trump promised to appoint a special prosecutor to investigate Biden and his family if he wins a second term in the White House. “When we win the election a little more than a year from now, I will appoint a real special prosecutor to expose the monumental corruption of the Biden crime family once and for all,” Trump said to loud cheers. He also called on Republicans in Congress to halt the authorization of additional military support to Ukraine until the Biden administration cooperates with investigations into the president and his family’s business dealings. Threats to Primary House Republicans Trump criticized Republicans in Congress who have so far refused to go along with efforts to investigate and impeach Biden. “The biggest complaint that I get is that the Republicans find out this information and then they do nothing about it,” Trump said. The former president was impeached twice during his term in office. “Any Republican that doesn’t act on Democrat fraud should be immediately primaried and get out, out,” he added. “If they’re not willing to do it, we got a lot of good, tough Republicans around[…]and they’re going to get my endorsement every single time. And they’re going to win because we win almost every race.” Ron DeSantis Is ‘Gone’ Trump said Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis’ campaign for the GOP nomination was dead. “DeSanctus [sic] is gone. He’s just about over.” “I think if he ever made a comeback, it would be the greatest comeback in political history,” he said. RAF Fairford in Gloucestershire will be a base for the Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAV) providing the USAF can persuade the UK’s Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) to give them dedicated airspace in which to fly. The Americans are keeping tight-lipped about their precise plans, but documents submitted by the UK’s Ministry of Defence (MOD) to the CAA sheds light on their intentions. They say there is “an emerging requirement to operate regularly from RAF Fairford” and, given fears about their safety in a “complex and congested” airspace, “they will not have the required detect and avoid capability” to spot other aircraft – a concern raised by Britain’s air traffic service NATS who say that Fairford “sits in an area of intense aerial activity”. Chris Cole is the founder of Dronewars. He researches and monitors the use of military drones. He argues that practically and politically, their use in the UK needs careful consideration. “The US must not be used allowed to use drones from RAF Fairford. The underlying technology is far from mature, and drones crash an awful lot. “The Global Hawk drone, for example, we know publicly that’s crashed at least four times over the last year. And Reaper drones have crashed at least 80 times over the last decade. “Drones have been used outside of armed conflicts more and more to undertake so-called targeted killings and those killings are undermining global peace and security. “Drones are normalising warfare, making warfare much more likely.”

Membership records seen by Declassified show Starmer joined the Trilateral Commission at some point between March 2017 and October 2018. He left at some point between April 2021 and June 2022. Starmer was a member of the Trilateral Commission alongside two former heads of the CIA, and spoke at one of its London events alongside the former heads of MI5 and GCHQ. The current Labour leader served as Jeremy Corbyn’s shadow Brexit secretary from 2016-19. In this role, he was integral to the push for a second referendum on exiting the European Union, a position that many fault for Labour’s catastrophic performance in the 2019 election.

Now Burkina Faso and another military junta-led country friendly with Russia, Mali, have taken the unusual step of declaring that foreign military intervention in neighboring Niger after last week’s coup would be considered a declaration of war against them, too. They are defying the West African regional body known as ECOWAS, which said on Sunday it could use force if Niger’s coup leaders don’t reinstate the democratically elected president, Mohamed Bazoum, within a week. Another coup-affected nation, Guinea, in a separate statement supported Niger’s junta and urged ECOWAS to “come to its senses.”

At least one crew member died and others were injured after fire ripped through the Fremantle Highway, a 18,500-ton car-carrying vessel. Rescue helicopters and boats evacuated 23 crew members from the Panamanian-registered ship. Officials have said there are ‘many’ wounded. Some suffered broken bones, burns and breathing problems and were taken to hospitals in the northern Netherlands, emergency officials said. Seven crew members jumped overboard and were rescued from the water, while the rest were airlifted by helicopter. Dutch broadcaster NOS reported that all the crew were Indian. This afternoon, the ship was said to be burning out of control in the North Sea and rescue vessels were working to save it from sinking close to one of the world’s most important migratory bird habitats. ‘Currently there are a lot of vessels on scene to monitor the situation and to see how to get the fire under control,’ coast guard spokeswoman Lea Versteeg told the Associated Press in a telephone interview. ‘But it’s all depending on weather and the damage to the vessel, so we’re currently working out how we can make sure that… the least bad situation is going to happen.’ Asked if it is possible the ship could sink, Ms Versteeg said: ‘It’s a scenario we’re taking into account and we’re preparing for all scenarios.’ Early this afternoon, two ships were alongside the freighter hosing down its sides in an attempt to cool them, the coast guard said, but firefighters were still unable to attempt to extinguish flames on the ship and smoke was billowing out of its hold.

Now under pressure for clean energy they correctly agree to develop new oil and gas wells but have resurrected or stolen Richard Budge’s coal scheme for a gas powered power station using the clean coal technology. What a missed opportunity, this could have regenerated the coalfield and reopened a new mine in Doncaster .
