Jewish charity ambulance attack in Golders Green – false flag? Rita Katz – Site. Jewish people telling Al Jazeera to get off their streets. Special constables. The London Ambulances Attack: Of Course It Was A False Flag The notion that the Iranian state would discredit itself by choosing to attack an ambulance service in London is crazy. Iran has not even attacked any hospitals or ambulances in Israel. Iran has absolutely zero record of attacks on healthcare facilities. That is of course in stark contrast to Israel which specifically targets them in Gaza and Lebanon. The obvious revulsion of a UK public, that has been opposed to the war on Iran, at the destruction of the ambulances would far outweigh any possible gain. What precisely is the gain that Iran is supposed to have sought? The organisation that, conveniently for the Zionist narrative, immediately claimed responsibility for the attack is Harakat Ashab al-Yamin al-Islamia. This is a group which simply did not exist until the US and Israeli attack on Iran, when it suddenly appeared fully formed and started causing small incidents of property damage to Jewish communities in Belgium and the Netherlands. From day one of its appearance, Israeli-backed think tanks and security groups instantly claimed to have linked it to Iranian militias. These Israeli claims were first surfaced by regular Israeli security service outlet Joe Truzman of the “Foundation for Defending Democracy”, who makes a living from fronting Israeli claims that all the deaths in Gaza were Hamas. The first online “evidence” of the existence of the group was on 9 March. On 16 March the entire Israeli Hasbara machinery in coordination went into overdrive on Harakat Ashab al-Yamin. Israel’s Diaspora Ministry issued a statement. So did Israel’s MFA. So did the Institute of National Security Studies. So did BICOM – the Britain Israel Communications and Research Centre. All on the same morning. At a time when Harakat Ashab al-Yamin had done nothing except allegedly start a small fire in Rotterdam. This frenzied publicity activity about this, by that point practically non-existent, group was prioritised by the Israeli state on the morning of some of the most intense missile and bombing attacks by Israel, the USA, Iran and Hezbollah of the war. There are some real red flags about its appearance. The first, as eloquently exposed by Lowkey, is that in its manifesto it uses the term “The Land of Israel” to refer to Palestine. No Islamic group, ever, referred to “The Land of Israel” and the phrase in Arabic is not even what complicit Gulf Arab elites use – they use just “Israel” or “The State of Israel”. “The Land of Israel” is unnatural in Arabic and evidently written by a Zionist and translated into Arabic. The other strange thing is that this allegedly Iranian group doesn’t use Farsi. Iranians don’t speak Arabic. Nor would any Iranian government-aligned group ever talk of “The Land of Israel” in Farsi. To add further to this, the group’s published logo appears to be AI-generated and the Arabic lettering on it is wrong. “Islamic” is rendered incorrectly and some of it doesn’t mean anything coherent at all – it is gibberish, presumably constructed by AI asked to produce a shield with Arabic lettering. Unlike the Zionist propaganda-pumping UK media, Dutch media asked real experts and was openly sceptical of the claims about the group: “Political anthropologist Younes Saramifar from Amsterdam’s VU university said the group was “completely unknown” until this month. “Based on what I have seen, this is absolutely not an organised and coherent group,” he told NOS before the Zuidas explosion. Saramifar said language mistakes in statements accompanying the videos suggest the makers are not native Arabic speakers and may not be part of a trained militant network.” It is another remarkably happy coincidence that the group chose to attack the London ambulances just hours before Metropolitan Police Chief Commissioner Sir Mark Rowley was due to address a fundraising event for the Community Services Trust, the group which receives enormous payouts from the British Treasury for consistently exaggerating the scale of antisemitism in the UK. Thankfully, nobody has ever been hurt in any of the “attacks” by “Harakat Ashab al-Yamin”. Isn’t that fact in itself a bit strange for a state-backed terror group? The ambulances in London were the worst damage ever done in the name of the alleged group. I am unhesitating in condemning all attacks on the Jewish community in the UK. Including those perpetrated by Mossad.

Revealed: How the arms industry is targeting Bristol’s secondary schools From ‘colour your own F-35’ to missile simulators, arms companies are promoting STEM careers in schools, but obscuring their role in the bloody global arms trade. Teachers, union reps, and campaign groups are pushing back It’s propaganda work. Companies clean up their image by investing in education. Faria, Disarm Education Just months into the bombardment, staff from BAE Systems were invited to St Katherine’s School near Bristol to speak to students. It is one of the UK’s largest arms companies, and one of the main partners in the production of F-35 fighter jets, many sold to Israel. “It was sprung upon a lot of teachers,” says Alice*, a former St Katherine’s employee. Students weren’t told about the company’s arms involvement or its role in Gaza. “It was a disgrace,” she says. The school’s careers officers emailed staff, saying the assembly would give year 8 students a chance to explore aeronautics and STEM careers. Since 2020, BAE Systems has spent over a billion pounds on education and skills development, regularly showcasing their forays on social media. Posts include robot dogs, lightsaber fights, and presenters with names like ‘Mr Magnetic.’ But crucially – as Alice points out: “They don’t mention at all who they are or what they actually do.” Lack of scrutiny Nick, a religion and ethics teacher, says the same about Rolls Royce, who recently visited his Filton school. “They don’t talk about weapons. They focus on aerospace, then greenwash it by saying, ‘we’re developing synthetic fuels.’” He adds that discussing war with students is tricky. “I teach peace and conflict, but if I start talking about missiles, there’s a good chance someone’s dad works at the nearby Ministry of Defence.” And, he knows many of the students will go on to apprenticeships with Rolls Royce or BAE Systems, both of which have bases in Filton. “Parents need to give consent for sexual health lessons and religious trips, but they don’t have to for arms companies, which is something that we want to raise in the campaign,” she tells the Cable. “It’s propaganda work. Companies clean up their image by investing in education. Rolls Royce don’t announce themselves as an arms company, they’ll hide it under the veneer of innovation, engineering and technology.” Some companies go further. French company Thales, a French company, tours their missile simulator around UK schools. While Lockheed Martin, the world’s largest arms manufacturer, produced an activity book with a ‘colour in the F-35 fighter plane’ exercise for British Science Week. Unions pushing back In July, the government proscribed Palestine Action, which had carried out direct action against companies producing arms used by Israel. Open resistance has become riskier, but activists are finding other ways to push back. In April, Disarm Education affiliated with the National Education Union (NEU), giving members protection to challenge arms industry involvement. NEU members in the Cabot Learning Federation successfully blocked Labour MP Damien Egan, vice chair of Labour Friends of Israel, from speaking at Bristol Brunel Academy due to his stance on Palestine Action and Israel sanctions. An NEU member at a CLF school told the Cable how, in September, the union rep at BBA posted about Egan’s visit in a WhatsApp group, sparking a flurry of organising.

