Budget 2024: key points at a glance Rachel Reeves is announcing her financial update – here are the main points, with political analysis National insurance Employees will not pay more directly, Reeves says, but she will raise employers’ national insurance contributions by 1.2 percentage points to 15% from April 2025. The government will also reduce a secondary threshold when contributions are due from £9,100 to £5,000. Those measures will raise £25bn a year by the end of the forecast period, the biggest single tax raising measure in the budget. PW: This is the big fiscal hitter of the budget – £25bn a year by the end of the parliament – and probably the most politically perilous choice Reeves will make. There is no doubt that public services need the extra money, and voters want better public services. But it will be portrayed as tax on jobs, and as something that could hit growth, even with the new allowances for smaller businesses. Income tax Reeves says the government will increase personal tax thresholds on income tax and national insurance in line with inflation from 2028-29, something that had been floated as a possibility. This avoids dragging people into higher tax bands. PW: If not a fully fledged rabbit yanked from a hat, then we do perhaps have a glimpse of a nose and some whiskers. The surprise move allows Reeves to argue she has kept Labour’s manifesto promise to not increase taxes on working people – even if it does only start in 2028/29. Capital gains and inheritance tax Capital gains tax will be increased. The lower rate will be raised from 10% to 18%, and the higher rate from 20% to 24%. There will, however, be no increase on the 18% and 24% capital gains rate imposed on the sale of second homes. The government will extend a freeze on the threshold for inheritance tax to 2030, allowing £325,000 to be inherited tax free. From 2027 inherited pension pots will also be subject to the tax. Reliefs will be reformed for business and agricultural assets. After £1m, those assets will attract inheritance tax of 20%. PW: A rise in capital gains tax was very much baked in with budget expectations, and the increases are not huge. As Reeves says, they will keep UK rates relatively low by international standards. And it will raise a relatively modest £2.5bn by the end of the parliament. On inheritance tax, she has largely closed loopholes connected to farms, but even this and other tweaks will raise an eventual £2bn a year. None of this is likely to be hugely contentious.

Labour’s inheritance tax raid on farmers:  Blistering vow to Rachel Reeves over decision that ‘needs to be reversed’ Mr Anderson said the Labour “raid” on farmers would “decimate” rural communities across Britain. A furious Lee Anderson has vowed to “stand up” for farmers and written to Chancellor Rachel Reeves demanding she “reverse” a decision to bring in inheritance tax on agricultural property. At present farms can be passed on in families 100% free from Inheritance Tax, but from April 2026 only properties valued up to £1million will receive full relief, with those above that value attracting only 50%. Campaigners argue that the sweeping changes to the sector will mean around 30% of the 209,000 farms in Britain will be affected by the new tax changes, meaning farmers who have cared for the land for generations may not be able to pass on their farms to their families. Taking to X, Mr Anderson, Reform UK MP for Ashfield, shared a letter written by his party to the Chancellor alongside the caption: “Reform MPs have written Rachel Reeves about her decision to hammer farmers in the budget. “This decision needs to be reversed and quick. Only Reform will stand up for our farmers.” Sponsored Ms Reeves has tried to defend her decision which appeared to go against promises made by Labour before the General Election. She claimed the new Budget measures would close a loophole for the “wealthiest landowners” making them on a par with “middle-class families”. But in a blistering attack, the letter from the Reform UK party says: “This raid on farmers will decimate rural communities up and down the country. Farming communities are the bedrock of rural areas in the UK, many farmers barely scrape a living farming land, which they often don’t consider an asset which can be sold and hope to pass on to the next generation. “We urge you to reverse your policy and do the right thing for the foundation of our country. Let’s not bite the hand that feeds us.” In December the National Farmers Union (NFU) reported that then Shadow Department for Environment Food and Rural Affairs Steve Reed confirmed the Labour Party had no plans to change inheritance tax including APR (Agricultural Property Relief), if it wins the next election. New data appears to say yes The Treasury’s inheritance tax receipts are at an all-time high just as Brits struggle to put pennies aside more than ever before. Inheritance tax: Expert provides tips on avoiding hefty bill Wealth accumulation may seem like an afterthought for middle-class households as they endure the cost-of-living crisis, but the UK’s vertiginously steep inheritance tax is becoming an increasingly worrying final blow. The tax burden is on course to reach a post-war high, according to the latest forecast by the Office for Budget Responsibility (OBR), partly as a result of Chancellor Jeremy Hunt’s freezing of the personal allowance and basic rate thresholds for the next five years. A similar story is playing out in the realm of inheritance taxes. Everyone benefits from a nil band rate (NRB) of £325,000 – the amount of a person’s estate that can be passed on tax-free – but this threshold will be fixed until 2028 at the level set back in 2009. The average value of property alone, commonly the most valuable asset in a will, has doubled since then, from around £155,000 to just under £300,000, leaving very little room for anything else to be passed on tax-free. The Treasury lays claim to 40 percent of the remaining estate beyond that line – one of the harshest rates in the world. The data show the UK’s inheritance tax policies are less generous than those of almost all its Western counterparts. In 2017, an additional allowance of £100,000 was introduced for those who leave their main home to their direct descendants. This increased by £25,000 a year to reach £175,000 by 2021. This has now also been frozen, albeit only until April 2026. The application of an immediate 40 percent tax rate makes the UK something of an outlier, with most countries opting for an ascending scale according to the value of the estate. In Germany, for example, after an allowance that can go all the way up to €500,000 (£435,000) depending on the relation, the first €75,000 (£65,000) is taxed at just seven percent. Considering an estate worth £400,000 (excluding property) the child of the deceased in the UK would get £370,000. In Germany, they would get £392,250. US citizens are only hit with an estate tax after $12.9million (£10.3million) – an allowance former president Donald Trump doubled back in 2017. An American could pass down a £1million estate including a home tax-free to their next of kin, while a Brit in a similar position would be stuck with a bill of £200,000. Many countries don’t charge any inheritance tax at all, including states likeminded with the UK in many other arenas such as Australia, Canada, and New Zealand.

Van Riper, playing Iraq, WON in ten minutes so he was sacked! It is common for military simulations to test concepts that will inform future personnel, training, and procurement decisions. For example, there was only a 36-hour window during which the live-fire, forced-entry component of the experiment was to occur. The participating forces — including from the 82nd Airborne Division and 1st Marine Regiment — had been called off their normal training schedules, and would only be used in conjunction with the computer-simulated maneuvers during that window. Also, both sides were permitted to reposition their forces at night, during which time neither could initiate attack. But most notably, while the OPFOR was supposed to use only a limited set of military capabilities that it was projected to have in 2007, the blue forces were allowed to have command-and-control relationships, communication networks, and military capabilities that the Pentagon did not plan to field until well beyond 2007, including the airborne laser. The white cell was the architect and manager of the exercise, and also monitored events, assessed the impacts of various actions, and provided feedback to the blue and OPFOR teams. The white cell, led by retired Army Gen. Gary Luck, also had the authority to intervene in order to ensure fair play and to verify that all the concepts were tested under the exercise’s resource and time constraints. At the start of MC ’02, to fulfill the forced-entry requirement, blue issued red an eight-point ultimatum, of which the final point was surrender. Red team leader Van Riper knew his country’s political leadership could not accept this, which he believed would lead the blue forces to directly intervene. Since the George W. Bush administration had recently announced the “preemption doctrine,” Van Riper decided that as soon as a U.S. Navy carrier battle group steamed into the Gulf, he would “preempt the preemptors” and strike first. Once U.S. forces were within range, Van Riper’s forces unleashed a barrage of missiles from ground-based launchers, commercial ships, and planes flying low and without radio communications to reduce their radar signature. Simultaneously, swarms of speedboats loaded with explosives launched kamikaze attacks. The carrier battle group’s Aegis radar system — which tracks and attempts to intercept incoming missiles — was quickly overwhelmed, and 19 U.S. ships were sunk, including the carrier, several cruisers, and five amphibious ships. “The whole thing was over in five, maybe ten minutes,” Van Riper said

Clay Higgins Claims ‘Ghost Buses’ Brought FBI Informants To Washington On Jan. 6 WASHINGTON — Mysterious white buses unloaded dozens of FBI informants near the Capitol on the morning of Jan. 6, according to Rep. Clay Higgins (R-La.). During a hearing with FBI director Christopher Wray on Wednesday, Higgins displayed a picture from inside the Union Station parking garage on Jan. 6 and asked if Wray was familiar with ghost buses. “A ghost bus?” Wray said. “I’m not sure I’ve used that term before.” Higgins, an Army veteran and former police officer, said ghost vehicles are used for “secret purposes.” He pointed to the picture of buses in the garage and noted they were painted “completely white,” as though that were an unusual way for buses to look. “These buses are nefarious in nature and were filled with FBI informants dressed as Trump supporters deployed unto our Capitol on Jan. 6,” Higgins said. “Your day is coming, Mr. Wray.” The ghost buses are the latest distraction from and excuse for the attack on the Capitol by supporters of former President Donald Trump. Higgins and other Republicans have suggested the attack has been used as a pretext for the persecution of Trump and his followers. More than 1,200 people have been arrested and charged with federal crimes for their actions that day, according to the Department of Justice, including more than 400 charged with assaulting or interfering with police. The riot was part of Trump’s unsuccessful effort to nullify his loss in the 2020 presidential election, for which Trump has been charged with multiple felonies. Rep. Barry Loudermilk (R-Ga.), chairman of a House subcommittee investigating alleged deficiencies of Thompson’s investigation, also said he’d never heard of ghost buses. He initially thought a reporter was asking about “Ghostbusters,” the movie franchise. Loudermilk said he believed there were “federal agents” in plain clothes present on Jan. 6 because that’s normal practice for law enforcement during any large political protest. His only question was whether they were present before help had been requested by the Capitol Police and what information had prompted them to attend.

Former licensing officer Tony Roach was fired for gross misconduct in 2015 after an investigation by the force’s professional standards department. Mr Roach, who was responsible for ensuring that pubs and clubs in Cardiff operated in accordance with the conditions included in their licences, says he was kept under surveillance for six months with cameras and microphones, and his personal phone calls intercepted, and his phone records accessed. He says that he was told about the surveillance during a police interview and that the surveillance was given the code name Operation Kansas. Mr Roach said that he was arrested in 2014 on suspicion of misconduct in a public office and that he and his wife Janet were both arrested on suspicion of tax fraud but that this never resulted in criminal charges. He claims that South Wales Police went too far in its surveillance of him and breached his rights…

The UK Was Warned This Counterterrorism Program Was A Disaster — But Rolled It Out Anyway – Revealed: the inside story of how the British government rolled out a dangerously flawed intelligence-sharing system right as the UK suffered one of its deadliest years from terrorism.  Tony Thorne was one of the officers on the Apollo project, advising the team on the task of merging large volumes of data. Thorne, a former counterterrorism officer with the Wales Extremism and Counter Terrorism Unit, said he was shocked by what he saw in Scotland. “We left Scotland with a process that was not complete or adequate in any way,” he said. The key issues highlighted during the test run reemerged right away, according to emails and internal memos from 2014 and 2015 reviewed by BuzzFeed News. Officers described a system that was “crashing routinely” and “timing out after 10 minutes,” with glitches so severe that they dramatically increased “the time required to perform a simple task.” Even basic searches caused trouble. One officer had described how he put in a search term and received a result that was too broad. He started sifting through the documents manually to figure out which ones he actually needed — but as he did so, the system crashed. When he logged back in, he typed in the same search terms and found that “the search result was not the same.” Officers using the new systems also reported serious difficulties with the very problem the NCIA was aiming to solve: communicating with other forces and agencies. After a suspicious person entered the UK by plane, an officer reported that they received an important intelligence report from officers at the airport in an unreadable format. Another told a member of the Apollo team that the NCIA’s inability to share intelligence with the other regions still using the old system was a critical risk that “may lead to intelligence failure.” The quality of intelligence that did make it onto the system was often poor. In some cases, the NCIA was deluged with irrelevant information; in others, vital intelligence did not show up on the NCIA at all. One officer complained that the system “auto ingests” documents that had nothing to do with terrorism. “This issue was something that was always talked about,” the officer wrote, “however now we are live there appears to have been nothing more done about it.” The NCIA was built on the template of an already existing system called the Home Office Large Major Enquiry System, four sources told BuzzFeed News. The problem, one said, is that HOLMES is used to investigate incidents that have already occurred whereas the NCIA is intended to prevent attacks from happening. Another officer told BuzzFeed News that building the NCIA on top of the HOLMES system caused defects that left large amounts of intelligence difficult to find. Officers echoed these concerns in their emails and official reports. One of the key features borrowed from the HOLMES system was a search tool, much like Google, that was supposed to enable officers to quickly retrieve documents containing a certain word, regardless of where on the record the particular word appeared. If it worked, this would make it far easier to find specific intelligence on potential terrorists from hundreds of thousands of files. But the search tool wasn’t working. Officers found that if they put in the same search term on multiple occasions, they would often get a different result each time. The search tool also wasn’t able to scan for dates of birth, making it much harder to pinpoint the right document. This shortcoming dovetailed with another major problem. Early on, it became clear that many duplicated records would make their way onto the NCIA — since it was compiling data from multiple forces that often possessed the same file on a given individual. One internal report seen by BuzzFeed News acknowledges that this would cause a “knock on” effect that hampered analysts. But higher-ups ultimately decided that “no de-duplication would occur” until the entire UK was using the NCIA. One Manchester-based officer who later started using the NCIA told BuzzFeed News that duplications made finding what you were looking for like “trying to find a needle in a haystack” — such a struggle that “you could miss vital intelligence leads.” Thorne, the counterterror detective who worked on the NCIA, was growing increasingly concerned. “Unfortunately,” he wrote to colleagues in a February 2014 email, “as we are all fully aware the NCIA has struggled to deliver what was promised and has not been fit for purpose.” The rollout of the NCIA pressed ahead….

