Residents of Clifton Downs are urging the van dwellers to vacate, citing instances of a minority disposing of toilet waste in drains, gardens, and bushes. Article continues below The man fired back at the woman’s assertion that he shouldn’t be living on the city’s open parkland, saying: “Why shouldn’t I? What’s it got to do with you?” The woman responded with a single word – ‘attitude’ – prompting the man to say: “No! It’s called standing up for rights.” Tensions ran high during a BBC report from Clifton Down, where numerous individuals have made their homes in vans, caravans, and motorhomes along roads bordering the green space. Those living in vans offer a range of reasons for their lifestyle choice. Some view it as a deliberate decision, while others point to Bristol’s exorbitant rents, housing costs, and living expenses as leaving them without alternative options. Additionally, certain individuals face specific vulnerabilities. A Facebook group, Protect the Downs, has been established by locals, with former RAF serviceman Tony Nelson at the helm, reports the Express. In an interview with the BBC, Mr Nelson said that the few responsible van dwellers have never posed an issue but he claims this is not representative of the entire group. Nelson said: “This used to be famous across the country. “I was aware of the Bristol Downs even when I lived in East Anglia, so I know it was once a treasured spot. Now, it’s become a sink.” Van dweller Danny, who chose only to share his first name, slammed some of the posts in a Facebook group as ‘absolutely ludicrous’, claiming they almost amount to hate crime. Speaking with the BBC, he revealed that over time he’s contributed £35,000 in business rates through arts and events companies he has administered. Bristol is home to approximately 680 vehicles being used as dwellings, which can be found parked on roadsides, private properties, occupied encampments, and council-run sites—these spots provide crucial amenities like water, loos, and waste disposal. The city council says it is actively working on devising strategies to both aid van dwellers and attend to the concerns of the local populace….

Later on Wednesday, the party was handed another polling lead, this time from More In Common. Reform has never polled this highly – though it reached 26 per cent in the same month in June 2019 as the Brexit Party Fresh data released by YouGov this morning has revealed that 29 per cent of Britons would vote Reform if a General Election were held tomorrow Reacting to that data, which projected that 27 per cent of Britons would vote for Reform UK at a General Election, deputy leader Richard Tice said: “Another record Reform poll… [and] these are before the latest Labour mass immigration blunder.”

Labour mutiny looming over new wave of benefits cuts Senior party figures have warned Downing Street over further reduction in the welfare budget Rebel Labour MPs have warned Sir Keir Starmer of widespread concern across the party over plans to impose deeper cuts to the welfare budget in the autumn. The Prime Minister and his Chancellor, Rachel Reeves, risk sparking a major rebellion within their own party ranks over plans to slash the benefits bill by more than the £5bn announced in the Green Paper in March. Labour activists and MPs said the decision to slash the welfare budget, along with the removal of the universal winter fuel payment to pensioners, was repeatedly brought up on the doorstep ahead of last week’s drubbing in the local elections and the Runcorn by-election defeat. And backbenchers have warned the Government would be met with a significant rebellion when changes to the benefits system are voted on in the Commons in June. “There’s going to be a vote on the Green Paper proposals and there will be a very big crunch,” one rebel MP told The i Paper. “There is genuine concern in the party – and that is right across the party, not just among certain MPs – that the Green Paper proposals on disability and long-term health benefits are wrong and totally flawed,” the MP added. “If it turns out that this is just the start and there are more cuts coming down the line that will hit people even harder, that runs counter to the suggestion that the party is listening after last week’s results and having a rethink.” Rachel Maskell, Labour MP for York Central, who has become among the most vocal critics of the welfare cuts, said: “In the light that people are struggling with the cost of living on social security, then further cuts will only result in more people living in poverty and greater inequality. “The injustice of the safety net being cut, when the Labour Party was formed to protect the vulnerable who were scapegoated and ignored, will not go unnoticed. The Labour Party has a special responsibility to protect the poorest and people who have faced multiple challenges in their lives.”

