I am 46 years old and i have not seen a Labour Government that was described to me by Granddad and my dad both of who are no longer alive now. We need these older people who have spoken out to be more prominent and the teachers of what Labour should be and was. Thanks for articulating what so many are thinking but are too angry to actually string a coherent sentence together! This gentleman nails it completely. Where is Starmer? What do Labour say about the challenge that disabled people face in the cost of living crisis? Nothing. I’ve not heard one Labour MP speak up. Their support stops at hardworking people. It’s appalling. I left the party because Starmer stood up at conference and said his “proudest moment” was being knighted by the queen. IF we are ever to make a better, fairer country we need to undermine NOT support the social hierarchy that concentrates wealth and power in the hands of a lazy, greedy elite??? All Starmer’s other sins fit in with the pattern of fawning acquiescence to the privileged class. I like you I voted for Starmer because I thought he was electable but now I know it was a mistake and I should have voted with my true feelings, instead we’ve got a Blair Mk2. A friend said that when people say they’ve waited 56 years for a world cup victory it’s sad but he’s been waiting for 77 years for another socialist government. Starmer is pandering to the Daily Mail, hoping if he doesn’t scare the horses they’ll support him. What he doesn’t realise is that if he cured cancer, bought world peace and solved the climate crisis he’d still be the devil’s spawn. I will not be renewing my membership and find myself without a political home. Rebecca Long Bailey would have walked that leadership election if Starmer had been honest about what he actually stood for, it’s a disgrace what he did, I can’t even remember a tory leadership candidate that acted in this way, I cannot stand them but at least they do what they set out to do for their members. If starmer can’t stand up for the working class he’s got to go or otherwise labour got no chance in next election ordinary people matter help the needy not the greedy

Jews are not discriminated against. 2. They are over-represented in Europe, North America and Latin America in positions of cultural, economic and political power. 3. They are therefore, in a position to discriminate against actually marginalised groups.” The statement went on to say that: Many were distressed by some of Miller’s statements in the past which seemed to exaggerate Israeli power but we believed they fell within the terrain of academic freedom. This recent tweet, focusing on Jews, is of a different order and has crossed a line. Miller was accused of ‘ignoring any historical, international or social context’ but if anyone was guilty of this it was JVL itself. Miller is one of a number of academics who have been targeted by Zionist organisations and supporters of the Apartheid State and been accused of anti-Semitism. Other academics include Rebecca Gould, also of Bristol University, Goldie Osurie of Warwick University and Shahd Abusalama of Sheffield Hallam University. Miller however, has always been the Zionists’ number one target. The groups who have engaged in these McCarthyist witchhunts are familiar names. They include the Community Security Trust (a Mossad project) , the Campaign Against Anti-Semitism (formed in August 2014 in the middle of Israel’s genocidal Operation Protective Edge, on the initiative of Israel’s Ministry of Strategic Affairs), Union of Jewish Students (funded by the Israeli Embassy) and the Board of Deputies. There were a number of problems with the JVL statement, not least its timing, coming as it did on the eve of Miller’s Employment Tribunal against Bristol University. The problems in the statement are exemplified by the claim that Many were distressed by some of Miller’s statements in the past which seemed to exaggerate Israeli power’. Why should anyone be ‘distressed’ by such a claim?

Up to 500 members of the Marxist group threatened to quit when it emerged the party held a “kangaroo court” to hear allegations, dating back to 2008, against the man, instead of involving police. The allegations were then dismissed by a panel of seven members of the party’s senior command. One young woman claimed Comrade Delta physically abused her in front of other party members. Then, in 2011 he pressured her into meeting and raped her in her bedroom. [They asked me] had you been drinking?… Are you sure that you said no, and are you sure you didn’t consent? Alleged rape victim She felt she would be expelled from the party if she went to the police. She quit but a local organiser persuaded her to go to the party’s internal disputes committee.

