UKs debt increasing under Rachel Reeves. Trump’s tariffs. Modern Monetary Theory – Michael Hudson. Brexit didn’t make much difference to UK economy.  Reeves cannot blame Trump for British growth downgrade, warns IMF Chancellor vows to defend British interests in Washington as UK economic forecasts slashed Szu Ping Chan Britain’s growth prospects have been cut by the International Monetary Fund (IMF) as it warned Rachel Reeves could not blame Donald Trump’s trade war for the downturn. The IMF said UK government policies were stoking price pressures and would push Britain’s inflation rate to the highest in the G7. It means inflation in the UK will outstrip the US rate even as the president continues his tariffs onslaught. Pierre Olivier Gourinchas, the IMF chief economist, said “domestic factors” were the main driver behind Britain’s downgrade, signalling that the Chancellor’s £40bn tax raid had damaged growth. The UK is now expected to grow by 1.1pc this year and 1.4pc in 2026, down from projections of 1.6pc and 1.5pc just three months ago. In a further blow to Labour’s ambition to boost living standards, the IMF also said that GDP per head – a better proxy than overall growth – would almost stagnate this year and barely rise in 2026. Mr Gourinchas said: “The tariffs are playing a role as they are in most countries, and it’s weighing down on growth in the UK. But there are some UK specific factors, and I would say in terms of the [downgrade for 2025] domestic factors are probably the biggest ones.” Mr Gourinchas said “weaker growth in the second half of last year” was still weighing on the economy, noting that long-term borrowing costs had also climbed. Gilt yields rose in the wake of Ms Reeves’s maiden budget after the Chancellor announced debt-fuelled spending increases of £70bn a year. The Fund also downgraded its global growth projections over the next two years, warning that the trade war could wipe as much as $1 trillion (£750bn) off the world economy. The IMF said higher prices owing to steep increases in energy, water and council tax bills would weigh on consumer spending. While the Fund said the impact of recent tariff announcements would weigh on growth, it added that “an increase in gilt yields, and weaker private consumption amid higher inflation as a result of regulated prices and energy costs” for the decision to cut its UK growth forecasts.

Was Robin Cook’s death suspicious?  To the Attorney-General of the UK The Rt.Hon Richard Hermer KC re: the absence of a proper inquest into the death of David Kelly CMG DSc in July 2003 Published: 22 July 2024 Dear Lord Hermer First, I would like to offer my congratulations on your recent appointment to the post of Attorney-General. I write to you in this regard. On 17 February 2009 you invited me, together with some other doctors, to visit you at Doughty Street chambers to discuss the death of Dr David Kelly. We set out our concerns about the manner in which the state had dealt with this tragedy and explained to you our doubts that it was investigated rigorously. As you know, the coroner’s inquest into Dr Kelly’s death was – uniquely – subsumed into the ad hoc inquiry chaired by Lord Hutton, who concluded that Dr Kelly took his own life in July 2003. This is the only time in British legal history that a coroner’s inquest into a single death has been adjourned using Section 17A of the 1988 Coroners Act so that a non-statutory public inquiry could be held instead. The lawful process of the opening of a coroner’s inquest did not happen. The cart was put before a well tried and respected horse. Careful analysis over many years by the group of doctors of which I was a member – plus the work of various lawyers, parliamentarians and investigative journalists – has found how woefully inadequate Lord Hutton’s non-statutory public inquiry was. To name just a handful of its deficiencies: Lord Hutton failed to call key witnesses to give evidence to his inquiry; yet those witnesses who were called were not required to give evidence on oath. We now know that there were no fingerprints on the knife Kelly allegedly used to end his life – even though he wasn’t wearing gloves on the day his body was found. (This was never mentioned at the Hutton Inquiry even though it was known to Thames Valley Police at the time the Hutton Inquiry hearings took place). Lord Hutton spent only half a day of the 24 days on which his inquiry sat examining the medical evidence relating to Dr Kelly’s death. And Lord Hutton failed to consider the crucial matter – incumbent upon every coroner – of whether Dr Kelly intended to commit suicide. I must stress that the above list is not exhaustive. It is designed to underscore the point that, legally speaking, Lord Hutton’s ad hoc inquiry was less independent and less thorough than a coroner’s inquest would have been, with disastrous results. The high bar that a coroner would have had to clear in order to reach a suicide finding in the matter of Dr Kelly’s death was simply absent from the Hutton Inquiry. When we met you at your chambers in 2009, we were being helped pro bono by Leigh Day & Co. Knowing you to be a man of truth and integrity, Frances Swaine, of that firm, advised us to consult you. Your sympathetic view was that we should focus on the first cause of death advanced by Lord Hutton – “haemorrhage from a cut left ulnar artery” – as originally written by a Home Office pathologist, Dr Nicholas Hunt, and also to judicially review the then Attorney General, Baroness Scotland, rather than JR her refusal to instigate an inquest. You may know that with wide public support a hearing was eventually held at the High Court in December 2011 – Halpin v Regina. In total, about five hours were spent in plea and defence. At the hearing’s conclusion, Mr Justice Nicol read out from 19 pages of text and determined that the Attorney General of the day – Dominic Grieve – had been right to refuse an inquest into Dr Kelly’s death in 2011. And there, the matter of Dr Kelly’s unnatural death has most unsatisfactorily remained, for Mr Grieve’s decision was no more than a distant echo of Lord Hutton’s original finding. I am aware that Britain’s legal system is facing many crises, especially in the criminal and family justice courts and in terms of prison capacity. Yet public trust in our country’s law enforcement, and what follows in the courts, has withered. Specifically, many British citizens – including some Appeal Court judges – do not believe that Dr Kelly’s death was adequately investigated at Lord Hutton’s inquiry. This has left a cloud of suspicion hanging over this troubling and vital matter. For this reason I am calling upon you to kindly consider allowing a full coroner’s inquest into Dr Kelly’s death to be held in order to resolve this situation for once and for all. My understanding is that you alone as Attorney-General, has the power to do this. I revere ‘the law’ and quote from your speech of yesterday in the Royal Courts of Justice. “Being in government is a privilege that carries the responsibility of having to make hard choices but as we face the challenging path ahead the rule of law will be the lodestar for this government.” * Yours sincerely, David Halpin MB BS FRCS Dartmoor

