Part One – Local and National News Review

Jude English, expelled Bristol Green Councillor, joins Tony and Martin. What Bristol Council was like under Marvin. What working with the Greens was like. Jude was part of Place Scrutiny – Bristol Arena. No democracy under Marvin.  No-fault suspensions of Green Party Members The FSU is a non-partisan, mass membership public interest body that stands up for the free speech rights of its members and campaigns for free speech more widely. We write on behalf of two our members, Zoe Hatch and Jude English. Both have been active members of the Green Party of England and Wales, and held elected office. Both have been subject to disciplinary procedures by the party, resulting largely from their involvement with the Green Party Women group, and the positions they have openly taken on the issues of sex and gender. We believe that the treatment of our two members, and the handling of wider issues pertaining to sex and gender, have implications for freedom of expression and its proper place within political parties. We are therefore writing to draw your attention to concerns we have with how the Green Party may not be giving due regard to the importance of this fundamental democratic principle in its handling of policy discussions. We ask that you give these matters careful and serious consideration. We have seen evidence to suggest that the problem extends well beyond the two members on whose behalf we write here, and may be systemic to the Party. Disciplinary procedure is being weaponised to settle legitimate debate around policy and bypass the democratic process. For reasons set out below, we believe this may be unlawful. Factual and conceptual backgroundThe issues relate to the debate between two schools of thought on sex and gender. This is a debate which is taking place not just within the Green Party, but within wider society. The first school of thought, which may be described as the ‘gender identity’ belief, summed up by the statement‘trans women are women, trans men are men, and non-binary identities are valid’. This view is also written into the Green Party’s charter of Rights and Responsibilities, at RR530…..

Politicians pretending to know what they’re doing. Big business controls politics. Marvin the ex-mayor’s new job at Bristol University: honorary professor of planning monstrosities. Twitter X – Jude Brew. Green Women’s Declaration – Jude’s complaint. Free Speech Union letter supporting Jude. Jude was cancelled from the Green Party for saying you can’t choose your sex. Freedom of speech. Green Party not professional. Intellectual rigour needed. Eight Green Party Members Expelled in Alleged Gender Critical Purge Eight members of the Green Party, including one former councillor, claim to have been expelled from the party for expressing gender critical views. This week, eight members received a letter notifying them of their expulsion from the party. The letter claimed they had broken a clause of the party constitution which prohibits members from campaigning for someone who is standing against a Green Party candidate. Seven of the eight members expelled had supported the campaign of Alison Teal, who was suspended from the Green Party in 2022 for arguing that sex is a biological characteristic which cannot change over time. She is now running as an Independent in Sheffield Central at the General Election. However, with six of the eight expelled previously signing the Green Women’s Declaration, which advocates for women as a sex, and three as current or former members of the Green Party Women Committee, those expelled saw this as “a fundamental attack on women who defend their sex-based rights”. A statement by the Green Women’s Declaration following the expulsions said “the Green Party has no agreed definition for ‘campaigning’ and some of the expelled did as little as sharing social media posts acknowledging a candidacy.” It added: “At least 17 signatories to the Green Women’s Declaration have now been expelled or suspended, mirroring the actions of the Scottish Green Party who expelled 14 members for signing our sister declaration.” While PoliticsHome previously reported the Green Women’s Declaration “were considering” taking legal action, English now said that with “about 20 people who have had their membership of a political party denied purely on the grounds of their belief”, they are “now at the point where we report to the EHRC [Equality and Human Rights Commission]”. English was expelled this week for retweeting three tweets in support of Teal. However, English claims she is technically no longer a Green Party member so cannot be expelled. She said: “I’ve been expelled with no disciplinary process. The reason they think they can do this with no disciplinary process is because I campaigned against another Green Party candidate in Sheffield. “But I am not a member of the Green Party at this point, so that can’t be used. So we have to go back to the original complaint, which was the complaint about my gender critical beliefs which originally expelled me on 16 March. “What it really makes clear is this is just a process where they’ve got a list of people, and they’re just going: ‘[let’s do] anything we can do to get rid of these people outside out of our party’”. English said her expulsion was evidence that members of the Green Party Regional Council, which oversees disciplinary processes, are “just shooting down anyone left, right and centre” who disagrees with gender identity ideologies within the party.

Tony, Dave and Martin’s NOT The BCfm Politics show CANCELLED/EVICTED from People’s Republic of Stokes Croft (PRSC) arts centre – email from Chloe Slater and Keith Cowling explaining why: ‘Transphobic’ leaflets were left in the building by a recent guest! Compromise and political discourse lacking: Subject: Use of the Radio Studio From: Chloe Slater <chloe@prsc.org.uk> Date: Sun, 23 Jun 2024 10:35. Hi Tony, We understand it hasn’t been too easy to share the space over the last few months and we appreciate your efforts to make it work. We also appreciate all of the work that you and Dave have done around the radio suite over the years and we take responsibility for not pushing the radio further, when you were willing to help us out. We’ve recently become aware of some transphobic material that was left both in the leaflet box outside the studio and pinned to the board outside. You’ve been asked previously to be careful about the type of material brought into the building by you or your guests and we don’t believe that you would have been unaware of just how inappropriate and offensive it would be to users of our building. It’s vital that we maintain an environment that welcomes all of our community and we consider this an extremely serious breach of that trust. In light of this, we will no longer be able to offer you use of the radio suite. Please let us know when you or Dave would like to come and retrieve your equipment and drop off your keys. Kind regards PRSC Directors (Keith Cowling, chair) PRSC / Stokes Croft China 17-35 Jamaica St Bristol BS2 8JP.

The irony of a man taking hormones, and trying to become a woman, being judge and jury on how women’s rights are allowed to be discussed. Staff Picks: Pride by Chloe Slater: I was originally planning on writing this as a personal piece on what Pride means to me as a trans person and what inspired me to create this set of designs. Events of the last two weeks have jolted me into a rethink of what Pride means to all of us, and why it’s more important than ever to remember its origins and that the fight for rights is not a battle won. Pride is such an important time for so many in the LGBTQ+ community, it’s become a month when we celebrate being able to express our identities and remember the efforts of so many and the lives lost in the struggles to gain our rights, freedoms and the relative safety enjoyed by many in this community. And for so long it’s felt like society has been moving slowly but inexorably in the direction of progress, towards more equal rights and opportunities and greater acceptance by the public at large. These last weeks have been a stark reminder of how far we still have to go, and how easily those rights can and will be lost if we lose focus and allow others to spread misinformation and fear about the community and our goals and needs. Billionaire author JK Rowling, at a time of global unrest and protest over the Black Lives Matter movement, decided to use her considerable influence and platform to pen an essay in response to criticism she received over a number of transphobic tweets. I’m not going to link it, you can find it on her blog, but it’s honestly one of the most disheartening and distressing anti trans pieces I’ve ever read – and I’ve read a lot! – because it’s carefully presented to seem moderate and reasonable, and comes from the author of one of the most successful and loved series of all time – with a personal twitter following larger than the entire UK trans population. It’s a skilled piece of manipulation, full of misinformation (not sourced, of course), misinterpretations and gentle slurs that, if you aren’t well versed in the type of language used by those who seek to curtail our rights, might appear to be common sense and right minded thinking. I don’t have the time to address the specifics of the essay but thankfully you can find a thorough rebuttal here. And if you’re in the mood to learn more about how a subset of left leaning ‘gender critical’ feminists ended up with attitudes towards trans people that are more akin to those of the far right then this superb piece taught me a lot and might be helpful for you too! On the back of Rowling’s essay came a leak to the Times on Sunday about how the Minister for Women and Equalities, Liz Truss plans to reject reforms to the Gender Recognition Act – reforms that would simply have removed some of the cost and bureaucracy around getting a Gender Recognition Certificate – supported by 70% of respondents to the consultation (which were deemed irrelevant seemingly due to respondents being too close to and caring too much about the issue). But further to this, and much more worrying are her plans to roll back rights that have been in place without issue for a decade – to use public facilities that correspond to our gender identity. This will put trans people, one of the most vulnerable populations in our country, as well as any non gender conforming cis women, at direct risk of harassment and harm. You can read more about the reforms and single-sex spaces here.

But this cancellation of NOT The BCfm Politics Show show by PRSC was a decision really made by the PRSC board, hand-picked and chaired by Keith Cowling. PRSC founder Chris Chalkley was expelled in an upsetting 2019 coup, organised by the same Keith Cowling. So who is Keith Cowling who also underhandedly removed Tony Gosling from the Bristol Community Land Trust (BCLT) board, which Tony helped found, seven years ago? Bristol’s community housing success story It might not single-handedly solve Bristol’s housing crisis, but a ground-breaking project in Fishponds has certainly transformed the lives of the people who now call it home. Keith Cowling, chair of BCLT’s volunteer board, has believed in the project from the start and played an integral role in getting it off the ground. Speaking on Monday, he admits it has been challenging to say the least and nearly failed on more than one occasion. “This little development has changed a number of lives and they all have their own moving stories,” says Cowling. “Until we proved that we could build houses, CLT didn’t warrant much attention, but now we have proved we can, everything has changed. “Although this programme hasn’t solved the problems of how to build a lot of high quality, low cost homes, it has shown that a solution is possible. The project has created a process for a bunch of Bristol people in housing need.”

11th Hour Blog with Jennifer Bilek – The Billionaire Family Pushing Synthetic Sex Identities (SSI) The wealthy, powerful, and sometimes very weird Pritzker cousins have set their sights on a new God-like goal: using gender ideology to remake human biology by Jennifer Bilek June 14, 2022 One of the most powerful yet unremarked-upon drivers of our current wars over definitions of gender is a concerted push by members of one of the richest families in the United States to transition Americans from a dimorphic definition of sex to the broad acceptance and propagation of synthetic sex identities (SSI). Over the past decade, the Pritzkers of Illinois, who helped put Barack Obama in the White House and include among their number former U.S. Secretary of Commerce Penny Pritzker, current Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker, and philanthropist Jennifer Pritzker, appear to have used a family philanthropic apparatus to drive an ideology and practice of disembodiment into our medical, legal, cultural, and educational institutions. I first wrote about the Pritzkers, whose fortune originated in the Hyatt hotel chain, and their philanthropy directed toward normalizing what people call “transgenderism” in 2018. I have since stopped using the word “transgenderism” as it has no clear boundaries, which makes it useless for communication, and have instead opted for the term SSI, which more clearly defines what some of the Pritzkers and their allies are funding—even as it ignores the biological reality of “male” and “female” and “gay” and “straight.” The creation and normalization of SSI speaks much more directly to what is happening in American culture, and elsewhere, under an umbrella of human rights. With the introduction of SSI, the current incarnation of the LGBTQ+ network—as distinct from the prior movement that fought for equal rights for gay and lesbian Americans, and which ended in 2020 with Bostock v. Clayton County, finding that LGBTQ+ is a protected class for discrimination purposes—is working closely with the techno-medical complex, big banks, international law firms, pharma giants, and corporate power to solidify the idea that humans are not a sexually dimorphic species—which contradicts reality and the fundamental premises not only of “traditional” religions but of the gay and lesbian civil rights movements and much of the feminist movement, for which sexual dimorphism and resulting gender differences are foundational premises.

How has the transgender issue become so toxic? Or was it always designed to be so in order to fracture and destroy communities, campaigns and organisations, particularly on the left? Origins in the CIA interference with 1960s French politics. Many believe postmodernism and post-structuralism have been deliberately funded to infiltrate the left in order to destroy it. On the origins and development of postmodernism …This brings us to the postmodernists themselves. A significant theoretical trend in this period was the wave of post-structuralist theorists. Structuralism, broadly, argued that things had to be understood in terms of their structural interrelations. A core premise of structuralism is that “consciousness is structured like a language.” They believed that our thoughts and ideas weren’t a reflection of objective material reality, but rather that the “symbolic order” of language, along with all of its linguistic rules, stood in a mediator between reality and our conception of reality. This premise isn’t fundamentally opposed to Marxism. As Stalin said in “Marxism and Problems of Linguistics”, “Whatever thoughts arise in the human mind and at whatever moment, they can arise and exist only on the basis of the linguistic material, on the basis of language terms and phrases. Bare thoughts, free of the linguistic material, free of the ‘natural matter’ of language, do not exist.” Siraj explains in Post-modernism Today that the problem with the structuralist understanding is that “all aspects of the social world are shaped by the structure of language.” In other words, for the structuralists, it isn’t class struggle, but language that shapes society. Stalin’s main point was that language doesn’t act as a superstructure. The structuralists go into the realm of idealism by arguing that language is determinant. Post-structuralism seeks to expand upon this by arguing that these linguistic structures are constituted by systems of power. These theorists, such as the French philosophers Michel Foucault, drifted into abstraction, relativism, and subjective idealism. The post-structuralists argued that we cannot criticize systems of power by relying on binary notions like exploiter and exploited that ground Marxist class analysis. Instead, they argued that we should use textual interpretation, drawing from linguistics, anthropology and psychology, to criticize power. Furthermore, since reality is shaped by language and power, the postmodernists opposed any notion of objectivity and universalism as what Jean-François Lyotard called “meta-narratives.” These “meta-narratives,” they said, were just big stories, or overarching myths, that we tell in a futile attempt to make sense of a reality that we cannot ultimately comprehend. Historical necessity and universality therefore were discarded as everything is judged to be contingent and relative. As the postmodernists would have it, Marxism is mythology. Therefore, they subjected these “meta-narratives” to the same idealist linguistic criticism. Since we could only analyze language and not reality itself, language came to stand in for material reality. The post-structuralists, therefore, focused largely on critical analysis of art and literature, but the ideas they developed spread into the then largely petit bourgeois and student-led social movements. There, postmodern discourse based on difference, identity and language struggle to displace the centrality of class analysis and the universality of Marxism-Leninism as the ideology of the working class struggle against capitalist exploitation and oppression. Michel Foucault was probably the most influential postmodern theorist, so we should examine his main ideas. He was a student of Althusser who devoted himself to developing the thought of the German philosopher Friedrich Nietzsche in a postmodern context. Foucault was originally drawn to Western Marxism, but later rejected Marxism completely. Nevertheless, he presents himself as a friend of the oppressed, focusing his work on the treatment and mistreatment of mental illness (in Madness and Civilization and The Birth of the Clinic), prisoners (in Discipline and Punish), and sexual repression (The History of Sexuality).