Migrant boat deaths – why aren’t the smuggler gangs arrested? Organised crime.  Authorities ‘left people to die’ despite warnings about Cape Verde migrant boat weeks before tragedy, rights group alleges Four national authorities and the European Union’s border patrol agency Frontex failed to make “sufficient” efforts to prevent the deaths of dozens of migrants off West Africa, despite being warned about the boat weeks before, a Spanish human rights NGO alleged Friday. At least 60 people are presumed dead after the boat was rescued off the coast of Cape Verde, the International Organization on Migration (IOM) told CNN on Thursday. Non-governmental organization Caminando Fronteras (Walking Borders) put the death toll at 92, adding it believed 130 people were on board the boat when it left Senegal. Family members of some of those on board had contacted Caminando Fronteras on July 20, saying that they were worried as their relatives had left Senegal for the Canary Islands 10 days earlier and not reached land, according to the organization’s founder and director, Helena Maleno Garzón.

Mastermind: The evil genius behind the migrant crisis ‘A business based on human goods’ Ferrara began investigating people-smugglers the morning of the Lampedusa sinking in October 2013. He directed his officers to ask the survivors for the phone numbers of the men who sent them. By tapping those lines and tracing calls to other numbers, he built a phone tree of thousands of numbers whose branches stretch from Africa to Europe, the Middle East, Asia and into the US.In 18 months, he and his team recorded more than 30,000 calls. Those transcripts, some of which Ferrara made available to Newsweek, reveal the existence of several wholly new, multinational organised crime syndicates, together worth around $7bn (€6bn) a year. They also identify the Ethiopian man who is among the busiest and most sophisticated of the new people traffickers. “He is a merciless criminal that, for money, has created a business based on ‘human goods’,” says Ferrara. The Ethiopian’s network offers “a complete service to migrants, running from the centre of Africa to Libya to Italy to another country from there. It includes all accommodation, transport and food”. It is, says Ferrara, a criminal operation like no other. No name, no fixed base, a fluid membership and, most remarkably, “totally without risk”. “With drugs, if you lose the drugs, you lose your money,” says Ferrara. “But in this case, you pay in advance. Even if the migrants drown, Ermias has already been paid.” Ermias Ghermay’s clients describe him as about 40, short and stocky. In conversation, he seems uneducated but street-smart: dynamic, plausible and fluent in several languages, including Arabic and Tigrinya, the ancient tongue of northern Ethiopia and Eritrea. “Really smart,” says one Palermo police officer. “He has the capacity to organise an international criminal enterprise that is very complicated – lots of people, lots of contacts, spread everywhere, and moving money and people between them. He’s a professional.” Over the months Ferrara has been tapping Ghermay’s calls, the Ethiopian has given glimpses of his operation in asides and casual boasts. Ghermay, it transpires, has been working as a people smuggler for about a decade. Like many others, he bases himself on the Libyan coast, mostly in the capital, Tripoli or, in the port of Zuwarah to the west. Importantly for EU officials thinking of targeting traffickers’ ships, Ghermay regards the wooden fishing boats or inflatable rafts he buys as disposable; they generally either sink or are confiscated on landing in Sicily. That has encouraged him to seek out the cheapest seaworthy vessels he can – inevitably, they barely float at all. To combat the chances of his clients losing their nerve or finding another boat, Ghermay came up with the idea of renting warehouses in Zuwarah in which he locks thousands for months after first removing their mobile phones.

What we know about alleged human trafficking kingpin Mered Medhanie, aka The General Extradited to Italy on Tuesday, Eritrean Mered Medhanie, 35, is believed to be at the heart of an operation to smuggle thousands of African migrants to Europe. The gang packed migrants onto barely seaworthy vessels, and put them out to the Mediterranean sea to Europe from the Libyan coast. One such vessel, believed to have been procured by the gang, sank near the Italian island of Lampedusa in 2013, with 359 refugees drowning. Nicknamed The General, Medhanie styled himself on late Libyan dictator Colonel Gaddafi, reportedly travelling in a tank. In one wiretapped conversation he allegedly bragged “nobody is stronger then me.” In July 2015, Bahrain’s Alwasat reported that he was paying millions to Islamic State’s Libyan branch to operate the smuggling gangs. Medhanie is suspected of working with Ethiopian Ghermay Ermias, who remains at large. Ermias is believed to have organised the Lampedusa trip, and when told the vessel capsised blamed the disaster on the migrants and described it as “Allah’s will” in a wiretap. Telephone intercepts obtained by Italy’s Republica paint a picture of Medhanie as a man kind and considerate when speaking of his wife and children in Sweden, but cynical and ruthless in his work. He allegedly described migrants as “numbers” or “business.” In one recording he reportedly laughed when describing overloading vessels with migrants, and boasts of smuggling more than 7,000 people to Europe. In another he considers where to hide his spoils, preferring the US or Canada: “there, they don’t ask where you got it from,” he claims.

