The Thief: Tyranny and Excess. The Wife: Rebellion and Awakening. Her Lover: Intellect and Passion [the screenplay]. In the realm of cinema, few films have managed to shock, provoke, and captivate audiences quite like Peter Greenaway’s 1989 masterpiece, ‘The Cook, the Thief, His Wife & Her Lover’. THE FILTON TRIAL – THE VERDICTS – NO CONVICTIONS – FIVE BAILED Verdicts delivered on the six young people who have spent seventeen months on remand and eight weeks in court Six members of Palestine Action took part in a direct action against the Filton R&D facility of Elbit Systems in August 2024. (This action took place a whole year before Yvette Cooper’s controversial proscription of the organisation – the decision that a Judicial Review is likely to hand down its ruling on, in the coming days.) The six young people have been in prison on remand for 17 months and their trial began on November 17th 2025 at Woolwich Crown Court in front of Mr Justice Johnson. The defendants are Charlotte Head, Samuel Corner, Leona Kamio, Fatema Zainab Rajwani, Zoe Rogers and Jordan Devlin. All six are charged jointly on three counts: Aggravated burglary (Section 10 of Theft Act 1968) Criminal damage (Section 1 of Criminal Damage Act 1971) Violent disorder (Section 2 of Public Order Act 1986) As well as the three counts listed above, Samuel Corner faces an additional charge under Section 18 of the Offences Against The Person Act 1861, of causing grievous bodily harm with intent.The jury have options in his case of finding him guilty of lesser offences – these could be Grievous Bodily Harm, Actual Bodily Harm With Intent, or Actual Bodily Harm. All defendants have pled not guilty. The jury began deliberating on Tuesday 13th January, but illness and other factors mean that several days have been lost along the way, and it’s taken around 8 full days to reach this point.

Morgan McSweeney: the man running Britain and his ties to Israel.  Starmer set up own Labour leadership team six months before Corbyn’s 2019 defeat A new biography has revealed how the Labour leader and his allies planned his challenge in advance of the election Keir Starmer had assembled a leadership team about six months before the December 2019 general election that led to Jeremy Corbyn’s resignation as Labour leader. The team, codenamed the “Arlington Group”, began planning in earnest how Starmer could capture the leadership from June of that year – including a detailed breakdown of how Labour’s membership could be convinced to support him. The revelation is made in a new biography of the Labour leader, Keir Starmer: The Biography, by Tom Baldwin, a former journalist who served as one of Ed Miliband’s advisers during his time leading the party. The group was formed as early as 2018 when Jenny Chapman, who was Darlington MP, asked him if he had ever thought about being the party’s leader. Starmer is said to have replied that it was something he “might want to do”. Meetings then began to take place on Monday mornings around the kitchen table at her home. Its codename was derived from the road in London where one of them lived. Those involved said that there was never a plan to topple Corbyn – the failed coup against him in 2016 had proved that it would be almost impossible to do so. Starmer is also said to have refused to acknowledge at that stage that he would be running. “Keir used to have this lawyerly phrase of: ‘I want to be in a position to consider standing – should a vacancy arise,’” said one of those involved. However, the preparations being made for a leadership attempt kicked into another gear in June 2019 with the arrival of an official that Starmer referred to as “the new guy”. It turned out to be Morgan McSweeney, now Labour’s influential campaigns director. Some were initially sceptical of McSweeney, who had also overseen Liz Kendall’s ill-fated leadership challenge in 2015, when she won less than 5% of the vote. However, he presented detailed research into the Labour membership – who would largely decide the identity of the party’s next leader – and how a winning coalition could be formed. “He got out his slide deck,” recalled Chris Ward, a former Starmer aide. “He ran through exactly where the membership was on every question, which bits of it we could get, which bits we couldn’t. It was brilliant. Afterwards, when we’re walking back, Keir had this little grin on his face, and was like: ‘D’you see what I mean now?’”

The prime minister’s dramatic U-turn followed intense pressure, led by former deputy prime minister Angela Rayner, just hours after he admitted that he knew about Lord Mandelson’s continued friendship with the paedophile Jeffrey Epstein – but appointed him as US ambassador anyway. Despite the revelation, which led many to question Sir Keir’s integrity and judgement, he insisted he was repeatedly lied to by the disgraced peer, who he said had “betrayed our country” over the alleged leak of sensitive government documents to the disgraced financier. On Wednesday night, ministers and other senior figures in Labour gave the prime minister an ultimatum that he must sack his controversial chief of staff, Morgan McSweeney, who pushed for Lord Mandelson’s appointment as ambassador and brought him back into the heart of the government. One minister told The Independent: “Morgan has to go – and should have gone months ago.” The prime minister had attempted to restrict the publication of the vetting documents, arguing that some details would need to be redacted on national security grounds. That prompted accusations from Labour MPs that he was engaging in a “cover-up”. After three hours into a Commons humble address debate on Wednesday, Sir Keir relented after Ms Rayner intervened to make it clear she would be supporting the Tory proposal for the independent Intelligence and Security Committee (ISC) to decide which documents could be published. It is unclear when the documents will be released to the committee and made public, but there is speculation that they could be available as early as Thursday. Seizing on the U-turn, a Conservative spokesperson said: “Kemi [Badenoch] forced Starmer to admit he’d known Mandelson was still hanging out with Epstein after the child sex conviction, and No 10 went ahead and appointed Mandelson anyway.

Misconduct in public office? What do emails between Mandelson and Epstein say? Newly released emails between Lord Mandelson and Jeffrey Epstein date back to when he was serving as a senior minister in Gordon Brown’s government Email exchanges published in the US indicate Lord Mandelson was in close contact with the disgraced late financier during a period in which he was at the heart of government amid the financial crisis. The emails suggest Lord Mandelson gave Epstein advance notice of an impending EU bailout, sent him internal government information about the state of the UK economy and lobbied the Treasury on banking policy at Epstein’s suggestion. We are still reviewing the millions of documents related to Epstein published by the US Justice Department but here is what has emerged about Lord Mandelson so far. Forwarding internal government information to Epstein One exchange in the newly released emails suggests Lord Mandelson forwarded internal government information to Epstein in June 2009, at which point he was acting as Gordon Brown’s business secretary and de facto deputy prime minister. Nick Butler, a policy adviser to the then-prime minister, wrote a memo about the UK’s struggling economy in which he recommended selling off government-held assets in order to raise public funds. He copied several people into the email, including Lord Mandelson. The published documents appear to suggest Lord Mandelson forwarded that internal government communication to Epstein, with the message: “Interesting note that’s gone to the PM.” In response to Epstein asking, “what salable [sic] assets?”, a reply from a redacted email address said: “Land, property I guess.” Lord Mandelson has been approached for comment.Advance notice of EU bailout for Greece Another exchange indicates Lord Mandelson gave Epstein advance notice of a €500bn bailout by the EU to save the ailing Euro. In the early hours of 10 May 2010, EU finance ministers agreed the deal amid concerns that a debt crisis in the Greek economy could spread to the wider Eurozone. The evening before the announcement, Epstein emailed Lord Mandelson to say: “sources tell me 500 b euro bailout , almost complete.” The released documents also appear to show Lord Mandelson told Epstein: “Sd be announced tonight.” Epstein then asked if Mandelson was home and received a reply, saying: “Just leaving No10..will call.” The UK did not contribute to the bailout, but then-chancellor Alistair Darling was present in Brussels for the negotiations. Lord Mandelson has been approached for comment.