BIG, HIDDEN, Constitutional changes coming to the UK with Keir Starmer next week – Peter Hitchens – what he thinks is real agenda of Labour Party under Starmer. PETER HITCHENS: Vote in Labour and you will have 20 dispiriting years in which to rue the mistake By Peter Hitchens for The Mail on Sunday This country’s Left-wing elite feel it in their fingers and toes, the prospect of full political power flowing back to their faction. They’re not supposed to gloat before Labour win – as they expect to do on Thursday. Professional radicals such as Sir Keir Starmer keep their glee under control. They know that you can lose elections in the last 36 hours if you look too sure of yourself. But the Left’s new aristocracy of showbiz grandees have no such discipline. This is why you should take careful note of the outburst, at yet another awards ceremony, by a very rich and famous actor called David Tennant. I believe he is often on TV. Mr Tennant decided to attack the Tory Minister Kemi Badenoch, saying he would like to live in a world where Ms Badenoch ‘doesn’t exist any more’. He also said she should ‘shut up’. Sir Keir will have ground his teeth when he heard this. The last thing he wants is for people to notice just how nasty, arrogant and dangerous the Blairite project he leads has become. But he cannot control this branch of his movement, in the way he can discipline MPs and sycophantic media. What was Mr Tennant saying? He was saying Ms Badenoch should be silenced because he disagrees with her opinions. But far worse than that, he was wishing she was dead. Don’t be shocked. What else does it mean to say he wishes she did not exist? She does exist. How else can she cease to exist except by dying? This is common currency on the modern compassionate Left. Barely a week passes on anti-social media when some idealist does not go on Twitter to suggest that I should become dead. I take it as a compliment. They think themselves so good that those who disagree with them are not just wrong (as I think they are) but evil. Now, this does not mean that Keir Starmer, if he wins on Thursday, will begin building Stalin-style Gulag camps in which his opponents can be worked and starved to death. Modern Leftism is far more sophisticated than that. Why lock people up when you can simply threaten them with unemployment if they step out of line? Amnesty International will never intervene because some local authority worker has lost her job for wearing a cross or whatever it is. And there is no need at all to actually shoot people you wish did not exist. You cancel them instead, denying them access to broadcasting, publishing, and of course to anti-social media – where we learned during Covid of the many methods by which unwanted persons or opinions can be suppressed or made invisible. Do you think that, under a Starmer government, the BBC and Ofcom will become more sympathetic to conservative points of view? Or that school teachers and university lecturers who do not conform will prosper? The children of conservative patriots will be taught, even more than they are already, to despise their parents and their opinions. This will be a big part of the coming wave of changes, in taxation, in the justice system, in the constitution, in the operation of new ‘rights’ for favoured categories, in the granting of votes to people friendly to the Left. Then there will be a continuing stream of appointments, to the House of Lords, to state bodies, to key committees, of people loyal to Starmerism. I agree with those who accuse the Tories of failing to counter any of this. But the mere existence of a non-Labour majority in Parliament has been a brake on the total swallowing of the state machine by people who think like Mr Tennant and talk like Sir Keir Starmer. If Labour wins, all this will happen. But it is still preventable. The election does not take place until Thursday. For most of us there is still time to avoid a terrible mistake. The polls mean nothing if we defy them. Why let your mind, will and hand be influenced by a (quite possibly inaccurate) survey of what other people will do? Be a human, not a flock animal. No doubt many of my readers think the Tories are useless, but they cannot believe this as strongly as I do. Even so, this week’s poll is not a referendum on the Tories. It is an election which will choose the next government. And if you fail to vote against Labour in sufficient numbers, I reckon you will have 20 hard, dispiriting years in which to regret your mistake, in putting into government people who think they are so good that they wish you and I were dead.

C4 expose of Reform ‘Undercover – Inside Reform UK’ – racist and homophobic opinions. Exclusive: Undercover inside Reform’s campaign – evidence of homophobia and canvasser’s racism Channel 4 News has gone undercover in Nigel Farage’s prospective seat in Clacton, following individuals closely associated with Reform UK’s campaign Channel 4 News has carried out an undercover investigation within the Reform UK campaign in Clacton, exposing examples of racist language and an apparent admission that the party has breached the local electoral campaign spending limit in the seat. An undercover investigator conducted filming for Channel 4 News within the Reform UK campaign in Clacton, with filming concluding last week. The recorded footage reveals a Reform UK canvasser openly making racist and Islamophobic comments to potential voters on the ground, as he represents the party. It also includes footage of a conversation between: George Jones, a veteran of UKIP and the Brexit Party now running events for Mr Farage’s campaign; Rob Bates, a senior Reform UK campaigner; and Roger Gravett, Reform UK’s regional manager for London and candidate for Tottenham. Central to the footage is discussion of apparent challenges facing the campaign, including local spending restrictions. Referring to the legal spending limit for a campaign in a single seat, Mr Gravett says: “A short campaign you’ve got, I don’t know, twenty grand or whatever it is, the figure”. In response, Mr Bates is heard saying: “We’ve spent double that already, don’t worry”, before Mr Jones adds: “It’s twenty grand minus… It’s six for VAT. So actually it’s only f****** fifteen.

Nigel Farage’s view on the Ukraine war. Farage 10 years ago in EU predicting war in Ukraine due to provocation from West. Covid lockdowns. Modern thinking left brained reliance on ‘science’ and power grabs. Sunak failed to deter Reform ..Express ‘NATO provoked war in Ukraine’ says Farage – Reform UK surges ahead of Tories in bombshell new poll despite raging Ukraine row EXCLUSIVE – Nigel Farage’s party could be on course for swathes of seats according to a new poll for the Daily Express. The rows surrounding Nigel Farage’s views on Ukraine have failed to deter momentum for Reform UK ahead of the General Election, a new poll has revealed. An exclusive poll for the Daily Express by Whitestone Insight, which surveyed 2,012 people across Wednesday and Thursday of this week, found Reform UK up one point to a whopping 21 percent compared to last week. Meanwhile, the Conservatives have dropped another percentage point to just 18 percent, resulting in the gap between Mr Farage and Rishi Sunak widening to three points. The latest poll will spark more jitters at Tory high command with less than a week to go until polling day. Labour meanwhile is down one point to 38 percent, but the gulf between Sir Keir and Mr Sunak still means Labour is on course for an unprecedented super majority. Sponsored Feeding the poll into Electoral Calculus’ seat prediction model, it suggests Labour is on course for a majority of 244 seats over all the other parties. In stark contrast, the Tories would crash to just 57 seats according to this poll, with Reform UK taking to the Commons with a substantial 31 wins. The Lib Dems, who are down one point to 11 percent in today’s Whitestone poll, would become the official opposition with 72 seats in the Commons. Lachlan Rurlander, a consultant at Whitestone Insight, reacted: “With one week to go until polling day, these results suggest that the job of Leader of the Opposition is all to play for. “Reform UK have managed to sustain some momentum and have achieved a three-point lead over the Conservatives, despite what has widely been seen as a difficult week for Nigel Farage.”

The Coddling of the American Mind: How Good Intentions and Bad Ideas Are Setting Up a Generation for Failure by Jonathan Haidt and Greg Lukianoff – creep of health and safety. In this book, free speech campaigner Greg Lukianoff and social psychologist Jonathan Haidt investigate a new cultural phenomenon of “safetyism”, beginning on American college campuses in 2014 and spreading throughout academic institutions in the English-speaking world. Looking at the consequences of paranoid parenting, the increase in anxiety and depression amongst students and the rise of new ideas about justice, Lukianoff and Haidt argue that well-intended but misguided attempts to protect young people are damaging their development and mental health, the functioning of educational systems and even democracy itself. – No one is omniscient or infallible, so a willingness to evaluate new ideas is vital to understanding our world. Yet universities, which ought to be forums for open debate, are developing a reputation for dogmatism and intolerance. Haidt and Lukianoff, distinguished advocates of freedom of expression, offer a deep analysis of what’s going wrong on campus, and how we can hold universities to their highest ideals. — Steven Pinker Our behavior in society is not immune to the power of rational scientific analysis. Through that lens, prepare yourself for a candid look at the softening of America, and what we can do about it. — Neil deGrasse Tyson We can talk ourselves into believing that some kinds of speech will shatter us, or we can talk ourselves out of that belief. The authors know the science. We are not as fragile as our self-appointed protectors suppose. Read this deeply informed book to become a more resilient soul in a more resilient democracy. — Philip E. Talk Radio, Peter Cardwell – David from Exeter on Labour rejoining the EU and EU army. UK’s Labour would target defense ‘pact’ with EU The opposition party plans to create a ‘bespoke’ defense relationship with the EU if it forms the next government. BRUSSELS — The U.K. Labour Party wants a much closer relationship with the EU, France and Germany on defense, if it takes power after a general election in 2024. Shadow Defense Secretary John Healey told POLITICO that Labour will upend the Tories’ defense and security policy, by aiming to deepen military cooperation around the EU. “We would look to put in place systematic cooperation and a defense and security pact with the European Union,” Healey said following a visit to NATO headquarters in Brussels on Thursday. “We would begin work directly after the election.” A year out from a general election, with his opposition Labour Party 19 percentage points ahead of the ruling Conservatives in the polls, Healey is on a mission to make it clear that a Labour government will want the United Kingdom back at the table when it comes to EU defense cooperation. “If we win the election … we must rebuild relationships with key allies and with the European Union,” Healey said. “Relationships that were badly damaged, sometimes deliberately so, during the Brexit process.” That’s a dramatic shift from the Conservatives. A defense and security treaty that would have formalized U.K.–EU cooperation was included in the political declaration that set out the terms of a post-Brexit relationship, but ex-Prime Minister Boris Johnson killed that offer. There are still areas of cooperation. The U.K. is part of a defense project under the EU’s sector coordination group — known as the Permanent Structured Cooperation (PESCO) — on military mobility. But Healey says a Labour government would look to expand that to include cooperation on logistics projects and cyber-security along with a broader strategic dialogue. “We in the U.K. have particular expertise in military and security intelligence,” he said. EU-led peacekeeping missions in the Balkans and off the coast of Somalia offer further obvious areas of cooperation. “I know from the EU that they would welcome U.K. support in those sorts of areas,” Healey said…

Reversing Brexit: How Labour plans to bring the UK back in line with the EUSir Keir Starmer wants to forge closer ties with Europe if his party wins the election – but exactly how is he plotting to do so? Back in 2019, Sir Keir Starmer and other Labour heavyweights including David Lammy, the shadow foreign secretary in line to oversee the next generation of Brexit talks, called for a second referendum on the UK’s EU membership. Had they been successful, they would have urged Labour to back Remain. But the fact remains that the EU’s hard-nosed negotiators won’t be prepared to cut Sir Keir any slack, just because they are dealing with Labour and not the Tories. The European Commission has its own interests, its own red lines and its own goals and will demand London aligns with EU rules as the price for the agreement. It will seek to limit divergence from EU rules because the UK is a large and close market to it – and is now an economic competitor as well. It will insist that Labour cannot “cherry-pick” the benefits of EU membership without the obligations and will argue that the bloc’s bigger size and huge market gives it the right to dictate the terms of any new Brexit deal. Any Labour ask will also be met with demands from Brussels for access to British fishing waters and a ‘lite’ freedom of movement deal to boost youth mobility and increase European students’ access to UK universities. Labour has ruled out a return to the EU’s single market and customs union, as well as the youth mobility deal called for by Brussels. However, as in any negotiation, those red lines will come under pressure.

Not The BCFM Politics Show comes this week from The Kuumba Centre Cafe after being CANCELLED by Trans-rights activists from The Peoples Republic of Stokes Croft (PRSC) arts centre – Kuumba Community Centre: Council trying to shut them down. Community stand off with council over eviction threat of beloved Kuumba Centre in St Paul’s The space next to Stokes Croft has served the local community for decades but activists are now fighting to secure its long-term future. “When I moved to Bristol to be with my family, this was the first place I went to,” recalls Jenny*, a member of the St Paul’s community in her early 20’s. “I was welcomed by people of my age, my parents’ age, and my grandparents’ age – it’s like I could meet anyone here.” She is chatting to the Cable at the locked Kuumba Centre on Hepburn Road, next to Stokes Croft, where a multi-ethnic group of people is occupying the well-known space 24 hours a day. It has served the local community for decades, but is now under the threat of eviction by Bristol City Council. Our visit takes place on Thursday 28 September – the date by which the council had ordered Kuumba’s management board to vacate the building. At a crowded meeting the night before, supporters voted to keep the current board – who have been in charge for 12 years – and agreed that, if necessary, individuals would occupy the building and physically block the bailiffs. During the meeting, plans were made over bowls of ital soup to sleep in the space and maintain occupation to prevent eviction. As yet, no bailiffs had arrived, and the group – some of whom request anonymity and to be called ‘Friends of Kuumba’ – remain cautious but hopeful. Since then, an uneasy silence has fallen. ‘We want to collaborate’ “There’s a reason so many different shades of people come [here], under a sense of common unity to be in the space, to utilise the space, and to activate in this space,” says another local activist. “There are very few places like that, especially with a board as unique as it is.” Issues at Kuumba arose after a council health and safety inspection in early 2022. Despite minor aesthetic defects, the space was deemed structurally sound. In October 2022 though, the board received the first of three letters from the council, citing a lease breach. Despite addressing concerns, a letter in November deemed the Kuumba Project – which has been in charge since the charity previously managing the premises collapsed in 2010 – squatters and trespassers. The centre’s premises licence was revoked, impacting income from late-night events, a major source of funds – and the Kuumba Project was initially asked to hand back the building by 23 May 2023. Sister Nwani, chair of the current board, who has been involved at Kuumba for many years, claims the council came “with a plan, an intention to actually destroy [the history of the space]”. But she tells the Cable she’s still hoping for a positive resolution. “I want the council as a whole… the whole cabinet to review this,” she says. “We want to collaborate with you. We don’t want your sympathy. We want your cooperation, we want to get back on track – end of story.” Originally named Inkworks, Kuumba was transferred to the Inkworks Management Committee in 1974 as a community asset. It was agreed that volunteer builders would convert an abandoned ink factory into a community centre, run by and for the St Paul’s community. It would provide essential social services, skills workshops and a day nursery. Sister Nwani says that the Rasta community in the area have played a leading role in the centre since its formation. It has since served as a nursery, a late-night music venue, a space for religious gatherings, and a venue for cultural and political events. Its units now house a record label, café, library, and historical archive documenting Bristol’s struggle for Black liberation. During our visit, stories about the space were exchanged, reminiscing about past events with reggae stars, a Polish neighbour who found solace in the Rastas’ drumming during his terminal illness, the women’s groups that cooked, crafted, and raised children together in the space. Both occupiers and the Cable were shown the drums and rhythms used by Rastas for worship and protest, exemplifying the exchange of cultures that takes place here.