I got some strange looks and a rebuttal. I think that event brought about a shift in the way I saw the world. The idea of high-profile assassinations had certainly occurred to me, but the thought of them happening in the UK went against everything I’d been brought up to believe. A senior Drax executive is stepping down from her position on the Climate Change Committee early after questions were raised over a “glaring” conflict of interest. Dr Rebecca Heaton will end her four and half year term on the government advisory group’s mitigation committee around four months early to take up a position at renewable energy company Ovo, the board announced today. In a statement, Heaton said the position had been the “privilege of my career” and that she was “immensely proud of the work we have done to raise climate ambition”.

The 2017 appointment attracted had criticism due to Heaton’s position as head of sustainability and policy at Drax, a company that received £832 million in subsidies from the government last year for biomass generation. “The conflict of interest has long been glaring, but in recent years became blinding,” said Phil Macdonald of energy thinktank Ember. Calling for the CCC to take a fresh look at Drax’s carbon capture plans in the wake of Heaton’s move, Macdonald added: “Drax, one of the country’s largest recipients of ‘green’ public funds, shouldn’t have a role advising the government on the best route to take action on climate change.”

Guy …? … “Big Four” Banks in Both UK and Australia Escalate Their War of Attrition Against Cash British banks are now making it harder for customers to even deposit cash in their own accounts, while three of Australia’s Big Four banks are eliminating cash services altogether from many of their branches. Leading the Charge Toward a Cashless Future The UK is already one of Europe’s most cashless economies, with physical money accounting for just 17% of retail payments, compared to 56% in 2010. As in many countries, the move away from cash accelerated sharply during the first two years of the pandemic, largely due to the explosion in online purchases during the lockdowns and overblown fears about the health risks of using cash — fears first raised by the World Health Organization and then seized upon and massively magnified by the media, banks, payment processors, fintech firms and other cash assassins. But as I reported this time last year in “Is Cold, Hard Cash Making a Comeback?“, the trend may have already reached its apogee. Survey after survey has shown that the overwhelming majority of UK citizens do not want to live in a fully cashless economy. In fact, only 3% of the population have gone fully cashless, according to a recent YouGov poll commissioned by the ATM network provider LINK. Only 12% want to live in a cashless society while 69% oppose it. In a similar survey by BusinessComaparison, 74% of respondents reported using cash over the previous month. The volume of notes in circulation has actually increased by around £11 billion since 2020, to the current total of just over £81 billion, though this is apparently more due to people “hoarding” cash (as the central banks call it) during the early months of the virus crisis than actually spending it. That said, cash remains the preferred choice of payment for millions of people and is the only choice for an estimated 6% of the population, with this figure increasing to 9% for those in vulnerable circumstances, according to UK Finance.

Imber village on Salisbury Plain requisitioned for the US Army in WW2 and never given back – open days – Imber Bus Day – ImberBus.com IMBERBUS On a cold winter’s evening back in 2009, over a few pints in a Bath pub, four transport professionals discussed where the most unlikely place would be to run a bus service. The answer was a place that the public were not normally allowed access to and so the idea of running a bus service to the village of Imber on Salisbury Plain was born. The village of Imber is no longer inhabited as the residents were evicted just before Christmas 1943 by the MoD, in order to step up army training in advance of D-Day. The villagers were promised that their village would be returned to them after the war but this was not to be and 66-years on it is still uninhabited, much of it having been damaged or destroyed. It remains in use for army training purposes but the connecting road is open to the public on a limited number of occasions each year and was previously only accessible to the public if they had their own transport. Following lengthy negotiations with the Ministry of Defence at a very senior level, the Bath Bus Company was permitted, with the cooperation of several other operators, Transport for London and Wiltshire Council’s Transport Department, to run a bus service 23A from Warminster to the village of Imber on 5th September 2009. Operated as an ordinary local bus service using 4 former London Transport Routemaster buses, the service proved to be very successful and so has now become an annual event, with services now extending beyond Imber to the villages of Market Lavington, Tilshead and Chitterne, plus other remote locations on Salisbury Plain, such as New Zealand Farm Camp and Brazen Bottom.

