Labour not defending workers, says UNITE after expelling Rayner The leader of the Unite union says Labour is not defending working people and they are turning away from the party “in droves”. Sharon Graham said Labour should be “seriously concerned” after the union voted to potentially rethink its relationship with the party, which could result in it formally cutting ties and funding. It comes after Unite said it had suspended the membership of Deputy Prime Minister Angela Rayner over her handling of bin strikes in Birmingham. A Labour source said Rayner quit Unite in April and defended her action on workers’ rights. A party spokesperson said the Labour government was responsible for the “biggest upgrade in workers’ rights in a generation”. Delegates at Unite’s policy conference voted to rethink their relationship with Labour should any of its members be made redundant in the course of the long-running bin strike. The vote also saw the union decide to suspend Rayner over her role in the strikes. The deputy prime minister has urged workers to accept a deal tabled by Birmingham’s Labour-run city council to end the dispute, saying the authority had “moved significantly to meet the demands of the workers”. Speaking on BBC Radio 4’s Today programme on Saturday, Unite’s general secretary said Unite members “don’t believe that Labour defends workers in the way we thought they would”. Rayner was attempting a “Houdini act” by focusing on “whether she wasn’t or was a member at this juncture,” she said, and Labour should instead be asking where it was “going wrong”. Ms Graham said its members reflected “what everyday people are saying” about the government. “I have real difficulty in the way that Labour are making decisions,” she said, “in terms of what they tried to do on winter fuel, what they tried to do to people with disabilities, what they’re doing to workers”. The government faced major political pressure over its planned cuts to winter fuel payments and welfare, including from the left of the Labour party – which were subsequently reversed and significantly watered-down.

Palestine Action support. 29 arrests after protest in support of Palestine Action, police say Twenty-nine people have been arrested in London after police said they were responding to a protest in support of the banned group Palestine Action. The Metropolitan Police said those arrested were being held on suspicion of offences under the Terrorism Act 2000 and had been taken into custody. Pictures from the Westminster demonstration showed a small group holding placards reading “I oppose genocide, I support Palestine Action”. As of Saturday, the group is proscribed under the Terrorism Act 2000, after lawyers acting on its behalf failed with a court bid to block the ban on Friday. The designation means being a member of, or showing support for Palestine Action, is a criminal offence and could lead to up to 14 years in prison. In an earlier statement, the Met said: “Officers are responding to a protest in support of Palestine Action in Parliament Square. “The group is now proscribed and expressing support for them is a criminal offence.” Police made arrests on Saturday at protests in support of the proscribed group Protesters holding home-made, cardboard placards gathered near the Mahatma Gandhi statue in Parliament Square on Saturday. Pictures emerged showing police surrounding the group and detaining people, with one woman seen being taken away in handcuffs by officers. The protest group Defend Our Juries wrote to Met Police commissioner Mark Rowley on Friday to inform the force a demonstration where placards expressing support of Palestine Action would be displayed was to go ahead on Saturday. In a statement released after the arrests, the group said: “It’s a relief to know that Counter Terrorism police have nothing better to do.” The government moved to ban Palestine Action after an estimated £7m of damage was caused to planes at RAF Brize Norton last month during a protest the group said it was behind. Home Secretary Yvette Cooper announced plans to proscribe the group last month, calling damage to two military aircraft “disgraceful” and claiming the group had a “long history of unacceptable criminal damage”. Defend Our Juries warned the Met police of protests taking place on Saturday Palestine Action has engaged in activities that have predominantly targeted arms companies since the start of the current war in Gaza. The group’s ban came into effect on Saturday after High Court judge Mr Justice Chamberlain refused its request to temporarily block the move, saying the claim was “insufficient to outweigh the strong public interest in maintaining the order in force”. Raza Husain KC, barrister for Palestine Action’s co-founder Huda Ammori, who brought the complaint, told the court banning the group would be “ill-considered” and an “authoritarian abuse” of power.

Kier Starmer’s Labour government has lowest ever approval rating. Keir Starmer’s Government Sinks To Its Lowest Ever Approval Rating After A Year In Power Keir Starmer’s government has hit its lowest ever approval rating with the public, according to a damning new poll. The YouGov survey, carried out to mark Labour’s first year in power, found that just 13% of voters are happy with the party’s performance. By contrast, 67% of the public say they disapprove of how the government is doing. That gives Starmer’s administration an approval rating of minus 54 – the joint worst figure it has had. The findings are yet another blow for the prime minister after a separate poll by the More in Common think-tank found that 63% of the public think he does not respect them. Policies like the decision to remove winter fuel payments from 10 million pensioners have led to Labour’s popularity plummeting in the 12 months since Starmer’s landslide general election victory. The PM has also performed a series of high-profile U-turns, including his decision to water down planned cuts to the welfare bill, which have severely damaged his authority. He is now facing calls to impose a wealth tax on the super-rich as a way for chancellor Rachel Reeves to balance the books. Figures released today by the independent Budget for Office Responsibility showed the extent of the challenge Reeves faces as she prepares for the Budget in the autumn. They said that Starmer’s welfare climbdown, plus his U-turn on the winter fuel cuts, have contributed to government debt continuing to rise. The OBR warned that the debt is projected to be “above 270% of GDP (gross domestic product) by the early 2070s”. Recent rises in debts have led to “a substantial erosion of the UK’s capacity to respond to future shocks and growing pressures on the public finances,” the OBR said.

Kemi Badenoch says fake Conservatives should quit her party in wake of Reform defections The Tory leader responded to the latest defection to Reform UK by accusing people of acting as if they were in a ‘banana republic’ Kemi Badenoch has hit back after the defection of former Tory party chairman Sir Jake Berry to Reform, saying people who are not real Conservatives should quit and join parties that match their values. The Conservative leader took aim at people who have been “holding us back for a long time” and said that anyone who wants higher taxes and more welfare spending is “welcome” to head for the exit door. Mrs Badenoch branded the Conservatives the “only party that wants to live within its means” in a speech less than 24 hours since Sir Jake announced he was joining Reform. She claimed the country would be in a “much worse” state if Reform had been in power during the pandemic and accused Reform leader Nigel Farage of “telling people whatever it is they want to hear”. She said Reform posed as a Right-wing party but claimed it would be an ally to Labour MPs who want to force Sir Keir Starmer to axe the two-child benefit cap. Her speech at the Centre for Social Justice came just days after it was confirmed former Welsh Secretary and Brexit minister David Jones had joined Reform. Former Tory MP Anne Marie Morris has also joined Mr Farage’s party, and Andrea Jenkyns – a former stalwart of the Tories’ European Research Group – is now Reform’s Mayor of Greater Lincolnshire. Mrs Badenoch accused defectors of acting as if Britain was a “banana republic” and insisted the Conservatives would come up with a “credible” plan for Government ahead of the next election. She said: “[The] Conservative party is the only party that wants to live within its means. And if there are people who want more welfare and higher taxes and more spend, they are very welcome to go to those parties that are offering that. “But we are the Conservative party. And if there are people who are not Conservatives, people who have probably been holding us back for a long time, then they should go to other parties that fit in with their values.” Reform UK says Nigel Farage is PM in waiting after new poll boost Tory ‘opposition’ leader Kemi Badenoch agrees with Labour party, blazes at ‘immoral’ cost of benefits bill as UK braces for taxes…. “And the Prime Minister has already signalled that he is open to removing the two-child benefit cap. In fact, right at this moment there are probably Labour MPs behind closed doors drawing up plans to force his hand. And they will find allies in Reform. “Nigel Farage has committed to remove the cap and he is warning that he is not finished yet on benefits giveaways. Make no mistake – he is Jeremy Corbyn with a pint and a cigarette.

Neil Goodwin has been protesting against fascism for many years as Charlie Chaplin’s character in his film The Great Dictator – protesting now he is disabled. Palestine Action – protests against them being proscribed a terrorist organisation. Neil Goodwin, a disabled activist, was arrested at Downing Street yesterday evening, dressed as Charlie Chaplin in ‘The Great Dictator’, at the protest against the government’s outrageous decision to proscribe the direct action group Palestine Action as a terrorist organization, which passed by 385 votes to 26. The soundtrack to this short clip is an excerpt from Chaplin’s final speech as ‘The Great Dictator’ in the 1941 film. Neil Goodwin talks about his lifetime of film-making and activism and his youtube channel. A year after the Beanfield, during the summer of 1986, the Wltshire and Hampshire police once again launched a huge operation to try and prevent people from reaching Stonehenge for the Solstice sunrise. This was the year when the remains of the Peace Convoy was decommissioned during Operation Daybreak at a place called Stoney Cross. It was also the year when hundreds of festival goers tried in vain to get past a massive and expensive police exclusion zone covering a huge area around the stones. This is a South on Two documentary about the extraordinary cat and mouse game that was played out that year (and subsequent years) in the usually quiet country lanes around Wiltshire. The Battle of the Beanfield took place over several hours on the afternoon of Saturday 1 June 1985 when Wiltshire Police prevented a vehicle convoy of several hundred new age travellers, known as “The Convoy” and referred to in the media as the “Peace Convoy” from setting up at the 11th Stonehenge Free Festival at Stonehenge in Wiltshire, England “Basically the police were extremely violent and beat up men and women with children.” The whole reason that the government was so eager to stop the festival was the law which stated that “after 12 years of gathering in the same place of celebration a national event automatically came into being” and as a national event they would have been unable to prevent it from occurring again in the future”