Julian Assange is finally free and back in Australia! His lawyer Jen Robinson at the press conference in Australia – the plea bargain Julian had to agree to. Julian Assange wakes in Australia as a free man, after more than a decade of jail cells and embassy walls Julian Assange is standing on Australian soil, having spent his first night in his home country in nearly 15 years. His lawyer Jen Robinson, filled with emotion as she addressed a rowdy media pack in Canberra, said Assange’s return home had “saved his life”. Stella Assange, human rights activist, Julian’s wife, and the mother of their two children, said she could not describe the moment when he rushed from the plane, across the tarmac, and into her arms. “I was overcome by emotion when I first heard there were crowds cheering, that I didn’t even know were there,” Ms Assange said, recounting their reunion. “We embraced, and I think you’ve seen the pictures. I don’t want to express in words what is obvious from the image.” On social media, she offered one simple word next to the photo of their embrace: “home”.

EXCLUSIVE Kristinn Harfnsson, present editor of Wikileaks, on Julian being free and what Wikileaks is doing now. Invisible digital fingerprint now on leaks. May be traced. !HOW IT HAPPENED! Assange plea came after warning that U.S. would lose extradition fight …….Then, in March, a British court ruled that it was preparing to send Assange to the United States — if the Americans affirmed he was entitled to the same free-speech protections as a U.S. citizen. Otherwise, the judges said, Assange could argue he was being discriminated against based on his Australian nationality. The U.S. prosecutors said they could not and would not make that commitment. In a 2020 civil case, the Supreme Court said that “foreign organizations operating abroad have no First Amendment rights.” Rulings from the high court in other cases have held that foreign nationals do not have the same free-speech rights as U.S. citizens. That dilemma spurred the April 4 warning that without an immediate deal, the extradition effort might collapse. Without the First Amendment assurance, one trial attorney said in an email, the British lawyers representing the U.S. government concluded they would run into “an ethical obligation to drop the case” because of “their duty of candor” — they could no longer argue for extradition when a condition required by the court had not been met. The U.S. trial lawyers on April 4 pleaded with their superiors to get Deputy Attorney General Lisa Monaco to approve the deal, multiple people said. If they missed the deadline in 12 days, one attorney told leaders in the counterintelligence and export control section of the department by email, they would “face a situation where we lose our leverage and the UK potentially abandons us.” Frustrated by the delays and disagreements, the entire team from Virginia disengaged from the case, a highly unusual move. Attorneys from the Justice Department’s National Security Division picked up the negotiations with Assange’s lawyers. To meet the April 16 deadline, U.S. Embassy officials sent a letter to the British court promising Assange could “raise and seek to rely on” the First Amendment at trial but saying “a decision as to the applicability of the First Amendment is exclusively within the purview of the U.S. Courts.” The British judges were unimpressed and, in May, let Assange pursue his appeal. For the Justice Department’s British representatives, it was game over. “They asked for an assurance the United States government couldn’t give,” said Nick Vamos, former head of extradition for the Crown Prosecution Service. “It could have gotten really messy.”…

EXCLUSIVE Craig Murray, ex-ambassador, journalist, standing in Blackburn for The Workers Party of George Galloway. Ukraine war and Assange being free.  What Really Happens in Blackburn – When I stood in Blackburn against foreign secretary Jack Straw in 2005 as an anti-Iraq war candidate, Jack Straw’s campaign manager was Ibrahim Master. He is now the campaign manager of “Independent” candidate, vote-splitter Adnan Hussain. This is him on the right campaigning with Adnan. When I attended a meeting with Adnan until 2.30am three nights ago to try to resolve the vote split that could let Labour back in, Ibrahim Master was in the meeting as Adnan’s second, and did much of the talking. Jack Straw was the Foreign Secretary personally responsible for the war in Iraq and the death of a million Iraqis, with the blatant lies about Iraqi WMD which he personally told as Foreign Secretary. Yet in 2005 Master openly campaigned for Straw on the basis that the war in Iraq was not important in Blackburn. Master drew great criticism for this pro-Straw stance from the wider Muslim community outside Blackburn, but the Muslim community here was under such tight control they voted overwhelmingly for Straw. Now consider this. When my candidacy for Blackburn was announced in March, Jack Straw issued an attack on me on 3 April, stating that I had “no cause” to stand in Blackburn.

A timeline of the legal case involving WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange The drawn-out legal case involving WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange has concluded with his guilty plea to obtaining and publishing U.S. military secrets. In a deal with the U.S. Justice Department, Assange was sentenced Wednesday to the five years he’d already served in a British prison while fighting extradition. It allows him to walk free and resolves the case that centred on the publication of a trove of classified documents. Here is a look at key events in the case: — 2006: Assange founded WikiLeaks in Australia. The group begins publishing sensitive or classified documents. — 2010: In a series of posts, WikiLeaks releases almost half a million documents relating to the U.S. wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. — August 2010: Swedish prosecutors issue an arrest warrant for Assange based on one woman’s allegation of rape and another’s allegation of molestation. The warrant is withdrawn shortly afterward, with prosecutors citing insufficient evidence for the rape allegation. Assange denies the allegations. — September 2010: Sweden’s director of prosecutions reopens the rape investigation. Assange leaves Sweden for Britain. — November 2010: Swedish police issue an international arrest warrant for Assange. — December 2010: Assange surrenders to police in London and is detained pending an extradition hearing. The High Court grants Assange bail. — February 2011: A district court in Britain rules Assange should be extradited to Sweden. — June 2012: Assange enters the Ecuadorian Embassy in London, seeking asylum, after his bids to appeal the extradition ruling fail. Police set up an around-the-clock guard to arrest him if he steps outside. — August 2012: Ecuador grants him political asylum. — July 2014: A judge in Sweden upholds the arrest warrant against him that alleges sexual offenses against two women. — March 2015: Swedish prosecutors ask to question Assange at the Ecuadorian Embassy. — August 2015: Swedish prosecutors drop investigations into some allegations against Assange because of the statute of limitations; an investigation into a rape allegation remains active. — October 2015: Metropolitan Police end their 24-hour guard outside the Ecuadorian Embassy but say they’ll arrest Assange if he leaves, ending a three-year police operation estimated to have cost millions. — February 2016: Assange claims “total vindication” as the U.N. Working Group on Arbitrary Detention finds that he has been unlawfully detained and recommends he be immediately freed and given compensation. Britain calls the finding “frankly ridiculous.” — September 2018: Ecuador’s president says his country and Britain are working on a legal solution to allow Assange to leave the embassy. — October 2018: Assange seeks a court injunction pressing Ecuador to provide him basic rights he said the country agreed to when it first granted him asylum. — November 2018: A U.S. court filing that appears to inadvertently reveal the existence of a sealed criminal case against Assange is discovered by a researcher. No details are confirmed. — April 2019: Ecuadorian President Lenin Moreno blames WikiLeaks for recent corruption allegations; Ecuador’s government revokes Assange’s asylum status. London police haul Assange out of the Ecuadorian Embassy and arrest him for breaching bail conditions in 2012, as well as on behalf of U.S. authorities. — May 2019: Assange is sentenced to 50 weeks in prison for jumping bail in 2012. — May 2019: The U.S. government indicts Assange on 18 charges over WikiLeaks’ publication of classified documents. Prosecutors say he conspired with U.S. Army intelligence analyst Chelsea Manning to hack into a Pentagon computer and release secret diplomatic cables and military files on the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. — November 2019: Swedish prosecutor drops rape investigation. — May 2020: An extradition hearing for Assange is delayed during the COVID-19 pandemic. — June 2020: The U.S. files a new indictment against Assange that prosecutors say underscores Assange’s efforts to procure and release classified information. — January 2021: A British judge rules Assange cannot be extradited to the U.S. because he is likely to kill himself if held under harsh U.S. prison conditions. — July 2021: The High Court grants the U.S. government permission to appeal the lower court’s ruling blocking Assange’s extradition. — December 2021: The High Court rules that U.S. assurances about Assange’s detention are enough to guarantee he would be treated humanely. — March 2022: Britain’s Supreme Court refuses to grant Assange permission to appeal against his extradition. — June 2022: Britain’s government orders the extradition of Assange to the United States. Assange appeals. — May 2023: Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese says Assange should be released and “nothing is served” by his ongoing incarceration. — June 2023: A High Court judge rules Assange cannot appeal his extradition. — Feb. 20, 2024: Assange’s lawyers launch a final legal bid to stop his extradition at the High Court. — March 26, 2024: Two High Court judges in London give U.S. authorities three more weeks to submit further assurances, including a guarantee that Assange won’t get the death penalty, before deciding whether they will grant him a new appeal against his extradition. — May 20, 2024: The two High Court judges rule that Assange can mount a new appeal based on arguments about whether he will receive free-speech protections or be at a disadvantage because he is not a U.S. citizen. The date of the hearing has yet to be determined. — June 26, 2024: Assange pleads guilty to an Espionage Act charge of conspiring to unlawfully obtain and disseminate classified national defense information. The judge in the U.S. commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands sentences him to time served in the British prison and pronounces him a “free man.”

EXCLUSIVE: Wafa Aludaini, Palestinian journalist, gives an update on the terrible situation in Gaza. Drones.  Famine and the rising death toll in Gaza by Wafa Aludaini – Wafa_Gaza – Two Palestinian children died last week of starvation, dehydration and lack of medicine amid desperate conditions in the southern areas of the besieged Gaza Strip. The Ministry of Health announced the death of Abdulqader Sirhi, 13, and seven-month-old Fayiz Abu Ataya, from malnutrition and lack of food and medicine at Al-Aqsa Hospital in Deir Al-Balah. The ministry said that the number of famine-related deaths has risen to 37, with only those who reached the hospitals able to be counted. It added that many died in their homes and their deaths have not been registered, while others are fighting for their lives. Over 3,500 children, under the age of five, are facing an imminent risk of death due to shortages of food, nutritional supplements and vaccinations. Fayiz Abu Ataya’s father said: “My child was born at the beginning of the current sweeping pogrom, in our shelter school, and died in it. He needed a special kind of formula and food missing in Gaza.” The infant’s short life is a chronicle of the deprivation overwhelming aid-starved Gaza. In a statement, 70 international rights organisations – including the Geneva-based Euro-Med Human Rights Monitor, Geneva International Centre for Justice, and Brussels Court – called on all relevant authorities and international institutions to officially declare a famine in the Gaza Strip. The statement stressed that food insecurity is increasing across the tiny enclave because of Israel’s use of starvation as a weapon of war against the Palestinian people. The joint statement also warned: With the crossings closed and humanitarian aid being prevented from entering by Israel, the threat of famine and acute malnutrition has resurfaced and swiftly spread. “This affects the 2.3 million residents of the Gaza Strip, half of whom are children, and particularly the people in the northern Gaza Valley, where supplies have run out.” Before Israel unleashed its current carnage, the poverty and unemployment rates in Gaza had reached heights of 64 per cent and 45 per cent respectively, according to data from the World Bank and the Palestinian Central Bureau of Statistics (PCBS). Some 63 per cent of the people of the Strip were food insecure, while 80 per cent of Palestinians in the besieged enclave depended on international aid. Now, living under the genocidal war, things are aggravated. All families in the narrow enclave depend on foreign humanitarian aid, so their basic survival needs are affected by its cessation.

Naomi Wolf, Jewish author, relates verses from the Old Testament on the Jews and the ‘promised land’. These promises from God come with conditions such as mercy, kindness and justice . Patrizia Opulenza poem.  A Jewish woman, Dr. Naomi Wolf understands the concept of a chosen people. I share her words below. The ‘chosen people’ that Jews and the Christian Zionist churches have been sold is a easily disproven Biblical lie. Dr. Naomi Wolf: “Okay, so I was challenged below: “Read the Bible! God gave the land of Israel to the Jewish people.” So….I may get crucified for this but I have started to say it — most recently (terrified, trembling) to warm welcome in a synagogue in LA: Actually if you read Genesis Exodus and Deuteronomy in Hebrew — as I do — you see that God did not “give” Israel to the Jews/Israelites. We as Jews are raised with the creed that “God gave us the land of Israel” in Genesis — and that ethnically ‘we are the chosen people.” But actually — and I could not believe my eyes when I saw this, I checked my reading with major scholars and they confirmed it — actually God’s “covenant” in Genesis, Exodus and Deuteronomy with the Jewish people is NOT ABOUT AN ETHNICITY AND NOT ABOUT A CONTRACT. IT IS ABOUT A WAY OF BEHAVING. — Again and again in the “covenant” language He never says: “I will give you, ethnic Israelites, the land of Israel.” Rather He says something far more radical – far more subversive — far more Godlike in my view. He says: IF you visit those imprisoned…act mercifully to the widow and the orphan…welcome the stranger in your midst…tend the sick…do justice and love mercy ….and perform various other tasks…THEN YOU WILL BE MY PEOPLE AND THIS LAND WILL BE YOUR LAND. So “my people” is not ethnic — it is transactional. We are God’s people not by birth but by a way of behaving, that is ethical, kind and just. And we STOP being “God’s people” when we are not ethical, kind and just. And ANYONE who is ethical, kind and just is, according to God in Genesis, “God’s people.” And the “contract” to “give” us Israel is conditional — we can live in God’s land IF we are “God’s people” in this way — just, merciful, compassionate. AND — it never ever says, it is ONLY your land. Even when passages spell out geographical “boundaries” as if God does such a thing, it never says this is exclusively your land. It never says I will give this land JUST to you. Remember these were homeless nomads who had left slavery in Egypt and were wandering around in the desert; at most these passages say, settle here, but they do not say, settle here exclusively. Indeed again and again it talks about welcoming “zarim” — translated as “strangers” but can also be translated as “people/tribes who are not you” — in your midst. Blew my mind, hope it blows yours.”- Dr. Naomi Wolf

Annual #1984symposium: Two Orwell-loving tech writers by the name of Christian at George Orwell’s grave this week on his birthday giving their views on latest tech dangers. Mass surveillance by another name Amnesty International UK / Blogs Into the ether The Draft Investigatory Powers Bill, introduced by the UK government on Wednesday, threatens to institutionalise some highly intrusive surveillance powers, the likes of which the UK has never seen before. This flies in the face of the UK’s international human rights legal obligations to protect peoples’ rights to privacy, freedom of expression, and others. While we welcome the government’s commitment to proper public and parliamentary scrutiny of this legislation, which is something that has been missing with previous Bills, and the stated attempt to bring clarity to the whole area, we have serious reservations about the content of the draft IP Bill. The excessive procedural detail, apparent multiple complex layers of authorisation, and use of linguistic trompe l’oeils such as “equipment interference” (apparently nothing to do with hacking) and “bulk interception” (nothing like mass surveillance) in this Bill could easily distract readers of the legislation from appreciating the true nature of the powers contained therein. But make no mistake, currently this Bill is about surveillance and hacking on a mass scale. Blanket, indiscriminate interception and retention of people’s communications by any other name is still mass surveillance and it can never be proportionate. If adopted in its current form, the IP Bill will authorise the intelligence services to intercept, in bulk, all email, text and internet communications in and out of the UK; demand phone and internet companies hand over entire databases full of records about what their customers do online and on their phones; acquire databases of other personal information from other companies and government departments, and hack into whole networks and millions of smartphones consecutively, rummaging through individuals’ most private thoughts and records. Such mass surveillance activities would be triggered without there being any suspicion of wrongdoing on any particular person’s part, and would be authorised by a Minister. The role of “judicial commissioners” – proposed by the government as a means to introduce a safeguard into the process – is something we’ll want to look at further to ensure it doesn’t amount to little more than a rubber stamp. It’s essential that, if established, this post will be tasked with challenging the merits of the Minister’s decision and examining the facts on which it was based. The Bill contains other concerning provisions as well, including powers for police and intelligence agencies to hack into the phones and computers of people in the UK without establishing any reasonable suspicion of wrongdoing, and to require telecommunications providers to retain records of every website visited by every person in Britain for up to one year.

