Retired South African judge Chris Nicholson book ‘Who Really Killed Chris Hani (2024) explains how white supremacists SAIMR killed black african leader f’or colonial resource investment and mining interests – In December 1988, Bernt Carlsson, United Nations Assistant Secretary-General, the fourth similar fact case, was persuaded to stop over in London on his way to the US. Although these killings occurred over a 30-year period, the motives and patterns of behaviour of the culprits may assist in locating the accomplices in Hani’s murder. No one could have expressed it better than Irish author SM Sigerson, author of the book on Michael Collins, quoted at the start of this chapter, when he said, ‘History repeats itself as do the methods used by those specialising in the elimination of leaders who unite people into a strong force for dignity, justice and self-determination.’ This book is a most explosive account of the real masterminds behind the murder of Chris Hani on 10 April 1993. Novara’s website explains that “Novara Media’s 2022 labour movement correspondent assignment receives support from the Rosa Luxemburg Foundation (London Office).” Ukrainian Anarchist military volunteer Sergey Movchan runs the Rosa-Luxemburg Foundation funded Violence Marker, a website whose goal is to is to “analyze the activity of xenophobic, anti-democratic, and violent organizations and initiatives from the right side of the spectrum who engage in hate crimes, assaults, and pressure against their political opponents, minorities, and vulnerable groups.” However, this stated purpose has not discouraged Movchan – who is also involved Solidarity Collectives, which coordinates support for anarchist militias fighting alongside the Ukrainian army – from downplaying concerns over cooperation between anarchist militias and Banderite Nazis in the armed forces of Ukraine.

In the first interview of its kind, we hear how he was sent to Baghdad to work on the US military’s covert terrorism propaganda war. US government spent over $500m on fake Al-Qaeda propaganda videos that tracked location of viewers The Pentagon hired a UK-based PR firm to produce and disemminate videos during the Iraq War A former contractor for a UK-based public relations firm says that the Pentagon paid more than half a billion dollars for the production and dissemination of fake Al-Qaeda videos that portrayed the insurgent group in a negative light. The Bureau of Investigative Journalism reported that the PR firm, Bell Pottinger, worked alongside top US military officials at Camp Victory in Baghdad at the height of the Iraq War. The agency was tasked with crafting TV segments in the style of unbiased Arabic news reports, videos of Al-Qaeda bombings that appeared to be filmed by insurgents, and anti-insurgent commercials – and those who watched the videos could be tracked by US forces. The report of Bell Pottinger’s involvement in the video hearkens back to more than 10 years ago, when the Washington-based PR firm Lincoln Group was revealed to have produced print news stories and placed them in Iraqi newspapers. According to the Los Angeles Times, who obtained the 2005 documents, the stories were intended to tout the US-led efforts in Iraq and denounce insurgent groups. Bell Pottinger was first tasked by the interim Iraqi government in 2004 to promote democratic elections. They received $540m between May 2007 and December 2011, but could have earned as much as $120m from the US in 2006. Lord Tim Bell, a former Bell Pottinger chairman, confirmed the existence of the contract with the Sunday Times. The Pentagon also confirmed that the agency was contracted under the Information Operations Task Force, but insisted that all material distributed was “truthful”. However, former video editor Martin Wells, who worked on the IOTF contract with Bell Pottinger, said they were given very specific instructions on how to produce the fake Al-Qaeda propaganda films. “We need to make this style of video and we’ve got to use Al-Qaeda’s footage,” Mr Wells told the Bureau, recalling the instructions he received. “We need it to be 10 minutes long, and it needs to be in this file format, and we need to encode it in this manner.” According to Mr Wells’ account, US Marines would then take CDs containing the videos while on patrol, then plant them at sites during raids.