SUMMARY INJUSTICE? NO MORE UK ‘TRIAL BY JURY’ GUARANTEE? Jury free trials may save judicial system from collapse. Defend Our Juries group. Espionage Act and jury. Jury-free trials recommended to save courts from ‘collapse’ Thousands of cases that would normally be heard in front of a jury should be decided by judges alone, according to recommendations made by a former senior judge. Sir Brian Leveson was asked by the Lord Chancellor to come up with a series of proposals to reduce the backlog of cases in the criminal courts. There are almost 77,000 cases waiting for trial in the Crown Court in England and Wales – meaning some defendants and victims are waiting years for justice. After reviewing the state of the criminal courts, Sir Brian suggested “fundamental” reforms to “reduce the risk of total system collapse”. But some barristers argue juries are essential for fair justice – and scrapping them is wrong. To fix what he calls a broken system, Sir Brian has suggested having judge-only trials for certain cases such as fraud and bribery. Another recommendation involves having more out of court resolutions like cautions. Manisha Knights, Solicitor Advocate with MK Law, said: “Our jury system is central and pivotal to our justice system. “With juries comes diversity whereas the judiciary still very much lacks it. The right to be tried by one’s peers should not be removed or be diluted in any way, shape or form.” The English and Welsh legal system is widely regarded as one of the best and most independent in the world, with the first known English jury trial dating from the 1200s. Not all countries commonly use juries, however – for example Germany has no juries while France reserves them for the most serious cases. Non-jury trials have been used in Northern Ireland since 1973 to prevent jury intimidation or bias in terrorism prosecutions. At the height of the Troubles, more than 300 cases a year were tried by a judge sitting alone but in 2023 there were just 12 non-jury trials.

They were set up in the spirit of mutual aid and solidarity to support autonomous social struggles within the UK. GBC was founded in November 2010 to provide legal support for protests against the government’s wave of massive spending cuts. We take inspiration from the Anarchist Black Cross and from the diverse skills and infrastructure built up over the last decade by elements of the environmental movement, such as The Camp for Climate Action (Climate Camp). We have supported thousands of people from many backgrounds in their rebellions and protests – from a 24/7 Legal Support Helpline to Legal Observers on the streets, and from Action Medics at large demos to a kitchen team smuggling flapjacks to students surrounded by police. Our emphasis on support is to allow the potential for further dissent – for people to rise up, and in doing so take control of the direction of their lives. The structure and role of GBC has changed throughout its history. Today, GBC is formed of two autonomous collectives: the Training Collective and the Resources Collective. The Training Collective creates and delivers legal trainings for protesters and protest support, whilst the Resources Collective creates, updates and maintains resources. These collectives work alongside other independent and autonomous legal support groups: the Independent Legal Observer Network (ILON), the Phone Helpline, Activist Court Aid Brigade (ACAB) and the Network for Police Monitoring (Netpol). GBC is mostly based in London, and there is a GBC group in Manchester. The GBC Training and Resources Collectives are entirely run by volunteers – we do this because we are also part of the struggle, not because it is our job.

IRA bombs and coded warnings. The 1990s. The Provisional IRA continued its attacks in England during the 1990s, carrying out more than 20 bombings or sabotage operations.  The explosion of a truck bomb outside the Baltic Exchange in London in April 1992 killed three people, including a 15-year-old girl. Two young boys were killed by IRA bombs in a Warrington street in March 1993, an event that inspired the Cranberries song Zombie. The following month IRA agents detonated a one-tonne ammonium nitrate bomb, concealed in a tipper truck, in Bishopsgate, London’s financial precinct; this blast killed one person and caused more than £300 in property damage. The Provisional IRA declared a ceasefire in August 1994 but restarted hostilities 18 months later, following Sinn Fein’s expulsion from ongoing peace talks. In February 1996 two civilians died when another IRA truck bomb exploded at Canary Wharf, a financial hub in London’s Docklands. The IRA detonated another truck bomb in Manchester’s Corporation Street in June 1996. The Docklands and Manchester bombs contained up to 1,500 kilograms of explosives. In both cases advance phone warnings allowed police to clear the area and minimise casualties and only one person was killed. The damage to property was enormous, however. Several buildings were utterly destroyed and the cleanup and restoration bill from the two 1996 truck bombs would approach £1 billion.

The Reverend Sue Parfitt, from Bristol, was detained for holding a placard on Saturday that read: “I oppose genocide. I support Palestine Action.” She was among 29 people arrested on Saturday for acts of defiance against the proscription. In an interview with the BBC on Sunday, Met commissioner Mark Rowley was asked whether the arrest of Parfitt was a good use of police time. “The law doesn’t have an age limit, whether you’re 18 or 80,” he replied. “If you’re supporting proscribed organisations, then the law is going to be enforced. Officers, you could see, did it with great care and tried to preserve that person’s dignity, but they’re breaking a serious law.” Parfitt’s arrest has sparked widespread outrage on social media. One user called it “the march of authoritarianism & crackdown on freedom of speech & expression,” while another questioned whether it was now illegal to call her “a hero”. Paul Powlesland, a barrister and campaigner, posted on social media that, the “last time I checked, burglary, bike theft, class A drug dealing & phone robbery were also against the law, but the Met Police have largely given up enforcing these laws.” Powlesland said that while the cases against Palestine activists would probably be investigated at police offices in Barking, east London, officers had told him they “do not have the resources” to protect working-class communities in that neighbourhood.

Labelling direct action as an act of terror criminalises dissent, chills speech and redefines nuisance as extremism under the banner of national security The UK government’s intention to proscribe Palestine Action under the Terrorism Act 2000 marks a significant escalation in the treatment of civil disobedience. It elevates a group known for throwing red paint at buildings and military aircraft into the same legal category as al-Qaida and Islamic State. If there’s a serious threat from these activists, we’ve yet to see it – just a ministerial statement discussing civil disobedience in the language of counterinsurgency. If this is all that Palestine Action can be accused of, then the government is wrong. Ministers are setting a dangerous precedent by using terror laws to outlaw protest – and penalising protesters not for violence but for making a nuisance and vandalism. The cost will be felt in press freedom, political accountability and the right to resist. The home secretary’s statement says that Palestine Action’s activities “meet the threshold” for terrorism under the law, yet fails to specify how the group’s actions – which consist primarily of damage to property, not threats to life – satisfy the statutory requirement of intending to influence the government or intimidate the public through serious violence or threats. If this passes, the threshold of terrorism will have been lowered from plotting to plant bombs or take hostages to daubing aircraft or chaining oneself to doors – activities once associated with anti-nuclear and anti-apartheid activists. Palestine Action has, since 2020, mounted a campaign of direct action targeting firms supplying weapons to Israel, most notably Elbit Systems. Their tactics include criminal damage, trespass and disruption. To go from these offences to terrorism is morally fraught. But that has not deterred Labour ministers. Contained in terror laws is a logic that George Orwell would have recognised: where danger lies not just in bombs or bullets, but in words, connections and ideas. Proscription criminalises not just action but association. It becomes an offence to support, affiliate with or even express “moral support” for the group. If Palestine Action are deemed terrorists, then writers and journalists offering even mild approval could be prosecuted and imprisoned for up to 14 years….

UK re-establishes relations with Syria after 14 years David Lammy was pictured shaking hands with the new president as he advocated for a ‘stable, more secure and prosperous’ Syria The UK has fully re-established relations with Syria 14 years after severing ties with the former government of Bashar al-Assad. Foreign Secretary David Lammy was photographed shaking hands with the country’s new leader Ahmed al-Sharaa in Damascus. “The UK is re-establishing diplomatic relations because it is in our interests to support the new government to deliver their commitment to build a stable, more secure and prosperous future for all Syrians,” Lammy said in a statement. Photos released by Sharaa’s office also showed Lammy meeting Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad al-Shaibani. The presidency said they discussed “bilateral ties… and ways of strengthening cooperation, as well as regional and international developments”. Lammy said the UK wanted to back a stable Syria as a means of “reducing the risk of irregular migration, ensuring the destruction of chemical weapons” and “tackling the threat of terrorism”. The British Foreign Office said the UK had also committed an extra $129m to provide “urgent humanitarian aid” and support Syria’s reconstruction and countries hosting Syrian refugees. In December, after a brutal 14-year civil war, Sharaa’s rebel forces, who had been in control of Idlib, toppled Damascus, ending the Assad dynasty. Assad fled with his family to Moscow. Sharaa was previously head of Syria’s al-Qaeda affiliate and its successor organisation Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS). HTS remains listed on the UK’s proscribed organisations list as an “alternative name” for al-Qaeda, though the group was officially dissolved in January.