Why 2024 Is More Like 1984 Than We Realise, Daily Express Fergus Kelly TIMELESS WARNING: Author George Orwell, main. Inset right, his iconic novel Daily Express Monday 24th June 2024 – not published online – Three-quarters of a century after publication of his most famous novel, George Orwell’s bleak dystopian vision remains a clarion call for everything we must strive to avoid … even as its reality inches ever closer, warns FERGUS KELLY WHEN I first read George Orwell’s 1984 in the Seventies, I thought it could never happen here. That’s despite the fact it was the height of the Cold War at the time. And that the West’s adversary in that conflict, the Soviet Union, epitomised the grim, one-party tyranny Orwell had depicted so chillingly in his most famous novel. Yet now, 75 years after its first publication, the chilling concepts introduced in 1984 – of Newspeak and doublethink, unperson and telescreen, the Two-Minutes Hate and the Party’s insistence that 2+2=5- appear only too prescient. The Britain of the 1970s in which I grew up had plenty of woes. When rubbish piled up and the bodies went unburied during the so-called winter of discontent, it might even have resembled the drabness and neglect of the Britain renamed Airstrip One in 1984. But the prospect of us becoming a Big Brother state back then seemed no more likely to my mid-teen self than the Anarchy in the UK that the Sex Pistols were predicting would prevail at around the same time. Or as remote as the dystopia of Diamond Dogs, the album David Bowie partly based on Orwell’s classic (which itself marks a 50th anniversary this year). Today, mercifully, it would still be absurd to suggest we are prey to the murderous extremes of Soviet -style communism, in which countless people perished in secret police cells or labour camps, and valiant dissidents were hurled into psychiatric hospitals and damned as mentally ill. But in many other significant ways, from facial recognition cameras to algorithms predicting crimes before they happen, we have become worryingly more like the sort of society Orwell portrayed in 1984. Take, for instance, the ever shifting speech codes which are designed not just to make people hesitate before talking out on any subject, but succeed in narrowing the parameters of debate on most given subjects to the point of silencing them. Such codes only ever move in one censorious direction – just as in Orwell’s 1984, the official language of Newspeak simplified grammar and limited vocabulary precisely to render critical thinking ever less likely. Censorship of this kind is straight from the totalitarian script adopted by the Soviet Union, China, and every other communist state of the past century, as well as the fascist regimes that represented the other side of the same coin. The exiled Chinese artist and dissident Ai Weiwei today regards political censorship in the West as ever more similar to that of his former homeland, so that, “Society becomes so timid, to really avoid any kind of questioning or argument”. Then there is the ruling party’s assertion in 1984 that, to subordinate objective truths to its political will, two plus two must equal five. Orwell first tackled such reality-denying by Nazi Germany during the Second World War. He wrote: “Nazi theory, indeed, specifically denies that such a thing as ‘the truth’ exists. The implied objective of this line of thought is a nightmare world in which the Leader, or some ruling clique, controls not only the future, but the past. If the Leader says of such and such an event, ‘It never happened’ – well, it never happened. If he says that ‘two and two are five’ – well, two and two are five.” In his ninth novel, published on June 8 1949, the final book completed in his lifetime, this process of indoctrination is called doublethink. But in the West today we see numerous real-life examples of the same phenomenon. At the more harmless – and gormless – end of the scale, it’s evident in the Duke of Sussex’s claim in his memoir, Spare, when he writes: “There’s just as much truth in what I remember and how I remember it as there is in so-called objective facts.” It becomes more serious on subjects like climate change. Here, proponents of the theory of “climate extinction”, insist that “the science” is settled, when the most cursory reading of the many sources of research into the subject confirm it is anything but. But, as far as what passes for a guiding philosophy for the likes of Extinction Rebellion and Just Stop Oil is concerned, there is not just no debate; anyone with the temerity to question the theory is morally wrong, smeared as a “denier” – a grotesque perversion of a term only previously used to describe those who claimed the Holocaust never took place. We see it too in the absurd contortions which the majority of our political leaders performed while trying to placate the trans ideology. Biological fact and rational thought were suspended. We had politicians actually insisting some women could have a penis, claims some Labour MPs still seem strangely reluctant to backtrack over. Author and commentator Douglas Murray says: “All the time now there are things which we’re told to believe that nobody believed yesterday. Biological reality is denied in order to remain in what passes for polite society.” While the courageous JK Rowling, who has been vilified and physically threatened over her pro-woman campaigning, wrote this weekend of the battle for “vulnerable women and girls, for single-sex spaces, for the right to speak about our own bodies as we please, and to retain the ability to call a man as a man, without which no analysis or activism around sex-based issues and inequalities is possible”. How frightening that, for many, these issues are still not nailed down by the likeliest next government. We might not yet have reached the point, as in 1984, when everyone must have a telescreen in their home – the two-way video device that allowed the Party to indoctrinate and also put them under round-the-clock surveillance. Yet who can deny most of us are already chained to our smart-phones which, while offering previously undreamt of opportunities for learning and entertainment, through their software monitor our every move and second-guess our thoughts and desires? Perhaps the most insidious aspect of the new online world is social media. For the first time in history, it has enabled thousands, millions even, to directly vilify and persecute at the same time individuals for their beliefs. At worst, these virtual lynch mobs demand either a criminal sanction or at the very least a loss of livelihood for their victims. And they resemble nothing so much as the Two Minutes Hate that Orwell described in 1984, when Party members were compelled to vent their hatred for enemies, depicted in specifically prepared footage at mass screenings. The actual year of 1984 came and went without Orwell’s nightmarish vision becoming reality, at least here. Only a few years after that same year, that spectre appeared to recede with the fall of the Berlin Wall and the collapse of the Soviet Union. But three-quarters of a century since its publication, it is the West – home of the supposed victors against that dismal ideology – that is in danger of forgetting his novel’s warnings.

Labour Party secret inheritance tax hike Labour inheritance tax – ELECTION – Labour busted, the sneaky secret plans they are denying. 6 party MPs – including Keir Starmer have a plan to raise £60 billion. ▪️INCREASING inheritance tax ▪️INCREASING capital gains tax ▪️’jackpot’ levy on wealth ▪️council tax reforms could double bills – Labour’s Secret Plan To Smash The Middle Class By Ensuring Home Owners Can’t Pass On Their House To Their Children Labour’s secret tax plans – explained Mike Warburton 19 June 2024 By July 5, we are very likely to have a Labour government with a working majority, if not a landslide victory – and as Rishi Sunak pointed out repeatedly in last night’s debate, the threat of higher taxes is looming large. I am going to make a few suggestions about how we might prepare. The problem facing the new chancellor has been illustrated by a report from the Institute for Fiscal Studies (IFS). Simply stated, the economic situation is very tight. Following the Covid pandemic and the war in Ukraine, Britain’s debt to GDP (gross domestic product) ratio has risen to almost 100pc. Taxes relative to GDP are heading for a post Second World War record, and pressure is rising for higher public spending on virtually all departments including, health, welfare and defence. Labour has said it will keep to the existing rules to reduce the debt-to-GDP ratio in five years with capped annual borrowing at 3pc of GDP. Something has to give. I have seen little to suggest that Labour is prepared to make cuts in spending departments, so even higher taxation seems inevitable. Labour wants to help “working people” – so where will the additional revenue come from? As was reported last night, senior Labour figures seem to, at the very least, have sympathy with radical plans to raise taxes. So, what can be done now to prepare? VAT on private school fees There are some tax changes that have already been announced, such as removing the VAT-free status on private school fees, and the reintroduction of the pension lifetime allowance charge. However, in neither case is it clear that these will raise significant amounts of tax, and the changes may even result in a net cost to the new government. I wrote about school fees recently with a suggestion that, although there are risks, it could make sense to pay some fees in advance. The question is how many parents will decide that private education is no longer affordable and attempt to move their children into the state system, thereby placing an additional cost on the education budget. Taxing pensioners Reintroduction of the pension lifetime allowance charge would raise revenue, but it would be very difficult to introduce the appropriate legislation. I wrote about this in January with a suggestion that those with larger pension funds should consider crystallising some or all of their uncrystallised funds ahead of the election. Rachel Reeves, the shadow chancellor, has appointed a team of advisors to help her identify areas where more tax could be squeezed from us, as explained recently by Brian Monteith. The team includes Sir Edward Troup, formally executive chairman of HM Revenue and Customs, who when referring to “codger” pensioners, claimed that many have had it too good and should pay more tax.

The rise of inheritance tax – I think Labour plans to raise even more from inheritance tax (IHT), despite receipts already being at record levels. In particular, we should expect greater scrutiny by HMRC of deceased estates. Lifetime transfers are a possible way forward, but I would urge caution not to rush into that without some careful consideration. I may be wrong, but I do not expect the removal of IHT exemptions on businesses, including farms. Farmers have been enduring very hard times financially and I think Labour understands that. What would not surprise me, however, is the removal of IHT relief on let farmland. Many believe that the relief has had the effect of pushing up prices of land to the disadvantage of working farmers. I also think the panel will recommend that pension funds should be treated as part of the estate for IHT by removing the protection introduced by George Osborne. Tax for pension savers Tax relief on pension contributions may be a target with some suggesting that relief on contributions could be limited at 30pc. It may be wise to make any planned contributions before the election accordingly. There must also be a risk that the 25pc tax free lump sum from pension schemes could be targeted by Labour. Described by Nigel Lawson in his 1985 Budget as the “anomalous but much-loved tax-free lump sum”, rumours of its demise have so far been wide of the mark. Nevertheless, I would not be surprised if Labour views it as too tempting a target to ignore, possibly capping the amount that can be taken. Depending on your circumstances you could consider taking a lump sum early, but there are complications involved and it would be appropriate to take advice before doing so. Isa contributions I am not expecting restrictions on Isa contributions, but if you have not yet used up your allowance for this year, it would make sense to contribute now if you can afford it so that more income and gains are sheltered. Changes for non-doms Labour claims that its plans are fully costed, but I am losing count of the number of times it’s claimed that any funding required will come from the removal of the remaining tax breaks for non-doms. I also have serious reservations about the amount that this would raise. This is because it is impossible to predict how many will depart the UK and leave the Treasury worse off. The last time Labour changed the tax position on non-doms was in 2008 to fund the introduction of the inheritance nil-rate band transfers between married couples. Alistair Darling and Ed Balls estimated that they would raise £500m a year from the change. It was revealed two years later that it had raised less than half that amount, at just £226m. Tax for workers Under the current rules, you do not pay National Insurance contributions (NICs) if you continue working after reaching state pension retirement age. Edward Troup has already set his sights on this as an easy win. Alistair Darling introduced the 50pc top rate of income tax just ahead of the 2010 election as a trap for the Conservatives to walk into. When the coalition government duly reduced the rate to 45pc in 2012, Rachel Reeves said in the parliamentary debate: “The tax cut for millionaires is worth more than the money that most of our constituents take home in a year. The hon. Member for Carmarthen East and Dinefwr spoke about a tax cut for the mega-rich that leaves a bad taste in the mouth”. Ms Reeves has said that Labour will not raise income tax and NIC rates. However, I would not rule out an increase in the top rate to 50pc, which could be a reason for taking bonuses early. Capital gains tax changes When the Prime Minister disclosed his personal tax affairs, there was the inevitable outcry that by generating most of his income from capital gains on share sales he paid a 20pc rate, half the higher rate of income tax. There are some very sound reasons why the CGT rate should be less than the income tax rate, but I would not be surprised if this came up for discussion among the Labour advisory team. The outlook for council tax Councils up and down the country are struggling financially. Many voices in Labour have spoken in favour of increasing the tax take from land, so council tax could be seen as a logical source of additional revenue. The last time properties were revalued was in 1991 (2003 in Wales), but it was a mammoth exercise and rather unscientific. Individual properties were not visited. Instead, an army of valuers drove around in pairs at slow speed in second gear and noted down amounts without even stopping the car. These so-called “second gear valuations” were never accurate. More likely, I suspect a revaluation would be the introduction of a higher council tax band for larger properties, as applies in Wales. To misquote the song, things are not going to get better any time soon.

Housing Crisis: ‘We need one new house to cope with 750,000 annual migrants!’ Nigel Farage, Reform Party, giving a speech in Blackpool – Brexit, immigration. Nigel Farage issues a message to the people of Blackpool about why resort voters should back him Blackpool should “join the revolt” for change, Reform UK leader Nigel Farage said during his latest visit to the resort. Mr Farage was in town to deliver a speech tonight at the resort’s Imperial Hotel in a sold-out event, having already unveiled a campaign poster in the town. Prior to addressing the party faithful in the grand hotel, the politician was asked what his party could do for Blackpool, a town recognised as one of the most deprived in the country. Mr Farage said people in Blackpool should “join the revolt” because Britain was broken and only Reform could fix it, insisting the party was now the only opposition to a resurgent Labour party. The politician, 60, who attracts both unwavering support as well as outright hostility, told the Gazette: “How can we help Blackpool? Well, we can do one big thing – our main manifesto pledge is to raise the level at which people start paying tax at £20,000 year. “Why? Number one, the lowest earners would keep more of the money. “But the key thing, those on benefits – if they go to do a job and work more than 16 houes a wek, they start to lose their benefits. “They’re better off staying on benefits than going back to work. That is crackers. “If we bring that £20,000 in, they can stay at work, which will help them economically and also psychologically as well, in terms of their feelings of value and benefit to society. “The second thing we can do, for a place like Blackpool, is help small businesses because everything Labour and the Tories do is about the giant multinationals. “What about local self employed people, family-run businesses? They’ve been given a terrible time. Corporation Tax on their companies, up 30 per cent last year. Rules have come in that make it so hard for self employed people who work for big contractors.” Can Reform win resort’s two seats? Mr Farage said: “Huge numbers here voted for me when I led UKIP, huge numbers voted for Brexit and the modern day Labour party doesn’t represent those kind of values. “Keir Starmer voted for a second referendum, doesn’t really believe in it. “There’s always been that Labour vote, particulat in Lancashire that was very patriotic and Labour is now a London-based metropolitan party, run from North London. “We want to fulfil Brexit and the biggest thing was immigration.

