Anti racist march in Bristol – then far right attacked Antifa benefit gig in Red Lion pub. Tommy Robinson brigade are pro Israel and anti Muslim. Bristol pub-goer says people turned up with flags wanting a fight Police are reviewing CCTV footage A group of people who turned up outside a Bristol pub wearing masks and waving flags seemed “intent on fighting”, according to a witness. Police were called to a “disturbance” outside the Red Lion pub on Whitehall Road yesterday afternoon (Sunday, February 15), involving “about 50 people with differing views”. A pub-goer who saw the group described seeing roughly “25 people fully masked up” and claimed some appeared to be “wearing pseudo stab vests” and were initiating violence. The witness, who asked only to be named as Frankie, was in a neighbouring pub at the time of the group’s arrival. Frankie said the group of self-proclaimed ‘patriots’ were shouting generic chants about “saving the country” but were heard making “direct threats of violence” to members of the community and customers at the Red Lion. The pub had shared a post on social media promoting a fundraising gig that day, advertised as a “benefit for Bristol Antifascists”. The organised event is believed to have been targeted by the ‘patriots’ in protest. BristolLive was told by a witness that the Red Lion Pub and its customers were “being hassled by a bunch of far-right people” waving flags and wearing face coverings. It is thought there was a stand-off between the two groups for about 40 minutes outside the pub. Video footage seen by BristolLive shows a group of people in masks in the middle of the road, waving St George’s flags around as police officers attempt to corral them. Members of the community, including young children, were seen walking down the street as both the group waving flags and those opposing were shouting as police officers separated them. In another video sent to BristolLive, footage shows a large group of people, again with their faces covered, appearing to throw punches and attempt to kick others as police officers try to disperse the crowd. A black van with a Union Jack on the front bonnet was also parked right outside the pub. As the group of masked flag-wavers began to disperse, Frankie told BristolLive there were around 100 people on the street to oppose them. Frankie said the large number of people looked like they were residents in the area and while they were not involved in the direct confrontation, came out to oppose the group. Frankie said members of the community appeared “distressed” and “concerned” by what had happened and even prompted some to say they were “going to start attending the antifa marches and counter-protests”. A spokesperson for Avon and Somerset Police said: “Police attended a disturbance involving about 50 people in Whitehall Road, Redfield, Bristol, at about 3.30pm on Sunday 15 February. “Two groups with differing views were involved in an altercation in the street, and officers stepped in to prevent a breach of the peace. The groups dispersed at about 4.30pm. “No arrests were made, but officers are reviewing CCTV and body-worn video footage. Any offences identified will be fully investigated. “If you have information or footage which shows criminal offences, please call 101 and give the reference 5226031153.”

Should these numbers hold in a general election, Nigel Farage’s insurgents would not merely win — they would secure an outright Commons majority. The survey of 1,513 British adults, conducted 28–29 January, captures a nation weary of establishment failures. Reform leads on immigration (its perennial strength), but now dominates crime, Brexit, foreign affairs and defence too. The Greens poll at 13 per cent, Lib Dems at 11 per cent — the SNP drops to three per cent in Great Britain. Pollster Jack Curry warns of an ‘increasingly fractured’ landscape: ‘If this played out in a general election, Reform would be on course not just to emerge as the largest party but to secure a working majority, while no other party would even reach triple-digit seat totals.’? Administrations rise by 41% amid surge in new year high street failures The number of businesses collapsing into administration has surged by more than 40% in January as a raft of well-known names on the high street hit the wall. Official figures from the Insolvency Service showed the number of company administrations jumped by 41% to 151 between December and January, and was also 14% higher than a year earlier. It comes amid a swathe of recent retail and hospitality administrations since the start of the year, affecting thousands of jobs, including American-inspired restaurant chain TGI Fridays, accessories retailer Claire’s, The Original Factory Shop, Quiz, footwear brand Russell and Bromley and Revolution Bars owner The Revel Collective. Game Retail also recently announced its intention to appoint administrators. A rescue deal was secured for TGI, with its assets sold to a subsidiary company of Sugarloaf, the firm behind the global TGI Friday brand. Despite this, administrators of TGI shut 16 restaurants with the loss of 456 jobs. And the future of many of the other firms that have gone bust since the start of the year remains uncertain, with administrators yet to announce deals. Retail and hospitality firms have been put under immense pressure from soaring wage costs and subdued consumer spending, while business rates are also set to surge higher this April following reforms announced in last November’s budget. Sarah Rayment, managing director and global co-head of restructuring at Kroll, said: “The key question at this point in the year is whether distress and insolvencies will continue to rise given the pressures facing UK businesses. “There are signs of resilience in the economy, inflation has steadied and markets expect interest rate cuts later in the year, but the picture is far from uniform” She added: “There is understandable concern across the high street economy, particularly retail, leisure and hospitality, where the debate around business rates reform adds to an already difficult trading environment. “But the reality is that every sector will face headwinds this year.” Overall company insolvencies lifted 4% month-on-month in January, but were 14% lower than a year ago, according to the latest Insolvency Service figures.