To lose their empire would be the worst possible humiliation.’ This adolescent distaste for the British character certainly didn’t stop him availing himself of the fine education that was on offer in this country, or spending the rest of his life here. ‘The Englishman is a rabid nationalist. To lose their empire would be the worst possible humiliation.’ Quickly learning English, he got a place at the London School of Economics (LSE), which had then moved temporarily to Cambridge to avoid the bombing, and there he was taught politics by Harold Laski, a giant of Labour’s Left, whom some Tories considered to be a dangerous Marxist revolutionary. Laski was Miliband’s mentor, his inspiration, the figure who encouraged his growing interest in Karl Marx. Ralph Miliband then served three years in the Royal Navy, returning when the war was over to his studies at the LSE, and within a few years was teaching there himself. He was already on his way to becoming a heavyweight thinker in the kind of political and academic circles whose pronouncements often attracted attention. Joyfully, Miliband described Labour’s 1945 post-war election victory as ‘the country’s capture from its traditional rulers’. He relished what he called the ‘genuine sense of outrage . . . of bourgeois England’, adding that ‘the nationalisation proposals of the government were designed to achieve the sole purpose of improving the efficiency of a capitalist economy’.

He said Francis “was a very humble servant of the Lord”. “All the time he told us, for this period – more than one year and a half, and he called every day, every day – he asked to help people, to protect the children,” Father Romanelli added. ‘Heartbroken’ Paying tribute to Pope Francis, George Antone, head of the emergency committee at the Holy Family Church, told the Reuters news agency: “We lost a saint who taught us every day how to be brave, how to keep patient and stay strong. “We lost a man who fought every day in every direction to protect this small herd of his. “We are heartbroken because of the death of Pope Francis, but we know that he is leaving behind a church that cares for us and that knows us by name – every single one of us. “He used to tell each one: I am with you, don’t be afraid.” The Hamas-run Gaza health ministry said more than 50,000 people have been killed. The health ministry does not distinguish between civilians and combatants in its count. Throughout the war, the Pope has condemned both Hamas and Israeli attacks and called for an immediate ceasefire and for a two-state solution.

