Jeremy Farrar new Chief Scientist for WHO World Health Organisation’s appointment of Jeremy Farrar as chief scientist is scandalous – The Covid origin debate is now murkier than ever Ian Birrell December 18, 2022 5:27 pm (Updated December 20, 2022 12:40 pm) It is three years since a strange new disease began felling people in a city in central China, sparking the pandemic that has killed possibly 15 million people while causing immense collateral damage. There is still no clarity about whether this disaster was caused by human error, some kind of research mishap, or spilled over from nature. Yet there seems minimal official interest in determining Covid’s origins – let alone in confronting China over its refusal to share data that might help solve this medical mystery – although this hampers our ability to guard against a similar catastrophe. From the start, the world was failed by the World Health Organisation. This UN body – run by a former minister in a repressive Ethiopian regime elected with Beijing’s help – praised China for “protecting the people of the world” despite the dictatorship silencing whistleblowers, declining to share data and delaying to warn about human transmission. The organisation was slow to declare a public health emergency. It kowtowed to China with its ludicrous probe of the origins. And even its retiring chief scientist admits they were sluggish to warn of aerosol transmission, a delay that possibly cost many lives. There are few signs of contrition. Its dismal director-general was handed a second five-year term without opposition. Now the body has appointed Sir Jeremy Farrar, director of the Wellcome Trust research funding behemoth, as next chief scientist. This is a scandalous decision given his central role in trying to seemingly stifle suggestions that Sars-CoV-2 – the coronavirus strain that causes Covid – might not be a natural disease. Science relies on openness. Yet the more that has emerged in emails, freedom of information requests, leaks and books exposing Farrar’s actions, the less confidence we can have in him holding a world-leading scientific role for all his undoubted expertise and political skills. There are two issues in the origins debate (which, like many things, was muddied by Donald Trump during his presidency). The first is the core question of the cause. There is no conclusive evidence for natural “zoonotic” transmission from animals, despite intense searching to find a host creature that might have led a bat virus to cross over into humans. Nor is there hard proof of a lab leak. We have, however, seen a tide of concerns over safety practices, data secrecy and risky research in Wuhan. Properties of the virus also strike many scientists as unusual, notably the “furin cleavage site” that enables more efficient entry into human cells and is not found on similar types of coronavirus. Some respected scientists such as Robert Redfield – a virologist serving as head of the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention when the pandemic struck – conclude that “the nature of this virus is not consistent with spillover evolution”. He said last week that Sars-CoV-2 “clearly had to be adapted for human-to-human transmission and I do believe that occurred in a laboratory”, adding that the evidence points to the Wuhan Institute of Virology, China’s first top-level biosafety lab and Asia’s biggest bat coronavirus research unit. Other prominent figures disagree profoundly. This provokes the sort of passionate arguments that drive forward science as experts strive to prove their theories. The second issue smacks of something darker: a bid to cover up any possibility that controversial “gain of function” research to boost infectivity – carried out in Wuhan, aided by Western funding – might lie behind the pandemic. History shows that human error can lead to lethal laboratory accidents. Yet some top scientists, including Farrar, were quick to praise China, said experts knew Covid was not created in a lab, branded such ideas conspiracy theories and insisted “evidence” indicated it had spilled over from nature. Influential papers appeared in science journals to push such arguments. Patsy journalists lapped up their claims uncritically. Gradually, drip by drip, it emerged that Farrar was helping lead a group of experts who colluded to crush suggestions the virus might be linked to research.

Less than a fortnight after China confirmed human transmission, the Wellcome chief hosted a teleconference at the behest of the American presidential adviser Anthony Fauci. It included the head of the biggest US funding body and Sir Patrick Vallance, the UK’s chief scientific adviser, along with several participants who feared Covid might be tied to research. Suddenly their views shifted from fearing the virus might be manufactured to dismissing such possibilities, despite lack of fresh data or firm evidence. After the discussion, Farrar privately admitted he was still “50:50” on the cause – yet at the same time oversaw and “tidied up” an influential statement in Nature Medicine, stating that the authors “do not believe that any type of laboratory-based scenario is plausible”. Weirdly, his work was not credited. Four days later, he condemned “Wild West” research in Wuhan in an email to Fauci and the head of the big US funding body. Yet he signed – with two Wellcome Trust colleagues – an infamous Lancet statement that condemned “conspiracy theories suggesting that Covid-19 does not have a natural origin”. It was later found to have been covertly organised by British scientist Peter Daszak, a collaborator with Wuhan’s top bat researcher. Other disconcerting inconsistencies and activities have emerged in this unedifying saga. The key in such a process is transparency and to keep an open mind until evidence dictates otherwise. Instead, whatever Covid’s cause, we see glimpses in released emails and redacted documents of something sinister: an attempt by top Western scientists and funding bodies to shut down debate. A report last week by House Republicans claimed US intelligence is also withholding important information from “the American public and the world”. Perhaps we should be glad the Wellcome Trust can start to restore its battered brand. But the WHO is further undermining its credibility by handing such an influential post to a man embroiled in allegations of tarnishing the integrity of science on such an important quest.

For the same reason they were complicit with Big Tobacco for decades in hiding the truth about cigarette smoking – money – the good old US dollar. Big-monied interests have captured our nation and its regulatory agencies. First, we saw Big Tobacco’s hefty campaign contributions to key politicians. Next, it has been the Food Industry and its millions in persuasion. Finally, and most importantly, it has become Big Pharma and their brethren: The World Economic Forum, that friendly collection of Billionaire-run corporations now so familiar to us – those legendary rags to riches names including Gates, Bezos, Bourla, Bancel, Bloomberg, Zuckerberg, and others. These colossal interests support other monstrous monied pursuits, including profitable – albeit not-so-healthy processed foods, mRNA genetic shots [renamed as “vaccines”], and of course, patented, expensive drugs like statins and chemotherapies – to the exclusion of cheap and effective repurposed drugs. These interests also enjoy controlling the narrative through strategic ownership or influence of various media outlets like the Washington Post, the New York Times, Wikipedia, PBS Newshour, NPR, etc. For example, the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation heavily contributed to PBS, while Jeff Bezos purchased the Washington Post. So it is no wonder these sites will attack cheap, repurposed drugs no matter how safe and effective, yet promote expensive patented new drugs, regardless of how dangerous and ineffective. Go against them at your peril. They can make anyone look bad. If you have any questions about that, take a look at websites that no longer exist, and compare them with today’s versions. For this task, I consulted the Wayback Machine, the globalists’ worst enemy, as it can retrieve censored or purged internet pages. Viewing these pages is instructive as it can show patterns of censorship and propaganda. Andrew Bridgen MP BLOCKBUSTER adjournment debate speech on Tuesday 13th December, Tory MP, gives a speech about Aseem Malhotra’s findings on the mRNA Covid vaccines, and how ‘wilful blindness’ is endemic in institutions because of vested interests. Following my speech, he says, on vaccine harms in the House of Commons earlier this week hereby a list of supporting scientific references. The list was proactively sent to journalists immediately after my speech. Because of clear and robust data of significant harms and little ongoing benefit. (1) – Erosion of trust in public health and attack on democracy that we will witness in our lifetime. (2) despite widespread circulation and it making international news. (3, and in the Times of India – 4). That disturbing but well-recognised psychological phenomenon is known as Wilful blindness. (5) Since the roll out in the UK of the Biontech/Pfizer mRNA vaccine we have almost half a million yellow card reports of adverse effects from the public. (6) by the public is thought to only represent 10 % of the true rate of serious adverse events occurring in the population. (7).  In other words their data revealed one needed to vaccinate 119 people to prevent one infection. (8). The World Health Organisation and the Academy of Medical Royal Colleges have previously made it clear that its an ethical responsibility that medical information is communicated to patients in absolute benefit and risk terms to protect the public from unnecessary anxiety and manipulation. During a 3 month wave of omicron at the beginning of the year reveals one would need to vaccinate 7300 people over the age of 80 to prevent one covid death. (11) Revealed a rate of serious adverse events of 1 per 800 individuals vaccinated. (12).  In the past vaccines have been completely withdrawn from use for a much lower incidence of serious harm. For example, the swine flu vaccine was withdrawn in 1976 for causing Guillan Barre syndrome in 1 in 100,000 adults and in 1999 the rotavirus vaccine was withdrawn for causing a form of bowel obstruction in children affecting 1 in 10,000. (13). A 25% increase in heart attack and cardiac arrest calls in 16-39 year olds in Israel associated with the first and second doses of vaccine and not associated with covid infection. (14).  Similar findings have been replicated in Florida. (15). In fact in the UK we have an extra 14000 out of hospital cardiac arrests in 2021 compared to 2020 following the vaccine roll out. (16).  The MHRA has a huge financial conflict of interest receiving 86% of its funding from the pharmaceutical industry they are supposed to regulate. (17).  Similarly another investigation revealed that members of the JCVI has financial links to the Bill and Melinda Gates foundation totalling a billion dollars. (18).  Do policy makers, the media and the public know that the foundation is heavily invested in pharmaceutical industry stocks? (19). The real scandal is that those with a responsibility to patients and scientific integrity, namely doctors, academic institutions and medical journals collude with industry for financial gain. (20).  Through the legal environment (limited liability for shareholders) and the extra-legal environment through opposition fragmentation. (21). Its no surprise that because of so much control by an entity that has been described as Psychopathic in its profit making conduct (22). One analysis suggests the third most common cause of death globally after heart disease and cancer is because of side effects of prescribed medications which were mostly avoidable.(23). Something is rotten in British Medicine and has been for a long time. (24). On separate occasions in the past several years these calls have been supported and covered by the Daily Mail, The Guardian and most recently the I newspaper. A report by the Journal of American Medical Association, studying the effect of the Covid-19 mRNA vaccination on children under 5 years of age, showed one in 200 had one adverse event, which resulted in hospitalisation, and symptoms that lasted longer than 90 days. Mr Sunak’s predecessor as prime minister Liz Truss signalled during the summer Tory leadership she would not appoint anyone to the role, telling party members “I don’t think you can outsource ethics to an adviser”. But Mr Sunak said filling the role was a priority when he took office in October, promising to restore “integrity, professionalism and accountability at every level”. Who is Sir Laurie Magnus? Worked in financial services for 40 years, and is listed as a senior adviser at investment banking group Evercore Former deputy chairman of the National Trust, he was appointed chairman of Historic England in 2013, then known as English Heritage Sat on the board of the government’s Culture Recovery Fund, set up to help cultural bodies during the Covid pandemic Educated at Eton College and Oxford University, his title of ‘Sir’ is from the baronetcy he inherited from his uncle Awarded a CBE in the late Queen’s 2022 New Year’s Honours list, for services to heritage Dave Penman, the boss of the FDA union representing senior civil servants, said Mr Sunak had missed an opportunity to “reset the relationship” between ministers and officials. “Instead of that, he’s followed exactly the same path as Boris Johnson did. So essentially he’s continuity Johnson when it comes to the ministerial code,” he added. Later that year, Sir Laurie told MPs that Historic England’s preference was to keep “contested” statues standing in public places – but to “re-contextualise and reinterpret” them through actions like updated inscriptions and artistic installations.

UK strikes – Rishi is not going to negotiate.  Sunak says limiting public sector pay is in the UK’s interests (Dec 23): Prime Minister Rishi Sunak insisted the government is acting in the UK’s interests by refusing to negotiate salary deals with health unions, though he did not rule out the possibility of a one-off payment to end the standoff as nurses and paramedics prepare for more strikes next year. “I want to make sure that we reduce inflation and part of that is being responsible in setting public sector pay,” Sunak told broadcasters on Friday. “The government has acted fairly and reasonably in accepting all the recommendations of the public sector pay review bodies.” When asked if he is considering giving National Health Service workers a one-time pay rise given the public support for their industrial action, he said the government’s door “is always open.” Sunak is under increasing public pressure to back down ­ though many in his ruling Conservative Party support his position ­ as the UK prepares for further disruption in healthcare, transport, postal services and border force over the Christmas break and in the New Year. Ambulance workers and nurses said they will carry out two more days of strikes in January.