Armageddon warning as Galloway claims PM Starmer will drag UK into WW3 ‘within six months’ George Galloway has made little secret of his distaste for both Sir Keir and Labour, the party for which he was first elected as an MP.  George Galloway predicts a war if Keir Starmer is elected as PM George Galloway, Workers Party, giving a speech – Starmageddon is coming. Britain will be dragged into a full-scale war with Russia “within six months” if Labour leader Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer becomes Prime Minister, George Galloway has controversially claimed. The Workers Party of Great Britain leader, who is standing in the Rochdale seat he won in a by-election earlier this year, made his controversial remark during the launch of his party’s manifesto yesterday. Mr Galloway, who once again dismissed Sir Keir and Tory Prime Minister Rishi Sunak as “two cheeks of the same backside”, told reporters: “We are potentially headed to Armageddon. “And if we don’t get out of this death spiral, then none of this will be worth arguing over at all.” He added: “I want to make a prediction. If Keir Starmer becomes the Prime Minister, within six months, Britain will be a war. “I don’t mean a proxy war. I don’t mean Special Forces dressed up as Arabs or Russians or Ukrainians. “I mean, an actual war, with British forces deployed within six months of Keir Starmer becoming Prime Minister. “And then it’s game on, I’m afraid to say. Mr Galloway has made little secret of his opposition to Britain’s support of Ukraine in its fight against Russia, recently claiming Vladimir Putin’s interview with Tucker Carlson would show people the Russian president is “not Vlad the Mad or Bad and that they’ve been lied to about him”. The manifesto itself commits to “a referendum on membership of NATO with a view to a national debate on all our collective security arrangements”. It adds: “Our own position is clear – under current circumstances, we will continue to campaign for Britain to leave NATO as a clear and present danger to the security of the British population and seek new collective security arrangements centred on the protection of peoples and not of states or industries.” It also states: “Our position on Ukraine centres on a condemnation of the expansionary provocation of NATO in alliance with another ethno-nationalist government that throws its own people into a perpetual meat grinder.

Workers Party candidate Heiko Khoo on why he’s standing for the Workers Party in Putney – The last five years saw the biggest transfer of wealth, from the poor to the rich, in history. Hundreds of millions around the world were driven into poverty and hunger, exacerbating conflicts and accelerating waves of global migration. In Britain, the price of energy, food, rent, mortgage repayments and other basics of life rose dramatically, forcing millions into penury. I joined the Labour Party in 1980 and supported Jeremy Corbyn from 2015 onwards. As Labour became the biggest party in Europe, Corbyn’s leadership was sabotaged. The Israel lobby smeared him with false allegations of anti-Semitism, lies that were promoted by Keir Starmer. Starmer backs Israel’s genocide and said that Israel has the right to cut off power and water to Gaza, which is a war crime. British warplanes conduct reconnaissance missions for Israel and our weapons have rained down on women and children. I stand with the people of Palestine in their liberation struggle against Israeli occupation and apartheid. The Labour Party no longer represents the working class. Tory MPs are welcomed with open arms while long standing party members are smeared, slandered, silenced or expelled. We in the Workers’ Party are building a mass socialist party to replace the Labour Party. Under Covid, as Dominic Cummings explained to a House of Commons investigative committee, an international pandemic “network of Bill Gates-type people” pressured national governments to act as if we were at war, imposing dictatorial powers, repressing free speech and free movement, and curtailing our democratic right to protest. While Downing Street held parties, people were brutally arrested for petty breaches of lockdown regulations. Big Tech and Big Pharma assumed command over decision-making and accumulated trillions, while our children were deprived of education, patients were denied essential treatment and the elderly died alone, parting from their families on Zoom. In fact the measures taken – social distancing, masks, lockdowns, the closure of work, leisure and entertainment etc. – were based on flimsy scientific evidence. Science that was manipulated to serve malign interests.

Keir Starmer on Port Talbot steel works closure so we have to buy arms from the USA. Tata Steel to press on with Port Talbot job cuts despite Labour call for talks In April, Tata Steel confirmed it would close its blast furnaces in Port Talbot after rejecting a last-minute union plea to change its plans. A Welsh Conservative spokesperson said: “We are committed to ensuring steelmaking stays at Port Talbot. “The UK Government took bold action to invest £500million to support Tata to transition to electric arc furnaces, with an extra £80million to help workers to retrain. “Labour has no plan on how to keep steelmaking in Wales. In fact, they’ve been doing the opposite. Opting to go for cheap, low quality, imported coal, instead of supporting Welsh jobs at the Ffos-y-Fran mine which supplied ideal coal to Tata. “We are investing millions into the south-west Wales economy to boost high skilled jobs with the Celtic Freeport and the Swansea Bay City Deal, which helps businesses to grow and create jobs.” Luke Fletcher MS, Plaid Cymru’s economy and energy spokesperson, said: “Tata has made clear that whatever happens in the General Election it is determined to continue with the closure of the furnace at Port Talbot. “At this point, if we are serious about saving the jobs at Port Talbot and secure the blast furnaces, there is now only one option. Nationalisation. “Labour have committed to £3billion for steel. A portion of that will be allocated for Port Talbot. If the money is there to give to Tata, then it’s there for us to take control of the future of our steel industry here in Wales. “If the polls are to be believed, it’s now on Labour to put its money where its mouth is and save our steel.”

Ken Loach on Keir Starmer – witch hunt against ‘anti-Semites’ in Labour Party. Ken Loach hits out at Starmer and questions Labour’s antisemitism stance British filmmaker Ken Loach has voiced strong criticism of Sir Keir Starmer and Labour’s handling of disputes, especially those related to allegations of antisemitism. A staunch supporter of Jeremy Corbyn, Loach rejoined the Labour Party in 2017 but faced expulsion in 2021 during the party’s antisemitism crackdown. He has consistently challenged such allegations, hinting at political motivations aimed at destabilising the leadership of the former Labour leader. Appearing on BBC Radio 4’s World At One programme to discuss his new film The Old Oak, Loach expressed his profound lack of confidence in Sir Keir, suggesting he often backtracks on his statements. He also claimed Jewish members of the Labour Party are “four times more likely to be expelled than non-Jewish members”. Asked about Labour’s position on migration, given his new film is a story of two traumatised communities thrown together when a group of Syrian refugees is housed in a neglected former mining village in the north east of England, he said: “I have no confidence in Sir Keir Starmer whatsoever. “Everything he says he rejects a few months later. I don’t believe a word the man says. And I don’t think people should either. “They moved so that they are one millimetre closer to the centre than the Tories. I have no trust in Starmer personally or the clique he represents.” On whether his criticism of Sir Keir stems from the fact that “in your own words, you said you were kicked out of the party”, the director and screenwriter, 87, replied: “It was like an abusive relationship, to be honest. “I mean, the Labour Party is … its whole processes of dealing with disagreements is very flawed. I mean, it’s something I think BBC News should examine more closely. “The fact that now, I think, Jewish members of the Labour Party are four times more likely to be expelled than non-Jewish members.” The interview with BBC presenter Sarah Montague then took a particularly heated turn when she told him the Campaign Against Antisemitism complained to the BBC about their involvement in one of his other films because of his “appalling” views on antisemitism. In response, Loach accused the public broadcaster of diverting serious conversations into “fraudulent campaigns” aimed at discrediting interviewees.

Pastor Dia Moodley, preacher for Spirit of Life Reformed Baptist Church, in Lockleaze, Bristol, on how the police handed his possessions to the University to throw away’ when he was arrested for preaching on abortion and Islam outside Bristol University. Street preacher arrested outside Bristol University after incident. Pastor Dia Moodley took his controversial sermons about abortion to the street outside Bristol UniversityA controversial street preacher has been arrested after an incident outside the University of Bristol. Pastor Dia Moodley, who has regularly preached on a step ladder in Broadmead for the past seven years, was detained by Avon and Somerset police after setting up placards and beginning to preach outside the university’s Beacon House. An altercation allegedly occurred between Pastor Moodley and a number of people outside the building, on the corner of Whiteladies Road and Queen’s Road, and police were called. Pastor Moodley has told Bristol Live that he was arrested for allegedly pushing a woman who was standing on one of his placards, which had been knocked to the ground, and said he was also assaulted in the melee. Pastor Moodley is the leader of the Spirit of Life Reformed Baptist Church in Lockleaze, and said he went near the university to preach his beliefs about abortion and to have discussions with students there. A spokesperson for Avon and Somerset police said they received several calls at around 2.20pm on Thursday, March 21, from people reporting a public order offence at Queen’s Road. “On arrival, several people told officers they felt harassed, alarmed and distressed by a man they said was shouting in the street,” the spokesperson added. “A woman in her 20s also reported that a man had pushed her. “A man in his 50s was arrested on suspicion of common assault and a public order offence and later released on bail pending further enquiries. An allegation that he was pushed off a stepladder has also been recorded by police as an assault. No-one has as yet been charged with any offences.

Some Anti-Abortion campaigns in the UK – Society for the Protection of Unborn Children (SPUC) – and – Right To Life CampaignLife Campaign: Pregnancy Matters, Life Matters – Hayley’s story: I had not long turned 16 when I had an abortion. It feels like a bad dream most days now, but it haunted and ate at me for years. When I was 15, I met Scott. He was the cool older guy with the nice-ish car, his own house, and a loud group of friends who all seemed to look up to him in some way – a bit of a ringleader. He already had two children from a previous relationship. He was too old for me at 20; I didn’t think so at the time, though. When I was invited to his house for a party by a friend and he looked my way, I was overwhelmed. I didn’t think anyone like him would ever look twice at me. I had very low self-worth and a deep need to feel like I belonged somewhere. When I met Scott’s children, I fell into the role of glorified babysitter very easily. I loved playing mum with them. I grew very close to them and them to me over the months we were together. Of course, it was all a fantasy. I was being blatantly used. Scott had countless other sexual partners and made me aware that if I didn’t do something for him, then they would. It was a very abusive relationship, but I didn’t know any different after my childhood. It felt like he was all I had. So, I went along with everything he asked of me, like an obedient puppy. I found out that I was pregnant when I had just turned 16. Of course, Scott didn’t want to hear about it. He demanded that I have an abortion. I spoke to my uncle; he called me many hurtful names and threw me out. I went to live with my biological father and his family, but my step mum was pregnant, and they didn’t have room for me to stay long-term. My dad tried to get me rented accommodation. I was a child. I was scared. In that moment, I felt more lost and alone than ever. Nobody wanted me around. I wanted Scott back. “I need him” was all I could think. I only felt seen and wanted when I was with him – which was crazy, I know. My uncle agreed for me to come back. This was a mistake, because Scott lived around the corner and, of course, the abuse started again. He would go between sweet nothings and trying to run me over with his car. I really wanted my baby, but in that moment, I felt like I needed him more. He kept telling me it was just cells, anyway; it wouldn’t feel anything or know anything about it. When the time was right, we could have more children. I booked the appointment. I was 12 weeks pregnant, maybe a few days before. Scott got me to borrow £10 from my uncle for fuel and he and his friend drove me to our nearest clinic about 40 miles away. He left me there and I went through it all alone. A counsellor had to see me. I told her that I couldn’t speak to her because, if I did, I would change my mind. She sent me back to the waiting room. I was given pessaries to put inside my vagina and then I had to wait. I cried the whole time. I just wanted someone to say, “STOP don’t do it.” But nobody did. I remember they came to take me in and lay me on the bed to be put to sleep. I was crying so hard. The nurse was stroking my hair and saying, “It will all be ok.” The last thing I said before I went to sleep was, “No, it won’t. Nothing will ever be ok again.”

UK University Tyranny 2: Isaac Rose, author of new book ‘The Rentier City: Manchester and the Making of the Neo-liberal Metropolis’, answering questions – how Purpose Built Student Accommodation (PBSA) is one of the most lucrative investments for private equity firms and vulture funds and they pack them in bypassing all normal planning regulations gaining annual returns on investment of 20%In cities across the world, gentrification and the housing crisis are facts of life. But how did we get to this point? And is there any way we can fight back? A good place to begin answering these questions is Manchester, England. Over the last thirty years, corporate developers, rentier capitalists and boosterist politicians have reshaped Manchester in their image, replacing its working-class communities, public spaces and affordable housing with skyscrapers, luxury developments and a private rental market that creates wealth for rentiers and impoverishes everybody else. The Rentier City traces this story, showing how it fits within the longer history of Manchester. In doing so unveils a larger story of the relationship between capital and our cities, between rentier and rentee, and gives us a blueprint of how fight back against rentier capitalism and take back control of the cities we live in.

Norman Finklestein on a solution to the problems in Israel/Palestine ….   Imagine what Israel did to the Palestinians when we couldn’t see their crimes on our phones. Israel, the ICC and the global structures of power | Norman Finkelstein | The Big Picture S4E12 We are living through a moment of social and political upheaval – one that has somehow aligned the Houthi rebels in Yemen, South Africa’s greatest legal minds and students across the wealthiest campuses in the world. They’re all fighting for Gaza, and against an increasingly isolated Israeli government and its Western backers. So are we witnessing a historic tipping point? Norman Finkelstein has documented the Israel-Palestine conflict for over 4 decades, with a particular focus on Israel’s actions in Gaza. As the son of Holocaust survivors, he became particularly critical of Israel’s use of history as a propaganda tool to shut down critique – something he documents in his book ‘The Holocaust Industry’. Since October 7, he’s been one of the most prolific voices speaking out – accusing Israel of carrying out a Genocide – and describing Gaza as a concentration camp. In this episode of The Big Picture podcast, we speak to him about the value of international law, the historic turning point in Palestinian advocacy and his view on Israel’s moral argument for its own existence.

The UK could be complicit in war crimes in Gaza and could face legal action if it does not do more to “restrain” Israel, Tory MP Crispin Blunt has warned. The International Centre of Justice for Palestinians (ICJP) – of which Mr Blunt is co-director – announced it has written a notice of intention to prosecute UK government officials for “aiding and abetting war crimes in Gaza”. The move comes in response to Israel’s warning for 1.2 million people living in the northern part of the Gaza Strip to immediately leave their homes and move south. Israel launches first ground missions in Gaza – Israel-Hamas war latest Mr Blunt told Sky News he is “not sure [his] colleagues have grasped the legal peril they are in” and “everyone must act to restrain people” if they know war crimes are going to happen. “If you know that a party is going to commit a war crime – and this forcible transfer of people is a precise breach of one of the statutes that governs international law and all states in this area – then you are making yourself complicit,” he said. “And as international law has developed in this area, the fact of being complicit makes you equally guilty to the party carrying out the crime.” ICJP co-Director Crispin Blunt speaks to BBC on complicity of UK politicians in War Crimes in Gaza Co-Director of the International Centre of Justice for Palestinians (ICJP) Crispin Blunt spoke to BBC News on the potential complicity of UK politicians in Israeli war crimes in the Gaza Strip. In a post on X, formerly Twitter, the MP for Reigate wrote: ‘It has been reported that an MP was arrested yesterday in connection with an allegation of rape. I am confirming that MP was me. The fact of the arrest requires a formal notification of the Speaker and then my Chief Whip. ‘I have now been interviewed twice in connection with this incident, the first time three weeks ago, when I initially reported my concern over extortion. ‘The second time was earlier this morning under caution following arrest. The arrest was unnecessary as I remain ready to co-operate fully with the investigation that I am confident will end without charge. ‘I do not intend to say anything further on this matter until the police have completed their inquiries.’