Journalist hailed for ‘chilling’ Question Time speech on ‘disgusting’ Labour A JOURNALIST delivered a chilling speech on Labour’s “extraordinary” appointment of Peter Mandelson as US ambassador on Question Time. The studio audience were stunned into silence as the New Statesman’s Oli Dugmore lay bare his shock at revelations over the past week, including that Keir Starmer knew that Mandelson had continued his friendship with Jeffrey Epstein after the late paedophile’s conviction when he appointed him as US ambassador. The admission that came during Prime Minister’s Questions this week has led to some MPs suggesting Starmer’s position may now be untenable, as well as that of his chief of staff Morgan McSweeney. Dugmore was on the panel alongside Reform UK head of policy Zia Yusuf, Labour MP Emma Reynolds, Conservative MP Julia Lopez and LibDem MP Munira Wilson. Dugmore began by saying: “I’m generally a pretty forgiving person and I think our politics is poorer for its lack of empathy. “I think most people should not be defined by the worst thing they’ve ever done in their lives and most people deserve a second chance. “I do, however, have some moral boundaries, and one of them is I think it is wrong to have sex with children and I wouldn’t want to be friends with anyone that did that and I certainly wouldn’t want to work with them. If I did, I think you’d all be asking me questions and they’d be valid ones. “That is apparently now a fringe position for some people at the top of the Labour Party which is an extraordinary thing to be able to say. “I don’t know about you, I don’t know any paedophiles, I don’t know anyone that’s run a sex trafficking ring, these are extraordinary things we are talking about here.” Dugmore went on to talk about reports showing how people at the top of the Labour Party knew about Mandelson staying in Epstein’s house while he was in prison. To nervous laughter from the audience, he said: “They [Labour bosses] didn’t think that was disqualifying, they thought actually ‘this is our guy’. “This is our guy that we’re going to elevate to the most prestigious diplomatic posting that we have, we’re going to make him our man in Washington. Not only that, we’re going to bring him back to London every so often to advise on some Cabinet reshuffles, and actually when we’re choosing our candidates for the 2024 General Election, we’re going to let him put in on that too because we think he’s a great judge of character. “Like, come on.” The audience applauded his speech which has been widely shared on social media. Aaron Bastani, co-founder of Novara Media, said Dugmore had shown how “utterly monstrous” the situation was. “The facts, put plainly, sound utterly monstrous – and a genuine low for British politics,” he posted on Twitter/X. “It’s over.” Dugmore himself commented below the clip: “It’s disgusting.

Court case for van dwellers in Bristol this week. BBC PM – Hannah Miller report on van dwellers in Bristol. Trial date set as Downs ‘van dwellers’ saga nears an end About 45 vehicles remained parked on roads surrounding the park in north Bristol The number of vehicles parked around the Downs has dropped recently Bristol City Council is set for a court showdown as it moves to permanently ban people living in vehicles from the roads around the Downs. Article continues below In November, the council said it would seek to move people on from the Downs after designating the group of vehicles there as a ‘high impact’ site, due to what the council said was evidence of people using the area as a toilet. Nonetheless, about 45 vehicles remain parked on roads along the outside of the green space in leafy north Bristol. At its peak, the Downs ‘encampment’ consisted of about 150 vehicles. Now, a trial date has been set where the council will apply to have vehicles permanently barred from the area. At the trial, on April 16, the council will apply for a possession order for the roads, allowing them to evict people living in vehicles there, and then an injunction to prevent them from returning have the vehicles still occupying roads along the perimeter of the Downs. The court hearing will allow people on both sides of the debate to have their say; the council has until February 26 to publish a map detailing the proposed new exclusion zone, along with details of how people can take part in the court case. At a brief hearing outlining next steps in the long-running saga at Bristol Civil Justice Court on Thursday (February 5), the court heard from both critics and supporters of people living in vehicles. Alan Jenkinson, appearing on behalf of Protect The Downs – a group of locals who have waged a long campaign against the so-called van dwellers – said he wanted the scope of the proposed injunction to be extended to include other roads in the area. “We support the council’s application,” he said. “I would implore the court to extend the broad nature of the injunction to other roads. “We know from our experience and we’ve got substantial evidence to prove the danger to the public of allowing inhabitations on the roads. “(The vehicles pose a) real risk and threat to the community in the area.” Although the council has repeatedly promised to engage with the people still living in vehicles in the area to better understand their circumstances, there is limited evidence to suggest they have done so. Gerard Winstanley, from the Bristol Housing Action group, said more needed to be done to make sure people living in vehicles in the area had their say on their future. “We’ve had virtually no representation whatsoever from the people who are targeted by this exclusion order,” he said. “There are roughly 45 vehicles in the area. As part of our submission, what I’d just ask is that there’s more deliberate publicity given to the times and dates that these orders are being sought so that people can at least find out what the council intends to do and when.” Mr Winstanley said BHA would seek to be included as a party acting against the council in April’s trial. The council will also apply to extend a separate injunction which currently bars people from parking on the grass itself. That injunction is due to expire on July 25. Robin Denford, appearing on behalf of the council, said:“The injunction that has been granted already has worked extremely well,” citing the example of one trespasser who had been dealt with without any issues in January.

Rev Paul Williamson, former Vicar, on his protest at event ordaining Sarah Mullally as Archbishop – Sarah Mullally safeguarding failures. A retired vicar who objected to the confirmation of Sarah Mullally as Archbishop of Canterbury during the ceremony at St Paul’s Cathedral has told Premier he felt he had no other option after being repeatedly ignored by the Church of England when he has raised safeguarding issues. Rev Paul Williamson, who was priest in charge of St George’s Hanworth until he reached the church retirement age of 70, was escorted from the cathedral after he shouted “I object” during the service. The 77-year-old who carries a walking stick, said he was ready to walk out quietly but was “treated brusquely”. During the ceremony, the Vicar General said there had been “no valid objection” to Dame Sarah being confirmed as archbishop, something Rev Williamson disputes. “It was nonsense to say that there were no objections,” he said. “I objected and I’m not into making a scene in the house of God”. Lambeth Palace told Premier that public notices are always displayed before the Confirmation of Election for any diocesan bishop at the place where the Confirmation is due to take place. On this occasion, ahead of the Archbishop of Canterbury’s Confirmation of Election, notices were displayed outside Lambeth Palace and St Paul’s Cathedral. However, Rev Williamson said it would have been impossible for people outside London to read the notices and be aware they had to raise an objection before the King signed the Confirmation papers in December. Rev Williamson said he had last week met the Vicar General of the Province of Canterbury, Timothy Briden, to document his own formal objection ahead of Sarah Mullally’s confirmation. Premier has seen the documents which outline what Rev Williamson described as “three impediments” to the elevation of Bishop Sarah to the see of Canterbury. He cited the death of Fr Alan Griffin, a priest who took his own life after being falsely accused of abuse in the Diocese of London. A coroner strongly criticised the way the case was handled. Bishop Sarah apologised “unreservedly” to Fr Alan’s family and friends. Rev Williamson also alleged that Bishop Sarah had been too slow to act on information contained in files in the case of Martin Sargeant, a Diocese of London employee. Sargeant was sentenced to five years in prison in 2022 for defrauding the London Diocesan Fund of over £5m over a decade. He had also compiled rumours about dozens of priests in the diocese, which led to the compilation of files into 42 vicars which became known as the ‘Brain Dump’. Rev Paul also disclosed to the Vicar General that he had himself been driven to contemplate suicide over what he claimed was a lack of care by Sarah Mullally when he was evicted from his clergy housing in 2024. He claims that despite Lambeth Palace contacting Bishop Sarah to inform her of his situation, her only course of action was an email three weeks later containing information about a support group. The Diocese of London had previously said his tenure in office had come to an end in 2018 when he turned 70 and he had been given additional time to stay in the rectory rent-free until 2019. He continued to remain in the rectory until his eviction. In a statement at the time, a spokesperson for the Diocese of London said: “Mr Williamson’s eviction follows the issuing of a possession order by Staines County Court. The diocese has offered pastoral and practical support to Mr Williamson over the last six years, and has done so again ahead of today, including the offer of help in finding suitable accommodation, which we are reassured to know he has secured.”