M Shed Bristol exhibition of art against the war – some items pulled at last minute. IDF destroying ambulances in Gaza. Council shuts down art exhibition criticising Bristol’s arms industry “A decision was taken to refuse permission to display certain items that depict Bristol businesses” An art exhibition at the M-Shed in Bristol has sparked controversy, after the city council’s legal department ordered it be shut down just a day after opening. The temporary exhibition, which runs for another few weeks, has now re-opened after the artists and the council agreed to cut out names and faces from artworks that were critical of Bristol’s arms companies and the people who run them. The art show opened in the M-Shed’s top floor visiting exhibition space on March 10, and is called ‘Anatomy of Solidarity’. Three different art collectives contributed work to the exhibition – Latinas in Bristol, Creative Shift and a group called Art Against War Club. Art Against War Club said they installed the works of art on March 9, with the M-Shed’s public programmes manager present, who said all their pieces of art had been ‘flagged and cleared’ with the creative team, and the exhibition opened to the public on March 10. But the following day, some of their work had been taken down and their section of the exhibition was cordoned off, with staff at the M-Shed telling them she wasn’t allowed to speak to them, because the legal department at Bristol City Council – which owns and manages the M-Shed – had raised issues. The exhibition has now, more than a week later, finally opened to the public, but some of the works of art have parts cut out by the artists themselves, to get around what they said they see as council censorship. Other works of the pop-art exhibition have also had references to BAE Systems, Elbit Systems and named people removed, by the artists themselves. One that has survived the ‘censorship’ is a photograph of the statue of Edward Colston on its plinth, but with a quadcopter armed drone where its head should be. The artists said they wanted to challenge Bristol companies’ involvement in supplying arms and military equipment to Israel. The Israeli military operation in Gaza was described as a genocide by a UN Commission of Inquiry report in September 2025, and by the world’s leading association of genocide scholars in the same month. One of the artists from Art Against War Club, Jordan Glynn, claimed: “We understand that a council’s nervous system is wired for compliance – for avoiding risk, avoiding conflict, avoiding being seen as ‘difficult’. “But we’re not here to perform that obedience. Arms companies benefit from a cultural environment of fear and compliance. Our work is a daily disobedience practice. We train ourselves and our audiences to tolerate the discomfort of asking: Who profits from war in our city? We refuse to let fear of corporate displeasure set the limits of what can be said in public space,” he added. Another artist, Sam Catford, alleged: “We had great communications with the M Shed throughout, with work signed off at every stage. “The Public Programmes Manager was present and enthusiastic on opening day. Our only conclusion can be that once people started engaging in these conversations, someone felt there was too much risk, and instead of standing up for the right to discuss these realities in a public forum, they chose to censor our work,” they added. A spokesperson for Bristol City Council said that the exhibition is now open again and they have worked with the artist leading the event to add material that provides visitors with the context for why a request was made to ‘reconsider some items’, and that any changes to the items were made by the artists…..

Why It’s Politically Controversial Increased usability: Critics argue its accuracy and low-yield settings make nuclear use more thinkable. NATO forward-deployment: The U.S. stores B61-12s in Europe (Belgium, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands—and now the UK), under the nuclear sharing program, which raises tensions with Russia. Modernization cost: The total life extension program for the B61-12 is expected to cost over $10 billion, which has drawn criticism for cost overruns. How They Got There AviationNews – In mid-July 2025, U.S. B61-12 tactical nuclear gravity bombs were reportedly flown from Kirtland Air Force Base in New Mexico to RAF Lakenheath in Suffolk, England, via C-17 transport aircraft. This marks the first return of American nukes to British soil since around 2008. The deployment follows years of infrastructure upgrades at Lakenheath—including secure underground vaults and a new “surety dormitory”—planned in U.S. Defense Department budget documents as early as 2022–2023. When They Got There Reports indicate the weapons arrived in late July 2025, with public first mentions circulating around July 20. That timing matches recent RAF base upgrades tied to NATO’s dual capable aircraft mission. Where in the UK The site in question is RAF Lakenheath in Suffolk—about 100 km northeast of London. Up to 33 underground vaults (each originally built to store up to four B61 bombs) were in place since the 1990s; currently around 22 are being reactivated for modern storage of B61-12 warheads. These storage areas fall under U.S. military control (not UK), though they are located on British territory and operated in coordination with the RAF’s F-35A–equipped 495th Fighter Squadron, which is now NATO-certified to deliver the B61-12 bombs. Why It Matters First U.S. nukes in the UK in nearly two decades – marking a major shift in NATO’s posture and UK’s role beyond its submarine-based Trident deterrent. Enhanced deterrence – B61-12 bombs have dial-a-yield (0.3 to 50 kilotons) and precision guidance to be delivered by stealth-capable F-35As, signifying a tactical-level nuclear capability redeployed into Europe. Geopolitical signalling – seen by analysts as a direct answer to growing Russian aggression and the Ukraine war, and intended to reassure NATO allies in northern Europe. Non-proliferation concerns – critics warn that resuming so-called nuclear “sharing” may erode norms under the Non-Proliferation Treaty by blurring the line between hosting and proliferation. Security implications – because the strategic placement now places Britain—and its airbases—directly on Russia’s radar, increasing both the symbolic and potential physical exposure in a nuclear escalation scenario. What It Changes in Plain Terms The UK, which until now relied solely on Trident submarines for its nuclear deterrent, will once again host U.S. air-delivered warheads on its own soil. RAF Lakenheath and the new F-35A squadron signal an elevated role in NATO’s nuclear posture. This move heightens tensions in Europe and alters the strategic balance—making the UK part of a deterrence triangle, rather than passive supporter. For the first time in a generation, British airfields may be central launch points in a nuclear crisis—something reserved for Cold War planning…