A Hawkish Israeli minister has suspended millions of dollars in funding to Arab towns and Palestinian education programs in the occupied East al-Quds, a move roundly condemned as racist. Arab local councils funding frozen by Israeli finance minister Smotrich Arab local councils across the occupied Palestinian territories have protested against the suspension of funding ordered by Israel’s finance minister. Videos circulating on social media on Monday showed the regime’s police pushing some of the demonstrators outside the finance ministry building who chanted, “Violent police!” The police also restrained the hands of a woman who lay prone on the ground, her forehead bleeding. Earlier this month, Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich, a key member of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s cabinet, suspended at least 200 million shekels ($52.75 million) of funds allocated for Arab municipalities. Reacting to the move, Israeli opposition leader and former Prime Minister Yair Lapid said it was racist, and amounted to “abusing Arab citizens simply because they are Arab.” Smotrich is notorious for making inflammatory statements. The mayor of the Arab city of Umm al-Fahm, Samir Mahameed, told Israeli Army Radio on Monday the finance minister was casting Arabs as thieves and criminals, which was “ridiculous” and “false.” “This is survival money, not a luxury,” said Mahameed, explaining that the funds were meant to assist in fighting soaring crime. “This is a struggle for our lives.”

Most of this, of course, is not news to regular NC readers and the commentariat, but the fact that it is being published in a news outlet like El Diario, which has, until now, largely hewed to the official line on the Ukraine war, is news. Even more newsworthy is the fact that José Luis Cebrián, one of Spain’s most influential figures, not only in the media but also in politics and business, is sounding the alarm about the dire consequences of the Ukraine proxy war for the EU, as well as the fact that most European politicians don’t seem to care. Unfortunately, it’s 18 months too late and much of the damage has already been done.

1948 – creation of the state of Israel by a UN vote. 1966 – French president Charles DeGaulle decides to eject the US military from France and to remove his country from NATO. President Sarkosy rejoined NATO 43 years later in 2009 but the French military remains outside NATO’s nuclear command structure.
1972, Sat 25 November – Daily Express front page lead story is ‘Bormann Is Alive’. Hitler’s private secretary Martin Bormann appears to have been protected by the Allies since the end of WWII. Ladislas Farago, Hungarian author of ‘Aftermath’ has the pictures of Bormann in Buenos Aires and Stuart Steven is the Jewish journalist.
1980s – Operation Gladio: 1,100 Italians are murdered in cold blood by NATO terrorists in bomb attacks carried out by fascists working under NATO, P2 and CIA direction. Italy is bringing the communists into a coalition government and so prime minister Aldo Moro is kidnapped and assassinated. The object of NATO’s ‘Strategy of Tension’ is to keep communists out of power in Italy.
1981 – former CBS WWII journalist Paul Manning publishes ‘Martin Bormann Nazi In Exile’ which details Bormann’s activities in South America using laundered Nazi loot to create and foster 750 new companies, a ‘Financial Fourth Reich’.
1989 – fall of the Berlin wall and assassination of Deutsch Bank chairman Alfred Herrhausen who has been brokering big financial agreements between Germany and the former Soviet states.
1990, 9th February – US Secretary of State James Baker promises a concerned Russian President Gorbachev that NATO will move ‘Not one inch Eastward’.
1996 – John Ainsworth-Davis, aka. Christopher Creighton, publishes Op JB which details the British commando raid planned by Ian Fleming, which brought Bormann out of Berlin by canoe at the very end of WWII
2000 – President Putin takes power in Russia giving the impression that his country will be part of NATO dominated institutions such as the WEF and G8. Meanwhile he is building up Russia’s military technology and fighting ability on all fronts to take on and defeat the Unites States if necessary.
2013 – 4-5,000 British people protest the annual Bilderberg conference in Watford, UK.
2020 – Tony Gosling publishes The Traitors of Arnhem which details the origins of the Bilderberg conferences in the deliberate British Army failures in the notorious Operation Market Garden in September 1944. This gave the Nazis time to arrange their financial affairs to regroup as a Fourth Reich after the war. Nazi loot was exchanged for safe passage by the Allies after the war and the deal was brokered by Hitler’s private secretary, Martin Bormann and Winston Churchill’s equivalent, Desmond Morton in Downing Street.
2023 – a NATO drone kills the first Libyans with no human involvement, AI has targeted individuals and launched the drone and deadly missiles. The US Air Force applies to the UK CAA to fly its deadly drones out of USAF or RAF Fairford in Gloucestershire.

