Abolition of the City of London? Back to January 1977 and an extraordinary debate at the Greater London Council GLC in London in 1970s and what it achieved -Should the City of London be abolished? | The GLC | 1970s London | ThamesTV Should the City of London Corporation be abolished and put under direct control of the GLC and Tower Hamlets. TX 26 January 1977 get rid of The City – Tony Banks, Ken Livingstone, Brian Gould. Tony Banks who’s chairman of the GLC general purposes committee whose idea this takeover is and Norman Hall who’s chairman of the policy committee of the corporation of the city of London. Mr. Banks I can turn to you first of all why the need to absorb what has always been a very successful little borough. Well first of all not my idea to take over the city. I’m merely carrying through proposals that have been tabled by the labour movement both nationally and in London for many many years. Um, our contention is uh that the city doesn’t pay its fair share of running London, the costs of running London. Secondly, we we fail to see why the city, which is an unrepresentative enclave in the middle of London, should purport to speak on behalf of 7 million Londoners. And thirdly, we consider it to be the most undemocratic local government institution in the country that is sheltering behind a lot of pomp and circumstance, but is actually a very undemocratic institution that ought to have been removed many, many years ago. Norman Hall to guess you’d disagree. Oh, I disagree most totally. And first of all, let’s deal with the financial side very very briefly. We run our city extremely well on an extremely small budget and we give vast sums 140 million in fact to the Greater London Council, the Inner London Education Authority and other parts of London for the benefit of Londoners as a whole. All this talk about altering our affairs will be ridiculous when you think that we have got uh a marvelous neat tidy little area. The lady who’s just been talking said how neat and tidy it is and how is it going to be run from so far away as county hall where they have the most immense problems to try and run the whole of London. a most immense problem. So much so that there’s some doubt whether we shall even reach this on the agenda this afternoon. We we do in fact have immense problems and that is the very point of the argument that the city um has immense wealth. We have immense problems and we are saying that that city wealth should be dedicated more to solving London’s entire problems. Of course the city is a nice neat little uh um patch. So is my back garden. But the fact is that one looks at the problems from the GLC point of view of the whole of London and not of one square mile run by a few rich businessmen because that’s what it is. The back garden we’ve been talking about doesn’t contribute to the national economy. Whereas the city of London is the greatest contributor to the wealth and prosperity of this country that has ever been assembled in one small space. Wealth created by 500,000 people who come in every day to work in the city. But the business vote which is kept for the few businessmen, the 8,000 businessmen who work in the city but don’t live in the city is denied to the 500,000 workers who come in every day. Now, is that democracy? It doesn’t seem like it to me.
David Miller wins his court case against Bristol University – anti Zionism now protected as free speech. David Miller on Ammar Kazmi’s Attritian podcast – Pax Judaica as a new empire, with Jewish Zionists influencing elections, and creating new settlements around the World. Sacked professor wants job back after appeal win A professor says he is “looking forward” to returning to work at the university which sacked him for his anti-Zionist views and criticism of Israel. The University of Bristol dismissed Prof David Miller in October 2021 on the grounds he “did not meet the [university’s] standards of behaviour” after comments made about Israel. In 2024 Miller won an appeal against his sacking, and on Tuesday the university lost its challenge against the ruling at an Employment Appeal Tribunal (EAT). Miller said he was also looking forward to being “free to work in higher education without fear of intimidation or reprisal”. A university spokesperson previously said they were “disappointed” with the EAT’s decision. Miller, who worked at the university as a lecturer of political sociology, attracted criticism for a lecture in 2019 when he said the Zionist movement was one of five pillars driving Islamophobia in the UK. Critics described his statement as “false, vile” and an “antisemitic slur”. But a report into academic freedom of expression concluded his comments “did not constitute unlawful speech”. He made further comments against Zionism at a Campaign for Free Speech event in 2021 and was also criticised by the Bristol Jewish Society. He later called some Jewish student groups “political lobby groups” and described Jewish students at British universities as “political pawns by a violent, racist foreign regime engaged in ethnic cleansing”. In a subsequent email to a student journalist, he said Zionism “has no place in any society” with the comments leading to the disciplinary process, and subsequently dismissed. In 2024 an employment tribunal ruled Miller was wrongfully dismissed by the university, after he claimed unfair dismissal, breach of contract and discrimination or victimisation on grounds of religion or belief. The university appealed against the findings and told the EAT that his anti-Zionist beliefs were political and therefore not protected under the Equality Act. In a ruling on Tuesday, Lord Fairley, the president of the tribunal, dismissed most of the university’s appeal. He said he saw “no good reason why the beliefs relied upon by the claimant in this case should be excluded from protection simply because they related to an issue of social importance which might, broadly, also be categorised as ‘political'”.
Saudi Arabia, Turkey, and Pakistan sign NATO style defence pact, isolating Iran. US running out of missiles. Turkey says Saudi-Pakistan defence pact mirrors NATO’s Article 5, Egypt could also join Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan says the new defence agreement between Turkey, Pakistan and Saudi Arabia is technically equivalent to NATO’s Article 5 mutual defence clause and does not target Iran. Fidan told Turkey’s Anadolu news agency that the three countries would establish a ministerial committee resembling NATO’s decision-making structure. The pact will also have a general secretariat based in Saudi Arabia. Egypt could join the alliance once the parties resolve outstanding technical issues, Fidan added. Turkey, Pakistan and Saudi Arabia signed the agreement on Friday. What Pakistan’s defence pact with Saudi Arabia and Turkey means for the Middle East The deal, which establishes that an armed attack on one signatory will be treated as an attack on all three, risks drawing Islamabad deeper into Middle Eastern rivalries A new security pact between Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Turkey is reshaping the Middle East’s strategic map, bringing together three of the Muslim world’s most influential powers under a collective defence framework. Named after the holy city where it was signed on Friday, the Mecca Joint Defence Agreement stipulates that an attack against one member is an attack against all three. Echoing Nato’s Article 5, the clause gives the pact immediate geopolitical significance, even as the joint statement leaves specific military commitments vague. For Pakistan, the world’s only nuclear-armed Muslim-majority state, the accord marks a striking departure from its traditionally cautious stance as a regional mediator. By standing alongside Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Islamabad is positioning its armed forces as a potential security guarantor at the heart of an emerging axis spanning South Asia and the Gulf…
Board of Peace to build military base in Gaza. Trump’s Gaza Board of Peace issues first building contract – for a military base Exclusive: Louisiana firm awarded tender to build rudimentary outpost to house Moroccan troops Aram Roston in Washington Donald Trump’s Board of Peace, which was set up in January to oversee the reconstruction of Gaza, has finally issued its first construction contract in the devastated territory: a project to build a rudimentary 150-person military outpost to house Moroccan troops, a source familiar with the matter told the Guardian. The contract, which has not yet been finalised, was awarded to Arkel International, a Louisiana-based firm that has previously carried out work with the US government in countries such as Iraq. The Board of Peace is chaired by the US president and led by a team that includes his son-in-law Jared Kushner and friend Steve Witkoff. In an email, a Board of Peace official said the board and a group of Palestinian technocrats installed to oversee Gaza “are in the final stages of preparing several contract awards. None have been finalised.” The Palestinian group is known as the National Committee for the Administration of Gaza. The official said “one prospective contract concerns facilities to support the international stabilisation force (ISF), which will assist in implementing the roadmap’s security and governance arrangements”. They added: “This contract will be one of many that are essential for the future of Gaza.” A group of men in suits smile in front of a backdrop that reads ‘Board of Peace’ Trump’s Board of Peace plans to grant itself sweeping immunity, documents show Read more The award comes just days after Trump announced that Hamas had agreed to disarm, though there are considerable questions about how the group would give up its guns. Israel has opposed the plan, and increased airstrikes in Gaza after Trump’s announcement. The Guardian reported in July that the board’s original Gaza reconstruction had shrunk dramatically from an ambitious blueprint to rebuild the whole territory to a small pilot project in the south of the strip. The base now being planned is just 100 metres by 120 metres and is intended to house a contingent of Moroccan troops, who would rotate from a base in Israel, the source said. It would lie in the 60% of Gaza’s territory that the Israeli army directly controls. Israeli forces have also created a buffer zone beyond that area. The source said the base was about a mile from the Israeli border and would have a “quick extraction route” in case the small force came under attack. Screen showing glitzy buildings under title New Gaza Donald Trump’s original grandiose vision of a reconstructed Gaza is displayed by the president at the World Economic Forum meeting at Davos on 22 January. The UN resolution authorising the Board of Peace had approved establishing an “international stabilisation force” for Gaza, and there have been varying reports on which country would provide these troops. Morocco has promised a small contingent, but the legal framework for the ISF has yet to be finalised, and it is not clear when the deployment would begin. In earlier contract plans seen by the Guardian, the 150-person base was the first phase of a plan to build a 5,000-person military base in Gaza for the ISF. This base would have included “vehicle fighting positions” and a perimeter berm – or raised defensive bank – and would have rudimentary facilities suitable for short-term deployments. The earlier contract said the first phase would consist of “tents and cots for forces to sleep, as well as chemical toilets and handwashing stations. At this phase, this is what we would consider habitable.”