BBC report – plane spotters and locallers in Fairford. RAF Fairford B-1B bombers shake offices and startle dogs on way to NATO mission There are four US Air Force B-1B Lancers currently stationed at RAF Fairford People across Gloucestershire were surprised to hear a loud booming roar split the sky overhead as they came into work this morning, or for some four-legged friends, as they were settling into a mid-morning snooze. According to startled posts on social media, offices were shaken and dogs were startled as a pair of supersonic US heavy bombers passed overhead on a mission. They were just two of the four B-1B Lancer bombers currently stationed at RAF Fairford as part of a US Air Force deployment, which began landing on Thursday (October 12) ahead of their NATO mission. For their Bomber Task Force rotation they have been given fresh callsigns, which are also quite appropriate given the insane volume of their engines, HOWLER21 and HOWLER22. While some in Cheltenham heard the B-1Bs “howl” overhead just after 8.30am on their way to their mission, residents in Northleach, just 10 miles from RAF Fairford, reported hearing the distant booming sound of the plane’s pre-flight engine checks, which started around 7am. The US variable wing long-ranged bomber is considered to be the loudest plane in the entire Air Force. Each of the plane’s four engines is able to provide more than 30,000 pounds of thrust, with their ultra-loud afterburners which are used at takeoff. This in turn creates between 127 and 140 decibels of sustained noise, which for those on the ground, is the equivalent of standing next to a blaring siren, or having a firecracker go off next to your ear. Gen. James Hecker, commander of U.S. Air Forces in Europe said: “We’re not only demonstrating our commitment to collective defense but also strengthening our ability to respond to potential challenges. This underscores the enduring commitment of the United States to our Allies and partners.”

Pilgrimage for Palestine … Pilgrimage for Palestine hit London Parliament Square on a hot 30th March at 2pm. There was amazement and some tears as we paused in Hyde Park, after thirteen days of walking, talking, poetry, generous hosts, massive support, huge donations, canals, rivers, injury, iftar, rapture, waking every day at 3.30am. We paused and waited for the Red Rebels. We being myself on foot, my wife Alice, Nick Bilbrough on bicycle (Hands Up Project founder,) Rowland Dye and Sue Luger, the support team, on foot/van. And a number of supporters who had joined us for the last leg. We moved closer to Parliament Square and waited for the Rebels. They appeared, moving very slowly as they do, as if in shock, dressed in Renaissance velvet red. We followed them into the square, traffic and sunlight and tourists and towers – and Palestinian flags. Right round went the rebels, and we followed, dazed and amazed, stopped at Winston Churchill and began to speak, as Zionists chanted and flung unspecified liquids. A drunk man took our side and wanted to attack them, and was gently diverted. I gave the key round my neck a last kiss and touched it to my forehead, then handed it to a girl in traditional Palestinian dress. This was the key I was given in Bristol by Feda Shahien on the 18th, thirteen days before, the day the sham ceasefire finally collapsed. All along the way it hung round my neck on a strip of cloth from a Palestinian shawl. It is the key to Feda’s grandmother’s house in Palestine, from which she was evicted by the Israelis (that part of history does not exist in Israel.) Once, in Reading, the key fell off. I was speaking at an event at the University, reading poems by Palestinian children collected by the Hands Up Project. The key untied itself from its cloth and fell to the floor, and the floor nearly gave way beneath my feet as I realised they key could have fallen off when I was walking along the canal and been lost. The Kennet and Avon canal rescued us from heavy roads all the way from Bath to Reading. Then the roads claimed us again for one hectic and racist day, when for a moment near Datchet I thought all was lost. Union Jacks everywhere, and a smooth guy rolled past, filming us, saying, ‘No thanks, not in Datchet.’ Then we picked up the Grand Union canal all the way to Paddington.

We also run free teacher development courses for Palestinian teachers and free specialised courses on Remote theatre and other areas. In summer 2022 teachers joined free courses in Remote Theatre and how to use storytelling to help build students’ confidence in the language of science! Storytelling is at the heart of every culture and has always been at the heart of what we do . Whether it’s students sharing their traditional stories, or remote volunteers and young people sharing anecdotes from their daily lives, something extraordinary happens every time we meet. The world gets a little closer to us, our hearts become a little more open and our understanding stretches towards people we may never meet. Remote Theatre: We provide ongoing support to the drama clubs we helped to establish in schools all over Palestine. The clubs, and our annual playwriting competition have stimulated a brand new art form – remote theatre. Short plays written by the children are shared with the world in our SaturPLAY live sessions, published in our 3 books – “Toothbrush”, “Welcome to Earth” and “Popcorn” and performed live at special events . Because of the pandemic a new genre of remote theatre where the children perform through individual webcams ( Lockdown theatre ) has emerged. The 2021 competition featured a brand-new element – all the entries were international collaborations. We were really excited about seeing internationally produced plays and we weren’t disappointed. Palestinian students worked with students from as far afield as Venezuela, Pakistan, Mexico, Italy, El Salvador, Turkey and Romania. The three winning plays Welcome to Earth, I can smell her and One World, Different Stories were Palestinian collaborations with the Czech Republic, Argentina and Germany. The first place went to Welcome to Earth acted and produced by students in Palestine and the Czech Republic. As part of their prize they travelled to Belfast in the north of Ireland to meet each other for the first time and to convert their play into a face-to-face multimedia performance featuring dance and visual art. Finalists from 2018 & 2019 (over 100 children) left Gaza (a rare opportunity for the children to travel within their own country) to perform in The Palestinian National Theatre in Jerusalem, in Alrowad cultural centre in Bethlehem, and in The Freedom Theatre in Jenin. Overall winners also travelled to the UK to perform live in schools, theatres and at our annual conference. Now we’re looking forward to this year’s competition where the plays will be taken from Nick Bilbrough’s book “Doing Remote Theatre” and once again feature international collaboration.