Only a few years after Britain defeated fascism came the Mau Mau uprising in Kenya – a mass armed rebellion by the Kikuyu people, demanding the return of their land and freedom. The draconian response of Britain’s colonial government was to detain nearly the entire Kikuyu population of 1.5 million and to portray them as sub-human savages. Detainees in their thousands –possibly a hundred thousand or more –died from exhaustion, disease, starvation and systemic physical brutality. For decades these events remained untold. Caroline Elkins conducted years of research to piece together this story, unearthing reams of documents and interviewing several hundred Kikuyu survivors. Britain’s Gulag reveals for the first time, the full savagery of the Mau Mau war and the ruthless determination with which Britain sought to control its empire.

Daniele Ganser, Swiss author, on Operation Gladio – NATO false flag bombings blamed on communists. NATO’s Secret Armies: Operation Gladio and Terrorism in Western Europe Daniele Ganser (2004) This fascinating new study shows how the CIA and the British secret service, in collaboration with the military alliance NATO and European military secret services, set up a network of clandestine anti-communist armies in Western Europe after World War II. These secret soldiers were trained on remote islands in the Mediterranean and in unorthodox warfare centres in England and in the United States by the Green Berets and SAS Special Forces. The network was armed with explosives, machine guns and high-tech communication equipment hidden in underground bunkers and secret arms caches in forests and mountain meadows. In some countries the secret army linked up with right-wing terrorist who in a secret war engaged in political manipulation, harrassement of left wing parties, massacres, coup d’etats and torture. Codenamed ‘Gladio’ (‘the sword’), the Italian secret army was exposed in 1990 by Italian Prime Minister Giulio Andreotti to the Italian Senate, whereupon the press spoke of “The best kept, and most damaging, political-military secret since World War II” (Observer, 18. November 1990) and observed that “The story seems straight from the pages of a political thriller.” (The Times, November 19, 1990). Ever since, so-called ‘stay-behind’ armies of NATO have also been discovered in France, Spain, Portugal, Germany, Belgium, the Netherlands, Luxemburg, Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Finland, Switzerland, Austria, Greece and Turkey. They were internationally coordinated by the Pentagon and NATO and had their last known meeting in the NATO-linked Allied Clandestine Committee (ACC) in Brussels in October 1990.

Neil McEvoy: Lockdown case against Cardiff politician dismissed – Neil McEvoy was a Member of the Senedd until last May Former Member of the Senedd (MS) Neil McEvoy has had a charge of breaching lockdown restrictions dismissed in court. Mr McEvoy had been accused of distributing election leaflets in Cardiff on 15 February, which was forbidden under coronavirus legislation at the time. But the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) was accused of “appalling preparation” by the judge overseeing the hearing. Mr McEvoy had denied the allegation. District judge Stephen Harmes criticised the CPS for changing the details of the charge on the day of the trial. Prosecutors had amended the charge to relate to a different area of Cardiff. Mr McEvoy, who was elected as a member of Plaid Cymru in 2016 before being expelled and forming and leading a party called Propel, failed to be re-elected in May. The former South Wales Central MS, who remains a Cardiff councillor for Fairwater, described the conduct of the CPS as a “disgrace”. Dismissing the case, Mr Harmes also said the CPS failed to provide Mr McEvoy with substantial pieces of evidence in sufficient time to allow him to prepare his defence. Mr Harmes dismissed the evidence of the prosecution because witnesses were not present in court. Mr McEvoy, who was representing himself, also said he would like to have provided his own witness, but was not given the opportunity.