Meta can’t police the internet – leaving young people vulnerable. Meta fined $567m in largest child safety ruling against social media giant Meta boss Mark Zuckerberg has seen his company face an increasing number of lawsuits over child safety – pictured here after testifying at a Los Angeles court in a separate case in February A US judge in New Mexico has ordered Meta to pay another $567m (£421m) for its failure to warn the public about dangers its platforms posed to children, marking the largest fine against the company over child safety. Judge Bryan Biedscheid said the social media giant is a “public nuisance” akin to air pollution and that it must put the money in a fund aimed at reducing future harms. Thursday’s ruling is in addition to $375m in fines Meta was already ordered to pay in the case, for a total of $942m. Judge Biedscheid compared Meta to a factory, with advertising and content as its product and “the psychological harm and sexual exploitation of children to be the pollution that must be abated”. A spokesman for Meta, which owns and operates Instagram, Facebook, WhatsApp and Threads, said Thursday: “We disagree with the ruling and will appeal.” “We work hard to keep people safe on our platforms and have been transparent about the challenges of identifying and removing bad actors and harmful content,” they added. “We remain confident in our record of protecting teens online and will continue to defend ourselves against claims that misrepresent the facts.” Regarding the earlier $375m verdict in the case, Meta had said it intended to appeal the ruling and gave a similar explanation. It was the first time that a state had successfully sued Meta over child safety issues. Meta is currently facing thousands of lawsuits in the US over similar issues. In addition to the New Mexico rulings, Meta earlier this year lost a landmark case in Los Angeles which found it could be held liable for building addictive platforms. Bruce Daisley, a former European vice president of Twitter (now X), told BBC Radio 4’s Today programme the New Mexico fine, while large, was “a drop in the ocean” for Meta. In its latest financial results, the social media giant posted $61bn in revenue from April to June – up 28% on the same period a year ago. “But it’s an indication that we are moving to a stage where social media is going to be tackled around the world,” he said. Meanwhile, former safeguarding minister Jess Phillips told Today she believed US court challenges against big tech could enable the UK to take tougher action – without fearing it may damage UK-US diplomatic ties. Pollution comparisons The New Mexico case stems from a 2023 lawsuit brought by state attorneys. It argued Meta should be held liable for the way in which its platforms endangered children and exposed them to sexually explicit material and contact with sexual predators. In the first phase of the trial, Meta was found to have repeatedly violated New Mexico’s Unfair Practices Act as its recommendation algorithms essentially “steered” young users toward harmful content and contacts…
RELEASED FROM CUSTODY! PHOTOFIT PICTURES OF ALLEGED 7/7 LONDON BOMBINGS MASTERMIND STILL-TO-BE-CHARGED, IN BROMLEY, KENT! London 7/7 bombings – anomalies that lead to the idea it was a false flag. GB News – Haroon Aswat, linked to 7/7 bombings, has been released from mental hospital in Bromley. Photo of Haroon. Islamist terrorist linked London bombings receives nearly £15,000 in taxpayer-funded aid for ‘mental health’ support An Islamist terrorist linked to the London 7/7 bombings has received nearly £15,000 in taxpayer-funded aid for help relating to his “mental health”, GB News can reveal. Haroon Aswat, 51, born in Batley, West Yorkshire, has received mental health legal aid from the state totalling £14,074 over the course of 21 years. Returning to Britain in 2022 after serving prison time in the United States for plotting to form an extremist training camp, Aswat was detained under the Mental Health Act. Since then, he had been in Bethlem Royal Hospital in Bromley. However, the convicted terrorist was released from the southeast London mental health hospital last month after a High Court judge ruled he would be free after completion of his treatment. Despite Aswat’s current whereabouts being unclear, with the Ministry of Justice (MoJ) not confirming his location, it has been speculated he has been moved to another institution for mental health support. Legal aid the MoJ has matched to Aswat has been revealed to GB News via a Freedom of Information (FOI) request. It shows his total cost for mental health legal aid was £14,092.96, spanning across five separate grants between 2008 and 2025. Mental health legal aid is a category of civil legal aid in England and Wales, covering advice and representation for people sectioned under the Mental Health Act, including challenges to their detention. After being captured in Zambia in 2005, Aswat was brought to the UK and fought extradition requests to the US for nine years over plotting to form an extremist training camp in the state of Oregon in 1999. He was transferred to Broadmoor Hospital in 2008, after being diagnosed with schizoaffective disorder, which causes a person to have unpredictable and aggressive behaviour. In 2015, Aswat was sentenced to 20 years in prison in the US for conspiring with convicted terrorist and ex-London imam Abu Hamza to set up an Islamist training camp in 1999. He was returned to the UK four years ago after serving part of his sentence in the country, as periods of detention while awaiting extradition were discounted from his incarceration. 7/7 bombings Aswat is understood to have confessed involvement in the 7/7 bombings while in US custody | In 2022, a psychiatrist found no evidence Aswat had the condition at the time of the offences, which took place around November 1999. The psychiatrist said Aswat openly endorsed “extremist ideology”, telling him in an interview: “I am a terrorist.” In a report prepared ahead of Aswat’s extradition, the psychiatrist wrote that even in a relatively stable mental state, Aswat had continued to express violent extremist Islamic views. The report also noted Aswat was “highly ambivalent” about taking medication and had relapsed twice after stopping treatment, with each relapse coinciding with violent outbursts. It concluded Aswat remains at risk of “Islamic violent extremism”. At the High Court hearing last year, the convicted terrorist was assessed by police in the UK, who concluded he “remains a risk to national security”. Aswat has been linked to the 7/7 bombings in London, 2005; however, he has never gone to trial for his alleged involvement. Police traced 20 calls from the 7/7 bombers to a phone linked to him just before the attacks, which killed 52 people and injured 770. Aswat left the UK via London Heathrow Airport for India just hours before the bombings took place. While in US custody, Aswat is understood to have confessed to involvement in both the 9/11 attacks in New York and the 7/7 London bombings. He is also understood to have trained at an al-Qaeda camp in Afghanistan in 2001 and to have stayed at a safe house in Pakistan, where he met two of the 7/7 bombers. The FOI shows the convicted terrorist has received £65,315.91 in legal aid in 21 years. The largest single grant was £30,168 for civil representation under “Public Law”, covering the period from 2013 to 2022. Of that, £6,194.54 went to solicitor costs and £23,973.46 to barrister fees. Aswat also received £21,054.95 in criminal legal aid between 2005 and 2007. This included £435.17 for police station attendance and £20,619.78 for a non-standard representation order at magistrates’ court. A further £14,092.96 was granted for mental health-related legal help, spread across five grants – the largest of these, worth £6,643.35, covered the period from 2010 to 2015. The MoJ said legal aid is paid directly to legal representatives rather than to the individual…