The social media platform accounting for half of online child grooming cases Police data shows a record 7,064 offences in 2023 and Snapchat accounted for 48 per cent of cases where a platform was recorded Snapchat accounted for up to half of the recorded cases of children groomed online by paedophiles, according to police data. The figures, obtained from police forces by the NSPCC, showed that a record 7,064 offences of “sexual communication with a child” were reported to police last year, up 89 per cent since 2017 and an increase of 11 per cent on the previous year. Of the 1824 offences where the means of communication was recorded, Snapchat, the messaging app, accounted for 48 per cent or 867 of the grooming cases. That compares with fewer than a third (32.9 per cent) in 2021/22 and 20 per cent in 2017. Meta-owned platforms including Instagram, Facebook and WhatAapp accounted for 6 per cent, 10 per cent and 12 per cent respectively. That represents a cumulative 28 per cent, down from a high of 53.6 per cent in 2017. The figures come just days after police exposed the UK’s most prolific “catfish” who ran a “paedophile enterprise” targeting 3,500 children in 30 countries, largely through Snapchat. Alexander McCartney was jailed for life and ordered to serve a minimum of 20 years after posing as a teenage girl to befriend young girls on Snapchat before blackmailing them. Police said the 26-year-old “stole childhoods” and “shocked communities around the world” with his depravity. ‘We need ambitious Ofcom regulation’ Child abuse experts said it believed Snapchat had become a target for paedophiles because of the way it operated, with disappearing messages, the ease with which users including children could be added to groups and the facility to create large communities of people on the platform. “We held a session of young people and asked them what they thought about the safety of Snapchat. The first thing they said was ‘non-existent’,” said an NSPCC source. Girls were predominantly targeted by offenders for online grooming, comprising 81 per cent of the cases in 2023/24 where the gender was known. The youngest victim of online grooming in 2023/24 was a five-year-old boy…

How the Israel lobby fuelled the rise of Britain’s top anti-Muslim chaos agent – David Miller·October 25, 2024 – The riots that gripped the UK this August were heavily inspired by anti-Muslim agitator Tommy Robinson. His rise to prominence is largely the product of the North American Zionist lobby, representing a clear break with traditional far-right British activism. A wave of anti-Muslim and anti-migrant riots which consumed British society in racist violence this August were fomented almost entirely by a self-proclaimed “counter-Jihad” activist who goes by the moniker Tommy Robinson. This October 26, Robinson will return to the public eye in the UK for a provocative action outside Westminster in London protesting his prosecution for defaming a Syrian refugee in a film he produced. The riots he helped inspire from abroad shook Britain for almost a week, triggering attacks on police stations and mosques. Though they did not occur in circumstances chosen by Robinson and his street fighting cohort, they perfectly served the agenda set into motion years before by the Israel lobby elements which sponsored his rise to political prominence. Prominent British leftists have framed the anti-migrant riots led by Robinson as a “classic fascist mobilization,” painting them as an entirely homegrown, organic phenomenon arising from a reactionary lower middle class. Yet a closer look at the history of those involved demonstrates that the violent rampage reflected a notable break with traditional far-right British activism. This rupture was accomplished through financial backing and political support by an Israel lobby centered largely in Tel Aviv and the United States, which sought to redirect the rage of the downwardly mobile European working class against Muslim immigrants, and in support of Western and Israeli military campaigns. Indeed, the state of Israel’s international lobbying apparatus is deeply implicated in the crusade to assail Muslims across Europe. Outside where her rally took place Saturday, a handful of anti-Israel demonstrators marched and chanted against the vice president. Michigan has one of the largest Arab-American populations in the US and Democratic operatives have long been anxious about the political ramifications of the Israel-Hamas war on the 2024 election there. The Wolverine State saw over 100,000 Democratic primary voters mark themselves as “uncommitted” in a dramatic protest against President Biden earlier this year. Former President Donald Trump has a razor-thin 0.2 percentage point edge in Michigan, per the latest RealClearPolitics aggregate. Michigan has 15 Electoral College votes.

I will rescue every city and town that has been invaded and conquered, and we will put these vicious criminals in jail.’ Trump also said that becoming president comes with ‘a hell of a shot at dying’. ‘I never knew that when I ran. I never thought about it, but here we are,’ he said. ‘And I’m OK with it. And I would rather be here than any place in the world. It’s called a very dangerous profession. But if we win, our enemies won’t be laughing anymore.’ Trump complimented Elon Musk for his ‘dark MAGA’ hat that has been popular with fans, and said that his youngest son Barron Trump was at home watching and is ‘the king of the internet’ for advising him on podcast interviews. The former president concluded that New York ’embodies the spirit, energy and potential of the American people’ and that ‘it would be such an honor to win New York, hasn’t been done in decades’. He ended the rally waving at the crowd alongside Melania with a singer performing a rendition of Frank Sinatra’s New York, New York. Manhattan resident Lea Pi, 71, left the arena calling it ‘the best day I’ve ever had’. ‘It was the most exciting event. The Duchy of Lancaster is the estate held by the British sovereign, King Charles, whilst Prince William’s estate is called the Duchy of Cornwall. Together, the two portfolios hold a total of more than 5,400 leases. They are exempt from business taxes and used to fund the royals’ lifestyles and philanthropic work. According to the Dispatches report – called ‘The King, The Prince and Their Secret Millions’ – the private estates have received millions of pounds of income from contracts with public bodies and charities. This includes one 15-year deal which will see Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS hospital trust in London pay £11.4m to store its fleet of electric ambulances in a warehouse owned by the Duchy of Lancaster.

Dame Margaret Hodge told the BBC on Sunday the findings have raised “serious question marks” and has called for a “full and transparent review” of both duchies. A spokesperson for the Duchy of Lancaster, the private estate of King Charles, said it “complies with all relevant UK legislation and regulatory standards applicable to its range of business activities”. Over the past year, deals made by the Duchies of Lancaster and Cornwall have raised around £50 million, it has been claimed. The Duchy of Lancaster, established in 1399, and Prince William’s Duchy of Cornwall, established in 1337, both hold large amounts of land and commercial property in England and Wales. Their contracts with public bodies are said to include a £37.5 million agreement between the Duchy of Cornwall and the Ministry of Justice to lease Dartmoor Prison, and a £11.4 million deal between Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Trust and the Duchy of Lancaster to rent a London warehouse over 15 years to store ambulances.

Moldovans have narrowly chosen “yes” in a referendum to secure the country’s membership of the European Union (EU), say the electoral authorities, in a vote marred by allegations of Russian meddling amid the war in neighbouring Ukraine. With nearly all votes counted on Monday, the “yes” vote was slightly ahead at 50.39 percent, while the “no” camp – long ahead since the start of counting – stood at 49.61 percent, according to results published by the election commission. Meanwhile, an EU spokesperson said Moldova’s referendum on joining the EU happened with “unprecedented interference” by Russia or its proxies. “Moldova was facing really unprecedented intimidation and foreign interference by Russia and its proxies ahead of this vote,” the spokesperson said. The referendum came as President Maia Sandu, also running for re-election, blamed an “unprecedented assault on our country’s freedom and democracy”. Hours earlier, partial results had shown between 55 to 57 percent unwilling to commit to joining the EU. Analysts said ballots from the largely pro-EU diaspora were counted towards the end, giving the “yes” campaign a last-moment push.

State Department Threatens Georgia With ‘Consequences,’ Amid Rigged Election Claims Despite billions spent trying to overturn the Georgian government The State Department and the European Union are demanding Tbilisi repeal “anti-democratic” legislation and investigate election “irregularities” respectively after the Georgian Dream Party won this weekend’s parliamentary elections. Georgian leaders including Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze and President Salome Zourabichvili are at odds, with Zourabichvili accusing Kobakhidze’s party of winning a “total fraud” election. Per the official tally, Georgian Dream won 54% of the vote, with multiple opposition parties earning between 3-11%. Georgian Dream will form the country’s next government as they now hold a minimum of 90 out of the national parliament’s 150 seats. However, four opposition parties which favor integration with the EU are refusing to participate in the new legislature, deeming the election stolen, and accusing the ruling party of pushing Georgia towards a pro-Russia direction. President Zourabichvili called for protests and vowed she will not recognize the plebiscite’s results. Tens of thousands of Georgians protested for hours outside parliament on Monday night, the demonstrations reportedly ended with no plans for further action but dispersed peacefully. The Georgian government and electoral commission have dubbed the election free and fair. State Department Spokesman Matthew Miller threatened Georgia with “consequences” before adding his demands. Miller characterized the election as having taken place within an “environment shaped by the ruling party’s policies including misuse of public resources, vote buying and voter intimidation.”

It argues the change is necessary because the ultra-wealthy can currently more easily use the spousal exemption to dodge inheritance tax on large assets such as businesses. The Centre for the Analysis of Taxation (CenTax) wrote: “The main aim of the spouse exemption is arguably to ensure that the surviving spouse does not face any material change in their standard of living as a result of inheritance tax due on the first death. “Surviving spouses have the opportunity to engage in further tax planning, for example via gifts to heirs or into trust, meaning that the spouse exemption can be used to circumvent inheritance tax altogether. “Since accrued capital gains are also currently wiped out at death, spouse exemption can result in assets being passed to heirs completely tax-free.” The exemption was introduced in 1972 to ensure widows and widowers were not faced with huge inheritance tax bills. The main inheritance tax rate is 40 percent, however many families – particularly the super-rich – pay a lower effective tax rate because they are able to take advantage of allowances and exemptions. CenTax found that the use of the spousal exemption plays a major role in reducing a family’s average effective tax rate, especially for the ultra-wealthy. Its researchers estimate the cap would impact fewer than 0.1 percent of estates – less than 100 deaths a year – and raise up to £350m in revenue. Separately, the Institute for Fiscal Studies has suggested capping the spousal exemption. It said: “A potential direction for reform could be to cap spouse exemption at a high threshold and increase the transferable nil-rate band for the survivor by the post-tax amount of assets on which their partner paid inheritance tax.” Arun Advani, director of CenTax and associate professor at the University of Warwick, said: “We need to think about how these inheritance tax reliefs interact with each other. If the Government reduces business property relief but leaves agricultural relief, then people will just buy up farmland.” Experts warn a spousal exemption cap could deter wealthy taxpayers from living in the UK. David Denton, tax expert at investment firm Quilter Cheviot, told the Telegraph: “Placing a cap on the inheritance tax spousal exemption would bring in a very minimal amount of revenue for the Exchequer, but would have the potential to further dissuade high net worth individuals from living in the UK which could have a detrimental impact on the economy.” Sarah Coles, of stockbroker Hargreaves Lansdown, said: “Setting the cap at £10m might persuade people that it’s not something they need to worry about, but even then, changing a rule that has been around for more than 50 years might worry people that this could be the thin end of the wedge, and a precursor to a tighter cap.”