There is no end in sight to the conflict sparked by Putin’s Feb. 24 invasion of Ukraine, which has killed tens of thousands of people and driven millions from their homes. Russia now controls around a fifth of Ukraine. The Kremlin says Kyiv must acknowledge Moscow’s annexation of southern and eastern regions. Ukraine says every Russian soldier must leave its territory, including Crimea, which Russia annexed in 2014. Kyiv applied to join NATO after Moscow announced the annexations in September. “The time is approaching to build on the strategic changes which have already been accomplished and to integrate them into a new structure towards achieving peace through negotiation,” Kissinger wrote in The Spectator magazine. “A peace process should link Ukraine to NATO, however expressed. RIP musical genius Terry Hall of The Specials/Fun Boy Three, who has died of pancreatic cancer, aged 63  R.I.P. with a tribute to him. Music industry has become hopelessly commercialised by the bankster-Nazis, who Terry warned of in some of his songs, since the early 1980s. Terry Hall of The Specials dies aged 63 – Abducted aged 12 – The musician was born in 1959 and raised in Coventry, where most of his family worked in the city’s then-booming car industry. But his life took a dark turn when, at the age of 12, he was kidnapped by a teacher. “I was abducted, taken to France and sexually abused for four days,” he told The Spectator in 2019. “And then punched in the face and left on the roadside.” Hall said the incident left him with life-long depression and caused him to drop out of education at the age of 14, after becoming addicted to the Valium he had been prescribed. “I didn’t go to school, I didn’t do anything. I just sat on my bed rocking for eight months.” Music was some form of solace; and Hall joined a local Ska band called The Specials. That period culminated with 1981’s Ghost Town, an hypnotic, menacing song that seemed to predict and then soundtrack that summer’s riots on the streets of London, Manchester, Liverpool and Birmingham. The song went to number one, but Hall – who was only 22 – found it hard to bridge the discrepancy between chart fame and the band’s political message. “When we picked up a gold disc for Ghost Town, I felt really bad about it,” he said. “You are being told to celebrate this number one record that is about what is happening, the mess that we are in, and I felt very uncomfortable.” Hall left the band to start Fun Boy Three with Golding and Staple, abandoning ska for a more experimental, skeletal sound. Their debut single The Lunatics (Have Taken Over The Asylum) picked up where Ghost Town left off, and Hall wrote about his childhood abuse on the album track Well Fancy That. But the band found more commercial success by teaming up with the era’s biggest girl group. They duetted with Bananarama on Really Saying Something and a cover of the jazz standard It Ain’t What You Do; while Hall teamed up with Jane Wiedlin of The Go-Gos to write Our Lips Are Sealed, a song that both bands recorded and took into the charts separately.

Is this Theft? BANKS won’t give us our money Two years ago, BitChute became the target of an activist group that attempted to shut us down by pressuring our suppliers. As a result, we lost some server hosting, our office space, and other suppliers. We also lost our bank account with HSBC. A bank account we had held in good standing and without any issues since we launched in 2017. We initially tried to open a new account with a different bank and transfer our money. However, the new bank rejected us just as the funds had reached them. Our money was returned to HSBC, but we could no longer access it, and even today, we still have not retrieved our money from HSBC. In August 2021, after failing to get a resolution through the HSBC complaints process, we requested arbitration through the UK’s banking Ombudsman. We were informed of a long wait due to Covid, which had resulted in many bank-related problems for businesses. It wouldn’t be until November 2022 that our case would be assigned.

Irmgard Furchner, a 97 year old former Nazi secretary, is put on trial. Irmgard Furchner: Nazi typist guilty of complicity in 10,500 murders The court ordered that pictures of Irmgard Furchner from the trial should be blurred A former secretary who worked for the commander of a Nazi concentration camp has been convicted of complicity in the murders of more than 10,500 people. Irmgard Furchner, 97, was taken on as a teenaged shorthand typist at Stutthof and worked there from 1943 to 1945. Furchner, the first woman to be tried for Nazi crimes in decades, was given a two-year suspended jail term. Although she was a civilian worker, the judge agreed she was fully aware of what was going on at the camp.

Some 65,000 people are thought to have died in horrendous conditions at Stutthof, including Jewish prisoners, non-Jewish Poles and captured Soviet soldiers. Furchner was found guilty of aiding and abetting the murder of 10,505 people and complicity in the attempted murder of five others. As she was only 18 or 19 at the time, she was tried in a special juvenile court. At Stutthof, located near the modern-day Polish city of Gdansk, a variety of methods was used to murder detainees and thousands died in gas chambers there from June 1944. The court at Itzehoe in northern Germany heard from survivors of the camp, some of whom have died during the trial. When the trial began in September 2021, Irmgard Furchner went on the run from her retirement home and was eventually found by police on a street in Hamburg. Stutthof commandant Paul-Werner Hoppe was jailed in 1955 for being an accessory to murder and he was released five years later.

Nazis in Ukraine: Seeing through the fog of the information war – According to John-Paul Himka, a quarter of all victims of the Holocaust lived in Ukraine, and Ukrainian ultra-nationalists collaborated with the Nazis in carrying out their horrendous deeds. The Organization of Ukrainian Nationalists (OUN) and its armed force, the Ukrainian Insurgent Army (Ukrainska povstanska armiia­UPA) participated in this genocidal rampage: “OUN militias were key actors in the anti-Jewish violence of summer 1941; OUN recruited for and infiltrated police formations that provided indispensable manpower for the Germans’ mobile killing units; and in 1943, thousands of these policemen deserted from German service to join the OUN-led nationalist insurgency, during which UPA killed Jews who had managed to survive the major liquidations of 1942.” According to Ian Sayer and Douglas Botting, “the OUN played a significant part in the extermination of the Jews and other ‘undesirables,’ often performing the dirty work of the German Einsatzkommando extermination squads (eg the killing of children), and continuing after the war under American sponsorship.” Indeed, in the postwar era, the U.S. government discreetly integrated an alarming number of Nazi collaborators into a veritable international network of anti-communist fascists. By 1952, John Loftus estimates that there were “hundreds if not thousands of important Nazi collaborators from Byelorussia, the Ukraine, the Baltic states, and the Balkans” who had been brought to the United States (and many more had been operationalized around the world). The US Counter Intelligence Core ran operation Anyface to protect the fascist leader of the OUN–the renowned Nazi collaborator Stepan Bandera–from being brought to justice by the Soviets. Bandera’s chief of the national security service (SB), Mykola Lebed, was “the highest ranking Ukrainian Nazi to ever enter the United States.” CIA covert operations chief Frank Wisner admitted in 1951 there were “at least twenty former or active members of the SB of OUN/Bandera in the United States.” The US intelligence services worked closely with several organizations of former Nazi collaborators like these in order to run extensive sabotage, terror and assassination campaigns against the USSR. In 1951, Wisner estimated that “over 35,000 members of the Russian secret police (MVD-MKGB) have been killed by OUN-UPA since the end of the last war.” NATO was deeply involved in this anti-communist war, as demonstrated perhaps most clearly by Operation Gladio. Overseen by the CIA and MI6, NATO established a large secret army of trained militants, many of whom were well established Nazis and fascists. According to the official Italian Senate investigation into Gladio: “It emerges without the shadow of a doubt that elements of the CIA started in the second half of the 1960s a massive operation in order to counter by the use of all means the spreading of groups and movements of the left on a European level.” This included targeted killings and false flag terrorist attacks that were blamed on communists in order to terrify the civilian population into supporting right-wing governments and anti-communist raids.

The Designated Prime Minster Netanyahu revealed that he had successfully formed a new coalition in an phone call to President Isaac Herzong. His Likud Party released a brief video clip of the smiling Netanyahu and a recording of the conversation. “I wanted to announce to you that thanks to the amazing public support we received in the elections, I have succeeded in forming a government that will take care of all the citizens of Israel,” Netanyahu said. The move comes after weeks of difficult negotiations with his partners – who still need to finalise power-sharing deals with Netanyahu’s Likud Party. The inbound PM however intends to complete the process “as soon as possible next week.” If successful, he will preside over a coalition dominated by far-right and ultra-Orthodox partners each pushing their own agenda. Dramatic changes could risk alienating parts of the Israeli public and raise the risk of conflict with Palestine – something that would put Israel on a collision course with supporters such as the United States.

They are simply determined to continue fighting,” Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said. During a joint press conference with President Biden, Zelensky said that he wouldn’t make “compromises” to reach a “just peace.” The Ukrainian leader mentioned a peace proposal he put forward, but it calls for the withdrawal of Russian troops from the Ukrainian territories Moscow has captured, which is a non-starter for talks with Russia. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that the new US aid packages for Ukraine will drag out the war. During Zelensky’s visit, the US announced a new $1.85 billion weapons package for Ukraine that includes a Patriot missile system for the first time. The funds are coming from aid that has already been authorized for Ukraine, but Congress is expected to pass a new $45 billion tranche of aid this week. “This is not conducive to a speedy settlement, quite the contrary. And this cannot prevent the Russian Federation from achieving its goals during the special military operation,” Peskov said. The Kremlin spokesman added that there were no signs of a willingness to “listen to Russia’s concerns” during Zelensky’s visit. He said this showed that the US was willing to fight a proxy war against Russia down to “the last Ukrainian.” Anatoly Antonov, Russia’s ambassador to the US, made similar comments about Zelensky’s address to Congress. “What was essentially announced to applause and sarcastic smirks, was the need to continue the proxy war against our country,” he said. Antonov warned that the new US military aid is “leading to an escalation, the consequences of which cannot even be imagined.”

The EMCDDA estimates that around 83.4 million people aged 15 to 64 in the EU, or 29% of the population, use drugs today, with more men than women. Although cannabis remains the most popular substance, ahead of cocaine, MDMA and amphetamines, it has been noted that the range of available substances for drug addicts is expanding due to synthetic drugs. Speaking about the increase in drug use, numerous experts and politicians have more than once linked this issue with several reasons, among which one of the most significant was the rise in immigration to the European Union. However, if in 2021 this situation pointed to the worsening crisis in Afghanistan and the need to prepare for the influx of migrants and drugs from this country, then in recent months there have been indications pointing to the influx of Ukrainian citizens, amongst whom there are various criminal structures of this country. Moreover, it is no longer a secret that the deterioration of the criminal situation in Europe has been largely due to the resale through the black market of all kinds of weapons coming to Ukraine from the United States and other NATO member states in large quantities, as well as other types of so-called “military assistance” of the West for the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU). The belief that it is possible to fight not only with weapons, but also with drugs has long been entrenched in the minds of American and British military leaders. Peter Taylor, author of ‘Chill: a Reassessment of Global Warming Theory’, joins Tony and Martin in the studio.  Peter discusses why he thinks the modelling for climate science is wrong, as it doesn’t account for millennial natural changes.  Chill: A Reassessment Of Global Warming Theory, Does Climate Change Mean The World Is Cooling, And If So What Should We Do About It? – by Peter Taylor Although the world’s climate has undergone many cyclical changes, the phrase ‘climate change’ has taken on a sinister meaning, implying catastrophe for humanity, ecology and the environment. We are told that we are responsible for this threat, and that we should act immediately to prevent it. But the apparent scientific consensus over the causes and effects of climate change is not what it appears. “Chill” is a critical survey of the subject by a committed environmentalist and scientist. Based on extensive research, it reveals a disturbing collusion of interests responsible for creating a distorted understanding of changes in global climate. Scientific institutions, basing their work on critically flawed computer simulations and models, have gained influence and funding. In return they have allowed themselves to be directed by the needs of politicians and lobbyists for simple answers, slogans and targets. The resulting policy – a 60 percent reduction of greenhouse-gas emissions by 2050 – would have a huge, almost unimaginable, impact upon landscape, community and biodiversity. On the basis of his studies of satellite data, cloud cover, ocean and solar cycles, Peter Taylor concludes that the main driver of recent global warming has been an unprecedented combination of natural events. His investigations indicate that the current threat facing humanity is a period of cooling, as the cycle turns, comparable in severity to the Little Ice Age of 1400-1700 AD. The risks of such cooling are potentially greater than global warming and on a more immediate time scale, with the possibility of failing harvests leaving hundreds of millions vulnerable to famine. Drawing on his experience of energy policy and sustainability, Taylor suggests practical steps that should be taken now. He urges a shift away from mistaken policies that attempt to avert inevitable natural changes, to an adaptation to a climate that may turn significantly cooler.