UK housing system broken.  Inside the city hundreds of van dwellers call home: The hidden side of the cost of living crisis Hundreds of people living in vehicles around a Bristol beauty spot are facing eviction, after the council began legal proceedings to try and move them on. The issue of van dwellers on the Clifton Downs has become increasingly acrimonious, after the council accused them of fly tipping, poor parking and leaving human waste in the park. But what’s going on there is a small part of a much bigger problem. A shortage in the number of affordable homes combined with the cost of living crisis has caused other similar ‘van cities’ to spring up across the country. Ellen looks to the floor as she thinks about how she ended up living in a van. “I ended up in this situation because my child died a few years ago and I became very unwell. I just needed to be somewhere to try and deal with my bereavement.” Ellen, a 67-year-old grandmother, has spent nine years living in a van with her dogs. For more than a year, she’s tried to find a permanent home, but said housing shortages and financial pressures have made it impossible. Steve Brown, who also lives in a van on the edge of Brighton’s South Downs National Park, said every day he thinks to himself: “You’ve survived another day.” He and Ellen have been trying to rent a place together with their combined pensions, but he said they cannot meet the income threshold they are told they need. Inside the UK’s van dwelling hotspots Steve, a 68-year-old retired bus driver, said: “I’ve worked all of my life, from the age of 12 years old, so I’ve never asked for anything from the government. Now I’ve got my pension, and that’s it.” Steve and Ellen’s stories illustrate the UK’s newest symptom of the housing crisis: van dwelling. For some, it’s a lifestyle choice, but for many, it’s because of the cost of living and shortage of affordable housing. Outside the vehicle is a tank he uses to collect rainwater to wash his dishes with, and a bucket underneath to collect water that runs off. It’s cold, windy and exposed on the site. Ellen lives next to Steve, and the interior of her van is cosy and colourful, with decorations hanging from the walls. She has a stove and log burner on either side. Ellen said that after several years dealing with her bereavement, she’s ready to fund a permanent home. “Now I’m trying to get back into a house but because of the housing shortage and the demands that the estate agents put on you, I’ve found it incredibly difficult,” she said. Ex-Reform MP Rupert Lowe launches new party Rupert Lowe was elected as Reform UK MP for Great Yarmouth in July 2024 but now sits as an independent A former Reform UK MP, who is now serving as an independent, has launched a new political party. Rupert Lowe, who represents Great Yarmouth in Norfolk, launched Restore Britain, which he said would be a “national political party”, on Friday night. He initially set up Restore Britain as a “political movement” after he was suspended from Reform UK last March. It is now expected to act as an umbrella political party, with locally based political parties as partners. Lowe’s suspension by Reform UK came after allegations he made threats of physical violence against then party chairman Zia Yusuf. The Crown Prosecution Service later said there was insufficient evidence for a “realistic prospect of conviction”. Lowe, a businessman and farmer who used to be chairman of Southampton FC, is expected to stand again for the Great Yarmouth constituency with local party Great Yarmouth First, which will be a partner of Restore Britain. Senior Conservative figures Susan Hall and Sir Gavin Williamson had been involved in an advisory board for Restore Britain when it was described as a political movement. Former minister Sir Gavin suggested to the Press Association he would end his involvement with Restore Britain as a result of it becoming a political party. Hall, the Tory leader in the London Assembly, is also understood to be leaving Restore Britain’s board. The BBC’s East of England political editor, Andrew Sinclair, said Lowe had a reputation for being a bit of a “maverick MP”. “He’s not very collegiate, which was one reason why he left Reform UK,” he said. “He also believes, more than many, that there is a real disconnect between mainstream politicians and the public – and he points to his Great Yarmouth constituency as proof that he is right. “There haven’t been any elections in the town since he left Reform but anecdotally he seems to have a lot of support. I have been shown private polling by both Labour and his own people which suggest that he would do well if an election was held now. “He believes that in a crowded marketplace there is room for another party, on the right, which will pride itself on its independence of mind. “He had hoped his local creation Great Yarmouth First would make its mark in this year’s local elections, but they have been cancelled. This new party will aim to pick up national support.”

Barry reacts to the government’s local elections U-turn On Monday 16th February, Barry was interviewed by Channel 4 News following the announcement from the government that it has decided not to cancel some of the local elections which were due to be postponed in England. The government has abandoned its plan to cancel multiple local elections after receiving “new legal advice”. Government U-turns ‘for the 15th time’ The first 19 months of Labour in power have seen more than a dozen U-turns. From welfare cuts to a climbdown on inheritance tax for farmers, Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer and Chancellor Rachel Reeves appear to have gone back on several manifesto pledges and promises made before they were elected. Sky News is looking at some of the biggest U-turns Labour has made since coming into power. Grooming gangs A central government-led inquiry into child sexual abuse in Oldham, requested by the council, was originally declined. Tech billionaire Elon Musk launched a series of online attacks on Sir Keir and safeguarding minister Jess Phillips over that decision – going as far as calling Ms Phillips a “witch” who should go to prison. Opposition leader Kemi Badenoch joined in, calling for a national probe. The prime minister resisted calls for an inquiry for months. But in June 2025, Sir Keir announced he would follow the recommendation of Baroness Casey to hold another inquiry into grooming gangs. In her budget in 2024, Ms Reeves changed the fiscal rules on how the government measures debt, allowing up to £50bn of extra borrowing. This was welcomed by many, but it wasn’t in Labour’s election manifesto. Back then, Ms Reeves talked more about her iron discipline with the fiscal rules. “But I can confirm today that we will be measuring debt differently,” she said in October 2024, ahead of the budget.