Revealed: Britain’s Labour Government Sent 8,000 “Munitions of War” to Israel After Saying It Had Stopped Matt Kennard After the UK adopted a new policy that it would not allow any weapons shipments that could be used in Gaza, Britain’s Labour government allowed the export of 8,630 separate munitions to Israel. The information is revealed in a new report, based on Israeli Tax Authority data, conducted by the Palestinian Youth Movement, Progressive International, and Workers for a Free Palestine and shared with Drop Site News. The report reveals four separate shipments from the UK to Ben Gurion Airport in Tel Aviv between September 2024 and February 2025. The Department for Business and Trade, which oversees British arms exports, refused to specify what the deliveries contained. A UK government spokesman instead told Drop Site, “In September, we suspended export licenses to Israel for items used in military operations in Gaza. Our remaining licenses relate to non-military items, military items for civilian use or not for use in military operations in Gaza, or components for items for re-export to other countries.” But the Israeli authorities categorized the items delivered as “Bombs, Grenades, Torpedoes, Mines, Missiles And Similar Munitions Of War And Parts Thereof.” In September 2024, a flight carrying 528 items in this category arrived in Israel from the UK. In November, a flight carrying a further 4,500 munitions arrived. The following January and February, UK flights carrying 3,602 individual munitions were delivered. The Israeli imports are organized by month and use customs codes to identify the type of product being delivered. The UK government is facing calls for transparency and a full arms embargo on Israel from organizers and politicians alike. The Palestinian Youth Movement (PYM), which co-authored the new report, is demanding the UK government release a complete account of the shipments and calling for an immediate and total arms embargo on Israel. Jeanine Hourani, a representative of the PYM, told Drop Site, “These findings confirm what we already knew: Britain is complicit in the genocide of our people. But, while the government enables the flow of weapons for war and ethnic cleansing, the British people stand with Gaza.” “Our movement must continue to apply pressure and use this new evidence to escalate,” she added. “We will continue to build with left forces, trade unionists, and people of conscience to enact a people’s arms embargo and end Britain’s collaboration in the genocide.” Next week, the UK High Court will hear a case on the UK’s role in supplying weapons to Israel.

In May 2019 engineers at WhatsApp discovered a zero-click, zero-day vulnerability in the Meta-owned chat platform that would allow an attacker to install malware on a device with just a single phone call and no requirement on the victim to do anything other than have their handheld switched on. The surveillanceware in question was Pegasus, developed by the NSO Group. Pegasus is carefully designed to use zero-day vulnerabilities to infect handsets, ideally without any user interaction. Once on a phone, it has access to all and any data the devices contain, including phone records, emails, messages, and video, as well as the location of the device. It can even let its operator turn on the handset’s camera and microphone for clandestine recording. Pegasus compromised around 1,400 WhatsApp accounts, and WhatsApp’s engineers patched the flaw within days. But it’s very unwise to f**k with billionaire Meta supremo Mark Zuckerberg; he unleashed the lawyers, who filed a lawsuit against NSO that October. UK’s answer to DARPA sprouts new ideas, like programmable plants The UK’s Advanced Research and Invention Agency (ARIA) has appointed a second tranche of program leaders and announced new program areas, suggesting confidence in its long-term funding. Programmable plants, living system energy flows, and bio-security are all on the menu as the DARPA clone enters its third year. Brainchild of former prime ministerial advisor Dominic Cummings, ARIA was first announced in a policy statement in March 2021. It was earmarked for £800 million investment in the budget and was set to be modeled on the principles of the US Advanced Research Projects Agency (ARPA), now renamed DARPA (Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency). ARPA was behind ARPAnet, a precursor to the internet. It got off to a slow start and was not formally established until January 2023. In autumn last year, the House of Lords Science and Technology Committee questioned the long-term funding for ARIA as the Labour government grapples with a historic spending squeeze. A member of the UK’s upper chamber pointed out ARIA’s initial funding would see it through to the end of the 2025/26 financial year. Anything beyond that would depend on the outcome of the five-year spending review, set to be announced in June. At the time, ARIA chair Matt Clifford said: “The multi-year spending review will be a really important moment for ARIA. I think we’re starting from a position of strength in having broad cross-party support right from inception.” ARIA has now announced a its second set of program directors to head up new subject areas, and posted new opportunities for funding. Among the new program directors is Nathan Wolfe, who is set to research energy flows in living systems by studying mitochondria, elements of cells that generate energy. Another new program director, Nicole Wheeler, is set to use AI to scrape millions of published scientific papers to identify possible risk warnings in bio-security. Hunter Biden’s emails have revealed that he actually funded bioweapon labs in Ukraine, an accusation which Russia made on Thursday. Emails from Hunter Biden’s laptop, which is abandoned now, have shown he helped secure millions of dollars of funding for Pentagon contractor Metabiota specializing in research on pandemic-causing diseases that could be used as bioweapons. Hunter introduced Metabiota to Burisma, an allegedly corrupt Ukrainian gas firm, in connection to a science project which involved high biosecurity level labs in Ukraine. In 2014, the vice president of Metbiota, ostensibly a medical data company, sent a mail to Hunter emphasizing that they could assert Ukraine’s cultural and economic independence from Russia. Hunter’s emails have shown that he had a prominent role in ensuring Metabiota was able to conduct its pathogen research just a few hundred miles from the border with Russia and the project turned into a national security liability for Ukraine when Russian forces invaded the country last month, reported Daily Mail. Deep Military Intelligence Now, Russia’s accusations of US-backed bioweapons labs have turned out to be true as Hunter’s emails have shown Metabiota has worked in Ukraine for Black & Veatch. The company is a Pentagon contractor and has deep ties to US military intelligence agencies, which built secure labs in Ukraine analyzing killer diseases and bioweapons. Emails between Hunter and his colleagues excitedly discuss how the company’s monitoring of medical data could become an essential tool for governments and companies looking to spot outbreaks of infectious diseases. Notably, Metabiota has close ties to the Wuhan Institute of Virology (WIV), a Chinese lab in Wuhan which is believed to be the origin of COVID-19. The institute had earlier been controversial for ‘gain of function’ research which aimed to create super-strength viruses. According to Daily Mail, Chinese scientists performed gain of function research on coronaviruses at the WIV, working alongside a US-backed organization EcoHealth Alliance that has since drawn intense scrutiny over its coronavirus research since the COVID-19 pandemic. Researchers from the Wuhan institute, Metabiota and EcoHealth Alliance published a study together in 2014 on infectious diseases from bats in China, which notes that tests were performed at the WIV.