During an interview with CBS News that aired Sunday, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth said Iran should not doubt US resolve because it is backed by the higher power. “Our capabilities are better. Our will is better. Our troops are better. The providence of our almighty God is there protecting those troops, and we’re committed to this mission,” he said. The CBS reporter, Major Garrett, asked if Hegseth views the war from a religious context. “I mean, obviously, we’re fighting religious fanatics who seek a nuclear capability in order for some religious Armageddon.” Troops, he later added, “need a connection with their almighty God in these moments.” A couple of days later, not long after returning from a dignified transfer of soldiers killed in action, Hegseth quoted Psalm 144 at a Pentagon press conference: “Blessed be the Lord, my rock, who trains my hands for war and my fingers for battle.” Hegseth argues the US is a Christian nation Hegseth has long wanted to reprogram the country. “America was founded as a Christian nation,” he said at a recent National Prayer Breakfast. “It remains a Christian nation in our DNA, if we can keep it,” he added, splicing some religion onto a famous Benjamin Franklin quip about whether the US was a republic or a monarchy. “Not only are we warriors armed with the arsenal of freedom, we ultimately are armed with the arsenal of faith,” he said, adapting Franklin D. Roosevelt’s idea that the US should be the arsenal of democracy to his own religious worldview. Faith is tattooed on his chest Hegseth says one of his tattoos — a Jerusalem Cross, a religious symbol tied to the Crusades— led him to be labeled an extremist and disinvited from his unit’s detail to President Joe Biden’s inauguration in 2021. The imagery has roots in the Crusades, when European Christians tried to reclaim the Holy Land from Muslims. The term Deus Vult, “God Wills It,” is also tattooed on Hegseth’s body. In his 2020 book “American Crusade,” he describes the term as “the rallying cry of Christian knights as they marched to Jerusalem.”

Virgin issues huge airfare update after the cost of jet fuel doubled in a MONTH – as a major Aussie supermarket sounds the alarm Virgin will increase the price of domestic airfares by five per cent after the cost of fuel doubled in just one month amid the conflict in the Middle East. The move comes after Australia’s national carrier Qantas and its budget airline Jetstar said they would raise prices due to the effects of the war in Iran. ‘Costs across the aviation sector continue to rise, now significantly exacerbated by the situation in the Middle East,’ a Virgin spokesperson said in a statement. ‘We are making necessary fare adjustments to reflect these cost pressures.’ It’s understood domestic airfares will jump by five per cent, 9News reports. The increase will apply to both economy and business tickets. It comes after Qantas and Jetstar announced similar hikes last week. Qantas has not announced any changes to its domestic fares, with the airline to conduct fortnightly reviews into airfares. Meanwhile, Coles has also issued a similar price warning. The major supermarket said it would be conducting additional reviews of what it pays its transporters amid the soaring cost of fuel. Coles said it was ‘increasing the frequency that we review the fuel component of our freight rates from monthly to twice per month – so that changing fuel costs are reflected more quickly and fairly’. ‘In the current climate, this means transport providers will be able to recoup more of the rising fuel costs,’ a spokesman told the AFR.

Fifteen minutes before the announcement, a large burst of activity on online markets took place. Over 6,000 Brent and WTI futures contracts changed hands between 6:49 am and 6:50 am in New York in a one-minute flurry worth $580 million, FT reported, citing data from Bloomberg. Volumes in both benchmarks surged simultaneously. Trump’s post was made at 7:04 am and sparked a significant sell-off in energy markets. “It’s hard to prove causality … but you have to wonder who would have been relatively aggressive at selling futures at that point, 15 minutes before Trump’s post,” a broker strategist told FT. According to the report, the timing has raised questions about the trades and who might be benefiting from them. “The only focus of President Trump and Trump administration officials is doing what’s best for the American people,” a White House spokesperson said, calling rumors of insider trading among officials “baseless and irresponsible.” “The White House does not tolerate any administration official illegally profiteering off insider knowledge.” Tehran quickly came out in response to the announcement, denying that any talks took place and vowing to continue fighting. Trump claimed he was speaking to a “top” official, and that talks were “very productive.” According to trading platform Unusual Whales, S&P 500 futures worth $1.5 billion were bought, and oil futures worth $192 million were sold. The FT report comes as concerns have grown about insider trading on platforms such as Polymarket, both in the US and Israel. On 2 March, four days after the start of the US-Israeli war on Iran, Hebrew media reported that Israeli police opened an investigation into a Polymarket account that accurately forecast the 28 February strikes. The Polymarket user, under the name “Magamyman,” reportedly earned about $430,000 by predicting that the US would strike Iran on 28 February. According to Globes, roughly $529 million was bet on when the war would begin, with $90 million riding on 28 February. In mid-February, an Israeli man and an army reservist were indicted on charges of using sensitive, classified information to place bets about military operations. Polymarket is being increasingly used to bet on wars and military operations, sparking concern among some lawmakers that insider information used to place bets could harm national security. In June last year, a user under the name ricosuave666 made several highly accurate bets about the Israeli war on Iran that month, wagering tens of thousands and making a profit of about $150,000. More recently, another user made $400,000 dollars betting on a US assault on Venezuela, just hours before the illegal kidnapping of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro was ordered by Trump.

No, the key element in the decision to attack Iran for the second time in a year was provided by an intelligence briefing that turned out to be 100 percent false. The dodgy dossier that led to this attack was written by Mossad director David Barnea. He claimed in a briefing to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu that the Mossad was so strong on the ground in Iran that it would be able to galvanise Iranian opposition forces to overthrow their government once an air war had started.

NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte on Wednesday pushed back against criticism from US President Donald Trump, saying the military alliance is “stronger today than it has ever been” despite Trump’s accusation that it had done “nothing” to help during the conflict with Iran. Speaking while presenting NATO’s annual report, Rutte defended the alliance’s role in the ongoing crisis and highlighted its recent military actions in the region. According to Rutte, NATO intercepted three ballistic missiles headed toward Turkey during the conflict and is also working to ensure that the Strait of Hormuz remains safe for international shipping. His remarks came shortly after Trump posted on Truth Social, where he criticised NATO and suggested the United States would not forget the alliance’s lack of support during the Iran conflict. Iranian Strikes Have Destroyed $2.7 Billion Worth of High Value U.S. Anti-Missile Radars The Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps has destroyed $2.7 billion worth of high value radar systems during the first week of engagements with U.S. forces, after the Corps responded to U.S. and Israeli attacks on Iran from February 28 by launching large scale missile and drone strikes on key military and strategic targets across the Middle East. Although strikes on multiple radar systems of varying value have been reported, including lower value radars such as the AN/TPS-59 valued at around $70 million, three of the U.S. Armed Forces’ most high value radar systems are confirmed to have been destroyed. The most significant loss was the AN/FPS-132 radar, a long-range ballistic missile early-warning radar intended to form part of the outermost layer of U.S. missile defences, detecting launches up to 5,000 kilometres away, and able to track hundreds of targets simultaneously and provide precision trajectory prediction for ballistic missiles.The AN/FPS-132 is relied on heavily to provide cueing data to missile defence systems, as well as early warning to allow personnel and civilians to find shelter. Each radar costs an estimated $1.1 billion, with U.S. sources estimating that it will take five to eight years to replace the one destroyed. The sole radar of its kind in outside the United States first became operational in Qatar in 2013, with the specific purpose of countering the Iranian and Syrian ballistic missile arsenals, the latter which was neutralised after the government in Damascus was toppled in December 2024. Despite general efforts to downplay the successes of Iranian strikes, reporting by U.S. sources has indicated the the destruction of the AN/FPS-132 on February 28 degraded missile-warning capabilities in the region because such radars are rare and hard to replace. The fact that the system was singled out and prioritised for targeting in the opening hours of hostilities indicated that doing so may well have been seen as a force multiplier for subsequent ballistic missile attacks.

At the start of a US invasion, marines would secure a bridgehead, then occupy a port and launch the push for Tehran. An American bombing campaign against Iranian nuclear facilities would need fewer resources but would still be extensive and take several days. An Israeli strike, however, would have to rely on just one round of attacks due to the difficulty of flying over neighbouring states. These are three of the more startling scenarios examined in Which Path to Persia?, in which experts at Washington’s Brookings Institution address a perennial foreign policy problem: how to handle Iran. The think-tank writers analyse the options open to the Obama administration – and find all unpalatable. The blood of realpolitik courses through the book; some readers may find it bracing, others offensive. “Meddling in the internal politics of another country requires excellent intelligence if the efforts are to succeed,” reports a section on how to help inculcate a velvet revolution (note that three of the authors previously worked at the CIA). “Coups are typically more successful and easier to instigate and assist from abroad than popular revolutions,” adds the chapter on military takeovers. “It would be far more preferable if the US could cite an Iranian provocation as justification,” reads the section on airstrikes. This book is written by some top US experts on the Middle East. It would be an injustice to the authors, however, to pretend that this is a mere “How To” text for unseating the ayatollahs or an exercise in fantasy regime change. Instead, Which Path to Persia? is a glorious example of the think-tanker’s art. There is not a single striking metaphor or turn of phrase in the text; it proudly boasts that it was written by committee.

The warning comes as Israel’s military is fighting wars against Gaza, Iran, and Lebanon – where Israeli troops are engaged in a ground campaign to conquer and annex Lebanon’s south. Unless the existing law is changed, the duration of compulsory service is set to decrease to 30 months in January 2027, despite a shortage of many thousands of soldiers. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s cabinet has found it politically difficult to continue to extend mandatory military service while at the same time exempting tens of thousands of ultra-Orthodox men from conscription into the army. Left-wing and secular Israelis are angry that the Haredim are not required to share the burden of participating in the genocide of Palestinians in Gaza and expanding the borders of “Greater Israel” in Lebanon. Zamir made the comments during a cabinet meeting attended by the prime minister, heads of the defense establishment, and ministers. “In a short time, the IDF will not be prepared for its routine mission. The reservists will not last,” the chief of staff told attendees. “The reserves are being eroded. The law needs to be regulated, more reserves are needed, and the tasks are only growing. Maintaining these areas requires reserves, there have been gaps for a long time,” an army source added.

The carmaker has held talks with Israel’s Rafael Advanced Defense Systems about repurposing its Osnabruck plant, shifting from vehicle production to manufacturing components for Israel’s Iron Dome system. The move underscores growing pressure on Germany’s automotive sector, which is struggling to compete with Chinese electric vehicle makers. It also carries historical resonance: during the Second World War, Volkswagen halted car production and switched to arms manufacturing for Nazi Germany. The proposal points to a wider shift, as parts of German industry move closer to defence production with support from Berlin. Under the plan, the factory would produce key Iron Dome components, including launch platforms, power units and heavy-duty vehicles used to transport missile systems. Production could begin within 12 to 18 months with limited new investment. Germany has ramped up military spending and deepened defence ties with Israel, cementing its role as one of its strongest European backers. In December, Berlin approved a $3.1bn deal to purchase Israel’s Arrow 3 missile defence system, following a $3.5bn agreement two years earlier. Together, the contracts mark Israel’s largest arms sale to date, worth more than $6.6bn. The deals boost Israel’s defence industry as it faces growing international isolation over its war on Gaza. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defence Minister Yoav Gallant are wanted by the International Criminal Court for war crimes and crimes against humanity. Germany supplies about 30 percent of Israel’s imported weapons, second only to the United States, which accounts for nearly 60 percent. Meanwhile, South Africa’s case at the International Court of Justice accuses Israel of genocide in Gaza. The court has recognised a plausible risk of genocide, placing legal obligations on states not to support Israel’s actions.