She was also banned from posting or documenting any personal information on the internet or other media outlets, from commenting about Ms Keenan’s autobiography Broken or any other article she publishes and from sending any correspondence about Ms Keenan, her book or any article. The judge agreed that Mellor could report any crime in good faith, to respond to inquiries of her by the authorities and to seek her own legal advice about Ms Keenan’s autobiography, Broken, or any Ms Keenan article. Mellor told the judge she was in contact with her MPs about books which contain graphic descriptions of child pornography without any censorship or warnings and which were available to children. She had also lodged a complaint about how Essex Police had handled her complaints. Mellor’s campaign work has included supporting Sally and Steve Clark and Angela Canning in the late 1990s/early 2000s. The two mothers were jailed for the murders of their cot death babies and later released on appeal after question marks over the expert’s evidence. Mellor’s trial has cost over £16,800 and the judge said she must give details of her financial affairs. He commented: “You have put the public to some serious expense all of which was, frankly, avoidable. These things have consequences.” After the verdict, Mellor told the judge she wanted to appeal her conviction. He said she would have to prepare her case and ask permission from the Court of Appeal. “I will do that,” she replied. During the trial high-profile child rights campaigner, Esther Rantzen gave evidence on behalf of Mellor. Jurors heard how the abuse took place between January 1 and March 16, 2013. Mellor sent Ms Keenan distressing tweets and published statements about her in emails sent to work associates.

Befriending Middle East leaders – As a world leader and public figure, Trump brought a markedly different presence to the Middle East. While US news outlets were filled with reports of how European and other western leaders didn’t mesh with his style of leadership, he was received warmly by many in the Middle East and elsewhere, from monarchs and autocrats to democratically elected leaders. His first trip abroad as president began with a stop in Saudi Arabia, which resulted in the viral photo of Trump, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi and Saudi King Salman holding onto a glowing orb. And those friendly ties appeared to remain despite Trump’s occasional attacks on those leaders. He once referred to Sisi as “my favourite dictator” during a meeting at a G7 summit. He previously praised Sisi as a great leader, but in the same light referred to the Egyptian president as a “killer”. The relationship between Trump and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan is a prime example of this dynamic. In August 2018, the US administration sanctioned Turkey over the detention of American pastor Andrew Brunson. At the time, it was a rare rebuke from the US towards its Nato ally. Jared Kushner screamed ‘get out’ to Israeli ambassador in White House, says new book The following year in July 2019, the US kicked Turkey out of the joint F-35 fighter jet programme, over Ankara’s purchase of Russia’s S-400 air defence systems. The move furthered a growing rift between the two allies. Several months later in October, Trump wrote a letter to Erdogan, threatening to destroy the Turkish economy if Turkey does not agree to “a good deal”. That same month, Trump gave the green light for Turkey to launch a major incursion into northern Syria that would push out fighters with the US-backed Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF). But the next month in November 2019, Trump and Erdogan met in person at the White House and the former US president said he was a “big fan” of the Turkish leader. “You’re doing a fantastic job for the people of Turkey,” Trump said at the time. In contrast, the relationship between Erdogan and Biden has been cold. And while a visit by Turkey’s president to Washington was scheduled for earlier this year, it has since been postponed.

Her comments came in response to a question from a participant who asked what she would do to ensure that not another Palestinian is killed by US-funded bombs in Gaza. “It’s unconscionable, and we are now at a place where, with (Hamas leader Yahya) Sinwar’s death, I do believe we have an opportunity to end this war, bring the hostages home, bring relief to the Palestinian people and work toward a two-state solution where Israel and the Palestinians, in equal measure, have security, where the Palestinian people have dignity, self-determination and the safety that they so rightly deserve,” said Harris. The US has long faced criticism for its unconditional support for Israel over its war on Gaza since last October, which has killed more than 42,000 Palestinians, mostly women and children. Harris also labeled former President Donald Trump as “dangerous,” once again referencing reports from former White House Chief of Staff John Kelly, who claimed Trump spoke admiringly of the loyalty of Hitler’s Nazi generals. Asked by host Anderson Cooper whether she would be “more pro-Israel” than Trump if elected president, she avoided a direct response, choosing instead to focus on criticizing Trump, reiterating: “I believe that Donald Trump is dangerous.” She said several people who worked with Trump “have all called him unfit and dangerous.”

Clay Higgins (R-La.) accused the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) of having over 200 FBI agents “embedded” in the crowd that stormed Capitol Hill on January 6, 2021. “The FBI was not only involved in the actions on January 6 from within,” Higgins told Newsmax during a recent interview. “They had, I suspect, over 200 agents embedded within the crowd including agents or as they would call human assets inside the Capitol dressed as Trump supporters before the doors were opened.” Newsmax shared a clip from a video that featured the Louisiana congressman during a previous hearing where he questioned FBI Director Christopher Wray regarding the agency’s involvement with the Jan. 6 protest. As part of his questioning, Higgins accused the FBI of sending “ghost busses” to Capitol Hill that were filled with FBI informants dressed to look like supporters of former President Donald Trump. Asked by Higgins if he could confirm that the FBI had “that sort of engagement” with agents “embedded” in the crowd of Trump supporters on Jan. 6, Wray responded, “If you are asking whether the violence at the Capitol on January 6 was part of some operation orchestrated by FBI sources and or agents the answer is emphatically no.”

The attack on the Kamal Adwan hospital, located in Beit Lahia, was launched around 2am local time, shortly after Israeli fighter jets carpet-bombed residential buildings in the nearby Jabalia camp and southern Gaza’s Khan Younis. The assault on the hospital began with air strikes that hit the hospital and its courtyards, including the medical oxygen generator, said Dr. Munir al-Bursh, director general of the Palestinian health ministry in Gaza. The bombing of the oxygen supply led to the death of children in the hospital and wounded medical staff, Bursh said. “Instead of receiving aid, we receive tanks… which are shelling the [hospital] building,” Dr Hussam Abu Safiya, the director of Kamal Adwan hospital, said in a video published on his social media pages shortly after the bombing. The Ministry of Health has so far announced the death of nearly 400 martyrs, including about 80 bodies still lying in the streets, and the occupation prevents access to them. Anyone who tries to retrieve the bodies is at risk of being targeted. In addition, there is an unknown number of missing persons still under the rubble as a result of the policy of bombing houses on the heads of their inhabitants. In addition to the criminal record of hundreds of wounded, the occupation forces some citizens to follow illegal forced displacement orders under the threat of death, 50,000 citizens were immediately displaced from their homes, while a suffocating siege was imposed on those who remained, intending to starve them. At the same time, the occupation forces deliberately deprived them of treatment and health services, by targeting health workers, health facilities, ambulances, and civil defense. IDF forces even went so far as to target the “Al-Yaman Al-Said Hospital”, taking it out of service, killing and wounding those inside it, including doctors, nurses, patients and displaced persons. They are also threatening the “Kamal Adwan Hospital” with the need to evacuate. Kamal Adwan Hospital is the most important and largest medical center that provides health services to northern Gaza, although it suffers from a severe shortage of all medical supplies. All those who currently receive treatment in this hospital, especially premature babies, are on the verge of death due to the occupation’s blockade of the north, which prevents the entry of aid and medical supplies.

Those killed included cameraman Ghassan Najjar and engineer Mohamed Reda who worked for pro-Iranian news outlet Al-Mayadeen, and one cameraman who worked for Hezbollah’s Al-Manar, Al-Mayadeen reported. Reporters at the scene said the bungalow where the men were sleeping was directly targeted. Hasbaya is a town inhabited by both Muslims and Christians. There have been attacks on its outskirts in recent weeks, but Friday’s, at around 3am local time (1am in the UK) was the first on the town itself. “This is a war crime,” Lebanese Information Minister Ziad Makary said. At least 18 journalists from six media outlets, including Sky News, Al-Jazeera and Lebanese broadcasters, were staying at the guesthouses. “We heard the airplane flying very low – that’s what woke us up – and then we heard the two missiles,” Muhammad Farhat, a reporter with the Lebanese outlet Al-Jadeed, told news agency Reuters. Report: Shin Bet Warned of Possible Hamas Assault Hours Before October 7 Attack – Approximately three hours prior to the Hamas’ attack in southern Israel on October 7, Shin Bet warned other elements of the police and security establishment that a potential assault emanating from the besieged Gaza Strip could be imminent. The Kan public broadcaster and Channel 12 news reported the internal security service sent a “top secret” notification to the National Security Council, Mossad, and police that Israeli SIM cards Shin Bet had previously circulated within the group’s ranks as part of an operation had been activated “in a number of Hamas battalions.” There was no solid quantification of how many SIM cards were activated in the warning, but as the Times of Israel notes each battalion presumably contains hundreds of fighters. The Shin Bet operation involving the cards was launched to provide an early warning for future Hamas attacks against Israel. The automatically generated alert was sent to situation rooms staffed 24 hours a day, contradicting past police claims about never receiving any warning, per Israeli media. The Nova music festival held just outside the Gaza concentration camp went on as scheduled despite the alert, where concertgoers were subsequently slaughtered by Hamas as well as the IDF, which reportedly implemented a mass Hannibal Directive. The Hannibal Directive is a policy of the Israeli military to kill their own soldiers when taken hostage, so as to prevent them from being used as bargaining chips by various resistance groups. However, on October 7, this order was extended to include Israeli civilians potentially kidnapped by Hamas. The group managed to abduct roughly 250 hostages and bring them back to the Strip.

Salmond was a ‘man of the people’ – Former First Minister Alex Salmond was a “man of the people” who touched lives across the world, according to the organiser of the conference at which he died. The Alba leader, 69, collapsed on Saturday at an Academy for Cultural Diplomacy (ACD) event in North Macedonia after suffering a heart attack. A private individual is paying for a charter flight to bring Salmond’s body back to Aberdeen from the Balkan country. A private family funeral will be held for the Alba Party leader, followed by a public memorial event at a later date. Tributes have been paid to Salmond from across the political spectrum in recent days. During Prime Ministers’ Questions Sir Keir Starmer described him as a “monumental figure in Scottish and UK politics”. ACD director Mark Donfried has returned to North Macedonia from his home in Germany to personally ensure Salmond is repatriated as soon as possible. He told BBC Scotland News: “I was taught as a I grew up you don’t leave any man behind and, here, I definitely feel a responsibility to make sure that everything goes perfectly with the highest level of respect.” Mr Donfried has known Salmond for several years and invited him to the conference at the Inex Olgica hotel, which was attended by dozens of young leaders and delegates from across the world. The former MP and MSP arrived on Thursday and delivered a speech on Friday. But after attending a panel event on Saturday he collapsed during lunch and was pronounced dead at 15:30 local time (14:30 BST). The conference was immediately cancelled but delegates gathered less than four hours later to process his sudden loss. Images showed some at the attendees in tears as stories were shared about Salmond’s life and career.