Jeffrey Epstein ‘Russian spy’ claims emerge after files reveal Putin link ‘More and more leads’ point towards Jeffrey Epstein’s sex trafficking ring being ‘co-organised by Russian intelligence services’, Poland’s Prime Minister Donald Tusk has said Jeffrey Epstein was likely a ‘Russian spy’ and worked with the Kremlin to ‘co-organise’ his sex trafficking ring, it has been claimed. Poland’s Prime Minister Donald Tusk has announced a new investigation into the links between Epstein and Moscow after Vladimir Putin’s name appeared over a thousand times in the latest release of documents by the US Department of Justice over the weekend. It includes one revealing email exchange from 2010 when Epstein sent an email offering to help someone acquire a Russian visa, writing: “I have a friend of Putin’s, should I ask him?” Epstein also discussed setting up meetings with the Russian president, and even claimed to have turned down an invitation from Putin to meet on the sidelines of a St Petersburg conference in 2013, as there wasn’t “real time and privacy”. Jeffrey Epstein mentioned his connections with a ‘friend of Putin’s’ in one email exchange(Image: DoJ) In one audio file, Epstein is heard coaching an unnamed person on how to approach Putin, advising them: “I would send a note to Putin, saying ‘I’m going to leave government on March 14th. I’m going to be in Scandinavia, or I plan to be in western, northern Europe. We should have dinner’. That’s it, no more. It has to be very short.” It is not the first time observers have drawn a connection between the paedophile financier and the Kremlin. They have pointed to the large numbers of Russian women mentioned in his emails and his apparent links to Putin’s inner circle. Announcing the new investigation by Polish authorities, Tusk said experts now believed it was “very probable” that Epstein’s activities received co-operation as part of a Kremlin “honey trap” operation, adding: “More and more leads, more and more ?information, and more and more commentary in the global press all relate to the suspicion that this unprecedented paedophilia scandal was co-organised by Russian intelligence services. “I ?don’t need to ?tell you how serious the increasingly likely possibility that Russian intelligence services co-organised this operation is for the security of the Polish state. Donald Tusk said it was ‘very probable’ that Epstein’s activities were assisted with as part of a Kremlin ‘honey trap’ operation “This can only mean that they also possess compromising materials against many leaders still ?active today.”

How Jeffrey Epstein’s intelligence ties go back decades The disgraced, convicted sex offender inhabited a murky world of business, spies and arms dealers Jeffrey Epstein discussed the UAE invading Qatar, obtained intelligence on a €500bn bailout to save the Euro before it happened, and appeared to have information that Russia tipped off Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan about a failed coup d’etat in 2016. These snippets into the conversations of the disgraced paedophile, who mysteriously died in his New York City jail cell in 2019, raise new questions about his ties to intelligence agencies. Millions of newly released files do not show Epstein clocking into a Mossad, MI6, or CIA office building. But he did not need to. Current and former ambassadors, world leaders, and moguls came to him, and his Caribbean island, where he trafficked young women for sexual abuse. The reality is that Epstein floated in a world that was unreachable and more elite than that of intelligence case officers and desk analysts. If current observers trying to make sense of Epstein’s links to intelligence agencies need an example, the closest might be The Night Manager, a mini-series based on the novel by John Le Carre. The main antagonist of the show is Richard Onslow Roper – a cut-glass, arms-dealing businessman who is an asset for members of British Intelligence and global corporations, even as he is hounded by other factions of MI6. Of course, Epstein’s emails to former Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Barack reveal such close and continued contact with Israel that even Epstein had to implore Barack to “make clear that i dont work for mossad”. But Epstein’s murky ties to intelligence circles go back much farther. The earliest known connection Epstein had to the world of intelligence goes back to Donald Barr. This is also the weakest link. Barr was a former member of the OSS, or Office of Strategic Services, the WWII forerunner to the CIA. Barr hired Epstein, who did not have a college degree, to work as a math and physics teacher at one of New York City’s most elite schools, The Dalton School. Ironically, Barr wrote pornographic science fiction novels in his spare time. His son Bill was working for the CIA when Epstein was hired by his father. Bill worked in the Reagan and George HW Bush administrations before serving as attorney general during the first Trump administration. Epstein left the Dalton School in 1976 and took a job with the now-defunct Bear Stearns investment bank, trading options and advising wealthy clients. Epstein’s real links to figures in the world of weapons, the ultra-rich and intrigue started in full force in 1981 when he made a trip to the UK with a former girlfriend. There, Epstein met Douglas Leese, an aristocratic British arms dealer who would play a key role in introducing Epstein to Mossad agent Robert Maxwell and high-rolling Saudi Arabian arms dealer Adnan Khashoggi.

To her American friend, the French-German head of the Swiss banking group Edmond de Rothschild forwarded a message from Jacob Rothschild of the British branch of the financial dynasty. Epstein asked her to call him, stepping in as a mediator in the conflict that then pitted Ariane de Rothschild, in Geneva, against a rival and another family member, David de Rothschild, based in Paris. David, at the head of his investment bank in France, and Ariane, who became the all-powerful leader of the Edmond de Rothschild Group in Switzerland in January 2015 thanks to the support of her husband, Benjamin (who died in 2021), were at war with each other. David provoked Ariane’s anger when he renamed his firm, Paris Orléans, as Rothschild & Co and began presenting himself as the “Rothschild Group.” She saw this as a usurpation of the prestigious family name, which could damage her standing with investors and wealthy clients. This battle over the name only ended in 2018, when the two parties reached an agreement on how it could be used. In September 2015, tensions between the “cousins” reached their peak, and Ariane de Rothschild provided Epstein with near real-time written updates on this otherwise confidential battle. In return, the businessman offered his advice. “I would give david an alternative (…), ex , D , rothschhild and sons.? .. d rothschild and co. . DE rothschild.?” he wrote on September 18, 2015. Taken from the so-called Epstein files – millions of legal documents released by the US Department of Justice – these exchanges shed light on the extremely close relationship that existed between Ariane de Rothschild, who holds the title of baroness and whose personal fortune is estimated at €5.3 billion by the French business magazine Challenges, and Epstein. Between one of the most powerful figures in European private banking and the New York financier, the relationship, both friendly and professional, lasted from 2013 to 2019, ending only with Epstein’s arrest in the United States on numerous sex crime charges. Epstein died in prison in August 2019. Ariane ‘talks about you every day’ First revealed by The Wall Street Journal in 2023, their connection was initially downplayed by de Rothschild. The latest set of the Epstein files, published on January 30 by US authorities, has shattered that version of events. Hundreds of emails show that Epstein was a close friend of the 60-year-old banker and acted as her unofficial business adviser. Since their release, these documents have fueled the most absurd conspiracy theories and countless antisemitic posts on social media. None of the material reviewed by Le Monde implicates de Rothschild in Epstein’s sexual crimes.

From Abraham in the Middle Bronze Age to Jesus in First Century Judea, spiritual leaders were always specifically male in traditional Biblical teaching. Since the role frequently demands church leaders face down potentially deadly challenges from anti God forces within secular society, the gentle, childbearing sex are inappropriate. Man is the first creation in God’s image. Though no less a child of God the woman’s role is primarily to procreate, something of an afterthought. The move to place women as leaders of the church in the CoE is anti-Biblical a secular (ie an apostasy) legal opinion from ‘Caesar’. Render to Caesar what is Caesar’s, and to God what is God’s’. Just as in standing armies there is good reason why Jesus placed men, not women, in the lead and at the front line. The context is that the New Testament also makes it perfectly clear that at the End of the World an apostate, devil-inspired, church leadership will turn away from Christ and reject his teachings. The structure of 1 Timothy 2:11–14 makes the reason why women cannot be pastors perfectly clear. Verse 13 begins with “for,” giving the “cause” of Paul’s statement in verses 11–12. He chose Mary and Bethlehem. He chose to have a son, as Paul says, born of a woman. And the Lord Jesus Christ made a very deliberate choice of those who were to carry on his work. We cannot turn around and say 50,000 years later when things have changed dramatically again that it is wrong. Well, we heard uh Libby Lane there speaking out and saying that she hopes she inspires other women. I mean surely this move, her promotion makes the church more accessible and that can only be good news in terms of increasing congregations up and down the country. I have to differ largely on this one. Um, my experience locally is that the lady who ran a parish emptied it. The arch deacon himself told me she left eight people. She went to another church and emptied it in 15 months. I’m assured Libby is wonderful. I do not wish her ill in any shape or form. But there’s a little clue in what she said. She hopes to inspire women. A bishop is supposed to inspire everybody, men, women, and children. It was very telling that the servers were all female, that there was much parading around outside the minster and comment. So, you don’t think in a very male-dominated church there should be someone who does appeal to the female congregation? I don’t think the church is male-dominated. It is a mantra that people have used until they’ve convinced themselves. I was a convent chaplain to some wonderful Church of England nuns. I have with me today here in the studio. The lady who was my church warden for many years who was a wonderful support who visited. But you think her place should only be supporting?