In her interview with Kelly, Gabbard pointed to NIH grants that went to gain-of-function research to make a case that such research led to the pandemic. “In the case of the Wuhan lab, as well as many other bio labs around the world, was actually U.S. funded, and leads to this dangerous kind of research that in many examples has resulted in either a pandemic or some other major health crisis,” Gabbard said. Kennedyn argued that a lab leak following U.S.-funded research caused the pandemic in his 2023 book, “The Wuhan Cover-Up: And the Terrifying Bioweapons Arms Race.” Bhattacharya has said regulating risky research is among his top priorities as NIH director. While the CIA said earlier this year that Covid was more likely to have originated in a lab, it also said that it had “low confidence” in that assessment and would continue to evaluate any new evidence. Two years ago, the FBI said it favored the lab leak theory with moderate confidence, while the Energy Department also said in 2023 it thought, with low confidence, that a lab leak was more likely. The National Intelligence Council, which advises the director of national intelligence, favored the natural origin theory during the Biden administration. Gabbard doesn’t share that view. “In order to prevent another Covid-like pandemic or another major health incident that could affect us in the world, we have to end this gain-of-function research,” she said.

It was awarded for £1 billion in 2023. This is the largest contract by Bristol City Council on Proactis. It is the equal largest on the site for all authorites. Marvin Rees has declared he is being paid by Ameresco on his first declaration of interests at the House of Lords. The last mayor of Bristol has been forced to add to his interests, the directorship of his company, Three and Two Ltd, which he describes as a “personal services company for the member’s consultancy work and public speaking”. The clients of Three and Two Ltd are as follows: Ameresco, Inc. (energy) who were given a £12 billion contract by Rees’s administration, in a consortium with Vattenfall for City Leap. Cambridge Management Consulting, which is the company where ex-Deputy Mayor Craig Cheney is a partner; Empire Fighting Chance, to which Rees gave land worth £1.35m for free for 999 years, and didn’t declare it in his register of interests, and Mayors Migration Council, the University of Pennsylvania, and the Overseas Development Institute. While mayor of Bristol, Rees had the power to decide on £12 billion contracts but was not forced to disclose his interests in any meaningful way. As a peer in the House of Lords, he has also had to declare he is a landlord of two residential properties in Bristol. As mayor, he did not declare it. In fact, the monitoring officer tried to get a dispensation for declarations of being a landlord for all members. He failed to do so but the landlords still avoided declaring (another story for a different day). Empire Fighting Chance In October 2022, I wrote about how the Rees Labour administration gave away council land for 999 years, at no cost, to a club the mayor was associated with. I pursued this for two years and made a complaint to the auditors. A weak recommendation came through to audit in 2024. Now, however, outside the weak scrutiny of local government, Rees has had to declare a pecuniary interest in at least two companies that benefited from his decision-making while in power. The City Leap involvement is worth much more than the land for EFC. In 2021, the Labour administration — headed by Rees — signed a 20 year deal worth an estimated £12 billion then. The ascension of the Reverend Rees to the House of Lords will not leave him short of cash and having to rely on just the £361 per day in attendance allowance with travel expenses and subsidised restaurant facilities. Weca’s chief executive told staff in an email seen by the BBC that Mr Norris’ building access has been deactivated, and his access to the IT system has been removed. Mr Norris’ term as mayor comes to an end in three weeks when elections are held on 1 May. The BBC has contacted Mr Norris for comment. He is not standing as a candidate after rules preventing MPs holding second jobs were introduced. Stephen Peacock, Weca’s