Jack Lopresti has joined the Azov Battalion in Ukraine – a pro Nazi group. Former Bristol Tory MP and Freemason joins neo-Nazi Azov Brigade Former Conservative MP Jack Lopresti has joined the far-Right Nazi Ukrainian Azov Brigade. Announcing the news on X this morning, he said: “I am honoured to begin my service with the 12th Special Forces Brigade “Azov” of the National Guard of Ukraine, a unit that has become a symbol of resilience and uncompromising principle.” Lopresti, who represented Filton and Bradley Stoke between 2010 and 2024, last year signed up to the Ukrainian military in its war effort against Russia. He initially volunteered with the International Legion of Defence Intelligence of Ukraine, having served in the British Army Reserve, including five months in Helmand Province in Afghanistan, before his political career. Azov, founded in 2014 as the Azov Battalion, has been heavily involved in Ukraine’s war effort, notably during the unsuccessful defence of Mariupol in 2022. Its founder, Andriy Biletsky, was previously the leader of the neo-Nazi group Patriot of Ukraine, and has claimed that Ukraine should “lead the white races of the world in a final crusade […] against Semite-led Untermenschen”. Azov has been linked to far-Right extremists not only domestically but also in Russia and the United States, and until 2022 the group used the neo-Nazi wolfsangel on its badges.

Ras Judah, local Rastafarian, has died RIP – an interview he did with Tony. Tributes paid to race relations campaigner Judah Adunbi, known locally as “Ras Judah”, reportedly died on Friday Tributes have been paid to a “pillar of Bristol’s conscience” after the death of race relations stalwart Judah Adunbi. Mr Adunbi, who was known locally as “Ras Judah”, was in his early 70s and died on Friday, reportedly after a short illness. For decades, he had been a prominent campaigner in Bristol and was also a founding member of an independent group between the police and members of the city’s Afro-Caribbean community. Writing on Facebook, Bristol Black History Month said Mr Adunbi was “more than a campaigner or community elder. He was a pillar of Bristol’s conscience”. It added: “He carried both the pain and the pride of our city with unwavering dignity. “From founding the St Pauls Sports Academy to mentoring generations across Bristol, Ras Judah embodied service. He stood firm so others could stand taller.” In 2017, Mr Adunbi was Tasered by an Avon and Somerset Police officer outside his house in Easton when he was mistaken for a wanted man. At the time, he confirmed to the two officers who approached him that he was not the suspect they were looking for, but refused to give his name. After a dispute, he was Tasered by PC Claire Boddie and arrested. Charges for a public order offence and assaulting a police officer were later dropped. Boddie was cleared of all misconduct charges in 2018 and was found not guilty at a criminal trial. Months later, he was stopped again by police who mistook him for the same wanted man. In 2023, Mr Adunbi released a documentary called I Am Judah, which explored the incident and broader questions of race relations in Bristol. In 2009, he won a wrongful arrest case against the force and was awarded compensation, although a Taser was not used in that incident. ‘Courage and tenacity’ Alex Raikes, CEO of Stand Against Racism & Inequality, wrote on social media: “Many of us have stood on your shoulders and wouldn’t be where we are without your courage and tenacity. “So many will miss your contribution, be it sports, anti-racism, mentoring, community development, and also fun and celebration. “Thank you for all you have done. We will miss your laugh and that look that sees right through any rubbish.” He was also a father, grandfather, and a cricket lover. Rose Green & Bristol West Indian Phoenix Cricket Club said on Facebook: “Bristol has lost a respected community elder today.

Piers Corbyn suspended from Your Party over allegations of supporting far right and racism – after talking to locals who’s daughters had been attacked by illegal immigrants. Dear Marion, Treasurer – for Complaints Team, Interim Leadership & membership Team, I was suspended from YourParty membership and excluded from the CEC London elections, despite being validly nominated and endorsed and being formally and validly invited to attend hustings. My suspension and exclusion is contrary to natural justice and YourParty’s own principles. Some of the conduct referenced predates the formal formation of the Party. I ask the Complaints Team to clarify: Whether the Party’s rules are being applied retrospectively? I dispute the factual characterisation that: The protests were exclusively or initially organised by far-right groups OR that My attendance constituted endorsement or affiliation with any far-right organisation or policy. My purpose in attending (eg re Epping protest) was to check out what was really going on (on invitation of local Stop Digital-Id campaigners) and specifically make the point that no amount of Digi-Id or surveillance will stop a boat crossing the channel and point out to local concerned people that they were being used by others (govt and political groupings) for other agendas. I did not attend at Epping or any event in support of racism, discrimination, or hostility toward refugees, but AGAINST such. Many people including present YourParty members have attended events eg protests at Political Party conferences and related events in order to OPPOSE and it is unfair and unjust to claim such attendance constitutes “support” or “association”. It is obvious that from the start of anti-Lockdown and related protests against World Economic Forum and EU diktats that the Main Stream media have vigorously sought to categorise such protests as “FarRight/ Right” and protests such as pro-Palestine anti genocide as “Left/FarLeft”. THIS labelling is to weaken the fightback. It is unfortunate many in YourParty fall for and indeed vigorously promote this divide and consequently make erroneous ideological claims about assumed