Richard Cottrell on the utter failure of journalism exemplified after the 7/7 London Bombings – context is Operation Gladio – NATO False Flag attacks on European civilians – is book ‘Gladio, NATO’s Dagger at the Heart of Europe, the Pentagon – Nazi – Mafia Terror Axis’. NATO false flags. An exhaustive chronicle of the doings and mis-doings of NATO and its motley clandestine collaborators might be expected to take some swallowing. And not just because the very notion of the thin veneer of democracy masking an endemic and far-reaching woodworm infestation tends to make the average punter queasy and inclined to hold tighter to his happily imbecilic delusions. Even those of us who always suspected there was something nasty in the nursery have been assailed by so much conspiracy theory that we would be forgiven for shrugging resignedly at the prospect of five hundred pages of all is not what it seems spookery. But Richard Cottrell is not of the tinfoil hat brigade; nor is he a purveyor of perverse propositions. He has spent much time in the thick of it in person – as a member of the European parliament, as a journalist, and even as an appointed rapporteur on one of the ever more compelling cases he instances of dark forces tampering with mass reality. Such cases stack up to a clearly repeated pattern and an increasingly recognisable M.O. which, taken together, betray the same criminal intents, and frequently the same criminals. Cottrell’s achievement here is monumental, not only in providing an encyclopaedic list of ‘deep state’ atrocities, false-flag capers and universal corruption, but in whisking us through it at a breathless pace, so that it reads more like a le Carré novel than a charge sheet. The author weaves his tangled web with wit and authority, not least because he doesn’t, himself, practice to deceive. Where the evidence refuses to add up, or isn’t all in yet, he won’t jump to conclusions merely to support his general thrust. Masquerading as a rear guard against a possible Communist takeover, NATO’s covert special forces are in reality a hideous cancer poisoning European democracy. The dirty war projects have included the Italian Strategy of Tension, the Red Brigades and Baader Meinhof/Red Army Faction, the Banco Ambrosiano scandal, the deaths of Italian ex-PM Aldo Moro, banker Roberto Calvi, media magnate Robert Maxwell, Swedish PM Olaf Palme, and “The Umbrella Murder,” as well as the attempt on Pope John Paul II’s life; the sex snare set for British PM Harold Wilson, and the Cyprus genocide. Gladio architect Lyman Lemnitzer is implicated in the 1944 reintroduction of the Mafia into Sicily and the murder of the Kennedy brothers. Covert NATO operations were behind Solidarnosc, the fall of the Soviet Union, the color revolutions of Eastern Europe and North Africa, and the massacres of August 2011 in Norway and Libya; the infiltration of Occupy Wall Street by violent provocateurs is on the same pattern.
US COINTELPRO (from COunter INTELligence PROgram) (1956–1971) was a series of covert and illegal projects conducted by the United States Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) aimed at surveilling, infiltrating, discrediting, and disrupting American political organisations. It was COINTELPRO that enabled the FBI and police to eliminate dissident leaders without undermining the image of the United States as a democracy, complete with free speech and the rule of law. David Icke, Paul Mason, Robin Ramsay all proclaim their anti-establishment credentials. But are they waging war on the truth, part of a witting or unwitting MI5 Double-Cross style disinformation machine? Attempting to discredit and destroy the genuine alternative media and freelance journalism?
Aisling O’Loughlin looks at ‘nonsensical’ conspiracies surrounding 2017 Manchester Arena bomb, and why they continue, without any evidence – COINTELPRO UK? or just stupid/mad? Off the wall conspiracy ideas muddying the water for the real conspiracies. How counterintelligence tricked conspiracy theorists into drawing the wrong conclusion Aisling O’Loughlin So-called investigative journalist Richard D Hall convinced his followers there was no bomb and no victims from the Manchester Area blast on Monday 22, 2017. Only problem is he failed to provide sufficient proof the victims were crisis actors. This is a breakdown of how he used suggestion and speculation to brainwash his audience who to this day are convinced there was no bomb and no victims that night. Iain Davis wrote a book The Manchester Attck: An Independent Investigation ignoring the victims, something unheard of in journalistic terms, a stunning omission. He dismissed my concerns that his approach could lead to the wrong conclusion during our interview, September 10, 2024. The audience seemed to think leaving out the victims was perfectly fine too, which was troubling to say the least. It would be good to get some clarification on what’s going on considering we’ve been so public about this debate over the years. Iain’s book is currently unavailable on Amazon. It appears to be still available to buy on his website but the sale won’t go through on Paypal. Has his book been removed from circulation or is it just out of stock? If it is the case that the families of the deceased have been in touch to put a halt to the book’s distribution, this puts Iain Davis in a bit of a predicament. He ignored the victims because he deemed them irrelevant to the story. A terrible idea as I tried to warn him in September 2024 but he followed in the footsteps of Richard D Hall’s unreliable evidence. Madness! It didn’t make any sense and still doesn’t to this day. All those pushing the ‘no bomb, no victims’ line on the Manchester Arena bombing must be looked at with suspicion. Either they’ve believed the worst kind of evidence through naivety and groupthink or they’ve actively been trying to hoodwink people into a false conclusion for nefarious purposes. Yes it’s that stark. This is where David A. Hughes and Iain Davis’ ‘no bomb, no victims’ theory falls to pieces. They can’t explain the deaths or injuries from the night. If there was no bomb, what killed and injured all the people? Also none of the families have backed up their claims. Why do people insist on believing absurdities? Is it because it comes out of the mouths of people they deem to be experts?

