Second hour Investigative reports: Coronavirus biological ‘protection’ labs in Wuhan, in China, – Virus-hit Wuhan has two laboratories linked to Chinese bio-warfare program – Virology institute there has China’s only secure lab for studying deadly viruses – In addition to the coronavirus, China has been grappling with an outbreak of African swine fever that has decimated the country’s pig population over the past two years. Pork is China’s main source of protein, and swine fever last year pushed overall consumer inflation to the highest level in eight years. Hunan province, where the avian influenza outbreak announced on Saturday took place, neighbors Hubei province, the epicenter of the coronavirus outbreak. – 

Shocking historical UK biowarfare tests on an unwitting British public – The Ministry of Defence turned large parts of the country into a giant laboratory to conduct a series of secret germ warfare tests on the public.  A government report just released provides for the first time a comprehensive official history of Britain’s biological weapons trials between 1940 and 1979. Many of these tests involved releasing potentially dangerous chemicals and micro-organisms over vast swaths of the population without the public being told. – For decades, the dozens of biological warfare trials conducted off the Devon coastline remained top secret. Behind closed doors it was agreed that parts of the county – including Plymouth – could become a testing ground as scientists tried to discover how clouds of bacteria would spread if released towards Britain. In 1997, former Teignbridge MP Patrick Nicholls told a special Commons debate families in the Dorset area had unexplained illnesses and birth defects they believed were linked to the experiments, designed to help scientists counter the threat of Soviet biological warfare. Mr Nicholls said: “During the 1960s and 70s germ warfare tests were carried out off the Westcountry coast by the Defence Evaluation and Research Agency. – During the Cold War, the British Government used the general public as unwitting biological and chemical warfare guinea pigs on a much greater scale than previously thought, according to new historical research. – In more than 750 secret operations, hundreds of thousands of ordinary Britons were subjected to ‘mock’ biological and chemical warfare attacks launched from aircraft, ships and road vehicles. –