Climate Myth… – It’s a natural cycle – “Global warming (i.e, the warming since 1977) is over. The minute increase of anthropogenic CO2 in the atmosphere (0.008%) was not the cause of the warming­it was a continuation of natural cycles that occurred over the past 500 years.” (Don Easterbrook) Global warming refers to the long-term warming of global temperature since the 1850s. The cause of global warming has been investigated by many scientists, who have summarized their finding in multiple assessment reports by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC). The only plausible mechanism of global warming is a planetary energy imbalance, with our climate system building up heat. This and the observed fingerprints left on global warming confirm the dominant role of human activities. Fossil fuel burning is causing recent global warming – Scientists have identified two factors that drive global climate change: internal variability and external forcings. Internal variability refers to the internal processes moving heat around within the climate system. External forcings cause an energy imbalance – with the planet either building up or losing heat – and can be both natural and human caused. The only plausible mechanism accounting for the long-term temperature increase of global warming is through a buildup of heat in the climate system (Li et al., 2007). Among the various external forcings that can cause the climate system’s energy imbalance, scientists have concluded the main cause of recent global warming is the increase of atmospheric CO2 due to fossil fuel burning. In order to understand how scientists came to the above conclusion, it is important to understand the various drivers of climate changes. Internal variability moves heat around the climate system – Climate change is like the motion of water in a kitchen sink with an inflow from the faucet and an outflow through the drain. The motion consists of both the water sloshing around and the rising and falling of water level. The random sloshing around is what scientists call “internal variability,” while the rising and falling of water level is what scientists call “forced variability”. Internal variability (e.g., ocean cycles such as El Niño South Oscillation, Pacific Decadal Oscillation, and Atlantic Multidecadal Oscillation) moves heat around to give rise to regional climate change on timescales ranging from annual to millennial timescales. Like the water sloshing around, internal variability doesn’t build up or dissipate the total amount of heat in the climate system. In contrast, external forcings (e.g., 11-year solar cycle and changes in the Earth’s orbit) change the climate by causing a buildup or loss of heat, similar to the change in water level being determined by the difference between the inflow and outflow. The single cause fallacy committed by the natural cycle myth – One climate myth argues that recent global warming is caused by natural cycles rather than human activity. The so-called “natural cycles” in the myth may include climate variation due to internal variability or external forcings. Natural external forcings, such as the 11-year solar cycle and changes in the Earth’s orbit, are part of nature and not influenced by human activities. Other external forcings like greenhouse gases and aerosol concentrations in the atmosphere are significantly influenced by human activities, and thus are excluded from natural cycles.

In a letter to Rep. James Comer (R-Ky.) on Wednesday, a top NIH official blamed EcoHealth Alliance ­ the New York City-based nonprofit that has funneled US funds to the Wuhan lab ­ for not being transparent about the work it was doing. NIH’s principal deputy director, Lawrence A. Tabak, wrote in the letter that EcoHealth’s “limited experiment” tested whether “spike proteins from naturally occurring bat coronaviruses circulating in China were capable of binding to the human ACE2 receptor in a mouse model.”

This is going to be trialled in Oxfordshire in Britain. Oxfordshire County Council Pass Climate Lockdown ‘trial’ to Begin in 2024 – Oxfordshire County Council yesterday approved plans to lock residents into one of six zones to ‘save the planet’ from global warming. The latest stage in the ’15 minute city’ agenda is to place electronic gates on key roads in and out of the city, confining residents to their own neighbourhoods. Under the new scheme if residents want to leave their zone they will need permission from the Council who gets to decide who is worthy of freedom and who isn’t. Under the new scheme residents will be allowed to leave their zone a maximum of 100 days per year, but in order to even gain this every resident will have to register their car details with the council who will then track their movements via smart cameras round the city. Communism will make the weather better. – Oxfordshire County Council, which is run by Labour, the Liberal Democrats and the Green Party, secretly decided to divide-up the city of Oxford into six ‘15 minute’ districts in 2021 soon after they were elected to office. None of the councillors declared their intention of imprisoning local residents in their manifestos of course, preferring to make vague claims about how they will ‘improve the environment’ instead. Every resident will be required to register their car with the County Council who will then monitor how many times they leave their district via number plate recognition cameras. And don’t think you can beat the system if you’re a two car household. Those two cars will be counted as one meaning you will have to divide up the journeys between yourselves. 2 cars 50 journeys each; 3 cars 33 journeys each and so on.

Why Is Oxford Imposing ‘Traffic Zones’ on the city? Oxford’s £6.5m ‘traffic filter’ trial approved A £6.5m trial to stop most drivers in Oxford from using busy city routes at peak times has been approved. But Oxfordshire County Council’s six traffic filters look set to be delayed until at least 2024 because of work at Oxford train station. More than 5,700 people gave their views to the council in a consultation and thousands of others expressed concerns in other petitions. The authority’s cabinet is expected to approve the project next week. It could install six number plate recognition cameras across the city for at least six months as part of efforts to “achieve a sustainable transport system”. Just over 1,800 people signed a petition opposing the project over worries it would cause congestion on Botley Road. In documents, council planners said traffic could increase by an average of 10% across a typical weekday on Botley Road, west of the junction with Seacourt Park and Ride. They also admit the traffic filters could “cause some vehicles to divert via the ring road” and “potentially increase” traffic flows on “outer sections of some radial roads”.

Firstly it is good that some parts of the media are talking about this as many are ignoring what is happening, with almost half a year of deaths above what you would expect. For two years we were told how many deaths within 28 days of a positive Covid test, but this seems to be ignored. We have seen around 13,500 more deaths than we would have expected to see if death rates were the same as pre-pandemic over the past 25 weeks. Over the course of the summer, and partly through early Autumn, two mini waves of Covid and this is contributing to older people dying, as we know the deaths linked to Covid are mainly among older people. Now when you strip out deaths linked to Covid we are still seeing higher-than-expected deaths. What is interesting is that while more people are dying, there are no more people attending A&E than we saw before the pandemic. We also are not seeing more people being admitted for emergency reasons than before the pandemic. If we look at the waiting lists, before the pandemic there were very few people waiting for heart procedures, now we have around 5,000 waiting for a heart procedure. If more people are waiting for heart procedures, and we know from the data that more people are dying than you would expect of heart issues, my concern is are people dying without being seen at all.

Kevin Beezer, South West Regional Organiser for Communication Workers Union (CWU), on Ben Watts (CWU Rep) being suspended, and the latest strikes with post piling up in Bristol. Bristol post workers ‘told to bin leaflets’ due to mail backlog Paid-for marketing material is not being delivered due to Royal Mail’s backlog, it is alleged Postal workers have allegedly been told to bin large amounts of undelivered out-of-date paid-for leaflets while dealing with a backlog. The Bristol Mail Centre often makes no attempt to deliver paid-for marketing campaigns, according to Ben Watts of the Communications Workers Union (CWU). Mr Watts said staff had reported being uncomfortable with the situation. Royal Mail said it took door-to-door mail seriously and often reminded staff all mail was of “equal importance”. Door-to-door mail is a service offered by Royal Mail to businesses, charities and other organisations hoping to reach new customers or donors. They are charged a fee to have a leaflet or letter delivered to every home in a certain post code over a particular time frame. In an open letter to the Bristol Mail Centre’s management this week, Mr Watts said he had received “several complaints” from staff about the treatment of door-to-door mail at the facility. Industrial action and a moratorium on overtime had contributed to the backlog, Communications Workers Union branch secretary Ben Watts said Mr Watts, who is secretary of the Bristol branch of the CMU, alleged that parcels were being prioritised, and leaflets were deemed “out-of-date” if the delivery period the client had specified was missed, they were then thrown away. “I am sure the customers who have paid for (door-to-door mail) will be disgusted,” he said. Mr Watts added: “This hit a real nerve when one of the door-to-door leaflets being binned was a charity asking for donations.” Speaking to BBC West, Mr Watts said: “Maybe the public don’t like it, and the posties don’t like delivering it, but door-to-door mail is a really important source of revenue for Royal Mail.” He added: “Are we letting the companies know we are not delivering the door-to-door mail they’ve paid a substantial amount of money for?”

Christmas chaos as Royal Mail Bristol deliveries may be damaged by foxes and rats due to pile up Christmas may be cancelled for some Brits this year as there have been reports that letters and parcels have been left in huge piles outside deports, which has exposed them to local wildlife as well as the current snowy weather. Photographs from the Bristol Mail Centre have shown packages have been left out to be exposed to the elements, and some photographs showed foxes climbing onto the parcels. One Royal Mail worker, who wished to remain anonymous over fears of losing their job, told Bristol Live they had never witnessed a backlog as bad as this before. The worker added they were concerned about members of the public who have been waiting for packages, with “more coming in than going out”. The worker claimed the packages have now attracted rats and other animals such as foxes, and that workers had considered using a tarpaulin to cover the exposed parcels. However, the worker was sceptical of this idea as “it would have to be the biggest tarpaulin in the world as everything has been ruined”.

The ROSCOs all use multi-company group structures so the analysis was conducted using the accounts of the top company based in the UK. In the case of Porterbrook, this was Porterbrook Rail Finance Ltd, until the ownership of the group changed in 2014, whereupon a new group holding company was formed called Porterbrook Holdings 1 Ltd. For Angel trains, the main leasing company is Angel Trains Ltd, but the top accounting company in the UK is Willow Rolling Stock UK Ltd. The top UK company of the Eversholt Group is Eversholt investment Security Ltd. … The dividends which flow out of the ROSCOs are impressive. RMT analysis of dividend payments between 2012 and 2018 show that the ROSCO’s passed on a total of £1.2 billion to their shareholders. To put that in context, these three companies paid dividends worth as much as all the dividend payments TOCs managed across more than 20 franchises over a five year period between 2012 and 2017

The provisional findings published today outlined how a lack of rivalry between the three rolling stock operating companies (ROSCOs) for existing train leasing contracts was inhibiting flexibility and restricting alternative choices for train operating companies (TOCs), despite high competition for first leases of new rolling stock…. A lack of competition in the UK’s rolling stock leasing market is driving up rental prices and severely limiting options available to train operators, a preliminary Competition Commission (CC) report has found. The provisional findings published today outlined how a lack of rivalry between the three rolling stock operating companies (ROSCOs) for existing train leasing contracts was inhibiting flexibility and restricting alternative choices for train operating companies (TOCs), despite high competition for first leases of new rolling stock. Inquiry chair and CC deputy chairman, Diana Guy, said: “There is frequently little or no competition to the existing, incumbent fleet of rolling stock on particular services when franchises are being re-let and new leases for rolling stock must be negotiated. “There are a number of reasons for this but the fundamental problem stems from the lack of alternatives to the incumbent fleets when TOCs are putting together their franchise bids.” At the time of franchise renewal, TOCs review the leasing arrangements for a lower price as the asset depreciates over its lifespan. However, the CC is concerned that a lack of competition is keeping prices higher than the rate at which rolling stock devalues.

RMT exposes £1.2 billion privatised rail rip-off – RMT research has revealed that the private companies responsible for supplying trains to the railways have been paying massive dividends to their shareholders – money that could have funded hundreds of new vehicles – while shuffling money away into overseas companies based in Luxembourg to avoid paying tax. Three rolling stock leasing companies (ROSCOs) paid £1.2 billion in dividends to their shareholders between 2012 and 2018, enough to fund 700 new vehicles, while figures on inter-company lending suggest that this is just the tip of the iceberg. The firm’s own 87 per cent of the rolling stock on Britain’s railways and were formed after the Tories privatised British Rail in 1993 and handed BR’s stock of 11,250 vehicles, assets which had been funded by public investment. When the then Tory PM John Major privatised the railways under EU directive 91/440, travellers were told fares would fall, but the cost of some tickets has risen by 250 per cent in the intervening 26 years. ROSCOs revenues have risen steadily since 2012, from around £800 million in 2012 to around £1 billion in 2017. Department for Transport data also shows the average age of rolling stock has risen since privatisation, from 16 years in the last year before privatisation to almost 20 years in 2017/18.