Nuclear war?  Vance Claims Iran Could Make Nuclear Suicide Vest Vice President JD Vance on Thursday attempted to justify the continued US-Israeli war against Iran by implying that Iran could potentially turn a nuclear bomb into a suicide vest, a claim not grounded in reality. Vance made the claim during a cabinet meeting while discussing military and diplomatic “options” that the US has regarding the conflict with Iran. He has continued to portray the war as being necessary to prevent Iran from making a nuclear weapon, though there was no evidence that Tehran had decided to build a bomb either before the June 2025 war or the current war that was launched on February 28. “What we have now that we didn’t have when the president took over, just a little over a year ago, is the ability to use every tool at our disposal to ensure that Iran doesn’t get a nuclear weapon,” Vance said. “Because when I say options, I think it’s important the American people know options for what? And it’s options to ensure that Iran never has a nuclear weapon,” the vice president added. “You talk about people who walk into a crowded supermarket and have a vest on, and they blow up the vest and a couple of people get killed, and that’s a terrible tragedy. What happens when what’s on the vest is not something that can kill a couple of people, but can kill many, many tens of thousands of people?” A nuclear bomb could not be miniaturized to the point where it could be worn as a vest, and if Vance was alluding to a “dirty bomb” that uses some nuclear material, such a weapon at that size would not cause tens of thousands of casualties (and likely in the ‘dirty bomb’ scenario the wearer would die or become incapacitated from the radiation). Plus, in recent decades, the overwhelming majority of suicide bombings in the region were carried out by Sunni Muslim extremists, not Iran and its Shia allies. Before the US and Israel launched the war, Vance became one of the leading voices in the administration, making the claim that the coming conflict was about preventing Iran from developing a nuclear bomb, contradicting President Trump’s insistence that US airstrikes in June 2025 “obliterated” Iran’s nuclear program. At one point, Vance even claimed there was evidence Iran was trying to “rebuild a nuclear weapon,” something Iran has never had.

Doctors say the wounds are clearly the result of torture while the child was detained with his father. The marks on the child’s legs appear unmistakable. Round burn marks, as if from cigarette butts, as well as puncture wounds. His pants have the same two holes, and they are stained with blood. This was the state in which 18-month-old Jawad Abu Nasser was returned to his family in Gaza by the Israeli army. In video testimony for Mondoweiss, Waad al-Shafi, 19, from the Maghazi area in central Gaza, holds her son and lifts his legs and feet toward the camera. According to the family, the toddler was subjected to severe torture by the Israeli army. They say that the Israelis had put out cigarettes on his legs and punctured them with sharp objects. “Here is where his foot was pierced, and here is where cigarettes were put out on him,” Jawad’s mother says, holding his feet as she points to each injury. “And here’s another wound. And another.” The family says they suspect that Jawad’s torture could have been an attempt to pressure his father into providing information, and they also believe that he was likely there while the soldiers carried out the abuse of his son. “After they examined him, the doctors concluded that the marks on his legs were clearly the result of torture,” says Muhammad Abu Nassar, gradfather of 18-month-old Jawad.  ‘Both of them were being tortured together’ Waad al-Shafi says Osama Abu Nassar, her husband and Jawad’s father, left home carrying their son to buy him sweets from a nearby shop. Instead, he mistakenly headed east toward the “Yellow Line,” the invisible border cutting the Gaza Strip roughly in half as part of the ceasefire between Israel and Hamas. The family lost contact with him at around 10 a.m. and heard nothing until 8 p.m. that same day, March 19. She adds that her husband had been experiencing severe psychological distress in recent weeks and was not in stable condition.

Activists rally over Bristol Zoo Gardens sale The proposed sale of the former Bristol Zoo Gardens site is “a scandal happening in plain sight”, according to campaigners who protested outside the offices of the developer set to purchase the land. Acorn Property Group has denied claims linking its planned development of the Clifton site to an official warning notice from the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA), saying it relates to a separate part of the business and does not affect the deal for the zoo site. Justin Morris, chief executive of Bristol Zoological Society, said the notice “has no bearing on the sale”. In a statement, Morris described the redevelopment of the historic land as an opportunity to open the gardens to the public for the first time and fund the charity’s conservation and education work. Around 50 people gathered outside the company’s Clifton Down Road offices on Wednesday afternoon to oppose the sale and plans which include nearly 200 homes, a cafe, a playground and free public access to the gardens. Acorn Property Group said it closed its the offices during the protest to protect the welfare of staff. The Acorn Property Group spokesperson said the warning relates only to wording previously used in marketing materials for its investment arm and “does not amount to any finding of fraudulent activity”. The company added it is working with the FCA to remove the notice. “We remain fully committed to delivering the scheme, which will include a mix of housing, a cafe, playground and free public access to the gardens for the first time in history,” the spokesperson told Bristol24/7. UK households face £300 increase in energy bills because of Donald Trump’s Iran war The conflict is set to have a devastating effect on Britain’s economy and living standards. Household energy bills are set to rise by more than £300 because of Donald Trump’s war against Iran, experts have warned. The Government said it was monitoring the situation “hour by hour” and stands ready to help struggling families, but Chancellor Rachel Reeves suffered a blow last night as official figures showed public debt rising faster than expected. Borrowing jumped to £14.3 billion in February, £2.2 billion higher than a year ago, despite predictions that it would fall. Experts said the Treasury faced a “double squeeze”, with the conflict in the Gulf likely to cut tax revenue by damaging Britain’s economy, at the same time as placing the Chancellor under pressure to provide cash for struggling businesses and households. Conservative Shadow Chancellor Mel Stride said the borrowing rise was a result of Labour’s “irresponsible choices”, including allowing the benefits bill to soar. He said: “We’re saddling the next generation with the cost of their failure to live within our means.” Treasury Minister James Murray, the Chief Secretary to the Treasury, said: “We know there is more to do to. We have to stop spending £1 in every £10 on debt interest, so more money can be spent on policing, schools and the NHS.” The unexpected rise in borrowing is likely to limit the Chancellor’s room for manoeuvre after a package of support following Russia’s 2022 invasion of Ukraine, including subsidies for energy bills and council tax, cost the Treasury £51 billion. Energy experts Cornwall Insight issued a prediction that the Ofgem price cap, which limits what suppliers can charge domestic consumers, will rise to £1,973 per year for the average household, up by £332 from April’s figure. They previously predicted a £4 increase, but changed the new figure is a direct result of the war against Iran, including attacks on Iran’s South Pars gasfield, the largest in the world, and Iranian strikes on a gas facility in Qatar. Craig Lowrey, Principal Consultant at Cornwall Insight, said: “Gas markets were already volatile, and the Israeli strike on Iran’s South Pars field, and Iran’s subsequent retaliation, has increased that instability.” He added: “The ultimate scale of any increases in bills, whether in July or further ahead, will depend on how long the disruption continues.” It echoed a warning from the Bank of England earlier this week, which said conflict in the Middle East “has caused a significant increase in global energy and other commodity prices, which will affect households’ fuel and utility prices and have indirect effects via businesses’ costs.” Ofgem’s price cap is based on average wholesale prices over a three-month period. Gas prices have been climbing in recent weeks, and this is likely to feed through into future electricity prices and the cost of heating homes. UK natural gas prices reached a three-year high on Thursday after jumping by around 25% during the day, and eased back a little on Friday. Martin Beck, chief economist at WPI Strategy, said the Chancellor’s efforts to control debt may be doomed to failure if the war continues. He said: “The shock to energy prices creates a double squeeze for the public finances if it persists. “Higher oil and gas prices would lift North Sea revenues, and stronger inflation could boost receipts from VAT and frozen tax allowances, but those gains would likely be outweighed by the damage to tax revenues from weaker growth and higher public spending on welfare, debt interest costs, and pressure for fiscal support for households and energy-intensive businesses.” Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer warned that the longer the conflict continues, “the bigger the impact on the cost of living.” He said: “The best way forward is a negotiated settlement with Iran”.