I’ve walked through the corridors of powers. I’ve met with Ayatam and I prior to doing that and becoming this pro-resistance journalist, she was employed by Israeli intelligence agency Wikistrat. The co-founder of Wikistrat and CEO is Elad Schaffer who was head of an intelligence desk at an Israeli government agency. The other co-founder of Wikistrat is Joel Zaml who founded the SAI group organization which the New Yorker described as a private MOSAD. after becoming an anti-imperialist journalist and as she called it infiltrating Iran. It took me a long time. It’s not it didn’t happen in just a year. It took me many many many years of hard work to try to get as close as I could. Um and I got pretty pretty close and I was very careful never to ask too many questions. So it was just more the case of observing and trying to gather information. She came back to the UK and somehow began work for Israel lobby groups like the Henry Jackson Society and now we Believe in Israel where she currently leads the campaign to prescribe Palestine Action

Husain countered that when the legislation was passed through parliament, the then Secretary of State had given a categorical assurance the power of proscription would never be used against domestic direct action groups. Yet here we are. Judge Chamberlain responded that to reverse the proscription on the grounds Husain proposed, he would have to demonstrate that it led to an absurdity, citing another case (Hunt). Husain replied, “It is absurd. It is absurd to pronounce a non-violent group terrorist.” Judge Chamberlain said that what counted was whether if fitted the statutory definition of terrorism, not “some colloquial definition of terrorism”. Husain said the statute specified that terrorism was designed to induce a climate of fear, influence the government or intimidate the public. None of these applied to Palestine Action. Judge Chamberlain asked what was the purpose of the attack on RAF Brize Norton if not to influence the government? Palestine Action’s own submissions claim that Brize Norton supplies RAF Akrotiri which is supporting the Genocide. Husain said that one isolated or sporadic incident did not define the purpose of the organisation, which was to disrupt Elbit and the arms industry. Palestine Action has a non-hierarchical nature. Ascribing responsibility for individual actions was complex. Judge Chamberlain stated that in December 2024 the UK government had suspended arms licenses to Israel. Could it not be inferred that Palestine Action was attempting to attain this end? Hussain replied that was not the design of the organisation. It is designed to disrupt the arms supply chain. The decision had therefore been taken before the Brize Norton incident. Judge Chamberlain asked why it would be unlawful to take into account the views of the state of Israel? At this point Raza Husain dropped his papers and stared at Judge Chamberlain in incredulity. “Israel to interfere? In our criminal law? In our domestic process?” Chamberlain responded that the government took a range of views into account. Why should it be unlawful to listen to Israel? Husain replied that interference by another state in domestic criminal matters was unconstitutional. Chamberlain stated that there was nothing in the legislation that precludes taking Israel’s views into account. Husain again asked incredulously, “To decide if it is terrorism?” Chamberlain responded, “They are the victims. They suffered criminal damage.” Husain said that does not go to the definition of terrorism. Chamberlain countered they could evidence the seriousness of the damage. Husain said he returned to the international definition underlined by Ben Saul. The damage to property had to go to the level of endangering nuclear installations or civil aviation. We were not in that territory. Husain continued that while both Israel and Elbit were consulted on the decision to proscribe, no pro-Palestinian group had been consulted. Judge Chamberlain replied that the statutory basis may preclude any common-law right to due process. The Secretary of State had stated that pro-Palestinian groups could not be consulted, because in effect that would give Palestine Action 21 days’ notice of proscription, in which period it might take pre-emptive action.

Mark had been talking to dazed and injured passengers as they emerged from the smoke and chaos below and listening back to the Guardian’s first report of the day is unsettling. Despite the official story of Mohammad Sidique Khan blowing himself up in the carriage, Honigsbaum says ‘We believe there was an explosion this morning under the carriage of a train’. ‘The tiles, the covers on the floor suddenly flew up, raised up,’ he went on, derailing the Metropolitan Line carriages into the path of an oncominng train. A former officer in Israel’s SAS, the Sayeret Matkal, Finance Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was due to be arriving at a Great Eastern Hotel conference just as Shehzad Tanweer’s Liverpool Street tube bomb was going off below the hotel. Netanyahu was reported that morning by Amy Teibel on Associated Press’ Jerusalem Desk to have ‘changed plans due to a warning’ from Scotland Yard, and thankfully Bibi had not left his hotel. The Israeli embassy have since denied having any warning but Israeli government Press Officer Dan Sheham told journalists, including the Scottish Sunday Herald’s foreign affairs editor David Pratt, embassy security was ‘beefed up’ around 7am that day. The four simultaneous bombs, three on tube trains and one on a bus were supposed to have been a surprise attack.

An Israeli firm also had access to London’s tube tunnels, winning a CCTV contract when parts of the Underground were privatised a few months before the attacks. Verint Systems looked like a good bet but someone didn’t do due diligence because the fraudster chairman Kobi Alexander, of Verint’s parent company, Comverse Technologies, was on the run. He was evading the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) somewhere in Africa after disappearing with $13m of company money. Leeds based alleged bombers Mohammad Sidique Khan and Shehzad Tanweer were both trustees of the Iqra bookshop in Bude Street, Beeston. The shop was managed day-to-day by former Royal Navy SBS special forces soldier Martin McDaid who ran a terror training camp in the Lake District in his spare time. Speaking on the BBC’s Newsnight programmed Iqra youth worker Mark Hargreaves, said McDaid had a hidden agenda in grooming young Muslim men to be terrorists. But Hargreaves was not the only person at Iqra who had suspicions about McDaid’s terror training: years before the bombings Leeds anti-war campaigner and computer expert Martin Gilbertson says he handed a ‘dossier of evidence’ to West Yorkshire police detailing his suspicions about Khan and Tanweer and giving police and MI5 two years notice the pair might be dangerous. Pressed in 2006 West Yorkshire police force don’t just say they lost the documents. They deny ever having received them. These four anomalies are just a handful from a litany of fragmented evidence which provides an alternative narrative to the Blair government tale of four ‘lone nutters’ being behind 7/7, hell bent on vengeance for Afghanistan and Iraq. Irish journalist Hugh O’Shaughnessy quotes convicted terrorist who worked for the Italian State Vincenzo Vinciguerra: ‘The political logic that lies behind all the massacres and the bombings which remain unpunished: because the State cannot convict itself or declare itself responsible for what happened.’ After a 1972 bomb killed three Italian police officers, police commanders ‘foiled a thorough investigation of the Peteano affair for years,’ he claims. ‘It was more convenient to cover it up than to turn on those who killed their comrades.’ The ‘False Flag’ attack is where corrupt powers murder their own people and blame an enemy to create a ‘causus beli’ for intervention abroad or destroying civil liberties at home. Evidence that the 7/7 London Bombings were a false flag attack, to get the nation to back foreign invasions in the Middle East has been studiously ignored by government, media and judiciary alike. The term ‘False Flag’ comes from naval warfare where a rival flag is raised on a warship causing the enemy to drop their guard and allowing the unscrupulous captain to creep close in for a surprise attack. TARTAGLIONE, who is a former police officer, orchestrated the kidnapping and murders of all four victims on April 11, 2016. TARTAGLIONE was sentenced today by U.S. District Judge Kenneth M. Karas. U.S. Attorney Damian Williams said: “Nicholas Tartaglione brutally and senselessly murdered Martin Luna over money, and then ruthlessly executed Urbano Santiago, Miguel Luna, and Hector Gutierrez simply because they were in the wrong place at the wrong time. He tried to cover up his crimes by burying all four victims in a shallow grave on his property. Thanks to the tireless efforts of countless law enforcement officers at the federal, state, and local level, and the relentless pursuit of justice by the career prosecutors in my Office, Tartaglione has now been held accountable for his reprehensible crimes. Today’s sentence of four consecutive life terms justly reflects the pain and suffering each victim underwent at Tartaglione’s hands. I hope that this outcome brings some measure of closure to the victims’ families and to their community.”

According to the allegations contained in the Indictment, the evidence offered at trial, statements made in open court, and matters included in public filings: On April 11, 2016, NICHOLAS TARTAGLIONE, a former police officer, orchestrated the kidnapping and murders of Martin Luna, Urbano Santiago, Miguel Luna, and Hector Gutierrez. Martin was 41 years old when he died. Urbano was Martin’s nephew by marriage and was 35 years old when he died. Miguel was Martin’s nephew and was 25 years old when he died. Hector was a close family friend of all three and was 43 years old when he died. All four victims left behind a loving family, and many of their family members attended the trial in this case. Martin was killed because TARTAGLIONE believed Martin had stolen approximately $250,000 meant for the purchase of cocaine. TARTAGLIONE tortured Martin by restraining him and beating him for over an hour, but when Martin did not provide the location of the missing money, TARTAGLIONE strangled Martin to death with a zip-tie. Urbano, Miguel, and Hector were killed — each with a single gunshot to the back of the head, execution style — because they witnessed Martin’s murder and were in the wrong place at the wrong time. TARTAGLIONE buried all four victims in a mass grave on his remote property in Otisville, New York. The four victims remained in the ground until the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s (“FBI”) Hudson Valley Safe Streets Task Force located the grave in December 2016. At today’s sentencing, Judge Karas described TARTAGLIONE as a “monster” who has shown no remorse for his conduct. TARTAGLIONE, 56, of Otisville, New York, was found guilty of 11 counts of murder, four counts of kidnapping resulting in death, one count of kidnapping conspiracy, and one count of narcotics conspiracy. Mr. Williams praised the outstanding investigative work of the FBI, the New York State Police, and the Village of Chester Police Department. Mr. Williams also thanked the City of Middletown Police Department and the Houston, Texas Police Department for their assistance in the case. This prosecution is part of an Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (“OCDETF”) operation. OCDETF identifies, disrupts, and dismantles criminal organizations using a prosecutor-led, intelligence-driven, multi-agency approach. And so it’s not that the Dutch are their enemy, and of course, they have a good relationship with us, so it’s not that we’re their enemy. This isn’t they’re they’re not worried about, oh, at some point, the Dutch in The United States will betray them. They’re they’re worried about what happens if something happens to The Netherlands. Don Aitken, from the Festival Welfare Services, delivers a short history of the People’s Free Festival,, from Windsor to Stonehenge, delving inside the police’s mindset prior to and during the Beanfield in 1985, the UK’s drift into becoming a police state, and police inconsistencies during The Beanfield trial in 1990/91. Part of the ‘Operation Solstice’ video archive, most of it unseen, released in time for the 40th Anniversary of The Beanfield on June 1 2025. The Windsor Free Festival was a British free festival held in Windsor Great Park from 1972 to 1974. Organised by some London commune dwellers, notably Ubi Dwyer and Sid Rawle, it was in many ways the forerunner of the Stonehenge Free Festival, particularly in the brutality of its final suppression by the police, which led to a public outcry about the tactics involved. The first Festival in 1972 was promoted as “Rent Strike: The People’s Free Festival”, reflecting the political concerns of the organisers (coming as they did from squatting and commune movements), with an anti-monarchist choice of site in “the Queen’s back garden”. Attendance was about 700 in its first year, rising to 8,000 in 1973, and an even larger crowd in its final year. The 1974 Festival, due to last for ten days, was broken up on the sixth morning by a large number of police. Early on Wednesday 28 August 1974 the site was invaded by hundreds of officers from the Thames Valley police force with truncheons drawn, who gave the remaining participants ten minutes to leave. Those who did not were arrested or evicted with a level of force that led seven national newspapers to call for an inquiry, and Roy Jenkins, the Home Secretary, to call for a report from the Thames Valley Chief Constable. Nicholas Albery, playwright Heathcote Williams and his partner Diana Senior successfully sued David Holdsworth, the Thames Valley Chief Constable for creating a riotous situation in which the police attacked the plaintiffs.[2] In 1975 both Ubi Dwyer and Sid Rawle were imprisoned, for attempting to promote a 1975 Windsor Festival. A further attempt to return to Windsor in 1978 led to another arrest for Dwyer. The government provided an abandoned airfield at Watchfield in 1975, in response to the public outrage, and as a means of moving the festival away from Royal castles.