Rod Liddle, journalist, dies aged 66. His history. Origins at an SWP which we know was infiltrated by MI5. SDS (Special Demonstration Squad) mainly infiltrated left wing groups. Rod Liddle played the politics of hatred – we should be honest about his legacy Peter Oborne Tributes praised a ‘great journalist’, but very few touched on the fact that he was also a racist, a bigot and an Islamophobe This year, few public figures have enjoyed as resounding a send-off as the newspaper columnist Rod Liddle. Mr Liddle, who died this week, is being hailed as a truth-teller for our times whose trenchant columns “upset all the right people”. There’s no denying that Liddle was a sometimes dazzling writer who grabbed the reader’s attention and never let it go. Many tributes have emphasised this heaven-sent quality, and many have added that a kindly soul lurked behind the intimidating public personality. But very few tributes even touched on the fact that Liddle was also a racist, a bigot and an Islamophobe. This open and undisguised bigotry was a core part of his public identity, his personality and his legacy. “I have spent the morning trying to draw a cartoon of a black person without it being racist,” Liddle opened one column for the Spectator. He went on: “It’s bloody difficult. Especially the lips.” In another Spectator article he falsely claimed that the “overwhelming majority” of violent crime in London was carried out by young African-Caribbean men. Genocide denial On Tuesday, this kind of writing was hailed as brilliant right across the British media and political establishment Fraser Nelson, who as editor of the Spectator published hundreds of Liddle’s articles, said that “his jokes were built on judgment, rigour, compassion”. But is this true? Take, for example, Liddle’s public defence of Myanmar’s massacre of Rohingya Muslims. On the pages of the Sun in September, 2017, he asked:”Are you sure we’re being told the full story about those Muslim Rohingya refugees who are flooding into Bangladesh from Burma? “All we get is a BBC correspondent crying in front of the refugee camps every night. “It’s probably true that the Burmese government has been a bit, um, heavy-handed. But shouldn’t we be told a little more about the causes of the problem?” Myanmar, bear in mind, is now charged with genocide. It is well-documented that Burmese militias, backed by the army, had gone through Myanmar’s Rakhine province on a systematic campaign of slaughter, rape and destruction. In the immediate aftermath of the events that Liddle dismisses so lightly, I travelled to neighbouring Bangladesh to get the stories of survivors. One witness told me that the first action of soldiers upon arriving at his Rohingya village was to separate the local people into three groups. Men, young women (including girls as young as five), old women or those one eyewitness described to me as “those who are not so beautiful.” The soldiers opened fire. “All the young men were shot at once. It took less than ten minutes,” the eyewitness told me. The soldiers then walked over to the pile of dead bodies. Anyone who showed signs of life was hacked to death with a machete. The soldiers then opened fire on the older women. Finally the younger women were then taken to the forest and gang-raped, before being burnt alive. This process was described by Liddle – long after all this was well-documented – as “a bit, um, heavy-handed”. The slaughter of the Rohingya was one of the most heinous crimes of the 21st century. Liddle used it to fill a jokey column in the Sun. This wasn’t a joke. It was genocide denial. Normalising hate Liddle mocked, ridiculed and sneered at pretty well every minority group, but he reserved a special contempt for Muslims. “A quick update on what the Muslim savages are up to,” began one of Liddle’s “hilarious” articles…
The 2003 article that launched Liddle’s move to the top of London journalism: Should it really be a crime to look at child pornography? Rod Liddle Tue 14 Jan 2003. I wanted to look at some pictures of child pornography from the internet this week and then tell you all about them, but I couldn’t because my stupid modem broke down. I’m not sure how the law or, for that matter, society will view my failure. The intent, clearly, was there. In mitigation I suppose I could say I was planning to do it all on your behalf and would gain no pleasure from the operation myself. That’s what I could say. In which case perhaps the policemen should turn up at your house instead. Imagine the modem had worked exactly as the smug, acne-ridden computer salesman had assured me it would. Could I have told the police, and later the courts, that my motives were in the glorious traditions of Woodward and Bernstein, James Cameron and Donal MacIntyre – ie, serious campaigning investigative journalism? Would they have scoured the bedroom floor for incriminating evidence to disprove my plea of mitigation? And why, exactly, is it a plea of mitigation in the first place? Why is it any less exploitative of the unfortunate children concerned for me to download pictures of them and write about it, in a harrumphing fashion, for this newspaper? Does it hurt them any more or any less than if I had simply downloaded the pictures for my own gratification? I would be, in my own fashion, gaining from the experience and – worse, you might argue – gaining remuneratively. And what about the police? They would have to look at the pictures, too. And the court officials and maybe the members of the jury, all united in their unbridled repulsion. What if, secretly, one of them, poring over the evidence and sweating slightly, rather enjoyed it? Does that matter, as far as the law, or society, is concerned? The law prohibits, in theory, even an accidental visit to a child-porn website. But we are told that prosecution would be unlikely to occur if it could be proved that the visit was, indeed, accidental. How do you prove that? No, really, officer, it was all a ghastly mistake. Will that wash? Scotland Yard is, at present, scouring its files for evidence of a telephone call made to them, supposedly, by the rock guitarist, Pete Townshend. He says he visited a child-porn website and, appalled, rang the police to tell them about it. Does that make it OK, then, telling the police about it afterwards? Can I visit a child-porn website and, perhaps having sated my paedophilic lust with various grotesque fantasies, tell the police later how horrid it was? And get away with it? Why does that make a difference? The latest statement from Scotland Yard suggests it makes a big difference. That, after all, is why they are searching their files for the alleged telephone call. “The timing [of the call] could obviously put a different slant on it,” a police spokesman said yesterday. Why? Because it would suggest Townshend hadn’t really enjoyed looking at the pictures? Is it the sexual psyche of the individual we are attempting to legislate against, or the exploitation and abuse of children? Will the authorities start poking around in Townshend’s mind to discern, once and for all, what his motive was in downloading the stuff? We know Townshend enjoys pornography; he has said so. What’s more, he wrote what must be the first ever pop song about masturbating to pornographic magazines, Pictures of Lily. Hell, the prosecution rests its case, M’lud…
Almost total control of the UK Socialist Workers Party (SWP), where Rod Liddle began, by MI5 – detailed here – This very interesting book details Shayler’s joining MI5 in the early 1990s,his various responsibilities(security vetting, counter subversion against far left and right groups, anti terrorism, and curbing libyan intelligence in britain). His criticism of MI5 is on the one hand they’re too bureaucratic and cumbersome,on the other hand they’re unnaccountable. I find these criticisms inconsistent. However in my view Shayler comes over as a completely normal young man and not at all like the MI5 stereotype i thought after reading a lot of conspiracy books,in which they all come over as old men with extreme right wing views. The description of receiving information from sister organisation MI6(foreign operations) about a libyan opposition groups assassination attempt on Gadhaffi, has been vindicated. This was despite a smear attempt against Shayler by the british government which called him a liar. The supreme irony is that the anti gadhaffi group MI6 funded was allied to arch terrorist Osama Bin Laden. At the back of the book is a brilliant 3 page detail of the structure of MI5 in the 1990s. very detailed. brand new material on the War on Terrorism, including insider reports on the Bali bombing, discussion of M15’s tragic lack of intelligence on September 11th, and how it is now regarded as a massive intelligence failure. Defending the Realm provides a rare insight into the secret world of M15 and breaks new ground in revealing its covert techniques—from phone-tapping and mail tampering to the running of agents and surveillance operations. This new edition also provides a profile of M15’s new female director, Hon. Eliza Manningham-Buller.