The former First Minister died suddenly on Saturday while at a lunch at a diplomacy conference in North Macedonia, having suffered what is believed to have been a huge heart attack. While leading SNP figures including Nicola Sturgeon and John Swinney have paid tribute to a former leader seen as one of the most consequential politicians in Scottish history, their remarks have angered some of his supporters. Mr Salmond died believing that some of his former allies in the SNP had conspired in an effort to have him jailed for sexual misconduct allegations, and he had privately claimed he was close to exposing major corruption in the months leading up to his death. Mr Salmond’s family will have the option of continuing to pursue the case on his behalf despite his death at the age of 69. Meanwhile, David Davis, the Tory MP and close friend of Mr Salmond, vowed to “continue the battle to ensure justice is done” in his memory. Mr Davis had been due to meet with Mr Salmond on Sunday to discuss what he called the Scottish Government’s “malevolent actions against him” and next steps in dealing with “the failure of the rule of law in Scotland”. The former Brexit Secretary told The Telegraph that he would continue to push for new legal protections for MSPs to ensure the Salmond affair could be investigated properly at Holyrood, regardless of whether his family chooses to continue his civil case. Mr Davis has previously used parliamentary privilege in the Commons to read out information he says supports Mr Salmond’s claim to have been victim of a conspiracy. Mr Salmond was acquitted of a series of sexual misconduct charges at a trial in 2020, and earlier had a civil service probe into allegations against him quashed by the courts after a judge ruled that it was “tainted by apparent bias”. Last year he lodged a fresh Court of Session petition alleging misfeasance – the wrongful exercise of lawful authority – by civil servants. He said at the time that “not one single person had been held accountable” for the botched investigation against him and that his case would lead to a “day of reckoning” for the Scottish Government. Kenny MacAskill, who served as Mr Salmond’s justice secretary throughout his tenure as First Minister, said that while it was up to Mr Salmond’s family whether to continue the court case he hoped they would choose to pursue it. “I will respect the decision of the family,” Mr MacAskill, who is now acting leader of the Alba Party following Mr Salmond’s death, said. “But like many, I would like to see justice done and that includes the completion and outcome of the civil case.” Asked about tributes being paid to Mr Salmond by leading SNP figures, he added: “I have tried to be restrained because this time is about allowing the family to grieve and remembering Alex’s legacy. “But I am staggered by the hypocrisy of some. Sadly, there’s a few individuals who not only should hang their heads in shame but face the full legal consequences of their actions.” The SNP has paid tribute to Mr Salmond following his death as a “titan of the independence movement”. However, the party had previously sought to erase mentions of his achievements and pivotal role in its history over two decade-long spells as leader from its website. ‘Stabbed in the back’ Joanna Cherry, the former SNP MP who was a close ally to Mr Salmond, claimed the former First Minister was “stabbed in the back” by his former friends and comrades but outstanding court cases could restore his reputation. “It sometimes concerns me that people don’t take seriously enough the gravity of the fact that a government investigation against a former First Minister was found to be tainted by apparent bias,” she said. “Now, of course, Alex has an outstanding civil action, and there are outstanding criminal investigations which we can’t say very much about. “I think it’s a terrible tragedy that Alex has died before he was able to be completely vindicated, but I believe that time will vindicate his name.” Ms Cherry added: “I think more and more people across the political divide of Scotland are becoming interested in what exactly went on behind the scenes in relation to Alex Salmond. “And I think it’s the great tragedy of Alex Salmond’s career that so many of his erstwhile comrades and political colleagues and friends either stabbed him in the back or turned their back on him in his hour of need. “I found that pretty disgusting at the time, and I’m very proud that I stood by him.”

The tests were performed on experimental dogs and on patients in association with open-heart surgery. The most vulnerable range was found to be between 12 and 60 c/s. A close similarity was demonstrated between canine and human hearts. The induction of ventricular fibrillation during open-heart surgery is discussed. Ventricular fibrillation, caused by electricity, is either accidental or deliberately induced for medical purposes. The myocardial threshold of excitability towards alternating currents is dependent on two parameters, current and frequency. The vulnerability of the heart towards current has been thoroughly investigated by several authors (Walter, 1969; Dalziel & Lee, 1969; Nickel & Spang, 1965; Kugelberg, 1975). A frequency of 50-60 c/s was utilized in all these determinations, as this is the one of choice in networks for distribution of electric power all over the world. Thus, accidental ventricular fibrillation is most likely to occur with currents of this frequency, and inductions for medical purposes, i.e. during open-heart operations, are achieved in the easiest way with simple transformers delivering the same frequency.

Labour Party given £4m by Quadrature Capital just before election, who fund weapons to Israel – Naked Capitalism – Firm Behind £4M Labour Party Donation Invested in Weapons for Israel Posted on October 17, 2024 by Conor Gallagher By Paul Holden, an investigative journalist who is currently the Director of investigations at Shadow World Investigations. The Labour Party’s largest-ever donation came from a hedge fund that stood to profit from Israel’s war in Gaza, openDemocracy can reveal. Quadrature Capital held $121m worth of shares in a range of arms, tech and logistics firms which have all supported the ongoing military campaign. They include companies that help make Israeli F-35 fighter jets, which have been used in devastating airstrikes on a “humanitarian zone”. The finding comes after David Lammy, the foreign secretary, refused to suspend arms export licences related to F-35s, despite suspending 30 other licences because of risks over Israeli violations of international law. Last month, openDemocracy revealed how Quadrature Capital donated £4m to the Labour Party shortly after July’s election was announced in May. Labour accepted the gift just days before the campaign rules – that require weekly declarations about donations – came into force, meaning it was not made public until after the election. Owned via the Cayman Islands tax haven, Quadrature Capital’s donation was the sixth-largest donation in British political history, and the largest single donation the Labour Party has ever received. Now, an investigation by openDemocracy and Shadow World Investigations shows the hedge fund held shares in a range of companies linked to Israel’s assault in Gaza. The findings are based on an analysis of financial documents filed with the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). Israel has killed more than 42,000 people in Gaza over the past 12 months, including at least 16,456 children, according to the local health ministry. However, some report that this death toll may be a significant underestimate, as the attacks have led to famine and disease, as well as destroying healthcare reporting systems. In January, the International Court of Justice (ICJ) ruled that the right of Palestinian people not to suffer genocide in Gaza was plausibly under threat. Applications were later filed for arrest warrants to be issued against Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu and defence minister Yoav Gallant, alongside senior Hamas leaders. Zack Polanski, the deputy leader of the UK Green Party, told openDemocracy there were “serious democratic questions” about Quadrature’s donation to Labour. Declaring it after the election looks “deeply cynical,” he said, and “further erodes trust in our politics”. “To now find out that the company donating also has links to the F-35s currently engaged in the genocide in Gaza means that this government has serious questions to answer about the choices they’re making in how they funded their campaign.” Shareholdings Quadrature previously claimed that its SEC filings do not give a full picture of which firms it holds shares in at any given time. The company claims to make automated trades based on statistical models, without necessarily holding investments for prolonged periods. Under US law, hedge funds such as Quadrature are only required to disclose so-called “long” positions on tradable assets, but not short positions. However, the SEC filings do provide periodic snapshots of its corporate shareholdings, including on three separate dates in December 2023, March 2024 and June 2024. On average across the three reporting dates, the hedge fund held $121m of shares in companies that have supplied arms, tech or logistical support to Israel’s military efforts in Gaza. They include Lockheed Martin, Boeing, Caterpillar, Howmet Aerospace, Northrop Grumman, Oshkosh Corporation, Palantir and Woodward Inc. Lockheed Martin says it has played a “significant role” in supporting Israel’s security. The company has “assisted in strengthening the IDF ground forces” as well as supplying dozens of F-35 fighter jets. Records show that Quadrature held over $5.5m in Lockheed Martin shares in June. Another company, Northrop Grumman, is “principal partner and teammate” on the F-35 Lightning II program and has previously worked with Elbit Systems, the Israeli arms firm, to produce components for the jets. It makes the Longbow missile system used in Apache aircraft, as well as the corvette warships that Israel has long used to enforce its naval blockade on Gaza. Records from June this year show that more than $30m of Northrop Grumman shares were held by Quadrature, up from about $3m earlier in the year in March. Meanwhile, Howmet Aerospace says it helps build F-35s by supplying “many of its critical parts”, which are used from “nose to tail” on the jet. Howmet Aerospace is the new name of Arconic Inc., which split into two separate firms in 2020. Arconic Inc. supplied highly flammable cladding used on Grenfell Tower, which was found to be a key reason for the intensity and spread of the fire that killed 72 people in 2017. An inquiry into the disaster said that Arconic “deliberately concealed from the market the true extent of the danger” of using the cladding. At the time, Arconic responded saying it had never sold any unsafe products and “did not conceal information from or mislead any certification body, customer, or the public”. Records from last year also show that Quadrature had shares in Boeing, which produces so-called Joint Direct Attack Munitions (JDAMs) – equipment that turns unguided “dumb bombs” into guided munitions. According to Amnesty International, Boeing-made JDAMs have been used in at least three attacks on Gaza, which the charity said were unlawful. Boeing also produces the GBU-39 small diameter bomb, which has been described by the New York Times as “increasingly the weapon of choice for the Israeli military,” linking it to two “mass casualty events” in Gaza. Another of the firms Quadrature held shares in, Woodward Inc., produces components that are used in Boeing’s JDAM kits and has been linked to an Israeli airstrike that killed 45 displaced Palestinians. And another, Caterpillar, produces armoured bulldozers to “military specifications”, and has faced accusations that they are used to clear bombed-out areas in Gaza to prepare the way for ground invasions, as well as being used to demolish Palestinian homes in the West Bank.

New raft of cuts at the BBC an assault on journalism, says NUJ – The NUJ has warned of long-term harm to the BBC without urgent investment, following its announcement of new cuts to news and current affairs programming. The BBC has stated it is under significant financial pressure with cuts designed to pivot it to a more agile position within the landscape it operates. It is aiming to save £300m per year by 2027/28, in addition to £400m in savings already realised. Cuts to news and programming revealed, will result in a net loss of 130 posts as 185 roles are culled and 55 created. In plans announced today, the BBC states it will close HARDtalk by March 2025, despite it being on air since 1997, replacing content with either live news or pre-recorded programming. In addition, millions of UK radio listeners will now get their overnight news from the BBC World Service – including those on 5 Live, Radio 2 and the BBC’s 39 Local Radio stations. The NUJ is concerned that important domestic stories will be lost in a much wider, global agenda; these UK-based bulletins have been part of the BBC’s radio service for well over forty years and are now being scrapped for the minimal saving of only 2.5 posts. Further changes announced include the adoption of a ‘Follow the Sun’ strategy for some online news roles, where posts in Sydney will be opened to boost output for UK mornings but will result in the closure of most night shifts in the London newsroom. No detail on plans for World Service has been shared by the BBC, as it awaits information from government on what funding it will receive as part of next year’s budget. The NUJ repeats its call to Lisa Nandy, Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport to commit to urgent and suitable funding of the BBC that allows it to thrive in its role as public service broadcaster, without the frequent downscaling the broadcaster must embark on, directly impacting trusted journalism. The NUJ has stressed that only voluntary redundancies should be pursued where necessary, as journalists face the shock that new cuts bring. Michelle Stanistreet, NUJ general secretary, said: “These latest cuts represent a damaging assault on journalism and news at a time when the UK needs greater plurality and diversity of news and trust in journalism is under attack at home and abroad. “Some of these decisions represent comparatively modest savings yet will disproportionately undermine the breadth and range of news content the BBC currently provides.”

Salisbury Skripal ‘pantomime’ enquiry has not one of the six key people present, Sergey Skripal, Julia Skripal, Charlie Rowley, plus Russians Denis Sergeev, Ruslan Boshirov and Alexander Petrov. The story doesn’t make sense – like George Orwell. Today is the grand opening of the Salisbury Festival of Russophobia, otherwise known as the Public Inquiry into the death of Dawn Sturgess, an unfortunate victim of imperialist spy games. Do not be fooled. This is not in any sense a genuine public inquiry, supposed to get at the truth. This is an inquiry like the Hutton Inquiry into the death of Dr David Kelly, designed entirely to conceal the truth and further the official narrative. In the Kelly case, the official narrative was that one of the world’s leading experts in chemical weapons, with access to instant-action neurotoxins, decided to kill himself after leaking that Iraq had no WMD. He chose to do so by cutting his wrist veins with a rusty penknife and waiting for a slow and painful death in the woods. The ambulance crew who picked Kelly up testified that there was very little blood and they did not think that he could have bled out, but the Inquiry considered there was little blood because it must have “soaked into the soil”. Nobody thought to dig up the soil and check. In the Dawn Sturgess case, we are supposed to believe that two top Russian agents sent to kill Sergei Skripal chose a “novichok” nerve agent as the manner of death. In broad daylight they painted this on the front door of his house, in full view of the neighbours and passers-by on the packed housing estate and without any protective equipment, despite the fact that a tiny droplet on your skin could kill you. The agents then went for a walk in Salisbury town centre, looked in the window of an antique shop, and put the perfume bottle containing the novichok back in its packet including somehow resealing the cellophane wrapping. They then placed the “perfume” in a charity bin. They then made their getaway on the notoriously unreliable Sunday train service. The Skripals came back home, and both touched the door handle. Despite the novichok being instant-acting and extremely deadly, they then went out for lunch and ate a full meal and drank wine and had a high old time for three hours, being joined and photographed by their MI6 handler Pablo Miller (whose existence is D-noticed). After their meal, the novichok finally took effect and they both collapsed on a park bench. Despite the fact that they were different ages, sexes and weights and presumably contacted differing amounts of novichok, they both collapsed at just the same moment, about three hours after contact, so neither of them was able to call for help. But luckily the very first person to come across them on the park bench was, completely by coincidence, the Chief Nurse of the British Army, who just happened to be passing. They went to hospital and were saved and did not die after all. A policeman sent to their house touched the door handle and also got novichok poisoning, and he later got ill and was hospitalised, but did not die either. He had returned to his own home and later it was found that he had got novichok all over the light switches and door handles there, but by great fortune his family, who continued to live in this house, did not get ill from it. The official explanation of this is that it was “a miracle”.