UK MPs report on their trip to Israel/Palestine – shocked by apartheid system and settler behaviour. Frank Mc Guinness – de-proscribe Hamas. Conclusion: Zionism is and always has been a staggering affront to Palestinian dignity, and Hamas is a natural and logical part of the response to it. If Hamas did not exist today, Palestinians would invent it. Britain has obligations under international law, outlined above, to prevent and end genocide, occupation and apartheid. In breach of those obligations, Britain has continued its longstanding support for Zionism and the Zionist State. This application presents a historic opportunity to depart from that tradition and choose the right side of history. The deproscription of Hamas is a concrete step which the Secretary of State can take to start to apply pressure on the Zionist State to cease its genocidal violence, end its occupation, and dismantle its apartheid regime. The designation of the entirety of Hamas has helped to curtail progress towards peace as it marginalised a key actor to the conflict, prevented any chance of meaningful dialogue with the de facto authorities on the ground, highlighted the hypocrisy of the West regarding democracy and human rights, and overall contributed to the pressure-cooker conditions that led to the explosion of violence on 7 October 2023. But even if the Secretary of State continues British support for the Zionist State, she should stop criminalising the open discussion of and support for the right to self-determination of the Palestinian people and the use of armed struggle pursuant to that right by Hamas. The censoring of views and information with which the Secretary of State disagrees runs against all notions of the rights to free speech and freedom of assembly. Indeed, using the criminal law to silence those on the other side of a political debate is an affront to self-professed British values of individual liberty and the rule of law. For all the reasons set out above, the Secretary of State is invited to reverse course and deproscribe Hamas.

Evidence Israel has been using illegal Depleted Uranium warheads in Beirut against Lebanon: Dr. Chris Busby has tested samples of dust from Lebanon where Nasrallah was killed – and it contains Uranium! Depleted Uranium toxic. Patrizia Opulenza poem. Dr Chris Busby: Uranium hot particles found in Israel Lebanon bomb debris from Dahiye (Nasrallah) site – Soil samples from the site of the Israeli bombing of the Dahiye Beirut Lebanon bunker where Hassan Nasrallah was killed in September 2024 were analysed using CR39 Alpha Track imaging plastic for a 30 day exposure.  Results showed the presence of Uranium hot particles. These particles are shown as CR39 images, and the method of analysis is described by Dr Busby.  He also discusses the importance of the existence of these Uranium weapons residues in the air as a both a local and global public health (cancer and genetic damage) issue. A scientific report is to be found on www.researchgate.com and www.academia.edu. The analysis shows for the first time scientific evidence that micron-sized Uranium particles, created by the use of Uranium weapons, are self re-suspended and become aerosolised, something that Dr Busby has argued since he gave evidence to the UK Royal Society in 2001. This explains the detection of Uranium particles from the 2003 Gulf war in the Atomic Weapons Aldermaston air filters in the UK at the time of the USA bombing of Iraq.

Chris Busby’s expert report: Summary, Conclusions and recommendations This report provides evidence confirming the presence of alpha emitting Uranium hot particles in soil samples from the Israeli bombing of Hassan Nasrallah in Beirut on Sept 27th 2024. This also supports earlier work by Green Audit and others that point to the use of a novel weapon which employs Uranium and may produce or incorporate Enriched Uranium. The decays from the particles imaged which are in the respirable range (<10 micron), and become resuspended, would cause energy deposition to the cells within range of the 4-micron alpha tracks of about 200mGy or 2.4 Sieverts. Such doses are able to kill cells, cause genetic mutations and cancer. The results show for the first time that such radioactive alpha emitting particles become airborne through resuspension in the absence of any wind, and re-precipitate on clean surfaces. The nature of the weapon is unknown without further work on the isotopic ratios and the presence of other elements in the soil samples from the site. What can be concluded is that the weapon employed Uranium and left Uranium particle residues. Further work on these samples and those obtained from Gaza will be reported. The CR39 method is shown to provide a simple, inexpensive and highly sensitive way of analysing soil samples for hot particles. This means that reliance on expensive tests (ICPMS, alpha spectrometry, gamma spectrometry) is not necessary to prove that such weapons have been deployed. Green Audit has increasingly found that pressure is brought to bear on independent laboratories to provide misleading or biased results. In many cases, the laboratories refuse to provide such results (as was the case with Dr Abboud and the French CRIIRAD laboratory). Furthermore, the cost of laboratory tests (in the region of 300$ per sample) is currently beyond the means of Green Audit or those who are interested in examining samples from war zones. It is recommended that independent analysis is carried out of samples from the site, and other sites in Lebanon and Gaza where Israel has deployed novel warheads and that the public in these areas are warned of the health consequences resulting from inhalation of resuspended particles. Epidemiological studies in Iraq have already found significant excess genetic effects in local populations from the use of Uranium weapons. Particularly worrying is the evidence that a novel warhead which employs or produces EU has been deployed for some 20 years.