Bastille Day in France – Florian Philippot of Les Patriotes leads a demonstration against Ukrainian troops taking part. French politics. ‘KICK THEM OUT!’: French Protesters Target Ukrainian Troops At Bastille Day Parade In Paris July 20, 2026 Scores of French protesters rallied against Ukrainian troops’ participation in the Bastille Day military parade in Paris. The protesters, who are supporters of French nationalist politician Florian Philippot, marched through the city on Tuesday to slam the decision. Footage shows demonstrators streaming through Place du 18 Juin 1940 in Montparnasse, carrying French flags and banners reading ‘FREXIT’ and ‘Down with the European Union – The Patriots.’ Philippot, leader of Les Patriotes, called the demonstration a ‘real national parade’ that would be “100 percent French and free”, contrasting it with the official celebrations on the Champs-Elysees. Demonstrators echoed his criticism, chanting, “Soldiers of Ukraine, go home!” and “Soldiers of NATO, go home!”
NATIONAL PALESTINE SUPPORT: Police arrest pro Palestine Action protesters outside Horfield prison. Tim Crosland, Defend Our Juries, at a pro Palestine Action protest in London. Yvette Cooper. Police arrest 117 people for backing Palestine Action at London demo POLICE have arrested 117 people at a demonstration backing the banned group Palestine Action. Demonstrators outside Westminster Magistrates Court in central London declared their support for the banned group to get themselves arrested. The cases of several people arrested for supporting the group were due to be heard in the court on Thursday the hearings were postponed. A small number of protesters designated themselves as being willing to be arrested and gathered in a central spot outside the court. They would then say that they supported Palestine Action at which point they would be arrested and led, or in some cases carried, away by the police. The protest was organised by the group Defend Our Juries, which has organised a number of similar events in the last year, resulting in thousands of arrests. A spokesperson for Defend Our Juries said: “We had hoped to see a different response from the Met Police today, but yet again they are embarking on making hundreds of arrests of regular people who refuse to do nothing as the judiciary criminalised those who act to save lives as terrorists. “These arrests, like that of thousands of others, 1855 of whom were listed as needing to appear in court today, are an assault on our democracy, our civil liberties and our moral obligation to step in to prevent genocide. “We urge the new PM to stop this insanity, at a time when there is so much positive work to be done in our country, Andy Burnham needs to put a stop to huge sums of taxpayer money being used for these arrests and prosecutions that the public at large do not support.” The Met warned the night before that anyone who expressed support for Palestine Action was liable to be arrested. Assistant Commissioner Andy Valentine said: “The law is clear. Expressing support for proscribed organisations is a criminal offence and anyone doing so can expect to be arrested. “There are any number of ways to express views on the humanitarian situation in Gaza or on Israeli military action that don’t involve criminality. “Doing otherwise is an intentional decision and one which has a detrimental impact on the public, court staff, victims and witnesses attending court, and those trying to go about their lawful business in the local area.” He added: “It also affects Londoners more broadly whose local police officers are withdrawn from communities to police this operation. “The fact that there are no hearings related to Palestine Action taking place at the court tomorrow [Thursday] makes the decision to continue with this event all the more nonsensical. “Even at this late hour, I would urge those intending to take part to reflect on their decision to do so.”….
LOCAL PALESTINE SUPPORT: Four peaceful protesters arrested at Palestine Action demonstration outside Bristol Prison “Deep in my heart I do believe, Gaza will be free someday,” sang protesters, as another group sitting in a peaceful and silent demonstration outside Bristol Prison were arrested for holding signs in support of Palestine Action. 14 protesters were carted into police vans on Thursday morning for holding signs in support of the pro-Palestinian group, which remains a proscribed organisation in the UK, meaning showing support for it is illegal. In the background, protesters continued to sing songs and chant slogans in solidarity with Palestine and the Filton 25, pro-Palestinian activists who were arrested in 2024 after an incident at the Elbit Systems site in Filton. A group of protesters sat silently with signs in support of proscibed organisation Palestine Action “Incarceration is a tragedy, but it’s not a failure”, said Lewie Chiaramello, one of the Filton 25, as he spoke to protesters from inside the prison facility in Horfield. “It’s something to be avoided but not at all costs.” Four of the Filton 25 were charged as terrorists in a retrial in June, after a jury reached partial or no verdicts at a hearing in February. Lewie continued: “Not if it means we’re pacified in the face of oppression, and not if its silences are in complicity to a genocide. “And if we want to realise our dreams of a world governed by love, then unfortunately, state violence in the form of incarceration and repression are the unavoidable consequences of resisting racial capitalism, neo colonialism and genocidal profiteering. “It’s a tragedy, but in response, we must love more powerfully and let that love be the seed for growth.”…
RAPISTS AND MURDERERS BEING RELEASED FROM UK PRISONS EARLY ‘TO MAKE SPACE 1: BBC World Tonight – with criminal barrister Mark Thomas KC – early release system for prisoners explained. China – what works and doesn’t work there. What are the main changes in the Sentencing Act 2026? The changes are wide-ranging, but three reforms are likely to have the greatest impact on sentencing and release. Firstly, there is now a presumption in favour of suspended sentences for terms of imprisonment less than 12 months. A suspended sentence is a prison sentence that does not have to be served immediately, provided the offender complies with conditions set by the court and does not commit another offence during the operational period of the order. If those conditions are breached, the sentence can be “activated” – meaning that the offender can be ordered to serve the prison sentence in whole or in part. Where a court is considering a prison sentence of no more than 12 months, it must now suspend that sentence unless there are exceptional circumstances relating to the offence or the offender which justify not applying the presumption, or there are certain exemptions which means that the presumption does not apply. Secondly, the scope of suspended sentence orders has been expanded. Previously, they could only be imposed for sentences of imprisonment of two years or less. This has now increased to three years. Courts can also suspend a sentence for up to three years, rather than the previous maximum of two. This means that the courts now have the power to sentence an offender to three years’ imprisonment, suspended for three years. Thirdly, offenders will generally spend less time in custody before being released on licence. To be released on “licence” means they can leave prison before the end of their sentence but must comply with conditions, such as meeting regularly with a probation officer. Failure to comply can result in them being “recalled” to prison. For those sentenced on or after 2 September 2026, release points are reduced – for example, from two-thirds of a sentence to one-half, and from one-half or two-fifths to one-third. The new release rules will also apply to many people who are already serving prison sentences, although the timing of when these changes apply depends on the length of their sentence…