Tenants feel ‘forgotten and neglected’ as landlords face unprecedented number of complaints In an exclusive report ITV News Investigations Correspondent Daniel Hewitt reveals that housing associations and councils have received an ‘unprecedented increase’ in the number of complaints made by tenants in the past year The number of tenants complaining about their housing association or council has risen dramatically in the last 12 months, ITV News has learned. Complaints to the Housing Ombudsman increased from 10,015 to 16,289 between April 2021 and March 2022, a rise of 63%. Data shared with ITV News shows L&Q (1,202) were the most complained about housing association, followed by Clarion (749) and Peabody Trust (537). Peabody experienced the biggest jump in the number of complaints year-on-year, with a 123% increase. Analysis of case numbers by ITV News shows the Ombudsman is now dealing with twice the number of complaints about social landlords than in 2019, when it received 7,769. In a statement, Housing Ombudsman Richard Blakeway said: “We have faced an unprecedented increase in complaints over the last year. “Increased awareness of our role, media coverage on the quality of some social housing together with the challenges faced by social housing landlords with the cost of living crisis and ageing homes have all contributed to this.

Ex-Canadian spy calls for Shamima Begum’s UK return after spy agency ‘cover up’ New questions are now being asked about how Shamima Begum got to Syria, as Rohit Kachroo reports A former Canadian intelligence officer has called for Shamima Begum to be returned to the UK because of what she claims were failures and a cover up involving the spy agency she once worked for. Huda Mukbil, who used to be a senior officer at the Canadian Security Intelligence Service, says her former colleagues broke their own rules because the smuggler who brought Ms Begum and two school friends into Syria was also working as a covert source for the agency at the same time. Next week the latest step in Ms Begum’s battle to have her British citizenship reinstated is expected to come to court. The 23-year-old was stripped of her British citizenship in February 2019 when the Home Secretary judged her to be a threat to national security. But Ms Begum’s lawyers are likely to argue that she should have her nationality reinstated because she was a victim of trafficking who was smuggled in by double agent Mohammed al-Rashed. “I think it’s important to repatriate her to the UK as well as making sure that she has the support”, said Ms Mukbil, who has assessed the evidence of the role played by al-Rashed while he was under Canadian direction. “It’s a traumatic experience to be exploited in this way, unfortunately, by a Canadian source and to be trafficked and exploited by Isis fighters” she told ITV News. “I’m not here to change anyone’s view on her but I think serious consideration needs to be given to her age when she was trafficked.” Huda Mukbil says Shamima Begum has gone through a “traumatic experience” and should be allowed to return to the UK.

Tony Gosling writes: Two days of national press coverage were given in August 2016 to the death of London schoolgirl Kadiza Sultana (pictured above), 16, who had travelled to Syria with two friends, reportedly to fight for the Islamic State (IS) group. Labour MP for Bethnal Green and Bow, Rushanara Ali, told BBC Radio 4’s flagship “Today” programme on 12 August that Sultana’s case must prompt a full review of the British government’s anti-radicalisation strategy, called “Prevent”. The allegation in all of the London media coverage of Kadiza and her two friends, Shamima Begum, 15, and Amira Abase, 15, was that the schoolgirls chose to travel to Syria of their own free will after becoming radicalised online. Not a single London journalist, though, asked the burning question: Who got her to Syria? There is no excuse in the internet age for not putting two and two together here because there are several reports from March 2015 quoting a Turkish police report on Syrian national Muhammad al-Rasheed, who says he met the girls after their flight from London Gatwick airport to Istanbul and took them to the Syrian border. He was subsequently arrested by Turkish police and gave them a full statement about who he had been smuggling and, more importantly, who he had been working for.

He described what happened in a new documentary that aired on Newsmax TV, I Killed JFK. He says he chose the grassy knoll so he could pretend to be a worker at a nearby rail yard, and come and go without being noticed. Then, as Pres. Kennedy’s motorcade approached, he sprung into action. ‘I was aiming at his right eye. When I pulled the trigger it was almost like looking from six feet away through the scope,’ he explains. ‘As I squeezed his head moved forward. I missed and got it right along the temple, right behind the eye. I squeezed off my round. I hit him and blew his head backward. I fired one shot and one shot only.’ He then walked off with no one noticing, not even the two police officers he claims were standing 25 feet away. He did however leave a trinket, biting down on the shell casing that came from his gun. The documentary claims that casing matches one a young boy and his father found buried in the knoll over 20 years later. At least one former FBI agent, Zack Shelton, believes Files story, including the location from which he shot Pres. Kennedy. ‘I have tried to verify Files’ story. A lot of that story I have been able to verify,’ says Shleton. Five government investigations since the assassination have determined it was Oswald who shot Pres. Kennedy. Files, who has told this story many times before, including in a 2010 interview with Playboy, is currently serving a 50 years sentence following a 1991 conviction for the attempted murder of two police officers during a roadside shootout.

SAS Murder School Of Erasing The Rule Of Law: UK launches probe into claims its troops killed Afghan civilians The United Kingdom has launched an independent inquiry into allegations of unlawful killings by its soldiers in Afghanistan more than a decade ago, the country’s defence ministry announced on Thursday. The statutory inquiry headed by senior judge Charles Haddon-Cave will start early next year. It will probe the alleged wrongdoing by commandos in the elite Special Air Service (SAS) corps spanning a period from mid-2010 to mid-2013. The SAS corps were accused of killing dozens of Afghans in suspicious circumstances, but the military chain of command concealed concerns, the BBC claimed in a report earlier this year. Unarmed Afghan men were routinely shot dead “in cold blood” by SAS troops during night-time raids, and weapons were planted on them to justify the crimes, the broadcaster reported following its own four-year probe. It will also scrutinise the “adequacy” of the response of the Ministry of Defence (MoD) to the concerns raised about soldiers’ conduct and “assess what lessons can be learned”, the ministry said in a statement. “If there are further lessons to learn it is right that we consider those fully to ensure all allegations are handled appropriately and in equal measure,” Defence Secretary Ben Wallace said in a statement. Wallace said the MoD had made “a number of changes” in recent years to deal with serious allegations of wrongdoing, including the creation of a Defence Serious Crime Unit. The BBC’s Panorama programme investigation identified 54 people shot dead in suspicious circumstances by one SAS unit during a six-month tour of Helmand province in southern Afghanistan from November 2010 to May 2011. Senior officers including General Mark Carleton-Smith, who headed UK Special Forces at the time, were aware of concerns within the SAS about the operations but failed to report them to military police, it said.

SUPPLEMENT: James Files’ JFK Assassination notes

On 22nd November, 1963, James Files claims he drove to Fort Worth where he met Johnny Roselli, Jack Ruby and Jim Brading. At the meeting Ruby handed Rosselli an envelope that contained Secret Service identifications and an updated motorcade route map of Dallas. Files and Nicoletti went to Dealey Plaza at about 10 a.m. It was agreed that Files would use his Remington Fireball gun from behind the fence on the Grassy Knoll and that Nicoletti would position himself in the Dal-Tex Building. Files believes that Nicoletti’s bullets hit both John F. Kennedy and Texas governor John Connally. However, Files claimed that his bullet that hit Kennedy in the head. Apparently Files was given $30,000 for his role in the assassination. Files continued to work for Charlie Nicoletti until he was murdered on 29th March, 1977. Files was arrested on 5th August, 1991 and charged with attempting to kill a policeman called David Ostertag. He was sentenced to 30 years in prison and was released from Stateville Prison in Illinois. In 1994 Files told his story to Joe West. After the death of West the project was taken over by Bob Vernon. The story was eventually appeared in a video The Murder of JFK: Confession of an Assassin (1996). A book on the subject, Files on JFK: Interviews with Confessed Assassin James E. Files (2008).

David Phillips (CIA controller)
David Atlee Phillips (October 31, 1922 -€“ July 7, 1988) (Maurice Bishop) was a Central Intelligence Agency officer for 25 years, one of a handful of people to receive the Career Intelligence Medal. He rose to become the CIA’s chief of all operations in the Western hemisphere. In 1975 he founded the Association of Former Intelligence Officers (AFIO), an alumni association comprising intelligence officers from all services.

Charles Nicoletti
Charlie (Chuck) Nicoletti was a leading figure in the Mafia in Chicago. He worked under Tony Accardo and Sam Giancana and got the reputation as an effective contract killer. He was also involved in the CIA plots to overthrow Fidel Castro in Cuba. On 29th March, 1977, Charles Nicoletti was murdered in Chicago. He had been shot three times in the back of the head. George De Mohrenschildt died the same day. Both men were due to appear before the Select House Committee on Assassinations where they were to be asked about their involvement in the assassination of John F. Kennedy.

Johnny Roselli
John Roselli (Filippo Sacco) first became involved in crime when he worked for Al Capone in the 1920s. By the end of the Second World War Roselli had emerged as a senior crime boss in Las Vegas with close links to Meyer Lansky. In 1947 the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) identified him as a leading figure in the Mafia and a close associate of Santos Trafficante. In March I960, President Dwight Eisenhower of the United States approved a Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) plan to overthrow Fidel Castro. The plan involved a budget of $13 million to train ‘a paramilitary force outside Cuba for guerrilla action.’ The strategy was organised by Richard Bissell and Richard Helms. Sidney Gottlieb of the CIA Technical Services Division was asked to come up with proposals that would undermine Castro’s popularity with the Cuban people. Plans included a scheme to spray a television studio in which he was about to appear with an hallucinogenic drug and contaminating his shoes with thallium which they believed would cause the hair in his beard to fall out.

Tony Accardo
Born April 26, 1906, in Chicago, Illinois, to a shoemaker and his wife, Antonino Leonardo Accardo dropped out of grade school and quickly dedicated himself to a life of organized crime. Accardo came to infamy as a hitman for Al Capone who allegedly participated in the Valentine’s Day Massacre. Never convicted of his crimes, Accardo denied any ties to the mob until his death in 1992.

Frank Sturgis
Sturgis was involved in gunrunning to Cuba. On 30th July, 1958, Sturgis was arrested for illegal possession of arms. However, he was released without charge. There is some evidence that in 1959 Sturgis had contact with Lewis McWillie, the manager of the Tropicana Casino.

Theodore (Ted) Shackley
Shackley, whose nickname was the ‘Blond Ghost’ (because he hated to be photographed) became involved in CIA’s Black Operations. This involved a policy that was later to become known as Executive Action (a plan to remove unfriendly foreign leaders from power). This included a coup d’etat that overthrew the Guatemalan government of Jacobo Arbenz in 1954 after he introduced land reforms and nationalized the United Fruit Company.

Sam Giancana
Salvatore ‘Mooney Sam’ Giancana, better known as Sam Giancana, was a Sicilian American mobster, notable for being boss of the Chicago Outfit from 1957-1966 (see book ‘Double Cross’). In 1960 Giancana was involved in talks with Allen W. Dulles, the director of the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), about the possibility of murdering Fidel Castro. It is claimed that during the 1960 presidential election Giancana used his influence in Illinois to help John F. Kennedy defeat Richard Nixon. The two men, at that time, shared the same girlfriend, Judith Campbell Exner. After becoming president John F. Kennedy appointed his brother, Robert Kennedy, as U.S. Attorney General. The two men worked closely together on a wide variety of issues including the attempt to tackle organized crime. One of their prime targets was to get Giancana arrested. On 22nd November, 1963, President Kennedy was assassinated. Rumours began to circulate that Giancana and other gang bosses such as Santos Trafficante, Carlos Marcello, and Johnny Roselli, were involved in the crime.