Guardian – Crime and Politics article.   Fernando Villavicencio assassination: suspects are Colombian, police say -One dead suspect and six others arrested in the assassination of Ecuadorean presidential candidate Fernando Villavicencio are Colombians, Ecuadorean police said on Thursday, and the government said it was pursuing the “intellectual authors” of the murder. The fatal shooting on Wednesday night, less than two weeks before the election, has sent shockwaves through the South American country, leading some rivals to suspend campaigning and bringing the issue of rising violence to the foreground. Villavicencio, a vocal critic of corruption and organized crime, was killed leaving an evening campaign event at an education facility in northern Quito. The deceased suspect died of injuries sustained in a shoot-out, the attorney general’s office said on Wednesday. Nine people, including a candidate for the legislature and two police officers, were injured, it added. The dead suspect had been arrested on weapons charges in July, the government said on Thursday, adding that the six detained men belong to organized crime groups. The police press office confirmed their nationalities later on Thursday afternoon. “The national police now have the first arrests of the alleged material authors of this abominable event and will employ all of their operative and investigative capacity to discover the motive of this crime and its intellectual authors,” Interior Minister Juan Zapata told journalists. The involvement of Colombian nationals in the murder is reminiscent of the 2021 killing of Haiti’s President Jovenel Moise, who was assassinated in his home by a group which included 26 Colombians and two Haitian-Americans. President Guillermo Lasso said the crime was clearly an attempt to sabotage the election, but that voting would go ahead as planned on Aug. 20, albeit amid a national state of emergency. Lasso, who declared three days of mourning, said on Thursday he has asked the U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation for help with the investigation and that a delegation would arrive in the country in the coming hours. The FBI confirmed it was assisting. Violence in Ecuador has surged in recent years, especially in cities along drug-trafficking routes like Guayaquil and Esmeraldas where citizens say they live in fear. Several Latin American countries have seen similar issues since the coronavirus pandemic. The armed forces were deploying all over the country and would remain deployed until the end of the electoral process, Defense Minister Luis Lara told journalists. “Citizens have the guarantee that the armed forces will provide the necessary security for the realization of the vote, the vote of Ecuadoreans will be the best response to the mafias and their allies,” he said. Villavicencio’s party Movimiento Construye on Thursday rejected what it said was “political use” of his death and called for a speedy investigation in a statement posted on X, the social media site previously known as Twitter. The party condemned an unverified video circulating on social media purportedly from a gang called Los Lobos, or The Wolves, claiming responsibility for Villavicencio’s killing, alleging he had received millions of dollars from them for his campaign and threatening fellow candidate Jan Topic. Neither the police nor the attorney general’s office responded to requests for comment about the authenticity or origin of the video, which features more than a dozen black-clad and masked men waving high-powered rifles. Movimiento Construye said: “Those who sit to negotiate with mafiosos, those who give them microphones, those who generate fear campaigns with trick videos in the name of criminal organizations and who take the name of Fernando Villavicencio in vain with lies are responsible for the crime.” Los Lobos have thousands of members, according to some reports, and are active in the country’s violent prison system. Former President Rafael Correa, who was heavily criticized in office by Villavicencio, then a journalist, re-posted the video overnight, but said in a post on Thursday morning that it was fake, without providing more information. Villavicencio had been sentenced to 18 months in prison for defamation over statements made against the former president, but he fled to Indigenous territory within Ecuador and later was given asylum in Peru, before returning after Correa left office. BALLOT BOX JUSTICE Candidate Luisa Gonzalez, who is running for Correa’s party and leading with 29.3% support, expressed horror at the killing, but did not suspend her campaign. Indigenous candidate Yaku Perez and law-and-order hopeful Topic both suspended their campaigns, while businessman Otto Sonnenholzner begged the government to take action. Perez said he hoped to hold a meeting with the other candidates and the Catholic Church to discuss a “national security agreement,” without providing further details. Villavicencio’s party said on Wednesday that discussions had been held about whether to suspend campaigning due to recent political violence, including the July murder of the mayor of Manta. Villavicencio opposed a suspension, it said, saying it would be an act of cowardice. The party can choose another candidate, the electoral court said, but ballots have already been printed and distributed and Villavicencio’s name and photo appear on them. The party said in a Thursday statement it would take time to mourn before making decisions about the vote and asked for international oversight on the investigation. “The only comfort left to us is to valiantly vote and see justice done at the ballot box,” it said. Villavicencio, who police said had three rings of security on Wednesday, had on Tuesday made a report to the attorney general’s office about an oil business, but no further details of his report were made public. There were 3,500 violent deaths in Ecuador in the first half of the year, according to police figures, with nearly half occurring in the largest city, Guayaquil. Lasso, who called the elections early amid an impeachment bid against him, has been criticized for failing to tamp down violence, despite using emergency powers to authorize soldiers to patrol the streets and use their weapons against criminals. His government blames bloodshed on the streets and in prisons on criminal infighting to control drug trafficking routes used by Mexican cartels, the Albanian mafia and others. Beyond security, employment and migration are major issues in the presidential contest. Villavicencio, a married father, had 7.5% support in polls, placing him fifth out of eight candidates. His body will be released to two people chosen by his wife, including his lawyer, the attorney general’s office said on Twitter.