RAPISTS AND MURDERERS BEING RELEASED FROM UK PRISONS EARLY ‘TO MAKE SPACE 2: Are UK prisons being cleared out to make way for thousands of elderly ‘Thought Criminals’ who oppose Israeli genocide? Yvette Cooper’s absurd ban means Palestine Action is now akin to ISIS or al-Qaeda in British law. Expressing support or membership of the group is a criminal offence that could lead to a prison sentence of up to 14 years. Thousands defy UK ban on Palestine Action in ‘historic’ mass civil disobedience Protests take place in 18 towns and cities across the UK. Campaigners challenging the UK government’s ban of direct action group Palestine Action have announced a series of “historic” actions which they are calling the “most widespread mass civil disobedience in modern British history”. Protests will take place in 18 towns and cities across the UK next month ahead of and during next month’s judicial review of the direct action group’s proscription. Clive Dolphin, a spokesperson for Defend Our Juries, the campaign group coordinating the protests, said that the actions were “designed to exert pressure” over the upcoming judicial review. In July, Yvette Cooper, then home secretary, banned Palestine Action and designated the group as a terrorist organisation. The ban means Palestine Action is akin to the Islamic State or al-Qaeda in British law, and expressing support or membership of the group is a criminal offence that could lead to a prison sentence of up to 14 years. Since then, thousands have risked arrest under the Terrorism Act for holding signs stating “I oppose genocide, I support Palestine Action”. So far more than 2,000 people have been arrested, while 170 face charges under Section 13 of the Terrorism Act. While total numbers of participants are currently unclear, previous protests opposing the group’s proscription have drawn crowds of more than a thousand people. Defend Our Juries said they expect varying responses from police forces across the country. During the last round of protests in early October, a number of forces, including those in Devon and Cornwall, Edinburgh, Derry, Totness and Kendal, chose not to make arrests. “What we’ve come to understand over the course of these protests is that there is a political element to the policing,” Dolphin said, describing Metropolitan Police Commissioner Mark Rowley’s approach as “masochistic”. “Rowley has thrown huge amounts of resources at arresting every single person,” Dolphin said. “We’ve seen officers from all across the country coming down to London to carry out arrests on behalf of the Met police.” Dolphin said that the proscription had unleashed “chaos” in the magistrates’ court system, noting that Westminister is the only magistrates’ court able to handle terrorism cases. Dolphin said that an additional magistrates’ court had been designated to deal with the additional workload. In two case management hearings earlier this month, judges outlined plans for trials of defendants which would see them tried five at a time in two-and-a-half-hour hearings. Lawyers told Middle East Eye that the proposal would restrict their right to a fair trial. ‘No other choice’ Alongside the sign-holding actions, Prisoners for Palestine (PFP) announced that prisoners held on remand for alleged offences relating to Palestine Action activities will launch a rolling hunger strike on 2 November, over what they describe as “systematic abuse” by prison authorities. The group said that they had “no other choice” after a letter to Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood outlining their demands, including immediate bail and an end to prison interference with their personal communications, went “unanswered and ignored”. Francesca Nadin, a former prisoner and PFP campaigner, said that all Palestine Action-linked prisoners are “suffering from constant censorship” by prison authorities, with restrictions placed on their calls and “hundreds” of their personal letters reported to have “gone missing”…
Andy Roberts, Fine Print, with details about why UK trains are expensive and don’t work so well. Your Bill – £257 Fine Print They got paid £310 million during the pandemic when nobody was riding trains. They got paid £8.9 billion to run a franchise where 160 trains a day were cancelled. And they’re getting paid right now while you’re freezing on a platform watching the board flip from delayed to cancelled. Here’s the contract that made it legal. The rolling stock companies paid out a total of £409.7m to shareholders and profit margins rose to 41.6% in 2022-23, according to the Office of Rail and Road, as the rest of the railway was told to make swingeing cuts and salaries were frozen. Taxpayer subsidies are still running at twice pre-pandemic levels. Unions have urged a windfall tax on the huge dividends, describing the financing of trains as a “racket” without risk to the leasing firms… The three rolling stock companies are Eversholt, Porterbrook and Angel Trains. They were created at privatisation with the controversial sell-off of state-owned British Rail trains, and still lease the majority of UK trains. They have paid cumulative dividends of around £2bn in the last decade, and the highest-paid directors earn almost twice as much as the chief executive of Network Rail, Andrew Haines. According to its latest accounts, filed last year, Eversholt, a subsidiary of Li Ka-shing’s Hong Kong firm CK Hutchison, paid dividends of £40.7m in 2022, while its chief executive, Mary Kenny, was paid £1.075m. Porterbrook, owned by a group of shareholders led by Luxembourg-based insurer Allianz and Canadian pension fund AIM, paid dividends of £80m in 2022, while chief executive Mary Grant was paid £1.2m. Angel Trains, majority-owned by the Canadian pension fund PSP, paid dividends of £124.6m, and chief executive Malcolm Brown was paid £900k
Interview by Tony with Richard Cottrell, author of ‘Doctor Who?’, about 10 years ago – the Beeching cuts to railways in UK. He explains how the cuts weren’t necessary, and the train system had to pay for it’s whole system itself, whereas roads were funded by government. UK giving nuclear bomb info to Russians. The book describes the efforts of the British Government to force the diversion of rail traffic to roads and the motor transport industry by shuttering much of the rail network. A key figure in this scheme was Doctor Who? – Doctor Richard Beeching – a physicist who it is revealed in this book for the first time helped to design the British A Bomb during his wartime work at top secret weapons establishment. Hence Atomic Bomber Beeching and his War on the Railways.
Beeching’s reign of terror in the early 1960’s resulted in the closure of a third of the UK rail network, mostly on on entirely specious grounds to please his political masters in the Conservative Party. Parts of the system that he closed are now being painstakingly and expensively re-opened. The railway that he saw at death’s door is now carrying more passengers annually than its entire previous history. Doctor Who? Atomic Bomber Beeching and his War on the Railways a 2013 anti-Beeching polemic study by journalist and MEP Richard Cottrell [paperback | ebook] When the 50th anniversary of Britain’s ‘Beeching Report’ passed recently, magazines TV and radio all marked the occasion with retrospectives on the man who took a hatchet to half the 4,000-odd stations, all the 5000 goods yards and 6,000 miles of Britain’s railways. Back in 1963, Dr. Richard Beeching ripped the heart out of the world’s first and greatest railway network, but not one of those articles or programs mentioned that Beeching had no qualifications whatever for what was an accountant’s job. His expertise was metallurgy and he’d just helped develop Britain’s first atomic bomb. Britain was the first country to industrialise and used her manufacturing muscle to become the great empire in the 19th century. It wasn’t just technology, like the invention of the steam engine, but a national policy of mass urbanisation, transferring labour from agriculture to armaments and industry that put Britain ahead of the world. Mass evictions of the peasantry, known as enclosures, kept the wheels turning in the factories, William Blake’s ‘Dark Satanic Mills’ were filled with hundreds of thousands of homeless men with hungry families to house and feed, desperate for money for rent and food. The wider empire was built on one particular invention, the railway. Moving coal, iron ore, wool and other raw materials as well as manufactured goods off the canals and uphill, down dale, cheaply and at speed gave Britain the edge as a massive shipbuilding program projected Queen Victoria’s power across the globe. Even as Britain’s influence waned between the wars and the deliberate retreat from empire post WWII to make way for the US empire, the railways underpinned everything, moving people, goods and services, wherever they were needed and with a minimum of cost or fuss. Across the Atlantic in the 1920s, though, people were about to be forced off the rails. Rockefellers’ Standard Oil Company teamed up with the Firestone Tire and Rubber Company, Mack Truck and General Motors automobile lobby to set up a bogus public transport firm National City Lines (NCL). Streetcar (tram) companies all over the US were taken over by NCL, which deliberately failed to maintain or replace worn out vehicles. With consecutive governments, particularly Tory Transport Secretary Ernest Marples – who owned road-building firm Marples Ridgeway – the industrial lobby got its way. Passenger travel on the railways would in future subsidize bulk freight transport. A top secret de-industrialization plan was in place too. In late 1967, British Rail printed a secret ‘Blue Book of Maps’ with details of coalmines, steelworks etc. and associated rail lines secretly earmarked for closure over succeeding decades. Britain’s devastating 1984/5 mine closure program and subsequent strike had been secretly anticipated by government and oil industry alike, decades before.