An Stats NZ insider who spoke to me on condition of anonymity believes that if the public knew more about what the IDI holds about them, they might be nervous about the potential for government overreach. According to the source, getting IDI access does have a lot of controls and requires interviews and confidentiality training to access. But it also has weaknesses such as a lack of auditing for the researchers who might be accessing it. Usually, a research project gets access to only a specific dataset for analysis, but sometimes a researcher might be on multiple projects over the years and accumulate access to multiple datasets, they say. “No one checks to see if they are using their approved datasets for a specific project or not. It is up to the integrity and seniority of the researcher.” While researchers are required to sign NDAs, more than 100 data breaches had already occurred by 2023. I’ve asked Stats NZ for more up to date figures but they were unable to get back to me in time for publication. Also of concern, research from 2019 found that applications to use the IDI for research are reviewed internally by Stats NZ, with no mandatory external peer review or ethical approval across sectors. Furthermore, ethical standards for using IDI data vary across universities, government departments and private research entities. All of Stats NZ data gathering powers rely on social license. But surveys have shown that there is actually low public trust around Stats NZs ability to keep data safe or even that it considers the public’s views in its decision making. However, there may be considerably more reason to question the social license Stats NZ relies on today. Stats NZ is working on a project that will link statistical business, location and population registers into one overarching statistical register. As of yet there is no population register, but they are building it. The Everything Database: person-level tracking in real time, all the time A multi-part Official Information Act request from April 2024 has revealed that since 2022, an initiative called the Statistical Register has been underway with the goal of linking an upgraded version of the IDI with an existing location register (a list of addresses and addressable objects) and a 30-year-old business register (containing information on business profits, sector, age and size) via IRD tax data. Development consultants Allen + Clarke describe it as “unlocking high value”. In sector jargon, this Statistical Register would be the realisation of an ‘Integrated Statistical Data System’. What I have euphemistically called the ‘everything database’, because it is not far short of that. And as we will see, there is the potential to add all kinds of other data streams to this register, such as social media, supermarket spending or telecoms data for example. “The amount that could be controlled when you know someone’s political views and address and workplace and family history might be too much power for one organisation,” the insider says. Here’s the kicker: Once the business and location data are linked to the new IPS, they will have succeeded in creating a central register, with each person represented by a unique ID that can be tracked over time and tell a story about a person’s whole life, and even to track a person’s life events from birth. It’s referred to as a ‘Persistent Unique Identifier’ (PUI) in sector jargon. The end result is the Statistical Register (everything database) plus a permanent digital tag for every person. The event, which had not been advertised, was no corporate affair. This clandestine party had been organised by the Israeli embassy to celebrate the anniversary of Israel’s 77th Independence Day. Word of the event had been leaked and pro-Palestine protesters arrived outside the museum gates, where they were greeted by the Metropolitan Police – who penned them into a side street. Inside the museum, the Labour ministers in attendance could listen to entertainment by the host, Carr, while rubbing shoulders with prominent opposition politicians who had been invited to the exclusive bash. Among them was Nigel Farage – leader of Reform UK, which polls regularly indicate is the most popular party in the country. Also seen was Kemi Badenoch – leader of the Conservative party. It was quite a statement for these British politicians to attend an event at which the keynote speech was given by Israeli ambassador Tzipi Hotovely, who once called the Nakba an “Arab lie” and is an avowed opponent of the creation of a Palestinian state. More so, given that it has been less than a week since Israel’s security cabinet approved a plan to “capture” Gaza and hold its territory, and Israeli Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich vowed that Gaza would be entirely destroyed. Moreover, earlier on Tuesday, the British government was in court facing a legal challenge over its decision to allow the export of F-35 parts to a global pool that could eventually end up in Israeli jets. Hotovely is herself no stranger to controversy. She takes an interventionist approach to British politics.

His decision comes despite the petitions submitted to the High Court of Justice challenging the dismissal of the current Shin Bet director, Ronen Bar, which will be heard only on April 8. In fact, Netanyahu has restarted the chaos machine for which he is known. After all, this isn’t a functional appointment, and it certainly wasn’t made out of professional considerations or in good faith. It’s a political maneuver that put all the players into an impossible situation. That’s how he operates. With a single announcement, he’s managed both to needle the institutions and individuals he’s clashing with – the Supreme Court, the attorney general and the outgoing Shin Bet director – while also setting a trap for the opposition and the protest movement. He nominated a reasonable candidate who was even affiliated with the protests against the judicial overhaul, apparently so that members of his governing coalition would oppose the appointment. That created a dilemma for the protest activists and the opposition. Should they defend Sharvit because he is being attacked over his support for the protests, or should they oppose his appointment because it was a provocation against the legal proceedings that are still underway on the issue of Bar’s dismissal? Moreover, all this is happening against the background of Qatargate, which escalated on Monday when police arrested Yonatan Urich and Eli Feldstein and summoned Netanyahu to testify in the case. From the moment Sharvit’s appointment was announced, Netanyahu could relax in his chair and watch the angry reactions from every side with glee. And indeed, what hasn’t happened? The Movement for Quality Government in Israel, one of the petitioners against Bar’s dismissal, issued a statement saying the announcement of Sharvit’s appointment a week before the court hearing on the petitions was “an attempt to create facts on the ground.