Joy Warren, from Fluoride Free UK Alliance, on how fluoride in water is very bad for the health, with a study showing it reduces a babies IQ. The intelligence of the unborn child and infant is reduced from over-exposure to fluoride in the womb and when drinking baby formula made up with fluoridated tap water. The expectant mum does not know to avoid fluoride because the NHS is in favour of the element for the reduction of tooth decay. Consequently, nothing on the NHS Choices website discourages the use of [fluoride/fluoridated] tap water. Unfortunately, this is junk science. Why expose the foetus and infant to a developmental neurotoxin when they have no erupted teeth? Why overexpose the infant to a developmental toxin which is found in a very minute amount in human breast milk. Breast milk provides everything a baby needs – and fluoride is not one of them. It is truly a case of the baby being thrown out with the bath water! Is it morally ethical to disregard the future prospects of the fluoridated baby for the sake of shoring up this erroneous and outdated dental fashion sponsored by dental health professionals who have no grounding in biochemistry and toxicology? We feel justified in accusing our politicians of causing brain damage to past, current and future generations of young people in complete denial of the facts. It appears that the current push to fluoridate the nation has been urged by the Chief Dental and Chief Medical Health Officers of England as a ploy to disguise the impending failure of NHS dentistry. (See Home > Editorial) When growing a baby, it is best to avoid the following: Fluoridated water Tap water containing chlorine Manufactured foods made with fluoridated water Tea which has varying amounts of fluoride depending on the age of the leaves. (See Resources, Drop-Down Menu for a list of teas.) Fluoride toothpaste unless a very tiny amount is used and is not swallowed Pharmaceutical drugs containing fluoride Bathing in hot fluoridated water – this challenges the endocrine system. Bathing in hot natural fluoride water – this challenges the endocrine system When nurturing the infant, it is best to avoid: Fluoridated water for making up baby formula Minimal exposure to bathing in fluoridated tap water. Bottled or distilled water are safer options. It is calculated that baby loses between 5 – 7 IQ points between conception and weaning if exposed to fluoride at 1mg fluoride/litre. Busting the Fluoride Myth We imagine that the scarcity of books written by pro-fluoridationists is indicative of the paucity of facts that they are able to present to the public. Those who sponsor Water Fluoridation depend on politicians believing them when they say that WF is safe and effective and that it reduces dental decay by 20% or 25% or 30% or 35% or 40% or 45% ……. Since they cannot make up their minds, that indicates that there are no dependable high-quality studies on this topic. Of greater importance is their inability to provide any research which proves that swallowing fluoride is safe. Public Health England have to publish “health monitoring” reports every 4 years. All three reports in 2014, 2018 and 2022 were PHE’s attempt to defend the undefensible. It was a conservative uh prime minister in England uh Benjamin Israeli that said health everything is health Wanted to pro make sure that everybody was healthy because that’s more productive Well just imagine today uh uh the 18% and rising of America’s GDP just goes for health insurance and health care and it’s among the worst in the world in terms of performance Uh the student debt is very high the uh the uh common aim of classical economics in from England to the United States was well you want to keep housing costs low so that uh labor can afford to get housing and won’t have to insist on wages that are high enough to pay housing that’s bid up uh on credit for higher and higher uh housing uh mortgage debt Uh so housing costs were kept low The whole idea of classical value theory was uh to bring market prices down to the actual cost value and value and that value uh included labor’s wages and the profits of industry because you have to make a profit and industry used that to reinvest and expanding But uh the uh there over and above the actual cost of production was land rent monopoly rent and financial returns and uh as in the fire sector the finance insurance and real estate So uh the the whole idea of uh industrial development from Europe to the United States was to prevent a financial sector from developing And that’s why in America you had the Sherman antirust law in 1890 to prevent monopolies from being formed to increase the cost of living by creating monopoly goods And basically banks were viewed as the mother of trusts uh and uh you soon had Teddy Roosevelt become president and uh he was leading the Trustbusters He was helping break it all up Well what Trump wants to do is uh uh restore what he called the Gilded Age The aim of American protectionism was not to create a guilded age of very wealthy uh multi-millionaires dominating society That was considered the failure of the whole economic policy that underlay protectionism You didn’t want a class of idol rich making their money by financial means by monopoly and by real estate uh rents jacking up You wanted uh you wanted people to get rich by mu making factories to produce goods and services uh to com to export and uh to create an industrial society So what uh Trump wants to restore in the period in McKinley’s era uh he was elected in 1896 is uh everything that went wrong with uh the American industrial development not everything that went right with it uh the the what was what Henry Clay in the 1920s 1820s sorry called the American system that led to industrialization was protective tariffs internal improvements in other words public infrastructure the Erie canal transportation uh they said if there transportation communication uh other basic needs are uh natural monopolies uh and you don’t want monopolies uh to uh gain power because they’re if they’re privatized in private hands then they’re going to uh raise the prices and make monopoly rents If the government uh treats uh public uh in investment infrastructure investment internal improvements uh then public investment uh is provided basic services at low prices or even subsidized prices And so one of the leading protectionists was Simon Patton the first economics professor at the first business school in America the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania And uh Simon Patton said public infrastructure investment is like a fourth factor of production alongside labor capital uh and land which isn’t really a factor of production It’s a claim on production uh uh you have uh infrastructure but the aim of public infrastructure is different from owning land or owning uh industry and wanting more profits or um even uh wages wanting higher wages The idea of public infrastructure investment is not to make a profit but uh to lower the cost of living and the cost of doing business for the economy so that employers and labor do not have to pay monopoly rents uh to uh a rontier class Uh well Trump wants to uh create uh essentially to shift tax to apply tariffs his whole tariff policy is saying until 1913 America didn’t have an income tax