Train system disrupted around Greater Manchester after brief technical failure. Like Spanish power grid failures. Petro dollar crumbling? Rail passengers across Greater Manchester set for another day of train chaos after power failure Passengers have been warned to check before they travel tomorrow morning as disruption Rail passengers across Greater Manchester have been warned of another day of chaos on Friday after an electricity supply failure has caused major disruption. Train services first started facing ‘major disruption’ throughout on Thursday (August 6), with services across Greater Manchester cancelled and delayed. The issues are widespread and are currently affecting Avanti West Coast, CrossCountry, East Midlands Railway, London Northwestern Railway, Northern, TransPennine Express, Transport for Wales. An electricity supply failure at a communications centre is the cause of the disruption, National Rail has said. The outage occurred shortly before 2pm in Manchester and has impacted signalling, it added. In an update issued on Thursday evening, National Rail has warned that major disruption is now expected until the end of the day tomorrow. It said: “It is not yet known how services will run tomorrow, Friday 7 August. Please do check back. As soon as we have information, we will keep you updated. “Engineers are working hard to restore the issue and we are hopeful that train services will return to normal tomorrow. However, due to a number of trains being in the location, there will be some disruption to services on Friday morning. “Major disruption is expected until the end of the day on Friday 7 August.”
Curtis Yarvin, tech ‘entrepreneur’, on a patchwork system of governance – where unelected specialists run the show – accelerationism. The movement to ditch democracy in favour of start-up cities run by CEOs Dark Enlightenment founder Curtis Yarvin says equating democracy with ‘good government’ is wrong In 2008, the American software engineer Curtis Yarvin posted an online pamphlet, under his pen name Mencius Moldbug. It was entitled Patchwork: A Political System for the 21st Century. Mencius was the name of a Chinese Confucian philosopher (c 300 BCE) who held that people should have the power to overthrow an unjust ruler. The name is telling, given the tenor of his pamphlet. Like so much of the early blogosphere, it read like a diatribe about politics and what ails modern America, until it finally hit its punchline: “The basic idea of Patchwork,” wrote Yarvin/Moldbug, is that governments can and should be replaced by “a global spiderweb of tens, even hundreds, of thousands of sovereign mini-countries, each governed by its own joint-stock corporation without regard to the residents’ opinions.” In other words, democracy should be dumped. And in its place: corporate-run states would compete for citizens on the open market — and if those citizens were unhappy, they could simply pick up and move somewhere else. Think of it, Yarvin went on, “as a modified version of monarchy.” His philosophy was the basis for what he later called the Dark Enlightenment: an anti-democratic state ruled by a CEO-style leader or a monarch. The secret is out Soon Moldbug became popular in some circles, through a kind of hi-tech samizdat: the blogs were passed around among libertarians and anarchists, especially in Silicon Valley where tech leaders like Peter Thiel and Mark Andreessen took notice. The collective works of Mencius Moldbug evolved into a manifesto for disgruntled, mostly right-wing Americans fed up with Barack Obama and what they saw as the decline of the nation. The social justice warriors were in ascendance, and the alt-right was in the closet: Moldbug was their voice….
‘What’s The Monarchy For, Part 2′ – Charles’ untaxed billions. Dimbleby documentary – how Royals are tax exempt, and their great wealth. David Dimbleby: What’s The Monarchy For? 3parts Power Without Accountability (Dec25) Part 1: Secrecy Spin & Control Part 2: Tax Exemption & the Royal Slave Trade Part 3: Charles’ Adultery; Diana’s Death & PR Control Freaks BBC One What’s the Monarchy For? Series 1: Episode 2 Over the reign of Queen Elizabeth II, the Windsors amassed extraordinary private wealth without us really noticing. How did they do it? David Dimbleby shines a light on the secrets of royal money, revealing how Charles became the first billionaire to take the throne. From tax exemptions to lobbying government, we discover how Queen Elizabeth II oversaw the most lucrative change to royal funding in two centuries. David puts George Osborne in the hot seat to answer why the monarchy costs the taxpayer more than ever before and asks: is it worth the public cost? We all had a right to see Prince Charles’s letters. But not any more, it seems – by Rob Evans The latest set of letters, covering the period 2006 to 2009, shows the prince lobbying once again for pet causes. He wanted ministers to reverse spending cuts that were being lined up in homeopathic medicine, urged them to conduct a trial of complementary medicine in England, and demanded a say over the allocation of taxpayers’ money for community projects. Charles has long been accused of meddling in matters of government, but, aside from a few leaks, the public knew little of what he had actually been doing. He was alleged to be sending to ministers a stream of letters, dubbed the black spider memos because of his scrawly handwriting, but the public were not allowed to read them, or even know how many he was writing. And that ultimately what this long battle has been all about – to see what the heir to the throne has been telling ministers in private, and how those ministers have reacted. Some greeted the publication of the batch of letters with a shrug – and even a yawn, suggesting that they were tedious. Others were less convinced that it was appropriate for an unelected royal to be seeking to alter the official policies of government. Publication of the letters have helped the public to make up their own minds. In a democracy, the public should be able to see how policies are being made and altered, and who is influencing that process. However the tightening-up of the Freedom of Information Act brings to an end this brief glimpse into Charles’s lobbying. The shutters have come down, and the public will now be unable to find out, for instance, whether his letter-writing has waxed or waned as he gets closer to the throne. Ten years ago, he wanted Blair to bring in a badger cull, but the Labour government resisted the idea. More recently, David Cameron’s government has implemented a cull. Did Charles, for example, lobby Cameron and his ministers over this policy change? We don’t know, and – in the government’s eyes – have no right to know.