The broadcaster, who founded the Childline telephone service for children suffering abuse, had an affair with the late Conservative MP and Solicitor General for Scotland after they met at a BBC studio in 1966. It has been claimed that Sir Nicholas, who died in 1995 aged 61, visited a London guest house where children from care homes were allegedly assaulted by high-profile visitors. Ms Rantzen said: “I am horrified and disgusted by these allegations, because Nicky was a friend of mine. “I had a very brief relationship with him. I always assumed that he was attracted to adult women rather than children. “I had absolutely no knowledge of that side of him. However, over the years I have learned that you really never know anyone.” The 74-year-old, who has played a leading role in uncovering child abuse, was 26 when she embarked on an affair with the married politician. They met after he appeared as a guest on a BBC show where she was working as a researcher. “When I knew Nicky he was courteous, charming and very fond of women,” she continued. “He was a high-profile lawyer, who lived in a castle and had a very flamboyant private life. “He took me to lunch at the Ritz. He gave me a long-stemmed red rose and ordered Beluga caviar and Krug champagne. “If ever there was an aphrodisiac meal, that was it. Nicky took me to some Lord’s house where he was staying and the rest was inevitable.” It is understood evidence suggests Sir Nicholas was one of several politicians who visited Elm Guest House, which hosted parties in the 1980s where vulnerable boys were sexually assaulted after being plied with alcohol. A VIP list of visitors suggests Sir Nicholas “used boys in the sauna” and that photos existed of him at the guest house. Police are investigating the list, which also contains the name of the late Liberal MP Cyril Smith, as part of their Operation Fernbridge inquiry. Sir Nicholas was forced to resign as Solicitor General in 1982 over a decision not to prosecute in a rape case. A year beforehand, a House of Commons secretary tried to hang herself from a lamppost outside his London flat after they had an affair. In 2000, the daughter of a prominent Scottish lawyer, who was never publicly named, alleged Sir Nicholas had been part of a paedophile ring. The claims were denied by his family. Sir Nicholas’ eldest daughter, Charlotte, declined to comment on the latest allegations, stating: “There’s nothing I can say. He’s been dead for 20 years.”

Despite Lammy’s claims, evidence PROVES Labour is STILL complicit in Israel’s war crimes A new briefing from Campaign Against Arms Trade (CAAT) reveals that, despite imposing a partial arms sales suspension, the Labour Party government is still complicit in Israel’s war crimes in Gaza. On 2 September, the government suspended just 30 out of about 350 export licences to Israel. The briefing provides detailed analysis of UK arms export licences, what is included in the partial embargo, and more importantly, what has been omitted and what remains unknown, with a focus on the exports of components for the F-35 combat aircraft. F-35 components, so long as they are not sent directly to Israel, are exempted from the suspension, despite evidence Israel is using F-35s to commit violations of International Humanitarian Law (IHL). On the very day Labour arms sales suspension was announced, Danish NGO Danwatch revealed that an F-35 was used in July to drop three 2000lb bombs in an attack on a so-called “safe zone” on Al-Mawasi in Khan Younis, killing 90 people. The attack almost certainly violated IHL. The UK makes 15% of every F-35. CAAT estimates the value of UK parts in the 39 planes delivered to Israel so far since 2016 is roughly £360 million. This is almost three times as much as the value of all the other aircraft-related licences to Israel over the same period. The F-35 is almost certainly the single largest and most important part of the UK arms trade with Israel. Since F-35 exports are made using an open licence that allows unlimited exports, these figures are often omitted in media reporting of UK arms sales to Israel which tend to focus on single licences as these are the only licences with a financial value attached. The F-35 is central to this This figure does not include spare parts. Freedom of Information requests by CAAT reveal that the number of uses of the Open General Export Licence (OGEL) for the F-35 to deliver parts directly to Israel nearly tripled in 2023. We do not know when in any year deliveries occurred, or how much was delivered each time, but this jump very likely indicates an increased demand by Israel for spare parts since 7 October. We also don’t know how often the OGEL was used to export spare parts to the US or to the global F-35 stockpile that were subsequently exported to Israel.

Censored: Keir Starmer’s Emails About Israeli War Crimes Case The Crown Prosecution Service won’t release files on how the Labour leader blocked a former Israeli official’s arrest over alleged war crimes in Gaza in 2008, John McEvoy reports. The coalition government changed U.K. law in 2011 to enable Israeli ministers accused of crimes to visit Britain without fear of prosecution. Declassified asks the CPS to conduct an internal review into its decision to censor the Starmer emails. In October 2011, Keir Starmer, now the leader of the Labour Party, was asked by a human rights group and law firm to issue an arrest warrant for former Israeli Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni, who was visiting London, over alleged war crimes. Starmer was then director of public prosecutions (DPP) at the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS). But two days later, he blocked the application for Livni’s arrest, citing a Foreign Office decision to grant her visit “special mission” status. Declassified recently submitted a freedom of information (FOI) request asking for all communications to and from Starmer’s office regarding the case. These files could shine a crucial light on the discussions which led to Livni’s escape from prosecution. However, the CPS has censored a number of key emails, claiming that the release of such information would prejudice the effective conduct of public affairs. Starmer’s role in the Livni case requires closer inspection in light of the Labour Party’s ongoing support for Israel’s brutal war on Gaza. Livni was the Israeli minister of foreign affairs between 2006 and 2009, and a member of Israel’s war cabinet during the brutal bombing of Gaza between December 2008 and January 2009, known as Operation Cast Lead. According to a U.N. report, “numerous serious violations of international law… were committed by Israel during the military operations in Gaza”, which killed around 1,400 Palestinians, 333 of whom were children. “These changes were intended to prevent the arrest of suspected war criminals from ‘friendly’ states”, argued Daniel Machover and Raji Sourani, who were both involved in Livni’s case. The law was changed with Israeli officials in mind. Two days before her arrival, the Palestinian Centre for Human Rights and law firm Hickman & Rose requested on behalf of a civilian Palestinian victim of Israeli attacks that Starmer, then DPP, authorise Livni’s arrest. The application was supported by “extensive evidence indicating Ms Livni’s individual criminal responsibility” for war crimes committed in Gaza, and was compatible with the new legislation Starmer deliberated on the evidence for long enough that the Foreign Office was able to retroactively attribute “special mission” status to Livni’s visit, designed to grant her temporary diplomatic immunity.

Asa Winstanley – another ‘anti-terror’ police raid on an anti-genocide journalist. Operation Incessantness – against pro Palestinian journalists – Electronic Intifada story Police escalate the British state’s war on independent journalism – The raid on investigative journalist Asa Winstanley isn’t about terrorism – except the UK government’s. It is about scaring us into staying silent on Britain’s collusion in Israel’s genocide The UK government and police – the British state – made clear today they are waging a war of intimidation against the country’s independent journalists in a desperate attempt to silence them. Ten Metropolitan police officers made a dawn raid on the home of investigative journalist Asa Winstanley and seized his electronic devices under the UK’s draconian Terrorism Act. A letter from the Met indicates that the associate editor of the Electronic Intifada is being investigated by the force for “encouraging terrorism”. Winstanley is the latest – and most high profile – independent journalist to be targeted by counter-terrorism police in recent weeks. Earlier, Richard Medhurst was arrested at Heathrow airport on returning to the UK from a trip abroad. Then Sarah Wilkinson was arrested and her home ransacked. Keir Starmer is expanding the scope of already draconian UK laws to arrest critics of his complicity in Israel’s genocide in Gaza as ‘supporters’ of terrorism. Winstanley has repeatedly embarrassed the British establishment by exposing its covert and deep ties to Israel and its collusion with the Israel lobby. In his book Weaponising Anti-Semitism: How the Israel Lobby Brought Down Jeremy Corbyn, Winstanley exposed in shocking detail how antisemitism was weaponised against the former Labour leader. The book would have made uncomfortable reading for his successor, Sir Keir Starmer, now Britain’s prime minister, because it documents his role in the smear campaign. While in opposition, Starmer’s Labour party threatened to expel Winstanley as a member – he resigned in protest instead – and have made legal threats against him. As the Electronic Intifada website notes: “Now that Labour is the UK’s ruling party, it has the potential to use the apparatus of the state against those it views as its own – or Israel’s – political enemies.” There is precisely no reason for police to raid Winstanley’s home or seize his electronic devices. The preposterous accusation of “encouraging terrorism” clearly relates to his online work, which is fully in the public domain. The British state wants to insinuate through the dawn raid and confiscation of his devices that he is somehow harbouring secret or classified information, or in illicit contact with terror groups, and that incriminating evidence will be forthcoming from searches of those devices. It won’t. If there were any real suspicion that Winstanley had such information, the police would have arrested him rather making a public show of a 6am raid and search they knew beforehand would turn up nothing. This isn’t about terrorism, except by the British state. It is about frightening those opposing Israel’s genocide in Gaza, and the West’s collusion in it, into silence. If the British state is going after someone like Winstanley, you are supposed to conclude, they will surely soon come for me too. Even the name of the “counter-terrorism” raid is performative: “Operation Incessantness”. The message the state wants to send is that it will not rest till it has us all behind bars.

Asa Winstanley’s explosive investigation for 07 October 2024: How Israel killed hundreds of its own people on 7 October –  Killing their own people If Hamas made a miscalculation in the planning of Operation Al-Aqsa Flood, it was perhaps to overestimate the value Israeli planners assigned to the lives of their own people. In 2006, Hamas successfully captured Israeli occupation soldier Gilad Shalit, exchanging him for 1,024 Palestinian prisoners in 2011 – including the current leader of Hamas Yahya Sinwar. A similar exchange was made with the Lebanese resistance in 2008. Although exchanging prisoners is a common element of conflict, Israeli leaders felt weakened and embarrassed by what they saw as compromises. So they secretly modified their policies, preparing to strike with lethal force against their own people in the event of future captures. At the heart of these plans was the Hannibal Directive, established in secret by Israeli generals in 1986, and named after an ancient Carthaginian general who killed himself rather than be captured alive by the Roman Empire.

In 2014, captured Israeli soldier Hadar Goldin was killed in a deliberate artillery strike during Israel’s August invasion of the Gaza Strip. Up to 200 Palestinian civilians were killed in the bombardment on Rafah, including 75 children. As a result, the secretive military doctrine was forced into the light. Despite continued obfuscation, the Israeli military admitted that the directive existed and may have been used on an Israeli solider. Two years later, the Israeli military distanced itself from the directive, claiming that “the order as it is understood today” would be cancelled. “This move was not necessarily a full change in policy but a clarification,” The Times of Israel reported in 2016. Yet multiple Israeli press reports have now confirmed that Hannibal was not only reactivated on 7 October – if it ever truly went away – but was actually extended to captured Israeli civilians on their way to Gaza.