The health secretary said the chanting should not have been broadcast to those watching at home, highlighting that Israelis at a similar music festival were kidnapped, murdered and raped. “I thought it’s appalling, to be honest, and I think the BBC and Glastonbury have got questions to answer about how we saw such a spectacle on our screens,” he told Sunday Morning with Trevor Phillips on Sky News. “But I also think it’s a pretty shameless publicity stunt, which I don’t really want to give too much indulgence to for that reason.” He also had strong words for Israel, which has condemned the chanting. Streeting said what people should be talking about in the context of Israel and Gaza is the humanitarian catastrophe in the territory and the fact that Israeli settlers attacked a Christian village in the West Bank this week.

Blaise Metreweli was appointed earlier this month as the first female spy chief in the Secret Intelligence Service’s 116-year history. According to an archive of documents reported by the Daily Mail, her grandfather, Constantine Dobrowolski, was a Nazi collaborator who boasted of killing Jews. Dobrowolski, who was Ukrainian, defected from the Red Army to become Adolf Hitler’s chief informant in the Chernihiv region, the newspaper reported. Ms Metreweli, 47, never met her grandfather. He stayed in Nazi-occupied Ukraine when his family fled the Red Army’s liberation of the region in 1943. Documents uncovered in a German archive reportedly show that Dobrowolski was known as ‘Agent No 30’ by the Nazis. At one point the Soviet Union put a bounty on Dobrowolski of 50,000 roubles – worth about £200,000 now – and called him “the worst enemy of the Ukrainian people”. According to the newspaper, Dobrowolski wanted revenge on Russia for killing his family and seizing their estate in the revolution of 1917. One file reportedly contains a handwritten letter from Dobrowolski to his Nazi superiors signed: “Heil Hitler”. In another, he boasts of “personally” taking part “in the extermination of the Jews” and killing hundreds of Ukrainian soldiers. Ms Metreweli grew up abroad before studying anthropology at Cambridge, where she was in the winning crew in the 1997 Boat Race. She joined MI6 in 1999 and served the agency in Europe and the Middle East for two decades. Ms Metreweli currently holds the position of “Q”, the head of the service’s technical branch, made famous by the James Bond films.

Decapitation strikes.  MI6 Agent Allegedly Infiltrated IAEA to Shape Iran Sanctions Strategy, Report Claims Vienna, July 3, 2025 (Agencies) — A veteran British intelligence officer allegedly operated within the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) to influence global sanctions policy against Iran, according to a report by investigative outlet The Grayzone, citing leaked documents from a UK intelligence-linked entity known as Torchlight. The operative, identified as Nicholas Langman, is said to have played a pivotal role in coordinating Western sanctions during his tenure at the UK Foreign Office’s Counter-Proliferation Centre between 2010 and 2012. His resume, reportedly found among the leaked files, claims he led inter-agency teams to counter the spread of weapons of mass destruction and provided strategic support to both the IAEA and the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW). Langman also allegedly facilitated diplomatic coordination with senior officials across the US, Europe, and the Middle East, contributing to what he described as the “major diplomatic success” of the Iran nuclear sanctions framework. The revelations come amid heightened scrutiny of the IAEA’s impartiality. Iranian officials have long accused the agency of leaking sensitive data to adversaries. Tensions escalated last month when Israeli and US forces launched coordinated strikes on Iranian nuclear scientists and facilities, reportedly using intelligence linked to IAEA monitoring. Iran has since suspended cooperation with the agency, barred Director General Rafael Grossi from entering the country, and halted routine inspections. The IAEA’s June 12 report accused Iran of violating the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT), though no direct evidence of a weapons program was presented. The following day, Israel initiated its strikes, triggering a 12-day conflict that ended in a US-brokered ceasefire. Russia has also condemned the IAEA’s role, with Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova stating that agency data was used to plan the attacks, calling it a “colossal blow” to the watchdog’s credibility. The IAEA has not yet responded to the allegations. If substantiated, the claims could further erode trust in the agency’s neutrality and complicate future diplomatic efforts surrounding Iran’s nuclear program.

Banning Palestine Action: How the UK Government is Silencing Dissent The proscription of Palestine Action will come into effect on Saturday unless the High Court issues a temporary block on the order today. On Wednesday, MPs voted for the direct action group to be classified as a terrrorist organisation meaning that it will be a criminal offence to be a member of the group and “to invite or recklessly express support for them”. Both of these can be punished by up to 14 years in prison. This decision has huge implications, not only for those who support Palestine Action’s objectives, but for everyone in the UK who wants to view and engage with content about Palestine online. It marks a dangerous escalation in the criminalisation of political dissent in the UK and represents an increase in the UK’s architecture of surveillance. It will impact on other areas of digital and counter-terror policy, including the Prevent Duty and the Online Safety Act.  Palestine Action are a direct action group “committed to ending global participation in Israel’s genocidal and apartheid regime”. Last month, the group came to wider public attention after four of its members broke into RAF Brize Norton and sprayed red paint on the turbines of two Voyager aircraft. As well as military targets, the group also target the UK headquarters of Elbit Systems, an Israeli weapons manufacturer. While the groups actions may constitute criminal damage, their actions do not represent an attempt to induce fear in the population by creating an imminent threat to life. Proscribing Palestine Action puts the group in the same category as Boko Haram, ISIS and the Wagner Group rather than groups such as CND or Trident Ploughshares who have taken similar actions, including damaging military installations and equipment. As Zarah Sultana MP noted in parliament yesterday, it was the Prime Minister in his time as a human rights lawyer who successfully defended a man who broke into RAF Fairford to prevent what they believed were war crimes in Iraq. Proscribing Palestine Action as terrorists is not about public safety – it is about suppressing protest that we may disagree or agree with, but that stands well short of being an attempt to strike fear into the British public through the use of indiscriminate violence against people. In equating support of damage to military property with support of terrorism, it endangers legitimate debate about the UK-Israel arms trade.