Gen Sir Gwyn Jenkins led UK Special Forces (UKSF) in Afghanistan at a time when alleged war crimes were committed. He later appointed a UKSF officer under his command, who had also served in Afghanistan, to assess the Afghan commando applications after special forces headquarters was given a controversial veto over them. Thousands of applications from individuals with credible evidence of service with Afghan Special Forces, including the units known as the Triples, were then rejected, leaving many of the former commandos at the mercy of the Taliban. The rejections are controversial because they came at a time when a judge-led public inquiry in the UK had begun investigating the SAS for alleged war crimes on operations on which the Triples were present. If the Afghan commandos were in the UK, they could be called as witnesses – but the inquiry has no power to compel testimony from foreign nationals who are overseas. Some of those denied visas were subsequently tortured and killed by the Taliban, according to former colleagues, family members and lawyers. According to internal emails and testimony from within the Ministry of Defence (MoD), obtained by Panorama, the UK Special Forces officer appointed by Gen Jenkins stood over civil service caseworkers from the resettlement scheme and instructed them to reject the Triples applications, one after another, on what sources described as spurious grounds. Biggin Hill airport bosses knocked down a 1940s building and arranged for some of its parts to be exported to the United States, despite Bromley Council chiefs refusing to give permission. Known as the Dispersal Hut, the wooden building was thought to be one of just two original structures at the airport dating back to the Battle of Britain. Prof Jeremy Black, author of World War Two in 100 Maps, described the demolition as “deeply depressing”. “It is a valuable and valued testimony to our nation’s greatest moment of bravery and fortitude in the face of deadly peril,” he said. “That this happens when that heroic generation is passing away casts a dark shadow over our present.” Now the council has threatened to evict Biggin Hill’s bosses, who have promised to rebuild the structure. Biggin Hill, which is about 15 miles south-east of London, was a front-line Royal Air Force (RAF) station during the Second World War and played a pivotal role in the capital’s defence. Place to unwind Squadrons of Spitfires and Hurricanes based there were part of RAF Fighter Command’s successful defeat of Nazi Germany’s attempts to bomb Britain into submission during 1940. A Bromley Council spokesperson said: “The council took legal action following the demolition of a building of historic importance by our tenant. The airport is home to invaluable heritage connected to the Battle of Britain. “When it quickly became clear that the historic building was no longer in situ and parts were being prepared for export to the USA, the council had to act quickly to protect the position.”

Louis Theroux embeds himself in the West Bank, meeting prominent settlers – including the ‘godmother’ of the movement, Daniella Weiss – and travelling throughout the territory to understand the consequences of their activity. Louis also meets Palestinians whose lives have been impacted by settlers moving into their communities. As the world focuses on Gaza, where at least 50,000 Palestinians are estimated to have been killed by Israeli forces since 7 October, Louis discovers that the settlers are already making plans to move into that territory, too.

In a post on X, Iranian foreign minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi said: “Iran in no uncertain terms categorically rejects any involvement in such actions and confirms that we have not been informed of any allegations via proper diplomatic channels. “Iran has urged the UK to engage so that we may assist any probe into credible allegations. Timing and lack of engagement suggest that something is amiss.” Mr Araghchi said there had been a “history of third parties bent on derailing diplomacy” and “provoking escalation resorting to desperate measures, including false flag operations”. “Iran stands ready to engage to shed light on what has truly transpired, and we reiterate that UK authorities should afford our citizens due process,” he said. Commander Dominic Murphy, head of the Met’s counter-terrorism command, said: “There are significant operational reasons why we cannot provide further information at this time. “As soon as possible we will look to share further details and in the meantime we would ask the public to remain vigilant and contact us if you have any concerns.” The Israeli embassy has been approached for comment. Dugin said Trump’s America has a lot more in common with Putin’s Russia than most people think, adding: “Trumpists and the followers of Trump will understand much better what Russia is, who Putin is and the motivations of our politics.” Dugin made his name by espousing Russian nationalist and traditionalist – including antisemitic – themes, and publishing extensively on the centrality of Russia in world civilisation. So, this endorsement should be a warning of the disruptive nature of the Trump White House. It implies that Dugin believes Trump’s policies support Russian interests. Dugin began his career as an anti-communist activist in the 1980s. This was less because of an ideological antipathy for communism than his rejection of the internationalism that the Communist Party of the Soviet Union espoused. He also criticised the party for breaking from traditional – especially religious – values. Dugin proposes what he calls a “fourth political theory”. The first three, he claims, are Marxism, fascism and liberalism – all of which he thinks contain elements of error, especially their rejection of tradition and the subordination of culture to scientific thought. Dugin’s fourth political theory takes pieces from all three and discards the elements with which Dugin disagrees, especially the dwindling importance of traditional family and culture. The culmination is a melange of ideas that sometimes appear Marxist and sometimes fascist, but which always centre on the criticality of traditional Russian culture. His founding philosophy is traditionalism, which he views as a strength of Russia. Thus, he has become a strong supporter of the country’s president, Vladimir Putin, who emphasises traditional Russian values. Dugin and Putin align in their criticism of liberalist anti-religious individualism, which they claim destroys the values and culture on which society is based.