New head of UK Counter Terrorism Policing, Matt Jukes  Head of UK Met police Anti-Terror and journalist intimidation command, accused of terrorism themselves, Matthew Jukes graduated with a BA in Mathematics from St Peter’s College, Oxford in 1995, and shortly afterwards joined South Yorkshire Police as a PC. He worked as a detective and in other roles from 1997 to 2006, including representing UK policing at G8 meetings and time with the precursor of the National Counter Terrorism Policing Network, and was also praised for his conduct ensuring no police were prosecuted during the Rotherham child sexual exploitation scandal. He first moved to corrupt South Wales Police in 2010 as an Assistant Chief Constable, rising to become its Chief Constable in January 2018,

US attacks Iran-backed Houthi rebels in Yemen with B-2 bombers U.S. B-2 bombers attacked weapons caches belonging to Houthi rebels in Yemen and Israel claimed it had killed the top Hamas leader as multiple conflicts involving Iran-backed militant groups heated up Thursday. The attack on Houthi weapons appears to be the first such use of the strategic stealth bomber against the militia. Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin said in a statement the operation late Wednesday was ordered by President Joe Biden to “further degrade” the Houthis’ ability to launch attacks on commercial and military ships in the Red Sea. The strikes could also be a warning to Iran at a time when Tehran and U.S. ally Israel have appeared on the verge of a full-blown war. Austin did not mention Iran by name. However, he said the use of the B-2 bomber, which is the only warplane in the U.S. arsenal that can carry 30,000-pound so-called bunker busting bombs, “was a unique demonstration of the United States’ ability to target facilities that our adversaries seek to keep out of reach, no matter how deeply buried underground, hardened or fortified. The employment of U.S. Air Force B-2 Spirit long-range stealth bombers demonstrates U.S. global strike capabilities to take action against these targets when necessary, anytime, anywhere.” The top U.S. defense official said the “precision strikes” targeted five “hardened” underground weapons storage locations in Houthi-controlled areas of Yemen. There were no immediate reports of casualties, the military said.

Shaban al-Dalou: The Palestinian teen burned to death in Israeli bombing The 19-year-old had filmed himself donating blood and narrating his family’s displacement in Deir el-Balah. Shaaban al-Dalou – He was 19 years old, a software engineering student, and displaced from his home, trying to survive in central Gaza. He was a few days away from his 20th birthday. Shaban al-Dalou wouldn’t make it. He had struggled for months to get help for his family, recording videos describing his family’s plight and their life under Israel’s bombs. But he wasn’t able to get enough money to get his family out of Gaza. The world finally paid attention to Shaban when his last moments were filmed this week. Connected to an IV drip, he was burned alive along with his mother after Israeli forces bombed the Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital complex in Deir el-Balah in the early hours of Monday. In the videos Shaban recorded in the weeks and months before his death, he talks about the reality of living in Gaza, a premonition of the horror he faced at the end of his short life. “There is no safe place here in Gaza,” Shaban says in one video, speaking into a phone camera from the makeshift tent where he had been living since fleeing his home. In another video, Shaban talks about the difficulties of finding food “because the Israeli occupation managed to separate the middle area from the rest of Gaza and the people here are struggling to [meet] their basic needs”. He also filmed himself donating blood at Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital, which Israel had already bombed several times in the last year before the bombing that killed him. “We saw so many injuries, many children are in dire need of blood,” Shaban said. “All we demand is a ceasefire and for this tragedy to end.” In some videos, Shaban asked for donations to help his family evacuate to Egypt. “165 days of the continuous genocide against us,” he said in one. “Five months we have lived in a tent.” “I’m taking care of my family, as I’m the oldest,” he said in another, adding that his parents, two sisters and two brothers were displaced five times before finding refuge on the hospital’s grounds. “The only thing between us and the freezing temperatures is this tent that we constructed by ourselves.” Shaban al-Dalou 19 year old burned to death in attack on Al Aqsa Martyrs Hospital – he had filmed as his family kept being displaced in Gaza.

A year later, Hamas seized control of Gaza. In 2009, Benjamin Netanyahu became Israel’s prime minister for the second time and ruled until 2021. His voters, in part, saw in Bibi God’s anointed one, the Messiah and King David, a hero who has no competition among the people. Not only in the country but also abroad, Christians rave about God’s messengers on earth, especially in the USA. From their perspective, Bibi was not replaceable, and that was true for a while. This of course angers his opponents, who cannot handle the fact that Bibi is being glorified like a messianic figure and messenger of God despite his political shenanigans. In Israel, too, many people saw Benjamin Netanyahu as a savior. Bibi eventually slipped into opposition for about a year until he was elected for a third time in November 2022. And now there is war under Netanyahu’s government and this can expand into a multi-front war or even a regional and global war. This is not a crazy idea, but a political perception of current reality. Anyone who doesn’t want to see and believe that probably lives in a different world. Now people are talking about the old prophecy of the Lubavitcher Rebbe again and are seeing a possible situation in which everything will come to a head. Will Bibi really be Israel’s last prime minister before the Messiah comes?

I have seen over the last few decades, the, left, easily makes themselves available to be used by the Lord in bringing forth prophecies from the scripture. They do so simply, by their unbelief. They believe they can bring about their own utopia by going against the word of the Lord and by destroying the Lord’s chosen people. Ken Mc Callum, new MI5/6 chief, on the continuing threat in Northern Ireland.Russia’s GRU seeking to cause ‘mayhem’ in Britain and Europe, UK spy chief says LONDON, Oct 8 (Reuters) – Russia’s GRU military intelligence service is seeking to cause “mayhem” across Britain and Europe, the UK’s domestic spy chief said on Tuesday, while a growing threat from resurgent al Qaeda and Islamic State was his greatest terrorism concern. In a wide-ranging speech outlining the current threat picture, Security Service (MI5) Director General Ken McCallum also accused Iran of being behind “plot after plot” on British soil. McCallum said state threat investigations were up 48% in the last year as Russia and Iran turned to criminals, drug traffickers and proxies to carry out their “dirty work”. “It will be clear to you that MI5 has one hell of a job on its hands,” he said. Since March 2017, he said MI5 and the British police had disrupted 43 late-stage plots, some of which were in the final days of planning for mass murder. The terrorist trend which the spy chief said concerned him most was a worsening threat from al Qaeda seeking to capitalise on the conflict in the Middle East, and especially Islamic State, which had resumed efforts to export terrorism, such as the March attack on a Moscow concert hall. Events in the Middle East had not yet translated at scale into militant violence at home, he said. “We are powerfully alive to the risk that events in the Middle East directly trigger terrorist action in the UK,” he said, citing an incident where a Moroccan man stabbed to death a passer-by in northern England in what he said was revenge for Israeli actions in Gaza.

The Alternative Skripal Narrative by Michael Antony for The Saker Blog Let’s take the famous Nina Ricci perfume bottle, laced with novichok, which was found in a rubbish bin or charity bin by a homeless man and given weeks later to his woman friend, who tragically died after spraying it on her wrist. The police/MI6 narrative is that this perfume bottle was used to transport the novichok from Russia in the baggage of one of the alleged GRU men caught on CCTV in Salisbury. The novichok was then sprayed on the door handle of the Skripals’ house. The assassins then callously threw away the bottle (which they knew contained enough novichok to kill more people) in a dustbin or charity bin, demonstrating their indifference to loss of life as well as their indifference to leaving clues all over the place. There are problems with this narrative. The homeless man claimed he had found the perfume bottle still in its box sealed in cellophane, proof it was not reopened after it had been laced with novichok and professionally repackaged. The bottle could not therefore have been used (as claimed) to spray the novichok on the doorknob, or the cellophane seal would have been broken. Assassins far from home don’t usually carry around cellophane-wrapping machines to repackage opened perfume bottles, especially when they are just going to chuck them in the bin. Nor would they take the risk, having fitted the separate spray nozzle onto the bottle and sprayed the doorknob, of disassembling it again to put it back in the box, knowing that a drop on their skin would kill them. And where would they perform this delicate operation? On the street? This poisoned perfume bottle was therefore never reopened, never used and it affected nobody until it ended up in the hands of the homeless man. So who or what was it intended for?

A counter-terrorism chief has defended the vetting process for Metropolitan Police officers after a former officer was jailed for belonging to a neo-Nazi group. Metropolitan Police Assistant Commissioner Neil Basu spoke of being “shocked and betrayed” after Ben Hannam, 22, was jailed for more than four years for being a member of banned extremist group National Action (NA). However, Mr Basu, National Police Chiefs Council lead for counter terrorism policing, denied the force’s vetting procedure was the problem, saying that Hannam would not have been caught if background checks had been more rigorous. He told Times Radio: “When I found out about this case, when we originally identified him, I was as shocked and betrayed as the tens of thousands of decent police officers all over the country will have felt when they saw the sentence today. “This is not a man who represents us, and it was a significant sentence and a pretty stark warning for anybody who’s interested in right-wing extremism and this kind of filth, let alone a serving police officer.” He went on to say: “No vetting process is 100%, the judge recognised the vetting process wasn’t to blame here, in this particular case, it can’t be 100%.” Mr Basu said it would be “foolish” for him to say vetting procedures are not being reviewed nationally because of the case….

Earlier, McCallum accused Russian special services of a plot to create chaos in Europe, including the United Kingdom. But the Investigatory Powers Tribunal (IPT) said “this does not mean that (MI5) has any power to confer immunity from liability under either the criminal law or the civil law”. Four human rights organisations took legal action against the Government over a policy they claimed “purports to permit (MI5) agents to participate in crime” and effectively “immunises criminal conduct from prosecution”. Privacy International, Reprieve, the Committee on the Administration of Justice, and the Pat Finucane Centre asked the IPT to declare the policy unlawful and grant an injunction “restraining further unlawful conduct”. But, in a ruling on Friday, the tribunal ruled by a 3-2 majority that MI5, also known as the Security Service, does have the power to authorise the commission of criminal offences by informants. In the majority ruling, IPT president Lord Justice Singh said MI5 has “an implied power” under the Security Service Act 1989 “to engage in the activities which are the subject of the policy under challenge”.

Alleged Russian arson and sabotage in UK… Two men charged over alleged Russia-linked arson plot. Counter-terrorism police are investigating a fire at a Ukraine-linked business premises Two more men have been charged in relation to an alleged arson attack against a Ukraine-linked business in London, taking the total number of suspects to seven. It comes after two British men were charged in April with helping a foreign intelligence service in relation to a large fire which broke out at an industrial estate in Leyton in March. It is understood the foreign country in question is Russia. On Saturday, the Metropolitan Police said Jakeem Barrington Rose, 22, and Ugnius Asmena, 19, had been charged with aggravated arson. Neither are accused of ties to Russian intelligence. They were arrested on Thursday and appeared in court earlier on Saturday. Mr Asmena, of no fixed address, was born in Lithuania and has previously unsuccessfully applied for EU Settled status, the court was told. Mr Rose, of Croydon, also faces two charges of possessing a knife. Neither was asked to enter a plea during the short hearing. Earlier this year, Dylan Earl and Jake Reeves were charged with National Security Act offences in relation to the fire, becoming the first two people to be prosecuted under the new law. The legislation is designed to crack down on alleged espionage, sabotage and foreign interference. Mr Earl is accused of planning to target the business, as well as attempting to recruit individuals to materially assist a foreign intelligence service, undertaking fraudulent activity and arson. Mr Reeves is accused of accepting money knowing that it was from a foreign intelligence service. Three other suspects – Dmitrijus Paulauska, Paul English and Kojo Mensah – have previously been charged with lesser offences not linked to national security legislation.