Downing Street sources say a reshuffle is planned in the fallout. High stakes for Darren… As ever with Labour figures their thinking is baked in during union activity. Jones’ is interesting… The treasury secretary served as official delegate for Unite South West Young Members back in 2011 and served on its executive, during which he filmed himself at the March for Alternative protests against Osborne’s budget cuts. Co-conspirators may remember that protest descended into violence with protestors “on the rampage, smashing windows and attacking property around Oxford Street” while battling riot police – though Jones was not involved in any violence. He described the large-scale public sector strikes that year as “brilliant.” How things change… At the same time Jones’ Unite executive sent a delegate to Cuba on a “solidarity trip” to stay in a “camp with comrades from every corner of the globe.” The conclusion Jones’ group officially drew was that “the very existence of the Cuban state, organized to a broad extent around socialist principles, offers confirmation that there can be alternatives to capitalism.” Darren’s current superior has a framed picture of a Soviet asset above her desk… Jones also wrote in the Advocate Socialist magazine in February of that year that private schools shouldn’t exist: “I fail to understand how anyone can see education and health as anything but core provision of the state and how others fail to see that, in these arenas, there is no room for shareholder profit and the harsh realities of the market.“ When it comes to immigration the chief secretary praised the courts for blocking Theresa May’s attempt to impose a temporary cap on non-EU immigrants – he said he “loves a good bit of judicial intervention” over that one. Meanwhile Jones wrote in the Plymouth Herald that all Brits “have an inbuilt sense of grandeur following our imperial past and that, with our current Government’s aversion to the European project, a tone of nationalism rests upon us all.” Not much funding for stopping the small boats in the spending review then… Jones is in charge of public spending for the entire UK which is 44% of the country’s GDP. Gulp…

France, UK preparing military intervention in Odessa — Foreign Ministry Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova dismissed the proposed “coalition of the willing” as nothing more than “a meme” MOSCOW, April 9. /TASS/. Paris and London are finalizing arrangements for a military intervention in Odessa, with talks occurring during a meeting of Western chiefs of general staff in Kiev, Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said at a briefing. Zakharova revealed that Ukrainian, British, and French military officials met in Kiev on April 4-5 to develop operational plans for what they referred to as a “multinational peacekeeping contingent” in Ukraine. “In reality, these discussions were focused on preparations for Franco-British military operations targeting Ukraine’s Black Sea ports, particularly Odessa,” the diplomat emphasized. Furthermore, the spokeswoman dismissed the proposed “coalition of the willing” as nothing more than “a meme.” These Kiev discussions followed earlier talks during a March 27 summit in Paris, where participants from the so-called coalition deliberated on post-conflict security guarantees for Ukraine, including potential military deployments. Notably absent from both meetings was the United States, whose support, according to media reports, is seen as essential by some potential contributors to any peacekeeping mission. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov warned on March 12 that Moscow would regard any NATO troop presence in Ukraine, irrespective of designation or scale, as an unacceptable threat to Russian security.