chief executive, said Mr Norris has been informed he should not enter the building, in the Redcliffe area of in Bristol, or attend any meetings on behalf of the authority. Mr Peacock also said mayor’s access to Parliament has been revoked. Mr Norris has not been suspended as mayor because “there is no provision” under Weca’s constitution for this action. Avon and Somerset Police previously said “most of the offences are alleged to have occurred in the 2000s but we are also investigating an alleged offence of rape from the 2020s”. The Labour party immediately suspended Mr Norris following his arrest A statement from the leaders of Bristol City Council, South Gloucestershire Council, and Bath & North East Somerset Council – which all sit on Weca – said: “At our respective councils, we have taken steps to ensure that any staff who may have been affected have access to the appropriate support.” The statement added they “look forward to working with the new mayor after 1 May”. The Labour Party said it “immediately suspended” Mr Norris after being made aware of his arrest. The suspension means Mr Norris has also had the party whip suspended, meaning he is not able to sit as a Labour MP in the Commons.

The term itself was taken from a Soviet scientist named Alexei Yurchak, who introduced it in his 2006 book, Everything Was Forever, Until It Was No More: The Last Soviet Generation, as a way of explaining the uncanny normalcy bias effect that had gripped Soviet citizens living amidst a decaying political system. More specifically: He says everyone in the Soviet Union knew the system was failing, but no one could imagine any alternative to the status quo, and politicians and citizens alike were resigned to maintaining the pretense of a functioning society. Over time, the mass delusion became a self-fulfilling prophecy, with everyone accepting it as the new norm rather than pretend, an effect Yurchak termed hypernormalisation. The definition of self-fulfilling prophecy can be viewed in the vein of Nick Land’s hyperstition: hyperstition (plural hyperstitions) A cultural belief (especially a work of fiction) that makes itself real; a cultural self-fulfilling prophecy where some cultural idea or hype truly brings about the thing it describes. In echoes of the USSR, the Adam Curtis documentary explains, our modern Western societies have slowly devolved into this state of what he calls hypernormalization—from the description: HyperNormalisation is a 2016 BBC documentary by British filmmaker Adam Curtis. But getting back to the core theme: that the post-war order ‘ran out of steam’ and resigned to merely the upkeep of a kind of ‘Potemkin society’, the illusion of which is kept ‘stabilized by neoliberal governments.’ The documentary’s opening heavily centers on Kissinger as a central role player and wire puller of the initial thrust to mold society in the globalists’ utopian image. This excerpt should ring familiar for people used to seeing its echoes repeated today by figures like Klaus Schwab, who was in fact Kissinger’s protégé: Listen to what he’s saying, these dislocations will allow us—the globalists—to, for the first time in history, create a ‘truly global society’. Yarvin is an engineer-turned-philosopher, an institutional hacker who wants to rewrite the code of government. Land is a post-human thinker, fascinated by AI, entropy, and deregulated markets as forces that obliterate all order. For Yarvin, the remedy is digital monarchy; for Land, it is liberatory catastrophe. One wants to replace democracy with authority, the other to accelerate it into oblivion. The paradox is that both end up converging on the same vision of the future: a world without participation, without popular sovereignty, without shared morality. A world where power no longer answers to consent but to speed, efficiency, and control. This is the dark heart of the Dark Enlightenment: not a mere reaction to liberalism, but its cold, calculated negation. In the comparison between Yarvin and Land, we glimpse a new grammar of post-democratic power: technocratic, authoritarian, post-human. It is not a return to the past, but a leap into the void—rationalized, theorized, and designed. And for that reason, all the more dangerous.

A second name that crops up in connection to Trumpworld’s philosophy is that of Nick Land, an Englishman and former academic. Together, the pair have come to be recognised as the twin eminences of a predominantly online movement known as neoreaction or the Dark Enlightenment. Seeing references to Land transports me back to the early 1990s, when I spent a year studying for a master’s degree in philosophy at the University of Warwick. He was then a charismatic young lecturer, not yet the dark magus of anti-democratic neoreaction that he is today. In those days, Land described himself as a “delirial engineer” — a follower of marginal thinkers such as the French writer Georges Bataille, who sought to liberate the forces of unconscious desire that the rationalism of the Enlightenment was meant to hold in check. His work was also a celebration of capitalism, or rather of the fearsome power of the market to dissolve settled ways of life. Accelerating capitalism could usher in a new set of social relations, he believed, or hasten the “singularity” in which the biological and technological merge. As the Nineties wore on his behaviour became increasingly erratic. He started living in his office on campus. He eventually left his academic post in 1998 and moved to China. I didn’t hear of him again until 2011, when a small independent publisher put out a collection of his essays called Fanged Noumena. The years spent overseas had left their mark. What once looked like a tactical embrace of the market had turned into veneration of a “globally ascendant Sino-capitalism”. In a breathless paean to the “turbo-charged Shanghai economy” he rhapsodised about a “perfect complicity between radical innovation and profound conservatism”. Over the next few years his theories gained traction among the US-based far-right. During the first Trump administration, as journalists started to cite Land in their attempts to understand the “alt-right”, I tracked him down. In an email exchange he told me that China and east Asian statelets like Hong Kong or Singapore came closest to what he regarded as a model of “competent government”. He has also praised their lack of “social terror”, which he attributes to ethnically homogenous populations. Land, like Yarvin, believes the ideal state should function like a business. According to this theory, which Yarvin calls “neocameralism”, a properly constituted state is one that has been cured of democracy. Its guiding principle is “no voice, free exit”: the residents or clients (not citizens) of such a state have no rights, but do have the ability to take their custom elsewhere. One of the touchstones for Land and others on what is sometimes called the “techno-commercial” wing of neoreaction is an article written in 2009 by the Silicon Valley billionaire and now prominent Donald Trump supporter Peter Thiel (who also happens to have been an investor in Yarvin’s start-up, Urbit). “I no longer believe that freedom and democracy are compatible,” Thiel wrote.

It’s about AI, Charles Manson, dubstep, Neo-Nazis, occultism, and a lot of amphetamine, but it’s mainly about Nicholas Land. In 1993, techno-feminist Sadie Plant set up a research unit in the philosophy department at Warwick University called the Cybernetic Culture Research Unit (CCRU). It wasn’t a ‘real’ academic centre — it didn’t have a large grant or any institutional status, it was just a piece of paper on a door. But the name drew people into its vortex. The dominant influence in the CCRU became a 30-year-old mid-career researcher called Nick Land — a fan of continental critical theorists like Deleuze, Guattari and George Bataille. Land and the CCRU mixed together cyberpunk, science-fiction, cryptocurrency, drugs and post-humanism, drained it through the mesh of continental theory, and created Accelerationism. Guardian journalist Andy Beckett has a good definition: Accelerationists argue that technology, particularly computer technology, and capitalism, particularly the most aggressive, global variety, should be massively sped up and intensified — either because this is the best way forward for humanity, or because there is no alternative. Accelerationists favour automation. They favour the further merging of the digital and the human. They often favour the deregulation of business, and drastically scaled-back government. They believe that people should stop deluding themselves that economic and technological progress can be controlled. They often believe that social and political upheaval has a value in itself. Accelerationalism began life as the British cousin of the Californian philosophy of Extropianism, which also began in the early 1990s (as I wrote here). There’s a similar anarcho-libertarianism, hyper-capitalism, worship of new technology and expectation of a sudden leap beyond the human. But this wasn’t California, it was Coventry — and Accelerationism was much darker and more nihilistic than Californian transhumanism. After all, Land’s first book was called ‘Thirst for Annihilation’. Land has said: ‘I have no interest in human liberation, or liberation of the human species. I’m interested in liberation of the means of production’.

Despite legal warnings from the State Attorney’s Office that unilateral cancellation could require Spain to pay the full contract value without receiving the goods, Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez revoked the import license, effectively nullifying the deal. Sources inside the Interior Ministry confirmed that the minister initially resisted the cancellation, citing binding legal obligations—until Sánchez himself publicly overruled him. This is a government of usurpers clinging to power at any cost. They are willing to break a signed, published contract and force Spanish taxpayers to pay the penalty—just to preserve a fragile coalition built on anti-Western ideology. Critics from across the political spectrum warned that the consequences could extend far beyond this single shipment. Hermann Tertsch, Member of the European Parliament from the right-wing VOX party, accused the government of ideological sabotage. “This is a government of usurpers clinging to power at any cost,” he told The Media Line. “They are willing to break a signed, published contract and force Spanish taxpayers to pay the penalty—just to preserve a fragile coalition built on anti-Western ideology.” According to Tertsch, Spain has now “broadcast a message of legal insecurity to every defense partner,” and the result, he argued, will be “a profound erosion of Spain’s credibility on the international stage.” The Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a formal condemnation, calling the cancellation a breach of international norms. Yet amid the storm of diplomatic and political rhetoric, security experts are urging the public to consider the quieter—but more impactful consequences: those unfolding in armories, supply chains, and logistics departments.

Brexit didn’t make much difference to UK economy.  Reeves cannot blame Trump for British growth downgrade, warns IMF Chancellor vows to defend British interests in Washington as UK economic forecasts slashed Szu Ping Chan Britain’s growth prospects have been cut by the International Monetary Fund (IMF) as it warned Rachel Reeves could not blame Donald Trump’s trade war for the downturn. The IMF said UK government policies were stoking price pressures and would push Britain’s inflation rate to the highest in the G7. It means inflation in the UK will outstrip the US rate even as the president continues his tariffs onslaught. Pierre Olivier Gourinchas, the IMF chief economist, said “domestic factors” were the main driver behind Britain’s downgrade, signalling that the Chancellor’s £40bn tax raid had damaged growth. The UK is now expected to grow by 1.1pc this year and 1.4pc in 2026, down from projections of 1.6pc and 1.5pc just three months ago. In a further blow to Labour’s ambition to boost living standards, the IMF also said that GDP per head – a better proxy than overall growth – would almost stagnate this year and barely rise in 2026. Mr Gourinchas said: “The tariffs are playing a role as they are in most countries, and it’s weighing down on growth in the UK. But there are some UK specific factors, and I would say in terms of the [downgrade for 2025] domestic factors are probably the biggest ones.” Mr Gourinchas said “weaker growth in the second half of last year” was still weighing on the economy, noting that long-term borrowing costs had also climbed. Gilt yields rose in the wake of Ms Reeves’s maiden budget after the Chancellor announced debt-fuelled spending increases of £70bn a year. The Fund also downgraded its global growth projections over the next two years, warning that the trade war could wipe as much as $1 trillion (£750bn) off the world economy. The IMF said higher prices owing to steep increases in energy, water and council tax bills would weigh on consumer spending. While the Fund said the impact of recent tariff announcements would weigh on growth, it added that “an increase in gilt yields, and weaker private consumption amid higher inflation as a result of regulated prices and energy costs” for the decision to cut its UK growth forecasts.

Was Robin Cook’s death suspicious?  To the Attorney-General of the UK The Rt.Hon Richard Hermer KC re: the absence of a proper inquest into the death of David Kelly CMG DSc in July 2003 Published: 22 July 2024 Dear Lord Hermer First, I would like to offer my congratulations on your recent appointment to the post of Attorney-General. I write to you in this regard. On 17 February 2009 you invited me, together with some other doctors, to visit you at Doughty Street chambers to discuss the death of Dr David Kelly. We set out our concerns about the manner in which the state had dealt with this tragedy and explained to you our doubts that it was investigated rigorously. As you know, the coroner’s inquest into Dr Kelly’s death was – uniquely – subsumed into the ad hoc inquiry chaired by Lord Hutton, who concluded that Dr Kelly took his own life in July 2003. This is the only time in British legal history that a coroner’s inquest into a single death has been adjourned using Section 17A of the 1988 Coroners Act so that a non-statutory public inquiry could be held instead. The lawful process of the opening of a coroner’s inquest did not happen. The cart was put before a well tried and respected horse. Careful analysis over many years by the group of doctors of which I was a member – plus the work of various lawyers, parliamentarians and investigative journalists – has found how woefully inadequate Lord Hutton’s non-statutory public inquiry was. To name just a handful of its deficiencies: Lord Hutton failed to call key witnesses to give evidence to his inquiry; yet those witnesses who were called were not required to give evidence on oath. We now know that there were no fingerprints on the knife Kelly allegedly used to end his life – even though he wasn’t wearing gloves on the day his body was found. (This was never mentioned at the Hutton Inquiry even though it was known to Thames Valley Police at the time the Hutton Inquiry hearings took place). Lord Hutton spent only half a day of the 24 days on which his inquiry sat examining the medical evidence relating to Dr Kelly’s death. And Lord Hutton failed to consider the crucial matter – incumbent upon every coroner – of whether Dr Kelly intended to commit suicide. I must stress that the above list is not exhaustive. It is designed to underscore the point that, legally speaking, Lord Hutton’s ad hoc inquiry was less independent and less thorough than a coroner’s inquest would have been, with disastrous results. The high bar that a coroner would have had to clear in order to reach a suicide finding in the matter of Dr Kelly’s death was simply absent from the Hutton Inquiry. When we met you at your chambers in 2009, we were being helped pro bono by Leigh Day & Co. Knowing you to be a man of truth and integrity, Frances Swaine, of that firm, advised us to consult you. Your sympathetic view was that we should focus on the first cause of death advanced by Lord Hutton – “haemorrhage from a cut left ulnar artery” – as originally written by a Home Office pathologist, Dr Nicholas Hunt, and also to judicially review the then Attorney General, Baroness Scotland, rather than JR her refusal to instigate an inquest. You may know that with wide public support a hearing was eventually held at the High Court in December 2011 – Halpin v Regina. In total, about five hours were spent in plea and defence. At the hearing’s conclusion, Mr Justice Nicol read out from 19 pages of text and determined that the Attorney General of the day – Dominic Grieve – had been right to refuse an inquest into Dr Kelly’s death in 2011. And there, the matter of Dr Kelly’s unnatural death has most unsatisfactorily remained, for Mr Grieve’s decision was no more than a distant echo of Lord Hutton’s original finding. I am aware that Britain’s legal system is facing many crises, especially in the criminal and family justice courts and in terms of prison capacity. Yet public trust in our country’s law enforcement, and what follows in the courts, has withered. Specifically, many British citizens – including some Appeal Court judges – do not believe that Dr Kelly’s death was adequately investigated at Lord Hutton’s inquiry. This has left a cloud of suspicion hanging over this troubling and vital matter. For this reason I am calling upon you to kindly consider allowing a full coroner’s inquest into Dr Kelly’s death to be held in order to resolve this situation for once and for all. My understanding is that you alone as Attorney-General, has the power to do this. To lose their empire would be the worst possible humiliation.’ Quickly learning English, he got a place at the London School of Economics (LSE), which had then moved temporarily to Cambridge to avoid the bombing, and there he was taught politics by Harold Laski, a giant of Labour’s Left, whom some Tories considered to be a dangerous Marxist revolutionary. Laski was Miliband’s mentor, his inspiration, the figure who encouraged his growing interest in Karl Marx. Ralph Miliband then served three years in the Royal Navy, returning when the war was over to his studies at the LSE, and within a few years was teaching there himself. The health ministry does not distinguish between civilians and combatants in its count. Throughout the war, the Pope has condemned both Hamas and Israeli attacks and called for an immediate ceasefire and for a two-state solution.