Robert Knowles, Fireman, investigated the Crystal Palace fire of 1936, and came to the conclusion it was arson. Crystal Palace – Accident or Arson ? By Robert H. Knowles The cause of the conflagration that destroyed the Sydenham Crystal Palace on 30th November 1936 has intrigued many people and has been the subject of many a debate since that fateful night. Here, aided by transcriptions of original documents and new interviews, along with fresh information and his well-researched account of events, the late Robert Knowles points us in new directions and gives us many fascinating new insights. His account will, nevertheless, leave us pondering… The following additional documents and reports were not available to Robert when he wrote his book. We all found the book captivating from start to finish, remembering all the research that went into it and the length of time he took to make sure he gathered all the information he could, he described the palace so well I could of been there, We relearnt the history all over again and could remember a few of the people he mention in the book, we never realised how good he actually was at writing. We are a very very proud family. Thank you very much for those memories. Family of Robert Knowles What, on the surface, could have been a relatively mundane investigation is transformed into an immensely readable book through the calm, straightforward approach of Robert H Knowles. In an almost Poirot-esque fashion he lays out the known facts, reports on the possible theories and investigates what could, or could not, be probable. The result is a fascinating collection of news, interviews and testimony that allows the reader to comprehend facts, without bulldozing an opinion. It must have taken many years of exhausting, extensive research to gather the information, but never is this about Knowles. Instead, his consistently humble approach shines light on the main players without judgement but with empathy and understanding of the place, the time and the circumstance. It’s a terrible shame that Knowles never got to see his work published. It’s a beautiful legacy from him and a must-read for anyone vaguely interested in the Crystal Palace or British society at the end of Empire. Alan Pottinger
The Holy War Behind The Headlines: Scott Ritter, on Mohsin Abbas’s Deep Dive podcast – prediction that Israel would be captured by Jews with extremist Zionist views coming from Eastern Block. Patricia Opulenza poem. Scott Ritter: Why Faith Decides Who Wins in the Middle East Deep Dive Perspective Why does religious faith decide who wins wars in the Middle East? Former Marine intelligence officer and UN weapons inspector Scott Ritter argues the “axis of resistance,” Israeli hardline politics, and US Christian Zionism are all shaped by deep, often overlooked religious conviction — and that Western policymakers consistently misread it. In this episode of Deep Dive Perspective, Scott Ritter draws on his own intelligence background preparing for a potential US-Iran conflict in the 1980s, explaining how Shia theology and the concept of martyrdom rooted in the Battle of Karbala shaped Iranian combat resilience. He traces how this same religious lens explains the rise of Hezbollah out of Amal’s resistance to Israeli occupation, and the complicated, more recent alignment between Iran and Yemen’s Ansarullah movement. Ritter also discusses what he describes as the growing influence of religious hardliners within Israeli politics and the eschatological beliefs of Christian Zionism within parts of the US administration, arguing both distort strategic decision-making around the region. He is critical of US policymakers and institutions for failing to understand the ideology of adversaries, and offers his own view on which strands of religious extremism — across multiple faiths — he considers most dangerous to regional stability…

February 2019 – Ofcom complaint result: UKLFI exposed as creation of Israeli foreign ministry – Bristol Post article: BCfm cleared after being reported to Ofcom for anti-semitic conspiracy theories – It could have resulted in BCfm radio station being shut down if the complaint was upheld Tony Gosling reported to Ofcom by UK Lawyers for Israel after being accused of anti-semitism A Bristol radio station, which had one of its programmes reported for anti-semitism and racism has been cleared by Ofcom. The radio regulatory body received a complaint from “UK Lawyers for Israel’ over a show on BCfm radio, hosted by investigative journalist Tony Gosling. The weekly politics show, on the popular community radio station based in Easton, was reported for several allegations on a show which aired on November 23. Tony Gosling, who was a former BBC journalist between 1989 and 1993, has been producing and presenting ‘The Tony Gosling Politics’ show every week on BCFM radio for 11 years. They have released a statement which reads: “Whilst we are supportive of all our volunteer presenters, The Tony Gosling Politics Show only represents approximately ten percent of our political output content wise, and less than two per cent of our entire weekly output.” Mr Gosling’s programme looks at local politics and he interviews a range of councillors and MPs in the city. The show is also perhaps more well known for its alternative look at international politics, and he has a cult following online from across the world. Mr Gosling has made regular appearances on national media including the politics show with Andrew Neil on BBC One, and international channels such as Russia Today, Channel1 Russia, NTV, and recently for both Turkish and Lebanon TV.
November 2012 – Tony gets death threats on the phone from the Jewish Defence League – ‘you’re a dead man walking’ – a man calls him and Tony records the call. Audio of UK Jewish Defence League (JDL) death threat against British journalist Tony Gosling (2012) – Avon and Somerset police Special Branch investigate, trace the caller, and after six months report to Tony that the individual has been served a caution that they will proceed with a prosecution for harassment under the 1861 offences against the person act. Seems pretty clear this death threat was issued alongside the lies, copied below, which were published on their blog by London based UK JDL in November 2012. Firstly Tony Gosling is not a ‘homophobe’. That accusation was first made in an article published by the ‘Harry’s Place’ blog, penned by Zionist David Toube and propelled by him anonymously into Private Eye in 2008. It refers to Gosling’s criticism of senior teachers at Bannerman Road Primary school in Bristol who used homosexual early learning picture books against the express wishes of the parent governors. His criticism was about the deception by teaching staff not because of the homosexual content of the books. Secondly, if you follow the JDL link you’ll find what Tony Gosling actually says about the ‘Protocols Of The Learned Elders Of Zion’ says “…I don’t think there is much doubt that the Protocols are fake…” Thirdly he is not a member of Bristol Palestine Solidarity Campaign and has never been to any of their meetings.
Autumn 2014 – Tony’s documentary production and distribution business shut down by its bank. Our thriving Co-op business bank account ordered closed for undisclosed reasons. Tony Gosling and Ben Edwards founded i-Contact Video Network to distribute documentaries on VHS video and DVD and to make their own documentaries as well as attend news events and sell video footage to TV news channels. Amongst the films we distributed were Operation Solstice, Coconut Revolution, Mark Purdey and Organophosphates, McLibel, 9/11 In Plane Site, Ludicrous Diversion and The Battle of Trafalgar. These, plus books, and even a board game about drug dealing ‘Dollars and Dibble’, were all available via mail order and we supplied libraries around the world too. The bank had clearly been ordered to investigate us for money laundering, although they never admitted it. All the questions they asked Ben and I were about proving our identity through passports etc.. When we did, yet more letters kept arriving demanding more proofs, birth certificates etc. and eventually when one of us missed supplying the required information, within a week or so of being asked, the account was summarily closed and we got a cheque made out to one of us with the few hundred pounds that was in the business bank account. Since neither of us could get a business bank account up and running for at least a few months and the bank account meant nobody could any longer use the website, we made the reluctant decision to shut it down. Thus was a thriving business killed off by the Co_operative bank. Having said that, co-op were not quite the worst. We did apply to open an account at Bristol’s ‘ethical’ Triodos bank, who proceeded to string us along for several months and then said our business was too risky for them to provide an account!