motives against me and others. I support, for example, the slogan “Palestine and Freedom fighters Unite in Common cause” and have been physically attacked and threatened for such from BOTH SIDES of the self adopted Left/Right divide. The powers-that-be are very fearful of such unity and it is ironic that YourParty preaches a ‘New way forward’ yet, to the point of making false and libelous claims against me, in practice opposes such unity. It flows fundamentally from the democratic inclusivity position of YourParty and natural justice that: (i) The unsubstantiated and false, gratuitously damaging – LIBELOUS accusations against me must be publicly withdrawn forthwith and apologies and damages issued to me. (ii) The CEC LONDON election process be halted forthwith and re-started including myself, who was excluded contrary to natural justice and YourParty principles. If this is not done I cannot see what other solutions there are to the consequent dramatic undermining of YourParty’s moral and political credibility and electability. LOTO working with Your Party –  David Miller David Miller @Tracking_Power I am told that Your Party has now named seven members in a – presumably interim – executive committee. I am able to share the names and the official positions of three of the seven – which are listed in internal documents. They are: Amy Jackson – once Political Secretary at LOTO and Unite’s Director of Politics, now: ‘Head of Executive Team.’ Karie Murphy – ex-Chief of Staff at LOTO, forced out after shenanigans with John McDonnell, now back in charge of: ‘Conference & Event planning’. James Schneider – former LOTO Spokesperson, Progressive International and Peace and Justice Project. He is married to Sophie Nazemi, Keir Starmer’s literal press secretary; he was central to the disastrous Labour push to adopt the IHRA definition of antisemitism against the will of the members and to the strategy of apologising and throwing anti-Zionists under the bus. His intelligence bosses didn’t want him testifying anywhere, ever, as it would compromise everything.  ‘Do you think you’re the devil himself?’: highlights from the bizarre, newly released Bannon-Epstein interview The interview, revealed in the latest tranche of Epstein files, was reportedly intended for a sympathetic documentary Steve Bannon, a one-time adviser to Donald Trump, has long styled himself as a populist nemesis of the global elites. Yet the latest release of Jeffrey Epstein files shows that he exchanged hundreds of friendly texts with the wealthy financier, discussing politics, travel and other topics. One of the biggest surprises in the files was a frank, two hour video in which Epstein – who exploited and abused dozens of young girls – is interviewed by Bannon at what appears to be Epstein’s New York home. In an esoteric, meandering conversation over nearly two hours, the men discuss economics – Bannon is a former Goldman Sachs investment banker – and philosophy as well as Epstein’s time in jail. They evidently paused filming just before the halfway point and then resumed, as Epstein’s glasses and shirt suddenly changed appearance. There is an easy familiarity between the two men that allows Bannon to call Epstein a “schmuck” and “criminal” and even ask if he is “the devil” fallen from paradise. At one point, Bannon comments: “There’s something deeply fucked up with you.” The interview also becomes an exercise in intellectual peacocking as they invoke Socrates, Isaac Newton and quantum physics but pay little attention to Epstein’s crimes. Epstein reveals himself to be a living museum of racial prejudice. Filmed around 2019, the interview was reportedly intended for a sympathetic documentary designed to polish Epstein’s tarnished reputation. Bannon has previously written and directed documentaries about topics including the financial crisis and the Clinton Foundation. Epstein was arrested in July 2019 and died in his jail cell in August. Here are some of the most notable and strange moments from the interview: 94 mins, 30 secs: human intelligence and intuition Epstein has some views to share on gender and race and it goes about as well as you would expect. He reflects on the limits of science and how it cannot describe romance. “I don’t know why I’m attracted to somebody – I don’t know,” he tells Bannon. “People are attracted to each other and some – everyone – has the same feeling. They’ve seen someone walk in the room and they say, oh, that person gives me a creepy feeling.” ‘I don’t know why I’m attracted to somebody’: Epstein gives views on intuition and gender – video Science cannot describe what such a “creepy feeling” means, he continues, adding that women have an “intuitive sense”. He goes on: “They have feelings and they’re able to deal in the realm of things that men, especially men like myself, find unexplainable. “Women have intuition. Men see things a bit differently. Men want to measure everything. Women are not really that interested in measuring.” 2 mins, 30 secs: the path to global influence Epstein outlines his ascent from a trader at Bear Stearns to a member of elite international boards. He attributes this rise to a fundamental shift in how power was perceived in the late 20th century. Epstein argues that until the mid-1970s, “name” and “reputation” (such as being a Rockefeller or head of General Motors) were the primary markers of brilliance. But with the advent of the calculator and statistical modelling, business shifted from character-based decisions to mathematical calculations. Epstein was brought on to the Rockefeller University board in the late 1980s specifically for his “financial expertise” to help balance statistical portfolio management for the prestigious research institution. He also describes his induction into the Trilateral Commission – a nongovernmental forum aiming to foster closer cooperation among the US, western Europe and Japan – founded by David Rockefeller, whose philosophy was that elected politicians are transient whereas businessmen provide the “stability and consistency” needed to run the world.