The deproscription of Hamas is a concrete step which the Secretary of State can take to start to apply pressure on the Zionist State to cease its genocidal violence, end its occupation, and dismantle its apartheid regime. The designation of the entirety of Hamas has helped to curtail progress towards peace as it marginalised a key actor to the conflict, prevented any chance of meaningful dialogue with the de facto authorities on the ground, highlighted the hypocrisy of the West regarding democracy and human rights, and overall contributed to the pressure-cooker conditions that led to the explosion of violence on 7 October 2023. But even if the Secretary of State continues British support for the Zionist State, she should stop criminalising the open discussion of and support for the right to self-determination of the Palestinian people and the use of armed struggle pursuant to that right by Hamas. The censoring of views and information with which the Secretary of State disagrees runs against all notions of the rights to free speech and freedom of assembly. Indeed, using the criminal law to silence those on the other side of a political debate is an affront to self-professed British values of individual liberty and the rule of law. For all the reasons set out above, the Secretary of State is invited to reverse course and deproscribe Hamas.

Evidence Israel has been using illegal Depleted Uranium warheads in Beirut against Lebanon: Dr. Chris Busby has tested samples of dust from Lebanon where Nasrallah was killed – and it contains Uranium! Dr Chris Busby: Uranium hot particles found in Israel Lebanon bomb debris from Dahiye (Nasrallah) site – Soil samples from the site of the Israeli bombing of the Dahiye Beirut Lebanon bunker where Hassan Nasrallah was killed in September 2024 were analysed using CR39 Alpha Track imaging plastic for a 30 day exposure.  Results showed the presence of Uranium hot particles. These particles are shown as CR39 images, and the method of analysis is described by Dr Busby.  He also discusses the importance of the existence of these Uranium weapons residues in the air as a both a local and global public health (cancer and genetic damage) issue. A scientific report is to be found on www.researchgate.com and www.academia.edu. The analysis shows for the first time scientific evidence that micron-sized Uranium particles, created by the use of Uranium weapons, are self re-suspended and become aerosolised, something that Dr Busby has argued since he gave evidence to the UK Royal Society in 2001. This explains the detection of Uranium particles from the 2003 Gulf war in the Atomic Weapons Aldermaston air filters in the UK at the time of the USA bombing of Iraq.

Chris Busby’s expert report: Summary, Conclusions and recommendations This report provides evidence confirming the presence of alpha emitting Uranium hot particles in soil samples from the Israeli bombing of Hassan Nasrallah in Beirut on Sept 27th 2024. This also supports earlier work by Green Audit and others that point to the use of a novel weapon which employs Uranium and may produce or incorporate Enriched Uranium. The decays from the particles imaged which are in the respirable range (<10 micron), and become resuspended, would cause energy deposition to the cells within range of the 4-micron alpha tracks of about 200mGy or 2.4 Sieverts. Such doses are able to kill cells, cause genetic mutations and cancer. The results show for the first time that such radioactive alpha emitting particles become airborne through resuspension in the absence of any wind, and re-precipitate on clean surfaces. The nature of the weapon is unknown without further work on the isotopic ratios and the presence of other elements in the soil samples from the site. What can be concluded is that the weapon employed Uranium and left Uranium particle residues. Further work on these samples and those obtained from Gaza will be reported. The CR39 method is shown to provide a simple, inexpensive and highly sensitive way of analysing soil samples for hot particles. This means that reliance on expensive tests (ICPMS, alpha spectrometry, gamma spectrometry) is not necessary to prove that such weapons have been deployed. Green Audit has increasingly found that pressure is brought to bear on independent laboratories to provide misleading or biased results. In many cases, the laboratories refuse to provide such results (as was the case with Dr Abboud and the French CRIIRAD laboratory). Furthermore, the cost of laboratory tests (in the region of 300$ per sample) is currently beyond the means of Green Audit or those who are interested in examining samples from war zones. It is recommended that independent analysis is carried out of samples from the site, and other sites in Lebanon and Gaza where Israel has deployed novel warheads and that the public in these areas are warned of the health consequences resulting from inhalation of resuspended particles. Epidemiological studies in Iraq have already found significant excess genetic effects in local populations from the use of Uranium weapons. Particularly worrying is the evidence that a novel warhead which employs or produces EU has been deployed for some 20 years.