WW3? Israel attacks Iranian leaders and Iran gas field. Iran’s South Pars Gas Field Is Attacked, Sending Energy Prices Soaring The field is part of a vast gas reservoir shared by Iran and Qatar. The strike appeared to be one of the most significant attacks on an energy site since the U.S.-Israeli air war against Iran began. Iran and Qatar on Wednesday accused Israel of attacking a giant offshore natural gas field that the two countries share, sending the prices of oil and natural gas soaring on what would be a sharp escalation of strikes on energy infrastructure in the war against Iran. Iran uses most of its natural gas domestically, meaning that the strikes will most likely have a limited effect on the global supply of gas, which is used in power plants, home furnaces and heavy industry. But the attacks signal that the Persian Gulf’s extensive energy facilities may be at growing risk. Iran’s oil ministry said on social media that airstrikes had damaged a number of its facilities connected to the South Pars gas field. It appeared to be one of the most significant energy sites to be hit since the U.S.-Israeli air war against Iran began nearly three weeks ago. Iranian state media reported that oil and petrochemical facilities in the southern city of Asaluyeh, a key hub for the country’s energy industry, were also hit by an airstrike. The extent of the damage was not immediately clear, and Iranian state media reported that fires at the energy facilities had been brought under control. But the strikes illustrated how the war has threatened oil and gas production facilities. The South Pars field accounts for about 70 to 75 percent of Iran’s natural gas production. Most of that fuel is used in the country, partly because Western economic sanctions constrain Iran’s ability to trade internationally. But reports of the attack caused the price of Brent Crude, the international oil benchmark, to surge more than 6 percent to over $109 a barrel as investors worried that the attack may prompt Iran to strike oil and gas fields and facilities in countries like Saudi Arabia that have close relations with the United States. The price of natural gas also rose by about 6 percent in Europe. Qatar condemned the attacks. Majed al-Ansari, a spokesman for Qatar’s foreign ministry, accused Israel of taking a “dangerous and irresponsible step,” and warned that targeting shared energy infrastructure could threaten global energy security. Israel did not immediately comment on the reports. Iran’s semiofficial Tasnim news agency quoted the governor of Asaluyeh as saying that attacks on South Pars gas facilities “caused fires in several refinery units.” He said the fires were contained and “the situation in the area is now fully under control,” Tasnim reported. South Pars makes up about a third of the world’s largest natural gas reserve, which stretches from Qatar toward Iran and contains enough to supply the world’s needs for about 13 years, according to Reuters. Qatar’s facilities there did not appear to have been targeted on Wednesday. Qatar, which calls its fields in the reservoir the North Dome, is the world’s third-largest exporter of liquefied natural gas and has made hundreds of billions of dollars from the industry over decades. Crowds turned out in Tehran and other cities, despite ongoing US and Israeli strikes in the region during the commemoration, state media reported. Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian called on the population to participate despite the war. On Thursday, he posted on X urging his fellow Iranians to “disappoint Iran’s enemies by taking to the streets in greater numbers than ever before”. Iran has marked al-Quds Day on the last Friday of the Muslim holy month of Ramadan since its 1979 Islamic Revolution, after the occasion was declared by the republic’s founder and first Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khomeini.

The remarks came amid mounting regional alarm after Qatar reported fires and damage at its Ras Laffan Industrial City, one of the world’s largest hubs for liquefied natural gas production. In a post on X on Thursday, Iran’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sayyed Abbas Araghchi, condemned the US-Israeli attacks against Iran’s cultural and historical heritage. “Israel is bombing Iranian historical monuments dating as far back as the 14th century. The government’s long-awaited land use framework – to be unveiled by Emma Reynolds, the environment secretary, on Wednesday afternoon – marks the first time that government has attempted to assess how best to use farmland, nature reserves and areas of degraded land to help balance competing needs for land for food production, housing, energy and industry. For the first time, ministers will set out how much land is needed to meet the UK’s net zero target through growing forests and restoring peatland as “carbon sinks” and through energy generation from solar and windfarms. Only about 1% of land will be needed for renewable energy generation, according to the government’s new estimate, and much of the land required will still be used for food production, for instance through livestock grazing around windfarms and under solar panels. New mapping will also make it easier to assess how the restoration of peatlands in upland areas could reduce flooding from rivers, which is expected to worsen as the climate crisis deepens. Reynolds said: “It is more important than ever that we make the right decisions about our finite land, especially in the face of the dual threat of the climate and nature crises. The land use framework will hardwire climate resilience and nature-based solutions into our decision-making to ensure that we have safe homes for the future.” Annoying Guy Shrubsole, Mombioid author of Who Owns England?, said: “The bold promise to open up the Land Registry would finally bring to an end a thousand years of secrecy shrouding who owns England, and enable greater scrutiny of what goes on behind the barbed-wire fences that crisscross the countryside. Given that 1% of the population own half of England, it’s only reasonable that the largest landowners should be held most responsible for restoring nature to these dewilded isles. The new land use framework is an ambitious step towards making England a greener, fairer and more pleasant land.” However, the government will stop well short of directing how land must be used in any area. There will be no attempts to force landowners to give up control and no national scheme to mandate the conversion of land to carbon sinks. The framework will be used to “steer” housebuilders away from constructing homes on floodplains, after concerns about the number of new-build homes at risk from flooding as the deregulation crisis, spun as climate crisis, worsens.