Serbian President, Alexsandar Vucic, on how the train has left the station for war. Serbian president predicts imminent World War III, urges global alert ALBAWABA – Aleksandar Vucic, the president of Serbia, has issued a warning, claiming that World War III is imminent and that it may break out in the next four months. He said this in an interview with the Swiss publication “Weltwoche.” Also ReadIsraeli Media: Netanyahu government prepares to declare defeat of Al-Qassam brigadesIsraeli Media: Netanyahu government prepares to declare defeat of Al-Qassam brigades According to a report by Sky News, Vucic has unique insights into the growing tensions between Moscow, Washington, and NATO because of his strong relationship with Russian President Vladimir Putin. Vucic underlined how crucial it is to preserve Serbia’s vital supply of commodities. He questioned the belief held by the West that Putin could be simply overthrown by depleting his resources in Ukraine. When assessing Putin’s motives and possible future actions, Vucic counseled Western leaders to proceed with the utmost care. In order to preserve strategic deterrence and the balance of power in the world, Russian President Putin has reaffirmed Russia’s commitment to developing its nuclear capabilities on land, at sea, and in the air. U.S. presidential candidate Robert Kennedy Jr. has asked the United States to start talks with Putin in order to stop a conflict from breaking out in response to Vucic’s words. According to Sky News, the continued rivalry between the United States and Russia raises concerns about who would start the next round of hostilities or manage to escape accountability for acts that have the potential to spark nuclear war, which would have a global effect.

Putin is a saviour sent by God – says Moscow hawk Karaganov – Putin is ‘a saviour sent by God to stop WW3’, says fan of nuclear war –  Vladimir Putin would like you to believe he’s a saviour sent by God to rescue humanity. That was the image projected by Professor Sergei Karaganov, a former advisor to President Putin, who spoke at the Kremlin-organised ‘Russian Davos’ on Friday. He’s hawkish, even next to Putin, having previously urged the president to launch tactical nuclear strikes against the West to warn them off supporting Ukraine. Karaganov echoed that again at the St Petersburg International Economic Forum on Friday, where he suggested holding a ‘nuclear pistol’ to the head of the West. But it was his description of Putin that was perhaps most revealing of the 71-year-old Russian president’s worldview. Addressing Putin onstage, Karaganov, 71, said: ‘I clearly remember 1998-99 when our country was on the edge… of falling apart. The situation was dire. ‘I remember me and my comrades fighting without any hope left. And at some point, God Almighty took pity on us [and Putin arrived]. ’Now Vladimir Vladimirovich [Putin] you have a difficult task. Not only to win but also to save the world which is sliding and being pushed into a World War.’ An accompanying propaganda video showed images of British soldiers fighting under the Union Jack, trunks overflowing with treasure and slaves in chains. It blamed ‘the colonial march of the West’ for the world’s ills and framed Russia as the only country in history capable of resisting it. The narrator said: ‘European civilisations plundered Africa and China, India, the Middle East and the Americas. ‘Ancient cultures were destroyed, indigenous peoples driven into reservations. Tens of millions of people were sold into slavery. ‘In the modern world, the colonial march of the West has not stopped. The plunder has taken an even more hypocritical form of dollar dependency. ‘Centuries of living at the expense of others has shaped the Western world into a coloniser’s psychology and mindset. ‘We made up the rules, [says the West], you must obey them. ‘But a new time has come, a time of justice, honesty, law and order. ‘Russia is a civilised state, the only one in the history of mankind that was able to resist Western colonisation. ‘For more than 1,000 years of history, Russia has repeatedly repelled invasion attempts. ‘Russia refused to fulfil someone’s invented rules to obediently play along with the coloniser.’ But there is a reason Russia is the largest country in the world, with its capital located in Europe despite 77% of its landmass sitting in Asia. Other European countries have lost most of their empires, but Russia hasn’t. Russia has invaded, conquered and colonised vast swathes of the world over the centuries, with many of those countries only gaining independence when the Soviet Union collapsed in the 1990s.

Stoltenberg, NATO Chief, Dutch PM Mark Rutte set to be NATO’s next chief after last rival pulls out Romania’s president has withdrawn from the race to become NATO’s next secretary general, leaving outgoing Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte all but certain to head the world’s biggest military organization from October. The office of President Klaus Iohannis said in a statement that Romania’s security council [which NATO control, ed.] has backed Rutte’s bid. It also said that Iohannis had informed NATO late last week that he intended to pull out. His withdrawal removes the last real hurdle Rutte might face. It should allow NATO to put on a show of unity and demonstrate solidarity with war-ravaged Ukraine when U.S. President Joe Biden and his counterparts meet in Washington on July 9-11 to mark NATO’s 75th birthday. Rutte’s appointment could be sealed by a meeting of NATO ambassadors in coming days, or by the leaders when they meet in Washington. He would officially start work on Oct. 1. NATO secretaries-general are responsible for chairing meetings and guiding sometimes delicate consultations among the 32 member countries to ensure that an organization that operates on consensus can continue to function. On Tuesday, Hungary lifted its veto on Rutte’s candidacy after the long-serving Dutch prime minister gave written guarantees that he would not force Budapest to take part in the military alliance’s new plans to provide support to Ukraine should he be appointed. NATO makes all of its decisions by consensus, giving any of the 32 member countries an effective veto, including on whether they should take part in any joint effort or operation. Turkey had also voiced opposition to Rutte’s bid but lifted its objections in April. Rutte has for months been the preferred candidate of the majority of NATO allies, including big members like the United States and Germany. In office for a decade, outgoing Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg has been a steady hand at NATO’s helm and has proved difficult to replace. Biden and the NATO leaders had been due to name a successor when they met in Lithuania in July 2023, but no consensus could be found about a replacement. At the White House on Monday, Biden joked that he would like the former Norwegian prime minister to stay longer, even though Stoltenberg has made it clear he will leave office this time after several extensions to his mandate. “I mean it sincerely, you’ve been great. I just wish you’d extend your term another 10 years,” Biden said. Iohannis is nearing the end of his second five-year term as Romania’s president and announced his intention to run in March. Romania, a NATO member since 2004, borders Ukraine and played an increasingly prominent role in the alliance throughout Russia’s full-scale invasion, including hosting a NATO meeting of foreign ministers in November 2022.

Disastrous replacement of Civil Defence Act (1948) – with Civil Contingencies Act (2004) leaving the population exposed in a nuclear war. The Cook Report: Dirty Bomb extract – Roger Cook acquiring Weapons Grade Plutonium and a SS-20 nuclear weapon on the 1993 Moscow black market. Civil defence planning today after replacement of Civil Defence Act 1948 – Civil Contingencies Act 2004 Civil Defence as we know it is now virtually unrecognisable in the 21st Century. As a result of the end of the Cold War, “war planning” has now stopped and the councils are no longer required to prepare for war. So does Civil Defence really exist today? The answer is to ask another question, What is Civil Defence?. According to the Cold war document “Civil Defence – Why do we need it”, Civil Defence is “to adapt ourselves to the reality that we at present must live with, and to prepare ourselves so that we could alleviate the suffering which war would cause if it came.” Military defence is concerned with stopping a threat that would require Civil Defence, however in nuclear war there is no military defence so Civil Defence is required. And this form of Civil Defence had a face – much of it secret, but things we now know a lot about, such as nuclear bunkers, food rationing, food depots, emergency communications networks etc. That was the Cold War and this is 2024. If we take an alternative view of Civil Defence then we could define it as “to plan for the situation after a terrible event and make sure civilian life can continue.” This would include the right to food, shelter, warmth, sanitation and importantly a democratic system of Government (as opposed to overthrow by military invasion!). That view opens up a whole new area which this site is dedicated too. Its why we discuss the National security strategy because this gives us a clear explanation of the main threats, and that primarily is terrorism. The new threat needing Civil Defence The main threat we face today is International Terrorism but with roots here in the UK. Its aim is to specifically target our way of life but generally in one specific area – i.e. a particular right (i.e. to live etc). The need therefore to plan for a complete break down in society (which would have followed a war) is therefore defunct. Equally the need for “hard” measures such as bunkers and depots is also no longer applicable. The face to Civil Defence are therefore “soft strategies” which relate to plans for how the emergency services should respond and deal with catastrophies when they happen. Regional planning plays a crucial part to make sure a co-ordinated response occurs. Civil Defence therefore no longer has any secrets. The old “spies for peace” won’t find much here. However the police and MI5 have radically altered the way they operate but in comparison with the Cold War threat – they could now be considered the Military defence – i.e. offensive response / proactive mechanisms to stop against an attack. Secrets relating to MI5/Police exist for our own good (rather than the survival of the select few) and this site does not seek to expose those. But … There are 2 (very small) war planning Civil Defence “hard” measures still in place. One is the Pindar nuclear bunker under Whitehall and the other is the National attack warning system – a BT system to get an attack warning message out to the public. The latter however is no longer considered core to the Governments warning systems and further reduces the “war related” measures still active. Pindar is a very active nuclear bunker under the MOD building which is still used for emergencies but is not specifically a civil defence bunker.

Miscarriage of justice? The USAF Office of Special Investigations (OSI) on Thursday posted a brief report on Facebook of the conviction earlier this month of former Technical Sergeant Brandon S Justice who was found guilty by a military judge of ‘multiple specifications of sexual assault’. He was charged under the US military’s Uniform Code of Military Justice (UCMJ) with abusive sexual contact, aggravated sexual contact with a child, sexual abuse of a child and viewing/possessing child pornography. Justice, who is understood to have rented property in Red Lodge before moving to base housing in Lords Walk, Eriswell, was sentenced ‘47 years confinement’, was reduced in rank to Airman Basic and given a dishonourable discharge. The OSI says his term of confinement is capped at 35 years in accordance with his pre-trial agreement. The report says the OSI’s Detachment 512, based at RAF Lakenheath and RAF Mildenhall, received a formal complaint against Justice in October 2015, alleging various crimes against both child and adult victims. After being questioned, Justice ‘made a number of incriminating statements to investigators’. The OSI obtained the legal authority to search Justice’s home to seize evidence, then questioned him further. As a result of his statements made in multiple interviews, and other evidence gathered, Justice was ordered into pre-trial confinement at RAF Lakenheath. Brig Gen Keith Givens, OSI Commander, told Detachment 512: “Excellent work putting this multi-child molester behind bars for a very long time. I know this was a complex case to prove, but you persevered.” He particularly praised Special Agent Keith Harper for leading the investigation. Col David Eaglin, Lakenheath’s 48th Fighter Wing Vice Commander, said: “Certainly for the victims, we are grateful the trial resulted in a conviction, and hopefully the outcome will provide the victims and their families with some closure.”

The Satanist, by ex-RAF Wing Commander Dennis Wheatley, is the story of a young man and woman who are prepared to acquiesce in appalling blasphemies and take part in horrific sexual rites in order to penetrate a East Anglia-based US Airforce Satanic circle in an attempt to solve a foul and brutal murder. The man, Barney Sullivan, is a secret agent who, horrified by the death of one of his colleagues whose body is virtually unrecognisable, becomes involved in the bestialities of the Devil whilst investigating Communist activities which threaten the security of the West; the girl, Mary Morden, has a past which enables her to put moral scruples aside – as she knows she must if she is to triumph over evil and bring the Devil worshippers to justice…  First published: August 1960. This book proved to be one of Wheatley’s most successful. The 1960s saw a massive increase in his readership due entirely to the popularity of paperbacks. Wheatley said that when ‘The Satanist’ went into paperback in 1966 it sold over 100,000 copies in ten days.(note 1) All of Wheatley’s novels were kept in print by Hutchinson in their imprint Arrow and by 1966 Wheatley could claim that he had sold twenty million copies of his books

STONE-DEAD Inside Stonehenge’s dark past on the summer solstice – from human sacrifices to skinned corpses and a twin torture site Professor Wolfgang Neubauer, who worked at the site, believed the bodies were from around 3,800BC and explained the “very peculiar burial rituals”. He said: “They had defleshment, they had cutting off heads – heads were actually treated completely differently than the other parts of the body. “There was preparation of the bones to be put into this large tomb, which was a tomb for the whole community.” Not only was all skin and flesh prized off but the bones were broken into small pieces that were then buried. Once the tomb was full, Professor Neubauer believed they submerged it along and left other tributes to either the dead or the gods.

George Galloway, The Workers Party – shut out of election coverage? Claire Daley, MEP, pushed out…. Craig Murray on why he joined The Workers Party – Gaza. George Galloway says he should be allowed on TV election debates The Workers Party of Britain is fielding candidates across the country George Galloway says it is ‘completely wrong’ that he has not been invited to take part in televised general election debates. The Workers Party of Britain leader, who became Rochdale’s MP earlier this year following a by-election, says he should be included. Speaking to the Manchester Evening News ahead of the ITV debate on Tuesday (June 4), Mr Galloway said his party is planning to field candidates in 326 constituencies across the country at the general election. This is just over half of the total seats available in the UK. ITV hosted the first head-to-head general election debate between Conservative Prime Minister Rishi Sunak and Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer. On Friday (June 7), the BBC will host a TV debate between leading figures from the seven biggest political parties in Britain. The list includes Conservative Party, the Labour Party, the Liberal Democrats, The Scottish National Party, Plaid Cymru, the Green Party and Reform UK. ITV will then host another election debate on Thursday (June 13) with the same seven political parties set to take part. Mr Galloway was invited to give his response to the first debate on ITV News. He said this is was an ‘outrage’, but ‘better than nothing’. He told the M.E.N.: “It’s completely wrong, especially before [Nigel] Farage came back into the game, for the Reform Party, which has no elected MPs and is not standing in very many more seats than we are, that they should be on the leaders’ debates and we have 100 per cent more elected MPs than them and 50, 60 per cent more elected councillors than them. And yet they’re on the debate and we’re not.” Reform UK, which was founded by former UKIP leader Nigel Farage as the Brexit Party in 2018, had one MP before Parliament was dissolved. Former Conservative MP Lee Anderson defected to join the party earlier this year, as have several Conservative councillors. Speaking after the debate on Tuesday (June 4), Mr Galloway told ITV News: “Viewers would have fallen asleep at the utterly repetitive. He added: “It was utterly banal, repetitive rubbish. It was a flyweight, Rishi Sunak, against a plunky, very overweight, heavyweight Keir Starmer who can’t think on his feet and who was being pummelled by Sunak every time he got him at close quarter. “The overwhelming feeling in the country will be, these people truly are, in Galloway’s words, two cheeks of the same backside.”