Oli Fletcher of Farming Explained video blog – Lady Balfour the Fascist founder… History of Organic Farming. Episode 21 – The Organic Movement. The rise of European Fascism inspired the British aristocracy to develop an ultra-conservative revolutionary movement intended to restore feudalism and return the aristocracy to their former position as the ‘ruling class’. William Sanderson established a racist, misogynistic critique of industrial society. Gerard Wallop, Viscount Lymington and later 9th Earl Portsmouth put his significant wealth behind the idea, giving rise to the English Mistery. The Mistery attempted to hijack the conservative party and install Lord Lloyd as a dictator. Upon failure, Lymington founds the English Array and Lady Eve Balfour’s estate becomes the Haughley Experiment, to defend their blood-and-soil ideology from scientific critique. Rolf Gardiner leads Kinship in Husbandry during the war, while Jorian Jenks is temporarily interned for being a threat to national security. After the war they found the Soil Association, which included Jenks and Gardiner who corresponded with Nazi Food and Agriculture Minister Richard Walter Darre after. The effects of this are discussed – the Sustainable Farming Incentive, the Land Recovery Schemes etc. We take a look at the Soil Association’s selective account of its own history, its focus on ‘Lady Eve’, and the claims of its supporters on BBC Radio 4’s ‘Great Lives’. Sarah Langford, author of ‘Rooted’, and Patrick Holden, former director of the Association, both speak very fondly about Lady Balfour while continuously dodging questions about why she wasn’t taken seriously in her lifetime. And we follow Lymington as he abandons his soil in favour of new ‘servants’ in British Kenya. Jenks concluded in 1945 that to counter industrialised farming he would join forces with the farmer Lady Eve Balfour, who herself had been mightily inspired by Gardiner’s experiments with organics. Together they co-founded the Soil Association. Jenks went on to become the lead theorist in the organic movement, writing a number of books on soil health and nutrition and becoming editor of Mother Earth, the Soil Association’s in-house magazine, a role he held until his death in 1963. The Soil Association today remains proud of Balfour and her organic farming trials at New Bells Farm in Suffolk, as well as her radicalism, sexuality and opposition to the Church tithe taxes then levied on farmers (a cause that was taken up by Mosley’s blackshirts who “protected” a number of East Anglian farms in the 1930s from the bailiffs authorised to extract payments to the Church). Jenks and Gardiner meanwhile have been posthumously cancelled by the Soil Association, their roles as the practical trailblazers, lead theorists and polemicists for organic farming expunged from the record. Away from farming, Britain’s Green fascists heartily promoted the physical and spiritual benefits of connecting with nature. Mosley found this focus all a bit wishy washy for his masculine brand of politics. Indeed, the primary reason why Rolf Gardiner began to distance himself from the BUF was due to his belief that Mosley failed to go far enough in emphasising rural social issues. Gardiner’s and Williamson’s belief in the power of nature to heal mankind stemmed in part from their shared interest in the philosophy of Dr Rudolf Steiner. In particular they advocated the importance of exposing the young to wildlife and rural life, both in their education and free time. The spiritual outdoorsiness of the Steiner school model is advocated by the UK Green Party today, its sometime schools spokesperson, Samantha Pancheri, stating Steiner schools are “broadly compatible” with their own education policies that shun the formality and Ofsted-assessed rigidity preferred by mainstream parties.

MP Dan Norris arrested on suspicion of child sex offences and rape  – MP Dan Norris has been arrested on suspicion of rape, child sex offences, child abduction and misconduct in a public office. The Labour Party says it “immediately suspended” the MP for North East Somerset and Hanham after being made aware of his arrest. Avon and Somerset Police confirmed that a man in his 60s was arrested on Friday and released on conditional bail. BBC News has contacted Norris for comment. Norris, 65, was elected as the MP for North East Somerset and Hanham in 2024, defeating the Conservative MP Jacob Rees-Mogg. He had previously been in Parliament from 1997 to 2010 representing the seat of Wansdyke. The MP was a junior minister under Gordon Brown and was an assistant whip under Tony Blair. Norris has also served as the Mayor of the West of England since 2021 but is due to step down ahead of May’s local elections. According to the West of England Combined Authority website, Norris previously worked as an NSPCC-trained child protection officer. In a statement, Avon and Somerset Police said: “In December 2024, we received a referral from another police force relating to alleged non-recent child sex offences having been committed against a girl. “Most of the offences are alleged to have occurred in the 2000s but we’re also investigating an alleged offence of rape from the 2020s. “An investigation, led by officers within Operation Bluestone, our dedicated rape and serious sexual assault investigation team, remains ongoing and at an early stage. “The victim is being supported and given access to any specialist help or support she needs. “A man, aged in his 60s, was arrested on Friday (April 4) on suspicion of sexual offences against a girl (under the Sexual Offences Act 1956), rape (under the Sexual Offences Act 2003), child abduction and misconduct in a public office. “He’s been released on conditional bail for enquiries to continue.” A Labour Party spokesperson said on Saturday: “Dan Norris MP was immediately suspended by the Labour Party upon being informed of his arrest. “We cannot comment further while the police investigation is ongoing.” The suspension means Mr Norris, the MP for North East Somerset and Hanham, is also understood to have had the party whip suspended, meaning he is not able to sit as a Labour MP in the Commons.