Church of England DEISM and APOSTASY 3: London priest evicted on grounds of age after six-year legal battle – by Simon Walsh 10 July 2024 ‘He has remained in the rectory … until now’ says diocese The Revd Paul Williamson unscrews the crucifix from the front door of the house, on Tuesday morning A PRIEST in the diocese of London has been evicted from the vicarage that he occupied for six years after he was deemed to be retired. The Revd Paul Williamson was the Priest-in-Charge of St George’s, Hanworth, from 1992 until he reached retirement age in 2018. He consistently disputed the established policy, and mounted several legal challenges in an attempt to stay in post. None was successful, and he remained in the diocesan property in Middlesex until this week, when a court eviction notice, dated 17 July, stated that he would be removed if not out by 9 June. On leaving the property, Fr Williamson addressed the bailiffs along with a group of friends, former colleagues, and parishioners. He unscrewed a crucifix from the front door, and said that he would be sending a spare key to the King as Supreme Governor of the Church of England. “You can be an MP, a member of the House of Lords, made a king, be a musician, an actor, or a TV presenter over the age of 70, but not a priest in office in a parish in the Church of England. Our late dear Queen was in office and active until age 96. The apostles did not retire from their office.” Speaking to the Church Times afterwards, Fr Williamson said that he had “felt suicidal through the threat of eviction, and have maintained all along that this matter is about age discrimination. My common tenure does not have retirement at the age of 70, and I have been fighting that. “I’m staying at the youth-club headquarters near the rectory, supported by friends and surrounded by boxes and bags. I have left the property relatively clear, but now want to take the case to the Supreme Court. Lady Hale said there is no exemption to discrimination that is not overturned by human rights.” Two years ago, his appeal to the Employment Appeal Tribunal, based on alleged age discrimination, was dismissed by its President, Mrs Justice Eady, and he was described as a “vexatious litigant” going back to a Civil Proceedings Order made against him in 1997 (News, 23 August 2022). He has also continually said that he no longer has any money for further legal fees. A spokesperson for the diocese of London said: “The Revd Paul Williamson’s tenure in office came to an end in 2018 when he turned 70. His licence was extended for a six-month period, to 28 April 2019, and he was given additional time to stay in the rectory until July 2019. He has remained in the rectory rent-free until now, requiring the diocese to provide alternative accommodation for clergy ministering in the parish. “Mr Williamson’s eviction follows the issuing of a possession order by Staines County Court. The diocese has offered pastoral and practical support to Mr Williamson over the last six years, and has done so again ahead of today, including the offer of help in finding suitable accommodation, which we are reassured to know he has secured.”

But at the present rate of the oil, the present price of the oil, it is not feasible investment. But I don’t know why he’s saying that. But because of the US military presence presence in state of Hormuz and if the state of Hormuz is blocked so the oil prices will skyrocket to a place where investment of hundred of billions of dollar in Venezuela would be feasible but it has to stay there for quite some time. So we’re looking at what a global meltdown maybe then it is killing the two birds with one stone for President Trump. Firstly, it is the it solves the issue of the hundreds of billions of dollars of investment in Venezuelan oil infrastructure. Secondly, Chinese are getting their oil supply 40 to 50% of it. They’re getting it from Venezuela got cancelled. Americans are in charge over there and the rest is coming mostly is coming for the economy is coming from Middle East. So if straight of Hormuz is blocked, it means the Chinese oil supply is blocked. So it the only outlet would be Russia of course and they’re getting dirt cheap oil from there but obviously that can be attacked that route can be attacked that’s that’s a singular target which needs to be attacked by the Ukrainians of course by giving them precision emination to attack those supply lines. So obviously it works uh uh it works for President Trump and it does make a lot of sense that he achieves an element of surprise and he goes for Iran uh no matter the end goal over here but the definitely the oil prices will rise and it’s going to work for the US. Yeah. So the Spanish Armada didn’t do too well. Um it many people talk about the old-fashioned um battleships, aircraft carriers as an old type of military force. Obviously soldiers on the ground. There’s no substitute for them apart from maybe uh Elon Musk’s androids. Do you think the um American Armada might be sunk too? Well, once you’re terming it an Armada, that that that is a very telling thing. I don’t I don’t think President Trump is very up to date on his history. That was a mistake to call it an armada. Or maybe he’s trying to create the media circus. He loves that. He’s been in media throughout his life. So he knows how to manipulate that. Maybe that’s that’s the point. But talking purely from a military point of view with myself as a former military officer, uh what I would say is that looking at the uh sheer uh the if you look at straight of Hermes, it’s a very narrow passageway and the most important passageway or the most important energy corridor for the world. If it is blocked no matter with by Iranian action or the US action it is going to have an impact first. Secondly coming to your question well the Iranians have said that we’ve got supersonic missiles and they have proved it once they attacked Israel and Tel Aviv recently and they have been able to hit Tel Aviv irrespective of the Iron Dome the much famed uh much boosted about Iron Dome air defense system. uh Americans are I’m sure are not taking it lightly. They’ve got a concentration of uh uh forces and recently we have seen the kind of military activity we have seen in the Middle East and we have seen American air assets in the record numbers uh moving to the their bases in Qatar in in Bahrain and in the straight of Hormes and it reminds of us of the military buildup. In fact, it is much bigger buildup than the buildup we had seen in Venezuela. And for the first time, now this is very interesting. From where is this carrier strike group coming from the USS Abraham Lincoln? It is coming from the South China Sea. Now that is first development. Second, Pentagon out of the blue maybe for deception purposes which is a military uh stra which is a military trade craft I would say. uh they said that China is not our priority target no more our priority target that’s the what’s the Pentagon said right so maybe there’s an understanding if not an understanding they want to give an impression to the Chinese because the Chinese don’t want to open a front they want to concentrate on their economic development and their model of uh I won’t say imperialism but influence in this great power rivalry is much different from the US uh model of pure aggression and use of military force

Voicing dissent in China is risky but it’s rising dramatically Data shows protests in China – the vast majority linked to economic grievances – have risen dramatically over the last year. Figures from China Dissent Monitor show a considerable rise in incidents of dissent, despite the fact a lack of political freedom in China makes such actions risky. China Dissent Monitor belongs to Freedom House, a non-profit organisation which has been sanctioned by China. Sky’s Asia Correspondent Helen-Ann Smith travelled to a protest in Shenzhen, in Guangdong province. Frightening ordeal as Sky News team forced into cars and camera seized – with dissent in China rising dramatically Protests are difficult to document and often quickly shut down, but data suggests incidents are rising, and the majority are due to economic grievances. As they gathered, we watched them from afar. Hundreds of factory workers, clad in matching blue overall uniforms, out together on strike. It’s immediately obvious that a scene like this is sensitive in China. Dozens of police and other security workers encircled the protesters. There is a nervous atmosphere, and anyone close was told not to film…. They claim that large portions of the factory’s capacity have been shifted abroad, leaving them with a reduction in their hours, and take-home pay that no longer covers their basic costs in an expensive city like Shenzhen. Capturing scenes like this is rare in China. Protest is often swiftly shut down, local media will rarely report it and evidence will be scrubbed from social media by an army of censors. Expressing dissent is sensitive and risky, doing so is usually a sign of how desperate people see their situation to be. Indeed, that was the sense from the workers in Shenzhen and it was clear they did want to be heard. When we got close to their group and they realised we were foreign media, they started cheering, chanting and pumping their fists. But the reaction from authorities came swiftly. Hands immediately blocked our lenses, men pulled members of our team to the side, our camera was seized and we were forced into cars and driven away. We were physically unharmed but, in the moment, the treatment was frightening. A sign, it seems, of just how much this country does not want its dissent to be seen. Just because protest is hard to document in China, it does not mean it’s uncommon. In fact, according to data collected and analysed by research group China Dissent Monitor (CDM), quite the opposite is true. The group, which is an arm of US-based NGO Freedom House, documented over 5,000 cases in 2025 and says that incidents have dramatically increased. Indeed, exclusive analysis for Sky News shows that the numbers for the first 11 months of last year were up by 48% on the same period in 2024.

Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney gives ‘Middle Powers’ speech at WEF in Davos. Stuck in the middle Call it The Carney Paradox: In an era of predatory great powers, the benefits of global economic integration must be balanced with protecting national autonomy Canada doesn’t have to trade with other countries. We trade because we benefit from the exchange. We gain from exports and imports. But in a world where “great powers” are “using economic integration as weapons,” as Prime Minister Mark Carney put it this week at the World Economic Forum, there’s a danger for middle powers such as Canada that “integration becomes the source of your subordination.” Carney, Trump and the week at Davos that marked the decline of the West Economists are almost always in favour of greater openness to trade, because of the obvious upsides. It tends to increase economic efficiency and raise living standards in a smaller economy like Canada’s. But Mr. Carney pointed out that in the current environment, greater global economic integration can bring downsides, and even existential dangers, for smaller countries. The great powers – he was careful not to name the United States, and even more careful not to name China – are threatening to weaponize the benefits of economic integration for smaller states to undermine their sovereignty. Call it the Carney Paradox. More integration may bring economic benefits, but it could threaten national security. However, preserving national autonomy by foregoing integration will come with economic costs. The paradox was on display this week as U.S. President Donald Trump threatened to slap escalating tariffs on several European countries unless they agreed to a U.S. takeover of Greenland. He backed down, but what he initially demanded, in return for trade access and the preservation of the NATO alliance, was an outright surrender of sovereignty. What to do? Prime Minister Carney was careful not to name the U.S. in his Davos speech, in which he warned of ‘great powers’ using economic integration as weapons.FABRICE COFFRINI/AFP/Getty Images Mr. Carney’s speech, calling for an acknowledgment of these new realities, was rhetorically soaring, widely quoted and almost universally praised, at least outside the White House. He had many memorable turns of phrase, with words that were persuasive because they ring true. But: The speech was also scarce on details of exactly what Ottawa will do, and how it will do it. One possible response is to build what Mr. Carney called “a world of fortresses.” To address the threat to our security from too much integration with one or more threatening hegemons, we could pre-emptively de-integrate. We could throw up trade walls of our own. That’s what Canada did in the decades after Confederation. Fearful that too much economic integration with the U.S. would lead to political absorption, the new country’s first prime minister, Sir John A. Macdonald, implemented the National Policy in 1879. Its centrepiece was high tariffs to protect Canadian industry against competition from imports. Could Canada pursue something similar today? Yes. Should we? Let’s do a thought experiment. To make it clear, let’s make it extreme. Imagine what it would be like if Canada did not trade with the rest of the world. Instead of the more than $170-billion dollars in merchandise and service imports and exports recorded last October, let’s say that figure was zero. No imports, no exports. Imagine if everything we have and everything we consume – every piece of clothing, every morsel of food, every vehicle on the road, and everything in our workplaces and our homes, from TV screens and smartphones down to the paint and the nails – had to be stamped “Made in Canada.”

The Fed unveils plan to expand its balance sheet but still insists it’s Not QE. “We’re going to go in strong,” declared Fed Chairman Jerome Powell. The Federal Reserve said Friday that it would begin buying government-backed securities to expand its balance sheet, a move meant to keep an obscure but critical corner of financial markets functioning smoothly. The Federal Reserve’s balance sheet is exploding, growing by about $3 trillion since mid-March and now totaling more than $7 trillion. It could conceivably exceed $10 trillion by yearend, as the central bank buys corporate bonds, municipal securities and makes loans to medium-sized businesses while purchasing $80 billion of Treasuries and $40 billion of agency mortgage-backed securities (MBS) each month. This would be more than double the peak that the Fed’s balance sheet reached after the 2008-09 financial crisis. By stimulus, all they mean is a couple trillion for the fat cats whose portfolios are already up 35% since the pandemic. Maybe a couple billion to be spread out to the peasants. We thought 2009 was the biggest rip off in history. This farce is ten times bigger, and the poor get poorer. For Bankers on Wall Street, Politicians, and government employees, it was not bad. For your hard-working Americans in the private sector, it was disastrous. For example, Yelp reports that at least 55% of the restaurant listed on Yelp will not re-open….ever. That’s nationwide. In some areas like New York City, it’s much higher. So while the Fat Wall Street CEOs and execs got Fat Fed’s handouts, many others have gone bankrupt. I won’t even get into the human suffering that occurred because people could not get to their doctor or dentist, etc. So what’s the bottom line of the Fed’s rapid balance sheet expansion? A massive redistribution of wealth to the 1% from the 80%. Welfare for the Wealthy. Preserving Privately held Profits absent any assumed risk while Socializing all losses and denying a safety net to those most severely impacted because you can’t keep the poor and working-class people poor.If you actually gave them money … and basic moral and economic and tenets of conservatism and deregulated. The balance sheet is going way, way past 10 Trillion. And we can pray for inflation, but our prayers won’t be answered. But this shouldn’t surprise us. Argentina In Revolt: Buenos Aires 2001-2002 and the IMF Riots – English subtitles Indymedia documentary ……..To reduce its deficit per IMF decree, Argentina had cut $3 billion from government spending-a cut that was necessary, the authors note here, to “accomodate the increase in interest obligations.” These obligations, the report did not need to add, were largely to foreign creditors, including the IMF and World Bank themselves. Since 1994, in fact, Argentina’s budget deficits had been entirely attributable to interest payments on foreign loans. Excluding such payments, spending had remained constant at 19 percent of GDP. Despite the visible harm caused by cuts, the new plan ordered more. This, the report promised, would “greatly improve the outlook for the remainder of 2001 and 2002, with growth expected to recover in the later half of 2001.” The Bank was slightly off the mark. By December 2001, Buenos Aires’ middle class, unaccustomed to hunting the streets for garbage to eat, joined the poor in mass demonstrations. How had Argentina arrived at such an impasse? In the 1990s the nation was the poster child for globalization, having followed without question the IMF and World Bank program. The “reform” plan for Argentina, as for every nation, has four steps. The first of these, capital market liberalization, was achieved by 1991’s “Convertibility Plan,” which pegged the Argentine peso in a one-to-one relationship with the U.S. dollar. This peg was designed both to keep inflation low and to make deficit spending difficult, in hopes of attracting and comforting foreign investors. Liberalized markets free capital to flow in and out across borders. But once Argentina’s economy began to wobble, money simply flowed out… The second step in the IMF/World Bank regimen is privatization. Both at the urging of lenders and out of financial necessity, Argentina throughout the nineties sold off what Argentines now ruefully call “las joyas de mi abuela,” grandmother’s jewels: the state’s oil, gas, water, and electric companies and the state banks. It was quite a fire sale. Vivendi of France won rural water systems; Enron of Texas the pipes of Buenos Aires; Fleet of Boston took the provincial banks……….