LBC – Farage on a Reform Party candidate likening Muslims to Nazis. Farage defends Reform UK candidates after anti-Islam and far-right comments exposed Nigel Farage has defended comments made by Reform UK candidates after LBC exposed one who said ‘Islam and Nazis are the same thing’ during a public rant in 2017. Mr Farage said it was ‘utter cobblers’ that Reform UK candidates had voiced ’Nazi sympathies’ as he took calls from listeners on LBC this morning. He was confronted on air with comments made by individuals standing for Reform UK, including one who described the pandemic as a ‘health holocaust’ and a another who said vaccine firms were like ‘Nazi armament companies.” Mr Farage dismissed the remarks, saying: “People chuck stuff around on Facebook and they like comments.” On keeping the candidates in the party, he said: “I can disown them but I can’t deselect them.” Nick Ferrari confronted Mr Farage after LBC unearthed comments made by Reform UK candidate Steve Chilcott, who said ‘Islam and Nazis are the same thing’ during a public 2017 rant. Earlier this week the Times reported on a Reform UK candidate who said Britain should have been ‘neutral on Hitler’. Ian Gribbin also praised President Putin and said women should be denied healthcare. The party has stood by him, but Gribbin later apologised saying his comments had been “taken out of context.” Reform candidate rants that ‘Islam and Nazis are the same thing’ in unearthed footage Asked this morning about Reform UK candidate Steve Chilcott’s comments, Mr Farage said: “Never heard of him.” He angrily replied to Nick: “They are ordinary people. That’s how people out there speak. That’s how they feel. “People are allowed to have opinions. People are allowed to express views. “I’m scared of all fanaticisms. A very prominent businessman who happens to be a follower of Islam has joined our party.” “What is worrying is Islamism, extremism.” On the prospect of disciplining candidates for their views, Mr Farage said: “What can you do? The name is on the ballot paper I can’t remove it.”

George Galloway ‘The SYSTEM is making people sick’! Voting for the lesser of two evils means evil wins! Sky interviews Sunak and Starmer – Starmer called a robot. Reform Party have a lead over Tories. Starmer on military intervention action generally and Northern Ireland. George Galloway Full Speach @Campaign Launch of Dr. Khalila | Candidate For Stretford & Urmston – George Galloway: ‘The one thing they want more than any other is to see the back of me – that’s my tactic’ Sitting in his Rochdale town centre office, George Galloway has spent much of the morning dealing with ‘real complications’ that have been developing with his party’s campaign in Blackburn. Four weeks out from the general election, he is busy preparing a list of candidates to stand in seats across the country. It’s been 100 days since the 69-year-old Scotsman won the Rochdale by-election to become the town’s MP. He is now hoping to be re-elected for a full five-year term on July 4 – but the Workers Party of Britain leader has grander political ambitions too. As it stands on Tuesday (June 4), when he speaks to the Manchester Evening News in an extended interview, his party hopes to field 326 candidates in just over half the total seats available. “Which therefore, notionally, means I’m running to be Prime Minister,” he grins. “Notionally.” A little over a month earlier, Mr Galloway stood outside Parliament flanked by dozens of his party’s candidates, including former England cricketer Monty Panesar. The following week, Mr Panesar pulled out, saying he needed more time to find his ‘political home’. Then, the snap election was called. Mr Galloway had predicted the poll would be held in May, and when it wasn’t, he guessed January. “Nobody expected this turn of events,” he chuckles. “Least of all the Tory party.” In April, Mr Galloway said the Workers Party intends to field a ‘full slate’ of candidates across the UK, with the exception of Northern Ireland – where he believes no British political party should stand – and Scotland where they will be ‘lighter on the ground’. The party would also not stand against MPs they support, including former Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn, who is now running as an independent. But with the deadline to nominate candidates having passed on Friday (June 7), the Workers Party appears to have fielded candidates in far fewer constituencies than Mr Galloway hoped for. According to Elections Map UK, the party has candidates standing in 151 seats. Some of the target seats he hopes to win are in Greater Manchester. Oldham East and Saddleworth is third on the list, he says, while Ashton-under-Lyne – Labour deputy leader Angela Rayner’s seat – is fourth, with Manchester Gorton also in the top 10.

Northern Ireland and British secretstate manipulation. How repeated IRA bombing of the City of London brought peace: Ben Lowry: Events after Canary Wharf show that the IRA’s London bombs focused minds In 1996, I lived in Hackney, three miles northwest of Canary Wharf. The bomb was not such a big worldwide media moment, but it was an event of huge significance in the timeline of events that led to a political settlement. One day we might find out what the IRA high command thought about that attack. Perhaps they were divided. I have long suspected that some of them felt unease at the murders of RUC constables David Johnston and John Graham, shot dead at point blank range by brutal killers (now dissidents?) in Lurgan in June 1997. It brought to a close the lapse in the ceasefire, which was restored in July of that year. Tony Blair, who was by then prime minister, was keen to push things along towards a deal. The following month, August, Mo Mowlam announced that Sinn Fein could enter the talks. The Belfast Agreement was signed the year after Canary Wharf, which echoes the way in which the 1985 Anglo Irish Agreement was signed the year after the 1984 Brighton bomb. In both instances, the deals were not of course merely the result of the preceding bomb spectaculars. They were the outcome of a complex set of factors and they had their origins years earlier. But the explosions did focus minds in London. The three big bombs that were aimed at London commercial targets caused damage costing a total sum approaching £2 billion, and incalculable harm to the capital’s reputation as a safe place to do business. By early 1995, well before the last of those three bombs, an apocryphal story was doing the rounds about how Japan’s ambassador to Britain had told John Major that it was intolerable that there were bombs going off in the City of London and that the UK needed to get to grips with the underlying issues. Whether or not such a discussion ever took place, it does seem obvious that major investors in London would have been concerned about the threat of blasts. We have for decades now been told that the City is seen around the world as a dynamic place for global commerce and that it is at the heart of Britain’s economic success. Protecting it as such a place would be a high priority for any government. In the immediate aftermath of Canary Wharf there were calls for a ring of steel to be erected around the City.

Palestine Action smash Barclays banks up with sledgehammers and throw red paint on Barclays Banks. UK: Pro-Palestine activists smash windows at twenty Barclays branches over Israel arms links Activists threw rocks and sprayed red paint on 20 buildings from Edinburgh to London in protest against the bank’s ties to firms supplying arms to Israel Pro-Palestine activists threw rocks and sprayed red paint on 20 branches of the British bank Barclays over its ties to arms firms supplying Israel in its ongoing war on Gaza. Protest group Palestine Action claimed responsibility for the targeting of the buildings on Monday, adding it worked in coordination with the climate group Shut the System. In a statement, the group said it “aims to halt the Palestinian genocide by undermining suppliers of weapons to the Israeli military… along with financial companies involved with these weapons suppliers”. Palestine Action has previously targeted the Israeli arms manufacturer Elbit Systems in so-called direct action protests, which involve physical damage and occupation of British properties associated with the company. The group says it has “adopted radical direct action tactics which include sabotage of key infrastructure to physically prevent continued support for destructive and lethal business operations”.

UK Banks Funding Gencide report by Campaign against the Arms Trade, Palestine Solidarity Campaign and War on Want – Barclays bank: Arming Israel’s Apartheid and Genocide – Israel is engaged in a genocidal assault1 on Palestinians in the besieged Gaza Strip. Across the occupied West Bank, including East Jerusalem, Palestinians are facing a surge in attacks by Israeli armed forces and settlers,2 while Palestinian citizens of Israel are subject to a campaign of discriminatory arrests, harassment and intimidation by the state of Israel. – UK banks and financial institutions are facilitating and profiting from Israel’s attacks against the Palestinian people by providing investment, loans and underwriting3 to companies supplying Israel with weapons and military technology. Our previous research, released in July 2022, demonstrated that Barclays, one of the UK’s largest high street banks, had shareholdings in, and/or provided loans and financial services to, at least nine companies known to be producing weapons and military technology sold to Israel and used in its militarised attacks on Palestinians. – This updated report reveals that since our previous research, Barclays has substantially increased the level of its financial ties with these nine companies, despite Israel’s devastating and unlawful attacks on the Palestinian people. Barclays is facilitating Israel’s war crimes and grave violations of Palestinian rights. It must take the immediate actions detailed at the end of this report, including ending all investment and provision of financial services to arms companies whose equipment has been used by Israel to carry out unlawful attacks on Palestinians.

Hedley Rees on the mis-regulation of pharmaceuticals by the MHRA. Celebrity Doctors promoted vaccines without revealing payments during Covid pandemic. Follow Hedley Rees on Substack – Inside Pharma. MHRA Cut Corners and Dropped Inspections in the Covid Vaccine Supply Chain, Putting Public at Risk by Hedley Rees Errors in the pharmaceutical supply chain can harm patients, even kill them, if safety checks and protocols are not in place and observed. Did the breakneck speed in assembling supply chains for COVID-19 vaccines put patients at risk? That will only become clear when MHRA physically inspects the companies producing the Covid injections and acts on its findings. For those not familiar with supply chains, they bring us the food we eat, the cars we drive and the mobile phones we use to communicate. In fact, every product we consume must come to us via a supply chain. It is the series of stages a product must go through to be converted from raw materials into a finished product. This applies as much to medicines as to any product we consume. The added complication with medicines is that they go inside your body, but unlike food, they start off as an unknown substance. No-one knows what the medicine will do to you, or what your body will do to the medicine as it is broken down when inside you. It may come as a surprise to some, but the body can convert an apparently safe medicine into a toxic one if it collects in some vital organs. A company developing a new medicine must first construct a supply chain to produce a known quantity of the medicine’s active ingredient, typically 10 kilograms or litres. Nowadays, large pharmaceutical companies use contractors to develop and produce medicines, so it can take months, even a year or more, to get all the agreements in place. Once that is done and the supply chain is operational, the medicine under test is sent off to study safety in animal models. The average timescale to get all this done is three years.

AstraZeneca Covid jab now discontinued. FUNNY THAT! Article explaining secret paid advertising by pharma ‘independent experts’ on BBC etc REMOVED BY TELEGRAPH – Celebrity doctors promoted Covid vaccine without declaring payments TV viewers not told they have previously received thousands of pounds from AstraZeneca The pharmaceutical watchdog MHRA has been urged [but will it? ed.] to investigate after a string of celebrity doctors took part in discussions about the Covid vaccine but failed to declare they had been paid by AstraZeneca. In recent weeks, several high profile doctors have taken part in debates about the company’s vaccine on primetime television shows, but viewers were not informed that they have previously received thousands of pounds from the pharmaceutical giant. In April of this year, AstraZeneca admitted for the first time in court documents that its Covid vaccine can, in a small percentage of cases, cause a rare and dangerous side effect. The following month, it emerged that the Oxford-AstraZeneca Covid vaccine is being withdrawn worldwide. The revelations prompted a fresh round of debate about the vaccine, with celebrity doctors invited on to television shows to discuss the fallout. Dr Ranj Singh, who regularly appears on the BBC as a talking head, was paid £22,500 by AstraZeneca in 2021, according to records from the Association of the British Pharmaceutical Industry (ABPI). Last month, he led a discussion on the BBC breakfast show Morning Live about the safety of the AstraZeneca vaccine and the “serious but rare” complications associated with it. He failed to declare his payments from the pharmaceutical giant to either the BBC or to viewers. A BBC spokesman said they were unaware of the payments ahead of the show, adding: “The segment on the AstraZeneca Covid vaccine was balanced and covered reported risks and benefits. We became aware of Dr Ranj’s 2021 work for the manufacturer after this segment aired and have now addressed this within the show.” Dr Nighat Arif, who became a familiar face on television during the pandemic including on BBC Breakfast, was paid £10,000 by Astra-Zeneca in 2022. In April, she appeared on ITV’s This Morning to discuss possible side effects of the AstraZeneca vaccine such as blood clots, and reassured people that these are “very, very rare”. An ITV spokesman said that Dr Arif’s analysis was “fair, accurate and balanced”, adding that: “In her capacity as a medical professional [she] described the scientific process by which the vaccine could cause a blood clot. “She indicated that this was ‘rare’ on the basis that the number of people who had been identified as having suffered a clot as a result of the AstraZeneca vaccine was statistically small in comparison with the millions of people who had received the vaccine. This is in accordance with information published by the Government this year. She also referenced the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines within the discussion.” Dr Phillipa Kaye was paid £12,500 by AstraZeneca in 2020 and a further £9,000 by the same company in 2022.

David Miller’s quote against Science Media Centre. The Royal Institute. mRNA jabs for cancer coming soon. Within months of its launch the SMC was already embroiled in controversy over its activities. On the issue of genetically modified (GM) foods, it stood accused of operating ‘a sort of Mandelsonian rapid rebuttal unit’, and of employing ‘some of the clumsiest spin techniques of New Labour’. These claims arose out of allegations of a ‘secret campaign to discredit’ a BBC drama relating to GM crops. The connections of the director of the SMC to the Living Marxism network, and the SMC’s funding, have also attracted critical comment. The SMC provides a link from its home page to the Progress Educational Trust as a “source of information about assisted conception and genetics”, a body which has made Fiona Fox an adviser and has other links to the LM network through current and former staff. Dr David Miller of the Stirling Media Research Institute is amongst the SMC’s critics. He is quoted in an article in The Guardian as saying: The Science Media Centre (SMC) is… not as independent as it appears. It was set up to provide accurate, independent scientific information for the media but its views are largely in line with government scientific policy. The SMC made much of its charitable status, yet its charity number is the same as that for the Royal Institution (RI); in other words, it is almost synonymous with the RI. Similarly, its independence was supposed to be guaranteed by the fact that no more than 5% of its funding comes from any one source; yet 70% of its funding comes from business, which could be said to have similar interests. The SMC has since had the ac.uk removed from its email address after complaints that only academic institutions that were not corporately funded were entitled to this were upheld. In a critique of the SMC in Nature journal, the science policy journalist Colin Macilwain said the SMC “offers the media a clearing house for scientific briefings and packaged quotes from scientists” and commented on plans to set up a Science Media Centre in the US: The London SMC’s narrow approach to risk assessment — if you want to hear about the risks of nuclear power, say, just ask your local nuclear engineer (see Nature 471, 549; 2011) — sits happily with the prevalent ethos of British journalism. This was, of course, immortalized by the otherwise-obscure poet Humbert Wolfe: “You cannot hope / to bribe or twist, / thank God! the / British journalist. / But, seeing what / the man will do / unbribed, there’s / no occasion to.” Macilwain goes on to question whether the SMC is even needed in the UK, given that the British press — led by the BBC, which treats the Confederation of British Industry with the deference the Vatican gets in Rome — is overwhelmingly conservative and pro-business in its outlook. It is quite unperturbed by the fact that SMC sponsors include AstraZeneca, BP, Coca-Cola, L’Oreal, Monsanto, Syngenta (as well as Nature Publishing Group) but not a single environmental non-governmental organization (NGO) or trade union.