Data Set 11: Contains financial ledgers, flight manifests to Epstein’s island in the US Virgin Islands, and property seizure records. Data Set 12: Contains late productions and supplemental items of approximately 150 documents that require more detailed legal review. Juan Alessi, 72, took the stand Thursday during the fourth day of Maxwell’s sex trafficking trial and revealed how she wanted the house run like a ‘five-star hotel,’ which included washing Epstein’s car, stuffing it with $100 bills and avoiding eye contact with him, as Maxwell claimed he detested it. Staff were handed a 58-page ‘Household Manual’ – dated February 14, 2005 – filled with demands: ‘Try and anticipate the needs of Mr. Epstein, Ms. Maxwell and their guests;’ ‘Do not discuss personal problems with guests;’ ‘Unobtrusive is the key;’ ‘SMILE!’ and ‘NEVER disclose Mr. Epstein or Ms. Maxwell’s activities or whereabouts to anyone.’ One bullet on the checklist read: ‘See nothing. Say nothing.’ When asked by prosecutor Maurene Comey what he understood that meant, Alessi replied: ‘I was supposed to be blind, deaf, to say nothing.’ In the master bedroom, staff were to ensure a gun was placed in a bedside table drawer, shutters were closed, and that reading glasses, eye masks and ‘Jeffrey Epstein large and small notepads’ were on both bedside tables. Maxwell demanded the staff use ‘proper language’ with a list of things ‘you don’t say’: ‘Yeah,’ ‘Sure,’ ‘No problem,’ ‘You bet,’ ‘Gotcha,’ ‘Right’ and ‘I dunno.’ When complimented, according to the manual, they should respond: ‘You are very kind’ and ‘Thank, you, Ms. ____. I enjoy doing it.’ Alessi’s other duties were to make breakfast at 5 a.m. and bathe Maxwell’s dog – a Yorkshire Terrier called Max. He told the court he was expected to be up at the crack of dawn to make the food rather than Epstein’s professional cooks, ‘because the chefs have the privilege to sleep in.’ Alessi also said that part of his job was to clean up after Epstein’s massages – which he said Maxwell scheduled three times per day and which usually took place in his bathroom. Asked by the prosecutor if he ever found anything ‘unexpected’ after the massages, Alessi said that he found a ‘large dildo,’ describing it as ‘a huge man’s penis with two heads.’ Alessi did not clarify whether it was the sex toy called a ‘Twin Torpedo’ referred to by prosecutors in pretrial filings. Alessi said that he put gloves on and ‘ran it under the water and put the dildo in Ms. Maxwell’s closet in (her) bathroom’ inside of a wicker basket. The board of this organization includes Natan Sharansky, the former deputy prime minister of Israel. Interestingly, the board also features key friend and lawyer of Jeffrey Epstein, Alan Dersowitz.

Epstein claimed that Robert had access to Margaret Thatcher in Downing Street and Ronald Reagan in White House. He was also acting as the unofficial ambassador of the Soviet Bloc.”In that time, he had free access to Margaret Thatcher’s Downing Street, t= Ronald Reagan’s White House, to the Kremlin and to the corridors of power throughout Europe,” wrote Epstein. Robert Maxwell was once the owner of 400 companies and an MP in the British parliament. He was allegedly involved in the Iran-Contra money affair, using his empire for money laundering. Iran-Contra was one of the darkest scams of the CIA-Mossad, where they sold weapons to Iran to fund the Nicaraguan rebels, who were fighting the communist government. It was later discovered in 1986 when a supply plane was shot down over Nicaragua, and arms were found in the plane. Robert was also the backbone of the PROMIS Software Scandal; he globally distributed the bugged PROMIS software used by Mossad to spy on other governments. Whistleblower Ari Ben-Menashe alleged that he diverted the funds from his companies to further his espionage goals. “Maxwell passed on all the secrets he learned to Mossad in Tel Aviv. Investigative journalist Seymour Hersh and others suggested that when Maxwell’s debt became unassailable, he tried to blackmail Mossad to bail him out, which led to his death. I interviewed Mandelson in November 2024 and I did I was aware of the FT reporting at the time and I thought long and hard about whether to ask the about the Epstein stuff and now I regret not doing so because clearly it was the right question to ask and it was a kind of journalistic oversight on my part and it doesn’t show the political media class a good light whatsoever by the way but it is true to say that that was not the emphasis and focus at the time. So here you have Lewis Goodall admitting that he did not hold Peter Mandolson to account for what he was doing with Jeffrey Epstein.

Someone named Flavia Brilli sings it, Nyman composed it, and Greenaway wrote the lyrics. To this day, it is completely unavailable in any form, save for those brief fragments that are somewhat hard to hear in the film itself. It doesn’t appear on any edition of the film’s soundtrack, nor can it be found in any of the other collections of Nyman’s music. Does anyone know why? In the soundtrack’s liner notes, I think Nyman mentions a “lost song”, which makes no sense whatsoever. This is just my humble opinion, but I believe it’s the most lovely piece of music ever. It seems crazy to me that it basically no longer exists.