But Ellison is not alone. Indeed, the world’s seven richest individuals are all now powerful media barons, controlling what the world sees, reads, and hears, marking a new chapter in oligarchical control over society and striking another blow at a free, independent press and diversity of opinion. Media Monopoly: Paramount Skydance– an Ellison-owned company– is in pole position to purchase Warner Brothers Discovery, a conglomerate that controls gigantic film and television studios, streaming services like HBO Max and Discovery+, franchises like DC Comics, and TV networks such as HBO, TNT, Discovery Channel, TLC, Food Network, and CNN. This lead is largely due to Ellison’s proximity to President Trump, who will ultimately have to sign off on such a deal. Ellison has already spoken to senior White House officials about axing CNN hosts and content that Trump is said to dislike, including anchors, Erin Burnett and Brianna Keilar. It is this willingness to completely reorientate the network’s political direction that has made him the White House’s preferred purchaser of Warner Brothers Discovery. He is reportedly so wealthy that he can afford to pay in cash. Ellison, whose net worth stands at a staggering $278 billion, has been on a media spending spree of late. Earlier this year, he provided the funds for Skydance to purchase Paramount Global, another gigantic conglomerate that controls such products as CBS, BET, MTV, Comedy Central, Nickelodeon, Paramount Streaming, and Showtime. Immediately upon being appointed CEO of CBS News, Larry’s son, David, began drastically reorientating the network’s political outlook, firing staff, pushing it to become pro-Trump, and appointing self-described “Zionist fanatic” Bari Weiss as its editor-in-chief. The Ellison family, however, is far from finished. In September, President Trump signed an executive order approving a proposal to force through the sale of social media platform TikTok to an American consortium led by Ellison-owned tech company, Oracle. Under the planned arrangement, Oracle will oversee the platform’s security and operations, giving the world’s second-richest man effective control over the platform that more than 60% of Americans under thirty years of age use for news and entertainment. Louis Regan organised the hits on Mirza Shahzad Akbar and Adil Raja early on Christmas Eve, it is claimed. He led three other men in a ‘planned and sophisticated’ plot to ambush them at their homes in Cambridge and Chesham, Buckinghamshire, it is alleged. Mr Akbar is a human rights lawyer and former Pakistani government adviser, who served in the country’s cabinet under its jailed former Prime Minister Imran Khan. Meanwhile, Mr Raja is an outspoken critic of the Pakistani government and has written about the alleged corruption of the country’s military. Regan, 25, from Birmingham, is a second-year sport and exercise science student at Canterbury Christ Church University in Kent. He was crowned National Schools boxing champion aged just 14. He went on to represent his country at the European tournament, before working as a coach at his boyhood club, the Pat Benson Boxing Academy. The athlete appeared in Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Monday, after he was charged on Saturday with two counts of conspiracy to assault occasioning bodily harm. He was remanded in custody ahead of a hearing at London’s Old Bailey on February 13. Prosecutor Warren Stanier explained: ‘When Mr Akbar confirmed he was the person, he was then assaulted, punched numerous times to the face, causing him bruising, cuts and a broken nose.’ He continued: ‘A group attended Mr Raja’s address at 8am, but Mr Raja wasn’t in.’ This came after several reconnaissance trips to the pair’s houses, the lawyer added. Regan helped run boxing programmes for local students and was involved in a half-term project in collaboration with the West Midlands Police and Crime Commissioner. He is now understood to live and work in Dubai, as a ‘qualified England boxing coach’ and ‘personal trainer’, according to his social media. The boxer will be joined at the Old Bailey next month by co-defendants Karl Blackbird, 40, Clark McAulay, 39, and Doneto Brammer, 21. All three men, who are British nationals, were charged on Friday and appeared at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Saturday, where they were remanded in custody. Blackbird, from Bedworth, Warwickshire, has been accused of two charges of conspiracy to assault occasioning bodily harm for both attacks. McAulay, from Coventry, West Midlands, has been charged with conspiracy to assault occasioning bodily harm over the hit on Mr Raja. Brammer, from Wood Green, north London, has been accused over a second incident on New Year’s Eve of the same year, which saw an attempt to set Mr Akbar’s house on fire. Two men are believed to have attacked the property while no one was home, with one using a firearm to break a window before one tried to throw a burning rag through it. The material fell to the ground outside the property and did not cause any damage. Brammer is charged with possession of a prohibited weapon, conspiracy to commit arson with intent to endanger life, and conspiracy to commit arson being reckless as to whether life would be endangered. A man, 34, was also arrested at an address in Great Dunmow, Essex, over the incident on January 5. He has been released on bail until a date in April, pending further enquiries. Blackbird, McAulay, Brammer and two others were arrested on January 21 variously across the West Midlands, Warwickshire and London over the Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve attacks….

Israeli activist Noiya Tsion exposes false media reports about her death in Iran protests Noiya Tsion, an Israeli activist who manages social media accounts for artists in Israel, said she was stunned to see her photo displayed on Israel’s privately owned Channel 12 as one of the alleged victims of the Iran protests. An Israeli social media activist has exposed false reports by Israeli media claiming that she was killed during anti-government protests in Iran, saying she was shocked to read news of her own death while sitting at home. Noiya Tsion, an Israeli activist who manages social media accounts for artists in Israel, said she was stunned to see her photo displayed on Israel’s privately owned Channel 12 as one of the alleged victims of the Iran protests. The channel claimed that four Iranians of Jewish origin were killed during protests over worsening economic conditions in Iran. The broadcaster said that the toll could be higher, citing difficulty to verify the figure due to an internet blackout in the country. After the report emerged, several Israeli media outlets and journalists shared the claim on social media, with some asserting that the number of Jewish fatalities in Iran had risen to five. Channel 14, an outlet close to Israel’s right-wing camp and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, reported without verification that the victims included a father, 32, wife, 29, a relative, 25 and a child, 15, who it said were killed on the streets of Tehran. The channel also claimed, without citing sources, that 36,000 protesters had been killed nationwide, a figure that it said is “extremely high by any measure.” Tsion publicly refuted the claims in a video posted on US social media company TikTok, appearing visibly shocked as she reacted to news reports announcing her death and showing her image on screen. “I’m at home. I need to go to training in half an hour,” she said. Israeli media outlets that circulated the report did not issue apologies. Channel 12, which first aired the claim, said Monday that images of alleged Jewish victims in Iran had spread widely on social media worldwide, including in Israel. In an attempt to deflect responsibility, the channel said reports had emerged a day earlier about the deaths of four Iranian Jews during the protests and that the images circulated globally. The channel added that Tsion later saw herself on television identified as one of the Iranians killed. Tsion told Channel 12 that she has no relatives or acquaintances in Iran. Her video was widely shared by Israelis, with calls on social media to take legal action against the media outlets that published the false reports. The protests erupted in Iran in late December 2025 and lasted nearly two weeks, triggered by a sharp depreciation of the local currency and a worsening economic crisis. Demonstrations began in Tehran and later spread to several cities. President Masoud Pezeshkian acknowledged public anger and pledged to work to improve conditions. In the absence of an official casualty toll, the US-based Iranian human rights agency HRANA reported that 5,459 people were killed, including dozens of security personnel. Iran’s Foundation of Martyrs and Veterans Affairs put the death toll at 3,117. The developments coincided with fears of a possible US strike against Iran. Tehran accuses Washington of seeking to escalate sanctions, pressure and unrest to pave the way for external intervention and regime change.