Richard Kahn, Epstein’s accountant and bookkeeper since 2005, had told the mansion’s staff to pack two suitcases with the contents of the safe and deliver them to his home, agents wrote. After the FBI spoke to Kahn’s then lawyer, Kahn agreed to hand over the suitcases untouched, but he did not want agents coming to his house and declined to say who had told him to remove the items. However, a source close to the investigation into Epstein told us that he was not aware of Kahn ever being interviewed or investigated in relation to the paedophile financier’s criminal investigation. Kahn’s current lawyer told BBC News that his client had fully co-operated with the FBI’s requests. Kahn asked staff at Epstein’s New York mansion to remove items from a safe, according to the FBI Kahn, and Epstein’s long-serving lawyer Darren Indyke, are the sole executors of Epstein’s estate, controlling all his wealth and possessions. Although hardly household names, the pair now hold control over compensation owed to survivors and the secrets contained in the documents still held by the Epstein estate – which, upon request, have been released to the House Oversight Committee. As part of its investigation into Epstein’s network, the congressional committee has subpoenaed – summoned – the pair to testify. Kahn is appearing on Wednesday 11 March, while Indyke is due to testify on Thursday 19 March. We have spoken to people associated with investigations linked to Epstein, looked through papers from multiple court cases, and analysed the most recent material released in the Epstein files by the US Department of Justice – to try to uncover more about the role the two men are alleged to have played in Epstein’s life and continue to play after his death. Epstein appointed Indyke and Kahn as co-executors in August 2019, just two days before he died in jail awaiting trial for sex-trafficking minors. He revised his will to transfer all his wealth into a trust named after the year of his birth, which the lawyer and accountant would administer. In their role as executors, Indyke and Kahn have agreed compensation packages paid to survivors and included conditions that prevented survivors who accepted funds from taking further legal action against them personally. Other claims are still outstanding. As beneficiaries of the trust, the men could also be paid tens of millions of dollars each from whatever remains when the claims are settled. Court filings claim that, either Indyke and Kahn – but often both of them – “had signatory authority over virtually all of the accounts held by Epstein”, which meant they were authorised to make transactions. They also helped to run multiple Epstein corporations – some of which, it is alleged in court filings, existed solely for the purpose of his sex-trafficking operation. Kahn’s lawyer told us “there is no basis for such claims” and that Epstein’s businesses didn’t operate to shield his activities; “virtually all of them were tax-filing entities whose ownership was never hidden”.

The UAE port of Fujairah just outside the Strait of Hormuz — normally a key hub for shipping fuel — has suffered disruption from drone attacks. The uncertainty there is creating new and unexpected demand, according to Casper Borgen, general manager for Middle East and Africa at the firm. “From the epicenter in Hormuz, we are seeing how the rings spread to Asia and West Africa, where markets are also starting to experience a shortage of products due to the increasing demand without the supply being able to keep up,” he said by email. “There is a bottleneck in one of the world’s most important energy trade lanes, and this means many new and major challenges for all suppliers.” The turmoil in the Middle East has prompted rationing of fuel in Singapore, people involved in the trade said this week, with some distributors limiting or canceling sales. Scarcity is spreading to other regions, too, Vessels use a range of fuels from more polluting high-sulfur fuel oil to cleaner supplies, such as marine gasoil, which is used in areas with stricter environmental standards. In a letter to the prime minister, attorney general and foreign secretary seen by Middle East Eye, Human Rights Watch UK director Yasmine Ahmed demanded “urgent clarification” on the steps taken by the government to ensure that US military strikes conducted from its bases are compliant with international humanitarian law. Prime Minister Keir Starmer confirmed in early March that the UK had agreed to allow the US to use its military bases for what he said were defensive purposes. On Friday, Downing Street announced that the agreement had been expanded to allow for the US to launch strikes from UK bases on Iranian sites targeting the Strait of Hormuz – also invoking “collective self-defence” of Gulf state allies as a legal basis for the decision. Ahmed said that, while the government’s legal justification for the move invokes self-defence, it fails to mention issues related to international humanitarian law. She emphasised that, despite this omission, both international humanitarian law (IHL) and international criminal law (ICL) “are applicable to the UK’s decision to allow the US to use its military bases to strike targets in Iran”. The letter explained that, under Common Article 1 (CA1) of the Geneva Conventions, states are obligated to ensure respect for IHL, but are also bound to ensure others who are party to a conflict do the same. Ahmed noted that, while the UK government disputed this second obligation in a recent judicial review of its decision to continue exporting F35 parts to Israel, it is “inconsistent with well documented practice”. She explained that the blanket approach “fails to take account of how obligation may arise in the context of joint military operations or where a state is providing support to another state in the context of military operations, where the issue of ability to influence is clear”. “Providing support, which would include the use of a military base, with the knowledge that such support will contribute to violations of IHL would violate CA1,” Ahmed said. She added that states were obliged to take proactive steps to stop rights violations by exerting influence on the party that is committing them. “Importantly, this obligation is not limited to stopping ongoing violations; it also includes an obligation to prevent violations when there is a foreseeable risk that they will occur and to prevent further violations in case they have already occurred,” Ahmed emphasised. Serious questions unanswered The letter outlined a number of instances which have raised questions around US compliance with IHL and its approach to civilian harm. These include an airstrike on Shajareh Tayyebeh primary school in the southern Iranian city of Minab, at the start of the US-Israeli assault on 28 February. At least 175 people were killed in the attack, most of them children. A preliminary investigation into the strike by the Pentagon found that the US military was responsible for the attack….