Crisis measures to tackle English prison overcrowding imminent, says union POA chair says ministers could declare as soon as Monday that Operation Early Dawn is coming into force The launch of an emergency plan to avoid prison overcrowding in England could be announced as soon as Monday, the Prison Officers’ Association has said. The longstanding measure, known as Operation Early Dawn, would allow defendants to be held in police cells until prison beds became available and could mean their court dates are delayed or adjourned at short notice. Mark Fairhurst, the national chairman of the POA, said the measure risked “clogging up police cells” and he blamed rioters for increasing the pressure on prisons. The Observer revealed over the weekend that the prison operation was expected to start this week, having also been used for several days in March, when prison capacity hit critical levels. Fairhurst told BBC Radio 4’s Broadcasting House on Sunday: “Last week we had the biggest influx of new receptions I’ve seen for quite some time. We had 397 new receptions. As of Friday we only had 340 spaces left in the adult closed male estate, which is feeling the most pressure. “I wouldn’t be surprised if at some point tomorrow morning the Ministry of Justice would announce that Operation Early Dawn kicks in to play at some point next week, probably Tuesday onwards. “The pinch points at the moment are the north-east and the north-west, so it’s likely that if you commit an offence in those areas you will be carted 100, 200 miles away from home to serve your sentence because there’s simply very few spaces.” An internal document said prison escort staff would make assessments each day to check how many people being held by police could be taken to scheduled court hearings, be released on bail or have their cases delayed. Operation Early Dawn was last triggered by the Conservative government in May.

‘Murder Pod’ developed for ‘assisted dying’. Several arrested after woman dies in ‘suicide pod’ The latest model of the device – known as the Sarco – was displayed in Zurich in July Police in Switzerland made multiple arrests after a woman reportedly ended her life using a so-called suicide pod, in apparently the first case of its kind. Police in the Schaffhausen region said they arrested “several persons” on suspicion of inciting, and aiding and abetting suicide after she died reportedly by using a pod made by the company Sarco on Monday. While assisted dying is legally protected in some circumstances in Switzerland, it is strictly regulated and the Sarco pod has encountered opposition. Officers recovered the device and body at the scene. The company behind the controversial pod says it can be solely operated by the person seeking to end their own life, without medical supervision. Police said it was used on Monday at a forest hut in the Merishausen area, a sparsely populated part of Switzerland on the German border. Police said they were tipped off by a law firm about a suicide involving the device. The number of people arrested and their identities were not disclosed. The deceased also was not named. In July, a pro-assisted dying group, which promotes the Sarco device, said it anticipated that it would be used for the first time this year. Advocates say it provides an option not reliant on drugs ordoctors, and that it expands access to euthanasia as the portable device can be 3D-printed and assembled at home. However, there also has been opposition in Switzerland, despite the country having some of the world’s most protective laws surrounding assisted dying. Critics fear the device’s modern design glamorises suicide and the fact that it can be operated without medical oversight is concerning. Assisted dying is illegal in the UK and in most other European countries, but thousands have travelled to Switzerland over the years to end their own lives….

Labour MP Kim Leadbeater, who came first in the Private Members’ Bill ballot, announced yesterday that she would be introducing an assisted suicide Bill could be voted on before Christmas. Though details of the Bill have not yet been released reports suggest it is likely to be similar to Lord Falconer’s assisted suicide Bill in the House of Lords, which is his seventh attempt to change the law on assisted suicide. The announcement comes after it was reported that the Prime Minister was behind the Government approaching Labour MPs high up in the Private Members’ Bill ballot encouraging them to take forward a Bill on assisted suicide.

MAJOR GAP IN THE PROVISION OF PALLIATIVE CARE SERVICES IN THE UNITED KINGDOM The introduction of the Bill comes as many elderly people go into winter with their Winter Fuel Payment cut by the Government, as palliative care services are in crisis with 100,000 people dying each year needing palliative care but not receiving it, and a wider healthcare system also in a state of crisis, with Labour’s own Health Secretary describing the NHS as “broken”. According to Marie Curie’s Better End of Life Report 2024 “It is estimated that each year across the UK, 100,000 people die needing palliative care but not receiving it. People with lower socio-economic position, non-cancer diagnoses, and from ethnic minority groups are less likely to access high-quality palliative care”. According to Hospice UK, the UK hospice sector is facing a collective estimated deficit of £77 million in the financial year 2023-24. Demand for palliative care is set to increase. In 20 years’ time, there are expected to be 100,000 more people dying each year in the United Kingdom. Analysis by Marie Curie shows that by 2048, the number of people with palliative care needs in the UK will climb by more than 147,000 to over 730,000. Matthew Reed, chief executive of Marie Curie said the findings from the survey show that “care for dying people is in crisis”. A YouGov poll commissioned by King’s College London shows that 65% of the general population are worried about access to palliative and end-of-life care and 41% think there is too little NHS resource allocated to palliative care. PEOPLE WITH DISABILITIES AND DOCTORS OPPOSED TO ASSISTED SUICIDE No major disability advocate groups in the UK – including Disability Rights UK, Scope and Not Dead Yet – support a change in the law to introduce assisted suicide or euthanasia. Polling commissioned by Scope showed that the majority of people with disabilities (64%) – including nearly three-quarters (72%) of young disabled people – are concerned about moves to legalise assisted suicide. Nearly two-thirds (62%) of people with disabilities who were concerned about a change in the law were worried that pressure would be put on disabled people to end their lives prematurely. No doctors’ groups in the UK support changing the law to introduce assisted suicide or euthanasia, including the British Medical Association, the Royal College of General Practitioners, the Royal College of Physicians, the British Geriatric Society, and the Association for Palliative Medicine. In particular, there is strong opposition to introducing assisted suicide from doctors who specialise in working with people with incurable conditions at the end of their life. A survey of palliative care doctors who are members of the Association for Palliative Medicine found that 82% oppose the introduction of assisted suicide. The results of the Association for Palliative Medicine survey have been mirrored in a more recent survey of doctors by the British Medical Association, which found that 83% of palliative care doctors oppose a change in the law to introduce assisted suicide, while only 6% supported such a change.

Increasingly, Patel was left with an unsettling thought: Could the coronavirus be inflaming the embers of cancer? The uptick in aggressive, late-stage cancers since the dawn of the pandemic is confirmed by some early national data and a number of large cancer institutions. Many experts have mostly dismissed the trend as an expected consequence of disruptions to health care that began in 2020. The group’s loosely affiliated members are launching research studies that are trying to piece together the puzzle of coronavirus infection, long covid and cancer. Wallace — the University of Pennsylvania scientist considered a father of the field of human mitochondrial genetics, which explores the power plants that fuel human cells — is researching how covid affects energy production in cells and how that might influence cancer vulnerability. Separately, biodata experts are sequencing the gene profiles of organs from people who succumbed to covid and underwent autopsies. And a University of Colorado team is studying whether covid reawakens dormant cancer cells in mice. Their provocative findings, according to a preprint report released in April, showed that when mice that were cancer survivors were infected with SARS-CoV-2, dormant cancer cells proliferated in the lungs. They saw similar results with the flu virus. Pathologists from the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences reported in 2021 in the journal Communications Biology that SARS-CoV-2 proteins fueled the replication of a herpesvirus considered one of the major viruses leading to cancer. Other studies have implicated the coronavirus in helping to stimulate dormant breast cancer cells. A paper published in 2023 in the journal Biochimie explored mechanisms the coronavirus could exploit to aggravate several forms of cancer, including lung, colorectal, pancreatic and oral. Researchers suggested the most likely pathway was through disrupting the body’s ability to suppress tumors, but researchers acknowledged a lack of direct evidence to support the theory.

The women decided it was time to fight back.? “Had I known that he was an undercover police officer at the time, it would’ve had a devastating effect on me and I would’ve regarded it as rape. He was wearing a mask. I didn’t know who he was. I wouldn’t have consented to have sex with this man. So in that sense, it’s non-consensual. New Spycops Inquiry delay is ‘pandering to the abusers’ as ‘timescales keep slipping’ The Undercover Policing Inquiry was due to restart this week. But authorities have postponed it yet again. In a Campaign Opposing Police Surveillance (COPS) press release, the group said “the latest delays are symptoms of fundamental problems” with what has turned the Spycops Inquiry into “one of the longest public inquiries in UK history”. The massive scandal of decades of anti-left political policing As Madoc Roberts, one of the film-makers behind the Spies Who Ruined Our Lives documentary, previously told the Canary: unless you joined all the dots together, you wouldn’t have known that this was political policing, until you discover that it’s 1,000 groups and that all the groups just happened to be left-wing. He also insisted about Spycops: I think it is one of the biggest scandals that we’ve seen. But the irony of it all is it just gets treated as ‘a story for today, a story for this week’, and then it’s dropped again and then it’s dropped again. Yet it started in 1968, and we’re only getting to know about it in the last 10 years or so. It’s a massive scandal. A lack of resources, and a lack of time for Spycops Inquiry As COPS explained in its press release about the latest Spycops Inquiry delay: Established in 2014 with completion promised by 2017, it took the UCPI until 2020 to hear the first evidence. Four years later, it is not half way through evidential hearings, and doubts are mounting that the UCPI can even fulfill its Terms of Reference. It continued by insisting that: The Inquiry’s internal disorder is such that disclosure remains unfinished and timetables are yet to be published for the next hearings.

Speaking to diplomats from G7 countries in Tokyo on Wednesday, Argamani detailed her ordeal after she was taken captive by Palestinian armed groups during the 7 October attack. However, two days later, she issued a statement on Instagram, saying that some of her remarks had been misquoted and taken out of context. Contrary to some Israeli media reports, Argamani clarified that she was not beaten or had her hair shaved by Palestinian fighters. Through her Instagram page, Argamani clarified that the Qassam Brigades did not harm her physically or cut her hair, but she sustained injuries when a wall collapsed during an Israeli airstrike. “I cannot stay silent about what the Israeli media has done to me over the past 24 hours, taking my words out of context,” she stated, adding: “I am a victim of the October 7 operation, and I refuse to be victimized again by the Israeli media.” Argamani explained that Al-Qassam members “did not hit me while I was in captivity, nor did they cut my hair.”

The family’s car was attacked, killing the adults inside. Hind and her 15-year-old cousin survived, before the vehicle was attacked again. An ambulance that went to help the girls was also attacked, killing two paramedics. Israel denied its military was in the area, but a Sky News investigation tells a different story.

One year of Israel’s Gaza Genocide 3: Piers Morgan interviewing Low Key – they disagree on events of October 7. British rapper Lowkey’s music has been entwined with activism since he first picked up a mic, and true to form, he joins Piers Morgan Uncensored with political fire in his belly. Openly anti-Zionist and pro-Palestine, Lowkey lays the blame for the ongoing conflict in the Middle East squarely at the feet of Israel. Piers Morgan counters, saying that both Hamas and Hezbollah are fully committed to the destruction of the Jewish state, and their attacks would inevitably draw an IDF response. This isn’t some unfortunate incident, this was an assassination attempt by a madman inspired by the rhetoric of the radical left.” Just last Monday, President Biden himself said it’s “time to put Trump in a bullseye” in a now-wince-inducing quote from a private call with hundreds of democratic donors, Politico reported at the time. The unfortunate wording brought to mind remarks NY Democratic Rep. Dan Goldman made last November in an MSNBC interview with former White House press secretary Jen Psaki, saying Trump should be “eliminated” over his alleged role in the Jan. 6, 2021 Capitol riot. “It is just unquestionable at this point that man cannot see public office again. He is not only unfit, he is destructive to our democracy, and he has to be eliminated,” the District 10 representative said. Goldman later walked back his remarks in a post on X, saying he doesn’t condone “political violence.” The official Biden-Harris HQ account also made a post on X in December with the heading “Trump Parrots Hitler” featuring a series of images of Trump and Hitler’s faces juxtaposed with quotes from each, which the campaign alleged were similar. Casually comparing the former president to history’s greatest monster was apparently also a favorite pastime inside the Biden White House. Young staffers including aides to President Biden have reportedly taken to calling Trump “Hitler Pig” behind closed doors.

Mr. Lavrov said President Vladimir Putin had a “realistic settlement plan” and was prepared to negotiate, blaming the West for sabotaging previous attempts. He said the attempt by the Washington-London-Brussels axis to defeat Russia was nullifying the UN’s attempts to enhance global cooperation through agreements such as Sunday’s Pact for the Future – which Russia refused to back – and was “blocking the functioning of the entire system of global governance, including the Security Council.” “That’s not something we chose and we’re not responsible for the consequences of this dangerous course,” he added.