The Voice editor slams ‘Bristol’s turnip-munching racists’ – The editor of the UK’s only Black national newspaper has blamed “Bristol’s turnip-munching racists” for Marvin Rees not being selected by Labour members in Bristol North East. Lester Holloway was responding to Damien Egan being selected over Bristol’s mayor to be Labour’s candidate in the new constituency. Rees has twice won a citywide vote to be elected mayor but failed to convince Labour members that he should be their prospective parliamentary candidate. Writing in The Voice, Holloway said that that Bristol has “shafted its Black mayor (again)”, adding that Rees’ defeat “speaks volumes about a city with a history of racism denial”. “While Rees was re-elected in 2021, his period as city mayor was already scarred by constant criticism,” writes Holloway. “He was accused of vainglorious self-promotion and globe-trotting jollies when he flew abroad to try and drum up business for Bristol, even though other metro mayors do exactly the same thing… “Whether saving money or spending it, Rees was the bad guy. Whatever he did was the wrong decision in his critics eyes. And so the narrative of a ‘disaster mayor’ took hold. “He was criticised for investing more money in the previously popular Bristol Energy company when it lost money before it was split up and sold off, with some of the mayor’s fiercest critics the very people who were Bristol Energy’s strongest supporters when it was established.” Holloway said that “when costs for renovating the Bristol Beacon, formerly Coulson (sic) Hall, an arts and performance venue, escalated, Rees was blamed. And when he hit back at critics in city hall – in a much milder manner than Boris Johnson routinely did as London mayor – Rees was labelled a ‘bully’. If they didn’t catch him in the wash they got him in the rinse…

How UK university’s reports spread Western propaganda on Xinjiang – The series of Xinjiang reports produced by the Helena Kennedy Centre of Sheffield Hallam University, is one of the latest in shoddy research funded by the US government to fabricate false claims, China Daily investigates. The US media and government has perpetuated the accusation that forced labor exists in Xinjiang, and launched rounds of sanctions banning Xinjiang products. Some of the often-cited ‘evidence’ is a series of papers from Sheffield Hallam University’s ‘Forced Labor Lab’. However, a cursory reading of their reports shows a lack of evidence, demonstrating a lack of fundamental academic integrity from the institution and the authors. The three primary entities behind the reports are authors Laura Murphy and Nyrola Elima, and the Helena Kennedy Center, for whom the report was produced. Laura Murphy began her academic career researching the impact of African American slavery in North America. After 2019, Murphy had a sudden change of interest and became solely focused on writing about China and Xinjiang, completely ignoring her previous specialization. While topic changes are not uncommon for academics, this sudden change in 2019 coincides with a generous grant of over 60,000 USD from the ‘National Endowment for the Humanities Public Scholar Award’. At the same time, she began to retweet messages from far-right, ethno-nationalists, and religious fundamentalist groups, such as the World Uygur Congress, which is connected with the terrorist group ETIM. Then in the 2020-2021 period, she and her partner organizations received an additional combined funding of 3,000,000 USD from the US department of justice.

The poorest Nigeriens are unable to eat three times a day because of France.” The businessman said thousands had taken part in Monday’s protest in Zinder in support of the military takeover. He said he had asked a local tailor to take material in the Russian colours of white, blue and red and make an outfit for him, denying that it had been paid for by pro-Russian groups. Niger is home to 24.4 million people where two in every five live in extreme poverty, on less than $2.15 a day.