Hundreds of thousands of people across the country have expressed support for Palestine Action by joining our mailing list, following and sharing our social media content and signing petitions, and many, including iconic figures like Sally Rooney, say they will continue to declare ‘we are all Palestine Action’ and speak out against this preposterous proscription, demonstrating how utterly unworkable it will be. As Justice Chamberlain acknowledged in court today, it is unclear what expressions of support could lead to arrest and potential prosecution with sentences of up to 14 years in prison. We would only have only a few hours to disband our entire organisation and dismantle all of our infrastructure, including closing bank accounts and deleting our mailing list and social media platforms. This is despite the fact that we have not had the opportunity to defend our fundamental rights in court and challenge this unlawful, authoritarian and utterly absurd proscription. If we ultimately succeed in overturning the proscription, we would have to start from scratch, having lost everything we have painstakingly built over five years. As United Nations Special Rapporteurs and experts have told the Government, property damage is not terrorism, and this proscription would even criminalise “innocent members” and supporters for peacefully exercising their rights to freedom of expression and assembly. The “chilling” effect on political protest and advocacy the United Nations experts warn of would be happening at a time when Israel’s genocide is being live-streamed before our eyes – how many more thousands of children would die while we are unable to take action against this Israel’s war crimes and our Government’s complicity? Franchesca Albanese special rapporteur on Human Rights delivers UN report on private corporate and private finance role in Gaza genocide. Forever-Occupation, genocide, and profit: Special Rapporteur’s report exposes corporate forces behind destruction of Palestine 03 July 2025 GENEVA – Israel’s genocide against Palestinians is being sustained by a system of exploitative occupation and profit, a UN expert warned today in a new report to the Human Rights Council that reveals how corporate profiteering and monetary gain has enabled and legitimised Israel’s illegal presence and actions. “In the past 21 months, while Israel’s genocide has devastated Palestinian lives and landscapes, the Tel Aviv stock exchange soared by 213 percent (USD), amassing $225.7 billion in market gains—including $67.8 billion in the past month alone. For some, genocide is profitable,” said Francesca Albanese, the UN Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in the Palestinian territory occupied since 1967. Albanese’s report exposes the corporate infrastructure profiting from Israel’s economy of occupation — and its deadly transformation into an economy of genocide. The report underscores how Palestine has become the epicentre of a global reckoning, exposing the failure of international business and legal systems to uphold even the most basic rights of one of the world’s most dispossessed peoples. “Corporate actors are deeply entwined in the system of occupation, apartheid and genocide in the occupied Palestinian territory,” the Special Rapporteur said. “For decades, Israel’s repression of Palestinian people has been scaffolded by corporations, fully aware of and yet indifferent to, decades of human rights violations and international crimes.” Forty-eight separate corporate actors, along with their parents, subsidiaries, franchisees, licensees and consortium partners across sectors are identified in the Special Rapporteur’s report, including weapons manufacturers, technological corporations, financial institutions and construction and energy firms. Albanese found that these entities have failed their most basic legal responsibilities to exercise their leverage to bring an end to the violation at stake or terminate relations and disengage. Instead, they have treated Israel’s illegal enterprise in the occupied Palestinian territory as ordinary economic activity—wilfully ignoring documented, systemic abuses, even as atrocities mounted after 7 October 2023.

Lucy Morgan-Edwards names powerful unaccountable UK Deep State war criminals 1: Chris Donnelly, ARCHITECT OF THE FAKE RUSSIAN THREAT TO TO EUROPE Christopher Nigel Donnelly is a UK deep politician who was a “special adviser” to four NATO secretaries general for 13 years, as well as to UK Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher. He also co-founded the Institute for Statecraft (which he directs) and its offshoot Integrity Initiative. Until the Integrity Initiative Leak on 5 November 2018, he was little known outside of deep political circles. A NATO biography from 2003 stated that “His current major interest is in the reform of defence and security establishments in Central and Eastern European countries following the end of the Cold War”. From 1970 to 1993, Chris Donnelly served as a reserve officer in Britain’s Territorial Army.[In 2018, ‘b’ suggested for the Moon of Alabama that “Donnelly seems to be obsessed with the ‘Russian threat’ and is determined to fight it by all means.” Donnelly wrote several of the documents in the Integrity Initiative Leak, which suggest he is suffering from a severe permanent war mentality and sees the world in one-dimensional “for us or against us” terms. Activities “Donnelly was at one time adviser to Margaret Thatcher. From 1989-2003, he was a Special Adviser for central and eastern Europe to the secretary general of NATO. In fact, he served four secretaries general, including Lord Robertson.” In 2003, Donnelly founded the Advanced Research and Assessment Group, which Wikipedia reported in 2020 “brought together experts from the military, academia and other fields in “research clusters” dedicated to specific areas of concern, in order to provide policy-makers with focussed analysis of international security issues.” In 2010, Donnelly took part in Security and Defence Learning/2010, with at least one fellow IfS member Jeffrey McCausland. The discussions were chaired by another member of the IfS, politician/spook Harold Elletson. Donnelly was a director of the Active Change Foundation for over 9 years. Donnelly’s claim that “Russia is happy to accept bribery, using organized crime as a tool” was reported by the BBC in Russian in 2014. Chris Donnelly told @BBCJLandale at #TMSRussia that the poisoning of Sergei Skripal was an “act of war”. Crimean Bridge In October 2022, a secret British intelligence plot to intervene in the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine was revealed in internal documents and correspondence obtained exclusively by The Grayzone. The April 2022 plan, drawn up at the request of Chris Donnelly, was an elaborate scheme to blow up the Crimean Bridge with the involvement of specially trained Ukrainian soldiers. Almost six months after the plan was circulated, Kerch Bridge was attacked in an October 8th suicide bombing apparently overseen by Ukraine’s SBU intelligence services. The truck bombing of the Kerch Bridge differed operationally from the plot sketched for Chris Donnelly. Yet, Britain’s evident interest in planning such an attack underscores the deep involvement of NATO powers in the Ukraine proxy war.

Lucy Morgan-Edwards names powerful unaccountable UK Deep State war criminals 2: Kim Darroch, ARCHITECT OF THE UKRAINE WAR – In November 2016, following the 2016 United States presidential election, a memo by Sir Kim Darroch to Prime Minister Theresa May was leaked in which he said the President-elect of the United States, Donald Trump, could be influenced by the British government. The following week, Trump tweeted that Nigel Farage should serve as British Ambassador to the United States, which was rejected by Downing Street, which said that there is no vacancy and that the UK has “an excellent ambassador to the US”. Sir Kim Darroch was in London the next day for consultations with Theresa May that were said to have been long planned. 2019 On 7 July 2019, secret diplomatic cables from Darroch to various members and officials of the UK government, dating from 2017 to 2019, were leaked to the Mail on Sunday, including statements such as the Trump administration was ‘inept and insecure’. This drew widespread criticism with Nigel Farage saying Darroch was “totally unsuitable” for office and Sir Bill Cash saying the comments were “toxic”. On 8 July 2019 Donald Trump tweeted that Darroch was “not liked or well thought of within the US” and that “we will no longer deal with him”. On 9 July 2019, Boris Johnson refused to answer whether he would keep Kim Darroch as Britain’s ambassador to the US following the heightened diplomatic tensions between the two nations, as Conservative Party leadership rival Jeremy Hunt told Donald Trump to treat the UK with “respect”. Mr Johnson, the frontrunner to succeed Theresa May as prime minister, said in the only head-to-head televised debate of the Conservative Party leadership race “I’m not going to be so presumptuous” about what date Sir Kim would leave his job. “I and I alone will decide who takes important and politically sensitive jobs,” he said. The former foreign secretary added it was of “fantastic importance” for Britain to have a “close partnership with the US”. He also defended the UK’s apolitical civil service, saying it was “absolutely vital” that official advice “should not be leaked” and “is not politicised” by ministers. Mr Hunt, the outside candidate to get into Number 10, lambasted the president for his “disrespectful and wrong” comments regarding Mrs May and Sir Kim, saying it was the prerogative of the British government to choose its ambassadors. He insisted Sir Kim would remain in post if he were to succeed Mrs May. His intervention came as Sir Kim was forced to withdraw from a planned White House meeting on Tuesday 9 July 2019 after the president stepped up his attacks on the UK’s ambassador, calling him “wacky”, “a very stupid guy”, and “a pompous fool” foisted on the US by Britain.

Lucy Morgan-Edwards names powerful unaccountable UK Deep State war criminals 3: Christopher Steele, POISONER OF SERGEI SKRIPAL IN ZIZIS SALISBURY RESTAURANT AND AUTHOR OF THE STEELE DOSSIER – The Steele dossier, or Trump dossier, was a key part of the attempt to tie the Trump election win in 2016 with Russia. Like all other parts of Russiagate, the sensationalist allegations eventually fizzled out into nothing. In 2017, it was revealed that the dossier was commissioned by Marc Elias, a lawyer at Perkins Coie law firm in Washington, DC, and once represented Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign. Elias hired the Fusion GPS opposition research firm on behalf of the Clinton campaign and the Democratic National Committee (DNC). The dossier contains allegations of misconduct and conspiracy between Donald Trump’s presidential campaign and the Government of Russia during the 2016 United States presidential election. Campaign members and Russian operatives allegedly colluded to interfere in the election and benefit Trump. The dossier contained the infamous pee tape allegations, which claimed Donald Trump had a urine-soaked run-in with Russian sex workers while staying in the presidential suite at the Ritz-Carlton in Moscow, which then again was filmed by Russian secret services as blackmail material. Publication The dossier was published in full by BuzzFeed on January 10, 2017. Several corporate media outlets criticised BuzzFeed’s decision to release it, but chose to report about it extensively it themselves anyway, as Buzzfeed had whitewashed the dubious claims to respectability. Buzzfeed editor Ben Smith suffered no negative career consequences for it, and in 2022 was rewarded with becoming editor of the generously funded Semafor. MI6 connection Analyst Ludwig De Braeckeleer pointed out that the Mueller Report ignores the following facts on the role the Steele dossier and MI6 played in the Russiagate hoax: Luke Harding “wrote the book Collusion to legitimize Steele’s dossier, [and] has served for a very long time as Steele’s publicist and scribe while conducting similar trysts with other major British intelligence figures. Harding has worked with both Hakluyt and Orbis.” Christopher Steele met with the FBI’s Peter Strzok in July 2016. During the summer of 2016, Robert Hannigan, then head of GCHQ, flew to Washington to brief John Brennan personally. CIA Director John Brennan then briefed Senate Minority leader Harry Reid in August 2016 on the Steele dossier. By this process of washing dubious information, this briefing then led Reid to send FBI Director James Comey a letter demanding an investigation of the collusion between Donald Trump and the Russians. The Steele dossier was also a key foundation for the FISA warrant issued to spy on Trump’s close aide Carter Page, in the hope of finding incriminating information, or getting Page to prejudice himself in police interviews by giving statements conflicting with the tapes.

Halper began his US government career in 1971 in the Executive Office of the President. During the Nixon Administration he held positions in the White House Domestic Council and the Office of Management and Budget. With the Gerald Ford Presidency, Halper moved to the Office of the White House Chief of Staff where he had responsibility for a range of domestic and international issues. In 1977 Halper became Special Counsel to the Congressional Joint Economic Committee and Legislative Assistant to Senator William Roth (R-Del.) October Surprise He was involved in the October Surprise operation to get rid of president Carter. The New York Times reported that for Ronald Reagan’s 1980 campaign, Halper was the “person in charge” of running a “highly secretive” operation to get “inside information” about the Carter Administration’s foreign policy and pass it to the Reagan campaign. Support for George H. W. Bush & Ronald Reagan In 1979 he became National Policy Director for George H. W. Bush’s Presidential campaign and then in 1980 he became Director of Policy Coordination for the Reagan-Bush Presidential campaign. After Reagan entered the White House, Halper became Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Political-Military Affairs. Upon leaving the Department in 1984, he remained an advisor on National Security Affairs to the White House and the Republican National Committee until 1992. Lucy Morgan-Edwards names powerful unaccountable Deep State war criminals 5: Peter Bergen at CNN – Journalist Peter Bergen produced CNN’s electrifying Osama bin Laden interview from a cave in Afghanistan in 1997. In it, the al-Qaeda leader declared war against the US for the first time to a Western audience. No one knew what to make of it – even Bergen wasn’t sure if bin Laden would follow through on his threat. The interview – conducted by Bergen, CNN war correspondent Peter Arnett, and photographer Peter Jouvenal – landed with a thud when it initially aired in 1997. “There were people at the US government who were interested in him, but it was a very small group,” Bergen said. CNN’s interview became one of the most compelling television moments in history four years later, however, when jets crashed into the World Trade Center, the Pentagon, and a Pennsylvania field killing almost 3,000 people on September 11, 2001. The Islamist group al-Qaeda claimed responsibility and its leader, Osama bin Laden, became the World’s Most Wanted man. The incredible story behind how Bergen brokered the bin Laden interview has all of the hallmarks of a spy thriller tinged with the dogged determination of a journalist intent on interviewing a terrorist even if the situation turned dangerous. And the situation was very dangerous – more so than Bergen realized at the time. “When we went to interview Osama bin Laden, they were very paranoid that we were members of the intelligence community, and I had to really persuade them,” Bergen told the SPYSCAPE Festival, Spies & Storytellers event in New York City. They were also very unsophisticated about the media. They had never really dealt with members of the media.” The prolific author, documentary producer, and VP of Global Studies and Fellows at the New America think tank was born in Minneapolis in 1962. He grew up in London and attended Ampleforth College in North Yorkshire before studying modern history at Oxford University. In 1983, Bergen made a documentary, Refugees of Faith, about Afghan refugees flowing into Pakistan and began studying the region. After NYC’s first World Trade Center bombing killed six people in 1993, it was clear to Bergen that some of the terrorists trained in Afghanistan. Bergen set off to the region once again to find out more about how the NYC attack was planned. He was also interested in Ramzi Yousef, the mastermind of the ‘93 Trade Center attack who was associated with followers of Osama bin Laden. “Increasingly, it looks like a dress rehearsal for the events of September 11,” Bergen said in a C-SPAN interview.

Over 400 media workers, including 111 BBC journalists say they have been instructed to support the Israeli genocide – Delivered on the eve of Channel 4’s airing of the documentary Gaza: Doctors Under Attack, which the BBC commissioned but shelved as it said it “risked creating a perception of partiality”, the letter alleges the decision to drop the film “demonstrates, once again, that the BBC is not reporting ‘without fear or favour’ when it comes to Israel”. It also accuses the BBC of being “crippled by the fear of being perceived as critical of the Israeli government” and claims the “inconsistent manner in which guidance is applied draws into focus the role of Gibb, on the BBC Board and BBC’s editorial standards committee” as “we are concerned that an individual with close ties to the Jewish Chronicle … has a say in the BBC’s editorial decisions in any capacity, including the decision not to broadcast Gaza: Medics Under Fire”. Gibb, Theresa May’s former spin doctor and a former head of the BBC’s Westminster political team, led the consortium that bought the Jewish Chronicle in 2020 and, up until August 2024, was a director of Jewish Chronicle Media. The letter, organised by a group of BBC insiders, says: “For many of us, our efforts have been frustrated by opaque decisions made at senior levels of the BBC without discussion or explanation. Our failures impact audiences. “As an organisation we have not offered any significant analysis of the UK government’s involvement in the war on Palestinians. We have failed to report on weapons sales or their legal implications. These stories have instead been broken by the BBC’s competitors.” The statement alleges Gibb has a “conflict of interest” which “highlights a double standard for BBC content makers who have themselves experienced censorship in the name of ‘impartiality’.” It adds: “In some instances staff have been accused of having an agenda because they have posted news articles critical of the Israeli government on their social media. By comparison, Gibb remains in an influential post with little transparency regarding his decisions despite his ideological leanings being well known. We can no longer ask licence fee payers to overlook Gibbs’s ideological allegiances.” The letter concludes: “We, the undersigned BBC staff, freelancers and industry figures are extremely concerned that the BBC’s reporting on Israel and Palestine continues to fall short of the standards our audiences expect. We believe the role of Robbie Gibb, both on the board, and as part of the editorial standards committee, is untenable. We call on the BBC to do better for our audiences and recommit to our values of impartiality, honesty and reporting without fear or favour.” Owing to their fear of repercussions, the 111 BBC journalists signed anonymously.

But was it really a misdiagnosis and medical negligence by paramedics that killed her?  Richie Allen interviews Kate Shemirani as the BBC lays into her as an ‘antivaxxer’. Cambridge grad daughter of notorious anti-vaxxer died of cancer age 23 after refusing treatment when she ‘fell for mum’s conspiracy theories’, brothers claim A Cambridge graduate died of cancer after being indoctrinated by her mother into refusing conventional medical treatment, her siblings claim. Paloma Shemirani died in July last year aged 23 after being diagnosed with non-Hodgkin lymphoma, a form of blood cancer. Miss Brighton finalist Paloma was the daughter of Kate Shemirani, a notorious anti-vaxxer who was struck off the UK’s nursing register in 2021 for her extreme anti-medicine views, including discouraging the use of masks and vaccines. Her brothers, Gabriel and Sebastian, claim their sister ultimately ended up refusing conventional chemotherapy – despite doctors saying it would give her an 80 per cent chance of survival – because of pressure from their mother, with whom she had been trying to build a better relationship. They also allege that their mother sought to isolate her daughter from friends, her boyfriend and other members of her family, even as the cancer’s progression became distressingly clear. Paloma, a Cambridge graduate who was pictured beaming with her two A* and A results after finishing school, had aspired to embark on a career in publishing. But her life was cut tragically short due to, her brothers allege, undue influence from their mother, who rose to notoriety during the coronavirus pandemic. Kate, 60, continues to call herself a ‘natural nurse’ despite being banned from practising nursing in the UK. She made headlines during the pandemic when she used social media to claim Covid vaccines had ‘a tiny bit of Satan’ inside, the jabs caused cancer and contained material harvested from aborted foetuses. She also claimed the Covid virus was linked to the roll-out of 5G technology, and a political tool to gain access to and change people’s DNA. She likened lockdown to the Holocaust and insisted dancing NHS nurses would ‘stand trial for genocide’, while also branding vaccination teams ‘death squads’. She has not commented on her sons’ claims, instead claiming without evidence that the NHS is responsible for her daughter’s death. Speaking to the BBC ahead of a Panorama documentary that airs on Monday night, Gabriel and Sebastian said Paloma had died just seven months after being diagnosed with cancer because of her mother’s extreme views. Sebastian said: ‘My sister has passed away as a direct consequence of my mum’s actions and beliefs and I don’t want anyone else to go through the same pain or loss that I have.’ Kate – who was banned from Twitter but returned when it was rebranded as X under Elon Musk – is said to have briefly worked for the NHS in the 1980s before working as a British Airways air hostess and mode before administering Botox, fillers and peels while bringing up her children. Gabriel and Sebastian are estranged from their mother but Paloma stayed in touch – trying, they felt, to build upon her relationship. Like her mother, she refused to accept a coronavirus vaccination.

Reduce cost of delivering social housing by using public land and reinvesting profits, says RIBA report ‘Foundations for the Future: a new delivery model for social housing’ proposes building new homes on publicly-owned sites to help deliver new social housing. It sets out a model to create a pipeline of new social housing, reducing the need for continuous central government funding. It proposes that local authorities in England receive a fixed initial investment from central government in order to: Build new homes on land which is free at the point of use, thereby eliminating or reducing land cost, leaving only construction costs Deliver mixed-tenure developments with both social and market homes Sell the market homes to create an income stream, and reinvest all proceeds to build more homes, making the model almost self-sustaining, according to RIBA analysis The model addresses the urgent need for more social housing, with almost 1.3 million households currently on waiting lists – the highest since 2014. Right to Buy led to the sale of 118,000 social homes between 2012/13 and 2022/23, but only funded 41,000 new social homes over the same period, resulting in a net reduction in social housing stock. Over 30 years, RIBA’s model delivers £2.23 worth of social value for every £1 invested. This accounts for the economic benefits of providing social housing, such as increased employment and improved health and education outcomes. We spend £1.24 billion every year on reducing homelessness in England, including temporary accommodation. The report shows that a one-off investment of the same amount could fund over 20,000 new homes (including over 13,000 social homes) over ten years. RIBA Chair of the Board of Trustees Jack Pringle said: “For most people experiencing housing insecurity, social housing is the only route to an affordable, secure home. The need for social housing is greater than ever, and public sector provision is the only way to build it at the scale required. This model shows how resources can be allocated to help to create a new generation of social homes while minimising other costs, but it’s just one piece of the puzzle. By demonstrating a different approach to housing delivery, we hope to encourage new ways of thinking, either by building on our model or through complementary initiatives. Of course, new homes must be accompanied by the necessary amenities and infrastructure such as schools and public transport to create well-designed places that stand the test of time. To meet the Government’s target of 1.5 million new homes by 2029, we need to think differently – and act now. As architects, we stand ready to tackle this challenge head on; to design and build the next generation of quality homes surrounded by vibrant communities that stand the test of time.”

Scientists aim to create first artificial human DNA – the risks and benefits Experts share their insights with The i Paper as the UK becomes home to the first major project looking to write human DNA from scratch Britain has become home to the first major investment project looking to write human DNA completely from scratch, attracting both great excitement and grave concern from the scientific community. Scientists already have the ability to read DNA, the building blocks of human beings, and have begun editing genome code to help cure specific diseases. An ambitious new project, however, called SynHG (Synthetic Human Genome) has been given £10m of funding from the world’s largest medical charity, the Wellcome Trust, and will aim to completely synthesise DNA, paving the way for potentially groundbreaking medical therapies. Research in the field has, up until now, been taboo, with campaigners worried about designer babies and unforeseen ethical issues. As the lines between the biological and synthetic world become ever more blurred, The i Paper hears from multiple experts to identify the potential risks and benefits of building completely synthetic DNA. The potential risks Thomas, however, was concerned about the commercialisation of synthesised DNA in the UK. “If these cells are truly synthesised, then the idea would be that [companies] can put a patent on them. If I am given a synthesised heart, though, who owns the heart?” Thomas said. “Am I then giving permission to a company to monitor my heart and biology?” Altering DNA could potentially open the door to creating synthetic embryos – also known as designer babies – biological weapons, so-called “super humans” and “greater ill-health rather than a healthier society”, Thomas said. “AI will almost certainly be used in the design process [of synthetic DNA],” Thomas added. “If AI, which is also in its infancy, is trained on our incomplete understanding of the human genome, are we creating something that could be dangerous? Could it lead to unexpected mutations? Could they be inheritable?” To mitigate against these unknowns, Thomas argued for stronger regulation around DNA building before these possibilities become a reality. She also highlighted the risk of widening health inequalities between the rich and the poor if this new research is used to make more targeted medicines that only wealthier Britons can afford. “There has been a lot of fanfare around the 25th anniversary of the completion of the Human Genome Project, but where is the demand coming from?” continued Thomas. “I wouldn’t think the demand is coming from the average citizen; they would probably prefer resources go towards a fully funded NHS, so they can see their doctor when they want.”

1 year anniversary of Julian Assange being released – campaign to change the guilty plea he had to make. ‘6 Billion Dollar Man’ film, about Assange, coming soon. ‘The Six Billion Dollar Man’ Review: Eugene Jarecki’s Julian Assange Doc Is a Jam-Packed Chronicle of Legal Persecution Unless you followed the ups and downs — well, mostly the downs — of Julian Assange’s life over the past 15 years, you’ll have to wait until the last half-hour of Eugene Jarecki’s new documentary, The Six Billion Dollar Man, to understand what its title means. By that point, the WikiLeaks founder had been holed up for over six years at the Ecuadorian embassy in London, where he faced imminent arrest by the UK authorities. It’s then that we learn how the first Trump administration offered, via the IMF, to loan Ecuador’s government $6.5 billion if they agreed to kick Assange out. The move is not exactly shocking, especially coming from a dealmaker like Trump, and it shows just how much the U.S. authorities were willing to pay so they could nab one of their most wanted men. Much of Jarecki’s jam-packed and informative two-hour feature, which premiered as a special screening in Cannes, focuses on the decade-plus legal rollercoaster ride that Assange and his team of committed lawyers were obliged to take. The film can get a bit repetitive during all those scenes at the embassy, which is not the most cinematic of locations. But we do grasp the sense of confinement and growing paranoia Assange experienced for years on end. Technically he wasn’t in jail, but his life was under house arrest. The first half of The Six Billion Dollar Man gives us some of the backstory leading up to that point, showing how Assange rose from unknown Australian hacker to worldwide hero of free journalism to public enemy number one, especially for the American government. Founded in 2006, his tiny startup WikiLeaks became a phenomenon the next year when Assange released a video called Collateral Murder, unveiling leaked footage of U.S. Marines massacring Iraqi civilians. (Jarecki includes a long excerpt, which is as disturbing now as it was back then.) In the years that followed, the site dumped thousands of redacted documents online, including military field logs, diplomatic communications, and lots of nasty emails between members of the Democratic National Committee. This was a promising time for the internet, when it seemed like online journalism could shake up the world order. “Would you rather not know?” a bearded Edward Snowden explains (presumably from Moscow), referring to all the information Assange was offering up free of charge. But that period would be short-lived, especially when the U.S. struck back against the many compromising documents WikiLeaks was putting out in public. “A fight with the Pentagon only ends one way,” is what one interviewee tells Jarecki, and the rest of the movie shows how our government desperately tried to land Assange behind bars, leaving him no option but to take political asylum in the only place he could get it. Jarecki is no stranger to the abuses of U.S. power, especially in early features like The Trials of Henry Kissinger and Why We Fight that focused on disastrous American foreign policy, from the Vietnam War to the War in Iraq. In the opening sections of his new doc, he does a good job contextualizing the importance of Assange’s work, which aired lots of embarrassing — not to mention criminalizing — dirty laundry under the administrations of both Obama and Trump, neither of whom come off as good guys here.

Asked by The Mirror about an alarming dossier that said Brits must “actively prepare” for war, he voiced his alarm over “sophisticated” attacks on the UK mainland. The Prime Minister announced that security spending will be ramped up dramatically in a “decisive message to aggressors”. He stated: “It is a mistake to think that the only threat we face is external and far off. We do face threats at home all of the time on a daily basis. “There are cyber attacks that have to be dealt with and all being dealt with. They are ever more sophisticated. We need to have the capability to deal with them.” He said that security services have dealt with “many attempts to penetrate our systems”, and added: “The fact that they are very good shouldn’t detract from the fact that that is a real threat to our country.” The PM stated that Europe has made a “fundamental shift in its posture” by ramping up its focus on security in the face of new threats. He said NATO members have agreed to raise spending to 5% within a decade, and vowed that the UK will reach 4.1% by 2027. The Prime Minister said he will oversee the “biggest strengthening” of the UK’s nuclear deterrence in three decades after confirming RAF pilots will get nuke-capable jets. Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan says security officials have thwarted a coup plot involving a leading cleric from Armenia’s national church. The arrest of Archbishop Bagrat Galstanyan, leader of the opposition movement Holy Struggle, on Wednesday marks a sharp escalation in Pashinyan’s standoff with the leadership of the powerful Apostolic Church. The church’s leader, Catholicos Garegin II, has called for Pashinyan’s resignation after Armenia lost a war to Azerbaijan in 2020, while Galstanyan, the primate of the Diocese of Tavush, led mass protests last year, aiming to unseat the prime minister, channelling widespread public anger over military defeats and territorial concessions to Azerbaijan. “Law enforcement officers prevented a large and sinister plan by the ‘criminal-oligarchic clergy’ to destabilize the Republic of Armenia and seize power,” Pashinyan wrote on Facebook on Wednesday, sharing a statement by Armenia’s Investigative Committee. The committee said it had filed criminal charges against Galstanyan and 15 others, who they said had “acquired the means and tools necessary to commit a terrorist attack and seize power”. A total of 14 people had been arrested, investigators said, without naming them. Johnnie Moore, executive director of GHF, told Sky News there is a “disinformation campaign” that is “meant to shut down our efforts” in the Gaza Strip, fuelled by “some figures” coming out every day. Mr Moore, an evangelical preacher who served as a White House adviser in the first Trump administration, said his aid group has delivered more than 44 million meals to Gazans since it began operations in May. The controversial group, backed by Israel and the United States, has been rejected by the UN and other aid groups, which have refused to cooperate with the GHF. The aid agencies claim Israel is weaponising food, and the new distribution system using the GHF will be ineffective and lead to further displacement of Palestinians. They also argue the GHF will fail to meet local needs and violate humanitarian principles that prohibit a warring party from controlling humanitarian assistance. The GHF is distributing food packages, which they say can feed 5.5 people for 3.5 days, in four locations, with the majority in the far south of Gaza.

As every CNDer knows, Israel does not admit to having nuclear weapons and has not signed the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT). In the last 18 months, few parliamentarians have even raised the prospect of Israel using them. In contrast, Iran signed the NPT in 1968, ratified it in 1970, and remains a signatory to this day despite ongoing upheavals across the region. Iran is the only other country in the Middle East with the potential to become a nuclear weapons state in the foreseeable future. Its cooperation is essential if any practical steps towards a nuclear weapons free Middle East are to be taken. That’s why the JCPOA, the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action negotiated by Barak Obama during his presidency, was one of the most important – and successful – arms limitation agreements of recent times. It came into effect when UN Security Council Resolution 2231 was adopted on 18 October 2015, and remains in force until 18 October this year – formally speaking if not in reality. In return for some international sanctions being lifted, Iran agreed to: • restrict uranium enrichment; • limit the numbers and types of centrifuges in operation; • cut the size of its of enriched uranium stockpiles; and • permit inspection by the UN’s nuclear watchdog, the International Atomic Energy Agency. Regular IAEA inspections confirmed the agreement was honoured. IAEA reports were accepted by all parties, including US government bodies. Trump was wrong and short sighted to pull out of the JCPOA during his first term. His approach to negotiating a new agreement in his second term shows signs of being just as wrong-headed and short sighted. When the US withdrew in 2018, the US reimposed unilateral sanctions. Britain, France, and Germany (the E3) remain parties to UNSC 2231, but followed the US in slapping national sanctions on Iran – effectively killing the JCPOA. Iran’s approach Throughout, Iran has sought to reopen a nuclear dialogue with the US. Iran says Israel was planning false flag attacks in US. 70 years ago, an Anglo-US coup condemned Iran to decades of oppression – but now the people are fighting back The 1953 coup d’etat in Iran ushered in a period of exploitation and oppression that has continued – despite a subsequent revolution that led to huge changes – for 70 years. Each year on August 19, the anniversary of the coup, millions of Iranians ask themselves what would have happened if the US and UK had not conspired all those years ago to overthrow Iran’s democratically elected leader. Iran, the Middle East and, arguably, the whole world may well have been profoundly different. Apart from rewriting the destiny of Iran and its neighbours, the coup paved the way for a series of imperialist interventions and the toppling of democratically elected governments across the global south. Perhaps Washington might have thought twice before plotting coups in Guatemala in 1954, Congo in 1961 or Chile in 1973, if they’d been unable to overthrow Iran’s prime minister, Mohammad Mosaddegh, so easily and profitably. As the democratically elected leader of Iran from 1951 to 1953, Mosaddegh championed nationalisation of Iran’s oil industry. This had previously been in the hands of the Anglo-Persian Oil Company – a British company, founded in 1909 after the discovery of a large oil field in Iran, which would later become BP. In March 1951, Iran’s parliament voted to proceed with nationalisation. Furthermore, it would have undermined Britain’s influence in the Middle East. Plotting to depose Mosaddegh began in earnest. In the event, the coup – named Operation Ajax – was a joint venture between the CIA and MI6. The shah, Mohammad Reza Pahlavi, who had recently fled the country after an earlier plot to remove Mossadegh had failed, returned to Iran. Within a short period, he had tightened his grip on the country’s security services and imposed a dictatorial regime which ruled through brutality and fear. Pahlavi banned all opposition political parties, and many of the activists who participated in the movement for nationalisation of oil were arrested or fled the country. Government by fear In 1957, the shah established an internal security service, Sazman-e Ettel’at va Amniyat-e Keshvar (Savak), which essentially ran Iran at the shah’s bidding. From then until 1975, only two major political parties were allowed to operate, the People’s Party (?ezb-e Mardom) and the New Iran Party (?ezb-e Iran-e Novin), and all parliamentary candidates had to be approved by Savak. Both parties in reality were wholly under the shah’s control. The parliament only existed to rubber-stamp his decisions, as did the prime minister – who the shah appointed. In 1975, the shah took his domination of Iranian politics further, establishing a single party, the Party of Resurrection of the Iranian Nation (Hezb-e Rastakhiz), which all Iranians were obliged to join. By 1979, when Iran rose up in a popular revolution, it was a virtual absolute monarchy, with the shah’s will enforced by the dreaded Savak secret police.

Trump has gone all out in the Americans absolutely obliterated Fordow the whole program these three strikes have completely absolute success brilliant work by the air force the American air force I mean that’s the end of the program uh and he sort of he was even hinting now is the time for Iran to to surrender and write you know we’ll we’ll have a meeting and you can write your salon a surrender document and um this is a narrative which really actually is doesn’t seem to be working very well today trump has doubled down on it in the most bizarre way he says “Ah the Israelis tell me they’ve sent their people they’ve sent people to Fordo um and have been in Foro and have confirmed that um it is um completely destroyed i I just you know I can’t believe that he you know his team allows him to say such nonsense you know I I I know that I’ve been to K in fact is quite close to K it’s very adjacent i mean I know what that area is like you don’t have you know MOSAD agents wandering around just going into nuclear installations like Fordo which is remote and at you know in a mountain and the entrances to it you have to go down and down and down and down to get into to the um to the um enrichment chambers i I mean it’s just you know ridiculous i don’t know why they allow him to say such exaggerated things because it just you know it just undermines everything so what does this mean well what it means is something important for Iran i listened by the way to the Supreme Leader’s um address on I think it was a few days earlier that he did to a huge gathering of Iranians and it was translated by AI as I don’t understand it it was the most impressive address a a very clear statement of Iran where it is what it is um very articulate short to the point and the effect on people was was really dramatic but he was very clear no surrender he said “We will continue with enrichment.” What right has the United States to say anything to us about our proposal what right have they unprovoked illegally to attack uh the state and he said we will continue with enrichment we will continue with it because we need it for many things many different um projects that uh we we’re engaged it was a very powerful speech and if you haven’t seen it you should and it had a huge impact on the audience you you you could see it but where are we so therefore what we have at the end of this theater because quite clearly this was theater the Iranians were informed they let it happen they allowed it to bomb they’ve let they’ve said nothing um beyond um they’ve the United States and Israel say it was huge victory we’ve destroyed the nuclear enrichment program etc etc and the reality is rather different.

For years, “Israeli intelligence officers even escorted a Qatari official into Gaza, where he doled out money from suitcases filled with millions of dollars.” The cash payments have been an open secret in Israel — as Last Week Tonight’s John Oliver discussed in the second half of a November look at the symbiosis between Hamas and Netanyahu. Through interviews with more than two dozen officials in Israel, the U.S., Qatar other Middle Eastern governments, the Times “unearthed new details” about the Gaza payments and the steps Netanyahu took to “keep the money flowing” despite the controversies it sparked in his governments. Allowing the billions of dollars in payments, the Times reported, was a “gamble” by Netanyahu that a “steady flow of money would maintain peace in Gaza” and “keep Hamas focused on governing, not fighting.” Netanyahu’s critics say he wasn’t just trying to “buy quiet” from Hamas but also prop it up to weaken the internationally recognized Palestinian Authority, which governs in the West Bank, as a means to thwart talks on Palestinian statehood. Netanyahu told Politico in late November that the payments were “to avoid a civilian humanitarian collapse” in Gaza, and the idea he wanted to build up Hamas is “ridiculous” and “a big lie.” But he has been talking about keeping Hamas strong to weaken the Palestinian Authority and lessen pressure to negotiate a two-state peace since at least 2012, publicly and in private, the Times reported. At a 2019 Likud party conference, Politico noted, Netanyahu said, “Anyone who wants to prevent the establishment of a Palestinian state needs to support strengthening Hamas.”

THE BBC HAS NEVER MENTIONED THE HANNIBAL DIRECTIVE, invoked by Israel on 7 October 2023, that green-lit the murder of Israeli soldiers and civilians, often by Apache helicopter fire, to prevent them being taken captive by Hamas. The Israeli media has extensively reported on the role of the Hannibal directive in the Israeli military’s response on 7 October, but that coverage has been completely ignored by the BBC and most UK media outlets. 2. THE BBC HAS NEVER MENTIONED ISRAEL’S DAHIYA DOCTRINE, the basis of its “mowing the lawn” approach to Gaza over the past two decades, in which the Israeli military has intermittently destroyed large swaths of the tiny enclave. The official aim has been to push the population, in the words of Israeli generals, back to the “Stone Age”. The assumption is that, forced into survival mode, Palestinians will not have the energy or will to resist their brutal and illegal subjugation by Israel and that it will be easier for Israel to ethnically cleanse them from their homeland. 3. THE BBC HAS UTTERLY FAILED TO REPORT the many dozens of genocidal statements from Israeli officials since 7 October – again vital context for audiences to understand Israel’s goals in Gaza. Perhaps most egregiously, the BBC has not reported Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s biblically-inspired comparison of the Palestinians to “Amalek” – a people the Jews were instructed by God to wipe from the face of the earth. Netanyahu knew this clearly genocidal statement would have especial resonance with what now amounts to a majority of the combat soldiers in Gaza who belong to extreme religious communities that view the Bible as the literal truth. 4. By contrast, as Oborne notes, on more than 100 occasions when guests have tried to refer to what is happening in GAZA AS A GENOCIDE, BBC STAFF HAVE IMMEDIATELY SHUT THEM DOWN ON AIR. As other investigations have shown, the BBC has strictly enforced a policy not only of banning the use of the term “genocide” by its own journalists in reference to Gaza but of depriving others – from Palestinians to western medical volunteers and international law experts – of the right to use the term as well. Again, this is pure genocide denial. 5. OBORNE ALSO POINTS TO THE FACT that the BBC has largely ignored Israel’s campaign of murdering Palestinian journalists in Gaza. A greater number have been killed by Israel in its war on the tiny enclave than the total number of journalists killed in all other major conflicts of the past 160 years combined.