According to a United Nations inquiry released this month, over 80 percent of the 6,106 protesters wounded in the first nine months of the Great March of Return were shot in the lower limbs. Israeli soldiers intentionally shot civilians and may have committed war crimes in their heavy-handed response to the protests, which have been held regularly across Gaza since 30 March 2018, the report concluded. Healthcare providers say the pattern of wounds shows that Israeli soldiers are purposefully shooting to maim protesters, most of whom are in their 20s and now require long-term medical care. “The soldier knows exactly where he’s putting the bullet. This is not random. This is very intimate. This is very planned,” said Ghassan Abu Sitta, professor of surgery at the American University of Beirut (AUB), who treated injured protesters for three weeks at Gaza’s Al-Awda Hospital last May. “When you have such a huge number of almost identical injuries, where many of the patients were 150 metres away, not in direct contact with the Israeli soldiers, you realise that this is an intentional policy rather than collateral damage,” Abu Sitta told MEE…

They also requested we relocate from some of our positions,” the UN Interim Force in Lebanon (Unifil) said. “Peacekeepers remain in all positions and the UN flag continues to fly. “We are regularly adjusting our posture and activities, and we have contingency plans ready to activate if absolutely necessary,” it added. Israel has intensified its campaign against Lebanese militant group Hezbollah since Sept 23, killing more than 1,110 people and forcing hundreds of thousands to flee their homes in a country already mired in economic crisis. Israel said earlier this week that it would start carrying out limited ground incursions into south Lebanon. “We continue to urge Lebanon and Israel to recommit to Security Council resolution 1701 – in actions, not just word – as the only viable solution to bring back stability in the region,” Unifil said. On Saturday, the Israeli army posted a message on X, saying: “Hassan Nasrallah will no longer be able to terrorise the world.” The Arabic spokesman of the Israeli army, Avichay Adraee, also said in a statement on X that Nasrallah was killed alongside Ali Karki, the commander of Hezbollah’s southern front, as well as a number of other commanders. “The message is clear: we will reach everyone who threatens the citizens of Israel in the north, in the south and on more distant fronts.” Later, Hezbollah said in a statement: “His eminence, the master of resistance, the righteous servant, has passed away to be with his lord who is pleased with him as a great martyr. “The leadership of Hezbollah pledges… to continue its jihad in confronting the enemy [Israel], supporting Gaza and Palestine and defending Lebanon and its steadfast and honourable people.” The statement did not mention who would succeed Nasrallah or how the group would respond to the assassination of its long-time leader. According to analysts, the man widely regarded as Nasrallah’s heir, Hashem Safieddine, was still alive after Friday’s attack. Safieddine, who oversees Hezbollah’s political affairs and sits on the group’s Jihad Council, is a cousin of Nasrallah. Like Nasrallah, he is a cleric and descendant of the Prophet Muhammad. The US State Department designated Safieddine a terrorist in 2017, and in June, he threatened a big escalation against Israel after the killing of another Hezbollah commander. Khamenei urges Muslims to confront Israel Earlier on Saturday, Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei urged all Muslims to stand by the people of Lebanon and assist Hezbollah in confronting Israel’s “wicked regime”.

There have also been Israeli aerial attacks on locations closer to the centre of the city. A strike on an apartment block close to the Lebanese parliament building on 2 October killed several people, including rescue officers and paramedics, according to Beirut’s civil defence.

Netanyahu was reported that morning by Amy Teibel on Associated Press’ Jerusalem Desk to have ‘changed plans due to a warning’ from Scotland Yard, and thankfully Bibi had not left his hotel. The Israeli embassy have since denied having any warning but Israeli government Press Officer Dan Sheham told journalists, including the Scottish Sunday Herald’s foreign affairs editor David Pratt, embassy security was ‘beefed up’ around 7am that day. The four simultaneous bombs, three on tube trains and one on a bus were supposed to have been a surprise attack. An Israeli firm also had access to London’s tube tunnels, winning a CCTV contract when parts of the Underground were privatised a few months before the attacks. Verint Systems looked like a good bet but someone didn’t do due diligence because the fraudster chairman Kobi Alexander, of Verint’s parent company, Comverse Technologies, was on the run. He was evading the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) somewhere in Africa after disappearing with $13m of company money….

Establishment media outlets like the BBC are weaponising the language of their reporting against audiences no less effectively than Israel weaponised primitive pieces of technology against the people of Lebanon. Thousands of Lebanese were maimed by exploding pagers and walkie-talkies last week. Likewise, the media coverage is mangling the ability of western publics to understand how and why Israel is dangerously stoking fires across the region. Words like “audacious”, “escalation” and “targets” have become tools to conceal meaning, not to illuminate – and for good reason. Because Israel’s actions are so obviously criminal, so obviously horrifying, so obviously genocidal. Language becomes a weapon to hide the truth. The media chorus goes like this: Israel is attacking Lebanon to stop Hezbollah rocket fire and allow the residents of Israel’s most northerly communities to return home. Or in the blunter, Orwellian language of Israeli officials framing this horror show: Israel must “escalate to de-escalate”. Lebanese civilians are paying the heaviest price: some 550 of them were killed in the first day of Israel’s bombing campaign alone. Many tens of thousands have been driven – ethnically cleansed – from the territory of south Lebanon. Why? Because, says Israel, Hezbollah has hidden its cache of rockets in their homes. Those homes must therefore be destroyed. Strangely, Hezbollah seems to have forgotten that it has extensive rocky terrain across south Lebanon where it could more safely and wisely hide its arsenal. If this story sounds familiar, that’s because it is. It is the same script used to justify the slaughter in Gaza. Then, the media mindlessly reheated Israeli talking points about Israel destroying Gaza to “eliminate Hamas”. Some 2.3 million Palestinians needed to be forced out of their homes for their own safety, even as Israel killed them in those very “safe zones”. Then, as now, the media subjected us to Israeli CGI-generated propaganda videos of underground “control and command centres” supposedly under hospitals and other vital infrastructure Israel wanted destroyed. This time the media are uncritically broadcasting no less ridiculous Israeli propaganda videos of Hezbollah rockets stashed in Lebanese living rooms.

The Parliamentary Assembly includes lawmakers from 46 European countries. A group of supporters, holding a banner that said “Thank you, Julian” greeted Assange as he stepped out of a van smiling and raising his fist in defiance along with his wife, Stella, and WikiLeaks editor-in-chief, Kristinn Hrafnsson. “Assange is free! We are here. The world is with you,” one supporter shouted before Assange entered the Council of Europe building early Tuesday. “I am not free today because the system worked,” Assange said. “I am free today after years of incarceration because I pled guilty to journalism.” He added: “I pled guilty to seeking information from a source. I pled guilty to obtaining information from a source. And I pled guilty to informing the public what that information was.” Assange was released in June after five years in a British prison after he pleaded guilty to obtaining and publishing U.S. military secrets in a deal with Justice Department prosecutors that concluded a drawn-out legal saga. Prior to his time in prison, he had spent seven years in self-imposed exile in the Ecuadorian Embassy in London, where he claimed asylum on the grounds of political persecution. Israel and Iran have issued threats of retaliation if attacked as the United Nations Security Council convened amid concerns of a broader conflict in the Middle East. The council met following Israel’s assassination of the leader of Lebanon’s Hezbollah and its subsequent ground assault on the Iran-backed militant group. In response, Iran launched a missile strike on Israel. – – What Russia wants from Israel-Iran escalation: Chaos good, war bad Russia is dependent on Iran for military support in Ukraine, but has had complex ties with Hezbollah. Anna Levina, a Russian researcher and photographer-documentarian living in Beirut, has been stocking up on supplies in preparation for Israel’s assault on Lebanon, and she still has non-perishables sitting in her kitchen since last October, when Hezbollah and Israel started firing missiles at each other. “The feeling is, of course, unpleasant, but I’ve been waiting for this moment for a year,” said Levina, of the dramatic escalation in Israeli missile strikes on many parts of Lebanon, including Beirut, over the past two weeks, in which more than 2,000 people have been killed. On Tuesday, Israel also announced the start of ground operations in southern Lebanon, where its forces have since been locked in combat with Hezbollah fighters. Levina spoke of how Israel was “bombing residential buildings, and just now there was another air strike three kilometres from me on some medical centre.” “It is difficult to cope with this on a human level,” she said. Community all my best friends are Jewish growing up and I’ve always seen like the Star of David that is a lot of Jewish people wear as a necklace you know and I thought that that was Associated traditionally somehow with Judaism and so I was very surprised and I will ask the question do you know the history of the Star of David why why is it being called the Star of David? and I’m just going to just show you guys this straight up on Wikipedia so if there’s like if it’s on Wikipedia basically after they’ve obscured everything that just must mean that it’s just such an irreversible fact because you wouldn’t even want to admit this but this is what the entry shows you about the Star of David because it’s it’s actually a very recent thing that has been adopted from the Jewish Community okay it’s not something stem stemming uh from the early from the from the ancient times and this is exactly what it reads it reads that it is a derivative of the Seal of Sol Solomon was used for decorative and mystical purposes by Muslims and cabalistic Jews I want you to remember that okay so it’s a derivative of the Seal of Solomon King Solomon was used for decorative and mystical purposes by Muslims and cabalistic Jews it also goes on to say that only around one Millennium later did the star begin to be used as a symbol to identify Jewish communities a tradition that seems to have started in Prague before the 17th century I want you remember that as well and from there spread to much of Eastern Europe in the 19th century it became it came to be adopted by European Jews as a symbol to represent Jewish religion or identity in the same manner the Christian cross identified the religions Believers the symbol became representative of the worldwide Zionist Community after it was chosen as the central symbol on a flag at the first Zionist Congress in 1897 so this is a recent symbol but I’m going to show you that there is a mention of that star it is called something else in the Bible it is referred to and I’m going to just dig this up for you something that is known as the star of Ren in the Bible okay and I’m going to show you that star right now here’s a picture of it oh you can see if you’re if you’re Jewish you’re going that’s the that’s the Star of David you can see on that left side there by the way um that you you see a goat and you see it looks like a pharaoh up top there so you’re going okay I don’t associate this with Judaism whatsoever and in the Bible here’s where it’s mentioned it says ye took up the Tabernacle of molok and the star of your God Ron figures which ye made to worship them and I will carry you away Beyond Babylon it’s also referenced later it says ye have borne the Tabernacle of your molok and your Chen your images the star of your God which ye made to yourself so what is this referring to it’s referring to the ancient Canaanites

Who was Bill Cooper? William Cooper was reared in an Air Force family. As a child he lived in many different countries, graduating from Yamato High School in Japan. Since he has traveled through or lived in many different foreign countries Mr. Cooper has a world view much different than most Americans. William served with the Strategic Air Command, United States Air Force. He held a secret clearance working on B-52 bombers, KC-135 refuelling aircraft, and Minuteman missiles. William received his Honorable Discharge from the United States Air Force in 1965. William joined the United States Navy fulfilling a dream previously frustrated by chronic motion sickness. He served aboard the submarine USS Tiru (SS-416), USS Tombigbee (AOG-11), Naval Support Activity Danang RVN, Naval Security and Intelligence Camp Carter RVN, Danang Harbor Patrol RVN, Dong Ha River Security Group RVN, USS Charles Berry (DE-1035), Headquarters Commander in Chief Pacific Fleet, USS Oriskany (CVA-34). Cooper was a member of the Office of Naval Security and Intelligence serving as a Harbor and River Patrol Boat Captain at Danang and the Dong Ha River Security Group, Cua Viet, Republic of Vietnam. William Cooper was awarded several medals for his leadership and heroism during combat including two with “V” for Valor. He served on the Intelligence Briefing Team for the Commander In Chief of the Pacific Fleet. William was the Petty Officer of the Watch and designated KL-47 SPECAT operator in the CINCPACFLT Command Center at Makalapa Hawaii. There he held a Top Secret, Q, SI, security clearance. William Cooper achieved the rank of First Class Petty Officer, QM1, E-6 after only 8 years of Naval service, a difficult task in any branch of the United States military. William Cooper received an Honorable Discharge from the United States Navy on December 11, 1975.

Look, I have set before you an open door, which no one is able to shut. I know that you have but little power, and yet you have kept my word and have not denied my name. I will make those of the synagogue of Satan who say that they are Jews and are not, but are lying—I will make them come and bow down before your feet, and they will learn that I have loved you.” —Revelation 3:7–9