In the course of this book, contemporary arguments both for and against the various plans are discussed, and historical background material is included, with brief biographies of prominent personalities. One of the things which I discovered during research on this book was that many proposers confined the exposition of their ideas to diaries, private correspondence and closed meetings. In contrast, in public they either ignored the subject of transfer or spoke against it, sometimes vehemently! Even those who did propose various schemes were often reluctant to specifically suggest compulsory transfer. They relied on various euphemistic expressions to convey their intentions regarding compulsion. I have therefore made it an important aim of this work to ascertain the private views of the proposers on this subject. The wording of their proposals has also been carefully analysed to determine whether the transfer of the Arabs from Palestine was intended to be compulsory or voluntary. One of the striking things to come to light during this research is the attempt to rewrite history and pretend that the Zionist leaders were completely opposed to the transfer of Arabs, even to the extent of censoring portions of official minutes and the amending of documents where they had proposed transfer! This rewriting is reminiscent of the Russian Encyclopaedia. Between 1931 and 1948, the Irgun (Etzel), Lehi (the Stern Group), and the Haganah – Zionist paramilitary formations operating in British-mandate Palestine – used insurgent tactics to carve a state from the ruins of empire. They carried out actions that the British, the UN, and even mainstream Jewish leaders sometimes labeled terrorist, subversive, or guerrilla. What we call Israel’s independence was, to the other side, the destruction of a nation not yet allowed to be born. As early as 1899, even before the first kibbutz, Zionist thinkers such as David Trietsch were urging Theodore Herzl to include “Greater Palestine” in the Basle Programme, arguing that ten million Jews could not be “fit into a land of 25,000 square kilometers.” This vision, as historian S. Shamir Hassan noted, revealed “the inner logic of Zionist policies” – a movement bound to use expansion and force as its political grammar. Violence, from the very beginning, was not an accident of history but an instrument of ideology. Each movement justified its violence through an idea of redemption. The Haganah (1920-1948) saw itself as a disciplined “defense” force protecting Jewish settlements while preparing for sovereignty. Founded in 1920 as the defense organization of the Yishuv (the Jewish community in Palestine), it aligned with mainstream labor Zionism and generally operated under a doctrine of restraint. Yet it was never purely defensive: its elite strike arm, the Palmach, created in 1941, carried out sabotage and guerrilla missions first against Axis powers, then against Arabs and British forces alike. By the mid-1940s, David Ben-Gurion and Haganah commanders had accepted that driving the British out was the only way forward. By 1945, the Haganah entered a unified “Resistance Movement” with Irgun and Lehi, coordinating attacks on British railways, police stations, and communications lines. When Israel was founded in May 1948, both the Haganah and its elite strike force, the Palmach, were absorbed into the newly created Israel Defense Forces (IDF), transforming clandestine warfare into state legitimacy and forming the operational backbone of the nascent army. The Irgun (Etzel – “National Military Organization”), founded in 1931 and led at times by Menachem Begin, who would later become Israel’s prime minister, broke away from the Haganah to embrace Ze’ev Jabotinsky’s Revisionist Zionism – A creed rooted in the conviction that only force, through armed struggle, could redeem and secure a homeland. In July 1938, Irgun bombings tore through Haifa’s Arab market, killing more than seventy civilians. The six young people have been in prison on remand for 17 months and their trial began on November 17th 2025 at Woolwich Crown Court in front of Mr Justice Johnson. The defendants are Charlotte Head, Samuel Corner, Leona Kamio, Fatema Zainab Rajwani, Zoe Rogers and Jordan Devlin. The team, codenamed the “Arlington Group”, began planning in earnest how Starmer could capture the leadership from June of that year – including a detailed breakdown of how Labour’s membership could be convinced to support him. The revelation is made in a new biography of the Labour leader, Keir Starmer: The Biography, by Tom Baldwin, a former journalist who served as one of Ed Miliband’s advisers during his time leading the party. The group was formed as early as 2018 when Jenny Chapman, who was Darlington MP, asked him if he had ever thought about being the party’s leader. Starmer is said to have replied that it was something he “might want to do”. Meetings then began to take place on Monday mornings around the kitchen table at her home. Its codename was derived from the road in London where one of them lived. Those involved said that there was never a plan to topple Corbyn – the failed coup against him in 2016 had proved that it would be almost impossible to do so. Starmer is also said to have refused to acknowledge at that stage that he would be running. “Keir used to have this lawyerly phrase of: ‘I want to be in a position to consider standing – should a vacancy arise,’” said one of those involved. However, the preparations being made for a leadership attempt kicked into another gear in June 2019 with the arrival of an official that Starmer referred to as “the new guy”. It turned out to be Morgan McSweeney, now Labour’s influential campaigns director. Some were initially sceptical of McSweeney, who had also overseen Liz Kendall’s ill-fated leadership challenge in 2015, when she won less than 5% of the vote. However, he presented detailed research into the Labour membership – who would largely decide the identity of the party’s next leader – and how a winning coalition could be formed. “He got out his slide deck,” recalled Chris Ward, a former Starmer aide. “He ran through exactly where the membership was on every question, which bits of it we could get, which bits we couldn’t. Despite the revelation, which led many to question Sir Keir’s integrity and judgement, he insisted he was repeatedly lied to by the disgraced peer, who he said had “betrayed our country” over the alleged leak of sensitive government documents to the disgraced financier. On Wednesday night, ministers and other senior figures in Labour gave the prime minister an ultimatum that he must sack his controversial chief of staff, Morgan McSweeney, who pushed for Lord Mandelson’s appointment as ambassador and brought him back into the heart of the government. One minister told The Independent: “Morgan has to go – and should have gone months ago.” The prime minister had attempted to restrict the publication of the vetting documents, arguing that some details would need to be redacted on national security grounds. That prompted accusations from Labour MPs that he was engaging in a “cover-up”. Newly released emails between Lord Mandelson and Jeffrey Epstein date back to when he was serving as a senior minister in Gordon Brown’s government Email exchanges published in the US indicate Lord Mandelson was in close contact with the disgraced late financier during a period in which he was at the heart of government amid the financial crisis. The emails suggest Lord Mandelson gave Epstein advance notice of an impending EU bailout, sent him internal government information about the state of the UK economy and lobbied the Treasury on banking policy at Epstein’s suggestion. We are still reviewing the millions of documents related to Epstein published by the US Justice Department but here is what has emerged about Lord Mandelson so far. Forwarding internal government information to Epstein One exchange in the newly released emails suggests Lord Mandelson forwarded internal government information to Epstein in June 2009, at which point he was acting as Gordon Brown’s business secretary and de facto deputy prime minister. Nick Butler, a policy adviser to the then-prime minister, wrote a memo about the UK’s struggling economy in which he recommended selling off government-held assets in order to raise public funds. He copied several people into the email, including Lord Mandelson. The published documents appear to suggest Lord Mandelson forwarded that internal government communication to Epstein, with the message: “Interesting note that’s gone to the PM.” In response to Epstein asking, “what salable [sic] assets?”, a reply from a redacted email address said: “Land, property I guess.” Lord Mandelson has been approached for comment.Advance notice of EU bailout for Greece Another exchange indicates Lord Mandelson gave Epstein advance notice of a €500bn bailout by the EU to save the ailing Euro. In the early hours of 10 May 2010, EU finance ministers agreed the deal amid concerns that a debt crisis in the Greek economy could spread to the wider Eurozone. The evening before the announcement, Epstein emailed Lord Mandelson to say: “sources tell me 500 b euro bailout , almost complete.” The released documents also appear to show Lord Mandelson told Epstein: “Sd be announced tonight.” Epstein then asked if Mandelson was home and received a reply, saying: “Just leaving No10..will call.” The UK did not contribute to the bailout, but then-chancellor Alistair Darling was present in Brussels for the negotiations. Lord Mandelson has been approached for comment.