New coal mine opens in Cumbria to supply coke to make steel.  Is carbon capture cheaper and more carbon neutral than nuclear energy?  Former NUM branch secretary who worked at Hatfield Main Colliery in Doncaster David Douglass, who was a coal miner, on the history of UK coal mining, and carbon capture. U.K. Government Approves First Coal Mine In 30 Years In Cumbria In an environmental volte-face, the U.K. government has announced it will open the first new coal mine in the country in 30 years in Cumbria. On Wednesday, Michael Gove, the Secretary of State at the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities, approved plans to open the Whitehaven coal mine in Cumbria. The Woodhouse Colliery, owned by West Cumbria Mining, will extract coking coal for steelmaking, which ministers say would otherwise be imported. The coal would be from seams under the Irish Sea, historically used to make steel in the U.K. A spokesperson for the Department of Levelling Up, Housing and Communities said Woodhouse would not be used to generate power. Most of the coal produced is expected to be exported to Europe. Planning documents show that more than 80% of the coal the mine will produce annually is forecast to, after five years, go to an export terminal on the east coast. Greenhouse gas emissions from burning coal — such as steel and power plants — are the single most significant contributor to climate change. Critics also argue that demand for coal in steelmaking is declining as the industry moves towards hydrogen. The U.K. Climate Change Committee (CCC), an independent group that advises the government, has estimated that the mine and the coal it will produce will emit around 9 million tons of planet-warming emissions yearly. Gove has accepted that the development will release a ‘small’ amount of greenhouse gases. However, the government thinks it is enough to offset this ‘through purchasing recognized Gold Standard or equivalent offsets.’ Strictly Opposed The decision to approve the mine has drawn a stream of protests from scientists, environmentalists and even several leading Conservatives. For instance, Alok Sharma, the former Secretary of State for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy, and President of COP 26, the Glasgow summit on climate change last year, has been critically vocal about the proposal. While the pro-mine lobby argues that the impact on local employment will be positive, the mine will employ just over 500 workers when it reaches peak production after five years, with more than 80% expected to work underground in coal production. Sharma argued that investing in green energy technology would create more local jobs. Paul Elkins, Professor of Resources and Environmental Policy at the UCL Institute for Sustainable Resources, said the mine did not make sense environmentally or economically. “Approving it also trashes the U.K.’s reputation as a global leader on climate action and opens it up to well-justified charges of hypocrisy – telling other countries to ditch coal while not doing so itself,” he said. The chair of Britain’s independent Climate Change Committee, John Gummer, a former Conservative Party chairman, criticized the approval of the Woodhouse project. “Phasing out coal use is the clearest requirement of the global effort towards Net Zero … This decision grows global emissions,” he said in a statement. A lighter shade of green? Little more than a year since hosting the COP26 summit in Glasgow, the U.K. government’s commitment to climate efforts has come under scrutiny amid concerns from campaigners that Sunak is less committed to the COP agenda than his predecessors. POLITICO has reported that the U.K. had missed the deadline for paying more than $300mn to two critical U.N. climate funds for developing countries. At COP 26, the U.K. government argued that heavily polluting fossil fuel production must end. Britain has passed laws requiring it to bring all greenhouse gas emissions to net zero by 2050. West Cumbria Mining is an Australian-owned company. A statement on the company’s website says the site is under maintenance. Not All Cream Teas Whitehaven, where the mine will be, has a long history of coal mining, referred to as early as the 13th century, with 70 pits sunk in the area. Once one of the busiest ports for ships sailing to the American colonies, Whitehaven became a centre for chemicals and steel. The primary industry nearby is the Sellafield Nuclear Plant, the largest local employer.

BBC Yesterday in Parliament – Grant Schnapps on approval for Sizewell C and joys of EPR nuclear power.  Roy Pumphrey, from Stop Hinkley, on the goalpost-shifting and extortionate cost of nuclear energy, Hinkley C, and Sizewell C. The EPR (European Pressurised Reactor) is a third generation pressurised water reactor designed and developed mainly by Framatome and Électricité de France (EDF) in France, and Siemens in Germany. Britain’s flagship Hinkley Point C nuclear power station is facing the risk of an 11-year delay, piling further pressure on efforts to keep the lights on. According to a new contract between the Government and French company EDF, Hinkley will still be funded even if it does not start operating until 2036 – more than a decade after its initial deadline in 2025. It raises the prospect of significant further hold-ups at Hinkley, which has already been delayed until mid-2027. The change to the subsidy contract terms comes as the Government is paying China a reported £100m to exit its involvement in a second planned new nuclear project, Sizewell C in Suffolk, which is also being developed with EDF. The Government confirmed on Tuesday that CGN will exit Sizewell C, with the state paying an unconfirmed sum to cover its 20pc shareholding and a commercial return. The Times reported this to be £100m. CGN’s involvement with Hinkley Point C is believed to be unaffected. However, as part of the negotiations, Hinkley Point C now has more leeway than previously to get up and running. The project has a deal with the Government under which it gets a guaranteed £92.50 per megawatt hour for its electricity for the first 35 years of its life, backed by a levy on consumer bills. When the project was first agreed in 2016, it was due to start generating at the end of 2025. In January 2021, that was pushed back to June 2026, and in May 2022 it was pushed back again to 2027, with EDF blaming the pandemic and supply chain issues. Costs are now expected to be as high as £26bn. The plant is using a new type of generating technology, EPR, which is so far only in commercial operation in Taishan, China, where one reactor has been shut down due to problems.

Different contract periods also trade at different prices such as within day, day ahead and month ahead. Why are gas prices going up in UK The simple reason is that demand is increasing again as the economy rebounds from the pandemic, and we have a shortfall of gas supplies as we rely heavily on imported gas in the UK. Day ahead gas prices track the real time market events and as such tend to be more reflective of the actual true market conditions. These markets are exposed to immediate market events such as an outage or maintenance issues or supply and demand fundamentals. This time of year the weather also plays an important part for ovbious reasons, if its cold we are more likely to see an increase in demand.

The MPs, who represent Greater London consituencies, said the extension of the £12.50-a-day charging zone to their areas in August 2023, would also hit businesses. The mayor’s decision – which he described as one of the most difficult of his political career – means 15 per cent of vehicles registered in the new outer London zone, about 200,000 at present, will be liable for the levy. But an estimated five million Londoners will breathe cleaner air, according to City Hall, due to the likely impact of a city-wide zone further accelerating the switch to cleaner vehicles in the suburbs. Mr Khan said he had decided to expand the zone across all 33 boroughs – from August 29 next year as planned – to tackle the “triple challenges” of air pollution, climate change and congestion. However, the decision has triggered a furious response from Conservative MPs representing constituencies in Greater London. Chipping Barnet MP Theresa Villiers said: “I have long said the Mayor should tackle air quality problems by cleaning up the TfL bus fleet, and by focusing on individual pollution hotspots, rather than with a punitive charge on motorists and businesses who are already struggling. “Time and again my constituents have contacted me, worried about ULEZ, especially the elderly, van drivers and young families who rely on their vehicles and do not know how they will pay this charge. “It is very harsh of the Mayor to impose this new tax on the suburbs at a time when so many people are worried about inflation and rising household bills.” “Small businesses reliant on van transport will be especially badly hit,” she explained. “For businesses transporting goods and equipment, public transport simply is not a viable option and buying a new vehicle could be very costly. “This is the wrong scheme at the wrong time. It will disproportionately affect those who can ill afford to pay this sum. It will have a negative impact on economic activity and help drive up inflation.” MP for Sutton and Cheam Paul Scully claimed Sadiq Khan had ignored the results of his own consultation. He said: “The Mayor consulted saying if there was ‘overwhelming opposition’ he wouldn’t extend ULEZ. Well 70% of outer Londoners din’t want it; 80% of business owners in outer London don’t want it woth the same level of opposition among people working in outer London.” Meanwhile Orpington MP Gareth Bacon said: “Sadiq Khan’s decsion to expand ULEZ across Greater London in august 2023 is appalling. TfL’s estimates say it will have little or no impact on air quality in outer London. But it will cost drivers who use their car every day up to £4,500 a year. Londoners can’t afford it.” Elliot Colburn MP tweeted: “It is a disgrace that the Labour Mayor of London has today abbounced that the ULEZ will be expanded to the whole of London, including (my constituency) Carshalton and Wallington.” Mr Khan admitted the consultation saw a backlash against the expansion. About 60 per cent of respondents are thought to have been opposed. “More people were against the expansion than were for it,” he said. “But I have been quite clear: this was a consultation not a referendum.” There will be greater mitigating elements than under the previous expansion – a £110m scrappage scheme, additional buses in the suburbs and a “grace period” until October 2.

Paul Mobbs …..   ‘George Monbiot’s Multi-Level Marketing of Ecomodernism’ – The Meta-Blog- no.24 –  His columns in The Guardian are sparsely sourced, and sometimes factually flawed. My last ‘public’ deconstruction36 of one of his columns was published in May 2020 – when he attacked the then recently released film, ‘Planet of the Humans’37. At the time I published a short blog post, which had been extracted from a twenty page complaint (with forty references, mostly to academic journals and official data sources) which I wrote to The Guardian’s ‘Reader’s Editor’38. I never received an acknowledgement… despite sending it twice! Critical of Michael Moore, the structural flaw in that article was the fallacy of ‘affirming the consequent’39: It suggested that as right-wing climate deniers liked Michael Moore’s new film; then the position that Moore depicted must be friendly to climate denial too. In reality, many ‘anti-greens’ didn’t like40 the film’s message. The reason they talked-up the film was precisely because its message made liberal environmentalists feel uncomfortable. The article attacked the film’s assertion that photovoltaic (PV) panels produce little energy once the manufacturing costs41 are considered – stating that, “On average, a solar panel generates 26 units of solar energy for every unit of fossil energy required to build and install it”. It would appear he hadn’t read his source42, which stated those statistics could not be quoted in that context because it would under-estimate the impacts of PV by 30% to 250%. In that paragraph he also attacks the film-makers statement that, “You use more fossil fuels to do this than you’re getting benefit from it. You would have been better off just burning fossil fuels in the first place.” That quote has been taken out of context. That statement is not about solar PV, or wind power; it’s about the gas-fired Ivanpah Solar Array45 – a wholly different type of technology to PV. Analysis of electricity generation in USA from my May 2020 blog post36: The statistics from the USA43 demonstrate that the scenario shown in the film is correct.

The article then goes on to state, “Planet of the Humans also claims that you can’t reduce fossil fuel use through renewable energy: coal is instead being replaced by gas.” Unfortunately that is precisely what the official energy statistics in the USA show is happening (see graph, right). From 2010 to 2019, as old coal-fired plants were retired, they were replaced with new, larger gas-fired plants using the large quantities of fracked natural gas being produced at that time. There is also academic research46 to back-up the point made in the film. 46. Energy Research & Social Science: ‘Energy transitions or additions? – Why a transition from fossil fuels requires more than the growth of renewable energy’, vol.51 pp.40-43, May 2019 The article then goes on to state that, “in the third quarter of 2019, renewables in the UK generated more electricity than coal, oil and gas plants put together. As a result of the switch to renewables in this country, the amount of fossil fuel used for power generation has halved since 2010.” That statement is a manipulation of objective fact: The ‘third-quarter’ is late Summer, when power demand is at its lowest and solar hits maximum. It’s not representative of average demand and supply. Analysis of electricity generation in UK from my May 2020 blog post36: The statistics from the UK44 show the percentage growth of renewable power is more influenced by the collapse in electricity demand rather than the increase in renewable generation capacity. More significantly though, what’s been dominating energy trends in Britain has been the collapse of electricity demand (see graph, right). That is in part the result of austerity choking growth, and especially heavy industries, such as metals and chemicals, moving off-shore. Those effects are far more significant than new renewable capacity in cutting fossil fuel use – but that doesn’t even merit a mention.