St Petersburg International Economic Forum this week – not covered in Western press hardly at all. G7 agrees to give more money to Zelensky. Putin lays out a peace offer for Ukraine – discarded. Russian President, Vladimir Putin delivers an address at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum. He has accused Ukraine of using US-supplied rockets to shell civilian targets in the Russian Belgorod region.Maria Zakharova, a spokeswoman for the Russian foreign ministry, claimed HIMARS rockets had been used and women and children had been killed Putin is joined by Zimbabwean President Emmerson Mnangagwais and Bolivian President Luis Alberto Arce Catacora. Chairing the session is Sergey Karaganov – a Russian political scientist.

Vladimir Putin delivers keynote address at St Petersburg forum MOSCOW, June 16 (Reuters) – President Vladimir Putin delivered the keynote address at Russia’s showcase St Petersburg International Economic Forum. Here are some quotations from Putin at the event, translated by Reuters. RUSSIAN ECONOMY: “Positive macroeconomic trends are gaining momentum… I agree with those of our experts who believe that growth (this year) will be… somewhere up to 1.5%, and maybe even (just) under 2%. And this will allow our country to keep its place among the leading economies of the world.” “The dynamics of non-oil and gas revenues attracts attention. In January-May they grew by 9.1%, which is noticeably higher than expected.” RUSSIAN DEFENCE SPENDING: “Today, our public finances are generally balanced, there is a small current federal budget deficit… Naturally, additional funds were needed to strengthen defence and security, to purchase weapons, we are obliged to do this to protect the sovereignty of our country.” EXIT OF FOREIGN BUSINESSES FROM RUSSIA: “I will say that if foreign manufacturers want to return again, come to our market, and we hear such conversations more and more often, we are not closing the doors to anyone… “You know very well that we have never driven anyone from our market or our economy.” NATIONAL CURRENCIES IN INTERNATIONAL SETTLEMENTS: “Today, about 90% of settlements with the countries of the Eurasian Economic Union are in roubles, more than 80% of settlements with China are in roubles and yuan. We are actively developing trade in national currencies with other states, too.” Initiated by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy, the two-day summit at the Swiss Alpine resort of Buergenstock aimed to find a consensus on how to end the war in Ukraine. RETURN OF ASSETS TO RUSSIAN JURISDICTION: “I ask the government, in contact with the business community, to expedite the return of assets in key industries to Russian jurisdiction … This must be done before December of this year.” WESTERN FREEZE OF RUSSIAN ASSETS: “The situation where funds are earned in Russia and then deposited in foreign accounts carries obvious and often unacceptable risks not only for the state, but also for Russian business itself. Many of our businessmen… were surprised to find that their accounts and assets were frozen in the West.” DE-DOLLARISATION: “We have never had, and do not have, the goal of de-dollarisation of the Russian economy. And we have never had, and do not have, the goal of influencing the de-dollarisation of the world economy. The influence of one or another currency on the world economy is connected with the economic potential of the country that is the issuer of that currency.” OPEC+ AND RUSSIAN ENERGY SECTOR: “All decisions within OPEC+ to reduce production … are of a depoliticized nature, they are not connected either with Russia’s special military operation or with any other opportunistic considerations, they are related to issues of economic feasibility for both producers and consumers”. “In general, the Russian oil and gas market is in good condition and has excellent development prospects.”….

Sergey Karaganov thinks Putin is being too soft. Karaganov on how you deal with a dog that bites you. First use sticks, (conventional weapons) then shoot some (nuclear weapons) and the others will run away. Putin on hyenas. Putin ending his speech at economic forum – Mnangagwa offers hyenas to Putin who says “we’ve got enough in Europe” ‘We have no problems with them, but they breed a lot, and if there is anybody who wants them, we are ready’ Russian President Vladimir Putin and his Zimbabwean counterpart Emmerson Mnangagwa shared a laugh during a tense debate on nuclear diplomacy on Friday, as they discussed how to deal with the real and metaphorical “hyenas” threatening their countries. During a plenary session of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF), political scientist Sergey Karaganov urged Putin to update Russia’s nuclear doctrine to allow nuclear retaliation against countries that strike Russia with conventional weapons. With multiple Western nations – including the US, France, and Germany – recently giving Kiev permission to use their missiles in long-range strikes on Russian territory, Karaganov argued that these countries have grown complacent and need to be reminded of Russia’s nuclear capabilities. “They have gone mad, especially the Europeans,” he told Putin. “It’s how animals behave. If there is a herd of hyenas or wild dogs and you’ve got a stick, you can keep them at bay. “But there’s a high chance that they will tear your clothes, and if you get tired they will bite you to death. If you can kill a couple of them then they will disperse.” “President Mnangagwa knows about the behaviour of hyenas,” Karaganov continued, before asking the Zimbabwean leader: “Do you agree Mr. President, that this is how you deal with hyenas?” “We do have lots of hyenas in Zimbabwe, but we keep them in the national parks,” Mnangagwa replied. “We have no problems with them, but they breed a lot, and if there is anybody who wants them, we are ready to donate,” he added, to laughter from the audience. “Well we’ve got hyenas of our own in Europe,” Putin responded. Russian nuclear doctrine has not changed since 2010. It allows for the use of atomic weapons in the event of a nuclear first strike on its territory or infrastructure, or if the existence of the Russian state is threatened by either nuclear or conventional weapons. “I do not believe that it is the case now,” Putin said, adding that Russia “needs no nuclear weapons to achieve victory” in Ukraine. However, Putin noted that changes to Russia’s nuclear doctrine “are not ruled out.”

Blowing apart Sergei and Yulia Skripal MI6 Russophobic WWIII lies: MI6 and London media propaganda around a fake Russian ‘poisoning’ of Sergei and Yulia Skripal in Salisbury Wiltshire on 4th March 2018  Russophobia The Saker website has stopped. Skripal affair dossier by The Saker  The Alternative Skripal Narrative by Michael Antony for The Saker Blog The recent titbit fed to us by Bellingcat (reputedly close to MI6) that a third Russian agent was booked on the flight from Heathrow to Moscow on the night of 4th March 2018 — the flight taken by the two alleged GRU officers filmed in Salisbury — but didn’t show up for it, has pointed to a possible solution to the baffling Skripal puzzle. What if the third man, or perhaps the man who was supposed to take his place, was by then lying in Salisbury Hospital in a coma from opiate poisoning? What if Sergei Skripal was a triple agent trying to escape back to Russia to tell the world the truth about the Steele Dossier, which he had helped to concoct as a scurrilous, obscene joke and which had unexpectedly become the new bible of the insane war party in Washington? …..The thing that proves this was a British crime not a Russian one is the fact that Yulia was a prime target. The Russians had no motive to eliminate her, but if they had, they could have done it in Russia with a simple road accident with no questions asked. Only the British had to do it in Britain, since they didn’t have the resources in place to do it in Russia. And if she was not a prime target but collateral damage, why was Sergei not attacked when he was alone? Why wait for her to visit him? The fact they were both targeted the day after she arrived in Britain puts MI6’s signature all over it. She was a danger to MI6 because she knew of Sergei’s plan to return to Russia and trash the Steele Dossier, and she had to be stopped from revealing this to the world when he was killed. Silencing her at the same time was just as important to MI6 as silencing him…..

Scott Ritter, at The Schiller Institute conference, on the unequal nuclear deterrents of different Countries and The West ripping up nuclear treaties. Russian war ships in Havana Cuba. Emergency Press Conference: The Danger of Nuclear War Is Real, and Must Be Stopped The World on the Brink: For a New Peace of Westphalia! · Scott Ritter: former U.N. weapons inspector and U.S. Marine intelligence officer · Col. (ret.) Richard H. Black: former head of the U.S. Army’s Criminal Law Division at the Pentagon; former State Senator, Virginia (Speaker’s views are not those of DOD or its agencies) · Ray McGovern: former CIA analyst and co-founder of the Veteran Intelligence Professionals for Sanity (VIPS) · Helga Zepp-LaRouche: founder of the Schiller Institute Host: Schiller Institute On June 3, the U.S. State Department prevented U.S. citizen Scott Ritter from boarding his flight to St. Petersburg, Russia, and seized his passport. Ritter, a former U.S. Marine officer and United Nations weapons inspector who has become a prominent opponent of the current war policy, was traveling to participate in the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF), which is being attended by an estimated 19,000 people and 3,400 media representatives from some 130 countries. Ritter was subsequently able to participate in the SPIEF panel via Zoom. In addition to the clear First and Fourth Amendment Constitutional issues raised by the Ritter case, the content of what Ritter was going to discuss is key: the need to improve U.S.-Russian relations and stop the escalating danger arising from NATO’s current posture towards Russia, as seen most starkly in Ukraine, which is dragging the world towards a nuclear World War III. The May 22 attack on a critical Russian early-warning radar system at Armavir, purportedly by “Ukrainian” drones, could have been the event which tipped the balance towards war—because it could have confirmed for Russia their stated belief that NATO and the West are intent on “blinding” Russia’s early-warning system in preparation for a possible “preemptive decapitation” strike by the U.S. and NATO against them. Russian President Vladimir Putin has repeatedly stated exactly this concern, publically, and it is the height of arrogant foolishness of the West to dismiss this as a “bluff,” as so many in Washington, London and other NATO capitals are now doing. As dangerous as attempting to blind Russia’s early-warning radar, are the efforts to silence opposition voices who function as a kind of “early-warning” system in the domain of policy deliberation—those who are warning of the danger of nuclear war, and are presenting alternatives to a policy of confrontation. On Wednesday, June 12 at the National Press Club in Washington, D.C., a distinguished panel of four experts will each make brief presentations on these topics, and will respond to questions from the media, both in person and over an international Zoom link (with simultaneous interpretation into German, French and Spanish for audiences in those countries).

Guterres in Jordan on how Gaza is the worst war induced humanitarian crisis the ‘West’ has ever supported. Gaza: ‘high time’ for ceasefire and hostage release, says Guterres | United Nations UN Secretary-General António Guterres addresses the plenary session of the High-Level Conference “Call for Action: Urgent Humanitarian Response for Gaza” in Amman, Jordan. A comprehensive ceasefire in Gaza linked to the release of all remaining hostages cannot come too soon, UN Secretary-General António Guterres said on Tuesday, as he welcomed the Security Council resolution adopted a day earlier seeking an end to the war there. Speaking in Jordan at an international conference prompted by the catastrophic humanitarian situation in Gaza, Mr. Guterres insisted that after more than eight months of intense hostilities, “the horror must stop”. “I welcome the peace initiative recently outlined by President Biden and urge all parties to seize this opportunity and come to an agreement,” the UN chief said. “And I call on all parties to respect their obligations under international humanitarian law. This includes facilitating the delivery of humanitarian aid both into and inside Gaza, as they have committed. All available routes into Gaza must be operational – and the land routes are absolutely crucial.” On Monday, the United States-drafted text urged Hamas to accept a ceasefire proposal announced on 31 May by President Joe Biden that has already been accepted by Israel, according to the White House. The text urges both parties to fully implement the terms of the proposal “without delay and without condition”. It was adopted by a large majority with 14 votes in favour and Russia abstaining – choosing not to exercise its veto power.

WHO chief Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, WHO, on the UN coming to an agreement on Gaza? WHO concerned about escalating health crisis in West Bank WHO remains concerned about the escalating health crisis in the occupied Palestinian territorys, including the West Bank, where attacks on health infrastructure and increased restrictions on movement are obstructing access to health care. A spike in violence in the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, since the war in Gaza started has resulted in the deaths of 521 Palestinians, including 126 children between 7 October 2023 and 10 June 2024. In addition, over 5200 people, 800 of them children, have been injured, adding to the growing burden of trauma and emergency care at already strained health facilities. As of 28 May, WHO has documented 480 attacks on health care in the West Bank since 7 October 2023, resulting in 16 deaths and 95 injuries. The attacks affected 54 health facilities, 20 mobile clinics and 319 ambulances. Fifty-nine percent of the attacks occurred in the cities of Tulkarem, Jenin and Nablus. They include attacks on health infrastructure and ambulances, detention of health workers and patients, obstruction of their access to health facilities, use of force on health workers and militarized searches of ambulances and staff. The closure of checkpoints, arbitrary obstructions, and detentions of health workers, rising insecurity, as well as the siege and closure of entire towns and communities has made movement within the West Bank increasingly restricted, impeding access to health facilities. Extensive infrastructure and housing damage, particularly in the northern West Bank, have compounded the situation by obstructing access for ambulances and first-aid responders. The long-standing fiscal crisis faced by the Palestinian Authority (PA) is further impacting the health system and has been worsened by Israel’s increased withholding of tax revenues meant for the occupied Palestinian territory since 7 October, and the overall deterioration of the economic situation in occupied Palestinian territory.

False flag: Mossad bombed their own London Israeli Embassy on July 26 1994 former MI5 officer Annie Machon – bombers …. 1994 London Israeli embassy bombing Convicted Samar Alami, a Lebanese-Palestinian woman and daughter of a banker, graduated with a BSc in chemical engineering from University College London and an MSc from Imperial College London. Jawad Botmeh, a Palestinian student based in London, graduated with degrees in electronic engineering from the University of Leicester and King’s College London. MOJUK: Newsletter ‘Inside Out’ No 36 Sad News Justice has been Denied Again Jawad Botmeh and Samar Alamihave lost their attempt to have the verdicts overturned. At the Court of Appeal, Lord Justice Rose, sitting with Mr Justice Hooper and Mr Justice Goldring, announced the decision to a packed court. The Court of Appeal also refused to reduce Samar and Jawad’s 20-year sentences. The ruling was greeted by cries of “shame” by supporters of the appellants in the public gallery. As the judges left the court some waved large banners declaring Samar and Jawad’s “innocence”. ‘New evidence’ The two denied involvement in the bombings or in any terrorist organisation and argued that new evidence which would exonerate them, had come to light. Their counsel, Michael Mansfield QC, earlier accused the Crown Prosecution Service and the Home Office of wrongly throwing a blanket of secrecy over intelligence agency information, which defence lawyers believed could clear the pair. Botmeh and Alami claimed that “suppression of evidence” rendered their trial unfair and their convictions unsafe. They further asserted that non-disclosure of relevant information was a breach of Article Six of the Human Rights Convention.