Did Lloyds Bank Kill My Business – [iPlayer] BBC Panorama 07Apr25 For 15 years, reporter Steve Brodie has been following the cases of dozens of entrepreneurs who say Lloyds Bank failed their businesses and ruined their lives. Some Lloyds customers have made criminal complaints to the police about their former bank, but none have resulted in a full investigation. Lloyds says it has always worked to support business customers who got into difficulties following the financial crash. Now Panorama reveals new documents from inside the bank as well as whistleblower evidence which raises serious questions about the way the bank treated some of its customers. Lloyds accused of failing small firms as it cut lending Steve Brodie, Celia Watson, Emily Buchanan and Mitchell Labiak Lloyds Bank business customers and whistleblowers have accused it of failing small firms as it tried to reduce lending after the financial crash of 2008. Business owners who borrowed from Lloyds around that time have told the BBC their firms collapsed after the bank introduced them to its Business Support Unit (BSU), intended for clients it considered were struggling. A whistleblower told Panorama there was a “pattern” of “pigeonholing” small businesses as “distressed” when they were “salvageable”. Lloyds said it “categorically denied” the allegations and its BSU “supported many thousands of customers”. During the banking crisis of 2008, the government bailed out banks to save them from collapse, including Lloyds which got £20bn of taxpayers’ cash. Then Prime Minister Gordon Brown said as a condition of the bailout banks must protect lending to small and medium sized businesses. But over 15 years, the BBC has heard allegations that Lloyds’ BSU failed small firms. James Ducker, who sold financial products to businesses for Lloyds in 2009, said “the approach to lending became do not lend. Beyond that, get as much money back that we’ve lent as possible.” He said customers in the BSU were “easy pickings”. A whistleblower who worked for a consultancy firm brought in by Lloyds to advise small businesses in the BSU told BBC Panorama that in their experience the companies described by the bank as distressed “probably weren’t distressed, they were salvageable. I believe there was a pattern. There’s no other way to put it.” Wishing to remain anonymous, the whistleblower accused the bank of “planning the administration of these entities in advance of reports that were produced. The business plan was completely ignored. They weren’t interested in saving the company.”

The longest 20th Century House of Commons speech was made by Conservative MP Sir Ivan Lawrence, who spoke for four hours 23 minutes against the Fluoridation Bill in 1985. Sir Ivan, a barrister, was an experienced enough public speaker to keep extemporising on the topic, although his efforts were not enough to prevent the motion becoming law. “I don’t think I even had any water with me,” he recalls. “It was the adrenaline that kept me going. “Unfortunately, everyone thought this was a great wheeze. “There were various people interrupting me – ‘Is my right honourable friend aware that he’s promised me a lift home tonight?’ and so on.” A friend later told Sir Ivan he kept Hansard’s transcript of the debate by his bed to help him get to sleep at night. FLUORIDATION IS A BAD MEDICAL PRACTICE 1) FLUORIDE IS THE ONLY CHEMICAL ADDED TO WATER FOR THE PURPOSE OF MEDICAL TREATMENT In pharmaceutical medicines which possess marketing authorisations, fluoride is classified as a drug when used to prevent or mitigate disease. As a matter of basic logic, adding fluoride to water for the sole purpose of preventing tooth decay (a non-waterborne disease) is a form of medical treatment. This converts potable drinking water into a prophylactic medicine. All other water treatment chemicals are added to improve the water’s quality or safety, which fluoride does not do. Three Courts of Law since 1958 have ruled that fluoridated water is a medicine. (The Supreme Court of Canada, 1958; Scotland, 1983; The Supreme Court of New Zealand, 2018). In England, a piece of Primary Law, the Medicines Act 1968 s.130, defines a medicine and although fluoridated water is not specifically mentioned, the definition of a medicine in the Act matches the physical state and intention of the compound created when an active substance (fluoride) is added to a carrier (drinking water). Shaw (2012) writes: “Water fluoridation is currently permitted [in England and Wales] by the Water Act 2003, but this appears to contradict legislation and regulations governing food and healthcare in the UK and the EU. It is concluded that the status quo rests on the legal fiction that fluoridated water does not constitute a medication.”