Speaking to Russia’s Izvestia media outlet on Wednesday, Schmidt pointed out that the vast majority of the suspects are in their 60s or even 70s. He noted that the elite troops who officials say were part of the conspiracy had served before 1990, when the German Democratic Republic was still around, and added that these soldiers are “long past their prime.” With this in mind, the lawmaker argued, the official position that these individuals had been planning to storm the German parliament sounds downright “absurd” and “ludicrous.” According to Schmidt, the entire case is merely an attempt by the German government to create a furor in the media that would eclipse “catastrophic problems in the German economy.” He stressed that, amid the worsening energy crisis and with deteriorating weather, many Germans “have no means to pay [the bills]” because they “receive fairly modest salaries.” The MP also cited energy prices that are up to five times higher than last year. He went on to say that ever more people are starting to ask themselves “who’s to blame?” Bearing the responsibility for the current situation, the MP proposed, is the “incompetent government.” “So, now, right before our eyes, a media provocation is being concocted with the sole purpose of diverting [the people’s] attention from their everyday problems,” the AfD politician concluded. The fugitive Azov fighter, Anton Radomsky, is a Ukrainian citizen who has lived in Italy but is currently fighting on behalf of the Ukrainian armed forces. Authorities say Radomsky planned to attack the “Volcano Buono” shopping mall in Naples. In a January 2021 wiretap, Testa said he “would make a massacre like the one in New Zealand, but I wouldn’t go to the blacks, I would go to the barracks in Marigliano.” He was referring to the New Zealand mosque shooter who claimed to have visited Ukraine and wore a Nazi Sonnenrad, or “black sun” patch on his flak jacket as he slew 51 worshippers. The symbol, as the New York Times noted in 2019, is “commonly used by the Azov Battalion, a Ukrainian neo-Nazi paramilitary organization.” In February 2021, Testa ranted over the phone, stating “Like [racist Christchurch mass shooter] Tarrant… tututututu. In the Marigliano barracks. Boom boom, I killed them all.” Around the same time, police monitoring the Order of Hagal organization seized ”soft air weapons” that could be “easily modified to fire authentic bullets,” ammunition, tactical gear, and even a grenade launcher. The group is also accused of conducting paramilitary trainings in Naples and Caserta as well as seminars promoting white supremacy and Holocaust denial. Footage of the arrests broadcast by the news channel Sky Tg24 shows long knives, a Nordic-style axe, a bat emblazoned with the words “Leader Mussolini,” a swastika flag, a gas mask, an Azov Battalion t-shirt and “Valhalla Express,” a memoir by an Azov fighter. But Ukraine is not the only country to have been visited by members of the Order of Hagal; “some members” also traveled to Israel to train in Krav Maga and the use of long and short weapons,” according to police officials. In fact, they were even given diplomas for completing the training. The police operation spanned thirteen provinces in Italy and has included “26 personal, home and computer searches,” according to the police press release announcing the arrests. Among those arrested for “the crime of association with the purpose of terrorism or subversion of the democratic order” are Maurizio Ammendola, the founder of the group, its vice president Michele Rinaldi, and members Giampiero Testa and Massimiliano Mariano. The fifth arrested member, Fabio Colarossi, is accused of spreading neo-Nazi propaganda.

She said the resolution to war will not be achieved by sending missiles and tanks to Ukraine but that the EU needs to say “enough bloodshed” and hold serious peace talks. Speaking on RTÉ’s This Week, she added that part of those talks would be recognition that “Russia has genuine security concerns in the region”. “Unless we go to that place, unfortunately the Ukrainians are going to be the losers in it,” she said. Ms Daly said she was representing the “mandate that war and militarism is not a solution to any conflict” when she voted against a resolution condemning the war in Ukraine as “illegal, unprovoked and unjustified military aggression” by Russia. She said her voting record shows that she condemned the “Russian illegal invasion of Ukraine” but she opposed the increase of arms being sent into Ukraine and the acceleration of NATO involvement and military expenditure.

Scott Ritter on Ukraine/ Russia war. – Scott Ritter December 3: Russia has done a good job – Russia started September with pretty much the same force structure that it brought in when it invaded in February, and what had happened is Russia pretty much had insufficient resources to the task they had set forth for themself. They had many parts of the defensive line that were stretched thin, and the Ukrainians were able to exploit this. And the Russians wisely, I believe, traded territory for lives. Now the Russians aren’t in the business of just throwing away Russian lives, and so they weren’t going to hold on to a strong point and defend it to the last man. They were more than happy to withdraw, trade territory, save lives, consolidate their defensive positions, all the while inflicting what should have been prohibitive casualties on the Ukrainians, tens of thousands of losses. Meanwhile, while Russia is consolidating their lines, they’re reinforcing. Vladimir Putin ordered the partial mobilization, 300,000 reservists have been called up, 87,000 of them are currently deployed into the special military operations zone, the rest are finalizing their organization into fresh combat units, which will give the Russians tremendous flexibility and operational capacity. So as Ukraine is shrinking its combat capability, Russia is increasing its combat capability. And then we take a look at the strategic aspects of this conflict. I think the West made a mistake in misinterpreting Russia’s soft approach to the special military operation, going in with fewer numbers than many people thought was necessary, and going in softer, not doctrinally, not using overwhelming firepower, not rolling through, in effect, trying to reduce civilian casualties and damage to civilian infrastructure. While the reduction of civilian casualties continues to be an objective of Russia, the day and age of saying, we don’t want to harm civilian infrastructure, is over. Russia has taken the gloves off and has shown that it can close down Ukraine as a modern nation state anytime it wants to. It’s degraded their electrical grid, their power grid. Ukraine has rolling blackouts, and the Russians are taking it easy. Russia could easily shut everything down, but they’re not, they’re making a point right now that they can do this damage. Meanwhile, Russia is dysfunctioning as it is, and then we take it out a step further because it’s not just Ukraine that’s suffering. You see, the West thought they were going to A, deter Russian aggression and B, compel Russia to stop its aggression by imposing massive economic sanctions, I think that’s the word that was used, unprecedented economic sanctions. I mean, we were told there were masterful economists, experts in energy security that had solved the issue of how to shut down this gas station disguised as a nation. All we have to do is cut off their gas, their energy, and they’re going to shrivel up and go away. Russia proves that the gas station actually knows more about global energy security than the West does. They flipped the script. Russia’s not the nation suffering, Europe is suffering, the entire continent is suffering. America’s suffering. What people are talking about, we have a couple weeks left of diesel fuel. I don’t think people comprehend what that means, when we run out of diesel fuel or we get such a shortage that the prices go through the roof. Because diesel powers the trucks that make the supply line work, that bring food to our stores at a reasonable price. And you start jacking up the price of the cost of transportation, it will be transferred to the consumer. And if you eliminate diesel potential to where transportation is frozen, nothing makes it to market. Russia doesn’t have this problem. So they’ve won that battle, too. So across the board, from the big picture strategic aspect of the West supporting Ukraine to Ukraine’s ability to sustain the conflict, but what’s happening on the battlefield, it’s advantage Russia, advantage Russia, advantage Russia, advantage Russia. Russia’s winning this war. Call it controversial, but that’s my take.

US, Russia Agree to Swap Britney Griner for Viktor Bout In a joint statement, Saudi Arabia and the UAE said the swap was brokered by Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and UAE President Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed, but the White House denied the claim. “The only countries that negotiated this deal were the United States and Russia,” said White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre. Griner and Bout were exchanged at the Abu Dhabi airport in the UAE, and Jean-Pierre thanked the UAE for allowing its territory to be used for the swap. She also thanked Saudi Arabia for raising the issue of detained Americans with Russia but insisted the countries didn’t mediate the deal. Biden has come under criticism for the deal because he failed to secure the release of Paul Whelan, a former US Marine. Whelan was arrested on spying charges in Moscow in 2018 with a USB that contained classified information and was handed a 16-year sentence in 2020. Whelan maintains his innocence and says the USB was planted on him. When the Bout swap was initially discussed by Biden officials, Whelan was expected to be freed along with Griner, but the administration couldn’t secure both releases. “We’ve not forgotten about Paul Whelan,” Biden said Thursday. “We will keep negotiating in good faith for Paul’s release.” The deal is the first diplomatic breakthrough between the US and Russia since the Russian invasion of Ukraine in February, although Biden administration officials have made clear that the prisoner swap is an entirely separate issue from the war. Secretary of State Antony Blinken has only held one known phone call with his Russian counterpart, Sergey Lavrov, since February, and the discussion was focused on the prisoner swap, not the war.

Even the U.S. government is using it. The most sophisticated spyware tools ­ like NSO’s Pegasus ­ have “zero-click” technology, meaning they can stealthily and remotely extract everything from a target’s mobile phone, without the user having to click on a malicious link to give Pegasus remote access. They can also turn the mobile phone into a tracking and secret recording device, allowing the phone to spy on its owner. But hacking tools without zero-click capability, which are considerably cheaper, also have a significant market. Commercial spyware has been used by intelligence services and police forces to hack phones used by drug networks and terrorist groups. But it has also been abused by numerous authoritarian regimes and democracies to spy on political opponents and journalists. This has led governments to a sometimes tortured rationale for their use ­ including an emerging White House position that the justification for using these powerful weapons depends in part on who is using them and against whom. The Biden administration is trying to impose some degree of order to the global chaos, but in this environment, the United States has played both arsonist and firefighter. Besides the D.E.A.’s use of spyware ­ in this case, a tool called Graphite, made by the Israeli firm Paragon ­ the C.I.A. during the Trump administration purchased Pegasus for the government of Djibouti, which used the hacking tool for at least a year. And F.B.I. officials made a push in late 2020 and the first half of 2021 to deploy Pegasus in their own criminal investigations before the bureau ultimately abandoned the idea. In a statement to The Times, the Drug Enforcement Administration said that “the men and women of the D.E.A. are using every lawful investigative tool available to pursue the foreign-based cartels and individuals operating around the world responsible for the drug-poisoning deaths of 107,622 Americans last year.”

For others, however, it was the decade that saw a rise in Devil worshippers. In collecting its data on religion, among the most surprising findings of the 2021 census include the rapid rise of Satanism. The number of people in England and Wales identifying as Satanists saw a 167 per cent increase between 2011 and 2021. The Office for National Statistics (ONS) researchers found that within that ten-year period, the number of Satanists rose from 1,893 to 5,054. Satanism is a religious, or counter-cultural practice, centred on the figure of Satan, otherwise known as the Devil. In Christianity and Judaism, the figure is seen as the embodiment of absolute evil. Historically, Satanism, which is also known as devil worship, rejects Satan’s antithesis – God and/or Jesus Christ. The reason for the rise of Satanism remains unclear. However, it does correlate with separate ONS data published last year which clearly indicated that a reverence for the Devil was on the rise. Last year, the ONS released baby name data which revealed that the name, Nigel, was on the verge of extinction, with no baby Nigels born in 2020 (or, statistically, two at most). This is arguably not that surprising, as more old-fashioned names often wane in popularity. There were, however, in that same year, a total of 15 Lucifers born that year. Lucifer – In 2021, a further 15 babies were christened Lucifer – a name which didn’t appear in the rankings until 2016. The figures should, however, be taken with a very large pinch of salt. In the 2011 census, 177,000 people declared themselves Jedi under the religion section, making it the seventh most popular religion. A further 6,242 people answered Heavy Metal for their religion, and 650 said they were New Age. Many of these will now come under the ‘other’ section offered to respondents in the census. For those filling in forms for the 2021 census, Jedi Knights were left disappointed as this was no longer a separate option. The 2021 census also revealed a rise in the number of Pagans up from 56,620 to 73,733 – as well as a rise in the number of Animists – who believe that all natural things have a soul. They increased from just 541 in 2011 to 802 in 2021. In contrast, the number of people practising witchcraft in England and Wales is in decline. That community saw its population fall from 1,276 to 1,045 over the ten-year period. Scientologists also saw a similar level of decline (2,418 to 1,859) and members of the Occult fell from 502 to 490.

It took me a few days to watch the entire 5 hours, and when I finished earlier today, I told my friend who recommended the video to me: “My life will never be the same after watching this. I will not sleep tonight until I publish this (on Health Impact News).” You will be able to better understand why people can be so evil, and invent things like the bioweapon COVID-19 shots that are designed to kill off a significant portion of the world’s population. It is well worth the 5 hours of investment in your time, I guarantee. If I were to produce something like this, if even I could with knowledge of where to find these resources to look up and gather the information, which I do NOT have, I would guess that it would take me more than 1000 hours to present something like this. And I have no doubt that the final product that is just over 5 hours was probably significantly edited by Altiyan Childs to make it even this short. LIVE GUEST Ruth Nestor explains how she was evicted unfairly from her home, and now political protestors have moved in to stop the bailiffs taking her belongings.  Activists from Bristol Housing Action Movement (BHAM) have occupied a house in Easton, Bristol, that had previously been under the control of Richard Long and Co Insolvency Practitioners and The National Eviction Team. With the rising cost of living, the ongoing impact of a global pandemic, and numerous economic shocks, the last few years have been hard on all working class people. Ruth and her family have been hit even harder than most. Last month Ruth was dragged naked from her bed, and evicted from her own home. Forced to watch on as baliffs from the National Eviction Team trashed and boarded up her home, without any idea where she – or who two children who were at school – would stay that night. Ruth was clear with us that the ultimate responsibility for her plight rests with Bristol City Council. She has been attempting to resolve a financial dispute with them for over a decade, making numerous payments to them as well as keeping up with her private mortgage. At some point it appears Bristol City Council stopped trying to reach an agreement and instead sold her debt to a private company. This company bought it with the aim of kicking Ruth’s family out of their home so they could sell it for what must be a massive profit. However this is not a family – or city- that will take this kind of thing lying down. The intial eviction attracted (a sadly failed) attempt at resitance from the local community and the ACORN union, who had been aiding her attempts to finally resove the issues with Bristol City Council, and had gathered to resist baliffs last year. This time it was Bristol Housing Action Movement (BHAM) who stepped up. BHAM is a group of squatters, homeless people, and housing activists has been active in the city since 1984, and often been the reason for a roof over someones head. On Saturday 26th of Novemeber BHAM, together with supporters from the local anarchist and squatting movements, entered Ruth’s former (and future!) home at 54 Robertson Road. Neighbours, friends of Ruth, and of course Ruth her herself arrived soon after – to see what was going on, and ultimately support the action. The first task those inside attempted was rescuing the familys possessions, as there had been no opportunity given no to take anything from the house. Since Ruth has a damaged spine (something certainly not helped by being dragged down stairs by baliffs) top of the list was her medical devices and medication, and next was the possessions belonging to her children. However, once they were shown the state of the inside of the house, hope turned to anger and dismay.

