US pulling out of Intermediate Nuclear Forces (INF) treaty: BBC’s Jonathan Marcus – is the treaty dead? What will NATO do in response? CULPRIT? The Russian 9M729 missile: The U.S. government says the new Russian missile violates provisions of the pact that ban production, testing and deployment of land-based cruise and ballistic missiles with a range of 310 to 3,400 miles.  Russian Lt. Gen. Mikhail Matveevsky, the chief of the military’s missile and artillery forces, said at a meeting with foreign military attaches that the new missile has a maximum range of 298 miles. Jens Stoltenberg, Secretary General of NATO, on the treaties, Russia’s non-compliance, and NATOs response to this;  NATO has short range missiles aimed at Moscow;  NATO considering European missile upgrade: NATO military officials are exploring whether to upgrade their defenses to make them capable of shooting down newly deployed Russian intermediate-range nuclear missiles after a landmark arms treaty dissolves next month, according to three European officials. Any change to the stated mission of NATO’s current missile defense system — aimed at threats from outside the region, like Iran — would probably divide the alliance’s member countries and enrage Russia, which has long said it views NATO’s missile defense site in Romania and one under construction in Poland as a threat to its nuclear arsenal and a source of instability in Europe.

  1. Around 24:00 minute mark on the bcfm player , new eu president Ursula von der Leyen states ” The cornerstone of our collective defense will always be NATO . We will stay transatlantic and we have to become more European . This is why we created the European Defense Union ” . She sounds like most politicians , speaking from every corner of her mouth to please various countries and factions in the EU and externally saying what the US wants to hear . Being an American I know all to well that NATO is directed by the US , is not for defense but for aggression . I would hope in meetings with the various mep’s they would play the US off of Russia and vice versa regarding diplomacy , trade, defense etc .