The killing of ex-KGB man Alexander Litvinenko in London to the death – in a helicopter crash he all but predicted – of Stephen Curtis, the lawyer to many of Britain’s richest Russians, chilled London’s Russians and many of those who know them. This is the story of how Russia’s wealth was harvested and brought to London – some of it spent by Roman Abramovich on his beloved Chelsea Football Club, some of it spent by Boris Berezovsky in his battles with Russia’s all-powerful Vladimir Putin. Londongrad is a must-read for anyone interested in how vast wealth is created, the luxury it can buy and the power and intrigue it produces. Bought this as I was interested in the rise of Russian immigration to UK – are there really over 400,000 Russians in London? However the best part for me was the description of how Yeltsin tried to convert Russia into a western style capitalist economy with predictably disastrous results for the majority of ordinary Russians. Some other good stuff I liked were the stories of Russians turning up at London estate agencies and car showrooms with suitcases stuffed full of money trying to buy property and cars. Amazingly the US government has indicated that they don’t want these people but the British government are happy to have them here because they are spending their money here, Can’t help but feel that most ordinary Russians would have been better off under the old communist regime.

The exiled Russian tycoon was slain by Western secret services linked to the plan to overthrow the Kremlin leader. Boris was killed simply because he possessed certain secret information and was going to make it public. This is not just my guess, I know it for sure.’ Sokolov, the head of a major Moscow private security agency, said his ex-boss was intent on returning to Russia, and had opened negotiations with Putin on allowing him back despite years of bitter opposition to the president. ‘Boris forwarded Vladimir Putin a letter with repentance,’ he said. ‘It was a part of the big venture he had been planning. Berezovsky was living and looking forward to his return to Russia. Of course, he was hoping for indulgence. ‘Boris was killed only because he possessed information which he was going to share with Putin. ‘I am absolutely sure that Boris had video and audio evidence about certain oligarchs who offered to organise a coup in the country, promising him to be seen as being at the head of the attack. ‘Berezovsky planned to come back to his motherland with this sensational material. ‘You understand it now: those people he had gathered compromising materials for, considered him to be a serious threat.’….

Litvinenko’s father doesn’t think Putin killed his son. After his son died in London from radioactive polonium poisoning in November 2006, Walter Litvinenko was among those who accused Russia of assassinating Aleksandr. But he changed his attitude after his son’s widow Marina revealed that he had been working for British intelligence. “If I knew back then that my son worked for the MI6, I would not speculate about his death. It would be none of my business. Although I am not 100 per cent sure he did work for them,” he said in an interview with RT. He added that if it was true and Aleksandr, once a security officer with the Russian special service FSB, had defected to British intelligence, the Russians may have had a right to kill him as a traitor. “He might as well have been killed by Russian secret services. They had a right to do it because traitors are to be killed,” he said. “Back then I was convinced he was not a traitor but I am not so sure now, so I won’t draw any conclusions.” He calls his son a victim of a grand spy game. But he doubts that Andrey Lugovoy, who British police have named their chief suspect, had a hand in his death or acted as a government agent. “The FSB wouldn’t send some dumbhead to spill polonium on himself, to leave traces all over my son. It appears that someone left traces of polonium on Lugovoy intentionally. Polonium traces were found at the stadium, on the road and even on a plane. It’s strange to think that Lugovoy would be such an idiot.” Walter Litvinenko authored a number of articles and gave several interviews in which he accused the Kremlin of many crimes, including killing his son. “I was guided only by anger over my son’s death at the time. I was sure the Russian special services did it,” he explained. He says he regrets his participation in the smear campaign against Russia in general and Prime Minister Putin in particular. “I have cured of this disease. It was a disease. I am a psychiatric doctor myself and I know it was, this blunt hate,” he explained. The grizzly death of Aleksandr Litvinenko became a major scandal which soured relations between Russia and Britain for several years. Russia refused to extradite Lugovoy for a trial in London and Britain refused to accept a trial on Russian soil. Some Western media accused Moscow of assassinating Litvinenko for his anti-Putin publications. British justice so far confirmed that the cause of Litvinenko’s death was polonium poisoning, but seems no nearer to uncovering how it happened or who, if anyone, is to blame.