MOST REGRESSIVE: KILLER COUNCIL TAX – PMQs  Rishi Sunak questioned on his privilege, and will he get rid of non-dom status?  PMQs Rishi’s privilege questioned again, and funding for state schools. Council tax ‘set to soar past £2,000 for the first time ever’ Council tax is set to surpass £2,000 for the very first time in England under Tory plans already branded as ‘regressive’. Jeremy Hunt is expected to scrap much of what his predecessor Kwasi Kwarteng announced in his disastrous mini-Budget on September 23. On Thursday, the new chancellor will unveil his Autumn Statement on government tax and spending plans, with social campaigners already fearing the worst. Currently, council tax can only be increased by about 3% without a referendum of residents in the area. According to the Telegraph, Rishi Sunak and Mr Hunt are preparing to allow town halls to put up the levy by 5% without letting locals have the final say. This means millions of households in Band D would face paying up to £100 extra in April 2023. This would take their annual bills above £2,000 for the first time. Meanwhile, homeowners in the most expensive Band H could end up paying as much as £200 extra, with their bills exceeding £4,000. The move would also break a 2019 Conservative Party manifesto pledge, which said the current rate will be kept. Labour MPs have already criticised the plans, arguing that such a raise will do little to help cash-strapped councils. Chris Bryant, MP for Rhondda, said: ‘Raising council tax to pay for social care is madness. ‘It is regressive, big hikes in council tax rates raise relatively little money and authorities in poorer areas with higher costs gain least.’ Bev Craig, leader of Manchester City Council, stressed that since 2010 Manchester has had £428 million cut annually. Over the weekend, Richard Burgon stressed there is ‘no need for a single penny of cuts or tax rises on ordinary people’. ‘When Jeremy Hunt talks of “difficult decisions” he means difficult for you,’ the MP for East Leeds said. ‘He does not mean difficult for the super-rich whose wealth has soared in the last decade. ‘There is no need for a single penny of cuts or tax rises on ordinary people. It is a choice. Tax the rich instead.’ Mr Hunt has already confirmed Liz Truss’s £2,500 energy bill cap, supposed to be in place for two years, will be scrapped in April. This will leave millions of people facing an increase of £900 a year – around £75 more per month.

Presidential election challenges – a partial history The January 6, 2005 challenges to election fraud in the 2004 election resulted in the Joint Session adjourning, with the two houses of Congress retiring to their respective chambers, as provided for under US Constitution. This requires only one objection from each of the two houses (viz., a Senator and a member of the House). Once they are in their own chamber, each house begins a session where a public trial of facts takes place in the form of a debate. This was the House debate on the challenge to Ohio’s electors. This is the process that had just begun on January 6, 2021, with Arizona having been challenged. When the two houses retired to their respective chambers, the Capitol was breached and the sessions were held in suspense for 11 ½ hours, during which time the event was positioned across the media as an insurrection instigated by Trump in an attempted coup d’etat, a clear case of treason. Once that image was painted, it re-colored the entire subsequent proceedings from one of an adversarial nature, to one of a meek, frightened consensus. In the January 6, 2001 Joint Session (for 2000 election), there were a number of objections to the certification of the votes of several states (including Florida) by members of the House, but no Senator would join them. In these cases, the objections were ruled out of order and were not accepted, resulting in certification of those state’s slate of electors and the respective vote(s).

NATO’s Serbia assault set ‘moral’ precedent for Ukraine On the anniversary of NATO’s 1999 bombing of Serbia, the debate on what constitutes ‘justified’ war rumbles on Some military interventions, at least according to mainstream Western narratives, are justified and some are simply illegal. Russia’s ongoing invasion of Ukraine is interpreted almost universally in the West as clear aggression against a sovereign state, while NATO’s bombing of Serbia in 1999 is still viewed in retrospect as morally justifiable. So why does this binary thinking still prevail in the Western public discourse? On March 24, 1999, NATO launched its “justified” aggression on Serbia. At the time, it was widely portrayed as a “humanitarian intervention” prompted by alleged Serbian “ethnic cleansing” of Albanians in Serbia’s southern province of Kosovo. According to the mainstream narrative, thanks to NATO’s “humanitarian bombing” of the Balkan nation, the murderous displacement of Kosovo’s ethnic Albanian population was stopped. In reality, though, the displacement started after NATO launched its airstrikes on Serbia, not before. Moreover, it was Western-backed Albanian guerrillas that initially provoked Serbia’s militarized reaction, while NATO bombing resulted in the death of both Serbian and Albanian civilians. Even though NATO admitted that it “mistakenly” bombed Albanian refugees, its officials did not blink in blaming Serbia for their own actions. To this day, the Serbs remain “bad actors” in the eyes of the West.

Also published in Propaganda in Focus * The UKs Online Safety Bill is set to integrate an Advisory Committee on Disinformation and Misinformation with the Bill. The EUs 2022 Code of Practice on Disinformation is set to become a Code of Conduct within the framework of the Digital Services Act. The EU legislation also refers to the importance of supporting and drawing on fact-checkers. Legislation relating to mis- or disinformation that leads to social media companies further censoring content will make an already bad situation much worse, resulting in ever more frequent suppression of important, legitimate, and potentially correct information. We are living through an era in which freedom of expression is evaporating. Numerous scientists have been censored during Covid-19, having been labelled as spreaders of disinformation or misinformation, whilst we are now seeing the emergence of online safety/harm legislation that might further curtail freedom of speech. But who has been responsible for the lions share of propaganda during Covid-19 and what is the cogency of legislation and doctrines aimed at censoring what is alleged to be misinformation or disinformation? It is now widely reported that, since the start of the Covid-19 event, there has been both extensive propaganda that has increased peoples fear levels, and censorship of oppositional voices. This has occurred via a combination of deliberate censorship, smear campaigns, incentivisation, and coercion. Specific examples have included corporate and NGO sponsorship of mainstream/legacy media, OFCOM guidelines limiting acceptable news content, Big Tech censorship of expert opinion, smear campaigns, and coercion via mandates. As if this were not enough, a recent article in the British Medical Journal advocated for even higher levels of authoritarian control over so-called misinformation or opinions that challenge the narratives promoted by authorities. The article reflects an academic orthodoxy that has become dominant since the beginning of the Covid-19 event. This orthodoxy has promoted the use of behavioural science techniques to immunise the public against alleged conspiracy theories and misinformation to ensure that citizens comply with the directives of governments and the World Health Organisation (WHO). Of course, if it turns out that the Covid-19 orthodoxy was wrong, articles such as Using social and behavioural science to support COVID-19 pandemic responses might end up reading as the longest intellectual suicide notes in history for those academics involved.   

Sizewell C Nuclear Power station gets go-ahead – WORSE than coal, oil, gas – undercover police ‘protester’ shut down coal power plant BBC report on new nuclear power stations – Alison Downes from Stop Sizewell explains why they’re not a good idea – and academic Prof. Michael Fitzpatrick disagrees. Why Stop Sizewell C? EDF is starting to build two huge nuclear reactors on the Suffolk Heritage Coast. The government is expected to decide if Sizewell C will get planning permission in July 2022 and is in negotiations with EDF about how Sizewell C would be paid for. EDF hopes to make a “final investment decision” by mid 2023. Sizewell C is the wrong project in the wrong place and will not help the UK achieve its objectives. Sizewell C is slow – it would take 10-12 years to build, so not generate any power until the mid 2030s. Sizewell C is expensive, expected to cost at least £30+ billion, which could be invested in renewables such as offshore wind or hydrogen storage. Sizewell C takes a lot of carbon to build. Using EDF’s own estimates, it would take around 4 years to pay this back, meaning Sizewell C wouldn’t contribute to net zero until the late 2030s. The government’s latest target is a 78% reduction in CO2 emissions by 2035. The type of reactor EDF wants to build (the EPR) has an appalling track record. The few EPRs under construction are all well over budget and – in France and Finland – a decade late. One of the only operating EPRs in the world, Taishan I in China, was closed for 12 months with fuel failure. After pressure from EDF, the government has passed legislation to make consumers pay for the financing of Sizewell C through a nuclear tax on energy bills (called a RAB model), but nuclear projects are prone to cost and time overruns. It won’t help ‘level up’ the UK. Sites in the north and west would do more to narrow the economic gap. The UK government wants to eject EDF’s controversial partner – China General Nuclear – but has not decided how. Nuclear energy is not green energy. There is as yet no long-term solution for nuclear waste. 

Dr. Judith Curry on how the climate is warming and there is a man made element, but the media reporting is not always accurate.  Cancelled Climatologist Dr Judith Curry – There Is No Climate Emergency – Let me start with a quick summary of what is referred to as the ‘climate crisis:’ Its warming. The warming is caused by us. Warming is dangerous. We need to urgently transition to renewable energy to stop the warming. Once we do that, sea level rise will stop and the weather won’t be so extreme. So what’s wrong with this narrative? In a nutshell, we’ve vastly oversimplified both the problem and its solutions. The complexity, uncertainty, and ambiguity of the existing knowledge about climate change is being kept away from the policy and public debate. The solutions that have been proposed are technologically and politically infeasible on a global scale. Specifically with regards to climate science. The sensitivity of the climate to a doubling of carbon dioxide has a factor of three uncertainty. Climate model predictions of alarming impacts for the 21st century are driven by an emissions scenario, RCP8.5, that is highly implausible. Climate model predictions neglect scenarios of natural climate variability, which dominate regional climate variability on interannual to multidecadal time scales. And finally, emissions reductions will do little to improve the climate of the 21st century; if you believe the climate models, most of the impacts of emissions reductions will be felt in the 22nd century and beyond. Whether or not warming is ‘dangerous‘ is an issue of values, about which science has nothing to say. According to the IPCC, there is not yet evidence of changes in the global frequency or intensity of hurricanes, droughts, floods or wildfires. In the U.S., the states with by far the largest population growth are Florida and Texas, which are warm, southern states. Property along the coast is skyrocketing in value. Personal preference and market value do not yet regard global warming as ‘dangerous.’ Climate change is a grand narrative in which manmade climate change has become the dominant cause of societal problems. Everything that goes wrong reinforces the conviction that that there is only one thing we can do prevent societal problems – stop burning fossil fuels. This grand narrative misleads us to think that if we solve the problem of manmade climate change, then these other problems would also be solved. This belief leads us away from a deeper investigation of the true causes of these problems. The end result is narrowing of the viewpoints and policy options that we are willing to consider in dealing with complex issues such as public health, water resources, weather disasters and national security. 