The admission that came during Prime Minister’s Questions this week has led to some MPs suggesting Starmer’s position may now be untenable, as well as that of his chief of staff Morgan McSweeney. If I did, I think you’d all be asking me questions and they’d be valid ones. “That is apparently now a fringe position for some people at the top of the Labour Party which is an extraordinary thing to be able to say. “I don’t know about you, I don’t know any paedophiles, I don’t know anyone that’s run a sex trafficking ring, these are extraordinary things we are talking about here.” Dugmore went on to talk about reports showing how people at the top of the Labour Party knew about Mandelson staying in Epstein’s house while he was in prison. To nervous laughter from the audience, he said: “They [Labour bosses] didn’t think that was disqualifying, they thought actually ‘this is our guy’. “This is our guy that we’re going to elevate to the most prestigious diplomatic posting that we have, we’re going to make him our man in Washington. Not only that, we’re going to bring him back to London every so often to advise on some Cabinet reshuffles, and actually when we’re choosing our candidates for the 2024 General Election, we’re going to let him put in on that too because we think he’s a great judge of character. “Like, come on.” The audience applauded his speech which has been widely shared on social media. Trial date set as Downs ‘van dwellers’ saga nears an end About 45 vehicles remained parked on roads surrounding the park in north Bristol The number of vehicles parked around the Downs has dropped recently Bristol City Council is set for a court showdown as it moves to permanently ban people living in vehicles from the roads around the Downs. Article continues below In November, the council said it would seek to move people on from the Downs after designating the group of vehicles there as a ‘high impact’ site, due to what the council said was evidence of people using the area as a toilet. Nonetheless, about 45 vehicles remain parked on roads along the outside of the green space in leafy north Bristol. At its peak, the Downs ‘encampment’ consisted of about 150 vehicles. Now, a trial date has been set where the council will apply to have vehicles permanently barred from the area. At the trial, on April 16, the council will apply for a possession order for the roads, allowing them to evict people living in vehicles there, and then an injunction to prevent them from returning have the vehicles still occupying roads along the perimeter of the Downs. The court hearing will allow people on both sides of the debate to have their say; the council has until February 26 to publish a map detailing the proposed new exclusion zone, along with details of how people can take part in the court case. At a brief hearing outlining next steps in the long-running saga at Bristol Civil Justice Court on Thursday (February 5), the court heard from both critics and supporters of people living in vehicles. Alan Jenkinson, appearing on behalf of Protect The Downs – a group of locals who have waged a long campaign against the so-called van dwellers – said he wanted the scope of the proposed injunction to be extended to include other roads in the area. “We support the council’s application,” he said. “I would implore the court to extend the broad nature of the injunction to other roads. “We know from our experience and we’ve got substantial evidence to prove the danger to the public of allowing inhabitations on the roads. “(The vehicles pose a) real risk and threat to the community in the area.” Although the council has repeatedly promised to engage with the people still living in vehicles in the area to better understand their circumstances, there is limited evidence to suggest they have done so. Gerard Winstanley, from the Bristol Housing Action group, said more needed to be done to make sure people living in vehicles in the area had their say on their future. “We’ve had virtually no representation whatsoever from the people who are targeted by this exclusion order,” he said. “There are roughly 45 vehicles in the area. As part of our submission, what I’d just ask is that there’s more deliberate publicity given to the times and dates that these orders are being sought so that people can at least find out what the council intends to do and when.” Mr Winstanley said BHA would seek to be included as a party acting against the council in April’s trial. The council will also apply to extend a separate injunction which currently bars people from parking on the grass itself. That injunction is due to expire on July 25. Robin Denford, appearing on behalf of the council, said:“The injunction that has been granted already has worked extremely well,” citing the example of one trespasser who had been dealt with without any issues in January.