US KICKS IRAN: Press TV  “In the Times reporting, Silicon Valley becomes humanitarian, the Pentagon disappears, and Elon Musk is only depicted as a benevolent billionaire so long as he’s helping advance U.S. interests.” – The Art of Making Pentagon Infrastructure Look Like Iranian Activism Jeremy Loffredo The New York Times wants readers to believe that one of the most significant information warfare operations inside a U.S. adversary state is the work of a “ragtag” group of activists. To sustain this illusion, the paper relies on strategic framing, euphemism, and the systematic removal of political context. An article published on January 15th, titled “Inside the Fight to Keep Iran Online” centers around the smuggling of tens of thousands of SpaceX Starlink terminals into Iran during the nationwide internet blackout. The framing is familiar: heroic technologists improvising under pressure and outwitting an authoritarian state. What the Times doesn’t do is situate the technology or the operation within their actual political and military contexts. Starlink is not civilian infrastructure that wandered into geopolitics by accident. It is a core component of U.S. military communications architecture. SpaceX is one of the Pentagon’s most important contractors, providing launch services, satellite deployment, and orbital infrastructure to the Department of Defense, U.S. Space Force, and U.S. intelligence agencies. Starlink itself has been integrated into almost all modern military operations, most visibly in Ukraine, where it has functioned as the primary battlefield communications infrastructure for the U.S.-backed war effort. Starlink finding its way into Iran isn’t an incidental overlap. The U.S. military does not merely “partner” with SpaceX; it relies on it. SpaceX launches classified payloads, builds military satellites, and operates a privately owned entire-Earth covering global communications network that the Pentagon classifies as a “strategic asset.” Starlink is engineered to operate in contested environments: encrypted, resilient under electronic warfare, and difficult to jam. These are not features designed for casual connectivity. They are features of a weapon. Starlink is not simply used in war; it is designed for war. Its purpose is to preserve coordination when states are trying to sever command, control, and information flow. When introduced into Iran during mass unrest, Starlink is being used exactly as intended: to defeat state control over information space, maintain opposition coordination under repression, and shift the balance of power during a political crisis. The fact that the architects are described as “activists” rather than “soldiers” does not alter the function of the system. This is military-grade communications equipment deployed inside an adversary state to weaken government authority. In strategic terms, there is no meaningful distinction. Yet in the Times’ telling, the presence of tens of thousands of these terminals is framed as an act of civil society. The word “ragtag” does heavy ideological work, transforming a smuggling operation that required state coordination, sanctions exemptions, logistics corridors, and substantial capital into something resembling a grassroots improvisation. The article briefly acknowledges that the State Department coordinated with SpaceX on sanctions exemptions and advised civil society groups on how to conceal Starlink terminals from Iranian authorities. This admission is buried deep in the text, stripped of its implications. In reality, this single sentence collapses the entire “independent activism” narrative. When the State Department coordinates the deployment of encrypted military satellite infrastructure into an adversary state during mass unrest, that is not philanthropy. It’s warfare and statecraft policy. Any remaining ambiguity is dispelled by the article’s own descriptions of Iran’s response. The Iranian government is said to have deployed “military-grade electronic weaponry” to jam Starlink signals—language that implicitly acknowledges Starlink’s military character while refusing to name it as such. The Times never asks the obvious question: why would a state deploy battlefield electronic warfare tools against what is supposedly a benign activist network?

With admission priced at $1bn, and with the suspicion they could be joining a half-baked proposal to sideline the UN, it is little wonder that they are not in a rush to join. The Board of Peace is supported by a founding executive board, which is stacked full of people who denied a genocide was and is taking place in Gaza, including US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Special Envoy Steve Witkoff, Trump’s son in law, Jared Kushner, as well as people like Mark Rowan, Wall Street financier, who intimidated US campuses into banning demonstrations in support of Palestine. They are united, too, by a profound lack of knowledge about the Middle East. The one person on the executive board who has experience of the region – if you call invading Iraq and unleashing a devastating seven-year civil war “experience” – is Britain’s very own Tony Blair. Blair, however, represents no-one but himself. The British government has been careful to make that clear by distancing itself from its former prime minister. In November when Blair’s name first popped up, Jonathan Powell, the current national security advisor and Blair’s former chief of staff in Downing Street, said privately that Blair did not represent the British state. Powell lobbied actively against Blair’s nomination, according to two separate informed sources who spoke to Middle East Eye on condition of anonymity. Powell accurately represents the view of the deep state that does not conceal its disdain for Blair’s many attempts to recapture the limelight on the international stage. A source with knowledge of the thinking inside the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) said: “That is entirely accurate. This isn’t even really in contention. Blair has no position within the British government. “His activities in terms of the Tony Blair Institute are as a private citizen. That’s not to say that there aren’t contacts but he really doesn’t represent the British state. I’d have been astonished if anybody had claimed otherwise…

Residents will be able to enter and exit the neighborhood freely, subject to security checks to prevent the introduction of weapons and hostile elements. Initially, a temporary community directorate should be appointed from among the residents. Elections for a neighborhood directorate should be held in the future as the project develops. The directorate would facilitate coordination with the relevant authorities for regional services (major infrastructure) and with funding bodies for municipal services. The directorate would manage basic municipal services such as water, sanitation, electricity, etc although service payment by residents requires further discussion. All entering residents will be registered with biometric documentation to enable identification for movement and civil services. The registry will be based on Palestinian ID numbers issued by the authorities in coordination with COGAT. Residents needing to travel abroad may use their Palestinian passports. Those who have lost documents or require new ones can process them through the Palestinian Authority (PA) via a local post office branch to be opened on-site. Residents can report deaths or births occurring during the war to the PA population registry via the local post office Since the Emirati compound is intended to be on public land, an examination is required regarding potential private rights holders, including mechanisms for registration and compensation. The public use of land with private rights requires in-depth discussion with legal entities. Donor-funded projects within the community will be coordinated by a supervisory mechanism to ensure funds go directly to local projects since the PA’s Municipal Development and Lending Fund (MDLF) [mechanism cannot] be used. Economy The Israeli Shekel will remain legal tender, as it is in the rest of Gaza and the West Bank. Electronic Shekel wallets should be primary modes of commerce as they are secure and mitigate diversion of goods and funds to the Hamas financial channels. A Bank of Palestine branch in the community would provide secure and transparent commerce. Private sector shops and markets should be prioritized to promote productive economic initiatives. Efforts should be made to promote paid employment for the maximum number of residents. Employment will be based on essential professions, public services, and unskilled labor for the public good and managed through an established employment bureau. Intensive agriculture in the outskirts of the community promotes options for employment outside the neighborhood (in non-Hamas controlled areas) will be examined, prioritizing labor-intensive farming. Residents should be permitted to import products into the Gaza Strip to facilitate and encourage commerce and economic growth. Products would be subject to security restrictions and checks at crossings….

Heads of churches in Jerusalem denounce Christian Zionism. Jerusalem church leaders condemn Christian Zionism as harmful political ideology – HERESY – The Patriarchs and Heads of the Churches in Jerusalem have issued forceful public statement denouncing Christian Zionism as a “damaging ideology” that threatens the unity of Christian communities in the Holy Land and serves external political agendas at the expense of the indigenous Christian presence. The statement warns that Christian Zionist actors, both within and outside the region, are misleading the public, promoting confusion, and interfering in the internal life of churches. Church leaders accused these actors of operating under the guise of Christian support while advancing a political project that “wounds the unity of the faithful” and undermines the pastoral mission of the historic Churches entrusted with care of the Holy Land. “These undertakings have found favour among certain political actors in Israel and beyond,” the statement reads, “who seek to push a political agenda which may harm the Christian presence in the Holy Land and the wider Middle East.” The document, signed collectively by the Patriarchs and Heads of the Churches in Jerusalem, directly challenges efforts by pro-Israel evangelical networks to insert themselves into ecclesiastical affairs in the region—efforts which have grown increasingly visible and politically influential over the past decade. The statement reiterates that only the Patriarchs and Heads of the Churches in Jerusalem have legitimate spiritual authority over Christian religious, pastoral and communal life in the Holy Land. It expresses deep concern over the fact that Christian Zionist figures have been welcomed at official levels, both locally and internationally, despite promoting theologically and politically dangerous views. Such endorsement, the Church leaders warn, emboldens interference in the pastoral governance of historic churches and disregards centuries of rooted ecclesial presence. Christian Zionism is a political theology, primarily associated with US evangelical movements, which links the return of Jews to the land of historic Palestine with biblical prophecy and endorses unwavering political support for the state of Israel. Palestinian theologians and church leaders have long denounced it as a form of theological colonialism that distorts Christianity, marginalises Palestinian Christians, and underwrites Israeli settler expansionism. In their statement, the Jerusalem church leaders affirm their unity and spiritual mandate over the sacred Christian sites in the land “where our Lord lived, taught, suffered and rose from the dead.” Quoting the Apostle Paul, they reaffirm that “we, though many, are one body in Christ,” and stress that any claim to authority outside this communion of churches undermines the faith and burdens the local Christian mission. The leaders concluded with a pastoral invocation: “May the Lord, who is the Shepherd and Guardian of souls, grant wisdom for the protection of His people and the safeguarding of His witness in this sacred land.” This is the latest in a series of warnings from Christian leaders in Jerusalem who have raised the alarm over the increasing instrumentalization of Christianity by external actors seeking to advance political agendas that ignore the lived reality of Palestinian Christians under Israeli occupation.

Andy Roberts, The Fine Print (2) – Serco, Capita contract fraud – this Is why 9 Councils are bankrupt. Nine UK councils have declared effective bankruptcy since 2018. Over £5 billion in debt. And when I followed the money, I found a pattern: the same companies kept getting paid while your local services collapsed. One man allegedly bought a private jet, a country estate, and a yacht — all with council tax money. A single IT project went from £19 million to £216 million. Treasury advisers took kickbacks to sell councils toxic loans. And the consultants investigating these failures? Often the same firms that helped create them. This is the very profitable business of bankrupting UK councils. The nine councils that declared bankruptcy: Northamptonshire (2018), Croydon (2020, 2021, 2022), Slough (2021), Thurrock (2022), Woking (2023), Birmingham (2023), Nottingham (2023). Combined debt: Over £5 billion Council jobs lost since 2012: 600,000+ Councils expecting bankruptcy in next 5 years: 50%  Birmingham City Council’s Oracle IT implementation is without exaggeration the most expensive single IT project failure in UK local government history. Well, here’s the setup. Birmingham had an old SAP system running their finances. It worked. I mean, it wasn’t glamorous, but it worked. In 2019, they decided to replace it with Oracle Fusion Cloud ERP, a shiny new system that would modernize everything. Original budget £19 million. Final cost so far, £216.5 million for a spreadsheet. Give me two grand, I’ll get it done in a week. And that’s not a cost overrun. I mean that is financial arson. The system was implemented by a company called Evosis and despite staff testing reporting just days before launch that the system was unstable and failing to load properly, they went live anyway in April 2022. Of course, the results were immediate and catastrophic. The core bank reconciliation system, you know, the bit that tracks money coming in and going out, failed completely. The council literally could not tell how much money they had. Security features that were supposed to detect fraud but never switched on. For 18 months, there was no way to track if someone was cooking the books. A Grant Thornton audit found a culture where, and I’m quoting, bad news was not welcome. Critical information about how badly the system was failing was hidden from elected counselors for approximately 13 months.

Nigel Farage’s party is taking legal action against the Ministry of Housing, Communities, and Local Government (MHCLG) over plans to allow councils to delay elections by a year due to the challenges of the local government reorganisation (LGR) programme. The case will be heard in full during a two-day hearing from 19 February. Any of the 63 local authorities seeking to be joined as an interested party or seeking permission to intervene must file an application by next Friday. The day before that deadline, the government must inform the court of “the reasons for its decision” to exercise its powers to delay local elections. In exchange for a full hearing within a month and the orders issued by the court, Reform UK’s legal team agreed not to ask Mr Justice Chamberlain to issue a temporary injunction preventing the government from announcing delays to any local elections. Julian Blake, representing the MHCLG, said the secretary of state was content to agree to a “reasonable amount of expedition” in the matter so it could be resolved before 27 March, and therefore the application was “unnecessary”. In response to today’s court order, a Reform UK spokesman said: “We said we would fight Labour every step of the way on this and we are. Labour are disgracefully trying to deny democracy. We are determined to win this case next month.” A spokesperson for MHCLG said: “This is an ongoing process and no decisions have been made yet over any delays. There is a clear precedent for postponing local elections where local government reorganisation is in progress, as happened between 2019 and 2021. “These are exceptional circumstances where councils have told us they’re struggling to prepare for resource-intensive elections to councils that will shortly be abolished, while also reorganising into more efficient authorities that can better serve local residents.” Sky News contacted all 63 councils that the government said could request a delay to their local elections, and nearly half have requested one. Twenty-nine councils have said they would like a delay or presented a case for one – 21 of which are Labour-run, four are Conservative, two are Liberal Democrat, one is Green, and one is independent. The final decision rests with the government, and ministers have said they will announce shortly which elections will not go ahead this year. Amid outrage from opposition parties that some local elections are being delayed for the second year in a row, Local Government Secretary Steve Reed argued on Sky’s Politics Hub last week: “The vast majority of elections are going ahead on schedule. “Where we have asked councils to let us know if there needs to be a delay or a postponement is where we’re going through the biggest reorganisation of councils in decades.” He explained that a third of the country has two councils, rather than one, which is money that could be spent on local services, and so they are offering to postpone elections this year if holding them could mean a delay to elections next year. All the councils that have requested a delay cited the resources needed to deliver the government’s LGR programme, and many said it would not make sense to spend hundreds of thousands of pounds to hold an election for councillor positions that would exist only for one year. But the Reform UK leader has described the government’s move as “absolutely monstrous”, and has previously accused Labour and the Tories of working together to lock his party out of power…

Vehicle dwellers have days to leave Bristol road plagued by fires and anti-social behaviour Vehicle dwellers living on a street in Bristol have been given just days left to leave, or they could face court action. Bristol City Council has deemed the site on Goodneston Road in Hillfields, which has around 20 vans, to be “seriously impacting the local community and environment,” following suspected arson attacks. Council officials started the enforcement action on Monday, 19 January, giving those living in vans and caravans seven days to leave. They’ll be given advice and signposted to relevant support services. It’s part of a new policy to turn the tide on kerbside living, by trying to offer alternatives such as housing support or temporary pitches on dedicated sites with water and electricity. The target is for 250 of the spaces by the spring. Those affected have told ITV News they currently have no other option but to live in vehicles, and say moving them isn’t solving the problem but shifting it somewhere else. The road borders land earmarked for new housing, but the several dozen people who live on the other side of the fence hold no hope they will ever be able to afford a home of their own. Allani, a middle-aged Irishman who says he’s been living in a caravan at the site for six months, said: “I’ll probably just move on to another street, somewhere else, a quieter street. “Twenty years ago, you never had caravans in Bristol, but now you’ve got caravans everywhere. Why is that? It’s because the housing stock has been run down. I don’t particularly want to live in a caravan, but I have no choice. Hillfields Labour councillor Kelvin Blake has campaigned to clear Goodneston Road and says steps must be taken to ensure vehicles don’t return. He said: “For all the sympathies many may have with those experiencing a nomadic lifestyle, the lack of even the most basic facilities and recent anti-social behaviour makes the road a no-go zone for many local people. “The majority of people are living in squalor. If they were living in the private sector and a landlord was providing facilities as poor as they’ve got here – no running water, no waste facilities, limited waste disposal – then we would be taking enforcement action.” The council says if people just take their caravan or vehicle to another road and refuse to cooperate, then legal action will begin.

The commission gathered 16,000 pieces of evidence covering the period 7 October 2023 to 31 July 2025. It reached its landmark conclusion by investigating four of the five genocidal acts defined in the 1948 genocide convention. Israel was determined to have engaged in all four of these genocidal acts as a matter of state policy. on the first killing members of the group. And so I turn to the second category of acts that make up the Palestinian genocide causing serious bodily or mental harm. As of July 30, 2025, according to the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, Otcher, the number of people injured in Gaza stood at 146,269. It’s just Do you think Trump travel? I I think he’s serious about wanting to be the center of attention. Um, and and there’s also the fact that he he he and his country has every right to expand and uh and start using the old US bases, right? the old naval bases and military bases and to reopen them, set up new satellite dishes, whatever. Nobody is stopping him. So, he doesn’t doesn’t really need what he’s asking for. Interesting. I mean, this is not so well known, is it? That the Americans do have a is it maybe you could give us the right pronunciation, Tul or Thul Air Base in Greenland. And I was also uh amazed to see last week that in the 1960s there was an American bomber with uh several nuclear bombs on it that crashed in Greenland. So I mean it doesn’t seem to me as if the the the Greenland people or the Danes have really been stopping the Americans operating there. No, they you’re right. They lost a hydro hydrogen bomb on the sea ice up up there in uh on the by the Tula base. Uh and uh we we have this um agreement this base agreement since 1951. So it’s uh you know almost older than my mother. Uh so yeah it’s like everything is there for for the taking if they uh want to do it. So that that’s kind of why I’m thinking uh I’m thinking of the movie bag the dog where everything is sort of made in the studio and um nothing is re really happening on the ground in Albania I think is in in the in the film