RIP Rosa Koire. UN Agenda 2030 exposed – Rosa Koire, pioneer of Agenda 21 ‘Sustainable Development’ criticism who died in 2021  …… Rosa Koire was a retired forensic commercial real estate appraiser specializing in eminent domain valuation. Her twenty-eight year career with the California Department of Transportation (District Branch Chief) as an expert witness on land use culminated in exposing the impacts of Sustainable Development on private property rights and individual liberty. In 2005 she was elected to a citizens’ oversight committee in Santa Rosa, Northern California, to review a proposed 1,300 acre redevelopment project in which 10,000 people live and work. Her research into the documents justifying the plans led her, with her partner Kay Tokerud, to challenge the fraudulent basis for the huge Gateways Redevelopment Project. The City, in an attempt to block Koire from exposing the project, removed the neighborhood in which Koire and Tokerud’s properties were located from the redevelopment area. Koire and Tokerud fought on, however, not wanting to abandon the thousands of business and property owners still in the area. They formed a business and property owners association and a non-profit organization (Concerned Citizens of Santa Rosa Against Redevelopment Law Abuse) and were able to raise nearly $500,000 in donations and pro bono legal work to sue the City of Santa Rosa to stop the project. The court case, Tokerud v. City of Santa Rosa, lost in Superior Court but the court ruled that they could continue, and they appealed to the San Francisco First District Court of Appeals where they lost again in 2009. The three years of litigation fighting eminent domain and the redevelopment project succeeded in delaying the project while the economy collapsed–the City has failed to implement its plans, but, if Redevelopment had not been ended in California in 2012, would have had the power of eminent domain over the 1,100 acre area until 2018. Over the course of the legal challenge Rosa Koire became aware of the source of the planning revolution she had observed over more than 10 years: UN Agenda 21. Through her research she found that much of the funding to implement local UN Agenda 21/Sustainable Development land use programs comes through the diversion of property taxes to redevelopment agencies. Her work in providing information and solutions for communities fighting UN Agenda 21 has spread across the nation as more and more people become aware of the increased restrictions on their property rights, and the methods used to implement social engineering. Through her website www.DemocratsAgainstUNAgenda21.com and her grassroots tactical organization, Santa Rosa Neighborhood Coalition, she, with other community leaders, has enabled activists on many seemingly unconnected issues to come together and fight the source: UN Agenda 21/Sustainable Development. In 2010 the non-profit organization she and her partner founded was expanded in scope and renamed The Post Sustainability Institute. Rosa spoke internationally on UN Agenda 21, blogged regularly on the Democrats website, and is the author of BEHIND THE GREEN MASK: UN Agenda 21. 

ITV report on the new Bristol Clean Air Zone (CAZ) – Bristol blue cab drivers warn of fewer accessible taxis as city’s clean air zone begins Many of the blue hackney carriages seen around Bristol will incur a charge in the city’s new clean air zone Blue taxi drivers in Bristol are warning there may be fewer accessible cabs for people with disabilities in the future as the city’s clean air zone comes into effect. The zone is designed to improve air quality in Bristol by charging those driving the most polluting vehicles, with fines of up to £120. It officially came into effect yesterday (29 November) though some temporary exemptions are in place until the end of March to allow people to get prepared. But those driving the city’s blue hackney carriages have warned the zone may lead to fewer accessible taxis as drivers swap their non-compliant wheelchair-friendly cars for smaller, private cars. Mohammad Islam, from the Bristol Blue Licensed Taxi Association, said: “Lots of drivers do the school run for the disabled or the wheelchair users’ children and people will be, especially with the elderly people, people with special needs, people with the wheelchair, they will be in difficulties to find a blue car [sic].” A sign warning that the Bristol Clean Air Zone is coming into eTemporary exemptions are in place until the end of March 2023 to give people time to prepare for the clean air zone Another cabbie, Jante Mohemed, agreed, saying he has seen many of his colleagues swap their blue cars for private hire vehicles. “It’s affected a lot of drivers,” Jante said. “A lot of drivers – they bought a small car. Usually, we’ve got the wheelchair, but no one can afford to buy the wheelchair car, because it must be an electric one. “So, everyone goes to private cars and buys small cars and less Hackneys,” he added.

The British leader, who came to power last month, promises ‘robust pragmatism’ in his first foreign policy speech. UK’s Prime Minister Rishi Sunak came into office last month with the expectation he would initiate a phase of new, stable conditions for his party and the entire country. He must prepare a post-Brexit Britain, as the war on the European continent continues, for the new geopolitical challenges it faces. On Monday evening, he gave his first foreign policy speech that was significant for two reasons in particular. First, Sunak has had no de facto foreign policy profile. Although he has made it clear that he stands by European responsibility and for the defence of liberal values, he did so without outlining a coherent and precise vision for his foreign policy. “The assumption was that he was close to [former Prime Minister Boris] Johnson on foreign policy, so supportive of Ukraine after Russia’s invasion of their nation, supportive of the US-UK special relationship, cautious over China’s influence on the UK,” Victoria Honeyman, an associate professor of British politics at the University of Leeds, told Al Jazeera. “Beyond that, it’s hard to know. Although obviously, there has been discussion about whether Sunak’s ethnicity and the fact that his wife has family and business interests in India might lead to better relations with India.” Second, unlike his immediate predecessors Johnson and Liz Truss, who were foreign ministers before becoming prime ministers, Sunak has no direct experience outside of financial markets on the international stage of geopolitics. However, the lack of experience could also be an advantage.

The latest demonstrations ­ unprecedented in mainland China since President Xi Jinping took power a decade ago ­ began after 10 people were killed in a fire in Urumqi, the capital of the far-western region of Xinjiang, that many of the protesters blame on protracted COVID-19 lockdowns. he deaths have become a lightning rod for frustrations over Beijing’s dogged commitment to zero-COVID and its combination of strict lockdowns, mass testing and tracking that continues to impede people’s lives three years after the first cases of the then-unknown virus were detected in the central city of Wuhan. “I’m here because I love my country, but I don’t love my government … I want to be able to go out freely, but I can’t. Our COVID-19 policy is a game and is not based on science or reality,” protester Shaun Xiao told the Reuters news agency in Shanghai, China’s largest city. Hundreds of people gathered on Sunday evening in the city, holding up blank sheets of paper as an expression of the censorship of protest, as police kept a heavy presence on Wulumuqi Road, named after Urumqi, and where a candlelight vigil on Saturday evolved into a protest. China is ‘fighting a losing battle’ against Zero Covid protesters – Nigel Inkster, MI6, on the health pass and lockdown protests in China. Ex-MI6 director warns Sunak to say ‘necessary minimum’ about China over unrest As Chinese protesters continued to fight against the regime’s “Zero Covid” strategy, Rishi Sunak on Monday spoke of the end of the “golden era” between the United Kingdom and the communist state. China: UK should say the ‘necessary minimum’ says Nigel Inkster It is only the Chinese people that can topple its authoritarian regime, a former MI6 director has claimed, and that reality should encourage Rishi Sunak to say the “necessary minimum” about its leaders. Former MI6 operations and intelligence director Nigel Inkster urged the Prime Minister and his Government to follow the lead of US President Joe Biden in avoiding getting involved in the Chinese protests against the “Zero Covid” strategy, instead suggesting they let the “Chinese people speak for themselves”. Speaking in light of Mr Sunak’s comments on Monday, Mr Inkster warned that Britain must be “careful” not to overplay its hand given how reliant the world and UK economies are on Chinese exports. Mr Inkster said: “Well, I think they would do well to take a leaf out of the US book. The US have been playing this very well. President Biden’s press spokesman, when asked about what President Biden had to say [about the situation in China], replied nothing, the Chinese people are speaking for themselves. “I think, quite honestly at the moment, that is the best thing we could do. There is already a narrative within China gathering momentum. The usual story, hostile foreign forces. “I think the UK would be very well advised to say the necessary minimum and not appear to be getting too closely involved at this stage because, at the end of the day, let’s be honest the Chinese Communist Party will not give a damn what Britain thinks. “So, they will do what they need to do. We do need to be careful. We are not going to change China. If China changes, the change will come from within.” Speaking to dignitaries at the Lord Mayor’s Banquet on Monday night, Rishi Sunak said he “recognised China poses a systemic challenge” to the values of the United Kingdom. In the same breath, however, he admitted western countries could not ignore China’s influence over world affairs and its ability to help with shared challenges such as economic stability and climate change. In his first major speech on foreign relations, he said: “The so-called ‘golden era’ is over, along with the naive idea that trade would lead to social and political reform. “We recognise China poses a systemic challenge to our values and interests, a challenge that grows more acute as it moves towards even greater authoritarianism. Instead of listening to their people’s protests, the Chinese government has chosen to crack down further, including by assaulting a BBC journalist. “The media – and our parliamentarians – must be able to highlight these issues without sanction, including calling out abuses in Xinjiang – and the curtailment of freedom in Hong Kong.” Hundreds of thousands of protesters flooded the streets in major cities across China last week over the reinstatement of the “Zero Covid” lockdown strategy that has kept millions confined to their homes. In rare acts of defiance, protesters demanded Xi Jinping resign as leader despite declaring an unprecedented third term less than a month ago. Footage of desperate citizens fighting Covid officials to remain out of lockdown sparked concern across the West that the Chinese regime was heading further from democracy. But following the weekend’s demonstrations, more Chinese cities eased antivirus restrictions. While some suggest the relative calm shows authorities have heeded the cries of citizens, others have argued the apparent peace is a result of the regime employing furtive methods of cracking down on the protesters, such as arresting them in their homes away from the cameras, and that authoritarianism is now even more prevalent than before.

By Anton Chaitkin – 1944-48: after Nazism, the International Congress on Mental Health – In 1944, with the concentration camps in full swing and Europe burning, Montagu Norman resigned from the Bank of England. He immediately began a new project, ironically related to his own repeated mental breakdowns and hospitalizations. Norman organized the British {{National Association for Mental Health.}} In its formative stages the group was based at Thorpe Lodge, Norman’s London home, where he had met with Nazi Economics Minister Hjalmar Schacht to plan the Hitler regime’s 1930s budgets. Montagu Norman’s Bank of England assistant Otto Niemeyer was made treasurer of the National Association of Mental Health. Niemeyer’s niece, Mary Appleby, became general secretary of the association. She previously worked in the German Section of the British Foreign Office. The president of Norman’s association was to be Richard Austen (“RAB”) Butler. He had been deputy foreign minister to Lord Halifax and the spokesman in the British Parliament for the pro-Nazi policy. The chairman of the association was to be be Lord Halifax’s son-in-law, the Earl of Feversham. The vice chairman was Lord Montagu Norman’s wife, eugenics activist Priscilla Reyntiens Worsthorne Norman. Norman’s British group would soon expand and to take over management of the world psychiatric profession. When the war ended, the exposure and punishment of those responsible for the Nazi barbarities was a rather delicate matter. Dr. Donald Ewen Cameron interrupted his Canadian brain butchery to go help the British Crown’s Tavistock psychological warfare unit evaluate the sanity of Nazi official Rudolph Hess. Cameron’s unique insights into the Nazi mentality had made him a valued part of a secret wartime psychiatric committee in Washington to assess the trends in the Nazi leadership’s thinking. Cameron now testified as an expert at the Nuremberg war crimes trials. His old OSS colleague {{Allen Dulles,}} later the CIA director, was reportedly pleased by Cameron’s suggestion that each surviving German over the age of 12 should be given electroshock treatment to burn out remaining vestiges of Nazism. That part of the Nuremberg Code dealing with scientific research was drafted by Boston psychiatrist Leo Alexander; he soon afterward joined with Auschwitz experimental mastermind Otmar Verschuer in Franz Kallmann’s American Society of Human Genetics. In 1948, Montagu Norman’s National Association for Mental Health gathered the world psychiatric and psychological leaders together at an {{International Congress on Mental Health}} at the United Kingdom’s Ministry of Health in London. At this congress, a {{World Federation for Mental Health}} was formed, to run the planet’s psychological services. Lady Norman, the hostess of the congress, was named to the executive board. Norman picked as president of the World Federation the chief of the British military’s psychological warfare department, Tavistock Institute chief {{Brig. Gen. Dr. John Rawlings Rees.}} In connection with the founding of the World Federation for Mental Health, a New York agent of Montagu Norman named Clarence G. Michalis was made chairman of the board of the Josiah Macy, Jr. Foundation. That foundation, in turn, would pay for much of what the World Federation and Tavistock were to do to the United States­ supplying dope and otherwise subverting western ideals. The Macy Foundation’s chief medical officer, Dr. Frank Fremont- Smith, would be the permanent co-director of the World Federation with J.R. Rees. The technical coordinator of the U.S. delegation to the 1948 congress, Nina Ridenour, later wrote in {Mental Health in the United States: A Fifty Year History,} that “the World Federation for Mental Health … had been created upon the recommendation of the United Nations’ {{World Health Organization}} and {{Unesco}}, because they needed a non-governmental [i.e., not accountable to any check of law or constitution­ed.] mental health organization with which they could cooperate.” Ridenour alluded to the fact that the British psychological warfare executive had itself created the heart of the U.N. apparatus:
