This caused anger from varied vested interests including the local Masons. A hate campaign started against him including smears and death threats, leading to him losing his job and his family. Political donations are poison to our democracy – but there’s an easy antidote to that George Monbiot As revelations about Reform UK’s donors emerge, it’s clear that increasingly complex forms of patronage can’t be regulated effectively. We need a clean sweep A government survey in December discovered that 87% of people are “concerned about the possibility of corruption” among politicians. A further survey concluded that political donors are believed to wield the most influence of any elite faction. Disillusionment with politics drives people into the arms of the extreme right. This is paradoxical, as it tends to be highly receptive to the ultra-rich. Like the Tories, Reform has also taken lavish funding from very rich people who are hostile to climate action. Both parties now evince the same hostility. Which came first, the hostility or the funding? Does it matter? Whether a party changes its policy in response to donations or attracts big donors because of its policy, it’s equally damaging to democratic trust. The same applies to Labour’s relationship with City donors, which might help explain its newfound enthusiasm for deregulating finance, despite the warnings of 2008. As Transparency International has documented, political parties in the UK “are increasingly becoming dependent on a small number of very wealthy donors”. “Dependent on” can easily mean “beholden to”. In very few cases has corruption been demonstrated. But that’s not the point. The problem isn’t that such relationships are illegal. The problem is that they are not. It works as follows. The only money a party can receive is a standard fee (say £25) for membership. The government then matches that fee on a fixed multiple. For instance, if you have 100,000 members each paying £25, and the multiple is three, your annual budget is £10m. And that’s it: no other sources permitted. The parties would agree between themselves, with public input (perhaps a citizens’ assembly), on what the membership fee and multiple should be. Democracy demands that we eliminate not only the dodgiest and most obscure sources of donor money, but all of it.

Mr Polanski, the Green Party leader, refused to apologise for sharing a social media post that showed a photo of a Green supporter at an event in Bristol wearing a T-shirt with a graphic of a guillotine and the caption: “We’re only making plans for Nigel.” Mr Farage, the Reform leader, said sharing the post was “beyond belief” and referred the matter to the Met Police. On Wednesday evening, Scotland Yard said it would not take any action against Mr Polanski because it said that sharing the image was “unlikely” to constitute a criminal offence. The force added that Mr Polanski had not seen the image in question, and that any criminal investigation would apply to 130 people and organisations that also shared it. Responding to the decision, a Reform UK spokesman said: “Once again, we see that we are living in two-tier Britain. “Zack Polanski is allowed to get away with inciting murder whilst ordinary people up and down the country get a knock at the door for making a joke online.” Zia Yusuf, Reform’s home affairs spokesman, added: “The police have confirmed they will take no action against Zack Polanski for sharing a photo of a man wearing a T-shirt calling for the beheading of Nigel Farage. Proof of two-tier policing in Britain. Just imagine if it had been the other way around.” Custody data show that officers make about 12,000 arrests a year under section 127 of the Communications Act 2003 and section 1 of the Malicious Communications Act 1988. 33 arrests per day Officers from 37 police forces made 12,183 arrests in 2023, the equivalent of about 33 per day. In 2024, there were 44 prosecutions for social media posts that could stir up racial hatred. In a statement on Wednesday, the Met said it had referred the person wearing the T-shirt to Avon and Somerset Police, arguing that a crime “should be recorded” against them. Any further action against the man would be a matter for that force. A Green Party spokesman said: “The police have examined the evidence and concluded that no crime was committed. This was obvious from the start, as was the fact that Reform were always using this as a political football for their own cynical purposes to distract from questions about their own dodgy donations.” In an interview with the BBC on Tuesday, Mr Polanski repeatedly refused to apologise to Mr Farage over the post. The Green leader stressed that he took the post down immediately after becoming aware of the image, saying: “If I had done it deliberately, I would be apologising.” It then emerged on Wednesday that Mr Polanski liked online posts suggesting that his Right-wing rivals supported Adolf Hitler, despite his pledge to “be better on my social media”.

Parliament watchdog accused of bias over treatment of pro-Israel politicians Exclusive: Daniel Greenberg voiced support for Israeli war on Gaza months after taking up role as independent commissioner The parliamentary standards commissioner has demonstrated bias after dismissing a complaint against dozens of pro-Israel MPs. Declassified can reveal how Daniel Greenberg – who is meant to be impartial – voiced support for Israel’s assault on Gaza after being appointed to his role in 2023. He also once implied that any Israeli who refused to serve in the IDF was “a coward and a parasite”. The comments have raised questions over his refusal last year to investigate whether MPs should formally declare their roles in Labour Friends of Israel (LFI), which just last month sent a delegation to meet the country’s president. In October, Greenberg twice rejected a complaint about the MPs, suggesting there was no need for them to be transparent about their involvement with LFI because their roles were not sufficiently “significant and formal”. This is despite some holding “vice-chair” positions. LFI is funded by anonymous donors and was described as a “lobbying organisation” by one of its former directors. A full list of its supporters, which included Keir Starmer and David Lammy, was deleted from the group’s website shortly before the election last year. None of the MPs have declared their roles in parliament’s register of interests. As standards commissioner, Greenberg is responsible for conducting “impartial” investigations to enforce transparency in the register of interests. But two former members of parliament’s standards committee have now questioned his judgement, with one saying he “ought to recuse himself” over complaints relating to Israel. In 2012, Greenberg wrote a blog post about military service in Israel, criticising “boys hiding behind their religous [sic] books in order to evade army service”. He said that his son had recently emigrated to Israel and had been signed up for military service. Greenberg wrote: “….he could have avoided it pretty much forever had he chosen to… But my son prefers to be able to look himself in the face in the morning than to avoid army service.” “If you live in a country where the borders need guarding, then you take your turn in guarding them: otherwise, what are you but a coward and a parasite, living off the efforts of others?” Greenberg continued to publicly voice opinions about Israel even after he was appointed to his role as standards commissioner in January 2023. In November of that year, he described Israel’s assault on Gaza as a “a war for its survival” that “we have to fight”. He later added that innocent civilians in Gaza are “living a hell on earth that I cannot even properly imagine”. And last year he accused certain Orthodox Jews who “shirk responsibility” towards Israel’s military of “cowardly self-delusion”. The commissioner added that those who join the army find themselves in “good company on the battlefield”….

Cllr Simon Killane to remain in scrutiny role at Wiltshire Council after resigning from Malmesbury Town Council 16th June 2015 A TOWN councillor for Malmesbury has resigned but will be continuing in his role as a Wiltshire Councillor for the area. Cllr Simon Killane, who ran as an independent candidate during the general election, announced his resignation at a meeting of the town council’s Policy and Resources Committee on June 9. The meeting included a discussion of the process of Mayor Making, an annual tradition in which the mayor and deputy mayor designate are officially chosen. This year’s mayor making was the most controversial in years after a last minute change of heart saw town councillors elect former Mayor Cllr John Gundry over Cllr Kim Power, who was deputy mayor during the last civic year. Cllr Killane wrote a statement in favour of Cllr Power after the vote, describing her loss as a “cruel rejection”. Cllr Killane stated that he had been re-elected as the chairman of Wiltshire Council’s Overview and Scrutiny Management Committee, which scrutinises the council’s £900million budget, but would not comment on why he had stepped down from the town council. Despite spearheading the town’s neighbourhood planning process Cllr Killane has been the target of a campaign calling for his resignation and has had official complaints from town councillors and residents alike. Kick money out of politics Far too many of our political parties are reliant on donations. This allows rich donors to hijack our politics at the expense of ordinary voters. More than £20 million was donated to political parties in the first three months of 2026 alone, with the majority coming from a small number of mega-donors. The Government is introducing a £100,000 cap on overseas donations, but billionaires at home will still be able to pour unlimited sums into our political parties. Democracy should be decided by voters, not by those with the biggest wallets. A handful of wealthy individuals, wherever they live, should not be able to buy influence in our democracy. We need a donations cap for all donors. It’s the only way to get big money out of our politics entirely. The Labour Party election manifesto promised to “protect democracy by strengthening rules around donations.” Prime Minister Burnham should deliver on this promise by kicking big money out of politics entirely.

The Supreme Court’s missing Register of Interests: When transparency is ‘Not appropriate’. From a ‘not feasible’ register of interests to a hostile enquiry form, what the UK Supreme Court’s interface reveals about accountability. Alison Wright I searched the UK Supreme Court website for its policy on declaration of interests and found it here: Justices’ financial interests – UK Supreme Court. The statement is reproduced in full below: – The Justices of the UK Supreme Court have decided that it is not appropriate or feasible to publish a Register of Interests. This decision has been taken on the basis that it would be impossible for the Justices to identify all interests which may conceivably arise before the Court. The Justices have also considered that a Register of Interests, which the general public would believe to be complete, could potentially be misleading. Instead, the Justices have agreed a formal Code of Conduct by which they will all be bound. Current practice is for a Justice to declare any interest which arises in the context of a particular case and, if necessary, recuse themselves from sitting in that case – whether at a substantive hearing or an application for permission to appeal. Several Justices will hold shares in a number of public quoted companies. Justices will not regard a small shareholding in any such company involved in a case as a matter for recusal or disclosures. A Justice with a large shareholding will draw this specifically to the parties’ attention. In addition, Justices will not normally think it necessary to declare that they are council taxpayers in a local authority which is a party to a case or is likely to be affected by the outcome. Any party who wishes to have specific confirmation of the position regarding any such shareholding(s) or council tax liabilities in any particular case should contact the Registry.

Trump changing planes as he has a death threat – real or a stunt? These security measures should never make it to the news media and the real reason is floating the idea of falsifying a death threat against Donald Trump by Iran? Why Trump’s secret Air Force One switcheroo is problematic On its surface, the news that President Donald Trump secretly switched planes before departing Turkey last month because of a security threat from Iran might seem non-controversial — and even kind of cool, in a cloak-and-dagger sort of way. But the story — which was broken by the Washington Post late Monday and later confirmed by CNN and others — does raise some very real issues and questions. First, let’s recap the basics of the reporting. It was already reported last month that, due to security concerns, the White House had scrapped a return flight on the new Qatari-gifted plane that Trump uses as Air Force One in favor of the older plane. (Trump had initially claimed it was so US service members could tour the new plane.) The old plane has better security features than the retrofitted, new plane. And given Turkey borders Iran, that precaution would make sense. It’s now clear that Trump boarded the legacy plane, then was secretly transferred via a catering truck to a smaller Air Force C-32A. He flew that to UK, where he kept up the ruse by covertly re-boarding the old Air Force One, deplaning for cameras and then got on the Qatari-gifted plane for the return flight home. That brings up the first issue. Trump and the White House lied — even after the threat had ostensibly passed It’s legitimate — and not-unheard-of — for these kinds of measures to be taken to protect a president. But it’s notable that Trump and the White House kept lying about it even after the apparent danger had passed. Then-President Bill Clinton used a decoy plane for a trip to Pakistan in 2000, arriving in an unmarked C-20 after a more conspicuously American-branded C-20 had landed. (US officials feared Clinton’s plane might be shot down by terrorists like Osama bin Laden.) But Clinton soon got off the unmarked plane, effectively disclosing the ruse to the public. And the Washington Post reported Tuesday that the Clinton White House briefed the head of the White House Correspondents’ Association, off the record, ahead of time. In contrast, Trump and the White House went on pretending like he had actually flown on the legacy Air Force One…

My uh friend, the former governor of New Jersey, I don’t agree with him on many things, but this is a very interesting observation. He made Donald Trump’s greatest fear is to be compared to the predecessor he least respected, Jimmy Carter. Watch this. The real problem here is it was a it was an adventure without a plan. And now, you know, I was struck this week when the Iranians put out their list of demands to reopen the straight reparations. Yeah. Etc. What struck me was that Donald Trump is about to become what he never ever wanted to be, Jimmy Carter. Yes. He is being held hostage by Iran. They are holding the straight of Hormuse hostage. As a result, they’re holding the world economy hostage and it’s focused at Donald Trump and and I know from talking to him over the last 24 years. The one person he would never want to be talking to about Jimmy Carter, too. And so, and here we are and it was all voluntary. Jimmy Carter is 400 times the man that Donald Trump ever was. Mark had been talking to dazed and injured passengers as they emerged from the smoke and chaos below and listening back to the Guardian’s first report of the day is unsettling. Despite the official story of Mohammad Sidique Khan blowing himself up in the carriage, Honigsbaum says ‘We believe there was an explosion this morning under the carriage of a train’. ‘The tiles, the covers on the floor suddenly flew up, raised up,’ he went on, derailing the Metropolitan Line carriages into the path of an oncominng train. A former officer in Israel’s SAS, the Sayeret Matkal, Finance Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was due to be arriving at a Great Eastern Hotel conference just as Shehzad Tanweer’s Liverpool Street tube bomb was going off below the hotel. Netanyahu was reported that morning by Amy Teibel on Associated Press’ Jerusalem Desk to have ‘changed plans due to a warning’ from Scotland Yard, and thankfully Bibi had not left his hotel. The Israeli embassy have since denied having any warning but Israeli government Press Officer Dan Sheham told journalists, including the Scottish Sunday Herald’s foreign affairs editor David Pratt, embassy security was ‘beefed up’ around 7am that day. The four simultaneous bombs, three on tube trains and one on a bus were supposed to have been a surprise attack. Personally, I would welcome an opportunity to show Marianna Spring or anyone in the mainstream media the excess mortality figures since the rollout of the Covid injections, even though they know what they’re hiding. You’d think they’d be intrigued by a story from someone who spent 16 years on national TV and had some kind of public profile before dropping off the radar for calling out the scam. Of course they’re not interested in something that’s easily verifiable, that makes conspiracy theorists look reasonable and measured and that exposes their own treachery. The goal here is encourage the public to think we’re a bunch of nasties who pick on a man in a wheelchair and scoff at his daughter who’s recovering from a brain injury. Incredibly the plan worked. To quote: ‘Please let us know when you or Dave would like to come and retrieve your equipment and drop off your keys. He decided the show should be ‘rested, due to the pandemic’ on 24 March 2020 and then refused to communicate at all when we requested to do the show remotely. Bristol Community FM (BCfm) charity ‘CEO’ Patrick Hart is a long-time personal friend of Bristol’s all-powerful right-wing ‘Labour’ mayor Marvin Rees. Pat Hart has a private property portfolio on the continent and also does Public Relations work for property speculators who are taking over community facilities such as Redfield Cinema. Now on Internet only NOT The BCfm Politics Show is available 17:00-c. 20:00 live on Fridays. Pat Hart replaced us with a dumbed-down student show repeating MSM stories called The Bristol Agenda. The radio regulatory body received a complaint from “UK Lawyers for Israel’ over a show on BCfm radio, hosted by investigative journalist Tony Gosling. The weekly politics show, on the popular community radio station based in Easton, was reported for several allegations on a show which aired on November 23. Tony Gosling, who was a former BBC journalist between 1989 and 1993, has been producing and presenting ‘The Tony Gosling Politics’ show every week on BCFM radio for 11 years. They have released a statement which reads: “Whilst we are supportive of all our volunteer presenters, The Tony Gosling Politics Show only represents approximately ten percent of our political output content wise, and less than two per cent of our entire weekly output.” Mr Gosling’s programme looks at local politics and he interviews a range of councillors and MPs in the city. The show is also perhaps more well known for its alternative look at international politics, and he has a cult following online from across the world. Mr Gosling has made regular appearances on national media including the politics show with Andrew Neil on BBC One, and international channels such as Russia Today, Channel1 Russia, NTV, and recently for both Turkish and Lebanon TV.
November 2012 – Tony gets death threats on the phone from the Jewish Defence League – ‘you’re a dead man walking’ – a man calls him and Tony records the call. Audio of UK Jewish Defence League (JDL) death threat against British journalist Tony Gosling (2012) – Avon and Somerset police Special Branch investigate, trace the caller, and after six months report to Tony that the individual has been served a caution that they will proceed with a prosecution for harassment under the 1861 offences against the person act. Seems pretty clear this death threat was issued alongside the lies, copied below, which were published on their blog by London based UK JDL in November 2012. Firstly Tony Gosling is not a ‘homophobe’. That accusation was first made in an article published by the ‘Harry’s Place’ blog, penned by Zionist David Toube and propelled by him anonymously into Private Eye in 2008. It refers to Gosling’s criticism of senior teachers at Bannerman Road Primary school in Bristol who used homosexual early learning picture books against the express wishes of the parent governors. His criticism was about the deception by teaching staff not because of the homosexual content of the books. Secondly, if you follow the JDL link you’ll find what Tony Gosling actually says about the ‘Protocols Of The Learned Elders Of Zion’ says “…I don’t think there is much doubt that the Protocols are fake…” Thirdly he is not a member of Bristol Palestine Solidarity Campaign and has never been to any of their meetings.
Autumn 2014 – Tony’s documentary production and distribution business shut down by its bank. Our thriving Co-op business bank account ordered closed for undisclosed reasons. Tony Gosling and Ben Edwards founded i-Contact Video Network to distribute documentaries on VHS video and DVD and to make their own documentaries as well as attend news events and sell video footage to TV news channels. Amongst the films we distributed were Operation Solstice, Coconut Revolution, Mark Purdey and Organophosphates, McLibel, 9/11 In Plane Site, Ludicrous Diversion and The Battle of Trafalgar. These, plus books, and even a board game about drug dealing ‘Dollars and Dibble’, were all available via mail order and we supplied libraries around the world too. The bank had clearly been ordered to investigate us for money laundering, although they never admitted it. All the questions they asked Ben and I were about proving our identity through passports etc.. When we did, yet more letters kept arriving demanding more proofs, birth certificates etc. and eventually when one of us missed supplying the required information, within a week or so of being asked, the account was summarily closed and we got a cheque made out to one of us with the few hundred pounds that was in the business bank account. Since neither of us could get a business bank account up and running for at least a few months and the bank account meant nobody could any longer use the website, we made the reluctant decision to shut it down. Thus was a thriving business killed off by the Co_operative bank. Having said that, co-op were not quite the worst. We did apply to open an account at Bristol’s ‘ethical’ Triodos bank, who proceeded to string us along for several months and then said our business was too risky for them to provide an account!