A retired vicar who objected to the confirmation of Sarah Mullally as Archbishop of Canterbury during the ceremony at St Paul’s Cathedral has told Premier he felt he had no other option after being repeatedly ignored by the Church of England when he has raised safeguarding issues. Rev Paul Williamson, who was priest in charge of St George’s Hanworth until he reached the church retirement age of 70, was escorted from the cathedral after he shouted “I object” during the service. The 77-year-old who carries a walking stick, said he was ready to walk out quietly but was “treated brusquely”. During the ceremony, the Vicar General said there had been “no valid objection” to Dame Sarah being confirmed as archbishop, something Rev Williamson disputes. “It was nonsense to say that there were no objections,” he said. “I objected and I’m not into making a scene in the house of God”. Lambeth Palace told Premier that public notices are always displayed before the Confirmation of Election for any diocesan bishop at the place where the Confirmation is due to take place. On this occasion, ahead of the Archbishop of Canterbury’s Confirmation of Election, notices were displayed outside Lambeth Palace and St Paul’s Cathedral. However, Rev Williamson said it would have been impossible for people outside London to read the notices and be aware they had to raise an objection before the King signed the Confirmation papers in December. Rev Williamson said he had last week met the Vicar General of the Province of Canterbury, Timothy Briden, to document his own formal objection ahead of Sarah Mullally’s confirmation. Premier has seen the documents which outline what Rev Williamson described as “three impediments” to the elevation of Bishop Sarah to the see of Canterbury. He cited the death of Fr Alan Griffin, a priest who took his own life after being falsely accused of abuse in the Diocese of London. A coroner strongly criticised the way the case was handled. Bishop Sarah apologised “unreservedly” to Fr Alan’s family and friends. Rev Williamson also alleged that Bishop Sarah had been too slow to act on information contained in files in the case of Martin Sargeant, a Diocese of London employee. Sargeant was sentenced to five years in prison in 2022 for defrauding the London Diocesan Fund of over £5m over a decade. He had also compiled rumours about dozens of priests in the diocese, which led to the compilation of files into 42 vicars which became known as the ‘Brain Dump’. Rev Paul also disclosed to the Vicar General that he had himself been driven to contemplate suicide over what he claimed was a lack of care by Sarah Mullally when he was evicted from his clergy housing in 2024. He claims that despite Lambeth Palace contacting Bishop Sarah to inform her of his situation, her only course of action was an email three weeks later containing information about a support group. The Diocese of London had previously said his tenure in office had come to an end in 2018 when he turned 70 and he had been given additional time to stay in the rectory rent-free until 2019. He continued to remain in the rectory until his eviction. In a statement at the time, a spokesperson for the Diocese of London said: “Mr Williamson’s eviction follows the issuing of a possession order by Staines County Court. The diocese has offered pastoral and practical support to Mr Williamson over the last six years, and has done so again ahead of today, including the offer of help in finding suitable accommodation, which we are reassured to know he has secured.”

Poland’s Prime Minister Donald Tusk has announced a new investigation into the links between Epstein and Moscow after Vladimir Putin’s name appeared over a thousand times in the latest release of documents by the US Department of Justice over the weekend. It includes one revealing email exchange from 2010 when Epstein sent an email offering to help someone acquire a Russian visa, writing: “I have a friend of Putin’s, should I ask him?” Epstein also discussed setting up meetings with the Russian president, and even claimed to have turned down an invitation from Putin to meet on the sidelines of a St Petersburg conference in 2013, as there wasn’t “real time and privacy”. I’m going to be in Scandinavia, or I plan to be in western, northern Europe. We should have dinner’. That’s it, no more. It has to be very short.” It is not the first time observers have drawn a connection between the paedophile financier and the Kremlin. They have pointed to the large numbers of Russian women mentioned in his emails and his apparent links to Putin’s inner circle. Announcing the new investigation by Polish authorities, Tusk said experts now believed it was “very probable” that Epstein’s activities received co-operation as part of a Kremlin “honey trap” operation, adding: “More and more leads, more and more ?information, and more and more commentary in the global press all relate to the suspicion that this unprecedented paedophilia scandal was co-organised by Russian intelligence services. “I ?don’t need to ?tell you how serious the increasingly likely possibility that Russian intelligence services co-organised this operation is for the security of the Polish state. Donald Tusk said it was ‘very probable’ that Epstein’s activities were assisted with as part of a Kremlin ‘honey trap’ operation “This can only mean that they also possess compromising materials against many leaders still ?active today.”

These snippets into the conversations of the disgraced paedophile, who mysteriously died in his New York City jail cell in 2019, raise new questions about his ties to intelligence agencies. Millions of newly released files do not show Epstein clocking into a Mossad, MI6, or CIA office building. But he did not need to. Current and former ambassadors, world leaders, and moguls came to him, and his Caribbean island, where he trafficked young women for sexual abuse. The reality is that Epstein floated in a world that was unreachable and more elite than that of intelligence case officers and desk analysts. If current observers trying to make sense of Epstein’s links to intelligence agencies need an example, the closest might be The Night Manager, a mini-series based on the novel by John Le Carre. The main antagonist of the show is Richard Onslow Roper – a cut-glass, arms-dealing businessman who is an asset for members of British Intelligence and global corporations, even as he is hounded by other factions of MI6. Of course, Epstein’s emails to former Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Barack reveal such close and continued contact with Israel that even Epstein had to implore Barack to “make clear that i dont work for mossad”. But Epstein’s murky ties to intelligence circles go back much farther. The earliest known connection Epstein had to the world of intelligence goes back to Donald Barr. This is also the weakest link. Barr was a former member of the OSS, or Office of Strategic Services, the WWII forerunner to the CIA. Barr hired Epstein, who did not have a college degree, to work as a math and physics teacher at one of New York City’s most elite schools, The Dalton School. Ironically, Barr wrote pornographic science fiction novels in his spare time. His son Bill was working for the CIA when Epstein was hired by his father. Bill worked in the Reagan and George HW Bush administrations before serving as attorney general during the first Trump administration. Epstein left the Dalton School in 1976 and took a job with the now-defunct Bear Stearns investment bank, trading options and advising wealthy clients. Epstein’s real links to figures in the world of weapons, the ultra-rich and intrigue started in full force in 1981 when he made a trip to the UK with a former girlfriend. There, Epstein met Douglas Leese, an aristocratic British arms dealer who would play a key role in introducing Epstein to Mossad agent Robert Maxwell and high-rolling Saudi Arabian arms dealer Adnan Khashoggi.