The superseding indictment unsealed on Thursday alleges that Trump sought to delete surveillance footage at the estate in an effort to obstruct the investigation. Meanwhile, a letter sent to Trump by special counsel Jack Smith earlier this month indicated he may soon be indicted on new federal charges related to efforts to overturn the 2020 election. He is already facing criminal charges in New York over alleged hush money payments made to women who have accused him of sexual encounters during his 2016 presidential campaign. He has pleaded not guilty to those charges. The former president has turned his legal problems into the main message of his White House bid, framing the charges as an effort by President Joe Biden to weaponize the Justice Department against his potential rival in 2024. The White House has said the president has had no involvement in the cases. Trump said leaders of other countries were at “the top of their game” during an attack on Biden. “We have somebody that’s not at the top of his game, never was at the top of a game,” he said. “We have a guy who’s a dumb son of a b****.” He added: “Every dollar spent attacking me by Republicans is a dollar given straight to the Biden campaign.” Vows To Investigate President Trump promised to appoint a special prosecutor to investigate Biden and his family if he wins a second term in the White House. “When we win the election a little more than a year from now, I will appoint a real special prosecutor to expose the monumental corruption of the Biden crime family once and for all,” Trump said to loud cheers. RAF Fairford in Gloucestershire will be a base for the Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAV) providing the USAF can persuade the UK’s Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) to give them dedicated airspace in which to fly. The Americans are keeping tight-lipped about their precise plans, but documents submitted by the UK’s Ministry of Defence (MOD) to the CAA sheds light on their intentions. They say there is “an emerging requirement to operate regularly from RAF Fairford” and, given fears about their safety in a “complex and congested” airspace, “they will not have the required detect and avoid capability” to spot other aircraft – a concern raised by Britain’s air traffic service NATS who say that Fairford “sits in an area of intense aerial activity”. Chris Cole is the founder of Dronewars. He researches and monitors the use of military drones. He argues that practically and politically, their use in the UK needs careful consideration. “The US must not be used allowed to use drones from RAF Fairford. The underlying technology is far from mature, and drones crash an awful lot. “The Global Hawk drone, for example, we know publicly that’s crashed at least four times over the last year. And Reaper drones have crashed at least 80 times over the last decade. “Drones have been used outside of armed conflicts more and more to undertake so-called targeted killings and those killings are undermining global peace and security. “Drones are normalising warfare, making warfare much more likely.”

The Trilateral Commission describes itself as a “global membership organisation” which seeks “to discuss and propose solutions to some of the world’s toughest problems”. Its meetings are strictly off-the-record. It was founded in 1973 by billionaire banker David Rockefeller as a networking group for elites from the US, Europe and Japan. Rockefeller was close to the leadership of the CIA at the time. Membership records seen by Declassified show Starmer joined the Trilateral Commission at some point between March 2017 and October 2018. He left at some point between April 2021 and June 2022. Starmer was a member of the Trilateral Commission alongside two former heads of the CIA, and spoke at one of its London events alongside the former heads of MI5 and GCHQ. The current Labour leader served as Jeremy Corbyn’s shadow Brexit secretary from 2016-19. In this role, he was integral to the push for a second referendum on exiting the European Union, a position that many fault for Labour’s catastrophic performance in the 2019 election.

They are defying the West African regional body known as ECOWAS, which said on Sunday it could use force if Niger’s coup leaders don’t reinstate the democratically elected president, Mohamed Bazoum, within a week. Another coup-affected nation, Guinea, in a separate statement supported Niger’s junta and urged ECOWAS to “come to its senses.”

This afternoon, the ship was said to be burning out of control in the North Sea and rescue vessels were working to save it from sinking close to one of the world’s most important migratory bird habitats. ‘Currently there are a lot of vessels on scene to monitor the situation and to see how to get the fire under control,’ coast guard spokeswoman Lea Versteeg told the Associated Press in a telephone interview. ‘But it’s all depending on weather and the damage to the vessel, so we’re currently working out how we can make sure that… the least bad situation is going to happen.’ Asked if it is possible the ship could sink, Ms Versteeg said: ‘It’s a scenario we’re taking into account and we’re preparing for all scenarios.’ Early this afternoon, two ships were alongside the freighter hosing down its sides in an attempt to cool them, the coast guard said, but firefighters were still unable to attempt to extinguish flames on the ship and smoke was billowing out of its hold.

Now under pressure for clean energy they correctly agree to develop new oil and gas wells but have resurrected or stolen Richard Budge’s coal scheme for a gas powered power station using the clean coal technology. What a missed opportunity, this could have regenerated the coalfield and reopened a new mine in Doncaster .
